There’s nothing quite like sinking your toes in the sand while listening to the sound of waves crashing on a beach. Ocean retreats are sanctuaries for many travelers, who often come home inspired to protect the marine settings that brought them so much joy and tranquility.

The best luxury beach resorts in the world don’t just deliver ocean views, picturesque beaches, standout design, and activities on the water. They’re also working every day to become better custodians of the ocean through their environmental and cultural stewardship. Learn more about this trend , and read on for the 15 best beach resorts around the world—in no particular order—that are going the extra mile to protect the marine habitats that inspire us all.

1. Four Seasons Hualalai

  • Location: Kailua-Kona, Island of Hawai‘i

Set on close to 900 sandy coastal acres on the western coast of the Island of Hawai‘i, the Four Seasons Hualalai pulls out all the stops on luxury. The 243 spacious guest rooms and suites are clad in dark wood, with open plans that face the ocean. For multigenerational groups, the villas—with their wide verandas, multibedroom setups, and direct beach access—feel like private residences. The spa’s lengthy menu of treatments showcase Hawaiian ingredients, such as local volcanic mud.

The resort is going to great lengths to embrace sustainability. More than 75 percent of all food served in the on-site restaurants, including the seasonally inspired ‘Ulu Ocean Grill, comes from local purveyors, and food waste gets diverted from landfills to farmers for pig feed. There’s a bottling and purification plant on site for the resort’s water needs, for everything from pools to laundry. The resort also monitors the biodiversity of the marine reserve it sits next to in partnership with the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources. Eco-conscious guests can book one of the resort’s carbon-neutral villas, which offset emissions through a tree-planting program in partnership with the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative, and participate in a beach cleanup.

2. Turtle Bay Resort

  • Location: North Shore, O‘ahu

On the North Shore of O‘ahu, Turtle Bay Resort is the only hotel of its caliber on this less developed part of the island. Set on a 1,300-acre property—half of which has been set aside permanently for conservation—the 408 rooms and suites all have ocean views and a neutral/blue palette inspired by the surrounding area. The resort’s commitment to environmental sustainability is palpable: Meals are prepared with leafy greens, beets, and other crops from the resort’s own Kuilima Farm, a plot of land five minutes from the hotel with a farm stand and “you-pick” self-harvesting days for locals. Meanwhile, the 18-hole golf course is maintained with gray water treated by the resort’s own plant.

The resort doubles as a wildlife sanctuary . A birding experience via electric golf cart led by Captain Scott Sundby, who runs Shaka Kayaks and has lived on the North Shore for 20 years, offers a glimpse at some of the wild residents. They include the ‘alae ‘ula, or Hawaiian common gallinule, which according to Hawaiian legend got its fiery red forehead from the gods, and Hawaiian monk seals, one of the world’s most endangered seal species . The coastline here is set within the Hawaiian Island Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, extending more than 1,200 nautical square miles; in the winter, it’s the site of humpback breeding, calving, and nursing.

3. Playa Viva

  • Location: Zihuatanejo, Mexico

With 19 rooms and tree houses inspired by manta rays, cooled by sea breezes just south of Zihuatanejo, this 200-acre coastal resort has its own long stretch of sand and surf—plus swimming pool, restaurant, and bar. Playa Viva earned B-Corp certification in early 2023; its many standout sustainable efforts include a watershed regeneration project, a 20-acre permaculture farm, and reforestation work. The retreat operates 100 percent off grid thanks to solar power. Guests can go out late and patrol the beach with the local volunteers of La Tortuga Viva in search of sea turtles laying their eggs and then help move the nest to a safe sanctuary in the dunes.

4. One&Only Mandarina

  • Location: Rivera Nayarit, Mexico

This resort on the Pacific-side Nayarit coast inside the exclusive Mandarina residential community consists of 105 massive villas made from clay, wood, metal, and stone—all indigenous regional materials. In the 40 lofty tree houses built using native Cumaru wood, guests can take in the leafy jungle canopy while lounging on their private outdoor decks, swimming in their infinity pool, or soaking in their open-air bathroom’s tub.

During construction, One&Only consulted a botanist to help preserve as much of the existing foliage as possible, while an archaeologist advised on protecting the rock carvings by local Cora and Huichol cultures that are found throughout the property. The beach is a highlight (and might be hosting a turtle release if your timing is right), but set aside enough time for the open-air spa surrounded by jungle, which includes an adults-only pool, a temezcal dome for Mayan rituals, an outdoor mud bath area, and saunas and steam rooms. If you have kids, drop them at the rain forest wonderland kids club, designed by Oscar-winning art director Brigitte Broch ( Moulin Rouge ; Romeo & Juliet ).

5. Lapa Rios Lodge

  • Location: Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Since its inception in 1991, Lapa Rios Lodge has operated as an eco-lodge with sustainability and community development at its core. It’s set within a 1,000-acre swath of tropical lowland forest next to Costa Rica ‘s Corcovado National Park, which holds more than 2.5 percent of the world’s biodiversity. Alongside the retreat are a string of quiet, picturesque beaches on the Golfo Dulce that guests can visit for surf lessons and swimming.

About 80 percent of the property is primary forest filled with tapirs, three-toed sloths, and more than 300 species of birds, including green macaws. The 17 ocean-facing suites and villas have hardwood floors and wraparound decks, and they’re stocked with biodegradable shampoos and soaps. They get 100 percent of their energy from solar panels and nano-hydro turbines, whose excess energy can also be stored in batteries or in auxiliary water heaters. Each guest pays a $25 fee that supports the lodge’s sustainability and community programs, among them support of two local schools and reforestation programs in secondary growth areas of the rain forest.

6. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay

  • Location: Nha Trang, Vietnam

Midway down Vietnam’s long coast in the region of Nha Trang, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay can only be reached by boat, a 20-minute ride along a tree-lined coast that offers a chance to spot the bright blue faces of endangered black shanked doc langur monkeys. The resort’s 62 pool villas are scattered along the beachfront and on a hillside; all feel like a high-end Robinson Crusoe fantasy with their timber and bamboo walls and wooden soaking tubs. The organic garden provides thousands of pounds of produce for the restaurants each year. The resort has its own water plant, chicken coop, tree-planting project, and reef restoration program, and it is powered by Vietnam’s first solar complex.

7. NIHI Sumba

  • Location: Sumba Island, Indonesia

On the southern coast of the less-visited island of Sumba, east of Bali, NIHI Sumba sets a high standard for responsible community engagement. The resort employs hundreds of Sumbanese people on its 667 acres of lightly developed grounds. Inside the 27 thatched-roof villas, which range from one to five bedrooms, local craft traditions like carving and weaving appear everywhere; each villa also has its own swimming pool. When not dining and drinking in one of the three standout restaurants or swimming with horses and surfing the world-class private wave, guests are invited to connect with the Sumba Foundation and its projects. The resort’s founder launched the NGO in 2001, and social impact projects range from malaria prevention and treatment to clean water access and education.

8. The Brando

  • Location: Tetiaroa Atoll, French Polynesia

Encompassing 35 private villas on the Motu Onetahi coast of Marlon Brando’s very own French Polynesian island, Tetiaroa, the Brando is one of the most luxurious places to stay in the South Pacific. It also has some serious sustainability cred: The LEED Platinum-certified resort—the world’s first—is carbon neutral, thanks to such efforts as an air-conditioning system that draws from cool ocean water, on-site composting, and a desalination plant that produces fresh water for the resort.

A partnership with nonprofit group Tetiaroa Society connects guests to naturalists and researchers who lead snorkeling and scuba outings and guided nature walks. Travelers with an interest in Polynesian culture may also want to test the resort’s traditional outrigger canoe on a trip out to one of the surrounding private islets that share an atoll with the Brando. All villas at this all-inclusive resort have their own private pools and direct beach access; the spa offers a range of healing modalities, including a traditional Polynesian taurumi massage.

9. Coulibri Ridge

  • Location: Dominica

Coulibri Ridge sets a new sustainability standard for the less-visited Caribbean isle of Dominica. The 14-suite off-the-grid hotel, on the southern tip of the island, uses solar panels and wind turbines for electricity, and pure rainwater is harvested and filtered on site. (Visitors can learn more on a tour around the property.) Nearby Martinique is visible from the rooms, which include full kitchens, terraces, and recyclable or renewable materials in their decor, such as hand-chiseled stone on the walls and recycled teakwood light fixtures. The 285-acre resort offers endless ways to commune with nature, whether by stargazing from chlorine-free infinity pools or enjoying yoga in the open-air pavilion surrounded by tropical plants.

