Why Katy Perry’s ‘Prism’ Era Is More Impressive Than You Think

Katy Perry's 'Prism' Era Is More Impressive Than You Think: Here's Why | Billboard

Are we appreciating Katy Perry enough?

That’s a strange question to ask in January 2015, when Katy Perry is a massive pop star, one who’s once again Grammy-nominated and selling out arenas. She’s about to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, the biggest musical platform in the world. She is everywhere, and that ubiquity doesn’t always equate to admiration. But the success of her latest album, Prism , begs to be respected, even by those who have never and will never consider themselves KatyCats.

Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' Breaks Modern-Era Single-Week Vinyl Sales Record

We’re nearing the end of Perry’s run promoting her third Capitol Records album, Prism , which was released in October 2013: following the Super Bowl halftime show performance on Feb. 1, Perry will perform the final leg of her Prismatic tour in Europe, wrapping up her latest trek on March 22. There may be another single from the album, or fifth single “This Is How We Do,” which entered the Top 40 way back in early September, but it’s more likely that Perry is playing out the string with Prism and is ready to finish this chapter after an 18-month-long promo cycle. Prism will be remembered for generating precisely two smash hits, “Roar” and “Dark Horse,” yet in a lot of ways, Perry’s latest run has been just as impressive as the record-setting lap she took with her sophomore album, 2010’s Teenage Dream . In some ways, she’s even surpassed that towering mark.

Teenage Dream is famous for becoming the first album since Michael Jackson ‘s 1987 full-length Bad to score five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart ; no album other than those two has ever earned that honor. Following the success of singles like “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” from her 2008 debut One of the Boys , Perry unleashed 2010’s song of the summer with “California Gurls,” then hit more home runs with the buttery “Teenage Dream,” inspirational “Firework,” glitchy “E.T.” and bubblegum “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” It was an unbelievable run that earned Perry an album of the year Grammy nomination; spawned a (sneaky-great) documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me ; warranted a deluxe edition that produced two more hits, “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake”; and, for all intents and purposes, turned Perry into a superstar.

Looking at Top 40 Radio’s Decade of Change, Through the Lens of Kelly Clarkson’s Career

So how did Perry top that commercial run? She didn’t. No one could have. Again, Teenage Dream is only the second album ever to produce five No. 1 Hot 100 singles; it’s essentially a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. With that in mind, Prism has come a lot closer to duplicating that success than Katy (or anybody) could have hoped for.

Consider the chart performance of Prism ‘s five singles:

“Roar”: No. 1 peak (two weeks) “Unconditionally”: No. 14 peak “Dark Horse”: No. 1 peak (four weeks) “Birthday”: No. 17 peak “This Is How We Do”: No. 24 peak

There were a total of four top 20 hits, and two chart-toppers: “Roar,” the empowering lead single, and “Dark Horse,” the oddball trap-pop anthem. In between, the austere ballad “Unconditionally” peaked at No. 14, the bouncy dance track “Birthday” topped at No. 17, and “This Is How We Do” reached No. 24 on the chart last fall. The latter became Perry’s first proper single in nearly five years to miss the top 20 of the Hot 100 chart (the promotional single “Walking On Air” also charted at No. 34 on the Hot 100, but was never officially released to radio).

So, Prism didn’t dominate the pop universe quite like Teenage Dream did — but is it really fair to compare the career-defining blockbuster with its follow-up? Since the chart run of Teenage Dream has long been contrasted with that of Jackson’s Bad album, let’s equate Prism with MJ’s Bad follow-up, 1991’s Dangerous . As covered by Billboard chart whiz Gary Trust in October 2013, here’s how Jackson’s Dangerous singles performed on the Hot 100:

“Black or White”: No. 1 peak (seven weeks) “Remember the Time”: No. 3 peak “In the Closet”: No. 6 peak “Jam”: No. 26 peak “Heal the World”: No. 27 peak “Who Is It”: No. 14 peak “Will You Be There”: No. 7 peak

It’s a  startlingly similar run to that of Perry’s latest album: seven total weeks at No. 1 for Dangerous singles compared to six for Prism , a handful of solid but by no means defining hits (“In the Closet” is Jackson’s career equivalent to Perry’s “Birthday,” “Will You Be There” his “Unconditionally”), and a couple relative misfires that couldn’t crack the top 20. It’s mind-boggling to consider that Perry has followed Michael Jackson’s commercial trajectory on multiple albums now — on the commanding Teenage Dream , and then the huge-if-not-quite-enormous success of Prism .

