With less than a month go until the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie —the hotly-anticipated Margot Robbie -starring blockbuster is set for release on July 21—the team at Airbnb has taken over a Malibu mansion and revamped it as the Barbie Dreamhouse of your, well, dreams. According to Airbnb, the story of how this hot pink paradise (which was first spotted by social media sleuths from aerial footage over the weekend) begins with Barbie heading away for the weekend and handing over the keys to her beloved Ken, who took it upon himself to list the property for a few lucky visitors to experience via the home rental platform. (So … thoughtful?)
As such, there are not only all of the mod-cons you might expect from a Barbie Dreamhouse —an infinity pool, a bar, a home gym with ocean views, and enough pink to put Pepto-Bismol out of business—but a few of Ken’s touches, too. Notably, you can “feel the Kenergy” by trying out the skates and surfboards he might have left around the house. You can channel your inner cowboy with a line dance on the light-up disco dance floor, or simply laze by the pool and top up your Ken-worthy tan. For the truly committed, you can even dress up like Ken, thanks to a fully-stocked closet bursting with beach-ready looks.

While a stay at the Dreamhouse is available free of charge—Airbnb is offering a handful of guests the chance to enjoy one-night stays around the movie’s release at the end of July—there’s a small catch: To earn the chance to book Ken’s bedroom, you’ll have to put in your request on July 17 at 10 a.m. PST on the dot via the Airbnb website , where the competition to secure a stay is sure to be fierce. It’s time to learn for yourself whether life in plastic really is that fantastic.

Come on, Barbie, let’s go party — at the real-life Malibu Dreamhouse.
Airbnb announced Monday that the hot-pink, beach-side mansion inspired by the toy home of the same name will be available to book for a limited time next month — with a twist. This time, Barbie’s blond beau, Ken, will be hosting.
The property rental company and Warner Bros. have joined forces to promote “Barbie” — the summer comedy starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling — by inviting “everyone in Barbie Land” to enter for a chance to win a one-night stay at the luxury estate.
For $60 a night, you can stay in Barbie’s real-life Malibu Dreamhouse on Airbnb
Airbnb users will soon have the opportunity to live in a Barbie world. Mattel has listed its Malibu Dreamhouse to celebrate the doll’s 60th anniversary.
Oct. 17, 2019
“We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them,” Ken said Monday in a statement.
“But now, it’s my turn, and I can’t wait to host guests inside these one-of-a-kind – dare I say, one-of-a-Ken? – digs.”
Starting July 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, anyone can request to book Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse on Airbnb . The company will select four lucky guests (two per night) to spend a night at the oceanfront villa for free on July 21 and 22.
According to a press release, “Ken couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse — after all, Ken’s thing is beach, not math!”

The listing welcomes guests to take “a spin through Ken’s awesome wardrobe to find their best beach fit,” channel “their inner cowboy” while participating in “a line dance or two on Ken’s outdoor disco dance floor,” challenge each other to a “beach off,” sunbathe by the infinity pool and take home “a piece of Kendom” by leaving with a set of rollerblades and surfboards.
Other features of the Ken-ified dreamhouse include a cowboy-themed salon, an observation deck with a telescope overlooking the ocean, an outdoor bar and grill, an outdoor gym and a deck with a fire pit.
On his Airbnb profile, which features Gosling’s character poster for “Barbie,” Ken says he lives his life “by two Bs: Beach and Barbie. And rollerblades if you count that B.”

“There’s so much stuff to do [at the Dreamhouse] — some days, I’m not sure what to do first,” his profile reads.
“I mean, do you catch waves before or after firing up the grill? And how do you know when to visit the horses? Anyway, I’m excited for you to stay the night so you can do it all and more!”
This isn’t the first time Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse has popped up on Airbnb. In October 2019, the residence was briefly available to rent for $60 a night.
The latest Airbnb listing for Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse is just one facet of the robust marketing campaign Warner Bros. and Mattel have launched for “Barbie.” Leading up to the film’s release, the movie studio and the toy company have created custom dolls based on the characters, partnered with Xbox to add Barbie and Ken’s cars from the film to the racing video game Forza Horizon 5, teased “Barbie’s Dreamhouse Challenge” on HGTV, dropped a new disco anthem by Dua Lipa (who also appears in the film) from the “Barbie” soundtrack and hosted advance screenings of the film, among other things.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, “Barbie” opens in theaters July 17.

I Toured Barbie’s (and Ken’s) Real-Life Malibu DreamHouse
Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse has just been relisted on Airbnb—but now, Ken has the keys. The Daily Beast’s Obsessed got an early look at the mansion, in theme for the ‘Barbie’ movie.

