How to Plan the Perfect Customer Visit [+ Agenda Template]

Published: August 02, 2021

Now that the world is opening back up, it’s time to get out there and meet your customers face-to-face. For many newer customers, this might be their first time getting to spend time with you — especially as conferences have moved online.

Creating that connection is invaluable. But before you book that plane ticket, it’s essential to create a plan. Planning the perfect customer visit will ensure that you meet your goals and that your customer meeting will be successful. Here’s a look at how you get there.

Why plan a customer visit?

Jason Lemkin, the founder of SaaStr and EchoSign, has said “ I never lost a customer I actually visited. ” That’s a bold statement — one that's worth taking note of. But why? What is it about customer visits that has such a big impact on customer loyalty?

First of all, you get to make a stronger impression with your customers. No matter what you sell, you aren’t just selling a product — you’re also selling the people behind it.

Your vision, your passion, your knowledge are all play into the perceived value of your product or service. All of these elements come across more strongly when you visit in person. A Zoom call just isn’t enough time to go deep.

Secondly, you get to see how your customers are using your product in person. Are they constantly printing out reports to pin up on a wall? Are you seeing teams walk across the sales floor to point out something on a screen? What kind of working environment and equipment do they have? What other types of software are they using?

Everything happening behind the scenes paints a much clearer picture of who your customers are. And when it comes time to renew or jump on that next customer success call, you’ll have a lot more knowledge ready to draw on.

Finally, meeting your customers in person is a huge motivational boost! When you’re behind a screen for so long, it can start to feel like what you do doesn’t matter — or that you’re not making any real connections. But a visit to a customer’s office can change all that, and really light up your idea of “why” you do this at all.

5 Potential Goals of Your Customer Visit

Going into a customer visit with goals in mind will help you get the most out of your time there. Here are five goals to consider when planning a customer visit:

1. Understanding Their Business Goals

If you’re visiting a client, you’re likely hoping for a long term relationship. Understanding what their future goals are can help align your product with their needs. These in-depth conversations would rarely come up over a quick phone call.

2. Gathering Feedback

Customer visits provide a unique opportunity to gather honest and in-the-moment insight into what your customers need and want. When you sit next to someone who uses your product in their daily work, there’s a lot more space to have this feedback arise. And documenting it for future sales opportunities and your product team is one of the more productive actions you can take during a customer visit.

3. Referrals

In-person visits are a great time to ask for and give referrals. Ask, “Are there any other companies that you work with that you could see our product being helpful for?” Alternatively, if a pain point is mentioned by the client and you know the perfect company to help solve it, don’t be afraid to build that connection. It’s just another way you can bring value to your customers.

4. Uncovering Opportunities for Cross-Selling or Upselling

While your primary objective shouldn’t be pitching your offering at every opportunity, you might uncover a problem that your product or service can help solve. Noting these potential value-adds can make for more effective, thoughtfully targeted upsell and cross-sell conversations.

5. Testimonials and Case Studies

Customer visits can be a unique source of sales content, including pictures for case studies, video testimonials, and strong evidence-based customer stories. If you plan on making this one of your primary goals, consider asking your client to set the stage for these kinds of materials before you visit so you already know who you’ll be speaking to, before coming onsite.

How to Plan an Onsite Customer Meeting

By putting more effort in before you go, you’ll have a much better chance of achieving your goals and impressing your clients. Here are some key actions to consider when planning your customer meeting.

Thoroughly prepare before the visit.

Before you arrive, make sure you’re up to date on the state of the customer's account. Who are they usually talking to at your company? What customer service tickets have they raised lately? Are there outstanding issues that need to be addressed? These will come up during your visit.

Secondly, understand the current ecosystem your customer is working within. Is your customer in the news? What’s happening in their industry? What threats and opportunities are arising in their business? Being prepared and knowledgeable about their inner workings will make a better impression than coming in blind.

Decide who you’re meeting with.

Start by setting up a meeting with relevant company leadership. That could be the CEO, the founders, or the VP of the functional team you're working with — depending on the company's scale. Bear in mind, while this contact might be the "reason" for your visit, they're probably not who you'll be spending the most time with.

Once you have a meeting scheduled with the company's leadership, plan the rest of your day around meeting with the team leaders and employees using your product — as well as any teams that are open to signing up or expanding the current seat count or contract scope.

Make dinner reservations for you and your clients.

Traditionally, a customer visit includes taking your client out for a nice dinner as a token of appreciation. It also offers a chance for you to get to know each other outside of the limits of the work environment and form stronger relationships.

That being said, this is not a social visit. Keep your goals in mind — even outside of work hours. If you’re familiar with the restaurants in the area, choose a place that has options for every diet and has a good atmosphere for conversations. If you’re not familiar with the available options, ask the client where they’d recommend.

Complete the wrap-up report.

After the visit is over, you still have work to do. Create a wrap-up report for your internal teams back at the office. It should cover key elements of the visit like any confidentiality agreements put in place and who at your company you can share contact information or sales figures with.

Identify any action items that came up during the visit. Include any positive highlights during the meeting as well as any risks or opportunities that arose. Create a copy of the report for your client as well, to show that you were listening to their concerns and that you’re going to follow up with them.

Now that we have explored some useful weekly schedule templates, let’s take a closer look at these templates and their use cases.

What is a weekly schedule template?

A weekly schedule helps with the planning of your team’s tasks within a one-week timeframe. It lists out their meetings or work activities on specific days of the week.

The purpose of creating a weekly schedule is the same as that of a daily planner or personal planner. But the significant difference is that here you’re thinking ahead and planning your team’s tasks for the entire week.

A weekly calendar will inform the team about their upcoming priorities and the due dates of each task in advance. The weekly planner can cover a range of tasks like creating a PowerPoint presentation, discussing a new project brief, attending a seminar, and so on.

Who can benefit from it?

The free weekly planner template can come in handy for individuals from different walks of life, such as:

  • Project managers and team leaders looking for shift scheduling templates.
  • CEOs and executives looking to improve employee productivity .
  • IT Professionals working on multiple projects.
  • Marketers handling several clients.
  • Senior scholars or MBA graduates (for class scheduling, lesson plan, homework assignments, and college schedule).
  • Freelancers working for different clients.
  • People who want it for personal use.

Now that we know the basics of weekly schedules, let’s check out the top advantages of using the weekly planner template.

3 advantages of using a weekly schedule template

Here are the three advantages of using a weekly schedule template:

1. Keeps your team goal-oriented

The best part of having a weekly schedule is that your team won’t be confused about their to-do lists and topmost priorities. It serves as a guide to their important tasks, just like a daily planner template.

The awareness of weekly tasks gives employees a head start. It allows them to come up with a plan of action for achieving those weekly goals. This way, your team can allot time for all the tasks wisely and use their working hours productively.

