Meghan Markle Shares Throwback USO Photo To Honour Veterans

Talk about a throwback!

In honor of Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in the U.K. and Commonwealth on Monday, the Sussex Royal Instagram account shared a slideshow that included an old photo of Meghan Markle on a USO tour in 2014.

Back then, Markle was best known as Rachel Zane on “Suits,” and was still a few years away from becoming the Duchess of Sussex.

Standing alongside Markle in the photo is actor Rob Riggle, a former United States Marine Corps Reserve officer, “Glee” actor Dianna Agron, country singer Kellie Pickler, former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher and former Washington Nationals pitcher Doug Fister.

“Thank you to all, for your service, sacrifice and commitment,” reads the caption on the collection of photos. “It has been an important week to recognise those who serve (and have served) as well as to acknowledge their families.”

On the 2014 Chairman’s USO Holiday Tour , the group visited troops in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom.

There are even a few shots of Markle in this old video from the trip:

The duchess, Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family participated in many events leading up to Remembrance Sunday this past weekend.

The special day honors “the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community, the British and Commonwealth veterans, the Allies that fought alongside us and the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars and later conflicts,” according to the Royal British Legion website.

Harry himself served in the British Army for 10 years and did two tours of Afghanistan, eventually becoming a captain.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attend the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Nov. 7 in London.

In the coming weeks, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will take some time off from the royal spotlight on a six-week sabbatical for “family time,” according to a Sunday Times report published last month.

They are reportedly planning on bringing baby Archie to Los Angeles to visit his grandmother, Doria Ragland, for his very first Thanksgiving.

Duchess Meghan was one of the people who commemorated Remembrance Day in the UK and Veteran’s Day in the US on Monday. She observed the special days by sharing a photo from before she became a Royal.

The throwback image, shared on her Sussex Royal Instagram, featured the Duchess in 2014 on Veteran’s Day. At the time she was on a USO tour visiting Spain, Italy, Turkey, Afghanistan, and the UK.

The post revealed that Meghan met up with service personnel and their families. She captioned the post noting that the day was “to honour those who have bravely served in the Armed Forces.”

The Royal also added:

“Thank you to all, for your service, sacrifice and commitment. It has been an important week to recognise those who serve (and have served) as well as to acknowledge their families.”

On Sunday, the Duchess joined other Royal family members at a Remembrance Day ceremony. Those who lost their lives in World War I were honored.

The ceremony was attended by her husband Prince Harry , his brother Prince William and his wife Duchess Kate , and Prince Andrew , the Queen , Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, to name a few. The event was held at the Cenotaph war memorial in London.

Charles, William, and Harry stood by the cenotaph to lay wreaths at the foot of the memorial.

On Saturday, Meghan and Harry attended the Festival of Remembrance Service at Royal Albert Hall. This was their first public outing with William and Kate since July.

“Thank you to all, for your service, sacrifice and commitment”

Meghan and her husband are set to wrap up their official duties for the year soon . The couple is then expected to take a six-week break.

During that time, they will visit with family members. The couple will be at their home in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and the US.

Their trip to the Duchess’ home country will reportedly be an opportunity to take baby Archie to spend Thanksgiving with Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.

Meghan Markle slammed for seemingly telling woman to not stand next to Prince Harry

Meghan Markle has been roasted online after her bizarre behaviour at a polo event – with the duchess dubbed “rude” for her comments to another woman.

Meghan’s awkward moment at polo game

Footage showing Meghan Markle appearing to tell a woman not to stand next to Prince Harry has blown up on social media overnight.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Royal Salute Polo Challenge held at the Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington on Sunday, where Meghan handed her husband the trophy after his team was victorious at the event.

But an awkward moment has since become the talking point, with video showing an unidentified woman going to stand next to Harry for a photo opportunity, before Meghan seemingly gestures her to move elsewhere.

“So do you want to come over here?” Meghan can be heard asking. “Do you want to go over here?”

Meghan Markle appeared to ask a woman to not stand next to Prince Harry.

The video, which has lit up TikTok and Instagram, has prompted a wave of commentary from social media users, who dubbed the duchess “rude”.

“Oh, so cringe,” one person wrote, while another chimed in, “She seems insecure regarding her husband. That’s why she keeps clinging on him and any woman who stands beside him is told to stand beside her.”