As Gary also noted , Prism tweaked Perry’s radio-friendly sound less than Jackson’s Dangerous , which leapt from Bad into a multitude of daring new formats. On the other hand, Perry scored her biggest hit from Prism with “Dark Horse,” one of her musically weirdest songs to date and a Juicy J collaboration that wasn’t initially planned as a single. The song spent 57 weeks on the Hot 100 chart, a number only 22 songs in the chart’s history have reached; meanwhile, the music video for “Dark Horse” is now Perry’s most-viewed video ever on YouTube , surpassing “Firework,” which won the video of the year trophy at the 2011 MTV VMAs, by nearly 250 million views. “Firework” has sold 6.8 million downloads compared to 5.8 million for “Dark Horse,” according to Nielsen Music, but the fact that “Dark Horse” has come within spitting distance of the biggest-selling single from Teenage Dream should count as a clear win for Team Perry.

For Capitol Records, it was all about setting the proper expectations with Prism — if one accepts the fact that it was never going to topple the success of Teenage Dream , it’s easier to feel victorious about getting somewhat close to the numbers of that album. “We didn’t think that we could repeat Teenage Dream , but that’s like saying, ‘I’m gonna go paint another Picasso,” says Greg Thompson, EVP of Capitol Music Group, of Prism . “The interesting thing is if you look at Prism compared to Teenage Dream after each album’s first year, Prism was very much in line with the sales of Teenage Dream [1.5 million vs. 1.7 million in each title’s first 52 weeks, according to Nielsen Music]. Taking into consideration that the market is down and yet Prism sold essentially as well as Teenage Dream in that span says something about the evolution of Katy as an artist and her abilities to sell albums.”

The sales-to-date gap between the two albums is a bit wider: 1.6 million sold for Prism compared to 2.9 million for Teenage Dream , according to Nielsen Music. Album sales are falling across the board, of course, and, as Thompson noted, Prism is about to receive its biggest television plug yet at the Super Bowl. Last year, Bruno Mars ‘ album sales soared following his halftime performance , with his most recent album, Unorthodox Jukebox , scoring a 92 percent uptick in the week following the Super Bowl show.

And from a strictly monetary standpoint, Perry’s current arena tour is massively outperforming her previous one. According to Billboard Boxscore, 105 dates of the Prismatic tour have grossed $146 million, with 1.37 million KatyCats in attendance. Compare that to 105 dates of the California Dreams tour, Perry’s international run supporting Teenage Dream , which grossed $52 million and had an attendance of 1.08 million. Granted, that gross is inflated thanks to heftier ticket prices … but whatever the means were for securing that sum, that extra $94 million more than makes up for the difference in album sales between Teenage Dream and Prism .

In a half-century, I’m unlikely to plop my grandchild on my knee and say in an old-timey voice, “I remember when Katy Perry’s Prism was the talk of the town!” Prism is not an epochal pop release, especially when one remembers the claims of cultural appropriation, the hammy “Birthday” video and the regretful RiFF RaFF remix that were included in its promotional cycle. But that’s the point: even a flawed Katy Perry release has been bulldozing, another comfortable victory to follow a blowout win. Perry has once again slapped commercial stratospheres that other artists would kill to graze, and when she takes the Super Bowl stage next month, she’ll have plenty of reasons to roar.