It’s barbie week at the daily beast’s obsessed, celebrating the doll’s pop-culture history, our favorite barbie memories, and a certain major movie. read all of our coverage here .
Never have I ever felt more like royalty than the day I was invited to tour the Barbie DreamHouse .
The real-life DreamHouse appeared—or rather, “spawned,” as some news sources claimed, as if it were a spiritual entity—in late June, as a part of the ongoing promotional tour for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Barbie movie. This privately owned mansion has always had bubbly pink features (though now it’s been painted pink completely)—Los Angeles’ finest installation of “ Barbiecore ” before “Barbiecore” even existed. Now, the owners have revamped it to tie into the movie. Even better: Fans of the film have the opportunity to rent this place out on Airbnb.
While the house was rent-able for a period of time in 2019 , it’s been relisted on the couchsurfing site: “Welcome to my Kendom!” Ryan Gosling’s Ken has written (or rather, “written”) on the listing. “While Barbie is away, she has handed over the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer and my room could be yours for the night. I’ve added a few touches to bring some much-needed Kenergy to the newly renovated and iconic Malibu DreamHouse. Placed perfectly above the beach with panoramic views, this life-size toy pink mansion is a dream come true!”
And because “Ken’s thing is beach, not math” and he “couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse,” all rentals are free. Hallelujah! The one catch, though: The DreamHouse is only available for two nights, July 21 and 22, and only has enough space for two people to stay each night. The first people to hit “reserve” on Airbnb when the listing goes live on July 17 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT will secure the available slots.
Instead of trying my hand at winning a sleepover at the DreamHouse—even if I was lucky enough to win, I’m not sure if I’d feel worthy enough to sleep in Ken’s plush bed, so I’ll leave that to other folks—I journeyed up the Pacific Coast Highway last month for a day trip. I got a special, early chance to slide into Ken’s new infinity pool and take Barbie’s pink convertible for a spin. Well, not really. The slide led to a fake, toy-styled pool, and the “convertible” was really just a golf cart that led me up a long, winding hill past the gates and into Barbie’s dream world.
Joyce Lee/Airbnb
Situated in the northern hills of Malibu, overlooking both the waves crashing beneath PCH and the rocky hills of Los Angeles, the DreamHouse is barely visible from any of its surrounding areas. Without traffic, you’d have to drive for about 45 minutes past Santa Monica to reach the hill where Barbie has wedged her DreamHouse between rocks. As I was driving, I could only spy a dot of pink from the highway before I turned in and was met by a security guard.
After a quick golf cart ride up a steep, steep hill, I reached the pearly pink gates. No, not heaven—better: the Kendom.
The ground floor is, by far, the most intricate, pink, and best out of the mansion’s three floors. The infinity pool flows out, rolling over the hills, and—if you squint—it appears to be part of the ocean. Those “KEN” balloons spotted in Airbnb’s original listing were gone by the time I visited, but a mass of floaties tumbled around in the water instead. A pink slide spirals into the pool, but it comes just short of the actual water. If you were to slide down, you’d land on your butt; in the movie, Barbie floats down and walks on top of the water.
Outside, Ken (who’s not there, but he’s left a bunch of his stuff behind) is grilling some plastic chicken and steak on his fake barbecue. A human-sized barbecue is also tucked into the pink outdoor oasis, which is less decorated than the open-air bedroom right beside the patio.
Fletcher Peters/The Daily Beast
Inside the bedroom—which only has one free-standing door, a saloon-esque entryway painted with horses—Ken has really let his western flag fly. Cowboy hats sit in a crown above the still-Barbie pink velvet bed, though a new cow-print duvet rests upon the mattress. Ken has brought his (plastic) horse and given him/her a pink boa. Barbie’s vanity has been invaded by cologne (engraved with the year 1961, when Mattel released the Ken doll), Ken’s plastic keys, and other fun trinkets.
The stand-out in the bedroom is Ken’s closet. Everyone in the Malibu hills probably heard my excited screech when the tour guides said I was allowed to try on any of Ken’s clothing. Everything—from his fluffy fur coat to the black western button down with a bandana ascot—is available to wear. Ken even has a spinning platform to stand on, so that visitors can get shots of their outfits in motion. How stylish!
The second level is decked out for a disco. Vinyls sporting horses on the cover are on display. Ken’s rollerblades rest somewhere on the disco ball-lit dance floor—maybe I’d try those on too, if I wasn’t so afraid I’d fall and crack my head open. I was alone on the dance floor, unfortunately. I wish I’d invited some friends to throw on the Barbie soundtrack (or some horse noises?) and dance the night away.
Finally, we head up the steps to the top floor, which has a gorgeous view of the ocean. Want to look even further? Ken’s telescope will give you a closer look at the wonders beyond the DreamHouse. The doll’s gym sits atop the house, with equipment that is perpetually in motion—the basketball is always in the net, the dumbbells already lifted. Ken doesn’t need to work out! He’ll always have perfectly sculpted abs.
I’m told there’s a prop from the movie on the roof: a big tub of “Beefy Body Brine.” It’s “the manly man’s meal” with a “premium protein blend for muscly men.” The flavor is chocolate. Does this reveal anything about the plot? Who knows! Maybe it’s a potion that confuses Barbie. Or maybe it’s just another toy. Maybe some readers can try to guess what it means.
Mysterious...
After a few last-minute photos and videos with the props, it’s time for me to head out. Say what you will about the Barbie promo —it’s gauche, it’s turning you off to the movie, it’s too pink—the Barbie DreamHouse is a masterpiece. This is artistry and commitment to moviemaking at the highest degree. The one downside is that only four lucky folks will have the opportunity to stay here, when in fact, this Airbnb should be turned into a museum. At least we can buy the original miniature set instead!

