Ultimate Bali (October) Travel Guide

What to do in Bali in October ?

I live in Bali, so I have seen the Island all year round . My favourite season is the wet season when the humidity levels are high and the rainy days are in . But if you come as a tourist, the bali’s dry season might be the best ( average high temperature lower and little rain ), but this is the peak tourist season and during school holidays it can get busy and hotel prices higher .

In my opinion, October is a good time to go, perfect time between dry and wet season, with not so high temperatures ( it is relative ) and almost no days of rain. This is an excellent month for beach visits and activities because fewer people to visit . It is the beginning of the low season ( same it is relative as Bali is busy all year round ) and one of the best months if you want to experience the Balinese real vibe .

Enjoy your time while you visit bali. The island of the gods is the ideal destination in southeast asia if you want an easy and unforgettable trip !

October in Bali is indeed the best time to experience the island’s amazing beauty, culture, and great weather. During this month, you’ll see a mix of dry and rainy season days, which makes everything super green. The average temperature is nice, around 27-30°C, so you can explore comfortably.

If you love the beach, adventure, or culture . You’ll find stunning beaches, top-notch places to surf, and awesome spots for diving and snorkeling. Plus, the natural wonders like rice terraces and Mount Batur are waiting for you. And don’t forget the cool temples and cultural events in October that give you a peek into Bali’s rich heritage. It’s truly a gem in the midst of the peak season.

In October, Bali experiences a transition period from the dry season to the wet season, resulting in a unique blend of weather patterns and temperatures across the island. The weather in Bali during October is characterized by a mix of sunny days and occasional rainfall. The transition to the wet season also brings about an increase in humidity, creating a lush, green landscape across the island. Visitors can expect to encounter vibrant foliage and blooming flowers, adding to the natural beauty of Bali during this time of year.

Travelers should be prepared for the possibility of short, intense rain showers and occasional thunderstorms, which can impact outdoor activities and beach days. It is advisable to pack lightweight rain gear and plan indoor excursions or cultural activities to enjoy during inclement weather.

I am Eric, a French Australian citizen based between Australia, Asia and Bali an I love to travel and experience the world. I generally like outdoor activities, wellness, great food and venues , party and real local adventures ! I am a Yoga practitioner and fitness lover

I created this  blog because I love to travel and I want to share my experiences with others. I’ve been traveling since I was a child, and I’ve been to over 50 countries. I’ve seen some amazing things and met some amazing people, and I want to help others experience the same things.

I believe that travel is one of the best ways to learn about the world and about yourself. When you travel, you’re forced to step outside of your comfort zone and experience new things. You learn about different cultures, different religions, and different ways of life. You also learn about yourself, your strengths, and your weaknesses.

Travel can also be a great way to make new friends. When you’re traveling, you’re surrounded by people from all over the world, and you’re all in the same boat. You’re all there to explore and experience new things, and that can create a bond between people.

Its combination of sun, sand, and surf has made it even more well-known among worldwide visitors than the island itself. The gentle morning swells make Kuta beach one of the most enjoyable places to visit in Bali in October to spend some fun times with your loved ones. It's a varied atmosphere during and after sundown, with amicable beach soccer matches, impromptu 'beach bars' serving cold Bintangs and local foods, drumming jam sessions, and even fire dancers. Weather & Temperature in Bali in October

Bali is an island that experiences a tropical climate all year long with relatively high degrees and humidity levels.

While the dry season is the ideal time to go if you want to enjoy bright and dry weather, the island is a well-liked vacation spot all year round and offers plenty of things to do even in the wet season.

Despite being pleasant and comfortable all year round, Bali has two distinct seasons, rainy and dry, but not every day will be bright even if you travel in the dry and busy season.

Even though October is a month during the dry season, because it is at the end of that season, there are occasionally rainstorms in this month.

Despite usually occurring in the morning or early afternoon, the storms often pass quickly, leaving behind sunlight and a clear sky.

However, brief rains shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your vacation as long as you’re not very upset by them and you have a nice rain jacket with you.

In October, local rain falls more often during the day in Bali’s highlands.

Also, Bali’s highlands have cooler daytime air temperatures, and the heat will feel warmer the further away you are from the mountains.

The average daytime temperature in Bali’s highland regions is 27°C.

Meanwhile, the temperature in the air at night might drop as low as 17°C.

While there is less likelihood of local rain in October close to the lowlands of Bali, the temperature in lowlands like Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Jimbaran, Canggu, and Uluwatu Temple Pecatu is warmer during October, hitting 33°C throughout the day.

What to wear in Bali in October

When going to Bali in October, you can choose to wear light clothes, because the temperature in October is still warm and not much different from that of the summer, however, certain adjustments still need to be performed.

How you should dress in Bali is heavily influenced by the occasion for which you are dressing.

So, for instance, you should bring some sports attire and shoes if you intend to participate in any adventurous activities.

For this sort of sport, athletic shorts and a shirt are appropriate, and trail running shoes would also be a great choice.

When going to the beaches, men can wear tanks, surf shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, while women can wear bikinis, loose cover-ups, or shorts with a tank top.

In case you didn’t know, tropical islands get a lot of rain, and if you go in October, even If officially it’s still not the wet season, your chances of experiencing them are quite high, so we advise either a raincoat or an umbrella for that.

And, don’t forget to take other items such as sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, and a backpack where you can hold all of your necessities as you tour the island.

Crowds in Bali in October

In Bali, October is an off-peak season month, so there won’t be as many tourists as you might in some other months.

You’ll also discover the island to be tranquil and populated by residents and ex-pats because you’ll be skipping the busiest holiday months like November and December.

Being the off-peak season month, October also provides the best chances to avoid the tourist crowds at the island’s most popular attractions, such as the temples, to spend the day resting on Bali’s tranquil beaches, and to locate some of the nicest hotels without spending a lot of money.