PrismHR LIVE 2023: What’s Happening in Austin?

prism tour 2023

By James Tehrani

In an arpeggio, a chord is played note by note rather than in one fell swoop. Think Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, Adele’s Someone Like You or Coldplay’s Clocks . In many ways an arpeggio can also be seen as a metaphor for a well-executed conference where each session/event becomes part of a larger overall theme.

That’s PrismHR LIVE since we’re #RaisingtheBar with this year’s theme, and striking the right chord in the process.

PrismHR LIVE 2023

PrismHR LIVE takes place at the  JW Marriott Austin , which is a two-minute walk from the Colorado River and a 25-minute walk from the famed  Franklin Barbecue  restaurant, which you won’t want to miss. People line up nice and early to get that good eatin’ before the grub is gone for the day. We’re told it’s definitely worth the wait.

And if you just want to relax before the conference starts, the JW Marriott Austin offers plenty of places to gather, grab a bite or cocktail, relax and have fun.

And while there’s plenty to learn from the hands-on workshops, keynotes, networking and spotlight sessions planned at PrismHR LIVE, there’s a whole lot of fun, too.

To get you ready for a great conference, PrismHR has planned a welcome reception for Sunday night from 6-8 p.m. While we’re raising the bar, you can be heading to the bar to enjoy drinks and light fare as you catch up with old friends and make new ones as well. Of course, there will be some fun interactive activities and giveaways from our partners planned as well. Stay tuned!

And the fun will have just begun.

On Monday night, after a day of learning, we know you’ll have a big appetite for supper. That’s why we are headed to Banger’s for some BBQ goodness. Sponsored by our friends at ZayZoon , this evening is sure to be a hit that we are really jazzed about.

The beat goes on …

If you joined us in San Diego last year or other previous LIVEs, you know the last night of the conference is a huge party. So why should this year be any exception? With food, drink and maybe a little dancin’ and/or chillin’ here and there, this terrace party cannot be beat.

Other Things to Do in Austin

Since 1991, Austin, Texas, has been known as the Live Music Capital of the World , so it’s natural that PrismHR LIVE will take place there June 25-27—and we’re ready to rock.

Over the years, music icons, such as Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Clark Jr., Selena Quintanilla-Peréz and, of course, Willie Nelson, have jammed in Austin. So this town is quite familiar with having a rockin’-good time.

And rolling into Austin is always a lot of fun.

Whether it’s sampling some of the local delicacies from the restaurant scene , exploring the local museums near the conference hotel or sampling the lively Austin nightlife , there’s something for everyone. On the museum front, there’s the Mexic-Arte Museum, which is one of the few Latin art museums in the United States showcasing Mexican and Latino art; the Bullock Texas State History Museum, which tells the history of the Lone Star State; and the Museum of the Weird, which, weirdly enough, needs no explanation.

Before PrismHR LIVE officially begins on Sunday, June 25, or after it ends on June 27, perhaps you’ll want to take in the many scenic outdoor activities that make Austin so special. There are several natural pools and swimming holes, including Barton Springs Pool, which maintains an average temperature of 68 to 70 degrees year round, and has two waterfalls along its path, Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls.

So who’s ready to dive in?

Ready to join us in Austin? We thought so. Register today ; we’ll make sure everything is in tune note for note! But hurry, the “clock” is ticking.

Aidonia To Make “Frsh Drop” In the U.S This Summer on Five-City Tour

Shadow

Dancehall artiste  Aidonia , who recently returned to the local music scene, has announced that he will embark on a five-city tour in the United States this summer.

The revelation was made on Tuesday via social media. Dubbed “ Frsh Drop Tour 2023 “, the exploits will see the 4th Genna head honcho making several stops throughout the U.S. eastern seaboard, with his first assignment on June 11th at the New York edition of Sandz Festival. Other stops along the tour include Connecticut on July 29th, Atlanta on August 12th, the DMV on the 13th and culminating on September 16th in Miami, Florida.

Fans of the entertainer reacted positively to the news, with some even querying about additional dates and locations.

