That show, in SLC Utah, was phenomenal. They're just amazing people who worked so hard and got where they deserve to be. I enjoyed watching the result of their hard work, and I plan to watch more shows that come around. I want to see them succeed more and accomplish more stuff in the future. They're such great people, amazing artists, great role models for aspiring musicians everywhere, and (by the twitter videos) they're amazing parents. I'll always be a death bat, not only for their music but for them as human beings. God Damn.

Well, I'm not sure which show I'm supposed to review, so I'll do both. I saw them on Friday at shoreline amphitheater and then on Monday at golden one center. For the 1st show we had lawn tickets, it was still good. This was my 6th time seeing them. It was my 13 year old son's 1st concert. They always put on an excellent show.

Mondays show was the best one I've been to,my 7th time seeing them , because we were right up front on the floor. It was awesome. The crowd gets pretty aggressive, but I already knew that. I ended up being pulled out from security for trying to break up a fight, so that wasn't fun, but nothing against the band, they rocked.

What an amazing live performance. They kept the audience engaged the entire time. I'm not their biggest fan but there was a few songs that I wish had been on the set list that weren't. Then again, that's just my preference. Regardless, Matt has an amazing voice and I was blown away. The only thing that bothered me was that the sound mix seemed a bit off which sucks because that's obviously not the band's fault. At first the bass was so low that anytime the guitars started playing harmonies the sound got really thin/empty. Also I thought that Synyster was playing sloppily (which I would have been extremely surprised if that was the case) because some parts in his solos seemed inaudible but I finally realized that the guitars were getting smothered in the mix. I only notice this stuff because I play in a band and do live shows myself so it probably didn't bother too many people besides me. Overall, 10/10 live performance, and I would totally go see them again. (Hopefully at another venue)

AVENGED SEVENFOLD reveal opening acts for North American tour

Avenged Sevenfold haven't played a single show since 2018, but that's all about to change soon. In May, the O.C. metal titans will headline major festivals, and in June, they'll hit the stage for two release shows for their new album, Life Is but a Dream , one in L.A. on the 9th and another in NYC on the 23rd. Then in July, they'll kick off their first North American tour in five years, leg one primarily in Canada, leg two across the U.S.

Alexisonfire and Falling in Reverse, respectively, are set to play in the direct support slot on each of those two legs, but that's not all. Today (April 27th), A7X announced the opening acts for the tour and it's a fittingly eclectic bunch for a band that's as hard to pin down as Avenged. NOFX frontman Fat Mike's new band Codefendants will open the Life Is but a Dream record release show in L.A., while funk-metal pioneers Living Color will open the show in NYC. As for the North American tour dates, Revolver favorite Kim Dracula will open on both legs.

M Shadows has news about that Avenged Sevenfold album we're all waiting for

Avenged Sevenfold frontman M Shadows has shared details of the band's highly-anticipated eighth studio album

M Shadows has shared details on the progress of Avenged Sevenfold's eighth studio album.

Earlier this year, we learned via posts on drummer Brooks Wackerman and Shadows' Instagram accounts that the follow up to 2016's The Stage was heading towards the end of its recording process, and that the Orange County quintet were recording the album's 73-piece orchestral parts that got delayed due to the pandemic. 

In a new interview with  The Bob Lefsetz Podcast, Shadows has laid out the band's schedule, revealing that the new record could get released in late 2022 or early 2023.

"Status is interesting. We recorded an album, you know, a few years ago. We haven't finished it yet" he says.

"We kind of took some time off for family, COVID, weird touring circumstances, some changes within our team… And we are still currently with one record left on Warner Brothers Records. We'll be finishing that record up – I think we have May locked out [for when] our producer can get back to work on it, and then we're going to mix with Andy Wallace in August.

"And then we're going to figure out if it's the first quarter, or fourth quarter, or what we're going to do. So, the status is that, and then we're going to be booking tours, put the tickets on sale when the record comes out, and the whole nine yards."

Recently, in conversation with Metal Hammer , Shadows revealed that the new album was  "inspired by Kanye West" and "full of wacky ideas".

He explains, "There are so many influences… we’re very influenced by Kanye West. The thing about Kanye is that he is pulling from such great soul music. I didn’t grow up with that stuff – my dad listened to Boston and Alice Cooper, I didn’t get that taste of black music and old soul. So, diving deep into jazz musicians… we’re not trying to do a jazz record, but the chord changes and progressions are so eye-opening to us.

"The new frontier excites us; expect very wacky ideas!”

Avenged Sevenfold’s new album: Everything we know so far

Over five years on from The Stage, we’re finally getting closer to album eight from Avenged Sevenfold. And there’s a lot to get excited about…

While 2022 will undoubtedly bring a whole lot more uncertainty to the world, one thing that is for sure this year is that new Avenged Sevenfold music is finally on the way. The Huntington Beach metal kings have been working on the follow-up to 2016’s The Stage for quite some time now , but have experienced hold-ups due to the pandemic, as well as simply making the collective decision to delay the record until live music properly resumes.