10. Potato Head Studios

  • Location: Bali, Indonesia

In the busy coastal town of Seminyak, one of Bali’s most sustainable beach resorts delivers panoramic sea views from 24 of its 168 minimalist yet warm-toned studio accommodations. The design by the Rem Koolhaas–led OMA firm uses locally woven recycled plastic ceilings and terrazzo from broken bricks and waste concrete. The suites are green down to their recyclable amenity packaging and fully biodegradable slippers. Reclaimed materials are also used in large-scale sculptures by acclaimed international and local talent.

Potato Head Studios shares a handful of restaurants and bars with sister sites Potato Head Suites and Potato Head Beach Club. They include a zero-waste seafood concept and a seed-to-stem plant-based restaurant. Guests are welcome to join daily back-of-house “Follow the Waste” tours to track the meticulous on-site recycling and reuse programs that end in Sweet Potato Lab, an R&D hub for creating stylish new products like jewelry from scraps of trash.

A Water Villa at Six Senses Laamu

11. Six Senses Laamu

  • Location: Laamu Atoll, Maldives

Along the white-sand beaches and turquoise waters of the Maldives’ Laamu atoll, Six Senses Laamu is the ultimate castaway fantasy. The 96 thatched-roof villas, set either over the water or on the beach, were built with sustainably sourced local timber and have floor-to-ceiling windows that maximize views of the atoll’s blue hues.

The resort takes its destination stewardship seriously: A team of nine people under the banner Maldives Underwater Initiative are responsible for the resort’s coral restoration program, whose work and advocacy since 2012 have helped to inspire the creation of more marine protected areas in the Laamu atoll. Six Senses has also provided tens of thousands of local community members with safe drinking water by donating close to 100 water purification systems.

12. InterContinental Hayman Island

  • Location: Hayman Island, Australia

In the Whitsunday archipelago of Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef, this luxurious private island resort has changed hands over the past few decades. Today, as the InterContinental Hayman Island, the resort’s operations are more environmentally sensitive than ever before. The 176 neutral-hued, wood-floored rooms and adults-only Beachfront Pavilions are plush but feature state-of-the-art thermal technology that dramatically reduces energy usage.

Outside in breezy public spaces, there are five dining outlets, a spa and gym, and a gargantuan swimming pool, along with many filtered water stations where guests can refill their complimentary aluminum water bottles before hiking or snorkeling. The resort has a strict zero single-use plastic policy that extends to its boutique, which stocks Earth-friendly, ethically made products and reef-safe sunscreen.

13. Chumbe Island

  • Location: Zanzibar, Tanzania

When it was established in 1991 off the coast of Zanzibar, Chumbe Island Coral Park became the world’s first privately managed marine protected area. It was also the first of its kind to operate entirely on ecotourism financing. Today, the reef sanctuary here is one of the region’s healthiest reefs, home to more than 500 fish species and 59 hard coral genera. The park also educates local schoolchildren on marine forest ecology through snorkeling experiences—often their first time in the water.

With a limit of only 18 visitors at a time, the island feels perpetually secluded, even at maximum capacity. The seven bungalows, with their thatched roofs, exposed beams, mosquito net–covered beds, and open-air layouts, were built using local materials. Photovoltaics provide energy, while rainwater catchment and filtration supplies water. Guests spend their days snorkeling, taking beach walks to check out rocky tidal pools, or wandering in the forest to spot baobabs, mangroves, and marine fossils dating back thousands of years.

14. andBeyond Mnemba Island

Just off the northeastern coast of Zanzibar, andBeyond Mnemba Island is less than a mile in circumference and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Connecting with nature is what it’s all about: There are no doors in the 12 spacious, thatched-roof indoor-outdoor bungalows—yet it still feels private—and there’s plenty of outdoor seating and open-air showers. Adding to the exclusivity, each bungalow has its own stretch of beach, with loungers and umbrella included.

The clear turquoise waters offer snorkeling on the coral reefs and sunset cruises on a dhow, a traditional Swahili-style sailboat, where guests can spot dolphins and sea turtles. The island is host to both the suni and Ader’s duiker antelope species; the latter is critically endangered and being bred and protected on the island. Beginning in 2005, andBeyond worked with the Zanzibar Department of Fisheries and members of local Zanzibari fishing communities to form the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area (MIMCA). MIMCA helps with officially demarcated areas for snorkeling, diving, and fishing and charges a daily recreational fee; the revenue funds local community projects and benefits local fishermen.

15. Miavana by Time + Tide

  • Location: Nosy Ankao, Madagascar

Off the northeast coast of mainland Madagascar , the 2,500-acre island of Nosy Ankao is a private resort of 14 stand-alone beach villas with pools and an oceanfront Indian restaurant. It’s also a safe haven for a small, protected population of crowned lemurs. The full-time environmental team is part of the warm staff who make stays in the expansive turquoise-toned lodging—cooly modern but with a breezy island vibe—feel truly one of a kind.

There are plenty of opportunities to dive deeply into culture and conservation efforts happening here, from an on-site museum of Malagasy curiosities to meeting local communities. Visitors can also get a firsthand glimpse at the work of the resort’s philanthropic arm, Time + Tide Foundation , in protecting species, including sea turtle and crowned lemur conservation.

10. THAILAND

A veritable paradise of sugar white sand, crystal clear waters, and dramatic scenery, Thailand’s tropical beaches are renowned around the globe for their beauty. Unfortunately, mass tourism has destroyed some of them. Remember The Beach ? Well, these days you’ll have to look a little harder to find the utopian paradise of the 1990s cult backpacker novel on Thailand’s Andaman coast. However, little gems still shine brightly on Phi Phi island. And some of the country’s most luxurious resorts – such as the phenomenal resort of Soneva Kiri – still feature their own private, pristine beach.

  • Best time to visit : the weather in Thailand is reasonable most times of year, although it certainly gets hot and rainy during the summer. November through February are the coolest times of year and there is certainly less rain than at other times in the year. However, avoid the rainy season (July to October) at all costs since tropical downpours can be torrential.

9 . PHILIPPINES

With more than 7000 islands dotted with beautiful white sand beaches that are lapped by warm aquamarine seas and edged by spectacular coral reefs, picking a favorite beach in the Philippines may sound like a challenging task. El Nido in Palawan, often dubbed as the Philippines’ last frontier, is definitely one the best destinations in the country, not only because of the powder-fine beaches and gin-clear waters, but also because of the area’s fabulous limestone formations, towering cliffs, prehistoric caves and thundering waterfalls.

  • Best time to visit : there are two distinct weather patterns in the Philippines. The southwest monsoon, which runs from May to October, brings the rains and the northeast monsoon, which prevails from November to early May, is the dry season. For most of the country, the wet season starts in June, peaks in July to September, and fades out in October. Typhoons are common from June to November with storms raging up the east coast. January to May is the best time to visit.
  • My selection of luxury hotels :  Amanpulo ,  Shangri La Boracay , and Nay Palad Hideaway

THE PHILIPPINES

8. NORTHWESTERN USA & CANADA

The Northwestern area of the American continent boasts some of the most spectacular wild beaches in the worlds, in particular Second Beach in Olympic National Park (USA) and Long Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park (Canada). Do not expect a tropical idyll though, since these areas rank among the wettest places on earth. Here, you can walk on miles of long sandy beaches backed by lush, old-growth rainforest, while watching the thundering waves of the Pacific Ocean with the occasional whale breaching at the horizon.

  • Best time to visit : it depends on your interests. In the winter you can expect a lot of rain and potentially high winds but many people go just to storm watch. July and August would be the best time in terms of less precipitation, warmer temperatures and sunshine but fog is often a plague in the morning.
  • My selection of luxury resorts :  Long Beach Lodge ,  Wickaninnish Inn , and Clayoquot Wilderness Resort

NORTHWESTERN USA & CANADA

7. QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

Queensland has hundreds of world-class beaches, each offering a distinctive experience. Whitehaven Beach, located on the largest of the Whitsunday Islands, is often voted amongst the world’s most beautiful beaches ; stretching over 3,7 miles (6km) and boasting brilliant silica sand, among the purest in the world, you’ll soon realize why. Another favorite is Seventy-five Mile Beach, which is Australia’s premier four-wheel driving location and runs along Fraser Island’s east coast; the fabulous beach boasts miles upon miles of pristine sand and sea, as well as a vast array of wildlife.