Prices in Bali in October

Bali is a cheap vacation spot, but it can also be as pricey and opulent as you wish.

The Prophets Birthday – Mawlid al Nabi

Mawlid or Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif  is the observance of the birthday of Islamic prophet Muhammad which is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar. 12th Rabi' al-awwal is the accepted date among most of the Sunni scholars, while Shi'a scholars regard 17th Rabi' al-awwal as the accepted date. The history of this celebration goes back to the early days of Islam when some of the Tabi‘un ( followers who received their teachings first- and secondhand ) began to hold sessions in which poetry and songs composed to honor Muhammad were recited and sung to the crowds. It has been said that the first Muslim ruler to officially celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in an impressive ceremony was Muzaffar al-Din Gökböri. The Ottomans declared it an official holiday in 1588 known as Mevlid Kandil. The term Mawlid is also used in some parts of the world, such as Egypt, as a generic term for the birthday celebrations of other historical religious figures such as Sufi saints. Please remember that the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday is a public holiday in Indonesia. It is a day off for the general population, and offices and most businesses are closed.

Best Time to Visit Bali

Planning your perfect Bali holiday? Find out about the weather in Bali to choose the best time to explore this enchanting island!

Dry Season (April-October): The best time to visit Bali is in the dry season (also the high season), which brings clear skies and sunny days. Although there may be more crowds during this time, it’s ideal for beach lovers and ocean adventurers, with the best surfing conditions, particularly on the west coast. During these months, you can also witness fantastic cultural festivals, like Galungan and Kuningan, which really bring the island to life.

Wet Season (November-March) : Although you can expect downpours, the rainy season is a beautiful time to visit Bali, when the island becomes its most green and luscious. It’s also an excellent time for budget travelers and backpacking in Bali, as it’s considered the low season, with fewer crowds and lower prices. Although it may rain most days, this tropical goodness only lasts a few hours, and you can typically expect sunshine again later in the day. What’s more, these rains mean you can see the rivers and waterfalls in Bali at their most powerful.

Best time to visit Bali for activities: If surfing is your thing, head to Bali between May and September when waves are at their best. Culture vultures should plan around the best festivals in Bali. For example, the Bali Kite Festival or the Arts Festival that take place in the summer months.

Whatever you’re looking for, every season in Bali has its charm, so whether you’re chasing waves, adrenaline adventures, or sunny beach days, you’ll find the perfect time to delve into Bali’s magic. Get ready to create unforgettable memories in this tropical paradise!

Coastlines and Beaches in Bali

The vibrant, luscious greens of Bali’s jungles and paddy fields are beautifully complemented by its fantastic coastline and neighboring islands. Whether it’s the spectacular cliffs and crashing emerald waves of Uluwatu or the long beaches bouncing with live music in Canggu , there are plenty of beach spots to choose from on your vacation in Bali.

Head offshore to the incredible islands surrounding Bali to fulfill paradise dreams! Discover tiny islands with white sand and clear oceans. Some of the best places to visit in Bali are Gili Air or Gili Meno, where it’s easy to see turtles, colorful corals, and tropical fish. Here, experience the simple pleasures of a world without cars and only gentle walks through palm tree forests and fallen coconuts. For something a little more adventurous, experience the exhilarating island of Nusa Penida , an island home to extraordinary cliffs, swelling oceans, and mammoth manta rays.

Food, Culture, and Religion in Bali

Aptly named as the ‘Island of the Gods’, Bali showcases a unique sense of spirituality that’s deeply rooted in Hinduism among predominantly Muslim Indonesia. As such, different religions, cultures, and customs live happily side by side, always with a smile and a deep appreciation for the enjoyment of life. It is this joy, peace, and unique philosophy of life that makes Bali so special. Not only that but also the countless beautiful temples and colorful shrines, often surrounded by wonderful nature and wild monkeys. Places like Ubud are the ultimate jungle oasis of tranquility and calm.

Bali’s culinary scene is one of the best in the world, offering a mix of aromatic meat dishes and vegetarian delights. Enjoy delicious rice dishes like Nasi Goreng and Nasi Campur or succulent Satay skewers. As it’s a tropical island, you’ll also find plenty of fresh seafood and tropical fruits to snack on while you enjoy this beautiful paradise.

Why You Should Travel to Bali

It’s certainly easy to see how Bali has been elevated to its status as one of the best holiday destinations in the world. The island will steal hearts, captivate imaginations, and continuously tempt travelers to return for more, time and time again.

Its diversity is what’s most compelling, with adventures for every type of traveler. Some of the best things to do in Bali include exploring the crater’s edge and hiking epic volcanos, ziplining through gorges, and swimming with turtles.

When you’re done with activities on your Bali holiday, there’s plenty of relaxation to be had, whether that’s swinging in hammocks under coconut trees, enjoying healing Balinese spa treatments, or savoring candlelit dinners under the stars.

Safety and Travel Advice in Bali

Travelers who want to vacation in Bali, a magical island paradise in Indonesia, should take the necessary precautions to enjoy a safe trip. The following information, given by the government of Indonesia, helps visitors get the most out of their journey.

Natural Disasters: Although natural disasters happen infrequently in Bali, the island is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity. Stay informed by registering with your embassy to receive emergency updates on your trip.

Crime and safety in Bali: While Bali is generally safe, petty theft can happen. Exercise caution by keeping valuables secure and leaving any important belongings at home. Like any destination, we recommend avoiding isolated areas at night and sticking to well-lit spots with more people.

Traffic in Bali: Traffic in Bali can be chaotic. The island’s infrastructure and population are rapidly growing, meaning there can be traffic congestion and queues. Although it’s very normal to use scooters and motorbikes, always wear a helmet and protective clothing, and ensure you have travel insurance. During the rainy season, be aware of road conditions, as the tarmac can be slippery.