You Can Spend a Night in Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse

In the upcoming movie Barbie, the eponymous doll will leave Barbieland to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Upon hearing of her impending absence, it would appear, Ken has put her house up for rent on Airbnb . Indeed, the latest development in Barbiecore's snowballing invasion of our lives is the arrival of a Barbie-owned, Ken-hosted Malibu DreamHouse on the home rental service. On July 17, four days before the film's release, bookings will open for two lucky guests to scoop up a free night each at the property. Two lucky winners will get a free night each. Fear not if you miss out, for this is not the only way to get in on the action.
A quick definition of Barbiecore: vibrant pink, done unapologetically and to excess. We at Traveler are no strangers to the color, highlighting in years past the world’s best pink sand beaches and most beautiful pink places . Those spots, rest assured, remain pink and can and should be incorporated into your summer itineraries. Do so with these lifestyle flourishes—the aforementioned Airbnb for two, pink hotels for everyone else, plus pink suitcases and pink attitudes—in mind.

The Barbie DreamHouse sleeps a maximum of two guests.
Stay like Barbie
A few days ago, aerial shots of a conspicuously hot pink mansion in the Malibu hills began appearing on Twitter . Barbie 's marketing campaign had been, heretofore, lavish to say the least, and speculation that an entire property had been brought into the fold was soon confirmed with the news that a Malibu DreamHouse would soon be listed on Airbnb . The conceit is that Ken, not Barbie, is hosting the property, and amenities include access to Ken's beach wardrobe. An outdoor disco dance floor, pool, and a take-home gift of yellow-and-pink Impala roller blades (more on those momentarily) are also included.
If you miss out on the Airbnb (booking opens here July 17 at 1 p.m. ET), know that there are quite a few deliciously pink hotels open year-round to be booked at your convenience. The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club in St. Petersburg is a perfect baby pink, as is The Royal Hawaiian if you have eyes for Oahu. Closer to Venice Beach, where Barbie is bound, is The Beverly Hills Hotel . They don’t call it the “Pink Palace” for nothing—lounge by the pool in a pink-and-white striped cabana, dine on the coral terrace, and generally indulge in your most glamorous fantasies at the storied spot.
Move like Barbie
Even if you don't manage to score the Airbnb and, as a result, don't go home with a free pair of the Impala skate equipment featured in the film, you can still get your feet into a pair. The first drop sold out on Impala's website, but a whole new batch is now up on Zappos for anyone looking to brighten up their gear. Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken can be seen in the Barbie trailer sporting the getup on what may be their first excursion into the real world. That they are met with leering looks and laughter on the Venice Beach boardwalk should be chalked up to their full-scale neon attire—the skates and their accessories totally fly standing alone.
Pack like Barbie
When Barbie embarks on her road trip, the only thing in her backseat, it turns out, is Ken. No luggage. As the film’s producers told Architectural Digest , Barbie and her wardrobe are not necessarily constrained by the material laws of object permanence. This is not the case for the rest of us—your clothes need to be packed if you want them to come with you. Were Barbie to pack a suitcase, what suitcase would that be? Perhaps a number or two from the new Béis x Barbie The Movie luggage collection, which drops July 19 in tandem with the movie's release? On the market are hot pink weekender bags, hot pink hard-shell rollers, and hot pink cosmetic cases, just to name a few.
The striped pink Illustrator bag from SteamLine nails the trend.
If you need a Barbie-inspired bag now, however, fear not—just be prepared to pick a more demure pink. Away ’s neon pink options for bigger baggage may have already sold out, but their accessories, including the packing cubes , come in a soft petal pink perfect for a toned-down Barbie. SteamLine has some stunning options that make me think of the sewing boxes in which my own sister stored her Barbies back in the day, the best being some pink-and-white striped leather pieces reminiscent of Barbie’s glorious gingham. If you want to step outside pink—as Barbie very much does!—the brand also has a canary yellow colorway that’s just as chipper.

Barbie’s invited some of her most accomplished and entrepreneurial pals along to welcome and inspire her guests throughout the stay. How to Rent the Real-Life Barbie Malibu Dreamhouse on Airbnb
This mansion has Big Ken Energy—but it's only available for two lucky guests.
Every item on this page was hand-picked by a House Beautiful editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.
“We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them,” said Ken. “But now, it’s my turn, and I can’t wait to host guests inside these one-of-a-kind—dare I say, one-of-a-Ken?digs.”
Located in California's sunny Malibu, Barbie's pink palace has been decked out with some special features that have Ken's seal of approval. A disco roller rink to show off your very best skating moves? Check. A gym to help Ken keep his plastic biceps in shape? You betcha. In fact, there's even a sandy area should you feel so inclined to challenge someone to a "beach-off." And, of course, the Malibu mansion has all of those essentials that make Barbie’s Dreamhouse oh-so-dreamy in the first place. (Highlights include a pink-to-perfection bedroom, supersized pool , and closet that could even rival Barbie’s!)
The catch? Availability is limited. Airbnb is giving away two one-night stays on July 21 and July 22, 2023—and each reservation only accommodates two guests. (You know, so you can get some quality time with your life’s Barbie…or Ken…or Midge…) Guests can request a stay at this Ken-friendly home on Monday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. PST. While rates for the one-night stays have yet to be disclosed, it’s worth noting that guests are responsible for transportation to and from Malibu.
That said, the four lucky visitors aren’t the only ones embracing all-things Barbie. To celebrate the movie’s debut—and this awesome listing—Airbnb will make a one-time donation to Save the Children , which provides learning resources and support to children, families, and communities in 100+ countries to build girls’ confidence and help them thrive in school. Because, as Barbie and her Dreamhouse proves time and time again, anything is possible. (Yes, even rocking some epic moves in a disco roller rink.)

