THE BAND ALSO RELEASE A LIVE EP RECORDED ON THE LAST NIGHT OF THEIR TOUR BEFORE PAUSING FOR LOCKDOWN

‘LIVE FROM LAST NIGHT OF THE TOUR’

Milwaukee, Wisconsin March 11th, 2020: As Jeremiah Fraites holds a euphoric beat, and Wesley Schultz’s rich timbre fills a dark arena, the band are joined by a chorus of voices from thousands of carefree fans. The verve in the room is palpable, no one could predict that night, the epic impact the pandemic would wreak upon the world for the next year and some. The very next day the world paused and doors were closed as everyone retreated inside.

The tracklisting for the EP includes favourites  Ophelia, My Cell, Donna  and  Gloria,  along with the now unfamiliar, but heart-warming sounds of crowd appreciation and an audience joining in to sing. The vocals are mid-show raw, both poignant and joyous, the music up-tempo, yet pure low slung blues. A magical hybrid of Americana folk pop, created with accomplished composition and musical grit.

Live From The Last Night Of The Tour  is a perfect appetizer, before the band reset and fire up the juggernaut of buses, rigs & ticket sellers, to take the 2022  tour on the road throughout  February & March. Almost two years after lockdown Wesley, Jeremiah and thousands of fans around the world will emerge,  blinking into the spotlights for what is going to be one monumental reunion.

Rock band The Lumineers on spending the night singing in a pub with Wayne Rooney

After an enforced two-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic, American folk rock band, The Lumineers are back on the road.

Manchester is a favourite tour destination for the band.

This may be largely due to Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney who is a huge fan and took it upon himself to show them what the city has to offer.

Wayne even encouraged the band to sing along with him to fan anthem, Slow it Down.

As The Lumineers' co-founder, Wesley Shultz, told the Manchester Evening News : "We went to a football game in Manchester that one time, I'd never experienced a sporting game that felt like the Olympics, the stakes were high.

"Afterwards, we got to spend time with Rooney and he sang Slow It Down with us in a pub, we closed down a pub!

"We had a beautiful time hanging with him in the pub.

"The pub owner took us to this back room and it was like a shrine to him with all the photos in there, and he was looking at me winking, that was a crazy experience, I was getting to know him there in a pub."

Reflecting on that past experience today, Ho Hey star Wesley beams: "I got to walk into a place that I didn't know a lot about, compared to the amount of access we got given, so that was a really special memory in Manchester."

Wayne is among the thousands of fans who will no doubt be delighted to see The Lumineers back out on tour, off the back of their lockdown-inspired album Brightside.

The band will call at Manchester's AO Arena on Wednesday March 2 before heading to London and then on to Europe.

Wesley, along with fellow band founder Jeremiah Fraites, says writing and recording their fourth studio album was a chance to gain something good from the pandemic, at a time when the band, like the rest of the world felt so powerless.

He said: "Writing the album, it was a feeling of a start, middle, and finish - there was something empowering about that, at a time when we all felt powerless, that this was something you could tap into and do.

"It's been so frustrating, every day there's been news you think it could go either away, but I'm seeing dominoes falling away and there now seems to be some unification of people deciding to live with Covid as a reality.

"I finally feel like the tour is actually going to happen. This tour we so desperately want to do now whereas for a long time it felt almost irresponsible to do this."

The band last came to Manchester in 2019, touring their "deeply personal" album III, which played to rave reviews.

Wesley says: "For us that was the best tour we've ever been on with the album III. It was deeply personal, about my mother in law and her struggles with alcoholism and trying to help her through that, so to see that album connect to a lot of people was surprising, we did it as passion, not related to something commercial, something we felt strongly about, for it to connect so well was gratifying."

Fans can expect something "next level" for the band's return though - as Wesley says for all musicians being able to return to the stage is "like a rocket launching".

