What to See and Do in the Land of Natural Beauty

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Uttarakhand, bordered by Nepal and Tibet, and shadowed by towering Himalayan peaks, is full of unspoiled natural beauty. It's divided into two regions—Garhwal in the north, and Kumaon in the south. Ancient holy places, mountains, forests and valleys, and an abundance of trekking options are some of the attractions that make travel to Uttarakhand worthwhile. Check out these top tourist places in Uttarakhand for inspiration.

Uttarakhand is also an excellent place to get off the beaten track. If you're looking for fresh air and tranquility, you'll love some of these boutique Himalayan getaways .

Jim Corbett National Park

One of India's most popular national parks , Jim Corbett National Park is named after hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett. It has dense forest and an array of wildlife, although tiger sightings aren't as common as some other places in India. The park can be explored by jeep or elephant safaris, which take place daily in the early mornings and afternoons. The Dhikala zone of the park is the most panoramic, with stunning valley views. It offers the best chance of animal sightings (which are unfortunately sometimes disappointing). If you're lucky, you might spot wild elephants.

  • Location: About five hours drive northeast of Delhi.

Ancient Haridwar (the "Gateway to God") is one of the seven holiest places in India, and one of the oldest living cities. Located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, it's particularly popular with Hindu pilgrims who come to take a dip in the holy waters of the fast flowing Ganges River and wash away their sins. The evening Ganga Aarti holds a special appeal.

Rishikesh, located not far from Haridwar, is as popular with western spiritual seekers as Haridwar is with Hindu pilgrims. Known as the birthplace of yoga, people flock there to meditate, do yoga, and learn about other aspects of Hinduism in the various ashrams and yoga institutes. Despite the growing number of visitors, the town's lanes and alleys retain an old-world charm. It remains a wonderful place to relax and unwind among nature.

  • Location: 40 minutes drive northeast of Haridwar.
  • Check Out Current Rishikesh Hotel Deals on Tripadvisor and Save

The hill settlement of Nainital, in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, was a popular summer retreat for the British during the time they ruled India. It features emerald colored Nainital (Naini) Lake and an action-filled strip called The Mall, lined with restaurants, shops, hotels, and markets. Enjoy one of the many forest walks, explore the surrounding area on horseback, or relax on a boat in the lake. This destination gets very crowded during summers, especially on weekends, due to its proximity to Delhi. Around Nainital, you'll find Jeolikote, Bhimtal, Ramgarh and Mukteshwar which are all less developed and quieter places to stay.

  • Location: About 6.5 hours drive east of Delhi.
  • Check Out Current Nainital Hotel Deals on Tripadvisor and Save

Mussoorie is another popular weekend destination for north Indians, as well as honeymooners. One of the main reasons for this is because it has a lot of facilities developed especially for tourists. Take a cable car to Gun Hill, enjoy a beautiful nature walk along Camel's Back Road, have a picnic at Kempty Falls, or ride a horse up to Lal Tibba (the highest peak in Mussoorie). Mussoorie also offers a superb view of the Himalayas. If you're looking for a quieter alternative nearby, check out Landour.

  • Location: About six hours drive north of Delhi and an hour from Dehradun (Uttarakhand's capital). IRCTC offers a convenient two-night weekend rail tour package from Delhi to Mussoorie.
  • Check Out Current Mussoorie Hotel Deals on Tripadvisor and Save

Almora, now the capital of the Kumaon region, was established as the summer capital of Chand kings in 1560. It attracts its share of foreigners who head to nearby Kasar Devi Temple, where Swami Vivekananda meditated. There are some chilled out places to stay in the area, such as Kasar Rainbow Resort and Mohan's Binsar Retreat,  as well as inexpensive guesthouses with private cottages just outside Almora town. Around Almora, you'll find the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kausani (where Gandhi spent time writing his  Bhagavad Gita  treatise), Ranikhet and the Jageshwar temple complex.

  • Location: About nine hours drive northeast of Delhi.

Valley of Flowers National Park

The remarkable landscape of The Valley of Flowers National Park in the Garhwal region comes alive with the monsoon rain. This high-altitude Himalayan valley has around 300 different varieties of alpine flowers, which appear as a bright carpet of color against a mountainous snow-capped background. It's a popular trekking destination, open from the start of June until the end of October.

  • Location: About 15 hours drive northeast of Delhi, plus a trek.

Located high up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, the Char Dham (four temples) mark the spiritual source of four holy rivers: the Yamuna (at Yamunotri), the Ganges (at Gangotri), the Mandakini (at Kedarnath), and the Alaknanda (at Badrinath ). Hindus consider a pilgrimage to the Char Dham to be very auspicious. Not only is it believed to wash away all sins, but it will also ensure release from the cycle of birth and death.

Uttarakhand even has a skiing destination! Auli lies on the way to Badrinath and has a three-kilometer long slope, gondola, chairlift, and Poma ski lift. For skiing, conditions are best from the last week of January to the first week of March. However, it's dependent on good snowfall, which is variable. If you're into trekking, the Kuari Pass trailhead is at Auli. This trek, which passes through Nanda Devi National Park, is one of the state's best and most accessible. Thrillophilia offers six-day guided trips from Haridwar . There are many other hiking trails around too.

Accommodation options in Auli are scarce but Devi Darshan Lodge is recommended if you don't stay at the popular government-run Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Hotel (which offers ski programs). Alternatively, the Himalayan Abode Homestay near Joshimath is excellent, and the host is a skiing and snowboarding champion and coach. Another good option is Himalayan Eco Lodge .

  • Location: About 13 hours drive northeast of Delhi, near Joshimath.

Magical Munsiyari, a small town surrounded by towering mountains in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, is paradise for mountaineers and trekkers. Blazing sunsets create a stunning backdrop of color-stained peaks there. However, the hiking and trekking routes are the biggest draws. Munsiyari is the base for the challenging nine-day Milam Glacier Trek , and the much easier two- to three-hour trek to Khalia Top is another attraction. The Tribal Heritage Museum, filled with artifacts from Munsiyari's trade with Tibet on the ancient salt route, is also worth seeing. Milam Inn , albeit basic, is the best place to stay in Munsiyari and it offers fabulous mountain views from the guest rooms.

  • Location: About 16 hours drive northeast of Delhi.

Not to be confused with the Chopta Valley in Sikkim, Chopta lies between Kedarnath and Badrinath in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, at the entry to Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. It attracts travelers who want to enjoy the great outdoors away from the crowds and development. Chopta is the starting point for treks to Tungnath temple (open from June to September) and Chandrashila summit. It's a short, yet scenic, moderate trek that can be completed in a day. Notably, the temple is the world's highest Shiva temple. Thrillophilia offers four-day guided trips from Haridwar.