At the end of the week, they don’t feel the undue pressure of completing certain tasks they weren’t prepared for. Instead, the weekly calendar template helps them focus on tasks with the nearest due dates.

The weekly work schedule can assist your team with work planning, reduce workplace stress levels , and increase your success score at work!

2. Helps you with task delegation

Managers often have a tough time delegating tasks and constantly wonder if the workload distribution across the team is fair enough.

A simple weekly schedule can solve your problem and help you delegate tasks more effectively .

With the weekly planner, you can view the task list of each employee in your team and gauge their bandwidth. With the weekly work schedule template, you won’t mistake assigning a task to an employee with a full calendar.

Moreover, in creating an employee schedule, you can understand which team member can best handle a specific task. You can go through the previous work schedule and weekly calendar to make an accurate decision.

3. Lets you break down large tasks

With the weekly planner template, you can break down large and complex projects into smaller, more manageable tasks.

So in the 5-day work week schedule template, you can break down the project work across five working days, so your team knows the expected timelines.

For example, start with a project brief on Monday. Tuesday can be about brainstorming ideas followed by the initial project execution phase on Wednesday, and by Friday, the team can submit the product or idea for review.

Such a weekly plan will enable your team members to understand their roles and tasks associated with the project in greater detail. As a result, your team can progress through different project stages with greater clarity and minimum confusion.

In a blank weekly schedule template, you can list the different tasks and subtasks in the calendar.

However, despite being an efficient means of planning the team’s work, the weekly schedule template has many limitations.

So before you decide to implement these templates in your workplace, you may want to go over the next section highlighting its major disadvantages.

3 disadvantages of using a weekly schedule template

Here are the three cons of using a weekly schedule template:

1. Makes it difficult to collaborate

The problem with a printable weekly planner is that you’ve to share and reshare the schedules every time you make some edits — as the latest calendar updates won’t automatically reflect in an Excel spreadsheet or PDF document.

Even when you create the weekly schedule template on Google Docs, you’ll have to notify your team with the updated link via email. So the more changes you make to the employee schedule template, the longer that particular email thread becomes. And as we all know, finding a relevant link or one-page attachment in a cluttered inbox can be time-consuming and inconvenient.

So the weekly planner template makes it difficult for employees across departments to collaborate effortlessly. Unlike a digital weekly planner, it doesn’t let you organize all the information on one centralized platform.

2. Cannot keep track of absences

The weekly schedule template lacks the feature of automatically showing employees who are present, absent, or joining late.

In the Excel template, you can enter these details manually on the same working day or after. But the lack of prior information about an employee’s unavailability can disrupt the weekly schedule of an entire team — especially if a particular task’s progress depends on them.

However, this is not the case with a digital weekly planner that tracks the employee’s vacation days and paid time off.

3. Lack of version control

The weekly schedule undergoes several edits when multiple team members have access to the same spreadsheet.

While this is necessary for updating any task or timeline due to changing priorities or pushed back deadlines, you’ll never know the last person who edited the weekly planner template.

It’s also entirely possible for an employee to make an error while updating the weekly template, which can put the entire team’s work plan at risk. And due to the lack of version control, you can’t hold anyone accountable or identify the origin of the mistake.

Fortunately, there’s a smart alternative to using manual weekly schedule templates for better teamwork .

Plan weekly schedules for higher productivity with Time Doctor

With effective weekly scheduling, you can organize your team’s daily work activities to avoid losing sight of the weekly goals. However, maintaining and updating the schedule manually every week can be quite time-consuming and often prone to error.

That’s why you need a robust, digital solution for better schedule and time management.

And Time Doctor is one of the best time tracking software that can help you overcome the drawbacks of the printable weekly schedule.

What is Time Doctor?

time doctor Time Tracking

  • Press Start to start tracking your time.
  • Hit Stop when your task is complete or if you want to pause for some time.
  • You can move to other tasks and continue recording the time, in the same way, using the timer button.

Easy and accurate time tracking

The timer starts as soon as the employees switch on their systems in the automatic time tracking mode.

This feature helps them concentrate on the work at hand, instead of getting distracted by the timer every single time. However, you’ll still get detailed insights into your employees’ productivity.

C. Assess weekly progress and productivity

Besides employee scheduling, managers can access Time Doctor’s detailed reports to evaluate their employee’s progress on the weekly tasks.

Here’s a list of Time Doctor’s productivity reports :

  • Activity summary report: Get an overview of every employee’s active working hours and unproductive time in a given week.
  • Hours tracked report: Track the total number of hours your employees have worked on their task lists in a week.
  • Timeline report: Get daily and weekly reports on the time employees spend on breaks and their tasks. Here you can monitor their weekly routine and check if it’s in sync with the work schedule.
  • Web and app usage report: Assess employee productivity by checking their time on different apps and websites.
  • Projects and tasks report: Calculate the time employees contribute towards different tasks and projects in a given week.
  • Attendance report: Check the data for the present, absent, partially absent, or late joining employees. Also, you can view the data for your work schedule in the attendance report.

Schedule Attendance Report

These reports are key to assessing your employees’ performance and help you understand if they’re sticking to their work schedule.

Besides helping you plan your team’s weekly schedule, Time Doctor can also send distraction alerts to employees whenever they spend too much time on social media or other time-consuming apps.

You can use the tool’s productivity ratings feature to classify websites as productive or unproductive. This way, your employees avoid browsing through such unproductive websites and keep up their work momentum.

Final thoughts

You can prioritize your tasks, plan your daily goals, and push yourself to excellence with weekly schedules.

However, using a weekly schedule template is not the best option to manage team schedules. For starters, a weekly planner template lacks automation functionality, which is quite essential in today’s high-paced work environment.

So why not opt for an employee scheduling app like Time Doctor, which can monitor your progress and improve productivity?

Sign up for Time Doctor’s 14-day free trial today and help your team breeze through their weekly goals!

Why is weekly planning important

Weekly planning is something we wish everyone would adopt. With today’s crazy life pace, planning your week helps you stay sane, organized, and in tune with your bigger goals.

If you plan your week (for example with online schedule builder ), you have a much higher chance of achieving your targets because you will actually do something that brings you closer to them. As a bonus, you’re not going to be as stressed because a plan gives you peace of mind. There’s no need to rush or worry – everything is planned out in schedule maker for free already.

Moreover, planning is good for time management . It can sound counterintuitive, but spending time on creating a structure for your week allows you to save time on execution.

Tips for an effective week planning

Let’s start with the key information – the curated list of actionable planner tips and planner ideas that will help you plan your week ahead to achieve the most while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Weekly planning tips

#1 Plan the day before

The first on the list of weekly planner tips is planning the day before.

