About Weezer:

Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1992, currently consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals).  Weezer has sold 10 million albums in the U.S., and over 35 million records worldwide.  Their catalogue has included such megahits as “Buddy Holly,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Say It Ain’t So,” “El Scorcho,” “Hash Pipe,” “Island In The Sun,” “Beverly Hills,” “Pork and Beans,” and more.   Weezer has won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, and more throughout their career.  Following massively acclaimed album releases in 2016 and 2017 (Weezer [The White Album] and Pacific Daydream, respectively), and two sold out amphitheater tours with Panic! At the Disco (in 2016) and Pixies (in 2018), Weezer released a fan-inspired cover of Toto’s “Africa.”  The cover propelled the band back into the charts across the board, giving Weezer their FIFTH #1, TENTH Top 5, and SIXTEENTH Top 10 at Alternative Radio, in addition to landing Top 5 on the Hot AC chart.   It has since gone Platinum.  They then surprise dropped a covers album at the start of 2019 — Weezer (The Teal Album) — which has been streamed over a hundred million times since its release.  In 2021, Weezer released two very different but equally Weezer albums – OK Human, an orchestral pop album meditating on technology and disconnectedness, and Van Weezer, an homage to the band’s shared metal roots growing up.  OK Human’s first single, “All My Favorite Songs,” was one of the biggest rock hits of 2021, and was subsequently nominated for a Grammy for “Best Rock Song.” In 2022, the band released SZNZ, a four EP project inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and completed the European leg of the Hella Mega tour, which sold out stadiums in America throughout the year prior. In 2023, the band embarked on an incredible sold-out run across North America called the Indie Rock Road Trip, which was hailed as one of the best tours of the summer.

Smoke Doesn't Stop Weezer's Indie Rock Road Trip

Spoon and white reaper opened the show at white river amphitheater.

weezer tour 2023 seattle

Weezer’s Indie Rock Road Trip tour rolled through White River Amphitheatre on Sunday with co-pilots Spoon and White Reaper in tow. A headliner for all generations, Weezer had the dads dancing, the moms drinking, and the kids vaping! America’s hottest band teacher (lead singer Rivers Cuomo) has been Weezing since '92, and their songs haven’t left the radio since. “Beverly Hills,” “Say It Ain’t So,” that curious cover of Toto’s “Africa...” Even if you think you don’t know Weezer, you do. They've released 15 studio albums, and by golly Buddy Holly does it show in their live performance.

Before Weezer took the stage, an instrumental version of “Africa” played overhead and brought the crowd to attention. I haven’t heard that many people sing ba ba ba ba dop boom ba in unison since high school jazz choir! Under purple lighting, a black curtain fell to reveal an impressive road trip-themed set design. A shiny structure represented the sleek dashboard of a station wagon complete with steering wheel, radio dial, and Weezer logo—the audience was the driver. A screen behind the band played road trip illustrations, sometimes switching to live footage of the crowd. Drummer Patrick Wilson sat atop the Weezermobile for the duration of the set, which was very cool and also scary!

weezer tour 2023 seattle

As polished as Cuomo’s square glasses, the boys knew exactly what they were doing to us when they came out swinging with “My Name Is Jonas.” I’m convinced Cuomo (53-year-old boy-man) hasn’t aged physically or vocally since the '90s. Weezer’s entire set sounded like a recording—flawless, consistent, masterful. Cuomo and guitarist Brian Bell interacted with each other throughout, often meeting in the middle for some cool dad band shit like holding their guitars really high. The two demonstrated incredible skillmanship and even looked like they were having fun doing it.

weezer tour 2023 seattle

The group veered into “Beverly Hills,” Cuomo replacing the lyrics with “Seattle, Washington” a few times. Each time he did this, the singer cracked a grin as if trying not to laugh at his own joke. God bless the rains and God bless Rivers Cuomo. The rest of Weezer’s 90-minute set felt like a trip through the decades in the band's spaceship-sized station wagon. The group placed heavy emphasis on their first few albums, which basically qualify as classic rock now. The Indie Rock Road Trip wrapped up with “Hash Pipe,” which is probably something guitarist Bell had in his pocket the whole show.

weezer tour 2023 seattle

Spoon and White Reaper proved to be stellar openers. Spoon, another still-relevant '90s band, has mastered everything from indie rock to power pop. They dropped little snacks from their 10 studio albums like “The Hardest Cut” and “I Turn My Camera On.” I nibbled them up like a tiny field mouse and wondered if I was at a Weezer/Spoon co-headlining tour. Garage-punk White Reaper brought a loud, hard-hitting opening set with numbers like “Might Be Right” and “Judy French.” They delivered a kickass performance despite what began as a thin crowd.

weezer tour 2023 seattle

The amphitheater filled out when Weezer took the stage, but at what cost? Auburn was 195 on the Air Quality Index, which is considered "unhealthy" by the EPA. This is just six points away from "very unhealthy," which constitutes a public health alert. Ticket-holders flocked to White River Amphitheatre’s social media searching for answers. “Why is the show still happening?” “Will refunds be available?” WRA continued to post on social media throughout the night but failed to respond to questions or make an official statement. Live Nation really said, “Nothin’ to see here, folks!”

