The main street of "old town" of Seal Beach - is - on Main Street :)

Charming cafes, restaurants, shops are housed in small, quaint, 1800's preserved buildings along Seal Beach's old town Main Street. Worth a leisurely jaunt - and an edible and/or drinkable experience (outdoor dining b.t.w. right now, due to COVID)! Enjoy!

There was a group who were taking lessons surfing. Even though the waves were gentle, it gave them confidence. A pleasure to watch.

One of the most original and special beach cities in California. Not a planned community with artificial enhancements, but an old school California beach town full of charm and locals.

Small town feel! Great walkability to lots of little shops and restaurants. Beautiful sunsets and the pier is great for people watching and to watch the surfers. One of the best places in SoCal!

main street travel of seal beach

While on vacation, took my wife and her sister to Bell Gardens to reminisce about houses they lived in and Jr High and High School, FYI I am a land locked OKIE, wife wanted to go to Seal Beach, where she hung out as a teenager. SO we went. Main Street and lot's of eatery's and parking was curb side. We walked out on the pier and it was Beautiful, Lot's of sand and very wide. There were lots of young people on the beach playing and having fun. Be aware old men, lots of skimpy swim ware. I had no ideal that a beach this beautiful was so close to LA. NICE. We ate at The Hangout, close to the pier. Outside seating, (Covid) and the food was really good. It was a good afternoon. Area was clean and well kept. Enjoy.

So what happened with the social distancing? They can close the churches but not the beach? That's how people are going to get even more sick.

Welcome to seal beach.

Seal Beach is the first taste of Orange County that travelers get when they are driving down the coast. Just off the Pacific Coast Highway, visitors can catch a glance at the iconic wooden Seal Beach Pier and head straight to Main Street, which features dozens of shops and eateries along a picturesque strip that’s just a few blocks long. From the beach here, you can catch views of the Long Beach Harbor skyline. If you look to the southwest, you can see Catalina Island. These classic coastal landscapes are both particularly awesome at sunset.

Fun For Everyone

While the famous Seal Beach seals aren’t as common as they once were, visitors might get to see a few in less populated stretches of the coast they are more likely to congregate. And if you miss them, you can still say hello to Slick, the bronze statue of a coastal pinniped on the Seal Beach pier.

The Red Car Museum is a must for lovers of trains or transportation history buffs. This rescued tower car is a relic of the now-defunct rail car system that once connected the major cities in Southern California. The century-old Red Car is filled with artifacts from the time when it would have brought commuters from Orange County to Los Angeles. Start here and walk down Electric Avenue Median Park to the end of Seal Beach and then back to the pier and up Main Street. This makes for a great loop of Seal Beach’s greatest attractions and scenery.

Seal Beach Seal

An Outdoor Adventure

Seal Beach is surrounded by protected natural areas that are helping to restore the population of local wildlife. Los Cerritos Wetlands mostly lie in a neighboring section of Long Beach and is a protected habitat for many California birds.

The San Gabriel River Bike Trail runs along the San Gabriel River that separates Seal Beach from Los Angeles county. This 28-mile cyclist’s paradise covers undiscovered, peaceful tracks of Southern California ending at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.

In the southern part of the city, there is the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge, protected land set aside for wildlife in Anaheim Bay.

There is so much to do in Seal Beach. Join the fun!

Getting here, orange county beaches, explore orange county.

Hip hangouts, hidden gems, and in the heart of Orange County.

A hub for adventure seekers, foodies, and history buffs, make Buena Park your next destination.  5 minutes from the Disneyland ® Resort, Buena Park is centrally located in northern Orange County.  The entertainment hotspot is a must-visit for those looking to add hair-raising thrills, delightful dishes, and historical interest to their itineraries.

Located just minutes from famous Orange County beaches, Costa Mesa welcomes you with a vibrant array of performing arts and public art on display, a killer foodie scene and diverse shopping, from the world’s top fashion designers to unique local goods.

Dana Point remains an overlooked treasure in Southern California. While the state is known for its fast-paced cities and thrilling attractions, Dana Point is where you go for a more relaxed pace of travel. You can walk along the beaches that surround the quaint village that has sprung up around them.

Garden Grove

Just on the other side of Anaheim’s Harbor Boulevard lies Garden Grove. Garden Grove is a vibrant Southern California city in the middle of all the action.

Huntington Beach

There are many great surf towns on the Orange County coast, but few are as famous as Huntington Beach. In fact, Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City USA, hosts the annual Vans US Open of Surfing.

Welcome to Irvine, California!  The urban community is often recognized for livability, with planned communities, globally inspired cuisine, and plein-air shopping.  It’s also a wonderful destination for travelers who want to be at the heart of it all.  John Wayne Airport (SNA) is conveniently located just minutes from most of Irvine hotels.

Laguna Beach

A trip to Orange County isn’t complete without a visit to Laguna Beach. Laguna is a refined upscale beach city, regularly listed as one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. It’s the Hollywood star residents and their ocean-view mansions that have earned this area’s nickname, “The Gold Coast.”

Newport Beach

From strolling around Balboa Island grabbing a frozen banana to basking in the seaside charm, Newport Beach is Orange County’s most family-friendly beach city.

City of Orange

Just across the Santa Ana River is the City of Orange, a unique piece of city planning. The center of the city is situated around a roundabout and is shaped like, you guessed it, an orange! The circle surrounds Plaza Park, which is the heart of Orange and the site of the annual Orange International Street Fair.

San Clemente

While Orange County is one of the most urbanized parts of California, San Clemente is where the development takes a little break. Here, the Pacific Coast Highway enters a long stretch of emptiness and the traffic of I-5 becomes a bit more relaxed. The beaches here are less crowded, have great surfing, are relatively quiet and many feature seaside campsites.

San Juan Capistrano

The San Juan Capistrano Mission was the first European settlement in what is now the state of California, back when it was still New Spain. You could say, this mission is where the story of the state as we know it began and history buffs won’t want to skip a visit to this historic settler church.

Nicknamed the "Downtown of Orange County," Santa Ana is brimming with richly diverse experiences. Come walk the lively streets of our historic downtown. Bask in the colors of vibrant murals and art, savor the flavors of authentic cuisine, and explore a world of experiences at our famed festivals.

Main Street in Old Town Seal Beach represents iconic and historic California. Much has changed along the coast, yet this small city has kept its old-school and nostalgic flavor, just the way we like it. I think it’s the best main street with an old town vibe in Southern California. Pick up a copy of community newspaper, The Sun, to check the latest happenings. Gentlemen, settle in for a proper barber experience at the Main Street Barber Shop. Dine at Walt’s Wharf for fresh seafood. Follow the scent of cinnamon rolls to Sweet Jills. And if you’ve still got some zest in you, go bar hopping from the Abbey to O’Malley’s to the local dive bar, Clancy’s.

Coastal Orange County

Where Main St ends, Seal Beach Pier begins, extending 1865ft over the ocean. The 1906 original fell victim to winter storms in the 1930s and has since been rebuilt three times with a wooden boardwalk. It’s splintery in places, so wear shoes (no high heels!). Snap a picture of the playful bronze seal standing guard at the pier’s east entrance – he may be the only one you see.