Cultural Sensitivity: Bali is named ‘Island of the Gods’ for its rich culture and spirituality. Please make sure to always respect local customs, be that wearing appropriate clothing or asking permission to take photos of locals.

Travel Insurance: One of the most important things you need to do before your Bali holiday is purchase travel insurance. Although Bali itself is safe, there is potential for accidents – for example, an injury after surfing, a canceled flight, or lost baggage. Check out these best travel insurances .

October is the last fine month of the year for visiting Bali's islands and beaches and for adventurous outdoor activities. Here are some of the most suitable places for you to explore and experience during your visit to Bali in October.

1. Thomas Beach for Sunbathing and Walks

Occupying a wide sandy cove, west of Padang Padang, Thomas Beach is the place to go to spread out those beach towels or wander leisurely along the 700-meter tropical shore in the last month of dry before the rains set in. Sun loungers can be rented, and being on the west of the peninsula, it's a great spot for sunsets .

Of course, there are many other awesome beaches on Bali: Padang Padang next door is great for surfing and featured in "Eat, Pray, Love", Jimbaran has seafood and quietness, while Seminyak has most dining and nightlife. Visit the beaches that suit you in October's nice beach weather!

2. Nusa Penida for Diving

October is the last chance to go diving before wet season conditions prevail. Nusa Penida is the best place for manta rays and other sea life , and October is the last month of its Ocean Sunfish (Mola) period. Nusa Penida is a Bali must-dive stretch of sea, but it has more challenging currents.

For easier dive sites, Tulamben has Liberty Wreck and Menjangan has an awesome coral wall… Whatever your level, diving should be done in October.

Check the sample itineraries of Bali for 10 days .

3. Nusa Lembongan for Simpler Watersports

Nusa Lembongan is a 40-minute boat trip from Bali, which is very doable in October before the rains come and make the sea choppier. The small island is known for a quieter beach relaxation, but also more purist watersports , which is something you should enjoy while the weather is fine in October. The aqua blue water is great for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. Surfing is popular too, but it's not the best place to begin surfing.

4. Mount Batur for Volcano Hiking

As the chance of rain increases through October, the easier and more popular volcano hike at Mount Batur (1,717 m) is recommended. You may hike up it in 2 hours and should enjoy an awesome sunrise, as most of October's low rainfall comes in afternoon/evening showers.

As it's about 10°C (18°F) cooler on the top of Batur compared to sea level, bring some warmer clothing with you, especially for pre-dawn treks.

5. Tegallalang for Rice Terrace Hiking

The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are only half an hour from Ubud. They are especially popular in October as crops ripen and sunshine is plentiful . Tegallalang's ripe loops of hillside paddies and palm trees create a photogenic landscape to explore and photo in October.

Tegallalang is more recommended in October than Jatiluwih , which is an hour further from Ubud, as there is a greater chance of rain affecting a trip, particularly towards the end of the month. On the other hand, Jatiluwih is the more scenic of Bali's rice terraces and it is less crowded due to accessibility.

Suggested reading: Bali Rice Terraces: The Best 8 Rice Terraces on Bali.

The pleasant dry-season weather is ending in Bali in October, and Bali is in its shoulder season, so hotel and flight prices decrease somewhat from the July/August peak period, and there's less crowding especially in areas popular.

Pack light, cool, quick-drying clothing . An umbrella will be enough to provide shelter from showers and sun. Sandals and cool, breathable footwear are generally recommended.

UV levels will be high, so pack plenty of sun cream, a sunhat, and good sunglasses . Insect/mosquito repellent may be required, especially in evenings and rural areas.

For Bali's Hindu temples and religious sites, bring some light longer clothing to cover arms and legs , which will also help to protect you from the sun and mosquitoes.

For hiking on the Tegallalang terraces or Mount Batur, strong comfortable trainers or light hiking boots should be packed to support your feet/ankles.

9 Reasons why you must visit Krabi(Thailand)

Beautiful Phuket

1. Taste Balinese wine and take advantage of a traditional cooking class

October is the ideal month to taste local wines, as it coincides with the wine season that runs from April to October . There are different options, but all offer a pleasurable experience . Balinese food is very spicy, so to balance your palate, I recommend tasting the dishes in the company of their traditional drinks that stand out for their sweet taste. If you plan to be at least 5 days in Bali , there are different places where you can live this experience, like:

  • Badung Market: it is a traditional flea market open every day, the twenty-four hours. It offers ideal stalls to taste typical plates like the nasi campur, a delicious combination of rice with chicken or fish garnishes. It is usually served with watermelon juice, although you can also accompany it with a fruity wine.
  • Hatten Wines: it is a winery located in Bali from 1994, which offers tastings of tropical wine, strolls by the vineyards and tours by the wine cellars of production.
  • Village of Tenganan: it is one of the zones of greater production of the wine Tuak Wayah, especially in October.

Another more complete option is to sign up for a cooking class at a local family's home in Ubud, to learn about their traditions and combine the gastronomic experience with traditional drinks. It usually starts from 73 euros and you can learn how to prepare Pepes Ikan, a meat cooked in banana leaves. You can also learn the secrets of Bakso, a dumpling soup much sought after at street stalls. Keep in mind that October is the ideal month to opt for this experience, as it is low season and you can find discounts. In addition, at the end of the month it is a good plan to protect you from the first local rains.

Best wines of Bali in October

  • Balinese or palm wine: it is a traditional drink of Bali, elaborated based on sap of sugar cane palms. In the region two options are offered, the Tuak Wayah that is drier and to base of alcohol, and the Tuak Manis that is a sweet wine without alcohol. Generally, the harvest season is from March to October .
  • Grape wine: is an exotic wine made from local grapes, as well as grapes brought from Chile and Australia. It has a fresh and fruity flavor, ideal to accompany local dishes. Note that the season runs from June to October .
  • Fruit wine: this is a fruity wine made from lychee, guava, pineapple and mango. In October, almost all these fruits are in season, except lychee. So you can taste a wine full of aroma, flavor and sweetness, from the fruit of your choice. If you want to try lychee wine, the appropriate season is from June to August .
  • Arak: is a traditional alcoholic beverage, made from fermented rice, which is usually consumed in October. It is used to toast after the closing of the rice harvest and in some rituals that are carried out according to the Balinese calendar .
  • Brem: it is a wine of black rice, with acid flavor that is used in the religious ceremonies in October.