Ever wanted to stay in the Barbie DreamHouse? Now you can, but there's a catch
By C Mandler
June 27, 2023 / 5:29 PM EDT / CBS News
The Barbie DreamHouse In Malibu, California, is now on Airbnb for a limited time only — but houseguests, beware: It's been Ken-ified.
"Welcome to my Kendom! While Barbie is away, she has handed over the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer and my room could be yours for the night," says the listing, allegedly written by Barbie's beau, who says he lives his life by two Bs: "Beach and Barbie. And rollerblades if you count that B."
Spotted this thing from 10 miles away flying over #Malibu today. Is that a.... real life #Barbie Malibu House?? Seems to be. Pink everything... a water slide... floating "KEN" letters. Publicity stunt? Huge Barbie fans? Filming location #BarbieMovie ? Who knows. @kcalnews pic.twitter.com/6x9gEcFoVf — John Schreiber (@johnschreiber) June 26, 2023
"I've added a few touches to bring some much-needed Kenergy to the newly renovated and iconic Malibu DreamHouse," Ken continues, which includes a closet full of "cowboy stuff," "rollerblades" and more. The house also boasts ocean views, a pool and air conditioning.
CBS Los Angeles photojournalist John Schreiber even posted a video of the bright pink house on Twitter, adding that he "spotted this thing from 10 miles away" while flying over Malibu Sunday.
"As you probably know, I'm a beach guy – and Malibu is the ultimate oceanfront paradise, with its never-ending sunshine (don't forget your cowboy hat and sunscreen!), beaches as far as the eye can see, and surf shops everywhere," says Ken.
In advance of the Greta Gerwig-directed "Barbie" moving hitting theaters on July 21 — starring Margot Robbie as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling as Ken — Airbnb will make a one-time donation to Save the Children "to honor girls' empowerment."
This is not the first time Airbnb has opened up Barbie's iconic DreamHouse to guests. In 2019, the company honored Barbie's 60th anniversary by making the property available to book to one lucky person for a two-night, $60 per night stay.
Booking for the Malibu DreamHouse opens to guests at 10 a.m. PT on July 17 for two, one-night stays for up to two guests on July 21 and July 22, free of charge — and the lucky winners selected will even be able to bring the experience home with them with their very own set of Ken-inspired skates and a surfboard.

Barbie’s dreamhouse is no longer just a toy set. No, not in the year 2019. Now, it’s available to rent on Airbnb.
Billed by the online rental giant as a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” the location has been drenched in bubblegum pink and looks like a Pinterest board sprung to life—all in honor of Barbie’s 60th anniversary . Barbie was first launched by Mattel in 1959, created by American inventor Ruth Handler —named for Handler’s daughter, Barbara. More than 200 iterations of Barbie have been rolled out since, and the first Dreamhouse appeared on toy store shelves in 1962. Or as Mattel describes it today: Barbie “bought” her first Dreamhouse that year—serving as a role model and symbol of independence to young women before women were even allowed to have their own bank accounts.
The life-size, brick-and-mortar Dreamhouse is located in the heart of Malibu, Calif., overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The house sleeps four, with two bedrooms and two baths. Among the dozens of amenities are some of the basics (i.e. Wi-Fi, Cable TV, AC, free parking—how could you not show up in a hot pink convertible?) and some fun extras like a fully-stocked kitchen, pool, hot tub, and patio. (Airbnb has gone all out with the listing , even citing “Barbie” as the verified host.)
Then there is also the special Barbie Dreamhouse Airbnb experience, which includes a meet-and-greet with hairstylist Jen Atkin (along with hair makeovers from hairstylists from Mane Addicts Creator Collective); a one-on-one fencing lesson with Olympic fencing medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad (who even has her own Barbie Shero doll); a cooking lesson with Gina Clarke-Helm of Malibu Seaside Chef; and a behind-the-scenes tour of Columbia Memorial Space Center with pilot and aerospace engineer Jill Meyers.
Based on the decadent photos, it looks like a lovely place. But turns out you can’t check in or out any time you like.
The Malibu Dreamhouse will be available to book via Airbnb starting on Wednesday, October 23 at 11a.m. PDT by one guest and up to three friends for a two-night stay. The one-time stay will take place Sunday, October 27 to Tuesday, October 29. And yes, the rate is really only $60 per night—a number, once again, in honor of Barbie’s anniversary.