A third wrote, “Craving for attention and the camera.”

“Always wanting to steal the spotlight,” a fourth added.

“Wow, that’s incredible. Does she have no idea how she comes across to everyone else,” another said.

Others were quick to defend Meghan, saying “the woman can’t breathe without someone criticising her.”

“Meghan is beautiful and Harry looks happy. Now everyone just go and mind their own business,” one wrote.

“I think Meghan was correct on this occasion. I would have done the same,” another said.

“That lady was blocking Harry. Why would Meghan move away from her own husband?” a third questioned.

Despite the exchange, Meghan and Harry seemed in good spirits at the event, as they were photographed sharing a kiss onstage and walking together hand-in-hand.

The polo game, which supported Harry’s Sentebale charity, came amid an exciting announcement from the couple, who revealed they were working on two new series’ for Netflix as part of their multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming company, which they signed in 2020.

Meghan is producing and starring in a lifestyle-focused show that will celebrate “the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship”, while the second series will be about polo.

It seems as though Meghan is returning to her lifestyle roots after being forced to retire her blog The Tig once she became engaged to Harry in 2017.

In March, the mother-of-two announced the launch of her own brand, American Riviera Orchard, which will sell food, kitchen products and cookbooks, as well as cosmetics including makeup and skincare.

The Prince of Wales is set to return to full-time royal duties this week and to take on a truly unprecedented role.

As King Charles and the Princess of Wales both fight cancer, one thing sharply divides the increasingly close duo.

An awkward moment unfolds as Meghan Markle asks a woman not to pose next to Prince Harry at a charity polo match.

Saddle Up to See Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Date at Polo Match in Florida

Meghan markle cheered on husband prince harry as he competed in the royal salute polo challenge, a charity match benefiting his and prince seeiso of lesotho's charity sentebale..

Meghan Markle  doesn't horse around when it comes to supporting  Prince Harry .

In fact, the Duchess of Sussex was her husband's biggest cheerleader when he took part in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge at Wellington, Fla., on April 12.

Clad in a white halter dress with reminiscent of her  2018 wedding reception dress by Stella McCartney , Meghan was right by his side as he prepared to saddle up for the charity match. After Harry donned on his polo uniform, the Suits alum—who shares kids Archie Harrison , 4, and Lilibet "Lili" Diana , 2, with the Duke of Sussex—was seen sweetly giving him a pep talk while walking out onto the polo field.

After Harry's team defeated the Grand Champions in a 3-1 game, Meghan joined him at the winner's circle, where the two shared a kiss.

But she wasn't the only one rooting for Harry that day: Their close friend Serena Williams was also in attendance. At one point during the fundraiser, the tennis superstar was seen exchanging hugs with Meghan and Harry.

The polo match was held to benefit Sentebale, the charity Harry cofounded with  Prince Seeiso of Lesotho  in 2006 to help African children affected by poverty, inequality and HIV/AIDS.

And polo is a sport close to Harry's heart. In addition to having played it with his dad  King Charles III  and brother  Prince William , the Duke of Sussex is currently  producing a Netflix series about the world of professional polo .

The show is one of two projects he and Meghan's Archewell Productions has with the streamer as part of their  2020 deal , according to  Deadline . The second series reportedly in the works will follow Meghan as she celebrates the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship.

Of course, the royal couple are no strangers to Netflix, having released their Harry & Meghan docuseries on the platform in 2022.

"I'm not going to say that it's comfortable," Meghan previously said of making the documentary. "But when you feel like people haven't gotten any sense of who you are for so long, it's really nice to just be able to have the opportunity to let people have a bit more of a glimpse into what's happened and also who we are."

For a closer look at Meghan and Harry's life as parents, keep reading.

"I don't think you can force these things. It will happen when it's gonna happen," he told Sky News back in 2015 when asked if the birth of his niece Princess Charlotte made him think about settling down. "Of course, I would love to have kids right now, but there's a process that one has to go through."

Planning for Her Little One

Years ago, Meghan even made a purchase with her future daughter in mind. "I've always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version," she recalled to Hello! in 2015. "I had it engraved on the back, 'To M.M. From M.M.' and I plan to give it to my daughter one day."

