Saint Martin of Tours was founded in 1897, at the request of Bishop Charles McDonnell, the second bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Today, there are approximately 3,000 families registered at St. Martin’s with the physical parish boundaries including Amityville, East Massapequa, and portions of Amity Harbor, Copiague, and North Amityville.

My Sweetest, most Endearing Memories of my Life, took place during the years I spent as a student at "St Martin of Tours School..." I shall cherish them, eternally... Ms Carol Ann Marano RN New York

I've been searching for students that went to the elementary school for over a year now. I left NY & the school after 6th grade in 1975 and would love to reconnect with some of the students. Mrs. Meade was my first grade teacher. I can be found on facebook under Teresa Santiago. Maiden name: Maria Caban. Currently live in the Dallas, TX area.

Hello ~ I entered St. Martin of Tours School (for Kindergarten) in 1948 and my teacher was the terrifying (for me) Sister Catherine Anita - who would curl her tongue as she attacked. 1A was the ethereal Sister Frances Borgia - who I LOVED - and the following grades up through Grade 4 included (the VERY tall) Sister St. Amedeus and Miss Wisenfeld. Also, there was the VERY kind Mr. Fox who was the custodian and Friend to all. My family then moved to Bethpage, Long Island where there was no local Catholic school until my youngest sister was of school age (in 1955)and she entered (another) St. Martin of Tours and stayed until she graduated from the 8th grade. Recently I returned to the streets of Bushwick because like half the world, I am doing genealogical research - and was SHOCKED that MY Catholic grammar school - across the street from the church where my parents married, where I and my siblings were all baptized and where the three eldest (including me) had our first communion - was now a charter school. "Progress" is sometimes hard to take...

I graduated Saith Martin in 1964. I remember Father Offeniser, Father Bennedetto (don't know if I spelled them correct) Also sister Jromeanna (she was 120 years old I think) . Great memories. I played on the A team for baseball and the swim team. anyone remeber that year? Pete Parrinello

I recently visited the block I lived on (Halsey Street). I was a student at St. Martin of Tours until I moved in 1955. It would be nice to connect with the kids I shared the classroom with. Looking forward to hearing from someone.

Hi Simone! This is Tony, I used to work at Ottomanelli's Cafe, Yorkville many years ago. We used to talk about Jefferson Ave and St. Martin of Tours...and Louise Brooks! 🙂 My cousin Lucille had Mrs. Hyland too. Be well and God bless!

Wow! Simone. That is cool, I just mentioned Mrs. Hyland to 2 school teachers sitting in my cafe, so I googled her. And here you mentioned her too! I moved away in mid-5th Grade, 1973. I had Mrs. Fazzio, Mrs. Hyland, Sr. Jean McGrory, St. Lucien, then Sr. Jeanne again! I think we are the same age. I think my 1st year there was ending June 1969. Both Sr. Jean and Sr. Bernadette were my angels, they even used to come to my dance recital! Great memories. I talk to Frank Scanga from my year, Veronica Santiago, and Danny Weynand. I remember Milagros Martinez, Ronald Etienne, Michele Polito, Nancy Rooney, Maureen Hauss, Aida ?, Linda Doran, the Collazo brothers. I remember those names so clear, very strange. My parents were married at St. Martin's I was baptized and made Communion there too. My heart still there. I even went to the Trift Shop once and got used Manolo Blaniks for $2.