  • Best time to visit : April through October (winter time Down Under) is the best time to enjoy abundant sunshine and less rain. It is also peak visibility time for divers. The Australian summer months from November to April are hot, rainy and sticky across Queensland (with the chance of a cyclone in the north).
  • My selection of luxury resorts : read my top 10 list of the best luxury hotels in Australia .

6. CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town, often dubbed South Africa’s Mother City and IMHO the world’s most beautiful city , has some of the world’s most spectacular beaches on its doorsteps, just minutes from the city center at the foot of the epic Table Mountain. From the family friendly beaches on the False Bay coastline to the gorgeous beaches for the rich and beautiful on the incredibly spectacular Atlantic Seaboard, you’re sure to find a stretch of sand that suits your fancy. My favorite Capetonian beaches are Camps Bay, Clifton and Llandudno.

  • Best time to visit : Cape Town’s hot, dry summer months run from late October to late March. Temperatures reach their peak between December and February, and this is generally seen as when to go to Cape Town for the best beach weather.
  • My selection of luxury hotels: read my top 10 list of the best luxury hotels in Cape Town .

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

5. HAWAII, USA

Besides jaw-dropping natural scenery (think active volcanoes, towering cliffs, and dense jungle), the Hawaiian islands also boast some of the best beaches in the world. Some built around the high drama of intense waves crashing against razor-sharp lava rocks; some so remote that they are only accessible by helicopter or landing watercraft; and some are so hidden and gorgeous that they need to remain a secret. The islands of Kauai and Maui are best for travelers looking for a relaxing beach holiday (but don’t forget to explore the incredible landscapes outside the resorts).

  • Best time to visit : the off-season, when the best rates are available and the islands are less crowded, is spring (Apr to June) and fall (Sept to November) — a paradox because these are the best seasons to be in Hawaii, in terms of reliably great weather.  Winter (December to March) can be surprisingly wet and cloudy.
  • My selection of luxury resorts : read my top 10 list of the best hotels in Hawaii .

HAWAII, USA

4. FRENCH POLYNESIA

With 118 islands dotted in the mighty blue South Pacific Ocean, French Polynesia has, as you probably expect, some pretty awesome beaches. Just 12 miles (19 km long), the lush little slipper of land called Bora Bora lies in French Polynesia’s most mesmerizing lagoon edged by fine white sandy shores. Luxurious over-water bungalows nestled over the world’s most beautiful lagoon with a tropical backdrop make Bora Bora a top destination for the discerning traveler.

  • Best time to visit : the wet season (Polynesian summers) runs from November till April. During these months the humidity levels can be at an all time high and storms are frequent and unpredictable. The dry season from May to October is when tourism is at its peak on the islands; during these months the temperature is a few degrees lower and rain is rare.
  • My selection of luxury resorts : read my top 10 list of the best luxury resorts in French Polynesia .

BORA BORA, FRENCH POLYNESIA

3. TURKS AND CAICOS

The Turks and Caicos Islands have some of the planet’s most ethereal turquoise seas and finest, powdery sand beaches, and are surrounded by the globe’s third-largest coral reef. While their western neighbors of the Bahamas went mass with their lost-on-the-way-to-Las-Vegas resorts, the Turks went class, quietly opening a string of very luxurious resorts in the past decade.

  • Best time to visit : like other islands in the Caribbean, Turks & Caicos’ dry seasons and peak travel period lasts from December to March. However, the best time to visit Turks & Caicos is April and May, a sweet spot featuring lower prices and fewer crowds. The weather is pleasant year-round with average highs that hover in the 80s, but these islands do experience a rainy season, and the threat of hurricanes lingers from June to November.
  • My selection of luxury resorts :  Amanyara and COMO Parrot Cay

TURKS & CAICOS

2. THE MALDIVES

Located on the equator towards the south of India, and stretching over 500 miles (800 km), the Maldives are the visible coral tips of an oceanic volcanic mountain range whose outer edge at some points plunge to depths of over 2 miles (3 km). The islands are blessed with stunning white beaches, crystal clear blue lagoons, incredible underwater wildlife, and unrivaled luxury resorts .

  • Best time to visit : the best weather is between January and April, which also means high season (and high hotel prices). The monsoon runs from May to October, peaking in June. It is worth paying higher prices and sticking to the dry season as there is nothing to do on a rainy day except drink, work out or scuba dive. Especially November and December, which are often labelled as dry season months, have been very unsettled recent years.
  • My selection of luxury resorts : read my top 10 list of the best luxury resorts in the Maldives .

1. THE SEYCHELLES

Mother Nature was extremely generous when she created the archipelago of the Seychelles, comprised of 115 scenic islands scattered in the Indian Ocean east of Kenia. The beauty of the Seychellois beaches is beyond words and unmatched anywhere else in the world: exquisite ribbons of powdery-soft white sand are lapped by turquoise waters and backed by palm tree covered hills and big rocky boulders.

  • Best time to visit : Seychelles is often sold as a year round destination and it is. However there is more chance of bad weather, that is to say rain, from November to March. The transitional months of October and April are excellent for a visit as the oceans are very calm and the weather balmy. During the dry seasons (May to September), it can be windy (causing seaweed on the south or south-easterly side of the islands) with rough seas.
  • My selection of luxury resorts : read my top 10 list of the best luxury resorts in the Seychelles .

Love this piece! Turks and Caicos has been on my bucket list for years!!

Love your column. I wish you would label your beautiful pictures so I knew where to go to see this view/location.

Hello! Thanks for the summary. I would like to go somewhere in August. I am based in Asia. What would you recommend taking into account the distance and weather? I would like to do scuba diving as well. I was thinking of the Philippines but it might be rainy. What do you think?

In August, you will enjoy Asia’s best beach weather in Indonesia!

Nice post! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for writing very informative topic about best beach destinations. please keep it up, Thank you

Great piece! Love it 🙂

Thank you sweetie for sharing those stunning beaches with us. Our bucket list is getting even longer 😀

Enjoy your holiday! I just finished a series of trip reports on my blog about the Seychelles.

Thanks for the information, very useful.

Always flood of biased votes and listings from MiddIe East, places like Hawaii are always on top for a reason and have a vibrant culture, missed a lot of the top dogs.

Hello blogger! Thanks a lot for sharing such a great post on the best beach destinations in the world. Adriana and Dylan are also a couple of wanderers from Sweden & Wales and the best travel vloggers and youtubers as well. They are pursuing our dream lives of travelling and exploring the world together, including resorts, hotels, beaches, food, drink, and more. To know more, visit their site.

There’s nothing like the feeling of sand between your toes and the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore. Taking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relaxing on a beach can be a great way to recharge and find a sense of peace.

There are surf resorts and boat charters that cater specifically to surfers in the Mentawai Islands, offering comfortable accommodations, meals, and access to a variety of surf breaks, including Kandui.

The diversity of beach destinations showcased in this article is truly remarkable. From the rugged beauty of Big Sur to the exotic allure of the Seychelles, each destination offers its own unique charm and appeal. I can’t wait to start planning my next beach getaway based on these recommendations. The ever-changing landscape of the real estate market keeps us on our toes, but it’s also a testament to the dynamism and opportunities within the industry.

10 best beach resorts in the USA

Summer's brief, but these incredible beach resorts in the USA let you soak up every bit of pleasure you can all year

Erika Mailman

Summers are brief—but one way to extend them is to spend the day on the sand, going in and out of the waves, burnishing your skin with salt air and sea breezes. We don’t know the science behind it, but a day at the beach seems to somehow lengthen your summer and make it more memorable. And if you can then retreat for the evening to a luxurious beach resort in the USA for an evening of fine dining and excellent wine, you’ll be putting a metaphorical cherry on top of your sweet sundae. Well done! To help you, we’ve collected a list of U.S. beach resorts we think will make your summer exquisite. But why stop there? These fabulous properties are open year-round so you can live the high life whenever you want.