Book a Balinese cooking class

2. Insert yourself in the route of Eat, Pray and Love in Bali

The Eat, Pray and Love tour is a wonderful adventure , therefore a must-do activity on your Indonesian itinerary. It is inspired by the book and film by Elizabeth Gilbert, who will take you on a spiritual journey through her journey in Bali. Undoubtedly, it is the ideal month to live this adventure, since in the novel the author arrived at the island precisely in October. In addition, in the dry season the activities outdoors are more successful.

You can find options from 68 euros , I recommend you to reserve at least 10 hours to enjoy each experience. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best tours of Bali since it allows you to experience:

  • A visit to the sacred temple Tirta Empul where the ritual of purification is performed, which allows you to receive the blessing of Balinese healers and seers, while you immerse yourself in sacred pools.
  • A yoga class that usually offers the tour with amazing views of the mountains.
  • A walk through the rice terraces of Ubud, which are noted for their dreamlike scenery.
  • A tour of the filming locations of the movie Eat, Pray and Love.

Book a private tour of Eat, Pray, Love

3. Escape to Kintamani village for the coffee harvest

Kintamani village is an important location, located under the Batur volcano. It is undoubtedly one of the best destinations for your vacation itinerary, as it offers hiking areas , hot spring oases and the opportunity to tour the coffee plantations during the closing of the harvest. It is located in the mountains, so you can go up in jeep to lighten the trip and explore the geological accidents of the volcano.

As for the harvest of coffee it is an activity that you cannot lose you, if you plan to be at least 5 days in Bali . Here the grains are picked in a traditional way, without chemicals or machinery. I recommend this experience to witness:

  • The ceremony of ngaben , it is a Balinese Hindu funeral ritual, in which the body of a deceased person is burned in a wooden coffin. It symbolizes the liberation and the new beginnings, in addition it is not governed by the Balinese calendar and the locals usually carry out it to celebrate the harvest. Keep in mind that it is an expensive celebration, and in fact it is an authentic miracle to coincide with one, since they reserve it for special moments.
  • The Kecak dance , is a traditional Balinese dance that is accompanied by music and fire shows.
  • The production process , since you will be able to cross the plantations to observe how the coffee is cultivated, processed and roasted.
  • The history of the coffee in Bali, while you enjoy the views of the mountain and the lake Batur.

Book a bike tour of Kintamani

4. Take advantage of the activities of the rice harvest

The rice harvest is governed by the Balinese agricultural calendar , usually taking place twice a year between April and May , as well as between October and November . It offers interesting activities that are worth taking a look at. During these dates you will be able to visit plantations of other products, rice terraces and to know traditional cultural. You can enjoy a guided tour of the rice fields where tastings, picnics and yoga classes are offered overlooking the waterfalls .

This is your chance to taste the famous krupuk rice crackers, or nasi goreng fried rice. Generally, plantings are prepared on terraced terraces that have amazing panoramic views and Jatiluwih is one of the most famous , due to its size and age. It is one of the best things to do in Bali and you can find guided experiences from 47 euros , which facilitate the access to the rice fields.

It hires a tour for cascades and rice fields

5. Delight yourself with the Balinese dances

Bali is an island where the dance is one of the most important means of expression, in fact there are different types of performances. The sacred dances are executed in the religious rituals and inside the best local temples , while the semi-sacred dances take place in the patios of the temples and accompany certain celebrations. Training dances take place in the streets and tourist areas, and the Kecak dance includes fire shows and is used to narrate ancestral stories.

In October it is a special activity and usually accompanies religious rituals of the season. It is also used to give thanks for harvests of wine, coffee, rice and other local products. If you prefer to play it safe and book an experience in advance, nothing better than enjoying a Balinese dance at the Royal Palace in Ubud. It is believed that this specific choreography was born in the 19th century, since it was created for the entertainment of the royal family.

Buy tickets for a Legong dance show

6. Take a gastronomic tour to taste seasonal dishes

The island is full of goodness and among them stands out its exquisite gastronomy. If a cooking class seems to you amused and attractive to the palate, then during your trip you have to venture to try seasonal dishes. The most famous dish is Bubur Mengguh, whose ingredients are harvested in October and have a unique flavor based on meat porridge and spices.

If you prefer, you can taste the local delicacies on a guided tour. This way, you can visit the local markets, discover emblematic places to eat and choose the best street food stalls . It is ideal if you plan to be at least 7 days in Bali , since at the time of looking for restaurants to eat, you will not be to the drift. Probably this experience will allow you to taste the roast of pork babi guling , which is seasoned with seasonal spices.

Reserve a gastronomic tour

7. Relax in the best beaches of Bali

October is one of the months of average tourist affluence , reason why its better paradisiacal beaches usually are little crowded . There are many attractive options, since the island has around 160 bays to choose. Specifically, the most recommended during this season are those on the north and east coasts , which stand out for their dry and not very rainy weather that favors beach activities.

On the beaches you can enjoy a variety of entertainment options such as surfing, exploring marine species and coral reefs, renting a kayak, enjoying the sunset, boarding a cruise or relaxing with a Balinese massage. If you want to have a good time, I recommend you opt for:

  • Amed Beach: a paradisiacal beach located in the east of the island, which stands out for its black volcanic sand in contrast with the turquoise waters.
  • Lovina: is a fishing area with small uncrowded coves, where you can see dolphins at dawn. October is the ideal season, since the waters remain calm and with the appropriate conditions for this sighting.
  • Virgin Beach: it is of the best beaches of Bali , in fact it is considered an exotic and little known bay.
  • Permuteran: it is a beach of crystalline waters, therefore it is ideal to practice diving and snorkeling.