Frsh Drop Tour 2023 will mark the first time in over three years since Aidonia has performed live in the U.S. due to the pandemic and other travel impediments.

On a more sombre note, last Sunday, the deejay bid farewell to his long-time friend and senior security detail  Calis Carlington Bowen,  more popularly known as  “Bigga 5.”

Bigga 5  died last month of undisclosed health complications and was laid to rest at the Kings S.D.A Church in Mount Salem, St. James, with interment at the Dovecot Memorial Park, Orange District, St. James.

His sudden passing plunged the camp and segments of the entertainment fraternity into mourning, with many still in disbelief. Known for his cheerful persona, Bigga 5 will be sincerely missed by those whose lives he impacted.

Katy Perry is a singer-songwriter from California, USA. Exposed to gospel music throughout her childhood and teens, Katy Perry was originally a gospel artist recording under the name Katy Hudson before moving to pop and gaining mainstream popularity in 2008.

Despite beginning her music career in 2000, Katy Perry struggled to find a clear direction and style for her musical talents. Beginning in gospel, the lack of success her debut album, “Katy Hudson”, attracted found the singer moving over to secular music. Here she began to develop her style and song-writing abilities. Katy was signed and dropped from multiple record deals between 2003 and 2007, with many executives recognizing her talent and potential but failing to provide her with material and collaborators that would allow this talent to shine.

Finally, in 2007 Katy Perry was signed to Capitol Music Group where she began working with producer Dr. Luke, who co-wrote the songs “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot n Cold”. “I Kissed a Girl” was a massive breakthrough hit for Katy Perry reaching the number one spot in the US, UK, Australian, Austrian, Canadian, German, Irish, Dutch, New Zealand and Swiss music charts. “Hot n Cold” was also a top 5 single in each of these countries, causing Katy Perry’s second album “One Of the Boys” to secure a top 10 placement in the US charts.

After the success of her first pop album, Katy Perry managed to surpass this with her second pop album, “Teenage Dream”. The album won her a Guinness World Record for being the first female artist in the world to achieve five number one hits from the same album on the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, the only other artist to have achieved this feat before her was Michael Jackson with his 1987 album “Bad”.

In addition to this award, Katy Perry has been nominated for an incredible eleven Grammy Awards across her three pop albums, and has won multiple MTV VMA awards and People’s Choice Awards.

Katy Perry cites Queen singer Freddie Mercury as her biggest influence. After hearing the song “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Katy Perry was inspired to make music, and her flamboyant outfits and image suggest that Mercury was an influence both musically and visually.

Katy Perry’s 2014 album “Prism” hit the number one spot in the US and UK album charts and shows a slightly darker edge to her musical ability. The album demonstrates Katy Perry’s musical range and willingness to experiment. Katy Perry’s immense talent and theatrical world tours have won her a legion of loyal fans across the globe. Her hard work is evident in the music she produces and her success speaks for itself.