He says: "Seeing any band, whether it's us, or anyone in this immediate aftermath of the pandemic, there's genuinely something like a rocket launching - every band you see is like a kid in a candy store.

"You don't always appreciate what you have when you have it, whoever you see in these next few months, you're going to see a different side of these bands, we're genuinely happy to be up there.

"This is different, you can't really make that up, it feels like we've been waiting at the start line for two plus years.

"You're going to see a beautiful side of not only us, but also the audiences I think."

The Lumineers play Manchester AO Arena on Wednesday March 2, tickets available from £42.10

Stage Times: The Lumineers

From stripping at house shows to rain at Red Rocks, The Lumineers take us through the ups and downs of their formative shows.

Find tickets

Much of the frenzy that began to mount around the 2010s for the Colorado folk-rock outfit The Lumineers came from the desire etched into each of their songs to be not just heard but responded to. Driven by rudimentary, human rhythms (the rushing beat of a heart, the clapping of hands) and ushered by memorable chants that linger for days, songs such as ‘Stubborn Love’ and ‘Ho Hey’ – their much-synced, international mega hit – established a bilateral relationship with the listener that formed the foundation of both their live appeal and songwriting thereafter.

When leading members Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah (‘Jerr’) Fraites came to begin writing the follow-up to their emotionally dense 2019 concept album III , then, surely the prolonged remove of lockdown felt especially acute, throwing their symmetry with their crowds out of whack?

“Well, I wish I could write a song knowing exactly how a crowd would respond,” lead vocalist Schultz admits over a Zoom call. “There’ve been songs that we’ve written where I think it’s going to be this kind of thing, but it’s not and falls flat or is completely different. I had this conversation a long time ago with Rick Rubin, we met him backstage once and talked for about an hour. He meditates and his whole passion is not caring for genres or how a song comes about, but only if a song moves him. He just wants to feel music that’s universal, and that is the North Star for us when we try to write. Can we play this to kindergarteners? Can we play to old age pensioners? Can we play this in a barber shop? To people who aren’t from our walk of life? I remember busking in the streets, and if you sang and you meant it, people received it differently”.

The Lumineers - BRIGHTSIDE

It’s been a long time since Schultz could be found busking and playing open mic nights in New York and Denver, and Rubin is far from the only music stalwart that the band have brushed shoulders with and learnt from. Whilst supporting U2 on their Joshua Tree tour in 2017, Schultz took a lesson from one of Bono’s quirks. “He told me ‘I listen through other people’s ears’. He’s famous for playing his music for other people, which is funny, but what I admire about that is there’s not a whole load of self-consciousness. There’s trying to figure out if it’s working, almost like a comic working out their material, and if the joke isn’t funny it’s just not funny. But in music, it’s often, ‘Oh they don’t understand my genius’ or something, you know? But that’s not always the case, it might just be that the song could be stronger and you’re not willing to address that. So constantly we’re playing our music back to the trusted people in our lives, and you can just tell if they get goose bumps or start to cry, if all these emotions come out then you’re doing your job right. If they’re not, maybe it wasn’t what you thought it was.”

The record that resulted from Schultz and Fraites’ remote sessions is BRIGHTSIDE , The Lumineers’s fourth studio album, released back in January. It feels lighter than its predecessor in both tone and runtime, clocking in at 30 minutes, and with its capitalised song titles, has the kind of informal air that the frontman explains is a reflection of its process. “It’s based on voice memos, just last minute ideas. We went into the studio with these very sparsely planned out skeletons, still with a ton to do to flesh them out. We left so much to be decided in the studio, and it was the other stuff that made the record what it was. The lyrics weren’t completed, none of the instrumentation was figured out, none of the keys, BPMs, all the technical stuff that we’re normally almost OCD about. To leave that open and have the faith that it’s gonna be OK, it felt a lot more like improvisation when the past had always felt scripted. In that way you feel this more uninhibited side of us because that’s what it literally was. It wasn’t afraid to be wrong, I guess.”

