This was such a great show!! I would definitely see him live again.

-great light display/props/theatrics

-he sang music from all his albums which was well appreciated!

-he interacted with the crowd

-he sings AMAZING live

-chill atmosphere

-performers/musicians were smoking weed on stage

-Abel took a longgg time to get on stage, we were there for almost two hours before he did

-crowd was very drunk & rude (not his fault)

-merchandise was very expensive (I payed $40 for a t-shirt)

This review might not be completely objective as Abel has been my favourite singer for a few years now. However, I can definitely admit the Starboy tour date in Paris was the best pop concert I've been to this year. Even though some songs could have been put out of the tracklist, he mostly sang his catchiest songs of his career, no matter the era. He has great, or should I say, tremendous energy as he continuously sang twenty-something songs with no pause in between. He has no trouble reaching high notes live, his voice sounding even more heavenly in real life. That night, he invited Travis Scott on stage who pumped up the crowd more than him, which is a shame and showcases very well his lack of success and recognition in France, yet, in a sold out stadium. Most people actually didn't even know his real name or the lyrics of his songs ! I would recommend any "real fan" who has known him for a while or who likes his last album a lot to go to a Starboy tour date. I promise you, you won't regret it.

The concert was absolutely stunning. A starship was used and the lights were coordinated very well. Abel sang amazingly in person and I loved jumping up and down screaming with other members of the audience while he sang. The concert was truly magical and I enjoyed every second Abel stood on stage.

As for the other singers who appeared on stage, I was very satisfied with their singing as well. They did an amazing job and captured the entire audience. In between Abel's music, the other singers such as Lil Uzi and 6lack played their hits on stage and the whole crowd became even more alive. If I the concert played out any other way, I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as this concert.

Breaking: The Weeknd has cancelled his Australian tour

After postponing due to “unforeseen circumstances”, the Starboy has officially scrapped all of his sold-out shows

Leah Glynn

Nooo! After months of confusion following the announcement in November last year that the Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”, it has just been revealed that the entire run of sold-out Aussie gigs have been cancelled.

The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) had been scheduled to play four epic shows at Marvel Stadium on December 1, 2, 4 and 5, 2023, with performances also confirmed in both Sydney and Brisbane. None of these will go ahead now, with Ticketek confirming that full refunds will be issued to all ticketholders

“Whilst we continue to work through the rescheduling process with the artist, tickets for the existing 2023 tour will be cancelled. All purchased tickets will receive a full refund,” reads a statement on the ticketing company’s website.

It’s expected that refunds will take approximately 30 days to appear in the accounts of ticketholders. And if the Weeknd does indeed decide to head Down Under again (c’mon, we gotta hold out hope), those people will be able to access a priority pre-sale purchase window for new tickets. If sitting in that stressful Ticketek waiting room is something you’d do all over again just to see the Starboy in real life, there’s a waitlist you can join here .

There’s been no word from the Weeknd himself regarding the Aussie cancellations, and he didn’t publicly comment on the initial postponement – so we’re not holding out hope for statement (or apology!).

All those tears you were saving for another day? Yep, it’s time to shed ‘em. We’ll keep you updated with new info as it comes in.

Top 8 concerts this week in Sarasota, Englewood, Palmetto

The top concerts taking place in sarasota and manatee counties this week..

the weeknd tour venues

May is usually when it starts to slow down events-wise here in Sarasota-Manatee, but you wouldn't know that from this edition of concert picks. Performers set to visit us this week include a Grammy winner who's one of the best-selling musicians of all time, along with artists who've won or been nominated for Latin Grammys, Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) and Blues Music Awards.

This week's concert picks also include two rising stars from Nashville: a country musician who recently shared the stage with Keith Urban at the CMT Music Awards, and a singer-songwriter who had a track of theirs named to a best-of list alongside names such as Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. And multiple Tampa and Sarasota musicians will play a free, daylong concert that marks the conclusion of an annual local LGBTQ+ arts festival. Here are this week's highlights. Event details are subject to change.