  • Location: About 10 hours drive northeast of Delhi, via Rishikesh.

It's likely that you've never heard of Kalap, a tiny remote village that's only accessible by foot, 7,500 feet above sea level in the upper Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. That's because it's totally off the tourist map. A responsible tourism project was established there in 2013 to help improve the livelihoods of the villagers. Kalap is an outstanding place to get away from it all and experience the simplicity of village life or go trekking along trails followed by nomadic shepherds.

  • Location: About six hours north of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Best Time To Visit Uttarakhand

Best time to visit in uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand is one of India’s leading tourist destinations, with alluring landscapes, beautiful cities and numerous pilgrimage sites. Uttarakhand has tourists coming all through the year from across India and all corners of the globe. March to April and September to October are considered as the best time to visit Uttarakhand. The state has wonderful weather all through the year. Trekking, Paragliding and The Char Dham Yatra are the most popular activities during Summer, which is also the Peak Season in Uttarakhand. Winters from November through February are perfect for rafting in Rishikesh and wildlife spotting in Jim Corbett National Park. Valley of Flowers is picture perfect during monsoon.

Uttarakhand is the land of the awe-inspiring Himalayas. Who can say no to this land of majestic snow-capped peaks, exotic hill stations and unending green jungles? Together, these offer you pleasant weather throughout the year, with slight variation in temperature from day to night, or even between seasons. Most of the state’s income comes from tourism and thus Uttarakhand keeps its gates open to all visitors all months of the year.

Summers in Uttarakhand are cold and pleasant, making daytimes perfect for sightseeing and walking about. Plan your summer vacation to Uttarakhand between March and June. The months of winter are icy cold with some regions even receiving moderate to heavy snowfall. This doesn’t cut them off from the rest of the country; on the contrary, this blanket of white turns them into picturesque locales that you just wouldn’t want to leave. October to February is the right time to take a winter break to Uttarakhand. The only time that Uttarakhand is uninviting is during the monsoon. The state receives heavy rainfall in the months of July and August and that can make traveling within the land a little difficult.

Uttarakhand has a lot to offer the eager traveller. You could be travelling alone or with your family, or it could even be a group of friends; you can be sure that your vacation in Uttarakhand will be possibly one of the best holidays of your life.

Peak Season (March-June):

Summer is the best climate to visit Uttarakhand. The weather is pleasant and comfortable, with temperatures not going beyond 35 degree Celsius during the day and never dipping below 20 degree Celsius. Summer brings out the beauty in Uttarakhand and you will find most tourists heading here.

Shoulder Season (October-February):

If you like the cold, then head to Uttarakhand in winter. In fact, we suggest that you head there even if you are not particularly crazy about the cold weather – the beauty of the place will definitely convert you. Bundle up in your woollens to keep yourself well-protected from the low temperatures. Daytime will reach a maximum of 15 degree Celsius and in some places the lowest could go to up to 3 degrees Celsius. If you are lucky, you could experience snowfall too.

Low Season (July-September):

While the rain might seem unwelcoming, it does transform Uttarakhand into a lush-green panorama. The air is fresh and there is a clean look about the place. Be warned; the months of July and August will see Uttarakhand inundated with rain and it can upset your travel plans.

Uttarakhand in Summer (March to June)

Temperature: Avg. of 35 degrees high to 20 degrees low

Weather: Summer brings with it a potpourri of breathtaking natural beauty and there is an unmistakable freshness in Uttarakhand in the summer season. The weather is pleasant and it is always just the right temperature to make a trip here. The chill of winter is gone, the flowers are peeking through and it is time for celebration. The sun feels comforting on your back as you walk through the hills and valleys. Stop to gaze upon the untouched beauty that is brought to you on a platter. Whether you are a trekker or you are visiting Uttarakhand to spend some time with someone special, this is a time for life, beauty and romance.

Significant events: Summer is a time for festivals and celebrations. This is when new seeds are planted and the entire region hopes for a good harvest. The celebration, Bhaitauli, is celebrated between March and April. The women in the house are entrusted the job of planting seeds and by the end of the festival period, called Harela, they harvest the crop. This is also a time for celebrating the bond between a brother and a sister, where the former honours his sister with gifts. Once the month of May hits, the region gears up for the famous Char Dham Yatra. This continues until September. As the name suggests, this trek takes travellers to each of the four spiritual sites of Yamunotri , Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. You can join this trek whether or not you are spiritually inclined, since the trek itself is a beautiful experience.

Why you should visit now: Summer is when the weather is perfect and the landscape simply gorgeous. You can cross-off several must-see places off your bucket list.

Know before you visit: Summer is peak season in Uttarakhand, so there will be many tourists. Book your tickets and reserve accommodation in advance to avoid getting disappointed.

Tips: The weather is pleasant but the sun is still quite harsh. Use a sunblock when you step out.

Uttarakhand in Monsoon (July to September)

Temperature: Avg. of 25 degrees high to 15 degrees low

Weather: When it rains in Uttarakhand, the skies really open up. While this turns the land into a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours, it can get a little inconvenient to move about. More so if you are not particularly fond of the rains. The rain begins in late-June but really picks up speed by July. The next three months drench the Himalayan region with heavy rains that increase the likelihood of landslides and roadblocks.

Significant events: The end of the summer festival of Bhaitauli is called Harela. This is a festival that indicates the beginning of the monsoon and it is celebrated around July-August. On the mythological side, this event commemorates the wedding of Lord Shiva to Parvati.

Why you should visit now: Weather in monsoon of Uttarakhand is perfect for a budget trip. This is a great time since hotels and other tour packages will offer you discounts and lower prices.

Know before you visit: Don’t forget to pack your rain gear – raincoat, umbrella and sturdy walking shoes.

Tips: The heavy downpour can lead to landslides and roadblocks. Be prepared to have your vacation plan thrown out of gear.

Uttarakhand in Winter (October to February)

Temperature: Avg. of 15 degrees high to 3 degrees low

Weather: Weather of Uttarakhand in winter season is the best time to cosy up with someone special. Starting November and going right up to February, is when Uttarakhand sees an influx of honeymooners and young couples. The fine mist hanging about like a delicate veil adds to the romantic mood of the land. Families too can enjoy their winter vacation in Uttarakhand as the weather gives a surreal tranquillity to the land. Whether you want a wonderful hill-station holiday, or whether spirituality beckons or you want to feel one with nature, this is a good place for your winter vacation.

Significant events: If you are in Uttarakhand in the second week of January, you will get to enjoy Makar Sankranti, a festival that celebrates the change of season. People worship the sun at sunrise and prepare a meal of khichdi (rice and pulses cooked with spices) and also til ke laddoo. This is also when the Uttarayani Fair is held at Bageshwar, Ranibagh, and Hanseswari, among other places in Kumaon area. Festivities, large gatherings of devotees and taking a dip in the water of the River Saruya are highlights of the festival.