Fatherhood is a subject that—along with marriage—has long trailed  Prince Charles  and the late  Princess Diana 's younger son. "There have been moments through life, especially when we do a tour abroad, when I think, 'I'd love to have kids now'... And then there are other times when I bury my head in the sand going, 'All right, don't need kids!' There's no rush. I tell you what: There's been times I've been put off having children," he admitted to People back in May 2016, shortly before meeting his future wife.

In 2017, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their engagement and sat for their first joint interview. Naturally, the topic of future kids came up. "Of course. You know, I think you know one step at a time, and hopefully, we'll start a family in the near future," Prince Harry said at the time with Meghan smiling beside him.

"It's magic," Meghan said about becoming a mum following Archie's birth. "It's pretty amazing and, I mean, I have the two best guys in the world, so I'm really happy."

Following Archie's birth in May 2019, Harry gushed , "It's been the most amazing experience I can ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It's been amazing so we just wanted to share this with everybody."

Harry reflected on the lessons he's learned since becoming a parent during a speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit in 2019. He shared, "I'm struck by a few things today, most of which is the power of the invisible role model. The person who may be sitting here today that doesn't realize that someone looks up to them that—for that person—you inspire them to be kinder, better, greater, more successful, more impactful. Perhaps it's the newfound clarity I have as a father knowing that my son will always be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, one day maybe even following in my footsteps."

Doting on Archie

"Our little man is our No. 1 priority but then our work after that is the second priority," Prince Harry shared during a speaking engagement in 2020, "and we're just doing everything we can to try and play our part in trying to make the world a better place."

Harry and Meghan found a silver lining  amid the coronavirus pandemic through baby Archie. "In so many ways we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow, and in the absence of COVID, we would be traveling and working more externally," Meghan shared in October 2020. "We'd miss a lot of those moments. So I think it's been a lot of really good family time."

Harry added, "We were both there for Archie's first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything."

In May 2021, Meghan made a rare TV appearance during Global Citizen's VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World special. The former actress opened up about her pregnancy and shared her excitement about raising a daughter . "My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world," she said at the time. "When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and the support to lead us forward."

She added, "Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make and the actions we take now to set them up, and set all of us up, for a successful, equitable and compassionate tomorrow."

Meghan makes a brief cameo in her husband's Apple TV+ series with Oprah , The Me You Can't See . During her appearance, the California native seemingly pays tribute to her growing family with a shirt that reads, "Raising the Future."

Party of Four!

The couple welcomed their baby girl . In a statement shared on their Archewell Foundation page, they gushed, "On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili . She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

On June 8, 2021, Meghan will release her first children's book, The Bench , which is a celebration of fatherhood from a mother's perspective. Of her new project, she said in a press release in May , " The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born. That poem became this story."

And then there are other times when I bury my head in the sand going, 'All right, don't need kids!' There's no rush. I tell you what: There's been times I've been put off having children," he admitted to People back in May 2016, shortly before meeting his future wife.

Looking Towards the Future

In 2017, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their engagement and sat for their first joint interview. Naturally, the topic of future kids came up. "Of course. You know, I think you know one step at a time, and hopefully, we'll start a family in the near future," Prince Harry said at the time with Meghan smiling beside him.

Joys of Motherhood

"It's magic," Meghan said about becoming a mum following Archie's birth. "It's pretty amazing and, I mean, I have the two best guys in the world, so I'm really happy."

Following Archie's birth in May 2019, Harry gushed , "It's been the most amazing experience I can ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It's been amazing so we just wanted to share this with everybody."

Changed for Good

Archie's Firsts

Harry and Meghan found a silver lining amid the coronavirus pandemic through baby Archie. "In so many ways we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow, and in the absence of COVID, we would be traveling and working more externally," Meghan shared in October 2020. "We'd miss a lot of those moments. So I think it's been a lot of really good family time."

Harry added, "We were both there for Archie's first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything."

Awaiting Her Baby Girl's Arrival

Raising the Future

Meghan Markle's White Cutout Halter Dress Is a Sign of Her New Style Era

The Duchess of Sussex's look for the Sentebale charity polo match stands out in her polished style file.