Live reviews

I took my daughter to see Katy Perry for her 9th birthday; we went with my friend Laura and her 9 year old daughter. We had nosebleed seats at the Verizon Center, but I still felt we saw everything clearly, so I didn't mind. (Verizon center hold 18,000 people - it's an indoor stadium in the heart of DC.) We arrived at 7:10 and the first opener was already going strong: Ferras, who I have since learned is a Jordanian singer-songwriter based in LA and the first to sign onto Katy Perry's new label. He was a little to boy band/R&B-sounding for my taste, but he did have stage presence. He spent most of his time behind keyboards, so he didn't move around much on the huge stage, but he did have a pink neon sign of his name behind him. I give him a "meh". Capital Cities went on at 8 pm. I had previewed more of their music before attending this show, and it turns out I like a few of their songs, not just the famous one "Safe and Sound". Capital Cities is technically a duo from LA, but they brought a few other musicians on the tour with them. The trumpeter really stood out on stage, and I liked the band's neon jackets with the reflective stripes as costumes. They were better about using the whole stage than Ferras. They walked the catwalk sometimes and had a dance-party to a remix of Safe and Sound as their exit song where the band just danced and ran around like maniacs. It was adorable, and smart reinforcement of their hit single. (They also played the original version in the middle of the set.) The band was also savvy enough to remember to tell the crowd their name, unlike Ferras. (That is my #1 pet peeve with openers - it's marketing 101, musicians!) Katy Perry went on right at 9 pm and was coming back for an encore at 11:15 when we left. I almost never see shows with 2 hour sets, so that was a bit of a shock to me, but honestly, she kept our attention the entire time. All the rumors I'd heard about her amazing stage shows were 100% true. She brought it. Elaborate video backdrops, huge props that came up through trapdoors in the floor of the stage, a giant V shaped runway with general admission standing room in the middle, conveyor belts as part of that runway, amazing laser lights (better light design than I've ever seen at an show), acrobats, amazing dancers, lots of costume changes - you name it, she did it. By the end of it, I could see why someone would shell out $175 for a floor seat to this show. (And a lot more for VIP "experiences" like meet and greets.) Prismatic - glow tube costumes, gemstone background, best glitter effect ever from laser lights, arrived through floor that opened like gem facets, umbrellas and glowing spears Roar Part of Me Wide Awake This Moment / Love Me

Egyptian - rode an oversized gold puppet horse, hunks in chest straps, a rapper as the sphinx in a cartoon video, twisty platform rose high in the air with Katy on it. Dark Horse E.T. Legendary Lovers I Kissed a Girl Cat-Oure - a long, funny kitty meme cartoon video for set change (does she EVER know her audience!), cat costumes, reference to "Katy Kats" fan club, cat couture runway show to Vogue, oversized cat scratching posts with carpet perches Hot N Cold International Smile (Contains elements of 'Vogue' by Madonna) Acoustic - sunflower set, fairy princess costume, selfie photo, gave a pizza to a kid, talked to all the kids in the audience in a way that connected well By the Grace of God The One That Got Away / Thinking of You Unconditionally Throwback - harness flying, silk over the audience pit, cloud effects, platform and crazy 1-story-high bell skirt yin-yang dress, giant puppet butterflies. Walking on Air It Takes Two This Is How We Do / Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) Hyper Heon - neon 80s clothes, neon floating parade float balloons in audience (including Cover Girl marketing tie-in lipstick), inflatable full sized pink convertible that dancers rode in, moving neon letters that spelled out various words, Katy wore a bra made of 2 big smiley faces with a third big one on her butt Teenage Dream California Gurls Birthday

Katy Perry's Prismatic Tour is a zany, colorful world of wonder from her opening number of "Roar" to an encore filled with pyrotechnics and an audience jumping up and down screaming for more. I must say that I was impressed with Katy's live vocals, they were much more impressive than I was expecting. She does a full 2 hour set of all of her hits and a few favorites from her new album, Prism. That's right, I said 2 hours!! And that didn't include support from her opening acts, Ferras and Capital Cities, both of which had you up and dancing before Katy's grand arrival. This is show is camper than any drag show I've ever seen. This girl loves a theme and commits. She opened the show with the Prismatic set with a Greecian warrior vibe and light up costumes. She then transported the audience to Egypt where she arrived on a moving horse. Dancers were dressed as pharohs, black spiders and bootylicious mummies! After yet another costume change, Katy appeared on a giant ball of yarn in a hot pink cat suit singing a cabaret style version of "Hot N Cold" for her Cat-Oure section, transitioning into "International Smile" which even featured a Kitty fashion runway to Madonna's "Vogue." Things were then slowed down for an acoustic set in Katy's magical garden with sunflowers and giant floating butterflies. Next was my personal favorite, Throwback, which was a full-fledged 90's dance party. Smiley faces, ying-yang signs and bicycle shorts were in abundance. This set was already crazy fun and then they filled the stadium with giant emoji balloons including a taco and a smiling poo. Katy closed the show in Hyper Neon with some of her biggest hits and returned to stage for an encore of "Firework." If you're in need of a smile, this show is a sure fire ticket! Both Katy Perry and her show are wonderfully light-hearted and full of love. If you don't have a sense of humor, this show might not be for you. I think my only note would be to be prepared for heards of young tween girls. I know, I know it's Katy Perry not U2, but sometimes I forget that I'm 28 year old trapped in a 13 year old's body.