Yes, you can plan the week on Monday morning. But you are likely to forget something and waste too much time thinking and brainstorming. And instead, you could be dedicating all those hours to going through your weekly tasks and getting ahead. So planning in simple online planner in advance is a great idea.

The start of the day is the most productive time for the majority of people, so don’t miss out on those precious hours doing non-critical work or planning.

#2 Define your goals & priority for the week clearly

Take a minute to think about the next seven days and what you’d like to achieve to move forward in life. Be specific, otherwise, you won’t be as motivated, and it will be impossible to measure your progress.

What type of tasks do you want to work on this week? Put it in your task tracker with the details.

What project would you like to focus on? Set goals for a project in the electronic planner app .

Looking at the entire week instead of working with individual days helps you control the direction of where you’re going. It would be a shame to hustle and work hard day by day, only to look back at the week and see that you’ve not brought yourself closer to where you truly want to be.

#3 Drop down your goals into actionable steps

Create a list of tasks and assign them throughout the week in a logical and subsequent manner. Avoid creating delays caused by dependent tasks being unfinished.

When working through tasks, pay attention to their priority and how long they take to complete. If you have a medium-priority task that takes 30 minutes, you might get it over with before moving on to the top-priority task that you estimate will take 7 hours to complete.

Pro tip: Write down everything in your online to-do list . It’s always with you, so you can keep all tasks in one place. Plus, if you write the task down, you have a record of it, but if you try to remember it – there’s a good chance you’ll forget all about it.

#4 Use the mind sweep technique to get all your to-dos out of your head

The mind sweep technique was initially introduced by David Allen in his best-selling Getting Things Done book. We talk more about Mind Sweep in a separate article, so you can check it out for details.

In short, mind sweeping is the practice where you take a piece of paper or open Bordio and dump all your thoughts, ideas, worries, tasks, and projects. Basically, anything that has a place in your brain and you think about it – must be added to the list. Next, you categorize the list and divide tasks into separate groups (work, personal life, development, physical health, etc). Step three is to work with all tasks, identify their priorities , and start scheduling them into your personal planner. Step four is to start working through your to-do list.

Why is it important? Thoughts and worries take a toll on our mental health. The more things we have on our minds, the less focused we are, and the more energy is drained out of us.

With mind sweeping, you will have a clear understanding of the total scope of work and the importance of its components. You’ll have a structure that will guide you in the right direction and help you maintain a healthy pace as you work on your goals.

Tip: Books like Getting Things Done can be a great source of information and motivation. Check out Bordio’s best productivity books list for more inspiration.

#5 Review your waiting list/backlog every week

If you are a Bordio user, you are familiar with the waiting list – it is a separate list in your weekly or monthly planner where you log all tasks, ideas, and anything else that can’t be scheduled yet but must be remembered for the future. If you have a remote team to manage – you may use a collaborative tools for remote working .

Bordio Waiting List with Tasks

The waiting/backlog list can be any list that you keep in addition to your primary to-dos. The waiting list is a continuation of the Mind Sweep in some way. By maintaining a waiting list (a.k.a. task backlog), you prevent your brain from being overloaded with information.

Yet, if you create a waiting list once and ignore it, the whole purpose of this instrument is defeated. Make it a habit to look through the tasks’ backlog at least once a week and choose what can be scheduled for the current or the upcoming week. Also, as time goes by, your priorities will change. So, if you find that some of the tasks are not relevant anymore – cross them out. We suggest using Bordio’s free time planner for this.

Pro tip: If you haven’t already, consider delegating some of the tasks. Maybe certain things are stuck in your backlog because you simply have no time for them. If that’s the case, find a way to delegate them that works for you.

#6 Use a single planner to store all your tasks & events

There are many great productivity tips out there that help you be more efficient with planning, working, and anything else.

One of the key productivity tips for beginners in planning is to keep a single planner for everything. By “everything” we mean work, personal life, side hustles, meal prep, parenting, and anything else that is a part of your life.

Our energy is not infinite, and so are the hours in our days. Many of us struggle to complete the overly ambitious to-dos, even though they seem rather mild and doable. The reason for failure often lies in ignoring the other parts of our lives. For example, if you are a freelancer and only plan your work tasks (6 hours per day in total), you’d think that it is realistic. However, you might also be a parent who needs to attend to their kids’ needs when they’re not in kinder garden (8 hours a day), and there are chores (3 hours) with a commute (2 hours) that have to be considered too. In total, you can have just 6 hours of work scheduled but over 19 hours busy in the day. You have to allocate time properly and use the best time management tools .

No wonder you are always overwhelmed! Therefore, we recommend you the best digital daily planner Bordio with a user-friendly interface and wide functionality.

#7 Set up recurring tasks

If you plan using Bordio or any other digital weekly planner, make sure you create recurring events for tasks and meetings that happen every week. This will save you tons of time and ensure you don’t double-book yourself because you forgot something.

Setting up a recurring task

Consider scheduling recurring tasks for things like grocery shopping and meal planning, along with work tasks.

Tip: If you are a visual person, download one of the printable monthly calendars and mark key recurring tasks there. Hang the calendar on the wall or put it at your desk to peek into it every day and get an extra boost of motivation.

#8 Schedule your to-dos in batches

Task-batching is a powerful productivity technique that can make beginner weekly planners’ lives much easier.

Task batching can be seen in two ways. First, it’s a technique to group together similar tasks that require the same energy. For example, if you have to do research for a project and proofread documentation for the other project – those tasks can be grouped. Or if you have client calls, try scheduling them all for the same day.

Obviously, calling a client and doing research are very different and we approach them in different ways. That’s why focusing on certain types of tasks on a given day can lead to higher-quality output.

Another way to view task batching is by making the most of the day when you have important tasks or events scheduled. For example, you have an important customer meeting on Tuesday at 2 pm in the city center. This can’t be rescheduled or moved, so you need to make the most of the rest of the day.

So, before heading to the meeting, make a stop to get gas at the gas station and buy groceries, so you won’t have to go in the evening during rush hour. You could also schedule something past the meeting, such as a long overdue catch-up with a friend, a doctor’s visit, or a movie date. That way, you didn’t just drive two hours one way to meet the client but managed to do a lot of things that you’d have to do anyway.

#9 Leave the room in your schedule to breath

Avoid planning your week back-to-back. No matter how busy you think you are, schedule short breaks and lunch breaks, and leave room between meetings and tasks.

Schedule with room to breathe

Why? First of all, planning like this adds unnecessary stress. And there is no reason why you’d want to add stress to your life, right?

Secondly, something always goes wrong – people are late to meetings, your computer crashes, and you have to re-write those last pages of the client proposal, or your kid gets sick, and you have to pick them up from school earlier than anticipated.