You Can Now Book a Stay in Barbie's Malibu Dream House — But Your Host Will Be Just Ken
A California mansion was transformed into a pink palace worthy of the iconic dolls thanks to Airbnb, which is hosting a stay on site for a lucky fan
Airbnb/Hogwash Studios
Living in a Barbie world is now a reality!
Fans of the highly anticipated Barbie film , which hits theaters on July 21, now have the chance to stay in a private Malibu mansion completely decked out in the doll's signature hot pink thanks to Airbnb.
The oceanfront mansion was previously available to rent in 2019, but has been revamped with a Western flare — and even more pink! — to reflect the style of this stay's new host: Ken! Cowboy boots and hats, cowhide rugs, and equestrian paraphernalia adorn almost every room in the home.
The home also features a disco dance floor, a roller rink, a gym, a bar and grill, and an infinity pool (adorned with floats that spell out Ken’s name, of course).
Only two individual one-night stays on July 21 and 22 will be made available to book, so don’t pack up your pink suitcase just yet. Barbie lovers can request to book one of the free stays beginning on July 17 at 10 a.m. PT. The bookings will not include travel to and from Malibu,
The home sharing company poked fun at the iconic character while highlighting the surprising free stay, writing in their release that stays will be free of charge “because Ken couldn’t figure out how to put a price on Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse – after all, Ken’s thing is beach, not math!”
“We all have dreams, and Barbie is lucky enough to have a house full of them,” Ken shared via Airbnb’s release. “But now, it’s my turn, and I can’t wait to host guests inside these one-of-a-kind —dare I say, one-of-a-Ken? — digs.”
The luxurious stay also comes with concierge service to help arrange meals and organize activities, which include taking a peek inside Ken’s wardrobe to find a Barbie-approved ensemble, learning to line dance on the disco floor, sunbathing by the pool, and more. Guests will also get their very own set of yellow-and-pink Impala rollerblades and surfboards.
The Dream House rental will mark the opening weekend of Barbie , directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie in the titular role, Ryan Gosling as Ken. Issa Rae , Kate McKinnon , America Ferrera , Simu Liu and Will Ferrell also star in the upcoming film.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro
2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video
The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.
The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.
Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.
The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Malibu's 7 best beaches are a California dream
Dec 24, 2021 • 6 min read
Whether it's surfing or lounging, Malibu's beaches offer a day of fun in the sun © The Good Brigade / Getty Images
Just the name Malibu can bring to mind images of endless beaches, deep blue ocean waves, sunny weather and beautiful people.
The original Chumash Indian name for the 21 miles of gorgeous coastline west of Los Angeles is Humaliwo (the Hu is silent) which roughly translates to “the surf sounds loudly.” Although there are canyons and hiking trails inland to explore, Malibu is defined by its beaches.
While you could pull off the Pacific Coast Highway nearly anywhere and glimpse the sand and sea, here are the stand-out beaches that make Malibu one of Southern California’s most popular destinations.
Zuma Beach: best beach for families
Zuma looks like the quintessential Southern California beach with an impossibly long stretch of sand, nearly two miles long, dotted with volleyball nets, beach umbrellas and LA’s iconic light blue lifeguard stands. Point Dume, a rocky bluff a little south of the beach, offers a dramatic backdrop to a fun-filled day.
With so much to do in a single stop, Zuma is a convenient choice in Malibu for families. The parking is plentiful (over 2,000 spots in the lot), there are food stands at either end of the beach, picnic tables, restrooms and showers, and even surfboard rentals too. Across the street from the beach is the Trancas Country Market, home to Village Grocers and several shops, most notably the candy haven that is SweetBu Candy Co.
Zuma Beach is also a great place for a beginner surf lesson, a top quintessential Miami experience.
El Matador: best quiet beach
El Matador is one of three pocket beaches that make up the Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach at the northern end of Malibu. The other two are El Pescador and La Piedra. However, El Matador has the most stunning scenery with giant rock formations jutting out from the shoreline and sea caves buried in the cliffs. You’ll go for the coastline photo ops but you’ll end up staying for the tidepools and the bird-watching.
Getting down to the sand at El Matador requires a short hike down several staircases built into the cliffside. The drop is not for the faint of heart or for those who like to bring a ton of things with them to the beach. Parking is available off PCH but it’s limited and fills up quickly on hot days. There are a few port-a-potties in the lot, but the beauty of Matador beach is its relative simplicity—just you, the sand, and the waves.
If you want to explore some more popular beaches without the crowds, fall might be the best time to visit Malibu.
Staircase Beach: best dog beach
Most beaches in Malibu do not allow dogs, but at Staircase Beach on the northern end of Leo Carillo State Park, there’s a small section where dogs can frolic and play, so long as they are on a leash. The parking lot for the dog beach is hard to see from PCH but once you’re in, you can wind down a short trail from the bluffs right onto the sand. Much like El Matador, this almost feels like a secret or private beach, absent of tourists but full of gorgeous scenery. It’s also a favorite spot for in-the-know surfers so bringing a board is a good idea—so long as someone can watch the dog while you surf.
Surfrider Beach: best surfing beach
The historic Malibu Pier draws the most crowds in all of Malibu, namely because it’s become a popular Instagram spot anchored by trendy shops and the delicious Malibu Farm restaurant. But the pier is also adjacent to Surfrider Beach, a legendary surf spot (some say it’s where the genesis of modern surfing began) that’s a part of the larger Malibu Lagoon State Park. When the waves are pumping, surfers will crowd this small beach for hours until the waves die out.
Read more: How to get around in Malibu
Advanced surfers who understand surfing etiquette can paddle out to Surfrider’s first point and await their chance on one of the smoothest breaking waves in the world. But if you’re still learning to surf, it’s best to skip a session at Surfrider beach and head to a less-crowded spot where beginners are free to make their mistakes without dropping in on a pro.
On calmer days, the beach is a picturesque spot for sun-bathing and exploring. The Adamson House Museum at the edge of the lagoon was the former home to an original Malibu land owner and gives a look at what life in Malibu was like in the early 1900s. Parking is free on PCH but on weekends and big surf days, spaces can be hard to find meaning the pay-for-lots are your best options.
Carbon Beach: best beach for spotting celebrities
On PCH, about a mile south of the Malibu Pier, is a very small and subtle sign for Coastal Access. (You can see the full list of public beach access points in Malibu here. ) The white gate that leads out to the beach appears to be part of a private residence but is actually the public path out to Carbon Beach, a once private enclave nicknamed “Billionaire’s Beach” because its residents counted multiple billionaires among them. After a lengthy fight, the residents ceded the public access to a picture-perfect beach.
Aside from sunning and swimming, there’s not much to do at Carbon Beach other than stroll this stretch of coastline ogling the multi-million dollar houses but it is a rare glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous. If you have only a day in Malibu, this is also the best neighborhood to explore.
Paradise Cove: the best beach club vibes
Paradise Cove offers a full-service experience at a secluded beach along a rocky promontory that’s ideal for swimming or surfing or fishing from the small pier. There’s also a café and bar, chaise lounges for rent, towel service and bathrooms with showers, but these come at a steep price. Parking is $50 on the weekends and $35 during the week. You’ll save a little bit on that if you eat at the café but there’s a minimum order of $30.
If you aren’t keen to “rough it” at the regular beaches, Paradise Cove is the happy medium. If you’d rather skip the entrance fee, you can still walk down to Paradise Cove from PCH and park your stuff on the sand without having to pay.

