Mario Kart Tour – How to Get a Fantastic Combo a Total of 10 Times

Image of Aidan O'Brien

The Tokyo Tour is here in Mario Kart Tour, and a whole host of new challenges have arrived. In this guide we will talk about how to get a Fantastic Combo a total of 10 times.

Mario Kart Tour has just been updated, and the Tokyo Tour has begun. This new Tour will once again last for two weeks, giving you plenty of time to wrap up the Challenges that have arrived. One such challenge is to get a Fantastic Combo a total of 10 times. It might sound a bit daunting, but you do have two weeks to complete it and can do so over multiple races.

Mario Kart Tour – Get a Fantastic Combo a Total of 10 Times

Your driver and course combination will be vital to get a Fantastic Combo 10 times. I would suggest trying to rack up Fantastic Combos at 100CC. It’s a good brisk pace on most courses, allowing you to keep combos up, while also not being so fast that you might miss essential coins and ramps to add to the Combo. The other drivers will also be a little less skilled and aggressive, meaning they are less likely to be able to interrupt your combos.

I would also suggest not using any driver that has speed up abilities, as this can once again cause you to miss some coins or ramps, and it might be better to use a driver with a more offensive focused Special Ability to ensure a combo count when you need it. Once again, Yoshi and his homing Yoshi Eggs can save the day on this one.

Your combo will build whenever you perform any of the following actions in the game:

  • Hitting other drivers with items while playing
  • Collecting coins
  • Hitting a drift to get a boost
  • Preforming a jump boost
  • Collecting Items
  • Special Moves

The idea is to go from action to action, jump a ramp, picking up a coin, grabbing an item, drifting around a corner, hitting an enemy with an item, then grabbing another coin, all in one smooth run so that your combo counters stay building. Another great way to build a Combo is with your glider.

To get a Fantastic Combo, you need to do 9 Combo building moves without letting the chain break by going too long between each action. I would strongly suggest you try this Challenge on Tokyo Blur T, the very first race in the Rosalina Cup. It’s a well laid out track to score some easy Combos on, and with practice, you should have no problem threading together 9 Combo building actions on the course.

Mario kart tour: how to maintain a combo streak.

Having trouble maintaining a Combo Streak in Mario Kart Tour and can't figure out why? This guide can help.

In a standard Mario Kart game, your primary objective is to reach 1st place. Mario Kart Tour is decidedly not a standard Mario Kart game, and as such, it flips this objective on its head. Reaching 1st place is nice, of course, but what really matters is your score . In that sense, it's got more in common with a score-chasing arcade game than a conventional racing game.

Related: Mario Kart Player is First Human to Perform Nearly Impossible Skip

As you play Mario Kart Tour , you'll quickly learn that the best way to get a leaderboard-worthy score is to rack up combos . If you want to make sure you're getting the most out of your combos, the following tips should help you out:

Choose The Right Glider

Each racetrack in Mario Kart Tour has a different selection of gliders that provide a bonus to your combo score. Some gliders give a 2x bonus, others give a 3x bonus. Be sure to prioritize the gliders that offer the best possible bonus on any given track . If you level up a glider using level-boost tickets, you can increase your combo score even further.

The Higher The CC, The Higher The Combos

The cc you choose doesn't just affect the speed of the race, it also determines how high your combo bonus can be . A 50cc race can only reach a total of 6 combos, while a 100cc race can reach 11. 150cc is the highest speed available by default, and it maxes out at 16.

It is important to remember that 200cc, which is exclusive to Gold Pass members , does not offer any additional combo bonus.

Don't Let Your Combo Time Run Out

Every time you perform an action (such as collecting a coin, jumping off of a ramp, or performing a mini-turbo) your combo time is extended . If you go too long between actions, your combo will be broken, and you'll have to start over from scratch. Be wary of long stretches of empty track, as these can easily wipe out your combo.

Keep An Eye On Coins

Coins are often placed in out-of-the-way locations, but it's usually worth going for them if it means maintaining a combo.

Always Drift When Taking Corners

When going for long combos, the Drift button near the bottom of your screen is your best friend. Whenever you take a sharp corner, be sure to hold that Drift button until you see blue sparks, then let go for a Mini-Turbo. This provides a boost of speed and an additional combo bonus.

You can continue holding it further until you get orange or purple sparks, which will give you more speed, but if you wait too long, you'll risk running out of combo time . If you turn for long enough without holding the Drift button, the game will eventually start revving up a Mini-Turbo automatically.

Jump, Jump, Jump!