Don’t let planning make your life harder. We’re doing it for the exact opposite, after all.

#10 Make changes when necessary

When you’re done planning for the week, the last thing you want is to have to redo it because things have changed. Yet, it’s what likely will happen to you because changes and interruptions are inevitable.

If circumstances change, don’t be stubborn and adapt to the new reality faster for your own benefit. The faster you accept that changes happen and learn to adjust your schedule, the more productive and happy you’ll be in the end.

#11 Don’t forget about daily planning

Your plan for the week is crucial for productive and satisfactory days.

However, it is also important to keep track of each day of the week. Don’t forget to work with your daily planner and cross out the tasks that are assigned to that day. It’s daily planning that will help you determine how you’re doing and if you are on schedule or need to speed up or rearrange something.

#12 Analyze what didn’t happen the previous week

As you plan the upcoming week, look back at the past week and see if any tasks were left unfinished. Review each of them and understand why.

Perhaps there was an external reason that prevented you from completing them, or higher priority and urgent stuff came up. Have an honest look at all those tasks and ask yourself – are they still relevant for me next week? If not, feel free to delete them. If these tasks still matter, schedule them again and consider the issues from the previous week to ensure that this time the tasks get done.

#13 Try the Ivy Lee Method if you have too many tasks

The Ivy Lee Method has an interesting legend about the way it was created. Read about it in our dedicated Ivy Lee guide .

In principle, the method imposes a limit on the daily tasks that you can schedule, prohibiting having more than six tasks on your daily to-do list. Such limitation pushes you to really think and prioritize what’s important, focusing on quality rather than quantity.

Once you know that endless to-dos are not an option for you, you will start making surprising decisions that you wouldn’t anticipate making before.

#14 Plan for tasks to take more time than you think

Most of us are prone to underestimating how much time something will take.

And then we end up stressed because the day has gone and we are still nowhere near a complete to-do list. A lot of the time, it’s not because we’re lazy, slow, or unqualified. It’s more about us incorrectly estimating how much time the work actually requires. So, as you go about planning your week and estimating tasks’ duration, add 20-30% to the time you would otherwise have allocated to do this work.

Don’t worry about efficient scheduling here. Even if you end up completing everything faster, you’ll have time for breaks and incoming urgent requests. And there are always lower priority tasks that you can sort out or, better yet, you can dedicate time to strategic planning, creative work, or something else that gets pushed to the backburner a lot.

#15 Have fun with your planner

If you struggle with building a planning routine, consider planner decorating. Planner stickers (digital or physical) and using more colors can help make the shift in mentality and move planning from the “boring but must do” section to an enjoyable part of your day. Sometimes all we need to turn the situation around is to trick our brains a little.

#16 Find an accountability partner

Friends are looking out for friends. Find a buddy or a workmate who could use a bit more structure in their life just like you. Agree to share your weekly plans and keep each other accountable.

Reach out to each other during the week to ensure you’re both on track. And if you’re close enough, schedule coffee dates to go over your goals. That way, you will keep each other pumped about your plans and also get support and advice through a friendly conversation. And as an extra bonus, you will strengthen your relationship by building this weekly ritual.

The benefits of weekly planning

When you plan smart, you execute better.

Planning often is associated with something lame, mundane, or unnecessary. The most free-spirited of us refuse to plan as it kills creativity and makes life seem like one big to-do list. That’s one way to look at planning.

Weekly planning benefits

And here is how we see it.

Weekly planning lets you have your time back

The other approach to planning, and weekly planning in particular, is to see it as a great liberator of our time. These days, there is simply too much to do with too little time to do it. If you want to accomplish more and keep your life balanced and healthy – planning is your main helper.

You unlock smart goal-setting and achieving

Planning your goals and how you want to achieve them will lead to you reaching those goals faster. Goals can be scary and intimidating, but when they are planned out, you are less afraid to start, and your productivity skyrockets.

Stress and anxiety go down

When you have a plan that you follow, you know you’ll be able to accomplish everything and there is no rush, giving you peace of mind. The step-by-step process that you’ve drawn up ensures your goal is attainable, even if it’s challenging, so you don’t have anxiety when you realize your goal planning doesn’t add up.

Risk management gets better too

There are already so many external factors that can disrupt your life and affect your goals. There is no excuse why you won’t prepare for what is in your control. Planning will not eliminate all risks that exist out there but will significantly reduce the number of risks that you will be exposed to.

There’s more structure to your days

Structure, process, routine – whatever you call it, you need it to keep you focused, grounded, and moving forward. A chaotic lifestyle looks good in movies, but in reality, it does more harm than good. Having structure means you can rely on something and still keep going and do your best even if you don’t feel motivation or inspiration.

As James Clear has famously said, “You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems”.

You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.

Working with your upcoming week’s goals and figuring out the schedule is paramount for building the life you want.

The right tools, such as an online weekly planner by Bordio, can upgrade your experience even further.

All these features and tools make your planning more seamless and create a support system for your weekly planning.

Tip: If you are more of a paper planner person, Bordio created a selection of printable weekly planner templates for you to choose from. You’ll find daily, weekly, and monthly planners or various designs. Pair them with a digital planner for the best results.

Most common mistakes of weekly planning

Now you know all the best tips for beginners that will make you a planning champion. The final stop before we let you go is to a list of typical mistakes that many of us make.

Planning is a skill, and it takes time to master. Avoid the mistakes below for better results:

  • Not writing down your weekly to-dos and forgetting them.
  • Having your weekly to-dos in different places (calendar & task manager & notes & messengers).
  • Planning everything back to back without buffer time for unexpected stuff that will inevitably come up (it always does).
  • Thinking that you don’t have enough time for planning. As Brian Tracy says, – every minute you spend in planning saves 10 minutes in execution.
  • Planning too little time to work on tasks (it gets better, just try to not be overly optimistic as you’re just starting with planning).
  • Scheduling important things for the end of the week or late evenings (by that time, you’ll be drained and likely either fail to complete the task or do it with lower quality than you could).
  • Ditching planning after one or two failed attempts (planning takes time to master, so don’t be discouraged if you couldn’t commit to your plans, it’s all part of the learning process).

Planning is something that we learn best by doing it. With time you will understand what works for you best and your planning will improve dramatically. As you are embarking on a planning journey, pair it with building new good habits and building a healthy daily routine that will stimulate you to get better.

Final thoughts on weekly planning

There are many successful people out there who inspire us, yet we can’t seem to understand how they manage to do so many things and still have 24 hours within a day. Because their level of productivity seems unattainable to us, we often resort to saying that they’re simply special and not everyone can be like them.

We strongly disagree.

Successful people are not special in the sense that we think they are. Instead, they are willing to do what most of us don’t – to plan their days and weeks and to stick to those plans.