Fogartyville kicks off what'll be a busy week for the Sarasota venue with the return of Chuchito Valdés on Friday. The Cuban jazz pianist hails from a musical family that includes his father Chucho Valdés, who was just here for Sarasota Jazz Festival in March , and grandfather Bebo Valdés. Chuchito has crafted his own path successfully as a musician, with seven Latin Grammy nominations to his name including dual nominations in 2013: Best Latin Jazz Album for "Grand Piano Live" and Best Folk Album for "Carnaval En Piano Charango" with Eddy Navia, who plays the charango, an Andean stringed instrument. 7 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. show Friday; Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota; $32, $28 members, $16 students ages 13 and up; 941-894-6469;  fogartyville.org

Be Fabulous Music & Arts Pride Fest

The annual three-day festival held by local LGBTQ+ organization Fabulous Arts Foundation, formerly known as Harvey Milk Festival, will once again conclude with a free daylong, multi-act concert. This year's lineup features Sarasota electro-rock-synth-pop group MeteorEYES, whose members include Fabulous Arts Foundation executive director and founder Shannon Fortner, and Tampa alt-rocker Summer Hoop, who has played other such music fests as Gasparilla Music Festival and 97X Next Big Thing. Fellow Tampa musician Zeta the Babe, who performs neo-soul R&B with a loop pedal, saxophone and vocals including beatboxing, will also perform along with Sarasota's Brittany Zeff, nowincolor and Grace Cespedes. 3-10 p.m. Saturday; Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota; free, but donations appreciated;  fabaf.org

Two years after visiting our area to attend a Sarasota Film Festival screening of the documentary "Listening to Kenny G" and perform at Van Wezel, the Grammy-winning smooth jazz saxophonist will return to the latter venue for a concert. Kenny G is among the best-selling musicians of all time, with numerous multi-platinum albums including 1992's diamond-selling (10 million units or more sold) "Breathless," with that same album featuring the song "Forever in Love" that won him a Best Instrumental Composition Grammy. He still continues to release new music, including last year's album "Innocence," as well as collaborating with other musicians such as The Weeknd, appearing in a music video for the R&B star's song "In Your Eyes." 7 p.m. Sunday; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota; $60-$85; 941-263-6799;  vanwezel.org

Maggie Baugh

Less than two months after opening for "Nashville" actor/country musician Charles Esten at Sarasota's Big Top Brewing Company, Maggie Baugh will return to the venue for a headlining show. Hailing from Boca Raton, where she grew up studying classical music, writing songs and playing shows across Florida, Baugh is now based in Nashville and released her debut album "Dear Me" last year. She also recently shared the stage with country star Keith Urban during a performance of his new single "Straight Line" at last month's CMT Music Awards ceremony. 7 p.m. Wednesday; Big Top Brewing Company, 975 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota; $10; 941-371-2939;  bigtopbrewing.com

Kat Riggins

The day before this year's Blues Music Awards ceremony, where she's nominated once again, Miami blues singer-songwriter Kat Riggins is set to play Sarasota County restaurant and venue Englewoods on Dearborn. Riggins is up for Soul Blues Female Artist at this year's Blues Music Awards, which have nominated her four consecutive years in at least one category, with Contemporary Blues Album and Soul Blues Album other categories in which she's received nominations. Those nominations were for 2020's "Cry Out" and 2022's "Progeny," respectively, both of which Riggins released on Gulf Coast Records, the label co-founded by blues-rocker Mike Zito. 6:30 p.m. Wednesday; Englewoods on Dearborn, 362 W. Dearborn St., Englewood; $10; 941-475-7501; englewoodsondearborn.com

Crystal Shawanda Band

Also set to perform at Englewoods on Dearborn this week will be Canadian blues musician Crystal Shawanda. She started out in country music, landing on both Billboard's country albums chart and the Billboard 200 with her 2008 debut studio album "Dawn of a New Day," before switching to the blues with 2014's "The Whole World's Got the Blues." She won one of her two Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent of the Grammys) for Blues Album of the Year for her 2020 full-length "Church House Blues," and was nominated in the same category last year for her 2022 album "Midnight Blues." 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9; Englewoods on Dearborn, 362 W. Dearborn St., Englewood; $7; 941-475-7501; englewoodsondearborn.com

Fogartyville's live music lineup concludes this week with Nashville singer-songwriter Kyshona. She comes to Sarasota about two weeks after playing the annual North Carolina roots music festival MerleFest and releasing her latest album "Legacy," featuring blues musician Keb' Mo' on the single "Carolina." She previously released the 2022 EP "The Parthenon Sessions," recorded at the titular Nashville landmark, featuring the track "Nighttime Animal" that was named one of  American Songwriter's Top 24 Songs of 2022  alongside music by such stars as Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. 6 p.m. doors, 7 p.m. show Thursday; Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota; $24, $20 members, $12 students ages 13 and up; 941-894-6469;  fogartyville.org

Oneohtrix Point Never

One of the challenges for electronic-music artists who aren’t making dance music is how to put on a compelling live show. The answer, of course, is to serve up not just exciting music but visuals as well, and at a packed Paramount Theater in Brooklyn on Friday, as usual, Oneohtrix Point Never (aka Daniel Lopatin) delivered.