The Lumineers - WHERE WE ARE

As its title suggests, BRIGHTSIDE feels largely positive in tone but with a perceptible ambivalence, which is only natural given the context in which it was written. “I don’t think this album is positive, but I think it’s hopeful, and there’s a big difference”, Schultz confirms. A lot of positives coincided with its production, most notably the birth of his second child with his wife Brandy. But the simpler, freer approach to producing this album also took the band back to a time when there was less pressure on them, and with that comes a wave of nostalgia for their beginnings a decade earlier. “When you’re first starting out, the anonymity is a gift. We didn’t really have anything going for us until I was about thirty. So I had a lot of years behind the scenes to develop and make embarrassing choices that eventually, when I shared with Jerr and we showed the world our music, I felt like it was more dialled in and refined. This was that kind of return to innocence.”

But these days The Lumineers are a league apart from the anonymity they remember, and today (24 February) embark on their UK tour, filling stadiums and arenas in a land very dear to both of them. “Coming to the UK means a lot to me because Jerr and I spent some time studying there and playing a lot of coffee houses and bars. It might sound but cliché but we never imagined playing some of these venues and being able to take music from Ramsey, this little town in New Jersey, out to Denver and then have it accepted anywhere else, of any distance, much less overseas. So coming over there means a lot, but it’s extra sweet because we’ve already spent time over there and know how crazy it is.”

It seemed only fitting ahead of their tour to unpack a few of the formative shows that lead Schultz and Fraites to where they are now, from the revelry house shows when no one knew their name to seeing orchestras perform their songs in the rain.

lumineers tour belfast

The first gig I can remember, we played at this place called The Pussycat Lounge in New York. We grew up on the doorstep of New York, right up New Jersey about 40 minute drive from the city. We never took the plunge until about 2005, when Jerr and I started playing together. So we get to the Pussycat Lounge but the doorman hadn’t arrived yet, and all of our friends and family, about 80 people, showed up to support us because it was our first gig in New York and we were spreading the word. The guy gets there, I remember him coming up this big flight of stairs – there was a burlesque club below, which I think is where it gets its name. The guy gets there with his bike around his shoulder like, ‘Who are all these people? You’re the first band!’ He was upset! He made everyone leave then come back in to pay him, it was the funniest thing. This guy was so angry with us for bringing so many people to the venue, which was so confusing.  We were going by Wesley Jeremiah at the time, but our first gig as The Lumineers was in Denver. I can tell you about that because I met my wife at that show. We go to play this house show, and I wasn’t that used to them on the East Coast, but then when I moved out west it was much more common. We’d just moved to Denver, it was our first gig there, and our piano player Stelth Ulvang at the time was in his own band. They had a show and needed an opener, and he knew we were moving there; he told my future wife, “I know the perfect band and they’re pirate music”. She was like, “Cool, whatever that means”. We show up and we’re supposed to open, because no one knows us or our music, but instead Stelth asked us to go on after, I think because they realised all the alcohol and drugs were running out, so by the time they would go on stage nothing would be left, haha! So we’re watching them play, the whole room knowing every word to every song, and eventually throughout the show his band starts stripping down and getting naked. Just spontaneously! It wasn’t planned, just one person did it and then another one. We had three people who were supposed to play in our band that night, but the third guy saw this and left, because he thought we’d have to get naked too.  So it was just me and Jerr, and everybody else was slowly leaving the party, but it was still a beautiful night. The first person to open the door to let us in to the party was the person who I’m married to now with two kids, Brandy. It was a crazy night where I though, coming from New York, that I’d seen all the crazy parties, and then that happened and turned out to be the craziest I’d ever been to. Unexpected, in Denver.