Meghan Markle wearing a white dress at a charity event

This March, Meghan Markle hired stylist Jamie Mizrahi for a reported "Hollywood relaunch"—ostensibly tied to major career moves like the launch of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard , and her forthcoming Netflix projects . Less than a month later, the Duchess of Sussex is ready to reveal her new outlook on personal style. Spoiler: It's a more daring approach to the polished neutrals and streamlined dresses she's worn in the past.

On Friday, April 12, Meghan Markle dressed in an ivory Heidi Merrick dress to cheer on Prince Harry at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge to benefit Sentebale. (The former royal founded the charity, which supports children in Africa affected by inequality, poverty, and HIV/AIDS, with Lesotho's Prince Seeiso in 2006.) Markle's high neckline and clean palette reflected past outfits for public engagements—with the exception of a large triangular cutout at the base of the bodice.

Markle's dress also had a banded, structured waistband that flowed into a mid-length skirt. She coordinated the piece with oversize square black sunglasses—a second item from the "California lifestyle brand" Heidi Merrick.

Markle posed with players after the match.

While the flash of skin was a style-180 for Markle's modest-yet-sleek wardrobe, her mix of accessories stayed true to past looks. She combined old staples (like a white Valentino bag and nude Aquazzura pumps) with vintage pieces (a pair of archival Chanel earrings).

Meghan Markle wears a white suit and carries a Valentino bag

Meghan Markle previously carried her white, quilted Valentino bag to the 2022 Invictus Games in the Netherlands.

Over the years, Meghan Markle has supported Prince Harry's polo matches in a range of spring-ready sundresses and suiting by luxury and contemporary brands—but never in the form of a cutout dress. In 2018, she attended the same Sentebale benefit match in a denim dress by one of her favorite designers, Carolina Herrera. She also stepped into Aquazzura pumps for the occasion.

Meghan Markle's outfit for the 2018 match was much more conservative, featuring a belted denim dress by Carolina Herrera, a rattan J.Crew clutch, and Aquazzura pumps.

Between the March news that Markle is exploring her style horizons and Friday's Polo Cup appearance, the entrepreneur has made a handful of surprise appearances. Those looks shared the same reserved, polished approach she took to dressing for life as a working royal—and for her return to the United States—with a stable of designers her followers will recognize. For a March visit to Children's Hospital Los Angeles , Markle re-wore an Oscar de la Renta shirt dress with semi-sheer floral detailing. Speaking at the Kinsey Collection a few weeks before, she draped a floral cape by Carolina Herrera over her shoulders. (Very pretty, but not yet envelope-pushing.)

Markle has worn plenty of ivory before, but her more daring silhouette could be the start of something new with Mizrahi. The fashion expert is known for creating distinct-yet-aspirational style identities for her clients, from quiet luxury with The Row and Dior for Jennifer Lawrence to high glamour in Givenchy and Schiaparelli for Adele.

At the very least, the Duchess's look has a subtle tie to one of her upcoming projects. Heidi Merrick is a Los Angeles-based designer channeling an upscale-yet-relaxed lifestyle reflective of her Santa Barbara, California, upbringing into clothing. The vibe isn't too far off from Markle's Montecito-based American Riviera Orchard (based on the limited sneak-peek).

It'll take more public appearances for Markle and Mizrahi's vision to fully take form. So far, the results are delightfully unexpected. Shop little white dresses inspired by Meghan Markle's cutout halter moment below.

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is a feminist, champion of human rights and gender equity, and global role model. Her lifelong advocacy for women and girls remains a constant thread she weaves through both humanitarian and business ventures. She is noted as one of the most powerful and influential women in the world, topping lists such as TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People, The Financial Times’ 25 Most Influential Women, Variety Power of Women, and British Vogue’s Vogue 25.

She and her husband, Prince Harry have also been the recipients of the NAACP President’s Award as well as the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award. Meghan’s global impact, and strong stance on resilience, equality, and compassion through action, have made her one of the most iconic public figures of this generation.

Born and raised in Southern California, Meghan attended Los Angeles based all-girls Catholic School, Immaculate Heart, which she continues to support as an alumna, before moving to Chicago to attend the prestigious Northwestern University. While there, she double majored in Theater and International Relations, and went on to intern at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as to study abroad in Madrid, Spain. After graduation, Meghan turned her focus to the entertainment industry, landing her big break as a lead actor on the hit series, ‘Suits’ which she starred in for seven seasons. During her time off between filming, Meghan travelled to Rwanda, India, and across the globe working on humanitarian missions, and serving in key roles such as: UN Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership, a World Vision Global Ambassador, and a leading Counsellor to One Young World, where she inspired youth and women around the world through her passionate advocacy and hands-on approach to being of service. She also travelled to support the military community on a USO Tour, visiting six military bases in seven days including Bagram, Afghanistan.