8. It knows the local vegan gastronomy in the Vegan Festival of Bali.

If you prefer vegan food or simply want to experience new foods, you can go to the Vegan Festival of Bali. It takes place in the spiritual capital of the island, better known as Ubud. It's an October tradition that will pique your taste buds' curiosity, as you can learn about this lifestyle and the importance of sustainability. It is one of the best things to do in Bali , if you want to explore its cultural diversity and gastronomic traditions.

In a perfect event to rest a little of the heavy meals, as well as of the extra seasoned dishes. Here you won't get bored as it is usually accompanied by food tastings , cooking workshops, live entertainment and even small flea markets to buy vegan products. It can include meditation events , yoga classes and Balinese dance performances. For some classes and experiences, advance registration is required .

9. Don't Miss a Luwak Coffee Tour

The coffee Kopi Luwak of Bali is one of the most expensive and rare of the world, due to its meticulous process of elaboration . For some it can turn out to be little appetizing, due to the fact that the seeds are gathered of the feces of the civet. This is an animal that resembles cats, monkeys and raccoons, which eats the coffee seeds it collects in the jungle and then expels them. Later, it is carefully processed to go to market.

Unfortunately, some farms confine these animals for use as a tourist attraction, so it is essential to choose plantations free of animal abuse . In October you can take the Luwak coffee route, since at the end of the harvest there is a better chance of finding this beverage or the beans at a good price .

It has a bitter flavor and similar to the chocolate, if you want to prove it you can visit the plantations Bali Pulina to appreciate the process of cultivation and elaboration of the coffee. Undoubtedly, it is an experience that you cannot lose, especially if you plan to be at least 5 days in the island .

10. Venture to the Bali Triathlon sporting event.

Bali Triathlon is a sport event that usually takes place in Bali in October, specifically in the traditional village Sanur. If you want to keep moving during your vacation, you should definitely consider this plan that takes you around this picturesque local village. It is a tradition since 2007, which is accompanied by the pleasant breeze of October.

Generally, it is necessary to be over 18 years old, be in good physical condition and pay a registration fee. Additionally, the marathon route varies according to the category you choose, ranging from Olympic distance for experts, sprint distance for intermediate level and 5 km race for beginners. During the experience you can take a bike ride, receive a Balinese blessing, enjoy a dinner and take advantage of a party to close the night.

The Balinese calendar and Balinese rituals in October

Bali is an island where the religious and cultural activities can vary unexpectedly, due to the fact that many are governed by different calendars like:

  • The Saka calendar or lunar calendar: which fixes activities around the phases of the moon. It governs some celebrations, but its system has the same number of days as the Pakwon calendar, with the difference that every thirty months a leap month is added.
  • The Pakwon calendar: it is a complex system that sets certain celebrations every 210 days such as Saraswati, Galungan, Nyepi and Pagerwesi.
  • The Gregorian calendar or solar calendar: it is governed by the phases of the sun and is very similar to the calendar used in the rest of the world. Mostly, it governs New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Independence Day.

If you are lucky, some religious rituals can coincide with October or with the month of your visit, which would be great because, without a doubt, they are some of the best things to do in Bali .

Best Time to Visit Bali: Month by Month Breakdown

Bali is one of the most popular islands in Southeast Asia, and deciding the best time to visit Bali is going to affect not only the weather you experience but also how many other tourists are there with you.

Like most of tropical Indonesia, Bali only really has two seasons throughout the year, the dry season and the wet season.

All year-round, it’s hot, and for many, Bali can be visited any time of the year, but between November and March, you can expect downpours most days during the wet season.

April to October is the dry season and you can expect larger crowds and higher prices but the weather will be perfect.

Often, the best time to visit Bali is a trade-off between the weather and the number of visitors.

To help you to plan your trip, here’s our guide on the best time to visit Bali.

The dry season is the best time to visit Bali when it comes to the weather because for half of the year you can expect beautiful clear skies and almost no rainfall.

The dry season in Bali runs from May to October, although this can vary each year. The peak months are the height of the Balinese winter, which is June, July, and August.

May in Bali

Mount Batur - Best time to visit Bali

May is the start of the official dry season in Bali, but you can still expect a mixed bag when it comes to the weather.

One year it could be raining all through May but the next it can be dry from as early as April.

If it does rain in May though it’s guaranteed to just be a few light showers, and this is the best time to visit before you hit the high season from June to August.

Prices will be lower in May and with the better weather, it’s a good time to start diving and snorkeling, as the water visibility clears up.

It’s getting cooler too and less humid, so a hike to the summit of Bali’s mysterious volcano, Mount Batur, can be a great activity in May, as you’ll miss the crowds and enjoy better conditions for hiking.

June in Bali

Uluwatu Temple Bali

June is the start of the high season in Bali, although it’s not quite as busy a month as July and August. The weather is likely to be perfect with temperatures averaging in the mid-twenties and humidity low.

You’ll have to be really unlucky to see even a light rain shower, so it’s a great time to hit up the beaches and make the most of the clear skies and sunshine.

Prices start to climb in June, but you’ll miss the worst of the high season which picks up towards the end of the month when the European summer holidays begin in earnest.

In June you should visit the more touristy attractions such as the famous temples in the south – Uluwatu for instance – or the increasingly popular Nusa Islands before the summer crowds make their appearance.

July in Bali

Beach in Bali, Indonesia

July is usually the busiest month to visit Bali, but for good reason, and that’s because you’ll be enjoying the best weather of the year.

But as well as enjoying sunny, clear skies and zero rain, you’ll be sharing the beaches and resorts with hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers. People flock here from Europe, America and more than anywhere else, from Australia.