Katy Perry wowwed us here in Toon Town. I caught her previous tour with Janelle Monae and thought that it would be impossible to top. WRONG! She brought 2 warm up acts - each doing about 45-50 minute sets.. (Unforuntately I missed the first one but Kacey Musgraves was great. She had a harder country rock sound that worked and she used all of the stage and the audience joined in on a few of her tunes.) Then came the Prismatic Tour. Like last time Katy had a theme - angles edges and reflections (Katy in Wonderland last time.) The stage and runway was in the form of diamond and the back screen was a segmented pyramid. Compared to the previous tour it looked a bit sparse and toned down. Ooops! There's actually more hidden site which involved treadmills, lifts and it ended up being more elaborate than last time. Her 2 hour plus performance included songs from all three albums but many with a new spin - Broadway musical treatment and one almost throwback to the torch song era on one of her biggest hits. A lot was going on but the stage wasn't too busy for the eye. There was very creative use of costumes, props, video and lasers and you must make sure you stay for Prism vision. (Some people left because they thought the show was over.) Katy was her usual funny, honest and warm self and there was a precious moment when she had a picture taken with a 5 year-old look-a-like (no cell phone for a selfie.) Katy loves her fans and it showed. I think she really loved our little "Town" too and that added to her performance. (She was here for the Warped Tour 7 years ago and she said it's been too long.) Her show is a fun experience with lots of surprizes (I won't give anymore spoilers) and she is definitely one to catch. Her show has appeal to beyond her fans and this tour confirmed to me that she is one of those performers you must see each time she is near - you may not like the music but you have to experience it at least once. (Kiss falls into this category as do the Stones, Cher and such.)

To say right now that watching Katy Perry live is a total MUST is, actually, quite an understatement. Just a look at her current tour sales will tell you that almost no one wants to miss her latest live production. But watching Katy Perry live is more than just a show, it's more of a lovely memory you will share with friends you didn't know you had.

Katy Perry is one of those artists who fully commits herself to bring her fans an experience that displays cutting edge production while keeping a deeply intimate vibe. There's little chance you'll see her outside the local major arena these days, and still she always makes it feel like a tiny place and like every song is been sung directly to you. No, that does not have anything to do with me watching her on the stage fence everytime. It has to do with how she gets involved with every aspect of the show, as opposed to just focusing on performing, making it all even more personal. On every tour, she plays the full new album, while incorporating the fan favorite songs in a nicely balanced set, always full of awesome custome changes and stage surprises. Her long-time live band and dance crew are always a powerhouse by themselves and just add to the whole experience. The songs live always have enhanced arrangements which prove her musicianship while shocking many naysayers.

The first time she took her full tour to Mexico, was with the California Dreams Tour in 2011, with her first stop in Guadalajara. Eager to see her perform that perfect album live more than once I hopped on an overnight bus and made the trip by myself. The joy in the air that night, the perfection of the set, and the overall happiness in everyone's face throughout the show, allowed me to make new friends with whom I'm now making travel arrangements to see the 4 nights in Mexico of her new Prismatic World Tour. Only god knows what this tour has in store for me...