Smoke aside, Weezer was everything you would ever hope they would be and more. Engaging, polished, and locked in—their exceptional set design helped make the tour next level. Accompanied by the iconic Spoon and garage cuties White Reaper, I think I just went on the best road trip I’ve ever taken. Now beam me up, Cuomo! I know there’s room on that wagon!

Nostalgia for Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy draws fans to Seattle’s Hella Mega tour stop

Editor’s note:  Given rising COVID-19 case counts spurred by the delta variant, COVID-19 protocols and other details for events are subject to change. Please check your event’s website for the latest information, and heed local health authorities’ safety recommendations as they’re updated.

After postponements and pandemic peaks and valleys, pop-punk titans Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy will take their Hella Mega Tour to T-Mobile Park on Monday, Sept. 6, with openers The Interrupters.

Of course, this is no ordinary stadium show: This will be the first concert for many since pandemic restrictions were loosened, or at least the first with tens of thousands of other concertgoers. Meanwhile, the delta variant of the coronavirus has COVID-19 cases surging nationwide.

But delta concerns aren’t enough to deter lifelong fans, for whom these are more than just bands — they’ve scored the soundtrack to relationships, graduations and life events from adolescence and beyond. They’re living connections to memories.

“It’s a huge nostalgia factor,” said JJ Jang, 26, a health care worker who grew up in Olympia and lives in Seattle. (Her favorite of the trio is Weezer.)

“I had this cassette-to-phone player in my car. So I have these really vivid memories of sitting in my Kia in high school, my friends in the car. We all had very different tastes in music, so it was a battle for the aux cord — and whenever it was my turn, I was blasting these bands.”

Before those high school days of Fall Out Boy’s “ Save Rock and Roll ,” Jang remembers trading mix CDs with friends in middle school with Weezer songs (“ Island in the Sun ,” “ Buddy Holly ”) before graduating to the “Pork and Beans” music video she ripped off YouTube and onto her iPod Video.

So, yes, nostalgia is at the heart of this fandom.

“They say your music taste is supposed to mature as you get older, but mine stayed pretty much identical to whatever it was when I was in sixth grade,” jokes Jace Peterson, 26, of Chehalis.

He’s seen Green Day three times and says his parents are fans “because they’ve heard the songs so many times.” Mr. and Mrs. Peterson have been to shows, too.

Peterson remembers driving to an Olympia Best Buy in 2009 because there wasn’t anywhere closer to buy “21st Century Breakdown.” He was 14; mom drove.

“I was in the car listening to the album and she had to go into the mall,” Peterson explains. “I killed the car battery, because we had turned it on without starting the car and I just kept listening to the album.”

They had to get a jump-start.

JT Vizenor, residence life coordinator at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, relates to that connection. Jamming on the ride home after work at 1 a.m., Vizenor’s dad would wake the house up with “American Idiot” in the driveway. “Dookie” was the first record Vizenor bought on his own, and he’s seen the band eight times. (Yes, once with dad.)

Vizenor and his wife, Lauren, bought tickets for the Hella Mega Tour two years ago. Since then, the show was twice postponed, and Lauren’s favorite, Fall Out Boy, missed dates due to COVID-19 . Vizenor said that despite the looming worry of delta, they’re comforted being outdoors and having seats away from the pit. Mostly, they’re happy to hear music.

“I think there’s probably a little more [nerves] going to this show, only because of the traveling piece with it,” Vizenor said. “We can’t drive home. But we’re just excited to get back to it and do what we love.”

Like Vizenor, other fans mentioned the anxiety of returning to crowds, noting precautions they’ve taken — double masks, vaccinations. But rising case counts are forcing some to stay home.

HaiDang Feiler, 25, is a Seattle University law student who plans to commemorate her degree with a Fall Out Boy tattoo. She has memories of syncing songs on her first MP3 player and saw the band in 2017 at KeyArena. She took her little brother, raised on Fall Out Boy, by default.

For Feiler, songs like “ Thnks fr th Mmrs ” evoke images of her childhood bedroom in Olympia, of a road trip to Seattle with her best friend, of “a time where I was like, ‘Wow, I had no worries.’”

Still, pandemic worries trumped her desire to see Fall Out Boy this time around.

“I have a notoriously weak immune system; I am sick all the time and I am also paranoid. So I have this horrible fear of COVID,” Feiler says.

“My husband and I, we just recently got married, but we haven’t been able to see anybody. We’ve been staying away from crowds, so we can see family all together sooner.”

Even though she’s not going to the show, this music still plays on her heartstrings.

“It reminds me of a time when my brother and I were closer,” Feiler said, in terms of distance and in general. “It’s been a time of not seeing family, and [Fall Out Boy], they have this familial connection for me.”

Across generations of family and music hardware, these bands are the throughline. They have connected fans across time zones and age groups.

If that sounds dramatic, ask Dawn MacLeod.

MacLeod, 52, works for a bicycle parts manufacturer in Vancouver, Washington. A regular concertgoer with her husband, she’s seen Fall Out Boy 13 times in five states.