Prices will be higher for flights and hotels, but if you do want to escape the crowds then head north.

This is a great time to experience a side of Bali that most miss, and by exploring the black sand beaches of Amed or the coast and jungle of Bali Barat National Park, you’ll see how the south of Bali was a few decades previously.

August in Bali

LIna Stock of Divergent Travelers Adventure Travel blog enjoying a luxury resort in Bali

Much like July, August is always super busy in Bali. The weather is again beautiful, with clear skies and sunny days, and it’s a great time for lounging on beaches and drinking cold Bintang Beers.

If you want to escape the holiday crowds though then plan a trip north, and visit the beautiful coastline in more rustic destinations such as Lovina or Amed, where tourism has only recently begun to develop.

There are great snorkeling and diving up north too, including some famous shipwrecks, and as it’s the height of the dry season the water will be beautifully clear.

September in Bali

Sunset with surfers in Kuta Bali

September can be the best time to visit Bali if you want a great mix of good weather and smaller crowds.

Things will still be busy and flights will be more expensive than the later shoulder season months. But you’ll save money compared to the true high season and have fewer people around when you explore touristy destinations such as Ubud, Kuta or the Nusa Islands.

October in Bali

Temple in Ubud Bali

October is a great shoulder season month, but the dry weather is coming to a close. There are more and more rainy days, but these can be unpredictable.

If you’re in Bali for two weeks, you’ll most likely have enough dry days to make the most of your visit.

Enjoy the south and the more traditional beach areas, get cultural in Ubud or escape to the north to see a wilder side of the island.

Bali Wet Season

Surfer in Bali

The wet season in Bali runs from November through to April, corresponding with the southern hemisphere summer and fall.

It’s tropical, and that means that while it does rain hard when it rains, showers and storms are brief but fierce.

The rainy season can be a great time to miss the crowds but give December and January a miss because these two months are still incredibly popular despite the wet weather.

November in Bali

Lina Stock of Divergent Travelers Adventure Travel blog at a luxury resort in Bali

November is when the rainy season starts in Bali, but just how much rain there will be, can vary.

You’ll have good odds of having lovely sunny days still, and it’s a great time to visit because you’ll miss the Christmas crowds who are just around the corner.

You can get wonderful deals on flights and hotels through November, and you’ll still be able to snorkel and dive before the water gets too cloudy from the rains.

It’s getting hotter, but take a trip to the summit of Mount Batur and you’ll be able to cool down after a challenging hike to the top of Bali’s iconic volcano.

December in Bali

Monkey of Monkey forest in Ubud Bali

December is usually the rainiest month of the year, and weather-wise, this really is not the best time to visit Bali.

The tourist crowds would beg to differ though because while you might get soaked, it’s also incredibly warm still.

That draws over the Christmas crowds seeking winter sun from Europe and North America , and it still brings over the Aussie crowds looking for a cheap getaway.

It’s a lively time to be in Bali, and it’s not a bad place at all to spend Christmas and New Year, but be prepared for high prices and lots of other travelers and tourists.

January in Bali

Boat on a beach in Bali

January can be just as busy as December and unfortunately, just as rainy. This is the height of the wet season, but again, it doesn’t put off the crowds.

If you do visit, then the southern beaches and classic resort areas are best avoided. Head north instead, and find a bit more peace and quiet in the lesser-visited parts of Bali.

February in Bali

Waterfall Bali

In February, the weather starts to cool down slightly and the rainy days begin to disappear, but it’s still very much the wet season.

It’s a great shoulder season month, right after the Christmas crowds go home, and you can enjoy many of Bali’s best sights with fewer people around.

Head to the waterfalls, as they will be in their element, and the jungle will be lush and green from all the rainfall over the last few months.

March in Bali

Shoulder season in Bali - Street with no travelers

March can be a wet month or it can be a dry month, the weather gods in Bali are unpredictable this time of the year.

It will be a quiet month on the tourism front though and that makes it the best time to visit Bali if you’re a fan of shoulder season travel.

The Christmas and New Year crowds are long gone, and the dry season tourists are a few months away.

You can get great deals on flights and resorts if you book in advance, and you’ll find that lots of beach areas in the south such as Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu are quieter.

This is Bali though, so if you’re here for the social aspects then there are always other travelers around to hang out with.

April in Bali

Ubud rice terraces in April

April is a great shoulder month, but be careful of the Easter Holidays in Australia or Europe, as Bali becomes a popular holiday break destination during this time of the year.

You could enjoy almost all sunny days or conversely it could also rain a lot, but that’s the gamble in April as the rainy season draws to a close.

It’s the tail end of the wet season though and Bali will be blooming, making this a great month to visit the waterfalls and the rice paddies before they start to dry out again.

Visit Ubud for cultural festivals and then hike through the rice terraces nearby.

5 days in Bali – Itinerary | Self- Drive Road Trip Tips & Tricks

August 26, 2017

Looking for an itinerary for 5 days in Bali?  We’ve covered places to visit, stay and prices for all the tourist attractions.

places to visit in bali in october

Bali has been love at first sight for me — Be it the people, changing landscape, affordability, food or culture. I can always keep finding excuses to visit this stunning place.

As you might already know I am back from Bali and unlike our last trip, this time we rented a self-drive car in Bali for just 300000 IDR ( 1450 INR ) per day and went crazy exploring offbeat places in Bali. We were in Bali for 5 days. Over the five days, we did everything we could — chasing waterfalls, stumbling upon lesser known temples, hopping from one beach to other and devouring local food. The trip was quite short but we tried to cover a lot of places in just 4 days and the last day was reserved for a bit of pampering. Since my parents were with me, so we tried to cover all the popular temples possible on our trip. You can skip temples and change your itinerary if you want to.