From aztec warriors to Katy cats chasing down an evil rat, the Katy perry concert was outstanding. Despite the loads of hatred towards the newly 30 pop star, Perry came out with a bang and put on a show that will be remembered for a lifetime. With Katy's set list covering her original hits such as "I Kissed A Girl" to her new hits like "Roar," Katy rocked the nearly packed Prudential Center. After her first few numbers that featured dancers and lights galore, Katy proceeded to chage throughout the show into her countless eclectic outfits. By far the acrobatic tricks and light performances combined with her beautiful voice and unique stage, Katy truly set herself apart from every other performer. With areas of the stage moving up and down, in circles, and across the stage, Perry was allowed to perform in every inch of the concert venue. Despite some technical difficulties in the beginning of the concert, Perry was able to recover extremely well and maintain her positive and cheerful view on life and uplift the audience. What sets Katy's concert apart from others was her powerful connection with the audience, giving the audience the feeling that she truly cared about and loved each and every single one of her fans. From taking selfies with members of the audience to giving one lucky girl an entire pizza, Katy's sweet and genuine personality was shown by these unique experiences with her biggest fans. With "Birthday" finally featuring more flying tricks, a volunteer from the audience, confetti, and a ginormous birthday cake, the concert was ended just as extravagantly as it began. I would strongly recommend anyone who enjoys her music and enjoys having a great time to go see Katy Perry in concert. She truly does know how to perform!

I don't believe, in my 32 years on this planet, that I have ever looked forward to a concert as much as I did this Katy Perry venture. (Which is saying A LOT considering how many amazing concerts I've been to.) ...and what a concert it was. Katy DID NOT disappoint. If you are a fan of Katy Perry...if you are a fan of fantastical pop music...if you are a fan of dancing your a** off without fear of some bloke grinding your back pockets off - GO SEE KATY. 2+ Hours of pure, unadulterated pop bliss. Booming beats, live soaring vocals, prismatic colors, and tons of cute, well-coiffed, well-choreographed dancers. I can't gush enough about the Prismatic experience. I dare say Katy is holding tight to the crown of Pop music right now, and it is reflected by the obviously large budget she had to work with when designing her show.

Seriously, though, she covered tracks from all three of her albums. She did take what I consider to have been a well-deserved breather in the middle of the show with a stripped down acoustic segment before she ramped right back up into confetti and cotton candy mayhem. She had a great rapport with her audience and seemed to be genuinely appreciative of us, and the life she's been given.

GO. Unless you're an anti-pop stooge, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

The concert was a disappointment.

Having purposely flown over to singapore to see her, leaving my toddler and baby behind with my parents in the hotel, we were expecting an entertaining performance based on reviews on her tour. However, It has proven otherwise.

Felt that her effort wasn't there and that there's not much stage presence. Keeps disappearing behind stage for her attire etc.. We don't get to see her enough on stage. She didn't really captivate the crowd and seems like she's only doing the concert for the sake of doing it only. The singing was pre-recorded at some parts - dancing was not energetic.

The part where a fan was invited to stage was pretty interesting. That made everyone smiled. Wish she could have done more like that - connect with the crowd with her singing. Thought the prismatic effect was very cool. Aside from that, this is by far the most boring concert we've been to :(

Wow! just wow! Katy Perry you know how to start and end a show! the thing I will definetly take away the most from this concert is when she spoke to us. not just through words. but singing as well. each costume she changed into represented something different. the way she acted on stage was like it was just you and her for two hours. well she actually said that. haha. my favorite part of the concert was well... let me think!... oh wait! I got it!..... EVERYTHING!!! I loved everything about the show! what's not to love. I mean you're at a Katy Perry concert where you can rock out, dress up, even die your hair different colors and no one can judge you. Because as Katy said last night at the concert, a Kitty Kat is a very real person, who loves life - and those people, the Kitty Kat's, are us. the fans. so thanks Katy Perry for putting on a show I'll never forget! :)

Two words: SO AWESOME. The lights, the outfits, the love. She came on stage with a sparkly red outfit and came out of an eyeball. She sang some songs in the outfit like Chained to the rhythm and Dark Horse. Then she sang a lot of throwback songs all at once, she sang hot n cold (with a bra that changed from hot to cold) , California Gurls, Last Friday night, E.T, teenage dream, and I kissed a girl. Then she got a huge almost desert setup, I even think there was a stripper pole for Bom appetit. Then she was flying on a planet while in a sparkly white outfit. She sang wide awake, power, thinking of you, and she invited a fan onstage. It was cute. Then she got in a blue outfit and sang Swish Swish, hey hey hey, and roar. Then she went off stage. Then came back for the encore, which was a slower version of Firework. Definitely recommend seeing her live.