The band transports MacLeod to a time she found community while feeling isolated in her personal life.

“They’re a band that’s inclusive and embraces everybody, even the misfits,” she said. “I was feeling that way at my work, not being able to fit in, not being able to communicate. It helped me relate.”

MacLeod has followed the band as far as a hometown blowout at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. And during the pandemic, when these superfans couldn’t meet on tour, they Zoomed together from New York, Germany, England and beyond. One fan had seen Fall Out Boy 100 times.

MacLeod says the obsession is hard to explain, but there’s no place she’d rather be Sept. 6.

“It’s an escape for me, to block out everything else and enjoy the music,” she said. “Escape, community with the other fans. It just brings me joy.”

5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6; T-Mobile Park, 1250 First Ave. S., Seattle; $39.50-$159.50; masks required in stadium’s indoor areas;  ticketmaster.com

Recent tour reviews

We got there with plenty of time so we could enjoy the Wombats and Pixies. I had heard them all on the radio growing up. It was surreal and i found myself mezmorized with the talent before us. We brought my older children and my daughters friend (his first concert was an awesome pick). I was in awe of the talent before us. It was an amazing show from start to finish. Everyone enjoyed the music we were not disappointed. The only non positive was someone kicked my daughter in the back on purpose. She didn't let it affect her enjoyment of the rest of the show. Too bad some people can't be considerate, common sense isn't so common.

Thank-you to the artist for a fantastic show.

One of the best concerts I have ever been to!

Although it was highly choreographed, with multiple stage 'sets' and a time when Rivers (the lead) went all the way through the audience, picked up a guitar and did a few songs to the crowd on the lawn. They played all the songs you know and wanted to hear live from across their entire catalog. They also showed respect to rock history by doing covers of songs by The Animals, Green Day, Aha, and Toto (I don't get the current fascination with the song Africa, but it was cool to see Weezer play it).

The whole band seemed to be having fun and, while the set changes had lots of gimmicks (different looks, logos, fire, fireworks, etc.) it really worked and was super-entertaining.

I would absolutely go to see then again!

It has been ten years since I saw Weezer and, my, how they have slowed. I liked that the setlist leaned heavily to the older stuff, but I could do without the covers (Green Day, Oasis, Africa, etc.) Mostly, though, they need to do something to get people pumped - that shows they aren't just going through the motions. They can't be THAT much older than ... say ... Muse, right? And letting the crowd sing along a couple of times and riding a scooter around the venue won't cut it.

Fuerza Regida new album scores Pero No Te Enamores tour: How to get tickets, concert dates

Fresas y beliconas, get ready for another unforgettable Fuerza Regida tour.

The Mexican American band, hailing from San Bernadino, California, announced a 32-date U.S. arena tour produced by Live Nation on Tuesday. Fuerza Regida's Pero No Te Enamores Tour (But Don't Fall in Love Tour) will kick off June 6 in Austin, Texas, at the Moody Center, followed by a June 9 concert in Edinburg, Texas, at the Bert Ogden Arena.

The five-man group, fronted by singer Jesús Ortiz Paz, will also play dates in San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Antonio and Palm Desert. In October and November, Fuerza Regida will head to Mexico for seven shows before returning to the U.S. for its last show in Inglewood, California, at the Intuit Dome on Nov. 16.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Peso Pluma knows you know who he is. How the 24-year-old Grammy winner put Mexican music on the map.

Jesús Ortiz Paz of Fuerza Regida talks Mexican music's global rise

Fuerza Regida's upcoming nationwide tour follows a 2023 full of major accomplishments for the group.

In October, the group released its biggest album to date, "Pa Las Baby's Y Belikeada," which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Latin Albums chart and reached the Top 15 of the Billboard 200. Standout hits from the album include "TQM," "Sabor Fresa" and "Harley Quinn," which each charted on the Billboard Hot 100. "Harley Quinn," a collaboration with Marshmello, became the band's first-ever No. 1 hit on the Latin Airplay chart.

"Pa Las Baby's Y Belikeada" also earned Fuerza Regida a pair of awards — Top Duo/Group and Top Latin Duo/Group — at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards in November.

In a 2023 interview with USA TODAY, Paz spoke about Fuerza Regida leading the movement in expanding the global reach of Mexican music.

"We got into this business six years ago, and there was nothing like it," he said. "So, we're pioneers of this too. It took six years for us because everyone has a different career, but for us, to see Mexican music go global — there are no words. We're up with the rappers, the reggaetoneros. Mexican music's No. 1 right now."

Most recently, the band released its EP, "Dolido Pero No Arrepentido." The album debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums chart.

"The goal is to keep on staying on top, and like they say, 'Hard work beats talent.' So, we just don't stop working," Paz added. "And hopefully in the next six years, we're still on top, making global hits and still selling out stadiums and arenas — that's what we wish for, and hopefully it goes down."

When do Fuerza Regida tickets go on sale?

Tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time at livenation.com

Fans can also purchase VIP packages, which may include premium tickets, access to the VIP after-party with band members, soundcheck, a meet-and-greet, a group photo with Fuerza Regida, pre-show VIP lounge access, specially designed VIP gift items and more.