Now, though, with confirmed European tour dates in the summer (and the word from M. Shadows that album number eight will be out before then), it’s time to round-up everything we know so far about A7X’s next steps…

The album should be out in the first half of 2022

As we just mentioned, Avenged’s first live show is currently happening in Belgium on June 17 – though of course they could have more lined up before then that haven’t been announced. And last July, M. Shadows told Louder Than Life that new material will be out ahead of the first performances of this new chapter: “We’re booking shows for next summer, and the record will be out before then,” he confirmed.

They’re hoping to have it all finished very soon

Speaking to Metal Hammer , the vocalist explained that in January the album’s strings will be completed by a 70-piece orchestra in Prague. Then, “we finish the record in February, mix it in March.” Since The Stage, a fairly casual approach has been taken with the whole thing, the band not rushing or breaking restrictions just to get it done. “We have all these things we can’t do,” M. told Kerrang! in December 2020 . “We’re still trying to get string sections together, and our mixer is older and I know that they don’t want him to travel right now because of COVID, so even if we got it done right now, we couldn’t get it mixed. So we’re just not worrying about it, you know? It’s like, ‘When we can, we can.’ But right now, we can’t ( laughs ).”

The band had good reason to take their time

“The reality is – and no-one wants to hear this – in this day and age, rock’n’roll just takes too long to make,” M. stated of not rushing things this time around with the state of the world as it was (and still is). “It’s going to be a three-year record to make. And if we put that record out and then we’re locked down for another year, as much as people don’t want to believe this, they are not going to give a shit about a record that came out a year prior when it’s time to tour. And so if it’s going to take us two or three years to write a record, we’re not going to put it out if we can’t go play it live.”

The album will have a huge accompanying stage show

…but, the creation of it has also been affected by coronavirus. M. told Loudwire , “We can’t get the supplies we need to build it, which there’s a supply chain problem as well. Go look at Long Beach, look at the port right now, and these boats are just stuck there. And so we have all these things going on where we’re not gonna come back onstage and have the stage from The Stage record and then just go, ‘Well, same show four years later. Sorry, guys. The record’s not done ’cause we couldn’t finish it.’

“So I would just say starting in January, we are gonna put our nose to the grind and we are gonna finish this record. And then we’re doing a couple of shows in Europe. And then I would love to – and I don’t wanna step on [festival organiser] Danny Wimmer’s toes here – but I would love to start at Aftershock [in October] and then book a tour out from there.

“So, we’re gonna be doing stuff. But yeah, it’s just kind of making sure we’re mentally there and we put our best foot forward when we do come out and make sure that’s all good.”

And NFTs will likely play a key part in the cycle somehow

Avenged got big into the crypto world last year, launching their own Deathbats Club – not just as a community for their listeners, but also by way of connecting with fans on a whole other level. In December, for example, they airdropped their NFT holders two free gig tickets, plus some exclusive art. Surely this is how they’ll start teasing out new material when the time comes, too?

New music is “wild”

“The record sounds nothing like The Stage,” M. told K! in December 2020 , “it’s a completely new direction, and it sounds nothing like anything we’ve done. That’s all I’ll say about it: it’s over the top, and it’s very eclectic and wild.”

Avenged Sevenfold Have Updated Timeline for Release of New Album

Avenged Sevenfold have been adamant that they won't release their next album during pandemic times due to the inability to support it on tour. That said, the band has been nearing the finish line for their first record since 2016's The Stage of late, and during a recent appearance on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast (heard below), M. Shadows revealed a revised timeline for the record's arrival.

In July of 2021, Shadows was quoted as saying he thought the new album would be out ahead of a proposed summer tour in 2022 . But as the summer months fast approach, that timeline has apparently shifted a little further back. Speaking with Lefsetz, Shadows suggest that a late 2022 or early 2023 was now more likely.

"Status is interesting. We recorded an album, you know, a few years ago. We haven't finished it yet. We kind of took some time off for family, COVID, weird touring circumstances, some changes within our team… And we are still currently with one record left on Warner Brothers Records. We'll be finishing that record up – I think we have May locked out [for when] our producer can get back to work on it, and then we're going to mix with Andy Wallace in August," explains the singer.

So with that timeline, the band will definitely miss the initial summer 2022 prediction. So where does that leave the album release status as of now? Shadows stated, "We're going to figure out if it's the first quarter, or fourth quarter, or what we're going to do. So, the status is that, and then we're going to be booking tours, put the tickets on sale when the record comes out, and the whole nine yards."

Little is known about the album at this point, as Shadows previously shared his desire to keep things close to the vest because things tend to change over the course of recording and something said publicly is often taken as gospel. The one thing that has been said about the album is that it has influenced by Kanye West , while also adding, "We’re not trying to do a jazz record, but the chord changes and progressions are so eye-opening to us."

In February of this year, drummer Brooks Wackerman shared that the band was "90 percent" done with the new album and offered photos from a session with 78-piece orchestra for the upcoming release.

As of yet, no dates have been booked by the band, but as Shadows stated, concerts will definitely be part of the plan surrounding the release of the album.