Without further ado let me share our itinerary. You can also read all about my last trip HERE

 ( Read:   Bali 10 Day Itinerary )

Quick Overview

Places To Stay – Seminyak, North Kuta, South Kuta, Legian, Sanur, Ubud, Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Cangu ( You can stay at one or two places and cover most of the places in Bali )

Popular Temples – Tanah Lot Temple, Uluwatu Temple, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, Pura Besakih Temple, Goa Gajah Temple

places to visit in bali in october

Popular Waterfalls – Git Git Waterfall, Tegenungan Waterfall, Nungnung Waterfall, Tukad Cepung Waterfall, Air Terjun Nungnung, Banyumala Waterfall, Sekumpul Waterfall

Check out more waterfall –  HERE

Turtle Conservation Center – At Kuta Beach  ( Baby Turtles are released every day from June to August )

Hiking – Mount Batur is an active volcano and hiking trips are quite popular.

Watersports activities  – Padang Bai Beach and Nusa Dua Beach

NightLife – Seminyak & Kuta

Near By islands for Day Trips – Gilli islands, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan

Indian Resturant –   Queen’s Resturant at Seminyak & Ubud

We landed around 11 am local time and headed straight to our villa which we had booked through Airbnb after reading a lot of reviews about the place. ( Try it! We have a  code which gives you discount on your first booking ) It was a cute little two bedroom villa at Bale Village at Kuta and was just 20 minutes from Seminyak/ Kuta Beach and one hour drive from Ubud and Uluwatu. Though we had planned to rent a self-drive car so the location of the villa worked for us. If you are looking to stay near beach or market area then you can also check some other villa on Airbnb or hotels/ resorts at Seminyak, Nusa Dua or Kuta. Our villa was in a residential area and away from all the hustle. Apart from the bathroom which was way too small rest everything about the villa was perfect. The pool was small and clean and most importantly the host was super helpful. He helped us to rent a self-drive car at a dirt cheap price at 200000 IDR without insurance and 300000 IDR with insurance. We opted for the latter. In fact, he also arranged a motorbike for us at a price of 50000 IDR ( 200-250 INR per day).

If you love driving, we highly recommend a rent a car/bike and explore Bali. Roads are awesome and chances of stumbling upon lesser known places would be high. If you do not fancy driving, you can book a taxi and cover a lot of places too.

After having a hearty lunch at Cafe Chakra near our villa, we headed to Tanah Lot temple in the evening on our very first day. We loved the unique offshore setting and the mesmerizing sunset. Pura Tanah lot is quite a popular hotspot for both tourists and locals.

Bali Itinerary 5 Days Tanah Lot Temple -

Entrance Tickets Prices per adult-

Tanah Lot Temple – 60.000 IDR

On our second day in Bali, we drove all the way to the North. We ticked off few places like Pura Ulun Danu Buyan Temple,  Pura Ulun Danu Bratan Temple , and attractions of Ubud like Pura Taman Saraswati Temple, Ubud Palace, Ubud Monkey Forest (Ps: we did not like it ) and Taman Ayun Temple .

places to visit in bali in october

And ended our day at Seminyak Beach and wolfing down Indian food at Queen’s restaurant . If you are craving for Indian food, Queen’s is one of the most popular restaurants in Bali.

Pura Taman Ayun – 20.000 IDR

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan Temple – 50.000 IDR

Pura Ulun Danu Buyan Temple – Free

Seminyak Beach – Free

On Day 3, we drove to Ubud again as we had missed out few places.

Places we visited were:  Goa Gajah Temple, Tegenungan Waterfall, Kanto Lampo Waterfall, Goa Rang Reng waterfall,  Pura Tirta Empul Temple, Tegalang Rice Terrace & Kuta Beach

places to visit in bali in october

You can take a detour and visit Pura Baseikh temple too but unfortunately, we had no time.

Our first stop was Goa Gajah Temple followed by Tegenungan Waterfall. From Tegenungan waterfall, Kanto Lampo waterfall is just a 30 min drive. It is a beautiful waterfall and there are changing rooms at the site in case you want to take a dip.

Goa Gajah Temple Bali

We also chanced upon another waterfall in Bali named Goa Rang Reng. While on our way from Kanto Lampo waterfall to Pura Tirta Empul Temple we saw a huge board with a direction to a waterfall named Goa Rang Reng . We went there on a whim and were awestruck by the sheer beauty of the place. Home to an ancient holy cave and the starting point of Cangkir River at the confluence of Bangunlemah and Betiting Rivers is considered to be a sacred place for locals.

Though the trail to the waterfall is muddy and slippery in some places, yet it is a peaceful and a relaxing spot that is hardly visited by tourists.

 Goa Rang Reng waterfall Bali

We also visited Pura Tirta Empul Temple that is famous for holy spring water and devotees come here for ritual purification. The mandatory dress code is traditional ‘kamen’ wrap around the lower body and is easily available at the entrance of the temple. On our way back from Ubud to Kuta, we visited the preened rice terrace.

We ended our day dining, shopping and lazing at Kuta Beach.

Goa Gajah Temple – 30.000 IDR

Tegalang Waterfall – 10.000 IDR

Goa Rang Reng Waterfall – 15.000 IDR

Pura Tirta Empul Temple – 30.000 IDR

Kanto Lampo Waterfall – 10.000 IDR

 Kuta Beach – Free

Parking fee at most of the places varies from 3000 IDR, 5000 IDR &  10000 IDR

If you’re temple out, then save this day for hopping from one beach to other or water sports activities.

We would advise exploring lesser-known beaches and pristine beaches of South Kuta and Uluwatu Area. Sulubun Beach, Dreamland Beach, Nyang Nyang Beach, Padang Padang beaches are out of touristy radar and boast of azure water laced with white sands. You need to climb down to most of the beaches in Uluwatu.

Other beaches which are easily accessible are Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur and Seminyak Beach.