Basant Panchami heralds the coming of the spring season. Winter is over and it is time to welcome the bright sun. Locals dress up in in yellow clothing, sing and dance, and fill the skies with colourful kites.

Why you should visit now: Wintertime in Uttarakhand layers the already beautiful landscape with a sheer veil of gossamer mist. This season has to be experienced to be truly understood.

Know before you visit: Winter is also peak season for tourists in Uttarakhand. Book tickets in advance and make sure you confirm your reservation before heading over.

Tips: Carry plenty of woollens. When it gets cold it gets biting cold here. If it snows, you will also need the right walking gear to enjoy the land.

"The right kind of Busy"

Weather and best time to visit.

Uttarakhand is a destination to be visited all through the year as each season has something special to offer. The best time to explore the destination is during the summer season as climate conditions remain comfortable. Its summers (March-June) are pleasant and a great time to soak in the scenic beauty and embark on adventures. Tourists can also plan to travel to the place during winters, although, certain areas become inaccessible during this time due to heavy snowfall. So, if you enjoy the cold, this is a beautiful time to visit the state. From July to September the state of Uttarakhand experiences monsoon. This time of year is not considered as the idyllic season as compared to other two seasons. The reason for this is that the place witnesses heavy rainfall in these months. But, Monsoon in Uttarakhand is refreshing. One can enjoy to the fullest, the lush greenery and the natural beauty of destinations like Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, Lansdowne, Mukteshwar and Pangot will makes you relax and enjoy like never before.

Summer (March – June):

Arguably the best time to visit Uttarakhand, the temperature is at pleasant average throughout this season, making it a heaven for pilgrims, wildlife and nature lovers as well as adventure sport enthusiasts. Summers are counted as favourable to plan a trip to Uttarakhand. The temperature in summer season varies from 20°C to 35°C.

Winter (October – February):

With temperatures dropping to sub-zero levels, parts of the state are inclined to receive heavy snowfall during these months due to its geographic location. The winter season in Uttarakhand is quite cold and the season lasts from October to March. Snowfall is quite common especially in the upper regions of Uttarakhand. Tourists are advised to pack in their woolens if they make a plan to explore Uttarakhand in the winters.

Monsoon (March – September):

Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rainfall almost every monsoon season. The rainy season is not a very pleasant phase in Uttarakhand as the hilly parts are particularly prone to landslides. Caution is advised to visitors travelling to Uttarakhand during the monsoon.

Climate in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand experiences 3 major seasons; summers, winters and monsoon. The climate of the region is also dependent on geographical divisions which consist of hilly terrains which are predominant and the plains, which are the smaller. However just as a visit to the lower regions of Uttarakhand is advisable in the winter, the higher areas are best visited in the summer. Many tourists now visit the state during winter to enjoy snowfall.  Auli is a major winter attraction thanks to its smooth ski-slopes.

Why Visit Uttarakhand

Ancient holy places, mountains, forests and valleys, and an abundance of trekking options are some of the attractions that make travel to Uttarakhand worthwhile.

Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is a place of myth and mountains. Hindus think of it as Dev Bhoomi – the Land of Gods – and the dramatic terrain is covered with holy peaks, lakes and rivers. Twisting roads and high-altitude hiking trails lead to spectacular pilgrimage sites where tales from Hindu epics are set. Though the presence of Shiva and Parvati (in a few of her forms) tower over the state, the imprint of British colonialism is equally apparent: the legend of hunter Jim Corbett lives on in the famed tiger reserve that bears his name; popular holiday towns were once Raj-era hill stations; and the Beatles turned Rishikesh into a magnet for spiritual seekers and yoga practitioners worldwide.

The Best Time To Visit Uttarakhand: Weather, Crowds, and Events

Uttarakhand, the northern state of India, is a land of breathtaking beauty, serene spirituality, and an abundance of adventure opportunities. From the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the lush green valleys, Uttarakhand offers something for every kind of traveler. However, when it comes to planning a trip to Uttarakhand, the question that often arises is, when is the best time to visit Uttarakhand?

To answer that question, let’s take a closer look at Uttarakhand’s weather, crowds, and events throughout the year.

The weather in Uttarakhand varies significantly based on the altitude and the season. The state has three distinct seasons – summer, monsoon, and winter.

  • Summer (April to June)

Summer in Uttarakhand is a magical time when the state comes alive with lush greenery, blooming flowers, and various outdoor activities. The season begins in April and lasts until June, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. The weather in Uttarakhand during summer is pleasant and comfortable, making it the perfect time to explore the outdoors. The days are warm while the nights are cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 15°C. The higher altitude regions like Nainital and Mussoorie may experience slightly cooler temperatures, making it a perfect escape from the heat and humidity of the plains.

Summer is the perfect time to indulge in adventure sports like trekking, camping, and river rafting. Uttarakhand has several beautiful trekking routes, including the Valley of Flowers Trek, Roopkund Trek, and Kedarkantha Trek. Camping is another popular activity in Uttarakhand during the summer season. From the banks of the Ganges to the hills of Mussoorie, there are several camping sites that offer a peaceful retreat amidst nature. River rafting is another adventure sport that attracts tourists to Uttarakhand during summer.

Summer is also the perfect time to explore the popular tourist destinations in Uttarakhand. The hill stations of Nainital, Mussoorie, and Ranikhet offer a cool escape from the heat of the plains. The Jim Corbett National Park, located in the foothills of the Himalayas, is another popular tourist destination that attracts wildlife enthusiasts during summer.

  • Monsoon (July to September)

Monsoon in Uttarakhand starts in July and lasts until September, bringing with it heavy rainfall and lush greenery. The season transforms Uttarakhand into a green paradise, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. The monsoon season in Uttarakhand is characterized by heavy rainfall, with an average of 900 mm of rainfall in July and August. The temperature during the season ranges from 15°C to 25°C, providing relief from the scorching heat of the summer season. The higher altitude regions like Mussoorie and Nainital experience slightly cooler temperatures, making it an ideal destination to escape the humidity of the plains.

Monsoon in Uttarakhand can also make travel challenging due to landslides and roadblocks. The hilly terrain of Uttarakhand makes it prone to landslides during heavy rainfall. The roads connecting different parts of the state can get blocked due to landslides, making travel difficult. Therefore, it is important to plan your travel itinerary accordingly and keep a buffer day in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

The forests of Rajaji National Park and Jim Corbett National Park are in full bloom during the monsoon season, making it an ideal time for wildlife enthusiasts to visit. It is also a good time for trekking and camping. The treks to Har ki Dun, Dayara Bugyal, and Kedarnath offer breathtaking views of the valleys and the snow-capped peaks. The camping sites in Chopta, Kanatal, and Dhanaulti offer a peaceful retreat amidst nature.