Best beach resorts in the USA

Inn by the Sea | Cape Elizabeth, ME

1.  Inn by the Sea | Cape Elizabeth, ME

Not far from the pleasures of Portland is the Inn by the Sea. It’s located on a mile of sandy beach on Maine’s beautiful Atlantic coastline, replete with Instagrammable lighthouse. The rooms have water views, a patio or deck, and a gas-burning fireplace, and the hotel’s expanse of green lawn includes a private boardwalk that leads right to the calm shore through a wildlife sanctuary and dunes lined with beach roses. The beach is crescent-shaped to break the waves and make for a safer swim and kayak experience. The inn’s oceanview restaurant Sea Glass received an award from Wine Spectator this year for its outstanding wine cellar, so you know there’s a reward at the end of a happy day in the waves.

Lumina on Wrightsville Beach | Wrightsville Beach, NC

2.  Lumina on Wrightsville Beach | Wrightsville Beach, NC

The backstory of this hotel is incredible: the original 1905 resort (alas, no longer with us) was designed to showcase the then-new marvel of electricity. It shone so brightly that sailors navigated by it! Today’s resort is reimagined to evoke that spirit of brightness and welcome. Every room has an ocean or harbor view, and most have balconies. There’s direct beach access as well as three pools, a hammock garden, and a beachfront fitness center—plus excellent dining and cocktails and brews. It’s said that some of the best surfing in the world is here at Wrightsville Beach, as well as a waterbird sanctuary and great shopping.

The Breakers | Palm Beach, FL

3.  The Breakers | Palm Beach, FL

With Gilded Age beauty and grand public spaces, this is an old gem from the era of people coming to stay for the season in opulent quarters. The lobby ceiling paintings that stretch for 200 feet were created by 75 Italian artisans flown in for the job in the 1920s, and over the years celebrities, presidents and royalty have chosen to stay here. And best of all is the white sandy beach for the perfect day of playing in the surf.

Wailea Beach Resort | Wailea, Maui, HI

4.  Wailea Beach Resort | Wailea, Maui, HI

Enjoy 22 acres of lush greenery nestled between two beautiful crescent sand beaches. And to pump up your adrenaline, this resort has the longest resort waterslide in Hawai’i! There are four pools as well, plus a dazzling array of cultural experiences, such as Hawaiian outrigger canoeing, poi (taro) pounding, ulu maika (bowling), ohe kapala (bamboo stamping) and ukulele lessons—along with whale watching, kayak snorkel turtle tours and more ways to enjoy the warm Hawaiian waters.

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island | Amelia Island, FL

5.  The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island | Amelia Island, FL

This secluded barrier island resort sits on 13 miles of unspoiled shorelines in north Florida, close to state parks, nature preserves, and more than 40 bike paths to explore the island. Enjoy the warm waters and take an ecology field trip with an on-site naturalist to learn about wildlife like sea turtles and gopher tortoises. The resort offers a Heaven in a Hammock massage; just don’t tip out when you bliss out. The chance to dine at the onsite AAA five-diamond restaurant Salt doesn’t hurt, either.

The Grey Gull | Ocean Shores, WA

6.  The Grey Gull | Ocean Shores, WA

In this unique building shaped like a flying seagull with spread wings designed by architect Ralph Anderson in 1969, you will catch beautiful ocean views of the Chance A La Mer State Park Beach. Take a quarter-mile saunter under a canopy of trees to the dunes from the hotel’s backyard. Each room has a fireplace here to warm up after a brisk swim and a private west-facing balcony. There’s also a kitchen or kitchenette, depending on what size unit you book, to prepare your beach picnic and have a great dinner afterward. There’s also a pool, spa and dry sauna.

Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa | Jensen Beach, FL

7.  Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa | Jensen Beach, FL

Here on Florida’s Treasure Coast, this luxurious oceanfront property is both part of the quaintness of Hutchinson Island and the awesome road trippability of historic, scenic Route A1A. It’s the first to be built on the island in almost 20 years and sits on Jensen Sea Turtle Beach. If you visit during turtle nesting season, you can take part in the resort’s educational programming to watch the nests being excavated after the hatchlings have left and learn turtle facts, such as that only one in 10,000 loggerheads make it to adulthood. At the beach, there’s a waterfront café, volleyball courts, chair and umbrella rentals, and free beach wheelchair rentals for visitors with mobility challenges.

The Hotel Del Coronado | San Diego, CA

8.  The Hotel Del Coronado | San Diego, CA

Explore for yourself this gorgeous historic property, instantly recognizable from many travel inspo photos with its sprawling white spread with many gables and towers and a distinctive red roof. It’s perched right on the edge of the Pacific (but with pools and hot tubs if the water proves too cold). If you’re a runner or want a sturdy stroll, a six-mile loop starts at the hotel and goes past the golf course, under the Coronado Bridge and into Tidelands Park and the ferry landing.

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach | Honolulu, O’ahu, HI

9.  The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach | Honolulu, O’ahu, HI

These residences operate like a five-star resort with unobstructed ocean views, floor-to-ceiling windows and lanais offered in every room or suite. It’s the largest of the Ritz-Carlton Residences in the world with 552 residencies, and the only Waikiki resort with two infinity pools. You’ll have the beautiful beach on one side, and a vibrant city on the other, edged by green mountains.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort | Kiawah Island, SC

10.  The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort | Kiawah Island, SC

Located about 20 miles outside of Charleston, this beachfront resort brims with Southern charm and elegance. It may feel like a cozy colonial mansion but this sprawling property is stacked with modern amenities, from a state-of-the-art spa to multiple pools (indoor  and outdoor) and five championship golf courses. Plus, there's a balcony in every one of the 255 guestrooms should you want to take the relaxing back to your private space.

From Nantucket to the Florida Keys: Where to Find Summer Bliss on the East Coast

From Cape Cod’s windswept dunes to Florida’s sugar-sand strands, these beach resorts sizzle with dreamy summer vibes

beach travel luxury

When the Northeast's swampy summer arrives, you know it's time to make a hasty retreat for cooler, saltier climes. For those of discernment and taste, the East Coast's sun-drenched shores are summer personified—an effervescent, timeless escape from the city's swelter. From Cape Cod's windswept dunes to Florida's sugar-sand strands , these beach resorts sizzle with dreamy summer vibes.

Days slip into glorious successions of lounging on pristine private sands, nibbling lobster rolls dripping in lemon butter, and convivial clambakes as the sun slips below the horizon in sizzling oranges and reds. It's a spectacular sensory treat only the seasoned beach connoisseur can truly appreciate.

Meanwhile, the sporting set finds their bliss along New England's storied summer colonies: Newport, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, to name a few. One day it's sailing regattas launched from gilt-edged yacht clubs, the next polished lawn games like croquet presiding over manicured emerald expanses. Equestrians can explore miles of secluded trails, crisscrossing through enclaves from South Carolina to the Hamptons, winding through fragrant maritime forests straight out of a Wyeth painting.

Those seeking a delectably low-key scene head to the hideaway isles from Maine to the Florida Keys . 'Access to hidden-gem ports': Why this luxury yacht is the best option for beach lovers

“This is your yacht, to do with as you please,” Captain Rob O’Leary told guests of the Emerald Sakara , the second luxury superyacht from Emerald Cruises. “We have an international crew from 21 different nations, and we are all here for you.”

I was on the maiden voyage of the 360-foot Sakara, a December 2023 sailing with the added glamor of a Champagne christening in San Juan, Puerto Rico, led by the ship’s godmother, Kelly Craighead. She is president of Cruise Lines International Association, the industry’s leading trade organization.

“Sakara” is a Sanskrit word meaning “thoughts become things” – a fitting name, given the thought that went into the ship’s chic design. And our itinerary for the week couldn’t be more yacht-like – an island-hopping experience in the West Indies, stopping in out-of-the-way ports that larger cruise ships can’t manage. And while some smaller boats can feel rocky, the Sakara’s stabilizers keep the ship on an even keel.

Are luxury cruise ships worth the money? We did the math for Silversea's Silver Nova.

With just 100 guests and 76 crew, the Sakara is part of the larger trend in cruising: smaller ships that cater to vacationers who want the style and feel of a yacht, and the intimate service that accompanies that, with the amenities of a larger ship. Craighead said small-ship cruises offer “luxury at a great value, access to hidden-gem ports and unique features like marinas for water activities directly off the ship. These small ships can even be chartered for your own amazing, private yacht experience.”

After departing from San Juan, the Sakara reached the Puerto Rican island of Culebra in a few hours, just 20 miles off the coast. We hopped in a taxi van at the port to reach the pristine waters of Flamenco Beach, which consistently makes the world’s top 10 lists. It was a fall-asleep-on-the-sand kind of day, under brightly colored umbrellas, with multiple trips to the canteen for french fries.