I saw Katy in concert for the Witness world tour for my birthday. It would be a lie to say I wasn’t completely blow away. I’ve been a fan since 2014 but fell out of interest for a little while. After seeing Witness in concert though I was immediately hooked on again.

Katy keeps your attention and makes your experience about more than music. She makes even people who aren’t fans have a great time and enjoy themselves. My cousin went with me and doesn’t even like Katy yet she was dancing and singing along.

It was a rewarding experience and definitely worth your money! From the lights, to the music, to the stage, to the effects, to dancers, to just Katy herself everything was on point.

Over all I can’t wait to seeing her again!

2024 RBC Heritage purse, prize money: Payout for Scottie Scheffler, golfers from $20M signature event pool

Another signature event means another big winner's check was up for grabs in south carolina.

rbc-heritage-trophy-2023-g.png

Another week, another monstrous purse on the PGA Tour (taken home by Scottie Scheffler). The first signature event to be played following the 2024 Masters took place in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with the RBC Heritage hosting the best golfers on Tour -- and the best golfer in the world came out on top once again

With $20 million on the line in totality, Scottie Scheffler won for the fourth time in his last five starts , cashing a cool $3.6 million winner's share.

There was not a cut in place this week, so everyone in the field was guaranteed at least $41,000 no matter how many crooked numbers they posted. This is the new way of life for Tour pros as this is one of eight big-money signature events, only three of which have a cut.

Your first four winners from signature events this season ...

  • The Sentry: Chris Kirk ($3.6 million)
  • Pebble Beach Pro Am: Wyndham Clark ($3.6 million)
  • Genesis Invitational: Hideki Matsuyama ($4 million)
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational: Scottie Scheffler ($4 million)
  • RBC Heritage: Scottie Scheffler ($3.6 million)

Scheffler has now won $16.25 million over his last five starts, including $3.6 million for taking the 2024 Masters, $4.5 million for winning The Players Championship and $554,000 for finishing second at the Houston Open.

The Wells Fargo Championship, Memorial and Travelers Championship will round out the eight signature events for 2024. Only the Memorial will have a cut. Add it all up, and there is nearly $200 million at stake between those eight tournaments plus The Players Championship, which Scheffler won in early March.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 2024 RBC Heritage for the 69 players who are playing this event.

Luis Miguel tour 2023: where to see him in concert

L uis Miguel fans in the Borderland might be excited to hear the Sol de Mexico has announced a tour for 2023. Only thing is, he doesn't appear to be coming to El Paso.

The Mexican crooner announced the dates for his 43-date tour on April 19. The singer's tour doesn't have El Paso on the schedule but does have other Texas cities.

This will be his first tour since "México Por Siempre," which ran from 2018 to 2019. That year, he did perform in El Paso.

His new tour will kick off Aug. 3 in Argentina, take him to Chile in late August and then come to the United States before finishing with dates in December in Mexico.

Tickets are not yet on sale. But here are the closest cities where El Paso fans might want to travel to see Luis Miguel.

Oct. 29: Dallas

Nov. 2: Houston

Nov. 4: San Antonio

Nov. 5: Austin

More: Upcoming El Paso concerts in 2023 include Ricardo Arjona, Incubus with Paris Jackson, Fuerza Regida

Luis Miguel is one of Mexico's biggest stars with 16 No. 1 songs on Billboard's Top Latin Albums list and nine leaders on the Top Latin Albums tally, according to Billboard.com. In 2017, he released "México Por Siempre!" ‒ which won album of the year at the Latin Grammy Awards.

Loyal fans have missed him on the stage but have enjoyed learning more about his life in "Luis Miguel: The Series" on Netflix.