Take That move gigs to different Manchester venue over Co-op Live issues

Boyband cites ‘technical issues’ at arena where Olivia Rodrigo, Keane and Peter Kay had also been due to perform

Take That have announced they will not be performing at the new Co-op Live Arena due to “ongoing technical issues” with the venue in Manchester .

The boyband had been due to perform from Tuesday but will instead switch their shows to the rival AO Arena.

The UK’s biggest indoor arena, which cost £365m and has postponed its opening numerous times , said it will be taking “a short pause to events” before welcoming members of the public from 14 May.

A statement from Co-op Live said this was to “fully ensure the safety and security of fans and artists” and allow for an “independent inspection of all elements of the arena ceiling” after an issue with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

On Instagram, Take That wrote: “Given the ongoing technical issues around the opening of Co-op Live we have taken the difficult decision to move our May shows to the AO Arena where we have enjoyed many great nights over the years.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we wanted to give our fans as much notice as possible.

“We’re mindful many of you will already have travel and accommodation plans in place, so we have chosen this option to minimise inconvenience to as many people as possible.

“Our dates in June in Manchester remain unaffected.”

All of Take That’s shows have been transferred and are the same dates as before except for 8 May, which has been changed to 9 May.

Earlier, Keane, who have been celebrating 20 years of their debut album Hopes and Fears, said they were “really disappointed” as they revealed the postponement of a gig on Sunday. The group said it was “entirely beyond our control”.

In a statement on X, Co-op Live said: “Following the events that led to the cancelled A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie show on 1 May, we have decided to take a short pause to events at Co-op Live to fully ensure the safety and security of fans and artists visiting the venue. This time will allow for an independent inspection of all elements of the arena ceiling.”

It added: “At this time, we do not expect further impact on our opening season. We are aware our actions have frustrated and angered ticket-holders. We know you’ve incurred significant disruption, and are finding a way to help make it right.”

Tim Leiweke, chair and chief executive of US-based venue operator Oak View Group, apologised for the delays and to “all those that have been affected”.

On Wednesday night the venue postponed its opening show for the third time, just over an hour before rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was due to perform, because of a problem during the sound check. The US musician’s gig is now scheduled to take place on Saturday at the AO Arena.

Olivia Rodrigo had been due to perform at the Co-op Live Arena on Friday and Saturday as part of her Guts world tour but her shows have also been postponed.

The standup comedian Peter Kay was scheduled to be the first performer at the arena but his show had to be postponed with less than 48 hours’ notice after a test event.

A Co-op Group spokesperson said: “As naming rights sponsor for Co-op Live we are disappointed with these further schedule changes.

“We fully appreciate and understand the impact and upset the delays have caused to ticket-holders and our Co-op members.

“Co-op is a sponsor and does not own or run the venue, and we have made it clear to Oak View Group, who are responsible for the building, that the impact on ticket-holders must be addressed as a priority.

“We are pleased that they will shortly be putting plans in place to do so.

“We also understand that the necessary safety checks following yesterday’s incident are being completed and independently verified so that Co-op members and other ticket-holders can be reassured that the venue has the very highest levels of security and safety measures.”

Solotech has acquired what is thought to be the largest single batch of LED tiles ever recorded, with the purchase of 4,500 sq metres of ROE CB5 Mark II.

The largest ever order for the product forms part of a total purchase of more than 5,0000 sq metres of LED, which is aimed at making Solotech the industry’s leading LED video rental provider.

The sheer size of the order enables Solotech to offer true colour consistency at scale for global artists, indoor or outdoor events in stadiums festivals and other venues, including for the music sports, corporate and cultural sectors.

Mickey Curbishley, president of Solotech's live productions division for the US and UK, said: “The CB5 has become the industry standard for global touring over the past five years or so.

"With the addition of such a large quantity of ROE CB5 MarkII LED tiles to our already substantial offering, the team at Solotech will continue to deliver the most spectacular projects on the global stage."

Solotech has been in the AV business for 47 years and provides solutions for over 12,000 projects per year, including festivals and 40% of top worldwide music tours, according to Pollstar. In addition to being ranked as one of the world’s top systems integrators, the company has expanded its new and used audiovisual equipment offerings in the e-commerce space.

Solotech recently won a Lighting Company of the Year for its work on Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in 2024, having also received an award for Video Production Company of the Year for its work with The Weeknd in 2023 at the Parnelli Awards.