“I hope you enjoyed Culebra today because it’s quite hard to get in, through a very narrow channel,” O’Leary said at a supper-hour briefing.

The next day, we stopped at the nearby island of Vieques, which is filled with wild horses – about 2,000 of them – most of which are fully accustomed to the photo op. We docked at Esperanza Bay and wandered the waterfront. Jeeps or ATVs were available to rent for those who wanted to beach-hop, but we settled into the sand at Sun Bay. And when we sailed into Cruz Bay on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John the next day, there were yachts and catamarans everywhere – and the Sakara fit right in.

The crew outdid itself the next day at White Bay Beach on Jost Van Dyke, the smallest of the British Virgin Islands. A barbecue feast awaited us, along with beach loungers, steel drum entertainment, and all the paddles and water toys from the ship. Later, we wandered down the beach to find a young yacht crowd, groups of friends who have rented their boats, all knee-deep in their mojitos.

“I get a real kick out of driving the Emerald Sakara into St. Barths, muscling in and anchoring next to all the other superyachts,” O’Leary said. “It looks good in the pictures.” A stop there brought a snorkeling excursion, a bit of high-end shopping and a few rosé-soaked hours on Plage de Saline.

Back on board, the creature comforts of the Sakara included plenty of outdoor space to connect with the ocean, a small infinity pool, a full-service spa and a large, elegant dining room and terrace. It’s all part of the cushy yacht lifestyle.

The ship will spend the summer and fall cruising the Mediterranean Sea – heading for the French and Italian rivieras, Croatia and Greece – with eight-day itineraries from $5,100. The Emerald Sakara will be back in the Caribbean next December, with eight-day cruises starting at $4,100.

affordable-all-inclusive-resorts-oceana-maya-kidney-shaped-pool

As a travel writer and editor for over a decade, I learned a thing or two about planning domestic and foreign trips…but I didn’t come around to the delight of the practically-planning-free allure of the all-inclusive resort until later in my experience excursion-ing. This appreciation was hard-won—I discovered how much more stressful it is to plan a trip budgeting my own money rather than company funds; you would too, if an a-la-carte resort charged an exorbitant amount for room service oatmeal and pot of coffee. Here are my suggestions for the top affordable all-inclusive resorts I’d travel to in 2024, ranging from beachy escapes in the Caribbean and Mexico to a couple surprising escapes right here in the U.S.

20 of the Best All-Inclusive Resorts in the U.S.

What Are the Advantages to All-Inclusive Resorts?

If you stay at an all-inclusive, you’re (mostly) safe from sticker shock when you’re presented with your final bill. Since the food, resort activities, Wi-Fi, parking and all the other little extras are bundled into the nightly rate, you are free to just roam the grounds booking your dinners, borrowing your water sports equipment and parking your kids in the kids’ club when you want that much-deserved me (or us) time.

However, buyer beware: While the term “all-inclusive” sounds definitive, the precise meaning can change depending on where in the world you’re booking your stay. For example, in coastal Mexican and tropical Caribbean resorts, the label usually means the price of the nightly room includes meals, activities and—this adds up, vacationers—unlimited alcoholic drinks. (So, for instance, imagine you’re on a cruise , except the ship analog would be the boundaries of your Cancun resort.) By contrast, in popular destinations including Hawaii, Las Vegas and continental U.S. resorts, room charges usually only cover the overnight room stay itself, with possibly a breakfast included. In these cases, sometimes domestic resorts will bundle room nights together and add themed perks—say, a show at the resort’s casino and dinner or a set of activities suitable for children—for a special price.

How I Chose the Top Affordable All-Inclusive Resorts

I searched for resorts with high-ranking user reviews costing below $350 per night, including meals and activities. Resort rates can swing wildly—from the premium on high season bookings during spring and summer school holidays, as well as during winter to the relative bargain shoulder season booking opportunities between Thanksgiving and New Year. So for comparison’s sake, I quoted prices for the May-June booking season. When resort rates diverge from the all-meals, all-activities model, I note it in the text. Now then, on to your stress-free moveable feasts of sun, fun and vacation affordability.

Things To Do

Travel | hike canaveral seashore’s klondike beach: a 13-mile trek along wild florida coastline.

Chris Stevens lands on top of a piece of driftwood on Klondike Beach in the backcountry of Canaveral National Seashore. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)

Booming waves crash one over another while pelicans fly overhead and shorebirds forage in the sand, comprising the kind of idyllic sunny beachside scene Florida is known for. Except this time, there aren’t people or high-rise condos for miles around.

This was the view during a 13-mile hike on Klondike Beach, the sandy stretch of Canaveral National Seashore that lies between Apollo Beach on the north end and Playalinda Beach on the south side. I was joined by Chris Stevens, a fellow explorer and outdoor writer for Florida Hikes who is known on Instagram (with his wife and family) as the Sunshine State Seekers .

Chris Stevens, right, joined Central Florida Explorer Patrick Connolly during a hike on Klondike Beach in the backcountry of Canaveral National Seashore on March 29, 2024. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)

It was Good Friday, and something felt almost biblical about our pilgrimage along the undeveloped seashore as we visited the church of nature and fully immersed ourselves in the wild Floridian coastline. At least we had the weather on our side, with high temperatures in the low 70s and a north wind at our backs the whole way.

I don’t know exactly when or how the idea hatched, but I had this hike on my radar for several years and finally found an ideal day and someone crazy enough to do it with me. My pack and gear kit for the day included 3 liters of water, an Arizona tea, a Publix sub, apples, a wide-brimmed straw hat, a sun shirt and hiking boots.

Adventurers who attempt this should be prepared with plenty of sun protection, food and water for hours in the open sun with no amenities. A $5 backcountry permit (available at either ranger station) is required to venture past Apollo Beach lot 5 and Playalinda Beach lot 13.

We set off southward just after 7 a.m. from the end of the road at Apollo Beach, catching a magnificent sunrise with an amber horizon and whispy clouds over the Atlantic as a bright half-moon shone above the Mosquito Lagoon. We first took a turn onto a section of trail or access road on the lagoon side, which continued for several miles as we observed vibrant sea grape leaves, bright red sea beans, white moonflowers in bloom, the occasional prickly pear cactus and mangrove forests. On both sides of the trail, we were flanked by lush green vegetation and saw palmettos.

Eventually, the trail lets out at the beach, which covers about 2/3 of the hike (or you can take the beach the whole way). A note on the Canaveral National Seashore website advertises that crossing protected dunes is unlawful, so be sure to contact a ranger for the best guidance on where to hike and where to avoid.

It’s remarkable to see so much sand and sea without any humans. Small crabs poked their heads out of the sand, curious but cautious at the sight of visitors.

Away from the development of New Smyrna Beach and Titusville, Chris realized there was nothing between us and Africa but the vast ocean (unless you were to stop in Bermuda). We were engulfed by the natural Florida coastline with no reminders of civilization — except for trash and debris that had washed up with the tide, a consistent sight for most of the hike.

I packed grabbers (which Chris graciously agreed to carry), but we ultimately decided that it would be too energy-intensive to walk on sand for 13 miles with heavy bags of trash. However, we picked up a few stray balloons and pieces of litter that traveled with us into the trash can at the end of the hike.

We soon stumbled upon a small shack along the beach labeled as a biological field station. I imagined it would be used by scientists conducting wildlife research for breaks and storage. We welcomed the chance to stop on its small porch for an early lunch and a snack.

A few volunteers on ATVs, likely conducting sea turtle nesting surveys, seemed surprised to see any other human life out there. Those chance encounters made us believe this hike isn’t something people do very often.

An odd, ambiguous piece of debris suggests either a buoy or an item related to space travel during a hike on Klondike Beach in the backcountry of Canaveral National Seashore on March 29, 2024. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)

As we meandered onward, we stopped to look at odd pieces of washed-up debris, including large buoys and one ambiguous piece that could have been either maritime or space-related. At one point, we witnessed a trio of roseate spoonbills soaring over on the lagoon side, and pelican flyovers continued as the afternoon approached.

As we resumed our trek southward, closing in on the final quarter of our remaining mileage, NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building came into view on the hazy horizon. As my mind wandered, I thought of Doris Leeper, a longtime resident of New Smyrna Beach and artist who was instrumental in creating Canaveral National Seashore in 1975.

With the risk of widespread development along the seashore, Leeper fought to preserve the land around her home alongside the Mosquito Lagoon, where she lived with her two Great Danes and created art.