Important disclaimer: a lot of successful people have the resources to hire help and outsource boring tasks, so they can focus on their vision and projects. And if you can’t afford assistants, nannies, and cooks, there is only so much schedule optimization you can do.

Still, many of us don’t utilize the maximum potential of weekly planning. So, if you are unsure or skeptical, try following our planner tips and planning rigorously for the next few weeks. We don’t know what your results will look like, but we guarantee that you will feel like a superhero.

Everyone’s weekly planning journey will look different, but it’s a journey that will lead you to greatness eventually.

Happy planning!

Why You Need a Weekly Sales Plan

Have you ever tried grocery shopping? Are you one of those people who just randomly go to the supermarket, grab whatever they can find, and then go home only to realize that they’ve forgotten to grab a new carton of milk or a roll of tissues? So they’re going to have to drive all the way back to the store to grab two essential things they forgot simply because they didn’t create a list of what they need. You may also see sales strategy plan examples .

Or even when you’re driving to some place you’ve never been to. You don’t just start your engine and hope for the best. You’ll have to ask for directions and landmarks, or find the location on your GPS to assure that you get there. Unless you want to lose a couple of hours off your time getting lost, then be everybody’s guest. You may also like daily sales plan examples .

Your sales plan is not that different from a grocery list or a map for an unfamiliar road. Not only will it help make sure you actually get what and where you set your eyes on, it will also make the attempt more efficient because you have already planned the whole process.

The competitiveness of the corporate world can be overwhelming. Achieving goals you’ve set out for your team is already difficult in itself. If you add the rivals into the equation, it can be pretty daunting. If you make your way through it with no direction or guide whatsoever, not only will you fail to get anywhere meaningful, you might also get lost.

The unadulterated act of writing your goals on paper gives it more weight, more significance. It also gives you more focus, in comparison to simply trying to maintain a mental picture of the things that you want to gain. In this technology-ruled generation, something as important as your better goal must deserve to be written down.

Having a target you can work toward is excellent because it can serve as your motivation. But backing that up with a plan? It’s 90% chance of success. Having a printed out weekly sales plan can give you the focus of a shopping list and the efficiency of a map.

Annual and quarterly sales plans are also valuable but they tend to look at the bigger picture more. This can become a liability since it’s the small steps that serves as a catalyst for the long-term goals to be achieved. A weekly sales plan is every successful salesperson’s secret weapon. They will use it to declare exactly what they intend to get done, and how they can do it, over the short time span of seven days.

With a weekly sales plan, you can also make the most out of your weekend knowing that your five days has been successful, and that the next week has already been prepared for. Who doesn’t want that kind of assurance?

Three Ways to Start Your Sales Week

The best way to maximize your five days is to already have an idea on what you can use it for, keeping in mind that every action must be dedicated to attaining the best possible long-term results. Here are three things you can choose to do with your week to make the best out of it:

1. Begin with Your Existing Opportunities

On a positive note, you don’t have to start with a completely empty plate because you already have an existing pipeline to work with. It’s now up to you to utilize these resources to help you move either forward or backward. You may also see territory sales plan examples .

Working backward would mean that you grab the opportunities that have presented themselves to you, such as a phone call, an email, or a meeting to an important entity, and use them to help you move forward.

By using your assets and injecting the right amount of commitment, you’ll create a faster route to the end of the sales process. This is an effective technique that can help you make sure that you’ve taken every possible action to move forward. You may also like monthly sales plan examples .

By taking these opportunities and moving them forward at the dawn of the sales process, you can effectively gain commitments while also using the ones you already have.

2. Begin by Creating New Opportunities within Your Existing Clients

Another option you can develop on is the chance to create new opportunities with the help of your patrons. Use these existing relationships to make new opportunities. Doing so will be easier since you already have the people and the contracts, the only thing left for you to do is to take these connections to create bigger value. You may also check out sales strategic plan examples .

3. Begin by Prospecting and Nurturing Your Dream Clients

The final and, honestly, the best choice out of the three is to begin your week with the intention of focusing on your dream clients or your desired market bunch. However, this can be pretty difficult, even for founded salespeople, and especially for those who are new to the field. You might be interested in hotel sales plan examples .

These clients aren’t yours (yet) because of two reasons: first, they don’t know who you are, which can be easily amended; second, they don’t care about you, and there lies the challenge. These prospective clients are going to be cold toward you. And since you don’t have a current relationship with them, nor do you have any existing opportunities where they are concerned, the going will get tough. You may also see restaurant sales plan examples .

However, by focusing on these prospects first, and investing your whole week’s worth of efforts to attract them, the higher your chances are of getting things done.

When it comes to your clients, also known as the most important people in your business life, you have two choices (again): working with the ones who are already loyal to you or trying to market to those who you are yet to attract. If you choose the former, chances are that you will no longer have time for the latter. You may also like printable strategic sales plan examples .

Know your priorities (which is basically the lesson this whole article is trying to communicate) and work on them. But if you feel that you need to implement both choices on your week, do so. Take the day’s first half for one, and the rest for the other. Although this can prove itself to be a challenge, it will also help you achieve more, thus making your week productive. You may also check out sales action plan examples .

Taking the time to think about how you’re going to utilize your upcoming week will help you know the priorities you should focus all your energy on. Doing so will help you achieve small benchmarks that are helpful in reaching your bigger goals. You might be interested in financial plan examples .

How to Develop a Weekly Sales Plan

Once you’ve decided how to make use of your week, you can then proceed to creating a plan that can outline your goals and the steps you can take to reach them. Whether you are a sales manager curating a plan for your team members, or a team member developing a sales plan for yourself, the benefits that this tiny, yet resounding, effort can offer are numerous.

Especially as a salesperson who must be continually self-motivated and driven to ensure an active pursuance of success rather than simply lying in wait until it comes, a weekly sales plan is an absolute need. Which is why below are six steps you can follow to help you design a simple sales plan that can specifically cater to your needs and goals.

1. Determine your sales goals.

Your goals will serve as the starting point which can guide you and tell you how to develop your sales plan. Without a clear and definite aim, even with an effective sales plan, you’ll still drift aimlessly since you don’t really have a destination in mind. (What’s a map or a GPS if you don’t have a place you want to go?) You may also see marketing plan examples .

Your goal can be something small or common like a targeted sales volume or a dollar amount. As unoriginal as these targets are, they can already tell you how hard you have to work and how many sales you need to get to attain your goal.

2. Select the system or strategy most effective in achieving your goal.

Each of the products you are trying to sell needs different marketing strategies . What may help you sell a car may not do you any good when trying to advertise an insurance policy . Once you’ve understood the number or amount you are aiming for, narrow down the best methods in your field and identify which one will be most helpful to you in making sales.

