Fusing improvisational comedy with his incredible musical talents, Reggie Watts (born March 23rd, 1972) has found fame, both as a standup comedian and musician, following his debut release in 2003.
Born in Germany but raised in Great Falls, Montana, US, Watts grew up with an insatiable appetite for entertaining. At the age of 18, he moved to Seattle to pursue an education in jazz, attending the Cornish College of the Arts. Whilst there, Watts became involved with a number of local outfits, playing keyboards for Wayne Horvitz' 4+1 Ensemble and providing lead vocals for the groove-laden Maktub.
Watts began to perform solo in 2002, initially using looping pedals and delay effects in order to use his voice as the sole instrument. With a penchant for improvisational comedy, Watts began to incorporate these aspects into his show. However, his 2003 debut, "Simplified," was still a serious musical effort, creating an innovative, neo-soul record.
A move to Brooklyn, New York, US, brought Watts into contact with comedians Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale, who invited Watts to perform in their experimental variety show, "Invite Them Up." For his original standup show, Watts was awarded with the Andy Kaufmann Award in 2006, praising his unique approach, which utilized beatboxing, rapping and his impressive vocal talents, interspersed with his smatterings of comedy.
Watts managed huge crossover appeal, finding music fans and comedy critics to be in appreciation of his work, with even Brian Eno inviting Watts to play at his Luminous Festival, at the Sydney Opera House, Australia, in 2010. After several appearances on Comedy Central, as well as Saturday Night Live, Watts saw the release of his CD/DVD "Why $#!+ So Crazy" that same year, which captured his live special on Comedy Central.
More live specials followed, most notably "A Live in Central Park" in 2012, which was also released on CD/DVD. Watts also began starring in the IFC series, "Comedy Bang! Bang!" in 2012, continuing to do so until he was offered the job of leading "The Late Late Show's" band in 2015.
Live reviews
Reggie Watts is probably one of the most unique and talented performers currently touring today. He blends comedy, both verbal and physical, with singing, rapping and beatboxing so seamlessly that it makes complete sense but it’s unlikely that anyone else could pull it off. The man himself just oozes funny. He walks out on stage with his huge fro, beard, and generally dressed in some kind of ridiculous sweater that often has some kind of animal on it. But then he starts his show and you realize you will definitely get your moneys worth. Interweaving observational stand-up comedy with musical breaks, he even goes on tangents in other languages like Spanish and French. And not only is he funny, but the guy can also sing. He uses a loop pedal to build beats and tunes on top of one another, using just his vocal chords and then he sings soulfully on top of them. The lyrics are typically nonsense or completely improvised but his vocal range is impressive. The great thing about a Reggie Watts show is that you will never be bored and you will also never see the exact same show twice, no matter how many times you see him.

Got there at 8:30 expecting the show to start at 9pm as advertized. It seemed they were having technical difficulties that they weren't able to resolve by 11pm.. on a Tuesday. My friends and I decided to leave at that point as we all have typical, weekday jobs and mommy and daddy aren't paying our rent. Pretty disappointed I didn't get to see the show and that they don't offer refunds. It doesn't seem unreasonable to think they could have done the soundcheck before they opened the doors to the public. Maybe if I was still in my early 20's and didn't care about sleep or my job, I would have stuck around, but we can't all be that lucky.
was a very political performance being the day after the election, he sung about may and a really catchy one with the hook of "hung parliament" ahaha, the real highlight was half way through when he brought Thundercat out - they jammed for like 10 mins i swear. was magic
Show was awesome/.
Line up was ridiculous - went all the way around a city block and all the way down an alleyway.
Reggie delivered the goods though - my 4th time seeing him and he's always hilarious.

Unforgettable time travel
If you know Reggie, then you know he takes you on a fantastic voyage with his words and music. This was a night to remember.
Brilliant and hilarious!
Reggie Watts never ceases to amaze. His humor is intelligent, witty, unique, and his improv is the best.
Reggie Watts is one of the most talented artists alive! This show was a mind-blowing mix of comedy and music - and lots of old-Seattle banter. The amount of material this man has, the number of characters, voices, accents, genres he spans... So lucky I got to see him live!
Always Funny and Oh the Music he makes!
Reggie Watts is SUCH an incredibly talented guy. I could listen to him creating his music all day.

Nation of Language Announce 2023 Tour Dates, Share “Sole Obsession”: Stream
The post Nation of Language Announce 2023 Tour Dates, Share “Sole Obsession”: Stream appeared first on Consequence .
Nation of Language are entering a new era that begins with a 2023 tour and a new single, “Sole Obsession.”
In addition to appearances at Primavera Sound, Outside Lands, and Day In Day Out, the Brooklyn band has a slew of new North American headlining dates that begin in August. The run starts August 12th in Portland and includes stops in Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Austin, and Nashville before wrapping up in Toronto on December 2nd. Gustaf, Reggie Watts, and Miss Grit provide support at select dates throughout the tour.
Tickets to Nation of Language’s 2023 tour go on sale to the general public via Ticketmaster on Friday, March 10th at 10:00 a.m. local time, while a pre-sale begins Thursday, March 9th at the same time (use code OPENER ). Alternatively, fans can get tickets via Stubhub , where orders are 100% guaranteed via Stubhub’s FanProtect program.
As for “Sole Obsession,” Nation of Language’s latest song is all about infatuation. Singer Ian Devaney and keyboardist Aiden Noell explained the origins of the song in a statement, even teasing the band’s next album.
“In simplest terms, ‘Sole Obsession’ is one about knowing when, or if, to give in or give up. Particularly, when to untie the knots we tie ourselves into when an infatuation sets in,” the artists said. “So many of us have experienced an addictive feeling that constricts us further and further until, hopefully, there’s a moment of clarity that allows one to free themself from that particular compulsion. The title of our next album, Strange Disciple , is a lyric from ‘Sole Obsession’ which references a character of such a nature; one who finds themself an adherent to a subject that is probably not worth the devotion.” Listen to the track below.
Nation of Language’s last album was 2021’s A Way Forward. Revisit our interview with the band from that era here .