Point Dume State Beach: best beach for exploring
Point Dume is a long bluff that marks the northern point of the Santa Monica Bay and you can see it jutting out from the coast as you drive north up PCH. The views from the top of the bluff are astounding and ideal for whale-watching in the winter months. You can access an easy hiking trail (with a staircase) from the beach below which will lead you into the Point Dume Nature Preserve. Or you can wander around the beach, heading north into the small Westward Beach next to Zuma or south into Paradise Cove. Getting to Point Dume is easy but parking is a little tricky. There is free parking at Westward Beach and at the top of Point Dume but spaces are limited. A pay parking lot is currently closed.

The best things to do and places to visit in Moscow, Russia
Updated On 14th October, 2021
While Moscow isn’t always at the top of everyone’s Europe bucket list , it’s certainly one of the best places to visit in Europe if you’re looking for a more alternative adventure! In this blog post I plan on sharing some of the free things to do in Moscow, as well as the best places to visit in Moscow, so that you can enjoy some of the best things to do in Russia!
Moscow, the capital of Russia, sits in the European part of the country. It’s an incredibly beautiful city, which I personally found to be more beautiful than Saint Petersburg (which is often people’s preference). The capital is certainly a lot busier, and less laid back than Saint Petersburg , but it’s a much more colourful and vibrant city, full of stunning and unique architecture.
Visiting famous landmarks such as The Kremlin and St Basil’s Cathedral, enjoying some of the green space in Gorky Park, watching a ballet in the Bolshoi Theatre… these are just a few reasons that you should visit Moscow! On top of that, because of visa restrictions (we’ll get onto that later), it’s also one of the most unique destinations in Europe.
There is a common misconception that Moscow is a dangerous city, but now that I’ve visited, I don’t believe this to be true. I would say the same rules apply here as to other large cities: avoid walking in dark areas alone at night, keep an eye on your belongings on public transport, and be streetwise. There’s no reason to avoid visiting this energetic city and miss out on these amazing things to do in Moscow!
It would take months if you wanted to truly explore Moscow because it’s a huge city, but I’m going to share some of my favourite things to do in Moscow and places to visit in Moscow so that you can prepare for your upcoming adventure! Even if you’re only there for a few days, you should be able to fit in these highlights from my trip.

Where is Moscow?
If you’re wondering ‘Where is Moscow, Russia?’ then you’ve come to the right place! Moscow in in west Russia, the European part, and it’s the capital city.
How do you get to Moscow?
Getting a visa for moscow:.
To get into Russia, you need to get a visa. The processing time is approximately 20 days, and you’ll need to have your fingerprints taken at a visa centre in London , Edinburgh or Manchester. You can find out more about getting a visa for Russia here.
Getting to Moscow:
Once you’ve got your visa, the easiest way to get to Moscow from the UK is by flying. Direct flights between London and Moscow take just under four hours, and with an airport layover you’re looking at a 6-7 hour trip. You can also fly in from many other major European and international cities.