Uttarakhand is also known for its spiritual tourism, and monsoon is the perfect time to visit the state’s numerous pilgrimage sites. The Char Dham Yatra, which includes visits to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, is considered to be one of the most significant pilgrimages for Hindus. The Hemkund Sahib, located in the Himalayas, is another popular pilgrimage site that attracts thousands of visitors during the monsoon season.

  • Winter (October to March)

Winter in Uttarakhand starts in October and lasts until March, bringing with it chilly weather and occasional snowfall in higher altitudes. The season offers a different experience altogether from the other seasons in Uttarakhand, making it a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts and winter sports lovers. Winter in Uttarakhand is characterized by chilly weather, with temperatures ranging from 0°C to 15°C in the lower altitudes. The higher altitudes like Auli, Munsiyari, and Joshimath receive heavy snowfall, making it an ideal destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The snow-covered peaks, valleys, and forests offer breathtaking views.

Winter in Uttarakhand is a perfect time for winter sports, with skiing and snowboarding being the most popular activities. The ski resorts in Auli, located at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level, offer some of the best skiing experiences in India. The slopes of Auli are covered with snow from December to March, making it an ideal destination for skiing enthusiasts. Other popular skiing destinations in Uttarakhand include Munsiyari, Dayara Bugyal, and Mundali.

The crowd in Uttarakhand varies significantly based on the season. Let’s take a look at the tourist footfall in Uttarakhand throughout the year.

Summer in Uttarakhand is the busiest time of the year, with a huge influx of tourists from across the country and the world. The hill stations like Mussoorie, Nainital, and Ranikhet see a surge in visitors during this time, with hotels and resorts running at full capacity. The popular tourist destinations like Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun are also crowded with tourists during the summer season.

The heavy influx of tourists during summer can significantly impact travel in Uttarakhand. The roads leading to popular tourist destinations can be congested, leading to traffic jams and delays. Best Time to Visit Uttarakhand

Weather Conditions in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is a trekkers’ paradise, motorcyclists’ haven, and spiritual seekers’ home. The rugged mountains, with snow clad peaks, descend sharply into lush green valleys, and overflowing rivers. Uttarakhand is an Indian state that is situated in northern India. Some of the biggest attractions and places are Rishikesh, Nainital, Haridwar, and Jim Corbett National Park. So, when is the best time to travel to Uttarakhand for sightseeing, relaxation, exploration, and introspection?

The best time to visit Uttarakhand is centred on the activities and your itinerary. Let us narrow down on the appropriate weather, and month, for your trip to this nature-filled state.

Winter in Uttarakhand

From October to February the weather freezes over. High in the mountains, you can expect snowfall as the temperature falls below freezing point. The days are warm and pleasant, at around 20 °C. But as the sun sets, the cold takes over the state, reaching 6 °C.

This is when the winter activities kick in. Skiing at Auli, trekking at Chopta, snowboarding at Munsiyari, and visiting the Jim Corbett National Park. The other places worth visiting include Dehradun, Mussoorie, Chaukori, Binsar, Ranikhet, and Khirsu. This is the best time to visit Uttarakhand to enjoy the cool weather and some winter sports.

Summer in Uttarakhand

When most of India is sizzling at 40 °C, Uttarakhand is waltzing in the shy warmth of the sun. From March to June the mercury never goes beyond 40 °C. The weather is pleasant, and it is the best time to go to Uttarakhand. The temperature ranges from 20 to 32 °C during these months, which sends out a welcoming vibe. Tourists flock to Almora, Lansdowne, Kausani, Harsil, Mukteshwar, Chakrata, and Pauri Garhwal. The lakes are azure, the trees are blossoming with life, and the vistas mesmerise you, taking away the stress.

Monsoon in Uttarakhand

The rainy season spans over three months – July to September. This is the wettest and most humid season for Uttarakhand. The state receives heavy showers, which makes it dangerous to drive the winding roads (in the hilly regions). There are chances of flooding and landslides at certain areas as well. It is recommended to avoid visiting the state during the monsoon season.

However, if you are looking for an escape, then Kanatal is a beautiful and safe destination. There are provisions for water and aerial activities. The setting is romantic, even more so when it rains. It may not be the best time to visit Uttarakhand, but an ideal time to visit Kanatal.

Best Time to Visit Uttarakhand, India

The best time to visit Uttarakhand, nestled in the northern part of India, largely depends on the type of experience you're looking for. Generally, March to April and September to October are considered ideal for most tourist activities. These months mark the transition between the harsh winter and the torrential monsoon, offering a pleasant climate suitable for sightseeing, adventure sports, and wildlife expeditions. The temperatures during these months are moderate, making it perfect for exploring the natural beauty, including flowering valleys and serene lakes. This is also an excellent time for trekkers to embark on trails to the Valley of Flowers or the Char Dham pilgrimage.

For those interested in experiencing snowfall, the winter months of November to February are the ideal time to visit destinations like Auli, which is famous for skiing. However, it's important to note that some areas in the higher altitudes may be inaccessible during this period due to heavy snowfall. Conversely, the summer months of May to June offer respite from the heat of the plains, with hill stations like Mussoorie and Nainital providing cool retreats. The monsoon months, from July to August, are generally avoided due to the risk of landslides and floods, but the rains also bring out the lush greenery of the state, making scenic drives and walks very picturesque, albeit a bit risky.

7 Day Uttarakhand Road Trip Itinerary

7 Day Uttarakhand Road Trip Itinerary

The Best of Uttarakhand in One Week

Uttarakhand Tourism saw a sharp rise in popularity the last couple of years. This northern state in India is a cornucopia of many hill stations and tourist attractions. There is so much to do and so much to see as Uttarakhand is blessed with natural beauty – jungles, rivers, snow-clad mountains and an inherent sense of divinity. The state is also called “Devbhumi” (“The Land of the Gods”) as it is home to many highly revered shrines like  Badrinath, Kedarnath  and so many others. And then there is offbeat Uttarakhand that we keep exploring whenever we can find an opportunity.

It can take a whole book to write about what are the best things to do in Uttarakhand . But that is for another day. Here is our humble attempt to create an Uttarakhand guide about what all can you do in 7 days, through this 7 Day Uttarakhand Travel Itinerary and Guide . We have tried to include destinations that you can reach within 6-7 hours of journey from each other.

  • How to reach Uttarakhand

The best way to reach Uttarakhand from any part of the world is by starting from Delhi. Delhi is very well-connected with Uttarakhand via road, rail and air. Though there are 5 airports in Uttarakhand, you may or may not get a direct flight. Once you are in Delhi, you can opt for road transport like a rented cab, bus or a self driven car. From our experience, Uttarakhand road trips are most convenient to reach some of the offbeat places.