It’s funny, New York has been so kind to us  since  leaving New York. I don’t know why. We couldn’t get into a lot of clubs; I remember trying to get into the Mercury Lounge for ever, that was our mountaintop. There was the Rockwood Music Lounge, The Living Room and then the Mercury Lounge, the highest spot for what we could really do. We couldn’t get into them, and then once we moved to Denver and sent our demo to them all again for like the tenth time, they were all like, “Yeah come on through”.

The Lumineers at Mercury Lounge, NYC 08/30/2011

I don’t know what it is, but also we toured with a crew that has been in a lot of different bands over the years, and one of the things they say often is that it’s strange how enthusiastic and not cynical the crowds are in New York. It’s actually beautiful, and there are probably other cities that shall remain nameless that are sometimes sticks in the mud, but New York isn’t one of them, and we feel lucky because I’ve been there and I’ve seen some tough shows there.

There are some really sweet highlights, like playing The Whitehouse , where the crowd were really stiff but we managed to make them open up and relax. But I would say what really sticks out to me is playing Red Rocks in the pouring rain.

We had a symphony that was going to play with us, and they get paid no matter what. It’s a union gig, so they don’t have to stay if there’s certain conditions, like if the temperature goes below a certain point or if rain hits or whatever. But this night had cold temperatures and rain, so I just remember about 80% of them stayed, but I watched their meeting and work out who was staying in this little cafeteria.

This was the first time we were playing with them, and they’re saying “Show of hands, who’s staying?” I remember watching wondering if any of them would stay, but it was such a magical night because the crowd was getting drenched; if you go to Glastonbury people just don’t care, but there are a lot of places where they do and they’re not as tough about the weather. In Colorado at that show, I was so touched that not only was the crowd full, but you had all these really talented symphony players with very nice instruments sticking it out and playing with us. That would have been in 2013, and really sticks out at me because of how grateful we were for everyone sticking with us.

lumineers tour belfast

Early on in New York we got in a car accident on the way to a gig. We hit another car and had to settle that, and then got to the gig and were told we couldn’t soundcheck because we got there too late. So we got on stage, and once you start your set that’s your soundtrack. When we left, to add insult to injury, we had a parking ticket that was way more than we got compensated for the gig. So we basically paid I don’t know how much to play a gig, it was so bad.

Once at another show, we basically bought drinks and bribed people to stay because we, the people on stage, outnumbered the crowd. There was like two or three people, so we made sure they stayed.

The Lumineers play Nottingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London from 24 Feb – 04 March. A limited amount of tickets are available here .

The Lumineers is a popular folk-rock band based in Denver, CO. Its spare, soulful sound draws inspiration from lyrical heartland rockers like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty. With every new show, The Lumineers prove that American folk music is alive and well in the 21st century.

In 2005, Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites worked together to form The Lumineers. The pair met and began making music together in Ramsey, NY. They moved to Brooklyn to pursue their dream of a music career, and later went to Denver. The band’s subsequent success was all thanks to its constant reinvention and collective desire to improve.

Over the years, The Lumineers gained more members like Neyla Pekarek, Maxwell Hughes, Ben Wahamaki, and Jay Van Dyke. Each new member contributed various musical skills and offered new creative twists to The Lumineers’ signature sound before its eventual departures. Despite the band’s ever-changing member lineup, the original founders Schultz and Fraites kept things fresh.

The band’s swift success began when “Ho Hey” hit radio waves in 2012. It differed from the usual pop-friendly tracks with its classic folk-rock twist. The single reached unbeatable heights on numerous charts across the globe and set up impending success for the band. Soon enough, The Lumineers’ unique self-titled record earned the group a Best New Artist nomination at the 2013 Grammys. It turned the tables on popular music and marked the beginning of a solid career.

After gaining well-deserved commercial success, The Lumineers geared up for more groundbreaking albums. Cleopatra followed in 2016, showcasing the band’s delightful versatility and proving its place in pop culture. Cleopatra sat comfortably at the top of the UK and U.S. charts and helped the band’s third full-length record III shake up its stellar discography.