About Reggie Watts
Reggie Watts is an internationally renowned Musician/Comedian/Writer/Actor who currently stars as the bandleader on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. Using his formidable voice, looping pedals, and his vast imagination, Watts blends and blurs the lines between music and comedy, wowing audiences with performances that are 100% improvised.
Watts’ first Netflix special Spatial released to massive critical acclaim, with the New York Times calling it “a giddy rush of escapist nonsense” and dubbing Watts “the most influential absurdist in comedy today.” The A.V. Club described Spatial as “signature Watts, meaning it’s alternately exhilarating, silly, exhausting and transcendent,” and Exclaim! Magazine called his performance “engaging, absurd, thoughtful and, most importantly, wholly unpredictable.”
As a solo performer, Watts brand of musical/comedy fusion has led to sold out headlining tours in the U.S. and Europe, including festivals such as Bonnaroo, SXSW, Bumbershoot, Just For Laughs, Pemberton and more. Last year, Watts released his own content app called,WattsApp, a techno-savvy look into his life, work, and techno junk drawer. WattsApp has all original content including a show called, Droneversations where he interviews guests while it’s filmed by drones along with other fun content.
In 2010, Watts released his debut comedy special, Why Shit So Crazy? on Comedy Central Records, and is now available to stream on Netflix. Why Shit So Crazy?featured Watts in live performances at New York venues such as Galapagos, The Bellhouse, and Le Poisson Rouge, bookended with brief sketches and music videos. Later that year, at the invitation of Jack White, Watts recorded Reggie Watts: Live at Third Man Records which was released in limited edition vinyl. In 2012, Watts recorded his second comedy special, Reggie Watts: A Live At Central Park, which was released by Comedy Central.
Watts was born in Germany, raised in Montana, and currently resides in Los Angeles.
Montana born and raised comic. Has done comedy in Seattle, Chicago, Arizona and his favorite Austin Texas. Kainan has been doing comedy for almost 3 years now and is making his way into the industry. @Kainanlacasse is his instagram.

2024 welcomes the third region-inclusive cast to tell the story of Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker as they battle the Mouse King and his army of menacing mice before venturing to the land of sweets. Through this uniquely fun narrative ballet, Moscow Movement Arts Center offers community-centered performance opportunities for students of all ages to develop personal artistry and expression while gaining valuable experience and life-long memories. If you are a performer age five through adult who may be curious about embodying one of the many numerous imaginative roles (over 150 roles available!) such as life-sized toys, mischievous mice, the jolly polichinelles, the graceful oryx, and so much more--we will see you on August 17th!
What is The Nutcracker ?
The Nutcracker , Russian Shchelkunchik, made its world premiere in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1892 and is the last of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's three ballets. The story of The Nutcracker is loosely based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King , about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. Hoffmann’s story is darker and more troubling than the version that reached the stage; the Imperial Russian Ballet choreographer Marius Petipa chose to follow a light adaptation of the story written by Alexandre Dumas père. The ballet’s big success still lay in the future–during the Cold War, when the Russian ballet, thanks to a Russian choreographer, became an American Christmas tradition. George Balanchine, helped make the ballet popular in North America. during his success in the early 20th century. Balanchine had been working in ballet in the United States for many years when his company, Ballet Society, performed a version of the Nutcracker in New York in 1955 that became the template and inspiration for all versions performed across North America in the decades since.

Do I need to be an M-MAC student to audition/be cast?
You do not need to be a student at Moscow Movement Arts Center in order to participate--all are welcome! Any interested participant has a multitude of ways available in order to get involved. Whether you are a student in our classes throughout the week or not, if you have a curiosity and/or a desire to join us--welcome, welcome!
Do you allow double-casting?
With over 150 available roles (!), it is possible to be double cast. You are not required to be double cast, but if you are a performer at heart and have an interest in performing in both acts--let us know!
Do I need to attend all rehearsals?
Attendance at rehearsals is vital for the individual dancer. It is the time in which repertoire is learned, committed to memory, and polished it with fellow cast-mates. When a dancer misses rehearsal, it not only puts them at a disadvantage, but it has an impact on their fellow dancers. It is therefore extremely important that dancers attend all scheduled rehearsals.
Does it cost money?
There is no fee to audition, there is a participation fee once cast. Participation Fees are dedicated to the purchasing and maintenance of costumes, venue rental, run crew, etc. For those seeking to offset the cost of performing, we offer financial assistance as detailed below.
Is there financial assistance?
Yes! Inclusivity and accessibility are at the forefront of our value system at MMAC, so it is important to us to offer alternative avenues that enable participation while easing financial stress. Work/Study Scholarship A discounted performance fee of $45 is assessed in combination with volunteer support duties. In 2022 and 2023 we have been able to offer over 15 full scholarships with the support of our fundraising efforts.