3. Define your target market and develop a sales plan for it.

Get to know your product as well as your customers. Then, connect both parties and see where they match somehow. Determine how your product can meet your customers’ needs, and demonstrate that to them in a way they can never refuse. By understanding the most pertinent needs of your prospects, you can present your product to them in a way that will make them think that it is the answer to their demands. You may also like advertising plan examples .

4. Set a daily target for the number of potential customers you must engage.

If you have an idea of the typical closing ratio for your business, use that number to determine how many prospects you need to see and how many chances of closing a deal you need to create to meet your target. For example, your average closing rate is one out of five. If your goal is two customers a day, then you would need to engage with at least ten people to get the chance of acquiring those two sales. You may also check out marketing strategy plan examples .

Sales is a numbers game. Oftentimes, it only takes a thorough understanding of the figures relevant to your sales goals and finding the required number of prospects to get to the number you are aiming for, and more.

5. Create a rewards system for meeting goals.

Although closing a deal is already a sweet reward in itself, salespeople need something a little more substantial than that. (We all do.)

If you are a manager, offering incentives to your hardworking team can motivate them to propel harder toward meeting your weekly sales goal. If you are a salesperson who just achieved her quota, pat yourself on the back and treat yourself to something. This can keep you inspired to work even harder. You might be interested in real estate development marketing plan examples .

6. Chart your progress and keep careful records.

By writing your goal down and reviewing it daily, you can achieve a practiced focus that will keep you moving forward. Also, it will let you know just how much you have improved or slackened. Keeping record of your own performance will help you assess yourself, and who’s a better critic of you than you? You may also see business development strategy plan examples .

The most important aspect of a weekly sales plan is understanding where you want to find yourself in at the end of the week. Once you’ve identified this, you can then start working to get there. But the excursion will no longer be so difficult because you already have a sketch of how you can arrive at your destination. Perks, right? You may also see action plan examples .

Biden plans Detroit visit to speak at NAACP dinner

Washington — Democratic President Joe Biden will return to Michigan this month to be the keynote speaker for the NAACP Detroit Branch's 69th annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner in Detroit.

The NAACP also will honor Biden with the James Weldon Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award, the Rev. Wendell Anthony, president of the NAACP Detroit Branch, announced at a Wednesday press conference. U.S. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, also will receive the organization's Presidential Award.

The announcement came ahead of a planned Wednesday night campaign rally in Freeland , about 14 miles northwest of Saginaw, by former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

More: Donald Trump returns to Michigan amid court appearances, criminal probes

"We're about to go into a presidential election, and Rev. Anthony says it best: 'We need to take our souls to the polls,'" said Gary Torgow, a Detroit businessman on the boards of DTE Energy and Huntington Bank, who also serves as chairman for the NAACP dinner. "And that's what the NAACP stands for, more than anything."

The NAACP's annual dinner is scheduled for May 19 at Huntington Place , Detroit's riverfront convention center. It's a massive social gathering and among the region's largest sit-down dinners, hosting approximately 10,000 guests.

The NAACP will also honor Detroit residents including the Rev. Dr. Frederick Haynes III, of Friendship-West Baptist Church and Khalilah Spencer, a partner with Honigman LLP, Anthony said. Haynes and Spencer will receive the William Monroe Trotter Freedom and Justice Award and the Ida B. Wells Freedom and Justice Award, respectively.

The NAACP's Great Expectations Award will go to Spain Elementary-Middle School, Renaissance High School and Alexa and Johnnie Turnage, founders of local networking organization Black Tech Saturdays.

Biden spoke at the dinner in 2015 , heralding Detroit's comeback following municipal bankruptcy, saying it was on the road to economic recovery.

The event will be the Democratic president's third campaign trip to Michigan this year and his first since March 14 when he made stops in Saginaw, a Democratic stronghold  within a bellwether Michigan county , greeting volunteers at a private home in the city's Cathedral District neighborhood before dining with a family at a golf course in Saginaw Township.

Biden was also in Michigan on Feb. 1 when he  addressed a crowd of about 200 people at a United Auto Workers hall in Warren  and courted Black voters at a sports bar in Harper Woods.

Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered nearby Biden's meeting that day, decrying the president's continued support for Israel in its war with Hamas in Gaza, which has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians to date. Scrutiny over Biden's role in the war has spread across communities in Michigan, spurring more than 100,000 residents to cast " uncommitted " ballots in protest during the Democratic presidential primary in February.

Meanwhile, students at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University established campus encampments demanding their schools divest from Israel, following similar student protests.

NAACP officials are not concerned about public pushback on Biden's presence at the dinner, though they support people's right to peaceful protest, Anthony said.

More: 'He is not listening to us': Discontent with Biden grows in Michigan's Arab community

Biden's speech to the NAACP in Detroit is part of his campaign's efforts to engage Black voters in battleground Michigan, where turning out Black voters in Detroit and the first-ring suburbs is expected to be key to his running up the score against Trump.

The emphasis on Black voters is reflected in this upcoming and Biden's recent trips to Wayne County and Saginaw County, which have the highest percentage of Black Americans in the state. Biden won each county by 78% and 84% of the vote, respectively, in 2020.

The campaign said it's also been deploying surrogates in Michigan to speak to Black audiences and media about the administration's achievements, including Ohio U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty, former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, who have visited Detroit-area churches. Biden campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu also campaigned with Black pastors and union workers in Flint Township in February.

Anthony hopes for NAACP dinner attendees to come away from Biden's keynote speech feeling inspired to engage with politics on a personal level, he said.

"Democracy, in our view, is on the table," Anthony said of the 2024 presidential election, adding he felt freedom itself was at stake with issues such as voting rights and women's healthcare. "The bottom line is, I hope people take away that: 'It's really up to me. If I get my pastor, my preacher, my imam, my rabbi to get involved and engage — if I get my block, if I get my school, my sorority, my fraternity, my union shop to get involved, then I will have done my job.'"

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to visit Detroit next week as part of a nationwide economic opportunity tour focused on investing in communities and “building wealth,” the White House said.

Trump has also promised to court Black voters this cycle in cities like Detroit and Atlanta, with Republicans saying they see a chance for the former president to make a dent in Biden and Democrats' historical advantages with voters of color.

Turnout among Black voters for Biden could taken on greater importance this fall because a number of Arab American and Muslim voters have said they could stay home or vote for other candidates if Biden doesn't shift his policy on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

Biden easily won Michigan's presidential primary  in February with 81% of the vote, according to unofficial results, though about 13% or 101,600 people registered their protest of the president by voting "uncommitted."

Biden won Michigan by 154,000 votes or 3 percentage points 51%-48% in 2020 over Trump, and the race in the state is expected to be tight again in November.