16 best places to visit in Moscow...
1. st basil’s cathedral.
The most iconic building in Russia and one of the most iconic buildings in the world. St Basil’s Cathedral is one of the best places to visit in Moscow, if not the best!
St Basil’s is situated on Red Square, where you’ll also find many other popular places to visit in Moscow. In my opinion this still stands out against them all. There’s something about the multi coloured domes against the Moscow skyline that I found quite spectacular.
Although I’d already been in Russia for several days, it wasn’t until I was at this amazing piece of architecture that I really felt I was in Russia.
The cathedral was built by order of Ivan the Terrible, and apparently after the architect completed it, Ivan blinded him so that he could never build anything more beautiful. Whether or not this story is true, it certainly adds a bittersweet feeling as you stand admiring the beauty of St Basil’s Cathedral.
Inside is a museum displaying many historic items once used at the cathedral, which costs 700 rubles to enter. In my opinion it’s worth the entry fee, as simply seeing the ornate interior walls is a spectacle in itself.
2. The Kremlin
This historic fortress that sits on Red Square is probably the largest landmark and one of the most popular places to visit in Moscow. It’s the official residence of the President, although he doesn’t actually live there. It’s been rebuilt many times since it was first constructed in 1147 out of wood, before Ivan III the Great ordered it to be made from stone, which is the Kremlin you’ll recognise today.
This place is huge, and there’s quite a lot to see. The first problem I had was finding where the entrance was. Even though I had a pre-booked ticket, I was then told I still had to visit the ticket office to exchange it for another ticket. I also needed my passport, so make sure you have yours if you plan to visit the Kremlin. After a lengthy queue I finally had a ticket I could use to enter the Kremlin, and had to go through security. The security here is thorough, so make sure you don’t take too much in with you. I had my pockets full, and it was a nightmare emptying them and explaining each item, before I was finally allowed in. Once inside you can pay for extra tickets to visit the various museums, however there’s also quite a lot to see simply on the grounds if you don’t want to spend too much.
See more tips for travelling on a budget here.
There’s so much to see here, including The Assumption Cathedral, Ivan the Great Bell Tower Complex, the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Armoury Chamber and Diamond Fund. There is also the Tsar Cannon (a huge artillery cannon), and the Tsar Bell. The Tsar Bell is the largest bell in the world. An incident with a fire and water being poured over the bell caused it to crack and for a slab to break off from it, which can now be seen propped up next to it.
As you walk around the grounds you’ll hear the sound of whistles. The guards patrolling the area will blow a whistle at anyone walking where they shouldn’t. Even if it’s just on the grass, or towards more restricted areas. This can sometimes be funny to watch, as often the tourists will be in a world of their own whilst a guard is blowing a whistle at them. Sometimes a guard will be stood face to face with a tourist angrily blowing their whistle before the tourist realises they need to get back onto the main path.
This is perhaps one of the more unusual places to visit in Moscow! Gum is a huge department store situated on Red Square. It’s an interesting department store to walk around, with several levels, although the shops inside are certainly quite pricey. It’s a beautiful building when it’s lit up at night, and it seems to fit in nicely amongst the other famous sights on Red Square. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything here, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to take a quick look inside, although bear in mind there are usually security checks before entering.
4. State Historical Museum
The large crimson building on Red Square is now the State Historical Museum. It was originally the first pharmacy in Russia, and later a University before finally becoming the museum it is today.
Unfortunately I didn’t go inside as my time was limited and there was so much else I wanted to see, but if you have the time I think it would be one of the best things to do in Moscow. There are items dating back to the 6th century, and maybe even further. There’s also a library inside storing many ancient manuscripts and the largest coin collection in Russia.
5. Bolshoi Theatre
Bolshoi means big in Russian, so it roughly translates to large theatre. The Bolshoi Theatre is one of the foremost ballet companies in the world. The exterior of the building is an impressive sight, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Moscow, and it’s certainly worth admiring from the outside. There are guided tours of the interior, but if you really want to experience the theatre, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to watch a ballet here.
I was torn between booking a seat, but the ballets were very expensive. I’d have liked to have seen “Swan Lake”, (as at least I may have recognised some of the music). Unfortunately there were no performances on the days I was in Moscow, so I decided to pass. But if I return to Russia, then watching a ballet will be on my list of things to do.
6. Sparrow Hills
If you want a good view of the city, then Sparrow Hills is one of the best places to visit in Moscow. It’s a bit of a trek outside of the centre, but if you have the time then it offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. There’s a viewing platform here which gives you fantastic panoramic views of Moscow.
Nearby you’ll see the magnificent Moscow State University building, which is one of the seven sisters of Moscow.
7. Seven Sisters
Whilst in Moscow, you’ll no doubt notice these magnificent soviet skyscrapers dotted around the city. At the time of construction they were the tallest buildings in Europe, Moscow State University being so until 1997. There are, as the name suggests, seven in total, which are: Hotel Ukraina, Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Apartments, the Kudrinskaya Square Building, the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya Hotel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow State University, and the Red Gates Administrative Building.