Ramps are the name of the game when it comes to building up combos. Mario Kart Tour's racetracks are littered with ramps, particularly on the trick variant courses. Each time you drive over one of these ramps, your character will perform a trick, which adds to your current combo. If you're trying to get better at chaining combos together, these trick courses are a great way to practice.

Long Gliding Sections Are Easy Combo Fodder

During gliding sections, your combo counter will increase automatically . Try to keep these glides going for as long as possible to really rack up the points. On some courses, the racetrack will split up between a gliding path and a non-gliding path. Take the gliding path whenever possible, and watch those points come pouring in!

Slipstreams Can Be Risky, But Offer Great Rewards

Slipstreaming is a great way to pick up speed when you're falling behind, and it also provides a handy boost to your combo counter. Just drive behind another racer until you see a whooshing effect around your kart. You'll quickly overtake the other racer, but watch out! If the player in front of you has an offensive item like a Koopa shell, ramming into them will cause you to take a tumble.

Item Tickets Can Help You In A Pinch

If you find yourself on a long stretch of track with no coins or ramps in sight, there is one last-ditch option to keep your combo going: Item Tickets! Item Tickets are often given out as Tour Gifts or from the Multiplayer Pipe. You can use one Item Ticket per race to give yourself a fresh batch of items, just as if you'd driven through an item box. Because you can only use one Item Ticket each race, you can't rely on them to get you out of a jam all the time.

It is also important to remember that Item Tickets cannot be used in multiplayer races .

Hope For A Frenzy

Frenzies aren't a reliable way to keep a combo going, as getting one is ultimately up to luck. However, you can increase your likelihood of getting a frenzy by leveling up your character . Note that only characters with three item slots can get a frenzy. This, much like the combo-bonus on the gliders, depends on which course you're racing on.

If you're lucky enough to get a frenzy, keep tapping the screen! Every time you tap, your character will perform a frenzy action, which will add to your total combo score. If you're especially lucky, you can get up to three frenzies in a single race! This can be a real lifesaver if you're playing on the weekly ranked cup, as getting a high placement can earn you plenty of tickets, coins, and rubies.

Most Hazards Aren't Actually Hazardous

If you're accustomed to conventional Mario Kart games, you probably know that running into oncoming cars and trains is a great way to wipe out and lose precious time. Mario Kart Tour works a little bit differently. Objects that seem like they should be hazardous are often just another way to rack up combo points . The train in Kalamari Desert? Drive into it to perform tricks! The cars in New York Minute? You can bounce on top of them! It may take some time to get used to this, but once you've rewired that old Mario Kart muscle memory, you'll be racking up points like a champ.

Once you've got all the tricks of the trade committed to memory, you'll be getting jaw-dropping scores in no time. If you can manage to maintain a combo for the entire duration of a race, you can even earn yourself the coveted Nonstop Combo bonus!

Mario Kart Tour: How to Get a Fantastic Combo a Total of 5 Times

Image of Josh Broadwell

Mario Kart Tour ‘s latest update is here, bringing with it a horde of new challenges (as always). One of those is somewhat of a doozy, too. It’s the “Get a Fantastic Combo a Total of 5 Times” challenge.

We’ll break down what a Fantastic combo is and how to get one, plus offer some tips for how to chain Fantastic combos.

What Are Fantastic Combos?

Mario Kart Tour combos are where you string together a set number of actions in a certain timeframe. A Fantastic combo starts when you’ve pieced together 9 actions without letting too much time lapse between actions.

How to Chain Fantastic Combos

As much of a pain as getting a Fantastic combo might sound, there are fortunately quite a few ways you can pull one off.

We mentioned a few of these in our guide to getting higher scores , but here are all the actions you can perform in Mario Kart Tour , together for convenience:

  • Start a race with a rocket start, which you do by tapping the screen when the countdown is at 2
  • Use mini-boosts on all turns
  • Take advantage of slipstreams when you’re behind an opponent, where you’re following directly behind and gradually pick up speed until you can pass them
  • Use ramps and jump pads as much as possible
  • Glide as long as you can (when you’re gliding)
  • Tap as much as you can during frenzies
  • Collect coins
  • Use items, including attack and boost items
  • Use a character’s special move
  • Using an item right before or right after a jump boost

There are a couple of things to keep in mind to give yourself the biggest advantage in chaining these actions together.

Consider the Course

Don’t pick courses with tons of obstacles, like Bowser’s Castle or DK Pass, because it just creates opportunities for your combos to get interrupted. If you do great with drifts and boosts, then consider a shorter one like Toad’s Circuit so you can take full advantage of coins, drifts, boosts, and items.

