Tips For Choosing a Seating Zone
Consider these tips when choosing a seating zone for your Chao Phraya River Dinner Cruise:
Rooftop (3-storey cruise only) : This is the most sought-after area as guests get an unobstructed view of the stunning skyline and landmarks. Due to its popularity, it's best to book early to secure your spot.
Upper-floor Open-air (2-storey cruise only) : This area offers a clear view under a roof making it suitable for all weather conditions. It has more lighting than the rooftop or front deck.
Front Deck : The view from this small outdoor area is breathtaking. It's relatively quieter compared to other zones. Guests won't find any live music or performances here, and food must be obtained from other areas.
Air-conditioned Room : This zone is a good choice for families with children or seniors. It's also a great option for those who want to avoid the heat during the summer or rain during the rainy season.
Pier Locations
There are three piers from which dinner cruises depart. To avoid missing the cruise and to have time to explore the shops or take photos before boarding, it's always a good idea to arrive early.
ASIATIQUE : This large open-air night market is on the "Phra Nakhon side". You can get there easily by taxi or by using the free shuttle boat service from Sathorn Pier (BTS Skytrain: Saphan Taksin), which runs every 30 minutes and takes around 15 minutes. It has a wide selection of dinner cruises, but the boarding area is often crowded.
ICONSIAM : This luxury shopping mall is on the "Thonburi side". You can conveniently reach it by taking the BTS Skytrain (golden line) or the free shuttle boat service from Sathorn Pier (BTS Skytrain: Saphan Taksin), which runs every 15 minutes and takes only a few minutes to arrive at the mall.
River City : This lifestyle mall is located on the "Phra Nakhon side" and can be easily accessed by taxi from the city center. It offers fewer cruises than other piers and is less crowded at the boarding area.

Most visitors come here to exercise and take part in year-round cultural events like musical concerts and traditional celebrations.
In the Thai sect of Theravada Buddhism district 1, Kositaram Woramahawihan, also known as Temple of the Bells, is a royal temple of the second grade of Woramahawiharn. King Taksin the Great built a palace close to Wat Bangwa Yai during the Thonburi era. He then had the shrine restored and classified the area as a royal temple for Somdet PhraSangkharat's home. There is also Phra Ubosot, which features a three-tiered roof in the emblematic Rattanakosin style, as well as brackets with beautifully detailed hangings and ridges that resemble teeth. PhraPrathanYim Rub Fa, a bronze Buddha statue in the posture of meditation with a width of around 4 cubits, was placed inside as Wat Rakang's main Buddha image.
The temple known as Wat Arun rises from the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the form of a missile. It was given the name Temple of Dawn in honor of Arun, the Indian god of dawn. After Ayutthaya was destroyed, King Taksin came across a tiny regional shrine here and saw it as a favorable sign that this area should be the new location of Siam's capital. The temple is now one of Bangkok's most recognisable buildings, not to mention one of the few Buddhist temples where climbing is permitted.
The impressive consecration hall of the Wat Kalayanamitr is sure to attract anyone's eye while traveling across the Chao Phraya river by boat. The temple's ordination hall, one of the tallest in Thailand, was constructed in 1825 by Chaophraya Nikonbodin. It contains a Buddha statue constructed of stone and gold that is 15 meters tall. The Wat Kalayanamitr is a wonderful tourist site thanks to the splash of vivid colors over its white walls, the enormous sitting Buddha, and its fascinating history. Numerous writings and well carved statues can be seen throughout the temple complex. According to legend, Chao Phraya Nikon Bodin was a close friend of King Rama III and an aristocrat in the early 1820s.
Asiatique is one of the most well-liked tourist destinations in the city, which serves as both a market square and a shopping district. On the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Asiatique may be located in the former docks of the East Asiatic Company. The port, which was constructed in 1897 but stopped operating in 1907, reopened as a shopping and entertainment area in April 2012. In addition to the well-known Calypso ladyboy show and the Muay Thai Legends extravaganza, there are currently more than 1,500 kiosks and businesses, 40 restaurants, and street stalls. Along with the 60-meter-tall Asiatique Skywheel, which is Thailand's biggest wheel.