While enjoying the serene scenery unencumbered by beachfront properties and crowds, I also thought about the Indigenous people who first inhabited this stretch of coastline up to 14,000 years ago and the Timucuan people who lived in harmony with the natural landscape for centuries before Europeans ever set foot in Florida.

Within the last few miles of our hike, a ranger pulled up on his ATV and stopped, saying, “I’ve been following your tracks for a long time.”

He asked if we needed any water, but we came prepared for hours outside, although I admitted that we might have a few screws loose for attempting such an endeavor. This wasn’t the kind of outing most normal people decide to do.

As we approached Playalinda’s Beach 13, preparing for the sight of nude sunbathers, we found a congregation of pelicans, flamingoes, gulls and terns gathered on the shore of the lagoon with cormorants perched in the background. We were mindful of our distance but curious to get closer and join in the social affair.

In concluding our hike, I replaced the lens cap on my camera as we began to pass sunbathers in their natural state. We clothed hikers were the ones who looked out of place, gathering curious glances from people inevitably wondering, “Where the heck did they come from?”

After 6 1/2 hours in the sun, Chris and I were delighted to see his wife, Chelsey, and their infant son, who arrived to pick us up from the parking lot. We rushed to Playalinda Brewing Company in Titusville for sandwiches and beer, the most welcome treats after a long day of hiking.

Ultimately, this adventure represented a challenging but beautiful immersion in the wild Florida coastline, one that I won’t soon forget.

Best Executive Club Lounges At Hotels In Bali

Best Executive Club Lounges At Hotels In Bali

We have reviewed hotels in Bali, Indonesia, with the best club or executive lounges to help you decide on the best choice. Whether you are looking for spiritual harmony in Ubud or prefer the beach resorts of Seminyak and Nusa Dua, we have picked the best option below.

If you only plan to overnight in Jakarta on your way to Bali, we have reviewed the best club lounges in Jakarta . Another way to get to Bali is to stop in Singapore. We have also reviewed the best club lounges in Singapore if you want to spend a night or two in the city before heading onward to Bali. There are around twenty flights that connect Singapore to Bali each day. Singapore Airlines is the classiest way to fly this hop, or you can choose SilkAir or low-cost carriers. Alternatively, fly on an International carrier to Denpasar International in Bali. There are flights from the UK via Doha on Qatar Airways, and we are massive fans of the new Qatar QSuite Business Class seat, so this is a great airline to choose from.

The Indonesian island of Bali is known for its dramatic volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, paradise beaches, and coral reefs. Bali is also known as the “Island of Gods,” and there are many distinct areas with different vibes. The Seminyak area is a chic, beachside cosmopolitan dream and thus a favorite with the luxury travel community. It’s famous for its spectacular waves, breathtaking sunsets, and vibrant nightlife. Nusa Dua is derived from the two small islands on Bali’s eastern shoreline. Here, immaculate green manicured lawns front world-class hotels, which are nestled within this luxury enclave. Ubud is the spiritual center of Bali, a place to enjoy culture and arts with views over the lurid green paddy fields.

January is the hottest and also the wettest month in Bali, with temperatures averaging 28°C (82°F). July is the coolest month, averaging 26°C (78°F). Therefore, you can expect a warm, tropical climate all year round but with more rain in November, December, January, and February. The best time to travel to Bali is in April, May, June, and September, just before and just after the high season (which falls in July and August). It is still the dry season in these months, so it is slightly less humid, and room prices and villa rental prices are lower. Due to the tropical greenery on this island, make sure you bring mosquito repellent and jelly shoes that can also be useful at some resorts with rocky shorelines. Others have golden sand beaches, so do your research.

Luxury hotels in Bali, Indonesia, include the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay (no club lounge), Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan (no club lounge), St Regis Bali (no club lounge but great pool rooms), Soori Bali, Bulgari Bali, W Bali Seminyak (no club lounge but a great hotel which we have reviewed ) along with numerous Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott Bonvoy properties including The Laguna Bali (no lounge, but free buffet breakfast for Platinum Marriott Bonvoy members), The Westin Resort Nusa Dua (no lounge, but breakfast, free afternoon tea and light snacks/sweets in the lobby for Platinums), Le Meridien and IHG properties like hotel Indigo Seminyak Beach .

I have compiled a list below containing the club lounges available across luxury hotels in Bali. I list the lounges in Bali that we consider the best. I will be reviewing each of these hotel club lounges in detail so that you know what you will get if you book a room with club lounge access or upgrade to a club lounge for free because of your loyalty status.

1. InterContinental Bali

The InterContinental Bali Resort is nestled in 34 acres of lush tropical gardens overlooking Jimbaran Bay on Bali’s southern tip and is just 10 minutes from Denpasar International Airport (DPS). It has a huge 417 guest rooms, including a Club InterContinental wing and a gorgeous open-air lobby.

Designed with the ambiance of a tranquil Balinese village, this five-star luxury property was the first of its kind to be built on the shores of the beautiful Jimbaran Bay to enjoy stunning sunsets. InterContinental Bali Resort is one of the most conveniently located Jimbaran hotels on the beach. It also has six Balinese-inspired pools, and all this loveliness can be bought for around $200 – $300 USD or a mix of IHG points and cash.

When I originally researched this article, I saw 20,000 points + $128.00 USD per night but couldghts availab not find purely reward-based nile. Midweek in the low season, you could snag a room for as little as $170 USD per room per night. Inevitably, prices have risen, but Bali remains a good value destination, and you may be better off paying for a room with cash than using your points here.

There is plenty of room for sunbathing around the six pools, including one with fountains that you can swim around in and underneath the jets. There is also more room on the beach with comfy loungers everywhere. It is worth noting that the beach is quite rocky, so jelly shoes would be useful here.

IHG Platinum loyalty members usually get a free upgrade from the classic room to a club room here without any club benefits. The rooms themselves are beautiful, with lots of dark wood, and club rooms are slightly larger (624 ft² instead of 527 square feet).

The bathrooms are marble with double vanity and huge, and the rooms have large terraces. Platinum IHG loyalty members can then pay to upgrade access to the InterContinental Club Lounge for around $120 USD per room per night. The IHG Platinum welcome gift includes a fruit plate, chocolates, and a personalized note.

The 24/7 Club InterContinental lounge is very good here. The design is a classic colonial style that meets Oriental refinement with a crystal chandelier centerpiece and a grand piano. There is indoor seating in air-conditioned comfort, leading to an outdoor terrace overlooking a lagoon where you can enjoy complimentary food and drink along with a selection of daily local and international newspapers and lifestyle publications.

Club guests can indulge in a range of complimentary food and beverage options: gourmet breakfast in the lounge or four additional breakfast venues around the resort. Next, you get light refreshments, such as coffees, teas, soft drinks, mineral water, juices, and snacks, then afternoon tea and evening cocktails in the lounge with lots and lots of delicious canapés. The Club InterContinental Lounge also provides an à la carte menu for lunch, dinner, or in-between, but this is a paid menu. Of note, the quality of the food in this lounge is excellent but is nowhere near as generous as the food in the Ritz-Carlton lounge above.

The evening buffet features many small dishes, and the staff serves hot canapés. Club lounge guests also get free cocktails at the Sunset Beach Bar & Grill, but there are no canapes here.

One of the pools is exclusively for Club InterContinental guests. Kids are also allowed but must remain well behaved in this pool. Club InterContinental guests can also use the Jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna at Spa Uluwatu, return airport transfer, 4:00 pm check-out (Platinum status gets till 2:00 pm), and you can continue using the club until you leave the resort (even if you have checked out).

You also get unlimited use of children’s daycare at Planet Trekkers. When you leave, an additional lounge is available with showers, locker facilities, tea and coffee, and an outdoor terrace for guests with late-departing flights.

Book any InterContinental via our concierge to get our free upgrades, free breakfasts, and other special VIP benefits, as well as your usual IHG loyalty points and status benefits.

2. Conrad Bali

If you are a Hilton Honors Diamond member or have any brand loyalty to Hilton, you must try the Conrad Bali, located on the quieter side of the island of Bali, in the Nusa Dua resort area and away from the madness of trendy Seminyak. Take a taxi from the airport to the Conrad Bali Hotel for around $25 USD for a 20-minute taxi ride.

This hotel is simply stunning, from the grand, dark wood lobby with windows that swing open to the vista beyond to the lagoon pools and the huge variety of rooms, some with their own private pool.