Day 1 – Delhi to Haridwar

Day 2 – haridwar to mussoorie, day 3 – mussoorie to chakrata, day 4 – chakrata to lansdowne, day 5 – lansdowne to nainital, day 6 – kausani day trip, day 7 – nainital to jim corbett national park , day 8 – back to delhi, 7 day uttarakhand road trip itinerary – summary, share this:.

Haridwar is famous for River Ganges. It is a temple town in Uttarakhand and is famous for its Ganga Aarti that is performed every morning and evening. One can cover the 200 kms odd strech from Delhi to Haridwar within 5 hours and the road condition is good. The stretch is full of eating options like  dhabas , hotels and cafes. The good part is Haridwar is in the Himalayan foothills so one can expect decent weather.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Things to do in Haridwar include Ganga Aarti  especially in the evening. It’s a spectacle like no other. Thousands of devotees gather around the river banks to offer prayers to Goddess Ganga. Priests with lamps in their hands chant mantras and the atmosphere looks blissful. There are myriad temples in Haridwar each with a different story. You can also visit Rishikesh from Haridwar which is barely 45 minutes drive and there are some famous temples and ashram in Rishikesh. The famous Beatles Ashram is also in Rishikesh. One can opt for hourly meditation and spa sessions in Rishikesh as well. This zone is also the most popular water rafting zone in North India.

Haridwar to Mussoorie is around 85kms and is not more than a 3 hours drive. Mussoorie is also called the “Queen of Hills” and hence from Day 2 your trip is going to be mostly on high terrain. Mussoorie is immensely popular with tourists because of many reasons. For one, Mussoorie has great weather throughout the year. Further, it has access to all sorts of hotel options from basic to luxury, from family friendly places to hostels and dormitories. Thirdly, this place has fantastic connectivity to other locations in Uttarakhand.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Things to do in Mussoorie include pottering down the famous Mall Road , trekking to Char Dukan , St Paul’s Church and early morning walk to camel’s back point. While trekking, do look out for antique and cobbler shops that make handmade shoes on order. A visit to hill resort Rockby’s Manor and savouring cheese omelette at Lovely Omelette Shop are also highly recommended. You may shop for souvenirs from the Mall Road of Mussoorie. It is full of gift options for all tastes and budgets.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

You will drive 100kms and reach Chakrata in a span of 3 hours  from Mussoorie and see a completely different side of Uttarakhand here. While Mussoorie is extremely touristy, Chakrata is quite the opposite. It is an offbeat place and you may not see many tourists here. But it is breathtakingly beautiful and has retained its tranquillity. Chakrata is less explored but there are also many things one can do here in addition to soaking in the natural beauty. The most popular activity here is to visit Tiger Falls. These falls create sounds of roaring tigers when water drops from top of the hill to the pond at the bottom. It is a perfect picnic spot and you can frolic in the water. Apart from the waterfalls one can also visit  Mahsu Temple and Budher Caves.

For adventure lovers there are arrangements for water rappelling at Kimona Falls.

Start the day early and within 6-7 hours of driving from Chakrata, covering around 250 kms, you will reach Lansdowne, a sleepy hill station in Uttarakhand. Lansdowne is essentially a Cantonment Town, and is home to the eilte  Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army and hence you can expect peace, cleanliness and order. It is one of our most favorite places in Uttarakhand, no wonder we have visited it many times.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Things to do in Lansdowne include visiting Bulla Taal , a manmade lake which almost looks like a set from Indiana Jones movie, St Mary’s Church and trek up to Tiffin Top . We would highly recommend doing all these things by foot. All these things are under one hour trekking from each other and you will be able to absorb the beauty of Lansdowne better. Don’t forget to savour the famous chocolate  burfi  and Baal Mithai  – the specialty desserts of this region . We bet you will get these packed for friends and family.

A 6-7 hour drive covering around 250 kms will take you from Lansdowne to Nainital , which is perhaps the busiest hill station in Uttarakhand. Just like Mussoorie, Nainital also gets tourists all through the year. Summer vacations are the peak season in Nainital and if you don’t like crowds you should avoid holiday months for visiting this place. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful hill station any day.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

The Naini Lake surrounded by green mountains is the heart of this place. Boating in Naini Lake is just one of the things to do here. Apart from this, you can visit the Naina Devi Temple , enjoy cable car rides and visit Eco Caves Garden . The Mall Road is a perfect place for shopping. Look out for hand carved wax candles here. This is a local handicraft and the candles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We would also highly recommend breakfast and bakery items at The Sakleys, A Mountain Cafe on Mall Road.

Don’t check out from your hotel at Nainital when you start for Kausani the next morning. Kausani can be visited from Nainital and one is advised to come back the same night since there are not many lodging options in Kausani. The driving time from Nainital to Kasauni is less than 4 hours and Kausani will give you a much-needed break from the humdrum of Nainital. Start early in the morning and you can visit Neem Karouli Ashram and  Katarmal Sun Temple on route to Kausani. If you love history, Katarmal Sun Temple may turn out to be a spectacular experience.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Kausani is a quaint little hamlet in Uttarakhand and would be loved by travellers who like peace and solitude. Apart from watching the valley from the binoculars from the highest point here, one must visit Gandhiji’s Anashakti Ashram in Kausani. It is a beautiful ashram cum museum displaying Gandhi memorabilia. Kausani is a perfect place to just be and not do anything. Just be one with nature and be awed by the variety of brightly coloured wild flowers. Start on your way back around sunset and you’ll be in Nainital by dinner time.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Another interesting alternative, is to head out of Nainital, and drive to Bhimtal, an hour away, and check into Fredy’s Bungalow – A Colonial style bungalow , for the night, surrounded by nature, which is perfect for disconnecting and reconnecting with nature. Among the many things that you can do, the best of the lot is to go hiking which also involves plenty of bird watching.

Jim Corbett National Park, the last destination on this 7 Day Uttarakhand Road Trip Itinerary, is barely 2 hours from Nainital and this would be your drive downhill back to the plains. Jim Corbett National Park, which also happens to be one of the Best National Parks in India , is famous for its jungle safari which happens early mornings and evenings. Most of the accommodation here are resorts, such as Aahana Resort and there are barely any standalone restaurants.

It is highly advisable to pre book your jungle safari as the better zones get full very easily. If you are lucky you may see tigers in the jungle but it highly depends on which zone are you in and which month you visit Jim Corbett. Don’t focus too much on tiger sightings and enjoy the deer, nilgai, and host of birds like kingfisher that would surely come your way. The overall safari experience is beautiful.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Apart from jungle safari, one can go for a village tour on foot or on a bicycle that your resort may provide. Since it’s your last day in Uttarakhand we would highly recommend taking it easy and Jim Corbett is a perfect place for that. The place has a very relaxed and laid-back vibe. Being forest area travellers are not advised to venture out in the night. That is the best time to chill in a pool or rejuvenate in a spa inside the resort.

