Latest results, news, updates and reactions for councils around the region as well as the Liverpool City Region Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner roles

  • Updated 14:20, 3 MAY 2024

Local Elections Knowsley count at Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park, Huyton

We are live again today for the second day of results for the local elections here in the Liverpool City Region and across the country.

It has been a bruising set of elections already for Rishi Sunak's Conservatives, who have lost more than 120 seats and have surrendered the Blackpool South Parliamentary seat of Blackpool South to Keir Starmer's Labour.

Here in the Liverpool City Region we have had one council already declare its results. Labour have strengthened their grip on Sefton Council, adding to their comfortable majority, while the Green party won an historic first seat on the council.

Today we have more key local results coming in across Knowsley and Halton and we will be looking ahead to the crucial elections for the Liverpool City Region Mayor and Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner.

We will be live across the next three days as we bring you all the results, reaction and important information from these vital votes.

Labour win North East Mayor

Left-wing independent Jamie Driscoll, who was elected to the post of North of Tyne Mayor as a Labour candidate 2019, was touted as having a good chance of winning this election. In 2023, he was barred from the Labour selection process and resigned from the party.

In this election, which has just been called, Labour candidate Kim McGuinness saw off the challenge and won with a majority of 58,399.

There is a running theme of big Labour wins in Halton.

Labour will be very happy in Knowsley

Labour were always going to retain their very strong hold on Knowsley Council today, but they faced tough fights in a couple of wards.

They will be very happy to have fended off all of those challenges and held all of their seats. It is as you were at Knowlsey Council.

Labour declares win in East Midlands

Labour has declared victory in the East Midlands mayoral election.