Mariah Carey's Assistant Brushes Her Hair After Going on Rollercoaster Ride

Quavo's concert attended by small crowd, fans blame chris brown, quavo video shows sparse concert crowd ... sparks chris brown conspiracies.

Quavo ' s recent concert's getting attention online ... 'cause the crowd looks pretty small compared to the venue -- and, tons of people are convinced it's Chris Brown 's doing.

Video from Quavo's concert in Bridgeport, Connecticut is floating around social media ... seemingly showing a damn-near empty venue looking more like a gig for a small-time artist than a former member of Migos .

The crowd in the pit's pressed up close to the stage ... with people in back of the clot no more than 10 or 15 rows removed from the artist.

It's a pretty bizarre scene, ya gotta say and Quavo handles it with grace ... putting on a pretty spectacular show for the lackluster audience. But, the tiny crowd has people online theorizing Chris Brown may have pulled one over on Q.

Folks online are pushing the conspiracy theory Brown bought a ton of the tickets for the show so Quavo would perform to a pretty much empty concert hall -- basically as a way to embarrass his nemesis.

If Chris Brown really bought out all the front row seats at Quavo’s concert so that it’ll flop, thats next level petty…😂😂😭 pic.twitter.com/ezeJMxlNsO — D (@mrmotivated87) April 28, 2024 @mrmotivated87

Admittedly, it's a bit far-fetched ... Chris would've spent a small fortune on Quavo's show -- handing over cash to someone he hates. Stranger things have happened, we suppose.

Remember ... Quavo took the most recent shot in the duo's rap beef -- blasting CB in his song "Over Hoes & Bitches" with a bit of posthumous help from his nephew, Takeoff .

CB didn't respond to the track ... instead putting out an unrelated song with Skylar Blatt -- with no references to the beef because they recorded the track last year.

In any case, Chris has fans' minds racing ... whether he really clowned Quavo or not.

We've reached out to Quavo's team about the show ... so far, no word back.

TikTok-UMG Deal Unmutes Your Videos, Restores Music From Top Artists

TikTok has been a critical promotional tool for musicians and an important venue for creative experimentation and for building communities.

the weeknd tour venues

UMG and TikTok reached a deal to end a dispute that had kept music from the likes of Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny off the social media platform.

Universal Music Group and TikTok just called time on their three-month spat. On Thursday, the label and the social platform struck a "multi-dimensional licensing agreement" that will see music from UMG's artists, including SZA, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar and Ariana Grande, available for you to use as TikTok audio once more.

Not only will you be able to use music from UMG artists in new videos, but your existing TikToks that have been muted because they featured songs from the UMG catalog will now be unmuted.

"This new chapter in our relationship with TikTok focuses on the value of music, the primacy of human artistry and the welfare of the creative community," said UMG Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge in a statement. Huge stars including Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Drake and The Beatles were caught up in the dispute, but their music has now been restored to the platform.

It's felt like a long three months since TikTok and UMG announced in early February that they'd failed to reach a new deal . UMG accused TikTok of failing to compensate it fairly for using artists' music, as well as not protecting its artists from AI or doing enough to keep the platform safe. In the intervening period, one UMG artist, Taylor Swift, did return to TikTok with her new double album, signaling that the record label and video-sharing platform were on better terms, and potentially close to hashing out a deal.

Read more:   TikTok Is Changing the Way You Discover Music. Meet the Young Creators Making It Happen

Now that deal is a reality, and it's designed to help UMG artists and songwriters reach their full creative and commercial potential. The platform has been a critical promotional tool for musicians in recent years, but has also become an important venue for creative experimentation and building communities . A fresh start for the pair will allow TikTok's 1 billion-plus users around the world to create videos using tracks by their favorite artists and discover new music by artists and songwriters.

AI Atlas art badge tag

As part of the new deal, TikTok and UMG say they'll also be working closely on artist campaigns and new opportunities for artists to make money on the platform. The deal includes protections with respect to generative AI , including a commitment on TikTok's part to remove AI-generated music and beef up artist and songwriter attribution.

While the breakthrough is being celebrated by all parties, this isn't the end of TikTok's woes. On April 24, President Joe Biden signed a bill that could result in TikTok being banned in the US , which would affect the platform's more than 100 million American users. Lawmakers are concerned that TikTok's China-linked parent company ByteDance could be a threat to national security and want it to sell the platform to a company the US approves of.

For now, US-based TikTok users have full access to the platform and UMG's library, but TikTok's wider fight to prove itself continues.