Start after breakfast from Jim Corbett National Park and after a 5 hours drive, you will be in Delhi with your cameras full of beautiful pictures and your hearts full of amazing memories.

Discover The Best Time To Visit Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand For Ultimate Relaxation

Best time to visit pithoragarh, uttarakhand.

In Uttarakhand, India, lies Pithoragarh, which is situated in the eastern part of the Himalayas. This small town is known for its beautiful scenery, ancient temples, and rich cultural heritage. Hence, it could be a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature for all those who seek peace in the mountains. But among all these things, there are still some more important points that need to be mentioned if one wants to fall in love with this place forever. Therefore, we will talk about seasons when it comes to visiting Pithoragarh and try to find out the best time ever spent at such an idyllic destination as this.

Knowing the seasons of Pithoragarh:

Each year has four different seasons in Pithoragarh, each showing a unique side of natural beauty and cultural wealth. All through the year, weather changes create captivating landscapes, from colorful springs to snow-covered winters.

Spring (March May):

The spring season starts from March till May in Pithoragarh when it wakes up after sleep during the winter days, which also marks the beginning of tourist season here. It is a very moderate climate with temperature ranges between 10 C and 25 C (50 F and 77 F), making it good not only for various outdoor activities but also for sightseeing around as well; moreover, nearby forests are full of lush greenery blooming flowers, thus serving as perfect places for slow walks or picnics too. Another great thing about spring is that during this period one can go up to higher altitudes like those offered by Panchachuli peaks or even visit Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple nearby, being aware they won't be covered by snow anymore, as usually happens later.

Summer (June August):

From June till August, summer lasts in Pithoragarh, bringing warmth accompanied sometimes by rain, though the temperature never goes beyond 15 C 30 C (59 F 86 F) during the day while nights remain cool enough. This being the hottest time of year, it attracts the maximum number of tourists who come here to escape from scorching heat plains; therefore, too many activities can be done at such a time, including trekking through hills around or exploring various small villages situated nearby forts that were built centuries ago. You may still visit them now just like any other day, but in addition to that, this period also offers the opportunity witness the nanda devi raj jat yatra once every twelve years, considered sacred pilgrimage by many people.

Autumn (September November):

The most beautiful season among all seasons is autumn, when leaves turn different colors, giving a unique appearance to the entire area until November ends. This time the foliage becomes red, orange, or golden, which looks so nice against the background white peaks. The Himalayas covered with snow throughout the year; moreover, the weather remains chilly enough for outdoor activities like hiking, photography, etc., ranging between 5 C and 20 C (41 F and 68 F), thus making this season best suited for these kinds of things as well as bird watching since many rare birds can be seen migrating through the Pithoragarh region during autumn only. Apart from natural beauty, festivals are also celebrated here, one such popular festival being sharadotsav, where traditional music dances and cultural performances take place.

Winter (December February):

From December to February, winter in Pithoragarh is synonymous with snow. The Himalayas' higher regions, in particular, might witness subzero temperatures. Although it may discourage some visitors, this season has its own allure for anyone who wants isolation amidst the immaculate landscapes of the snowfall district; they can bask in front of a warm bonfire while taking tea or walk through forests covered by white powder. In addition, tradition is still alive during the winters here, so tourists can experience it along with the hospitality of the locals, who greet outsiders warmly with smiles on their faces.

When is the best time to visit Pithoragarh?

Considering the climate and tourist interests, when to plan your trip would depend on what you like best about traveling.

If you love nature and being active outdoors,

Nature enthusiasts and outdoor activities go hand-in-hand; therefore, if this describes you, then it's advisable that one visit Pithoragarh between March and May, also known as spring. This is when flowers bloom everywhere around town, creating beautiful scenery filled with colors; trees are green and full of leaves, providing shade against hot sun rays, which makes perfect conditions for activities such as hiking through hillsides dotted by waterfalls or picnicking, besides clear streams where different birds can be spotted easily.

Should I Use a Travel Agent? Our Travel Expert Says It Makes All the Difference.

The new age of travel agents know how to find deals, book off-the-beaten path adventures, and get you out of any jam. Especially if you know who to use.

I’ve always thought that planning my own trips was the most cost-effective way, but I’ve been hearing more about travel agents making a comeback and saving their clients a lot of money. What kinds of outdoor trips should I turn to a travel agent for, and are there any who specialize in working with adventurers like me?

Technically, I’m a professional traveler. As a journalist, it’s my job to research and connect with locals to get beneath the surface of a destination. So I have never really used travel agents. What could they plan better than I could?

A lot, it turns out. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know many travel specialists, and I consider them magicians. My big aha moment happened two winters ago on a trip to Iceland . A massive storm shut down internal flights for a day, causing me to miss my return flight to the U.S. Normally, I would have spent frustrating hours on hold with the airline. But because I’d paid $65 to have Ana Gloria Garcia, an air-support specialist at the travel agency EmbarkBeyond, find and book the most affordable and convenient flight option for me, she handled the rebookings while I soaked in the Blue Lagoon.

A woman soaks in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon.

During the pandemic, agents became advocates helping travelers get refunds on canceled flights and trips. As travel has come roaring back, an agent’s superpower is now their access to the best hotel rooms, most in-the-know guides, free amenities, and more, says Cory Hagopian, senior vice president of sales and partnerships for Virtuoso , a global network of travel agencies.

And they’re attracting a young clientele. According to a recent industry survey , 38 percent of millennials and Gen Zers are opting to use travel agents as opposed to booking on their own trips. That number is far greater than Gen Xers and baby boomers, of whom only 12 and 2 percent respectively use agents.

What Do I Gain from Using a Travel Agent?

I recently had a friend tell me she spent close to 40 hours researching a family trip online. She probably could have gleaned the same intel from an hourlong conversation with a travel adviser. Knowledge is priceless, and advisers act as your insiders. They know what you don’t and fill in the blanks for things you might not have considered, says Erika Richter, a spokesperson for the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). Their firsthand knowledge, vast network, and on-the-ground connections all combine to provide a unique perspective for crafting the perfect itinerary for you.

Kayak, paddle, raft—a river trip down Costa Rica’s Pacuare is good fun. And Danielle Meyer of Coastline Travel likes to book clients in the riverfront, all-inclusive, 20-suite Pacuare Lodge. “The way to get to the property is by whitewater rafting, so you truly begin with adventure!”