Don’t Use Speed Abilities

Characters with abilities that increase your speed won’t be your best friend here. You need time to work in as many combos as possible.

Make It Easy

Play in lower CC ranks so you don’t have to worry about opponents messing your plans up.

That’s it for how to get Fantastic combos 5 times, but be sure to check out our growing list of Mario Kart Tour guides  as well, including:

Combo Cruiser

The Combo Cruiser is a High-End kart in Mario Kart Tour . It made its debut in the 2022 Los Angeles Tour and is the signature kart of Chargin' Chuck . The Combo Cruiser is composed of several fast food items on a tray. A hamburger serves as the front of the kart, the sides have fries with ketchup on them, and a drink serves as the rear of the kart, with the straw serving as the exhaust pipe, which sprays orange soda when getting a speed boost in a similar manner to Kamek's Zoom Broom 's magical effects and the ink in the Inkstriker and Splat Buggy in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe . Star Burger logos are located on the sides of the tray, at the back, and on the drink. The kart uses a new set of burger-shaped tires, and the emblem is located on a toothpick at the front of the kart, as well as on the drink. The Combo Cruiser increases the duration of Mini-Turbo boosts and the number of points earned for performing a Mini-Turbo.

The Best Combinations For Karts And Drivers In Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch , with its continuous waves of DLC, still feels fresh and fun years after its release. And with the game on Switch Online Expansion Pass, it’s easier now than ever for newcomers to the series to join in the fun of Mario Kart .

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: All DLC Racers, Ranked

But Mario Kart can be kind of intimidating if you don’t quite know where to start, especially if you’re playing online against seasoned pros. In our list, we’ve detailed some of the best Mario Kart setups, to help you try to find the best Mario Kart 8 combination for you.

Updated December 27, 2023 by Quinton O'Connor: Now that every wave of DLC in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's wonderful expansion pass is behind us, we're looking forward to several more years of play. We're also looking back at our coverage articles with some fresh insight.

City Tripping Isabelle

The Animal Crossing -themed scooter is a perfect match for a character like Isabelle. The light weight, high acceleration, and handling combination make up for what the City Tripper lacks in speed. Keep your traction and speed in check with Retro Off-road tires and a sturdy glider like the Plane Glider .

This Isabelle combination comes in handy for those trickier tracks like the ones in the Turnip Cup or Star Cup. You'll keep Isabelle smiling all the way to first with this combo!

Pipe Frame Perfect Toadette

Featherweight drivers can be tough to handle for players unfamiliar with just how little weight you add to your build with these tiny tots, but with the right build, Toadette and others in the weight class can shine! If you put Toadette onto a speed-boosting vehicle , how light she is can prove a definite advantage with her acceleration !

Pair her with the Roller or Azure Roller wheels to cash in on that acceleration power, and finish the set with an Accel Glider to make Toadette really soar.

Wario's Pink Cat Car

The antithesis of the franchise star, Wario, has been on Nintendo’s roster for a long time. And though he looks sort of hilarious in the Cat Cruiser, there is merit to the combo.

The low traction of the Cruiser makes underwater tracks like the ones in the Mushroom Cup a lot trickier, but the Cyber-Slick tires bring the speed and weight up to compensate for the loss when you’re taking on hardy desert courses like Cheese Land and Dry Dry Desert. The Wario Wing is just for style, but that’s what matters most, right?

Isabelle In The Shoe

You may find, depending on your playstyle, that the City Tripper bike leaves something to be desired, even if Isabelle looks adorable in it. The solution? The Sneeker , a giant shoe with wheels. Great handling and acceleration make up for the car's lack of speed, while the Flower Glider gives you just a little more traction.

Mario Kart 8: Every Stat Ranked By Importance

Leaf Tires and the New Horizons-themed Paper Glider add that perfect Animal Crossing touch. Just watch out for rough wrecks while speed-boosting.

Morton With The Pipe Frame

Mario Kart 8’s roster features eight of Bowser’s offspring, and they sure know how to race. Morton is a heavyweight racer , which means you have to balance him out well with the right Kart to maintain his speed advantage . The best way to do this is with the Pipe Frame Kart .

The tires make less of a difference with Morton, but you can’t go wrong with the stylish GLA Tires . This balanced combo is a good way to storm through the single-player 150cc category and get that gold.