The rooms to pick from are the new Pool Villas, which are considered part of the Conrad Suites Wing, with their own separate entrance. The villas are hidden away between the reflections lounge and the executive lounge. Guests staying in these villas will have access to the executive lounge at the Conrad Bali.

These Pool Villas, although not large, are perfectly formed with their own private garden, plunge pool, sun terrace, and outdoor tub. Sliding doors on both sides of your room can be opened up to let the outside in from either the lawns on one side, or you can open up to the private bathtub area on the other. Within the room, you have all the usuals, a double sink, etc., and a large shower area doubling as a private steam room.

The private plunge pool is a highlight in this climate, although bear in mind this is a plunge pool, not an exercise pool, so if you want to exercise, you will need to swim laps in one of the main pools and lagoons. That said, it is magic and sits between the bedroom and your own private lawn in your garden.

Pool Villas at Conrad Bali get all the Conrad Suites benefits. If you are a Hilton Honors Diamond member, you also get these same benefits, the highlight being the Conrad Suites Club Lounge access.

If you are staying in a Suite or a Pool Villa or are a Hilton Honors Diamond member, you get the following benefits:

  • Breakfast at the RIN restaurant
  • Afternoon tea at RIN restaurant
  • Evening cocktails at Conrad Suites Club Lounge
  • Complimentary internet access
  • Complimentary unlimited laundry & dry cleaning
  • 15% off food & beverage in restaurants and bar
  • 15% off meeting room rental
  • 25% off all Jiwa Therapeutic treatments

The breakfast you get with the Pool Villa or being a Hilton Honours Diamond loyalty member is excellent. It can be taken either at RIN or in Suku. RIN is located by the poolside and is a good option. You get a small buffet section along with an a la carte menu, which includes egg dishes like omelets and eggs benedict and some more unusual options, including steak and breakfast burritos.

The Conrad Suite Club Lounge is located directly above RIN. There is also an exclusive Conrad Suites Pool. The Conrad Suites Lounge at Conrad Bali offers a huge range of drinks and cocktails, all presented beautifully, and the canapés are generous and replaced as soon as you finish them, things like sushi, mini-wraps, grilled fish in sauce. They are not comparable to a full meal, but I am a picker when it comes to food, so I found these mini dishes filled me up. For a big eater, they would not be large enough for a full meal.

Compared to the Marriott Bonvoy St Regis hotel in Bali, the Pool Villas in Conrad Bali do not quite match up, but this is considered in the price and cost per enjoyment. The Conrad Bali is hard to beat and is definitely one of the best resorts in Nusa Dua. When you stay in a Conrad Pool Villa, you will wake up to the sound of birdsong and waves lapping on the shore. Paradise? It certainly comes close.

3. Sofitel Bali

The Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort has 415 beautifully appointed rooms, suites, and villas. The beach is a short walk from the swimming pool, where you will find one of the world’s leading beach clubs, Nikki Beach. Nikki Beach is fun but also noisy as it pumps music out onto the beach throughout the day and into the evening, which invades the peace of the hotel’s grounds.

The resort is a 15-minute drive via toll road from the Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International. Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua mixes French elegance with Balinese culture in a lavish 5-star beachfront location. The resort also offers gorgeously landscaped pools and 8 hectares of tropical gardens bordered by an immaculate stretch of white sand on the edge of the Indian Ocean.

The pool is a lazy river in style, meandering under bridges and ending at the main pool area. It is the perfect place to cool off unless you prefer to laze on the beautiful beach that borders the resort. The exceptional SoSPA at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort will help you unwind with soothing treatments and anti-aging treatments. Their kids’ club is ideal for younger guests if you can drag them away from the pool.

The spacious rooms are beautifully furnished with amazing bathrooms offering a walk-in rain shower and a free-standing bathtub. Even the base “luxury” rooms are excellent here. They are large, with 48 m² of living space, a small sofa, and a balcony. The bathroom is open with an excellent bathtub. The welcome gift here is chocolates, bottled water, and fruit. If you upgrade to a Club Room, you get free food and drink and can use a separate and exclusive pool in the Club Lounge (see more below). Room tip: If you have kids, upgrade to a pool access room. Your kids will want to leap straight out of bed and into the pool. For more privacy, if you are a couple, you may want to consider a room with a private plunge pool.

Upgrading to the Club Millésime rooms, suites, and villas offers great value and gives you a quiet and exclusive place to sit, relax, eat, and drink. Club Millésime is located on the 1st floor of the hotel’s main building and offers an exclusive lounge and bar with indoor seating. Inspired by French ‘Art de Recevoir,’ this exclusive club features sumptuous breakfast, all-day refreshments, evening canapés, an extensive selection of wines, butler services, and many other special benefits.

Club Millésime guests (these are Sofitel’s club lounge guests) at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort check-in and out at the private check-in desk in Club Millésime. It’s a nice way to arrive, and you are given a welcome drink and hot towel on arrival.

Club Millésime guests get the following privileges:

  • Welcome drink and fruits upon arrival (as described above)
  • All-day refreshments (tea, coffee, juices, and soft drinks)
  • Complimentary local landline calls
  • Complimentary pressing of two garments per stay
  • Daily afternoon tea
  • Daily buffet breakfast at Kwee Zeen or at Club Millésime
  • Daily evening cocktail/ Millésime wine tasting from
  • Personalised check-in and check-out at Club Millésime lounge
  • Butler service (only for Suites & Villas)
  • Shoeshine service (only for Suites & Villas)
  • Late check-out for Le Club Accorhotels Platinum members (subject to availability)
  • If you are trying to cool off from the heat, try an Iced Latte or my personal favorite, Lychee Iced Tea – just remember to tell them to hold off the sugar, though. Even though the spread wasn’t extensive in the club lounge, I thought that they were quite well-executed, and I also liked that there was a mixture of both hot and cold items

The Club Millésime is a stylish lounge with a pool table, video games, and magazines if the weather isn’t kind during your vacation. There is also an outdoor terrace as part of this lounge.

In the morning, you can have breakfast in Kwee Zeen, which is built around a spiral staircase from the lobby. Seating is both indoors and outdoors, and there are loads of buffet choices, including bread, pastries, fruit, yogurts, and cereals, plus cook-to-order food stations for eggs and dishes like Indonesian noodles.

Evening cocktails and wine tasting take place in the lounge and is a refined occasion with loads of wines and some great cocktails, along with high-quality light bites and hot canapés passed around by the lounge staff. The canapés are really good and include sandwiches, cheese, and veggies on toast in canape style, as well as lots of desserts, but all in very small portions, which may or may not be enough to fill you up. You might find you need to eat out in the evening.

The Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort offers lime green tropical grounds, beautiful pools, and picture-perfect beaches under the Bali sunshine. The colors are amazing, the staff are amazing and always smiling, the meandering tropical pool is amazing, and the beach.. you’ve got it.. is amazing too.

Book the Sofitel Bali via our concierge to get free benefits as well as your usual Accor loyalty points and status benefits.

We also offer the same benefits at Amarterra Villas Bali Nusa Dua Mgallery Collection by Accor, but there is sadly no club lounge at Amarterra Villas.

4. Grand Hyatt Bali

The Grand Hyatt is located in Nusa Dua on the southernmost tip of Bali, with beaches on both sides of the resort. This hotel offers great value on paid stays, and if you book through our concierge, we can get you some brilliant additional free benefits at this Hyatt for no extra cost.

While the rooms are typical Asian Hyatt, which is a good version of American Hyatt’s, the bathrooms at this Hyatt are truly stunning and massive in the suites with masses of cream marble and a separate shower and tub.

The resort itself is edged by the most glorious golden sand, which enjoys stunning sunrises and has numerous pools. Some seem aimed at families, while others are more adult-orientated. One has a kid’s waterslide, which will attract your kids.

Club rooms have their own building situated by the Club lounge and with a private Club pool. The Grand Club is open-air and designed to look like a Balinese house with straw roofing, breakfast and cocktail hours, and all-day snacks and drinks.

Breakfast is continental and more, with fruit, yogurt, bread, and pastries, along with chefs cooking egg orders and pancakes. Two additional hot items are served daily, like sausage and mushrooms are also served.

During happy hour, you get cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits, along with a huge amount of food; soup, veggies, burritos, spring rolls, bread, dips, and desserts. All delicious and more than enough to fill you up.

