Experience the beauty of Vancouver Island and the West Coast…

“Sightseeing Flights”, “Air Tours”, or “Flightseeing”. Whatever you want to call them, our scenic tours are an amazing way to get a different perspective on an area. Whether you’re here on Vacation or you’ve lived here for years, we can give you the opportunity to see things in a way you’ve never seen them before.

We offer a range of incredible tours in our lovingly maintained Cessna aircraft, checking out some of the most spectacular scenery the Coast has to offer. Let our experienced pilots show you around and entertain you with some local knowledge.

We can provide tours in our 5 passenger seat Cessna 206, or in our 3 passenger seat Cessna 172s. Either is a great way to safely and comfortably enjoy the sights from the air. Tours typically depart Campbell River or Courtenay Airpark in the Comox Valley, but we can pick you up at just about any airport you’d like. Fill the fast, 5 seat Cessna 206 for the best price tours!

Tours are fully customizable for time and route but we’ve outlined a few great tours below.

  • Comox Glacier Tour

A day in Vancouver

https://discovervancouvertours.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/©DCT-LouiseMallard-CanadaPlace-Vancouver.jpg

  • Begin your tour by visiting Canada Place and Jack Poole Plaza, where you will see the Olympic Torch
  • Explore the Totem Poles in Stanley Park with an optional walking tour led by your local guide
  • Drive through the West End’s trendy neighbourhood and the beach at English Bay to get a sense of the land
  • Visit Granville Island for a brief tour of this little oasis in the heart of our city. Walk-through one of the market halls and snap a picture of the quaint water taxis cruising through False Creek. Enjoy free time for lunch and shopping here
  • Return to your preferred pick-up location at the beginning of the tour at approximately 1:30pm (morning departures) or 6:30pm (afternoon departures)
  • You can purchase additional adventures before or after your tour at our office. We offer special rates on diverse Vancouver attractions, such as Flyover in Vancouver or Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, which offers free shuttles from Canada Place in downtown Vancouver

Totems

  • Canada Place & Jack Poole Plaza

Start your journey today with a stop at two iconic landmarks situated side by side along Vancouver’s waterfront. Canada Place resembles a sailing ship, and it serves as both a symbol of Canadian pride and a hub for tourism and events. Jack Poole Plaza, named after the visionary behind the 2010 Winter Olympics bid, features stunning views of the harbor and mountains, making it a popular gathering spot. Here you will see the Olympic Torch, which was lit during the 2010 Winter Olympics, and represents the four host First Nations of the games. The entire area stands as a testament to Vancouver’s cultural vibrancy.

  • Stanley Park & Brockton Point

Continue on and stop at Stanley Park, one of Vancouver’s top attractions, offering a coastal rainforest walk with a rich diversity of lush plants and rare trees. Explore the park as you are surrounded by local mountains and the beautiful cityscape. Here you will have the option to join a short guided walking tour of the First Nations Totem Poles. These represent a number of Indigenous Nations near Brockton Point. Some of these beautifully carved Totem Poles have been dated back to as early as the 1880’s.

Walking

West End & English Bay

Drive away from Stanley Park and into the city’s urban area. The West End offers a captivating blend of urban living and natural beauty. As Vancouver’s trendiest neighbourhood, it has a vibrant and diverse community and a lively atmosphere. English Bay, also called First Beach, is known for its sandy beach and breathtaking sunsets. This is where the annual Polar Bear Swim takes place every New Year’s Day since 1920, where brave participants take a cold plunge into the water.

Granville Island

Cross the bridge onto Granville Island. Situated in the heart of the city, this little peninsula is home to a quaint public market featuring fresh produce, artisanal foods, and unique crafts. Have free time to stroll through the area’s lively streets, explore the galleries and shops, and find the perfect lunch/dinner spot. This must-visit destination for both locals and tourists will be the last stop of your tour. Then, you will be dropped off at the same spot you were picked up from at the beginning.

False Creek

From Granville Island, you can find the best spots to relax along the seawall to catch picturesque water shots of False Creek.

Are there restroom facilities available during the tour?

The air quality reading was OK, said Vigh, who lives in 100 Mile House in central B.C., but she didn’t know that the reading wasn’t local. The closest air quality monitoring station was in Williams Lake, nearly 100 km away.

When wildfire smoke rolled into 100 Mile House that afternoon, she got all of the kids, including Carter, inside.

It wasn’t until Carter was back home on the couch in the early evening that he “started coughing like crazy,” Vigh said.

She and her husband gave Carter his asthma inhalers and tried to cool him down with a bath, but he got worse.

“We knew something terrible was wrong and that he needed to go get oxygen,” she said.

Carter died later in hospital of asthma exacerbated by wildfire smoke.

“I want people to realize that asthma can go from zero to 100 in the blink of an eye,” Vigh said.

She also wants people to know that “your indoor air quality isn’t always a safe haven without having air purifiers.”

“We honestly didn’t have one because it wasn’t something we ever really knew much about,” Vigh said.

That’s why the Vigh family started Carter’s Project in partnership with the B.C. Lung Foundation.

On May 14, they will distribute 100 air quality monitors throughout 100 Mile House and teach people how to build their own air purifiers using box fans and high efficiency particulate air furnace filters.

Although they’re starting with their hometown, their goal is to bring air quality monitors and air filters to every community in British Columbia as they face yet another wildfire season. They’d like to eventually expand the program to communities all over the country, Vigh said.

The president and CEO of the B.C. Lung Foundation said when Carter died, the tragedy made him realize that his organization could do more to make sure people have the tools they need to “learn about what’s in the air they breathe, and to be able to take action.”

“It is such an important thing to have that (air quality) information about what’s happening in your own backyard,” said Chris Lam.

“Depending on how the wind blows that day, you can even divide 100 Mile House into six, seven or eight different regions where their air quality might potentially be dramatically different.”

Equally crucial is making sure people have the ability to monitor and filter the air inside their homes, because harmful particulate matter from wildfire smoke and other pollutants can get in, Lam said.

“We often think about smoke being outside,” he said.

“(But) we spend about 90 per cent of our days indoors, whether that’s in our homes or at work or at school,” he said.

“Understanding what’s in the air … and how that affects our indoor environments becomes so important.”

Dr. Melissa Lem, president of Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, called Carter’s Project incredible.

“Now is exactly the right time, because every sign is pointing to another summer of deadly smoke. And we need to start preparing now,” she said.

“Climate change is happening and we’re going to have these wildfire smoke crises year after year. But we also have to put out the fire at its source and prevent the smoke from getting worse by reducing our use of fossil fuels,” said Lem, a family physician in Vancouver who also works in rural and northern communities.

Governments also need to step in and help protect people from poor air quality, Lem said.

Just as governments have funded home retrofit programs to help people reduce their carbon footprint, they should also consider subsidizing air filters to ensure everyone can breathe clean air indoors, she said.

Municipalities should also be thinking about “clean air shelters” when local air pollution reaches a certain level, similar to cooling centres opening during heat waves, Lem said.

For Vigh, working to prevent other families from losing a loved one due to wildfire smoke helps her deal with her grief.

“Carter would have been the kid that would have made a difference in this world had he been given the chance,” she said.