If you visit Sparrow Hills, then you’ll come across Moscow State University, but I’m certain as you explore the city, you’ll see more of these giants against the Moscow skyline. One of the best things to do in Moscow is to see if you can locate all seven as you wander round the city!
8. Nikolskaya Street
The start of this street is found by Red Square. It’s one of the most prominent pedestrianised streets in Moscow, filled with shops, restaurants and bars, so one of the best places to visit in Moscow if you’re looking for a bite to eat or some souvenirs!
What makes this street extra special are the thousands of bright lights in the sky above. After dark it looks simply magical with the many colourful lights overhead as you walk beneath them. One of the best things to do in Moscow is to visit Nikolskaya Street after dark and see them for yourself. It almost feels like Christmas in London!
There is another street nearby which also features similar lights, “Kuznetskiy Most”, which is also quite beautiful, but I thought “Nikolskaya Street” was ever slightly more impressive.
9. Izmailovo Kremlin and Izmaylovskiy Bazar
Did you know that The Kremlin in Red Square is not the only Kremlin in Moscow? Kremlin actually means a type of fortress, so there are many in Russia.
The Izmailovo Kremlin is a fairly new addition to the city, having been built in 2007 as a cultural centre. With its multitude of colours and historic style, it has a real fairytale feel to it. There are several small museums here for you to explore, devoted to subjects such as Russian folk art, vodka and bread (yes, bread). Visiting these is definitely one of the more unique things to do in Moscow!
It’s a little way out of the centre, but it’s an interesting place to visit in Moscow to see something a little bit different, and it won’t be as overcrowded with tourists.
Next to the Izmailovo Kremlin is the best market in Moscow for souvenirs. You’ll find good and poor quality items, but you’ll certainly pick up a bargain if you take your time and haggle for a good price. Many of the items here you’ll get for half the price you would in souvenir shops in the city centre. It’s here that I picked up several Matryoshka dolls for a very good price. I think I’d have paid more than double, or possibly even triple if I’d have bought them elsewhere.
10. Izmailovsky Park
Not too far from Izmailovo Kremlin you’ll find this huge park, one of the prettiest places to visit in Moscow. It’s easy to get lost here, so try to make sure you keep track of where you entered if you plan to go back the same way. There’s a lot to see in this park, a round pond, ferris wheel, playgrounds and sports grounds, shooting galleries, cinemas and a skate park.
There are often festivals, concerts and exhibitions at the park, on top of firework displays and dance parties.
The main reason I chose to visit the park was to find the painted trees. A local artist “Yevgenia Khlynina” has been painting on trees in this park, and one of the best things to do in Moscow is to explore the park looking for them. One of the most famous pieces of hers is the “Hedgehog in the Fog” from a famous soviet cartoon.
11. Gorky Park
The most famous park in Moscow is named after the writer “Maxim Gorky”. Although it’s likely you’ve heard it mentioned in the song “Wind of Change” by “The Scorpions”.
There’s lots to do and see in the park with sports facilities and exhibitions. During the summer months this is one of the best places to visit if you’re looking for things to do in Moscow; there are often open air concerts and an open air cinema. There are many statues and sculptures in the park, including a small sculpture park area which features many interesting pieces.
One piece of advice: don’t visit Gorky Park or any other parks on 2nd August if you’re in Russia. 2nd August is Paratrooper day, which usually encourages a lot of drinking in the park, which is not always very welcoming.
12. Arbat Street
One of the oldest and busiest streets in Moscow, and the most famous pedestrian street in the city. Arbat is one of the most popular places to visit in Moscow. There are several shops including many dedicated to souvenirs, but although these will have a good range of goods, they will be quite expensive . You may see street performers and buskers, and there are often poets reciting famous works, if not their own works.
It’s within walking distance from the Kremlin, which should only take around 10 minutes.
There are actually two streets with this name, Old Arbat Street and New Arbat Street. Old Arbat Street is where you’ll find the pedestrianised area. New Arbat Street is a separate street which runs alongside a main road, filled with many bars and restaurants.
13. Metro station art
The best way to get around Moscow is by using the metro, and the metro is a tourist attraction in itself.
Although I obviously didn’t visit every metro station, I believe that every single station is unique in its own beautiful way. Many of the stations I passed through were impressive, quirky or simply jaw dropping. You’ll more than likely pass through many of them on the way to other sights, but I’d recommend the following: Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Mayakovskaya, Teatralnaya, Arbatskaya, Prospekt Mira and Ploschad Revolutsii (be sure to pet the dog statue for good luck).
There are of course many others for you to explore, but these are the ones I considered to be some of the most impressive places to visit in Moscow (even if they’re only metro stations!).
VDNKh is an exhibition centre with many monuments and museums. Now that it’s combined with the Botanical Garden and Ostankino Park, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to spend the day at this recreational centre enjoying a mix of nature and culture. The most popular museum in the complex which you shouldn’t miss on your trip to Moscow is the Museum of Cosmonautics.
15. Lenin's Mausoleum
Despite requesting to be buried with his mum in St Petersburg, it is at the foot of the Kremlin on Red Sqaure that you will find Lenin’s Mausoleum, where Vladimir Ilych Lenin has been frozen in time since 1924. It’s only open for a few hours a few times per week. Photography is not allowed, and you should line up on the western corner of the square (near Alexander Garden) to wait you turn to see the embalmed body.
16. Novodevichy Convent
Novodevichy Convent, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Moscow. Located south west of the centre you’ll find this stunning monastery. Inside you’ll find a cathedral and several churches, surrounded by high walls and 12 towers.