Night of Indian food and music on a river cruise
Bangkok has no shortage of good Indian restaurants. Just walk down any touristic road in the city and you will come across at least one. In some areas, you’ll find dozens. However, if there is one place you couldn’t find any Indian food, it’s on the Chao Phraya river. Sure there are restaurants along the banks that serve but none on the river itself. That is until now with the recent launch of ARC – Arena River Cruise . ARC is the first-ever Indian dinner cruise in Bangkok and we were excited when they invited us to give it a try.
The evening began when we made our way to Asiatique, a riverside market. The best way to get here is to take the ferry from Saphin Taksin as the traffic can be really bad in this area. The pier at which the ferry from Saphin Taksin drops you is the same one where the dinner cruise picks you up from.
We get there around 6:30 and the dinner cruise was expected to arrive at 8 so we had quite some time to explore around. When the time arrived, the cruise made its way to dock at the pier and we all got on. We were quite hungry and quickly got on.
The food on ARC is a buffet-style spread of various classic Indian dishes. They were placed in the rear end of the cruise next to the staircase in a L-shape. Among the dishes were chicken karahi, malai chicken tikka and fish tikka. There were also vegeterian dishes such as palaak paneer, daal and paneer tikka. To along with the curries and tikkas, there was naan, veg biryani and white rice. For the starters there was a mock duck salad and a chicken kati roll.
We both agreed that the presentation of the food could be improved. It looked quite basic and bland. We understand that it is a new company so they are testing things out probably but there is ample room for improvement. Lighting could also be enhanced so that guests can take better photos of their food and of each other.
Flavor-wise, the best dish of the night was definitely the chicken karahi (bottom left) and the kati roll – worth 2-3x rounds. Biryani was also quite delicious and flavorful. However, the paneer tikka and daal could be better.
Entertainment
Indian food isn’t the only thing on this cruise. What makes it really interesting and unique is the live music. At first as you indulge in the dinner spread, you are lulled to classic and contemporary songs sung by a man and woman duo. You are also encouraged to request your favorite songs and they really do their best not to disappoint.
We must admit at first we were a bit nervous how we are going to pass 2 hours of our time as we finished eating in the first 45 minutes. The singing was nice but we were ready to fall sleep. Not moments later, however, the male singer brought out a dhol . Now if you’re a Punjabi or have experienced the vibes around a dhol, you know things are going to get livelier.
Sure as gold, it did. Within minutes everyone on the boat were on their feet dancing as if they were at a club or wedding.
Believe us, you will be the only people on the Chao Phraya river, dancing ( bhangra-ing ) to Bollywood and Punjabi music. It will be sure to turn heads from passing boats and cruises.
Views from the cruise
Lastly, the magnificent view of Bangkok along the river is a marvel on its own. Couple that with the food and music, it’s a night well spent. With almost 2.5 hours on the cruise, it gives you plenty of time to take some photos of beautifully lit buildings and restaurants along the river.
Asiatique riverfront
Rama VIII Bridge
Basically you get everything in one package deal – a view of Thailand and a taste of India.
Overall, a great concept and a fun way to experience Bangkok for anyone who enjoys Indian in a unique setting. Since they are new, as we mentioned before, there are room for improvements. Keep an eye out for ARC in the future. It can only get better.

Pure Indian Cruise
The river princess is the best one especially for Indian !! The Host is really thumbs up...shes got excellent Voice with bollywood numbers. great indian food on board...
The price was quite expensive per pax. Our boat was Chao Phraya Princess V. The boat was pretty and clean. We bought the lower deck seating for the non smoking area. First we got seated close with other group but once the ship left the dock, we got moved to empty window seat so we appreciated the staff's gesture. The extra drinks were quite expensive but the mojito we ordered tasted good. The servers were also all smiling and friendly. The food was international buffet. We loved the menu and felt so full after the dinner. We loved their cheese clam, padthai and tomyum soup. The buffet kept getting refreshed during the dinner time. The dessert however was a different story, there were only cake type dessert. We got tired eating cake and wished for something else like mousse or pudding. The entertainment was lounge singers. They were quite good and interacted with the guests well. We were walking around the top deck for a while and enjoyed the breeze. We got to see Wat Arun temple at night and few other landmarks during the cruise. This cruise was a unique experience for us.
one of the delightful cruises in the world! we thoroughly enjoyed it from waiting time to cruise time to dinner time and everything in between . the 2 hour long journey flew away just like that ! 5* with pleasure Titu & Arny Rahman Bangladesh
I visit them every year but this time i dont know why the indian food which used to be damn good was not even avg. Spices and grains were not upto mark as it used to be earlier Aste of food was not like .... Highly recommended or something
Seriously... My husband and I paid 2,800THB for a floating cafeteria. Biggest scam we've experienced in Thailand. I am beyond bummed!! Four HUGE issues. 1. Terrible food. 2. Zero organization. 3. Obnoxious karaoke style entertainment. 4. Pre-arranged seating... 1: The food was terrible. I have a shellfish allergy and it hasn't been the slightest issue my two weeks in Thailand- but 9/10 options on this cruise would send me into anaphylactic shock. My options were plain spaghetti noodles, spicy ground beef, white rice, mixed vegetables (that tasted like they were from a freezer bag), fried chicken wings, a beef of some sort in gravy, naan (with no curry or anything to go with it), a kimchee salad and mixed salad greens. There were shrimp or clams or prawns in EVERYTHING including both soups, the fried rice and all stir frys! Drinks were around 300THB for alcoholic- 70THB for pop. If you are a vegetarian you're screwed. If you want Thai food you're screwed. If you don't like seafood (or can't eat it) you'll leave starving. 2. When it was time to board everyone just shoved and pushed their way like cattle. It was insanely inefficient. When it was time to eat it was a free-for-all. I waited for things to settle down meanwhile some people went up for seconds before I had a single bite!! 3. A gal sang (out of tune) to a back up tape the entire time. She started with cheesy love ballads and switched to hip hop at the end. Either you listen to that or step outside and inhale other's cigarette smoke. No thanks!! It was torture. Pure torture.... 4. Your seats are preselected. I ended up sitting in the lower deck next to the buffet. All I could see was people pushing and shoving for food. The views were completely lost on me because of the glare and the heads I was trying to look over. IF you managed to score a seat on the top deck on the outside it wouldn't have been so bad. ........ I tried to book another dinner cruise that featured Thai cuisine and Thai dancers in traditional wear. The hotel booked this for me instead and I went in blind. It was by far the biggest disappointment of my trip and my largest regret. Just don't do it. STAY AWAY!!
I went on this cruise with my cousin on a balmy Bangkok nite. We liovedi it wonderful meal, great music in English by band onboard. Even pushed me to dance which I don't normally do (so I must have enjoyed myself) met people from all over world, with one thing in commen, we had a ball! Awesome sights & lights as we cruised into the nite.