The NAACP's Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner dates to April 1956 and launched with former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall as the first keynote speaker.

Then-Sen. Kamala Harris of California spoke at the 64th annual dinner in May 2019 when she was running for the Democratic presidential nomination against Biden and others.

Past keynote speakers include former President Bill Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (in 2004 and 2016), Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Cory Booker of New Jersey, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Vice President Al Gore and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

"There's something about Detroit," Anthony said. "It's in the DNA, it's in the spirit of the branch."

Former Biden administration official plans to jump into New Hampshire House race

Maggie Goodlander poses for a portrait outside of the Department of Justice in Washington

Democrat Maggie Goodlander, a former senior official in the Biden White House and the Justice Department, is on the verge of launching a primary campaign against the hand-picked would-be successor to Rep. Annie Kuster, D-N.H., according to three sources familiar with her planning.

The move, which could come as early as this week, promises to bring national and international politics to the heart of a House race in New Hampshire when President Joe Biden is trying to keep the state's four electoral votes in his column.

Scott Merrick, an adviser to Goodlander, declined to confirm or deny that she will run — but he said a decision is coming soon. Kuster announced this year that she was retiring.

“Maggie is thankful for the encouragement she’s received from Granite Staters and will be making a decision in the coming days,” Merrick said.

Goodlander, who worked on domestic issues in the federal government — on antitrust at the Justice Department and on Biden's "unity agenda" at the White House — was a Navy intelligence officer and an aide to two senators known for their focus on foreign policy. But she also has a connection to the current policy debate over the Biden administration's positioning on hot-button issues such as the wars in Ukraine and Gaza through her marriage to national security adviser Jake Sullivan, who gives Biden counsel on those matters.

But Goodlander's path to Congress won't come without obstacles, starting with her Democratic primary opponent, Colin Van Ostern. Van Ostern, a former member of the state Executive Council, has already been endorsed by Kuster and dozens of current and former local officials.

Van Ostern's campaign declined to comment for this article.

While Goodlander's résumé in the Biden administration is formidable, she also worked as a senior adviser to the late Sens. John McCain of Arizona, a Republican, and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, a Democrat-turned-independent.

Though her multipartisan résumé might help in a likely competitive general election for the district, it could hurt her in the Democratic primary.

In addition, operatives in the state have raised questions about how long it has been since Goodlander actually lived and voted in the district. After she left her White House job last month, she now lives in Nashua.

Kuster has held her seat for over 10 years, but it is still rated by the nonpartisan "Cook Political Report with Amy Walter" as competitive, though " Likely Democratic ."

Several candidates are vying for the GOP nomination, including entrepreneur Vikram Mansharamani, who was a GOP candidate for the Senate in 2022.

And though the state at large is usually considered solidly blue, New Hampshire's independent streak puts it on the fringes of the presidential battleground, as well. In 2020, Biden won the state by just over 7 percentage points.

Biden visited the state in March after having shunned its first-in-the-nation primary, while former President Donald Trump visited the state multiple times before the GOP presidential primary there.

The price of loyalty: pga tour pros from jordan spieth to adam scott to chesson hadley react to the pga tour's equity ownership plan, share this article.

weekly visit plan

McKINNEY, Texas – On April 24, PGA Tour pros competing in the pro-am at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans couldn’t stop checking their phones. The reason? To tap refresh on their email and see if their notification of how much they had been allocated of $930 million in player equity shares that were divvied up to nearly 200 Tour members, or as one player put it, “Christmas in April,” had arrived.

Commissioner Jay Monahan originally detailed the Tour’s first-of-its-kind equity ownership program in a Feb. 7 memo to players. And it was why players experienced an uncontrollable urge to check their phones during play; it was so egregious that the Tour sent pros a memo reminding them of its phone usage policy.

Everyone wanted to know how much their loyalty was worth. The Telegraph reported Tiger Woods was to receive $100 million in equity and Rory McIlroy $50 million from a tier in which 36 players reportedly split $750 million. When McIlroy was asked at the Zurich Classic how much would make players feel validated for their decision to stay with the PGA Tour, he said, “I think the one thing we’ve learned in golf over the last two years is there’s never enough.”

We talked to a wide array of pros at the CJ Byron Nelson last week to find out how the rollout went and how they feel about being shareholders in the Tour’s new for-profit entity.

Chesson Hadley: 'The basement pays pretty good'

One of those players who had his phone out and received a memo with good news was Chesson Hadley. Last June, he was the first-round leader at the RBC Canadian Open after Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan stunned the world by announcing the framework agreement with Saudi Arabia’s PIF. Hadley, 36, remarked at the time that he would like to be compensated for his loyalty and the one-time Tour winner, ranked No. 297 and with earnings north of $12 million, was crucified for it.

“I chose the wrong pronoun. I said ‘I’ and people thought I was trying to be like I’m some world hero, golf hero that deserves it. I’m very aware of my career compared to the big fish who have stayed, I’m very aware of that,” he said last week ahead of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

“The basement pays pretty good. I have a good view from the basement.”

Hadley was pleased to receive his shares, something he said all players who finished in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup point standings received and noted that he was “blessed to be in the right place at the right time.”

“Some people deserve more, some people didn’t get any that probably should have but it’s not a perfect system,” he added. “It will be curious what the Tour looks like in 10 years. There’s never been a major sports association that hasn’t gone up in value, right? They keep growing. Teams like the Dallas Cowboys are worth $6 billion now and 10 years ago they were worth $3 billion. Hopefully, that’s the trajectory of the PGA Tour and everybody’s equity grows.”

Asked if being a shareholder in the Tour changes his view about LIV players returning, he said, “It makes me want some of them back more. My piece goes up immediately if Jon Rahm comes back. The Tour is instantly more valuable if he comes back. I would think my equity goes up if PIF becomes an investor but I don’t know.”

Adam Scott: 'I don't think anything the PGA Tour is doing right now is about spending time looking in the mirror'

weekly visit plan

As a player-director on the Tour’s policy board, Scott, 43, has had an intimate view of how the sausage has been made in forming the for-profit entity and dishing out shares in the new venture.

“Honestly, I’ve really only heard of a couple of disappointments from some people who didn’t receive any. Of course, you’d be disappointed if you thought you were going to get some equity or a grant and you didn’t,” he said, noting that no one had directly approached him but that’s what he had heard through the grapevine. “I don’t think there are any holes in the system that was devised. I was asked should Jack Nicklaus get the most? I don’t think anything the PGA Tour is doing right now is about spending time looking in the mirror. It’s about building a Tour for the future.

“Grants to the legends category was correct and I just don’t know how far you can go in giving grants to players of 20 years ago, for example, when it is more about now and looking forward.”