Baby Mario Biddybuggy

The five baby versions of the main recurring Mario series characters are cute as buttons. Baby Mario is a more adept racer than he looks, considering he’s an infant with a driver’s license. Fitting the ridiculously adorable Biddybuggy with the Cyber Slick tires turns Baby Mario’s playground car into a racing machine.

Many different gliders can work with this combination, depending on which stat you want to boost, so check your Kart’s menu while you’re picking it out. This combination screams through most of the 200cc tracks with ease, if you’re looking to finally take on the hardest challenge in the game.

Yoshi With The Standard Bike

If something isn’t broken, why fix it? Yoshi on the Standard Bike remains a strong combo through and through. The speed is a little low , but adding on the Waddle Wing glider brings your speed up to a much more tolerable level while keeping the bike's weight down where it needs to be.

With the Retro Off-Road tires added, the Standard Bike can cut turns harder, making drifting and recovering after a hard Red Shell hit a breeze.

DK: A Big Ape On A Little Scooter

You have to offset Donkey Kong’s immense weight somehow, and the simplest way to do it is with a small vehicle like Mr. Scooty . Adding the Monster tires helps even out your numbers and makes it a lot easier to see where you’re going.

Donkey Kong takes up a considerable amount of the screen, so it’s important to know your tracks and utilize items as often as possible. A nice air-boosting glider like the Parachute is a great addition to this combo.

Waluigi’s Wild Wigglin’

The Wild Wiggler is an underrated Kart. With high-speed drivers like Waluigi behind the wheel, this little bug vehicle hits some high speeds with quick acceleration . The Roller wheels give you a wide drift that takes some time to get used to, but you can choose to tighten this up with any variety of the Off-Road tires.

The MKTV parafoil is a great glider that helps keep the Kart’s weight down and lets you speed along any track you choose.

Blue Falcon Bowser

Are you confident enough to handle wide drifts and screamingly high top speeds ? If so, then Bowser is going to be the driver for you. You’ll need a lightweight Kart like the Blue Falcon to compensate for the weight of Bowser’s might, but throw on the Cyber Slick tires and the Bowser Kite , and he’s ready to go.

The acceleration is a little slow , making this combo better for circuit races than slippery, twisting tracks like Ice Ice Outpost.

Tiny Scooting Daisy

Baby Daisy is a tough driver to beat. She is a formidable opponent on the Mr. Scooty , even though it almost looks too silly to be a viable combination. Giving this Kart the Slick tires beefs up the speed advantage without sacrificing too much of the control you have over the little toy scooter.

Mario Kart 8: The Hardest Tracks To Perfect

If you’re having trouble with hard tracks like the Mario Kart Tour tracks, you may want to break out this combo and head for the shortcuts - Baby Daisy can handle them with ease.

All Gold Everything

Gold Mario in the Gold Kart is an obvious choice. After all, why wouldn’t the hardest combo to unlock be one of the best? Gold Mario and the matching Kart, wheels, and glider will take a lot of playtime to obtain, but with high speed and tight handling , the combo is definitely worth the time and effort.

Go for gold with this combination - both with your driver and kart combo, and your future first-place prizes.

Supersonic Pink Gold Peach

Paris Promenade, Coconut Mall, and the rest of the Golden Dash Cup courses were practically made for Pink Gold Peach, especially piloting the high-octane Jet Bike . The Crimson Slim tires bring the handling up to help with the high speeds of the bike, and the Peach Parasol takes some heavy lifting off of the sheer weight of all that metal.

Traction may be low , but on the raceway-type tracks where speed is king, you’re absolutely (pink) golden.

Inkling Girl And Matching Buggy

Don’t you love it when the aesthetically pleasing, perfectly matched choices are the ones that work well? Coming straight from the Splatoon arena and into Mario Kart 8, Inkling Girl and the Splat Buggy are a well-rounded combo that’s hard to beat.

The Super Glider and Off-Road tires add the perfect amount of resistance and air to make fast, jump-heavy tracks like Excitebike Arena and Dragon Driftway in the Egg Cup tons of fun.

Link And The Triforce Trifecta

Link is surprisingly a new addition to Mario Kart, considering how long he’s been a Nintendo icon , but he entered the scene with a hell of a splash. With Link as the driver of the Master Cycle, Triforce Tires, and Hylian Kite included, he’s practically unstoppable.

This combination offers well-balanced speed and weight with a medium acceleration , making it easy to drift around long turns, cut between obstacles, and stay stable at high speeds. Tricky tracks like the ones in The Bell Cup are a great place to really make this combo shine.