III told a touching story of personal struggles, allowing The Lumineers to reach its full potential as a riveting band in 2019. Not only did it captivate fans with more creative diversity, but it stuck to the band’s original roots. III peaked at number 2 in the U.S., securing another incredible accomplishment for The Lumineers.

The Lumineers hit up 2022 with renewed vigor. Its fourth studio release, Brightside, breathed life into a promising record collection and proved the band was more polished than ever. It was no surprise, especially with Schultz and Fraites at the helm. True star power and lyrical storytelling weaved its way into each soulful track, shedding new light on The Lumineers’ music career.

Throughout its illustrious career, the band has maintained a revolutionary vision, building a cohesive collection of all-star albums while reinventing the folk-rock genre. Besides a game-changing discography, The Lumineers also liven things up with unifying concert experiences.

From Madison Square Garden to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Lumineers make a home in every legendary venue. Fans can’t deny the band’s presence on stage, especially with its subtle sound reverberating throughout each smash song or low-key ballad. The Lumineers constantly represent incredible versatility without showing any signs of stopping. Ultimately, the band takes indie elements to the next level while capturing the magic of true lyricism.

Live reviews

First off, The Lumineers are one of my all time favourite bands. Watching them live was an amazing experience! The atmosphere they created in the small cozy venue made it feel like they were my friends playing up there, as if once they were done we could all sit and have a conversation. Their music in general makes me feel like this; it makes me feel at home.

Because they have only released one album, you could tell everyone knew every single song, which is always the best at a show because it felt as if the audience was so connected through it all. What was even better, was that the artists up on stage were feeding off of this community vibe to perform in a very honest kind of way with such passionate energy.

They were so comfortable with everything it made their music even more personal to me. At one point they even stopped playing to ask if everyone could put their cameras down and simply enjoy the moment and be with them in the music. And at another point during the show the lead singer (Wesley Schultz) stepped off stage, walking around the small crowd, to talk and sing acoustically with no microphones or anything electronic for a song. It was the most amazing experience I’ve had in any show, everyone crowded around Wesley listening to the purest form of music.

I’d highly recommend going to a Lumineers concert. Some seriously amazing band members who are very real, truthful, and down to earth. Not to mention, their music has the most balanced mix of instruments and lyrics that make you want to pay attention to every word. I’m really not just saying all this. I’m a real person who can honestly say the Lumineers’ concert was one of the best ones I’ve ever been to in my life.

I was introduced to the music of the Lumineers through one of my children who is now 20. On hearing this group for the very first time and then listening to their first album, I was taken aback with the exceptional talent and originality of this band.

Their sound is utterly unique, which is an incredibly hard thing to achieve with all the talented musicians of the current day and also of past years.

These three young musicians have made their own trademark sound - which is easily recognisable as "their" music.

For me, the lyrics of their songs are "deep" and intellectually superior to most lyrics of songs that we are all used to hearing. At the time their music is upbeat and, once heard, is not forgotten. Their music has intense energy!

If you are familiar with the Lumineers' music, then you will understand my appreciation and fascination with this band. The vocals are intense and strong - and appealing for all age groups.

I went along to the London concert with my sister and my younger daughter (age 14), and they had a great time at the concert.

The Lumineers poured their heart, soul and energy into their performance and their passion for what they have created could be clearly seen.

These three young, attractive and gifted musicians have everything that makes them stand out from the crowd. I am confident that this very special band will continue to develop their great music and grow further in popularity to music listeners not only in London but throughout other countries.

If you ever have the chance to listen to the Lumineers or get tickets to one of their concerts, don't pass up the opportunity - you will be hooked!!!!

It was a lot of fun getting to experience this eclectic music genre. I love classic rock, folk, blue grass, and the blues. The Lumineers seem to be a blend of all 4 genres that I find very appealing.