Uluwatu Temple – 30.000 IDR Suluban Beach – 15.000 IDR

Keep your last day to get a spa done, shop, relax at a fancy resort or just chill with a sundowner.

Well, basically, do nothing 🙂

Tips & Tricks for hiring a Self-drive Car/ Bike in Bali:

You need an Indian driving license or International driving license .

Take pictures of the car or bike for damage and notify any issues before closing the deal.

Test-drive quickly to check the brakes and clutch.

Fuel is usually not included in the price. Petrol is priced around 6.500 IDR – 7.500 IDR per liter.

Refuel only at major fuel stations.

Important:  Download the offline map  because the network is quite patchy at a lot of places.

Driving Conditions – If you are used to driving on Indian roads, you won’t have any issues. But in case you are not used to driving on narrow lanes and motorbikes coming from all directions. Be a bit cautious while driving.

HAGGLING IS THE KEY TO SCORE GREAT DEALS IN BALI 😉

We booked our self-drive car from the below rental company at a price of 300.000 IDR for 24 hours with insurance coverage.  Try to haggle more if you can. 😉

Wow you guys covered a lot of ground in only 5 days! Friends have advised me against driving a car in Bali because the roads can be extremely hectic and parking can be difficult – would you recommend a scooter over a car?

Your experience looks enchanting! All of these wonderful photos make me want to book a flight and a room immediately!

Is there anything about this trip you would do differently if you had the opportunity? As someone who is interested in the Ubud Monkey Forest, can you go into detail about why you didn’t enjoy it? Was it not what you expected? I’d love to hear more on the issue.

Where was the second photo of the article taken? The one with you and the model elephants. I only ask because they look EXACTLY like the real elephants I saw at Thrissur Pooram last year. As for the article itself, you’re really able to pack a lot into 5 days! I’m hoping for a trip to Indonesia next Jan/Feb and will likely hire a car or bike to really make the most of my stay. I’ll definitely be coming back to this article for inspiration!

Best places to visit in october 2024.

Fall is here, and in many regions the leaves have changed and are ready for their close-up. While in some destinations you'll still have to contend with foliage-seeking tourists, other top getaways in October offer a bit more breathing room after the departure of summer crowds. Taking into account these factors, as well as expert opinion, traveler sentiment and array of sights (among other details), U.S. News chose the best places to visit in October. Have a favorite? Vote below to influence next year's list.

Yellowstone National Park

Zion national park, british virgin islands, serengeti national park, buenos aires, black forest, asheville, nc, acadia national park.

places to visit in bali in october

If "White Lotus" piqued your interest in a Sicilian getaway, but you don't quite have the budget to splurge, plan a trip for October when the summer tourists have gone home. At the start of the offseason, hotel rates in this Italian paradise can drop to almost half of their peak prices. You'll still be able to squeeze in some of the season's last beach days as temperatures typically remain in the 70s. What's more, the streets are likely to be less crowded, so you can easily spend your days sauntering through the region's quaint villages and sampling exquisite Mediterranean cuisine.

places to visit in bali in october

If you can handle declining temps (think: 40s and 50s), you'll be rewarded with a wonderful time of year to visit Yellowstone National Park. October sees far fewer visitors than peak summer months, which means you'll encounter less traffic and won't have to jostle for a spot at top attractions like Old Faithful and the Grand Prismatic Spring. Plus, you might catch the tail end of elk rutting season and hear their otherworldly bugling. This national park's roads close for the season in November, but keep in mind that some lodging options close earlier, so book your accommodations early.

places to visit in bali in october

Pleasant weather, more manageable crowds and fall foliage – what's not to love about Zion National Park in October? Daytime temperatures in the 70s will keep you comfortable for activities like hiking and rock climbing, but pack layers and prepare for cooler temperatures in sunless hiking spots like the Narrows. What's more, leaf peepers won't want to miss taking the Canyon Overlook trail to catch a glimpse of the autumn colors. While fewer travelers tend to visit this national park in October than the summer months, you'll want to avoid peak times like fall break.

places to visit in bali in october

Beat the winter holiday rush with an autumn trip to the British Virgin Islands. Though October falls in the middle of the rainy season, this typically means brief squalls rather than days full of rain, and low season travel will mean fewer tourists and great rates on accommodations. The Moorings Interline Regatta also takes place in October, delighting sailors and landlubbers alike with its exhilarating sailboat races and nightly parties. However, these great rewards do come with a bit of risk, as well. Since this island lies in the hurricane belt, you may want to consider travel insurance for a fall trip here.

places to visit in bali in october

Summer is undoubtedly the most popular time to visit Iceland's capital, so an October visit will give you access to top sights sans crowds. Take in the city's quirky architecture like Hallgrímskirkja and the Harpa concert hall on a free walking tour before grabbing a craft beer or a bowl of fiskisúpa (fish soup). Temperatures may hover in the 40s, but the area's hot springs and geothermal pools will warm you right up. Plus, as a trade-off for shorter days and cooler weather, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the northern lights this time of year.

places to visit in bali in october

October falls within the Southern Hemisphere's spring season, so expect to enjoy long, sunny days and beautiful blooming jacarandas during an October visit to Sydney. Average daytime temperatures rest in the 70s this time of year, meaning you can comfortably check out Sydney Harbour's most famous landmark , the Sydney Opera House, and tour the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. This is also a perfect time to stroll along the coastal walk between the iconic Bondi and Coogee beaches. What's more, October is when two of Sydney's most popular events – the Night Noodle Markets and Sculpture by the Sea – occur.

places to visit in bali in october

Serengeti National Park's wildlife-viewing opportunities are incomparable, and visiting in October at the end of its dry season offers certain benefits. October is one of the Tanzanian park's warmest months, with average temperatures sitting in the low 80s. And while you might encounter a few short rain showers toward the end of the month, October is generally still quite dry, meaning you'll find fewer mosquitos and sparse vegetation – which makes it easier to spot animals – during game drives.