Most travel advisers specialize in certain regions and countries and travel to them frequently, so they have up-to-date intel on not only the best safari camps but the perfect tent to book for the most incredible views and the best local restaurants you won’t find on Tripadvisor. They want their client’s trips to go well to keep them coming back, so it’s in their interest to have sussed out hotels and itineraries before they send you out into the world.

Nicole Forster, 29, considers herself a savvy traveler. She’s been to 20-plus countries and enjoys destination research. But when it came to planning her honeymoon in Africa, she felt overwhelmed, so she reached out to Danielle Meyer at Coastline Travel Advisors , which specializes in bespoke itineraries. “Originally, I wanted to go to South Africa, Victoria Falls, and Madagascar,” Forster recalls. “Danielle convinced me that if we wanted to relax, we should stay in South Africa and save the other countries for separate trips.”

Over five phone conversations and multiple emails, they crafted a 15-night itinerary that included Cape Town, the winelands, the Cape Peninsula, and a safari at the Thornybush Game Reserve. Forster established her budget early in the process, and Meyer sent her a variety of lodge options to choose from.

“I initially wanted to start with the safari, but she pointed out that we’d be jet-lagged and would need to wake at sunrise for game drives,” says Forster. “The safari was our highlight, so it was a perfect way to end the trip.”

A man sitting in an open-air vehicle while on safari in South Africa smiles at the camera while an elephant is just over his shoulder, approaching.

Not only did Meyer book all of the flights, hotels, and transfers, but she created a detailed, day-by-day trip app for the couple that included useful information like check-in times at hotels and how much to tip guides .

Agents also act as advocates. If something goes wrong during your travels, they’re on call 24/7 to handle it. When Forster left the battery and charger for her camera at a hotel, Meyer arranged for an on-the-ground contact to go to a camera store and buy new ones that would be delivered to her hotel the next day.

The cost for the honeymoon planning: $150 per person. “I wouldn’t use a planner for a trip to Hawaii ,” Forster says, “but if I ever took a big trip like this again, I’d 100 percent work with an expert.”

When to Consider Using a Travel Agent

For savvy trip planners, the best time to use a travel agent is for complicated international travel. It can save you hours of planning and peace of mind that if anything goes wrong in your chosen far-flung destination, there’s someone a What’sApp message away to handle it.

Domestically, I’d consider using a travel agent when planning a multi-week national park trip or multi-island trip in Hawaii. They will save you time, guarantee you get the best guides, and help you land reservations at always-booked lodges and hotels.

Dream Trips Delivered

Jessica Cook and her husband both work in the travel industry. Decision fatigued, they handed their honeymoon logistics over to the team at Askari Travel , an agency that specializes in South Africa. Their original plan was also an African safari, but just as they were about to put a deposit down, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus made headlines. Worried about getting stuck abroad, they reached out to Askari’s founder, Muriel Truter, who is from Zimbabwe, and upon her advice, changed their focus to South America.

Knowledge is priceless, and advisers act as your insiders. They know what you don’t and fill in the blanks of things you might not even have considered.

Truter suggested they stick to Colombia rather than country-hop. Cook supplied a budget and a wish list: 12 days, no more than three destinations, a barefoot-luxe feel, and adventures like horseback riding and mountain biking. The rest was a surprise that Askari pretty much nailed, with the exception of one hotel.

“Everything felt so authentic, but this one hotel on Barú island felt really fabricated and was full of American tourists,” recalls Cook. She immediately messaged the Askari team, saying, “Hey, this place really isn’t our vibe,” and within an hour they were on a water taxi headed to Blue Apple, a B Corp hotel—and an Outside pick for tropical adventures —on Tierra Bomba island. “It was honestly the best trip we’ve ever taken,” she says.

Tierra Bomba, a 15-minute boat ride from the Colombian capital of Cartagena, is an affordable Caribbean destination with a relaxed pace and soft white sands.

Are Travel Agents Expensive?

It depends. Cost varies. Some travel agencies won’t charge any fee, as they receive a commission from the bookings, while some high-end agencies will charge pricey annual membership fees for their services. Still others charge nominal “professional” fees starting at $150. Fees often fluctuate based on the length and intricacy of a trip and how far out you do the planning (6 to 12 months is recommended). You may occasionally come across agents who charge a percentage of the total trip price or hourly rates.

Basic travel enquiries are generally free. In 2016, Leah Smith, founder of Tafari Travel , opened an old-school brick-and-mortar location in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood so her services would feel less intimidating to first-time users. “With our retail-office location, we’ve become part of the community, and both clients and non-clients are welcome to pop in and ask whatever questions they may have, no charge,” she says.

Matt Lindsay, founder of the surf-guiding and travel company LuxSurf Travel , builds relationships with resorts and property owners to get discounted rates that he can then pass on to guests.

Matt Lindsey of LuxeSurfTravel can arrange a surf safari on a 165-foot boat, complete with dive masters. surf guides, and a spa. Guests spend a week cruising around atolls in the Maldives seeking out perfect swell and swimming with whale sharks and manta rays.

Dominic Allan, the founder of Real Latin America , specializes in travel to Belize and Nicaragua and caters to independent travelers who are happy to book their own flights and hotels but are seeking his local intel. Allan’s three-tier pricing structure starts at $300 for up to three hours of phone calls, during which he might weigh in on where to eat (or not to), the best room to request in a certain lodge, or whether you really need a guide to hike.

”Totoro Eco-Lodge, in Nicaragua, has always been one of our favorites,” says Dominic Allen of Real Latin America. In addition to its laid-back vibe, it’s spectacuarly placed on Ometepe Island, with views out to the active Conception volcano. Allen recommends volcano hikes, rainforest excursions, tours of a chocolate farm, and sunset paddles in search of caiman.

Value Versus Savings

If you’re just looking for deals and steals, you might not be ready to work with a travel adviser, says Richter of the ASTA. “Anything you invest in with a travel adviser comes back to you in the form of amenities, customer service, peace of mind, better access to unique experiences, and handcrafted itineraries,” she says. “You could save money by cutting your own hair, too, but most people go to someone who knows what they’re doing.”

Agents work with preferred partners who can guarantee perks for clients, such as free upgrades, early check-in or late check-out, and resort credits. Those add-ons often translate into savings, says Justin Huxter, cofounder of the UK-based Cartology Travel . “We had a client go to Maui for a week, and because of our partnership with the resort, breakfast was included,” he says. When breakfast costs $120 for two, that’s a savings of $840.”

A meerkat sits atop a man wearing a ball cap and scans the horizon of Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans.

Some of the Best Travel Agents in the Adventure World

Some of my go-to resources for finding a person to work with include travel expert Wendy Perrin’s annual Wow List of tried and trusted agents, the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s adviser network , and the ASTA’s advisor directory .