I loved their mourning of not doing house parties anymore so they came out and as middle of the audience they could and they sang a couple of songs. That is when we got to hear Neyla's voice on it's own. WOW! she has an asset they are under utilizing. Next album they need let her have more solos and add this dimension to their portfolio.

I especially love her cello playing and this is exactly why I love the Lumineers, I realized last night. The cello gives their music that something unique that makes them great. Wesley really needs to get humble and acknowledge better what she contributes. Without her they would be more run of the mill. Also then maybe she would look happy to be doing what she is doing. Come on guys her smile is beautiful and charming so make her smile more!

Not that the rest of the band isn't very talented...it is just the extra special difference and talent needs to be honored that has put them on the world stage.

I have never seen The Lumineers in concert before and I love their music so I was excited to finally see them. They came to the new Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land. I have never been to this venue before and I liked it. I will definitely be going back. The concert actually started on time, which was very surprising to me and I liked that very much. Susto was the first band to come out and play for us. I had never heard of them, but I enjoyed their music. Next was Kaleo, which I had never hear of either, but turns out I did know one of their songs. I really enjoyed seeing them perform. Finally, The Lumineers came out and it was great. They totally knew how to put on a show. They gave us back stories to the songs "Gun Song" and "Charlie Boy" that I did not know and I appreciated that. They talked to the crowd, told us how much they appreciate the fans, played all the songs the fans know, and even went into the middle of the audience to play a couple songs. I would definitely recommend people to see them because it is so worth it. I am very happy that I got the chance to see them. I left the show not wanting it to end.

Honestly, the Lumineers is not the kind of band I would see every year if I had the possibility to do so. The problem is that the sound exactly the same live and on their albums in my opinion. This, along with the huge arena venues they play in, makes the show feel like I'm listening to a record with 20,000 other people: impersonal. It's just not the kind of band you dance to with the crowd, for instance. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time, but a more intimate setting (though, judging their popularity, I don't think this will happen) would be much more appropriate.

One thing I did like: the singer and songwriter Wesley often interacts with the audience, and explains the personal stories that inspired the songs. He was on the brinks of tears when he told us that Long Way From Home was about his father's fight (and eventual demise) against cancer. These stories make you look at the songs in another light. Another surprise: Neyla (the cellist) has an amazing voice! They should give her a more prominent singing role.

All in all, 2.5/5

Wow. What an amazing show. It's such a cool experience to find a band in obscurity, and know they will soon be famous. That's how is was when I discovered the Lumineers in 2013...and they have only gotten better. Last night's concert was exactly why they are what they are. Original songwriting, perfect accompaniment, and the feeling and sound of a band that you met early that hasn't left their original sound. It is such an amazing experience to me, to find a band that you love...and just a few short years later they are headlining. When I stood in that audience, and listened to everyone sing lyrics along to every song....it's such a surreal experience.

Wes even made a point during the show, to mention how they started in people's living rooms, and that they like to get closer to their audience. They proceeded to leave the stage, walk through the crowd and play on a smaller stage, mid-crowd.

Absolutely amazing concert. One of the best I've ever been a part of. I can only say thank you to the band for such an amazing experience.

The most incredible concert! The lumineers are my favourite band, so I'm writing from the viewpoint of someone who knows all the words to every song! But even if you don't, the way the band interact with the audience and tell a story through their music is just amazing. On this tour I saw them at barrowlands in Glasgow and the usher hall in Edinburgh and the atmosphere was great in both. When you're in the audience you just know that you share the same love for their music as everyone around you and it's magical. In Edinburgh they managed to get the whole usher hall quiet and perform two songs without any microphones which they had never tried before but worked so well. The songs are powerful and most of them fairly slow, so it's not a raving concert to go to smashed and dance the night away, it's one to appreciate and to go to with your closest friends to enjoy some incredible music.

mollyporteous’s profile image

Totally worth going to their concert! I really appreciated it when the lead singer has to stop mid-song to apologize and tune his guitar. I also love his small anecdotes before some of the songs, and here I thought I could not love the songs more than I already do, but knowing where he got the inspiration from writing the songs made them absolute gold. And then I guess he noticed most of the audience were recording the show, so he made a deal with us where we are allowed us to film Ho Hey and then we were to put our phone away so we can fully enjoy the show. And everyone followed him! I did not see anyone using their phone, at all! (except the woman in front of me every now and then, but still)

All in all, they are definitely one of their favourite bands now. The other members are really amazing too!