Scott said he wasn’t sure how big a carrot the shares would be for players but called it a “gift,” a “perk,” and a “bonus.”

“It’s not exactly the same as the retirement plan but I think it is an additional perk of being a Tour member and having a stake in the business,” he said. “In the years going forward, hopefully the business goes well and this equity is a real bonus.”

Does he expect player equity to discourage more players from jumping to LIV Golf for lucrative guaranteed contracts?

“I don’t think it was designed as a retention tool if you want to call it that,” said Scott, fifth on the career earnings list with more than $64 million in earnings. “I think the guys who have stayed so far will have a longer-term view of things and will appreciate what the equity is and not just throw that away and leave.”

Jordan Spieth: 'I think it's very confusing'

2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Spieth, age 30 and seventh on the all-time career money list with $62 million, is a fellow player- director on the Tour policy board. He was asked about the player equity program during his pre-tournament press conference.

“I had a couple players call me and say, wow, I didn’t know — they were excited about what their grants — I don’t know what their grants were. They were excited it was more than they thought it was,” he said. “I had conversations all the way back to even maybe just into the new year with some guys who missed out on it that would’ve made it other years. So I heard both sides.

“As far as the roll-out, I believe that it was made very clear to everybody that if anyone was confused in what it meant, how was it coming, and the roll-out specifically, there was PGA Tour officials every week that could sit down and explain any time anybody wanted to. I thought that was a good idea. I think it’s very confusing. It still is confusing for us players on when it’s vested, what’s the best idea for taxes, you know, stuff that we don’t — we all have people for that. That’s not what any of us do and it’s fairly complicated.”

Matt Kuchar: 'It feels like you're a shareholder now'

2024 Zurich Classic

Kuchar, 45, is 10 th  on the all-time money list with earnings nearing $60 million. He said he’s kept a low-key, head-down approach to the player equity plan.

“It feels like you’re a shareholder now. It’s kind of cool to be an investor in the original new entity, whatever that is,” Kuchar said, but added, “I don’t get real excited until the deal is done, until the money is in your account. I reserve some of the excitement until the deal is done. It’s a nice bonus.”

Kuchar has always been a good soldier for the Tour, willing to do a media interview, shake hands with sponsors, stop by a tent after the round. Asked if being a shareholder will make him more willing to do more, he said, “I feel like I have a good rapport with fans and they like that I smile and I look like I’m enjoying myself out there. I feel like that has gone as far for me financially as good golf has. That’s a way I’m an asset to the Tour. I’m fortunate that fans want to holler my name. Am I going to start a social media presence? I probably have such a tainted view of social media that it would be tough for me to actually be the one that does it, maybe if someone else does it on my behalf, maybe if that helps the PGA Tour and the stock, maybe. It’s a neat incentive to think about it as a shareholder if you can do something to help the Tour, you can also help yourself. It’s an incentive, for sure.”

Kuchar said his stake was what he expected. He didn’t have any problems with how it was handled but did express some disappointment with the signature event sponsor invites, particularly with the RBC Heritage, where he was a past champion. “I had high hopes on that one. That’s the one I thought I stood my best chance. I was bummed out. I thought I did the things you were supposed to do. A couple of days of being disappointed went away and I realized best to earn them,” he said.

[Kuchar learned on Sunday that he had received an exemption into the Wells Fargo Championship.]

Mackenzie Hughes: 'I wasn't waiting for a handout'

2024 Valspar Championship

Hughes, 33, has been a refreshing voice speaking out on the greed in the game during these turbulent times. He’s earned more than $15 million during his career and the player equity program wasn’t something he was spending too much time thinking about given the number of years before a player can vest.

“I think they could have done a better job. Some people have to vest for eight years and some guys don’t. You have to play 15 events but there are other guys like Tiger who isn’t going to play 15 events; he’s going to vest in other ways. That option isn’t going to be available for others. To me there are so many questions and loopholes,” Hughes said. “It’s not money that I expected. I wasn’t waiting for a handout, let’s put it that way. If it turns out to be something nice, great, but I haven’t put much thought into it.”

Austin Smotherman: 'I better check my spam'

2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Smotherman, 29, is playing this season out of the Nos. 126-150 category and splitting time between the PGA Tour (five starts) and Korn Ferry Tour (three starts) this season. He’s earned nearly $2 million on Tour during his three seasons. More than a week after the majority of players had received word about their equity ownership, Smotherman still was in limbo.

“I haven’t seen anything yet,” he said. “I was a full-status guy at one point, do I get any? Even if it is half of a half of a percent.”

He smiled. “I guess I’ve got to check my spam.”

But even Smotherman took solace in knowing that the program has an additional $600 million in equity grants that will be awarded in amounts of $100 million annually starting in 2025.

“Play better and there’s more equity to be had,” he said.

Transfer Big Man Confirms UNC Basketball Gets Last Visit

Clifford Omoruyi should receive UNC basketball's undivided attention the rest of the week.

  • Author: Matt Giles

In this story:

Former Rutgers center and prime UNC basketball target Clifford Omoruyi hasn't formally chopped his list down from the dozen he revealed a few weeks ago. But his list of visits likely indicates the bonafide contenders to land the 6-foot-11, 240-pound veteran giant.

RELATED: Tar Heels Sit One Piece Away From Absolutely Loaded Roster

And the Tar Heels are in an ideal position to seal the deal. According to On3's Joe Tipton, Omoruyi's tour of Chapel Hill, beginning on Thursday, will be the last visit in his recruitment.

Omoruyi, an All-Big Ten defender as a junior and senior who now ranks No. 11 overall on the 247Sports portal rankings, has thus far checked out Alabama, Georgetown, and Kansas State.

Rutgers transfer Clifford Omoruyi, the top available big man in the portal, will begin a visit to North Carolina on Thursday, he tells @On3sports . The 6-11 center says UNC will be his final visit. Has also been to Alabama, Georgetown, and Kansas State. https://t.co/e6RuCU8kGr pic.twitter.com/AZ7oRKYWhw — Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) April 30, 2024

UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his cohorts should have an enticing pitch prepared for Omoruyi, assuming that a potential big-time presence in the ACC is attractive to the 22-year-old as he ponders where he'll exhaust his final year of college eligibility.

After all, the Tar Heels haven't yet landed a big man from this year's transfer portal but have loads of playing time available down low due to the departures of full-time starters Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram.

As a senior starting all 32 contests for the Scarlet Knights, Clifford Omoruyi averaged 10.5 points and 8.3 rebounds, not to mention his Big Ten-leading 2.9 blocks per game. He's not a threat from deep and doesn't possess a wide variety of post moves, but he shot a respectable 51.2 percent from the field and 61.0 percent at the foul line this past season.