In addition to the agents mentioned throughout this story, others I highly recommend for adventurous travelers include:

  • Dan Achber of Trufflepig , for Africa and the Middle East
  • Miguel Cunant of Sri Lanka in Style
  • Javier Echecopar of Journey Costa Rica
  • Daniel Fraser of Smiling Albino , for Southeast Asia
  • Elizabeth Gordon of Extraordinary Journeys , for Africa
  • Kleon Howe of the Art of Travel , for French Polynesia
  • Jay Johnson of Coastline Travel , for Hawaii and California
  • Antonello Losito of Southern Visions Travel , for Puglia, Italy
  • Rabia Malik of Fora Travel , for general worldwide travel
  • Robyn Mark of Mayamaya Travel , for Africa, the Alps, Patagonia, and Japan
  • Marisol Mosquera of Aracari , for Peru and Bolivia
  • Zach Rabinor of Journey Mexico
  • Raluca Spiac of Beyond Dracula , for Romania

The author immersed in the hot waters of Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, with mud on her face. It beats being on the phone trying to reschedule a flight cancellation.

Travel-advice columnist Jen Murphy is now a believer in using a travel agent. Thanks to their expertise and connections, she’s avoided dozens of trip catastrophes.

Uttarakhand Aims To Become India's Premier Destination For Astro-Tourism

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Kumar Utkarsh Updated: May 06, 2024 12:19 PM IST

Discover Why Uttarakhand is the Next Big Thing in Astro-Tourism

Located in the Himalayas, Uttarakhand is reaching for the stars as it looks to become India's premier hub for astro-tourism. With abundant natural beauty and excellent stargazing conditions easily accessible from major cities, the state could attract visitors who want to look up.

1.A Union Born Amongst The Stars

To harness Uttarakhand's potential as a destination for star-gazers, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board has partnered with Starscapes, an astro-tourism company, to launch Nakshatra Sabha (Star Convention). This initiative will offer multi-faceted experiences including star gazing, observations of solar activities like sunspots and auroras, astrophotography competitions and camping under starlit skies.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

"We are very excited about Uttarakhand emerging as India's number one place for astro-tourism," said the state government Secretary of Tourism. "We have a wealth of beauty offered by nature itself combined with being close enough to major urban centers such as Delhi or Dehradun while having strong hospitality infrastructure already present in our region; we believe that with Starscape's knowledge this will be achieved through Nakshatra Sabha."

2.Bold Moves To Develop Astro-Tourism

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

Educational seminars led by experts on astronomy followed by webinars enhance understanding during this period which intends creating platforms where enthusiasts gather around appreciating night sky wonders while enjoying what nature has bestowed upon us here at Uttarakhand according to its organizers.

Moreover, apart from being a purely tourism boosting event; Nakshatra Sabha seeks to provide professional training opportunities within the hospitality industry for locals who will benefit economically through this sector as well. Additionally various astro-tourism ambassadors shall be identified and nurtured across different parts of Uttrakhand under the program.

3.Leveraging Uttarakhand's Natural Assets

With more than 70% forest cover, Uttarakhand offers some of the best places in India where one can have good views of celestial objects. Lack of urban sprawl light pollution enables clear skies for astronomical observations while its high altitude mountain locations guarantee an atmosphere conducive enough for starry nights.

uttarakhand tourism best time to visit

The state's status as an adventure tourism destination has also led to adequate accommodation facilities being put up; these range from hotels catering for all types including budget travelers up to luxurious options able to handle higher numbers expected during astro-tourist peak times such as homestays according their official statement released yesterday evening after the launch ceremony ended with fireworks over Mukteshwar temple complex situated atop majestic Himalayan terrain.

Connectivity between Delhi or Dehradun and other major metros via rail, road and air is another advantage that makes it easy for potential visitors from around India if not beyond too come here This according their media representatives who spoke about this topic earlier today morning hours following completion of final preparations made towards successful hosting of this event which saw attendance by delegates coming various parts countrywide looking forward seeing stars fall so close together once again like never before!

4.Keeping The Skies Dark For Longer

Nonetheless, Nakshatra Sabha plans on striking a balance between attracting more tourists while preserving dark skies as per sustainable tourism ideals. The programme hopes to train residents who would act as custodians advocating for protection against light pollution throughout the state thereby serving both purposes at once.

When Is the Best Time to Visit London?

By Sarah James

St James Park London

The English capital is one of the most touristed cities anywhere in the world, with nearly 19 million arrivals in 2023—but when is the best time to visit London? While many choose to travel here during the summer to make the most of the many of the destination's parks, rooftop bars, and outdoor activities, all four seasons have something unique to offer for the traveler heading to London . Below, we break down when to visit for the best weather, the best rates, and more.

A version of this article originally appeared on Condé Nast Traveller UK .

When is the best time to visit London?

When you choose to come to London really depends on what you’re looking for during your trip. If you’re hoping for good weather, a visit during the summer ( June , July, or August) means you’re more likely to see sunny and warm days. (That said, remember that this is Britain : Rain or cooler days are possible even during months that might be more traditionally sunny elsewhere.)

If you want to see the city at its most sparkly and magical, the best time to visit London is during the festive period, between late November and the end of December . The autumnal months of September and October bring with them gorgeous leaves, Sunday roasts, and cozy pubs. Whereas spring is the season for nature lovers as blossoms and wisteria begin to flower across the city.

Is there a rainy season in London?

There’s certainly a rainy “season” in London, but not in the same way as they do in tropical climes . The city sees rain throughout all four seasons, but the months with the most average amount of rainfall are November (66.63mm), October (65.07mm), and December (57.05mm), according to Met Office data. According to Met Office data collected between 1991–2020, July is the warmest month in London with an average temperature of 23.89 degrees Celsius (or about 75 degrees Fahrenheit). When is the cheapest time to visit London?

Avoid the February half term (a period of school holidays), the exact dates of which change annually.

January and February are historically the quietest months in London, when you get the best chances to save money and score deals.

When should you visit London for Christmas activities?

If you’re looking to visit London during the festive period, you’ll want to time your trip when the Christmas lights have begun to sparkle, holiday markets have opened, and fun events are taking place. Most big light displays—such as those on Oxford and Regent Street—happen in the second week of November, while Christmas markets kick off toward the end of the month. We’d recommend timing your visit toward the end of November or the beginning of December to get the best of London’s festivities without the busiest crowds.

When is the best time to avoid the crowds in London?

Speaking of crowds, London can be very busy with tourists during peak travel times. If you’d rather plan a more peaceful visit, consider traveling during the week (as in, not the weekends) and outside of school holidays (in the UK, these take place at Easter and during the end of July through to the beginning of September, with shorter school term breaks in February, May, and October).