In 2018, Meghan married Prince Harry, becoming The Duchess of Sussex.

An accomplished writer, she has contributed pieces to publications in the UK, US, and Ireland, and parlayed that skill into the creation of the successful lifestyle website, ‘The Tig’, where her thoughtful and inspiring op-eds cultivated a global fanbase. The Duchess of Sussex was the first guest editor in the history of British Vogue for their July Issue in 2019, which was the fastest selling copy in the history of the publication.

She and Prince Harry founded The Archewell Foundation in 2020 to support communities in need at a micro and macro level, in both moments of crisis as well as for long term aid. At The Archewell Foundation, they hold the value that charitable work should not simply be ‘a handout, but rather a hand held’, a phrase which Meghan first coined when supporting UK charity Smart Works, of which she is patron, that uplifts and prepares underserved women to enter the workforce. Meghan and her husband also founded and oversee production company, Archewell Productions and podcasting arm, Archewell Audio.

In 2022, Meghan launched ‘Archetypes’, a record-breaking podcast exploring the labels that try to hold women back; ‘Archetypes’ debuted at Number 1 in The US, UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, and topped the charts as the Number 1 podcast in 47 countries, demonstrating her unparalleled global reach. After its first season, Archetypes was awarded The People’s Choice Award in the podcast category.

She is a NY Times Best Selling author, publishing her highly celebrated children’s book, ‘The Bench’, and “Together: Our Community Kitchen” a publication she spearheaded with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen in the UK, who were displaced after the tragic Grenfell Fire. True to her character, The Duchess of Sussex mobilized to turn pain into purpose, working alongside this dynamic group of women to help them heal, grow, and develop their own business enterprises in the face of adversity. In addition to topping the NY Times Bestsellers list, “Together,” also debuted as number one on the UK’s Sunday Booklist, with proceeds going to the Kitchen.

Meghan’s influence in fashion has been coined “The Meghan Effect” with items selling out within hours of her wearing them. Her ‘effect’ has transcended fashion, shifting cultural conversations as seen with her op-ed for the NY Times “The Losses We Share.” The piece detailed a heartbreaking personal loss which spiked the conversation surrounding miscarriage to the highest it had been spoken of in over two decades at the time of publishing.

Meghan is a passionate advocate for mental health and family care, the holistic support of women and children’s rights, and the immeasurable value of one’s self worth. Her core belief that representation matters, and her connection to community through the lens of learning, healing, and inspiring have helped define her as a cultural catalyst for positive change.

Meghan resides in California with her husband and their children Prince Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet Diana, and their three dogs.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Attend First Event of the Invictus Games — See Her All-White Outfit!

On their way to the Invictus Games, Meghan and Prince Harry made a pit stop in the U.K. to visit with Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth

Stephanie Petit is a Royals Editor, Writer and Reporter at PEOPLE.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are in the Netherlands and getting ready for the Invictus Games.

On Friday, the couple made their first appearance at a welcome reception for teams as well as their family and friends in The Hague. Meghan sported an all white ensemble featuring wide-leg trousers with a matching oversized blazer, complementing her ensemble with gold jewelry including the kitten mitten bracelet by Catbird NYC. She also wore a few pieces from her wedding day to Prince Harry : her Cartier stud earrings and the heels she wore for their evening reception .

Meanwhile, Harry opted for a suit sans tie.

For more on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, listen below to our daily podcast PEOPLE Every Day.

They were escorted by Team Netherlands athletes and some of their family members, including a mom who used carried her baby reportedly wrapped in Meghan's tan coat.

This evening, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also attend a second reception for dignitaries hosted by the City of The Hague and Dutch Ministry of Defence.

Meghan and Harry met members of Ukraine's team , who gifted Prince Harry with a calendar from the organization Come Back Alive . Launched in 2014, Come Back Alive became the biggest organization providing support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to their website.

The delegation from Australia also had a gift for Harry: some skimpy swimwear that read "I Am Team Aus."