P.S. I loved how their shirt are recycled.

Went to see the Lumineers at O2 Brixton last night. I was well familiar with the venue and like it. Standing for the young folks and seating for the ones that do not need to be smashed in a human jam sandwich to enjoy the concert.

The warm up act was ..... well lets just say that we are not running out to buy the album and the name already slips my mind.

The doors opened at 7. The Lumineers appeared at 9:10 and were promptly off the stage at 10:40. No encore performance. The music was incredible but crowd interaction was totally minimal and they were done after just getting started. This was a sold out show and unfortunately I did not get tickets at the normal price so felt a little cheated but at the end of the day, these are truly talented musicians who perform really well.

alison-d-martin’s profile image

When it comes to high tempo, high energy stompers, you can't go wrong with these three funsters from Colorado.

As usual, they went quite early with the big one ("Ho Hey") and Wes continues to encourage an actively engaged audience (over one watching through a camera lens), which leads to a far more attentive audience; indeed, by the big finish, there wasn't a man, woman or child who wasn't completely in to it.

The new album, being only 33 minutes long, proved easy to learn, with large swathes of the audience seemingly knowing most of the words to most of the songs, which again only added to the atmosphere. The trio of ladies ("Cleopatra", "Angela" and "Ophelia") all went down well with the crowd and the "Stubborn Love" finale was positively Luminescent. Outstanding fun.

The band — led by Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites — is set to open their tour in Maine in mid-August before stopping at several amphitheaters and music festivals, including Aspen’s Jazz Aspen Snowmass festival. Accompanied by James Bay as an opener, they’ll conclude their tour at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 15.

CLIMATE PROJECTS

Reverb's climate project portfolio.

In acknowledgement of the climate impact of touring, The Lumineers dedicated a portion of ticket sales to support REVERB’s Climate Project Portfolio. This tour’s portfolio is designed to support measurable greenhouse gas reductions, address climate justice, advance decarbonization efforts in music, and create lasting positive impacts with the goal of addressing the complex challenges of the climate crisis.

Avoided Deforestation, Methane Destruction

Biodigesters in Mexico

In partnership with Native Energy, this project helps build and install simple biodigester units for subsistence farmers in Mexico. These units break down animal waste yielding gas that powers biogas cookstoves and water heaters as well as farm-generated fertilizer. This helps avoid methane emissions, improves air quality, and provides an alternative to expensive and harmful chemical fertilizers.

Climate Innovation

Decarbonizing Music

REVERB’s Music Decarbonization Project advances innovative climate solutions that directly reduce or eliminate carbon emissions within the music industry. Funding from this project helps develop existing and emerging technologies that increase efficiency, expand clean energy options, and reduce greenhouse gas pollution with a focus on the unique climate challenges of music.

Hozho Homes

The Hozho Homes Program provides Hopi & Navajo families access to off-grid solar photovoltaic systems. The program also supports a workforce development program that will train Native American solar installers to build and maintain off-grid PV systems, create jobs and prepare installers to work with grid-tied projects nationwide. This project was selected in partnership with The Solutions Project .

Kenya Solar Desalination Farms

GivePower’s solar-powered water desalination plants provide clean drinking water to communities that relied on boiling water to make it potable. Providing clean drinking water reduces the burning of wood and coal for water purification and enables young women in the community to attend school or work rather than spend hours carrying drinking water to their homes.