The club lounge here is well worth the upgrade, even if you are booking on points and have to pay for it. This Grand Hyatt is a bargain At 12,000 points per night or around $200 USD per night, and although there is not much to do in the immediate vicinity (the same goes throughout Nusa Dua, you are somewhat stuck in your resort), this hotel is a magical place to stay.

The Grand Hyatt Bali is a Category 3 World of Hyatt property, requiring just 12,000 points per night. Book the rest of your stay at the Grand Hyatt Bali with our concierge, and you will get free benefits as well as your usual World Of Hyatt points and status benefits.

9. The Ritz-Carlton Bali

A special mention goes to The Ritz-Carlton Bali, which offers 313 spacious and sumptuously appointed suites and villas in an elegant tropical ambiance. This luxurious resort also benefits from a stunning clifftop and beachside setting.

There used to be a club lounge at this Ritz-Carlton, but it is sadly no longer present. There are six stylish dining venues, an indulgent and exotic marine-inspired Spa, a charming beachfront chapel, fun and recreational activities at Ritz Kids, and extensive meeting and celebratory event venues but there is no club lounge.

Their club lounge used to be great, with its own private pool and a staffed cocktail bar. This particularly excellent club lounge was located in its own villa halfway between the bottom of the lobby and the beach. Ritz-Carlton Club lounges have always been exceptional and are usually the best available. They offer an extensive breakfast, light lunch, afternoon tea, light dinner, and desserts. Here are the best Ritz-Carlton club lounges in the world for your perusal:

Best Ritz-Carlton Executive Club Lounges

Best Ritz-Carlton Executive Club Lounges

Recommended Post In "Tips"

Ritz-Carlton executive club lounges are some of the best club lounges in the world. Usually, they include five daily meal presentations, complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day, and alcoholic drinks and events such as wine flights in the late afternoon and evening. Add in a sophisticated environment and often amazing views, and you will understand why these lounges can be worth paying extra for. Marriott Platinum members do not get free access to Ritz-Carlton club lounges.

This lounge offers red and white wine and beer all day with special cocktails, spirits, and after-dinner liquors. The food on offer was massively generous, with 2 Chefs at any one time to cook up items to order. Breakfast options included everything you could wish for, including Lobster scrambled eggs.

Every food presentation included a full buffet as well as four hot items. Lunch onwards also has canapes. The quality of the food was exceptional in this club lounge and skews towards Indonesian specialties, Japanese Sushi and Sashimi, and Seafood.

But this lounge no longer exists, so you will have to look elsewhere. We love the InterContinental and the Conrad. Both hotels are great in themselves and they offer great club lounges too.

What is the Tully Difference? The most satisfying travel experiences are the ones that captivate and transform you as a person and that deepen your connection to the world around you. It is that belief that fuels our desire to create rewarding travel experiences for people who are passionate about discovering the essence and heart of a destination.

The Tully Difference

Luxury beach vacations.

Imagine the total tranquility of quality time spent on the water, in the water, under the water. Or maybe you’re totally satisfied with just the white-sand side of things. Whichever way you choose to look at your luxury beach vacation, Tully Luxury Travel will help you find that perfect beach, the one in the back of your mind’s eye.

Bespoke Beach Chic

The perfectly private palm-shaded coves and sun-drenched inlets of the world’s private luxury resorts meet all the rejuvenation requirements — professional staff, private plunge pools, culinary delights, and no one around for miles. Over-water bungalows provide for over-the-top romance, together time the only order of the day. From your private deck, you can see the beach, the small boats in the lagoon, the fish in the reefs below — and your book, all at the same time.

beach travel luxury

An activity-filled luxury eco-adventure at the beach brings with it all the afternoon sails and sunset cruises you can muster, with plenty of time set aside for the hammock. Even if all you need is a quiet, adults-only boutique hotel at the far end of an isolated beach, we can find it.

Australia’s Whitsunday Islands has its Whitehaven Beach. Grand Cayman has its Seven Mile Beach. Grenada comes through with the brilliant Grand Anse and Vancouver Island is famous for Chesterman Beach. From Dominica to Dubai, Phuket to Bali, there are ocean views that have to be seen to be believed.

It’s time to start making your list. Let us know when you’re ready to dig your toes in the white sand, feel the sun on your face, take a full breath of fresh sea air—and let it out as slowly as you can.

Experience...

If you’re considering bespoke private luxury travel, let our expert Travel Designers make your vacation truly customized from start to finish.

11 of the Chicest Pool Towels for Waterside Lounging

Stay stylish by the water with these brightly hued towels.

Not all beach and pool towels are made the same, though. There are super plush loop woven towels made for luxurious absorbency as well as the thinner, lightweight cotton towels designed to dry quickly. It's always nice to have a few in your arsenal to fit whatever water adventure you find yourself on. No matter the excursion—from a weekend at the lake to the summer at the beach—these brightly hued beach towels are sure to make a splash. Here, the best beach towels to buy right now.

Umida Ikat Blue Beach Towel

Umida Ikat Blue Beach Towel

Bright blue and just a little bold, this chic beach towel has the power to make you feel like you're on an exotic vacation (even at the local pool). The 100% cotton beach towel takes inspiration from Uzbeki Ikat weavers, which make for an utterly tasteful look.

Beach Towel

Beach Towel

A cute, personalized beach towel can be hard to find, but that's why we love Weezie. Known for its stellar bath towels, the brand has dipped its toe into fun, beach-worthy pieces as well. From cover-ups to bigger beach towels, the 100% terry cloth creations are sure to impress.

What Reviewers Say: " I absolutely love my beach towels! They are soft and beautiful! Monogram makes them feel customized and so very special."

Mallorca Beach Towel

Mallorca Beach Towel

Want a towel in a classic style with the technology of the new era? This oh-so-plush towel, made of Turkish Aegean cotton with a hand-knotted finished edge, comes in a traditional stripe that feels a little retro. Available in colors that range from French Blue to Canary, you'll be sure to find one that's within your color palette.

Maui Beach Towel

Maui Beach Towel

Inspired by summer sunsets in Hawaii, these boldly hued towels will add a fun, graphic punch to any beach day. One side of the towel boasts a smooth velour while the other is a plush terry, making it an accessory that's both chic and practical.

Handwoven Turkish Beach Towel

Handwoven Turkish Beach Towel

This soft hued towel made by a generationally owned Turkish textile company, House no. 23, has an old world feel to it.

What Reviewers Say: " I received my handwoven Turkish beach towel and was pleasantly surprised at how well made it is. The beach towel is soft. The size of the beach towel is large enough to wrap nicely around me and pretty enough to use as a throw on a chair or couch."

The Beach Towel

The Beach Towel

An all-white towel is the embodiment of luxury. Clean, elegant and welcoming, there is something about a crisp white that we can't help but love. Made from 100% cotton, this Business and Pleasure Co. towel is made with high-quality materials for the most elevated, plush experience.

Zebra Palm Beach Towel

Zebra Palm Beach Towel

A well-made towel will last you for years. After taking a dip, this luxe beach towel from Matouk will wrap you in lightweight comfort. The design, a playful combination of zebra stripes and palm leaves, will look great in any setting.

Hele Cotton Beach Towel

Hele Cotton Beach Towel

Colorful, artistic designs are the heart of the textile brand Slowtide. Made from 100% cotton, the creative patterns and fun colorways make this a luxury towel one the whole family is sure to love. Buy each person a different pattern so they always know which one is theirs.

Classic Stripe Resort Towel

Classic Stripe Resort Towel

Cozy Earth has come up with a beach towel that goes beyond the traditional 100% cotton material. Using 60% cotton and 40% bamboo, the towel embraces a new, luxury experience that's far different than what we've grown to expect. The plush, elegant feel of the towel is almost silk-like, making it the envy of everyone.

Roman Cotton Pool Towel

Roman Cotton Pool Towel

This towel is made of certified organic cotton terry cloth and has a distinctly modern European feel. Baina, an Antipodean brand that focuses on a modern approach to color, created this bold checked pattern that's a fun play on a classic design.

Bondi Beach Blanket

Bondi Beach Blanket

Looking for something that doesn't take up as much space in your beach bag as the typical towel? Try a beach blanket. This brightly colored beach blanket is lightweight, but still ultra-absorbent. It's perfect for tossing into your bag for last-minute trips to the pool or the beach. The flat-woven peshtemal material makes this a great sand-wicking option.