"Now that the Duke of Sussex is living in California, Team Australia thought it appropriate to continue the tradition of gifting stunning new budgie smugglers to the Duke," the Aussie Invictus Game captioned photos on Twitter.

On their way to the Invictus Games, Meghan and Prince Harry made a stop in the U.K. to visit with Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth .

Meghan, 40, has not returned to Europe since March 2020, when she and Prince Harry , 37, carried out their final round of royal engagements before they officially stepped back as working royals at the end of that month.

Prince Harry has returned to the U.K. on two occasions: for his grandfather Prince Philip 's funeral in April 2021 and again to unveil a statue of his late mother Princess Diana alongside older brother Prince William in July 2021. (In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting travel, Meghan gave birth to their daughter Lilibet Diana — named after the Queen's childhood nickname and Harry's mother — in June.)

This year's Games were originally scheduled for 2020 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that Meghan will join Prince Harry in the Netherlands for the first several days of the Invictus Games, the international sports competition founded by Harry for wounded service members and veterans.

But it won't be Meghan's first Invictus experience. In 2017, she joined Harry at the Toronto Games , marking the couple's first official appearance together . She was by his side again in 2018 for the Sydney Games, shortly after the couple announced they were expecting their first child, son Archie Harrison.

In 2014, Harry — who served a decade in the British army and two tours in Afghanistan — was inspired to establish the Invictus Games , a Paralympic-style competitive event showing the unconquerable spirit of wounded, ill and injured servicemen and women.

Harry said at a Nov. 2021 gala at New York City's Intrepid Museum that he created the Invictus Games "to honor the legacy of those who have given so much" as well as to show "that the men and women who have experienced service injuries, as well as their families, are the strongest people in the world...and they deserve a platform to be seen, a platform to be recognized and a platform to be truly celebrated."

The Invictus Games have previously been held in London in 2014, Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017 and Sydney in 2018. They will next take place in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2023.

Before they met, both Meghan and Harry shared a commitment to supporting the troops. In addition to the Invictus Games, Harry has inspired veterans with the Walking with the Wounded charity and the Endeavour Fund . Meghan, meanwhile, traveled to Afghanistan in December 2014 on a USO tour.

African-American art earned a royal endorsement when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — hosted “ An Evening of Art ” on Thursday, March 21, honoring The Kinsey African American Art and History Collection at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, where the exhibit debuted during Super Bowl LVI 2022. Last month’s event was the result of a partnership between the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation and The Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Foundation for Art and Education.

The award-winning and traveling collection, lauded as “one of the most extensive holdings of African-American art artifacts, and documents,” was curated by Khalil Kinsey.

Per a release on the Archewell Foundation website: “The Duke and Duchess joined guests on a private tour of the exhibit, which was followed by a moderated conversation with Bernard, Shirley and Khalil Kinsey, trailblazers in the art and philanthropy community who have dedicated their lives to uplifting and celebrating prolific art and culture in the context of Black America.”

In attendance at the intimate event were several well-known faces, including Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. Ragland was seen posing with another famous matriarch, Tina Knowles, in an Instagram gallery posted by The Kinsey Collection . Actor and Mansa Mix founder David Oyelowo was also in attendance, accompanied by his eldest son, musician Asher Yelo.

The group viewed works dating from 1595 to the present day, including selections by Jacob Lawrence , Ernie Barnes and contemporary quilt artist Bisa Butler. Making her own artistic statement, Markle was spotted wearing a hand-embroidered capelet jacket and trousers by Carolina Herrera.

“The Kinsey family was honored to partner with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” the collection’s post read, in part, further sharing that “Chief Curator Khalil Kinsey toured the Duke and Duchess, and an array of industry leaders around the exhibition.” During the discussion that followed, moderated by Christine Messineo, director of Frieze LA and NY, “the group discussed the history and significance of Black art and how various communities can work together to preserve this vital piece of American history.”

“The work that we do is an agent to support new information that nourishes and that helps you evolve,” Kinsey explained in a 2023 interview with Flaunt magazine . “I think in America as a whole, we are operating with a very small fraction of information that stunts our growth.”

The Kinsey Collection closed at Sofi Stadium on March 31; works from the collection are now on view at the Holocaust Museum Houston through June 23.
