About Bhaya Premium Cruise

Bhaya Classic Premium Cruise was launched in April 2015, featuring small and intimate boat that places a strong focus on privacy and luxury. The cruise has anywhere between 3 and 7 cabins allowing small group or couples on honeymoon to enjoy extra care from staff.

All cabins have balcony and have average size of 20 sqm. Triple cabin is availble allowing family with children or group of 3 friends to find more option to stay. Connecting cabins are available on request.

Cruise itinerary

Arrive to Bhaya Cruise Centre at Tuan Chau Island at noon. Board the boat. Enjoy welcome drinks and a quick briefing of the itinerary and safety information by Cruise Manager. 

Return to boat and enjoy Happy Hour or cooking demonstration on board.Cooking demonstration with traditional Vietnamese food on the sundeck (in the restaurant if weather does not allow). At 17:00, the bar opens for Happy Hour "Buy one get one free" and complimentary snacks The boat cruises back through the bay to its overnight anchorage in Ho Dong Tien area.

Sumptuous set menu dinner will be served in the restaurant. Free time or squid fishing at reception, or relaxing at the bar.

Early start for a Tai Chi demonstration on the sundeck; tea and coffee are available at 6:15 am. Then light breakfast will be served in the restaurant. Lunch is served on the day boat. Access Trinh Nu Cave. Enjoy kayaking around the pristine beach and admire the serene scenery here.

Bhaya Premium must be the best for relaxation and privacy. The view was spectacular. There were a variety of activities onboard.

Privacy. Dedicated and attentive service. Friendly staff. Marvelous view.

Overall a good first-time experience in Halong Bay. The ship was a bit old but perfect with only 4 cabins. We felt very comfortable and relaxed in all activities and excursions. The scenery was picturesque. The balcony to watch the bay from your cabin was a must. Food was abundant and tasty. We will come back to this place soon.

10:30 At Tuan Chau harbour, we disembark and end our tour with a final wave to the staff.

17:00 Enjoy the sunset party upon returning to the Bhaya Classic Premium as our Masterchef competition begins on the top deck. Watch carefully as our chef demonstrations the necessary fruit-carving skills before you have a go yourself in an attempt to win the top prize.

  Day 2:  Discover Halong Bay (B/L/D)

06:30 Halong Bay’s gorgeous sunrise will take place as we greet it atop the sundeck with a relaxing tai chi session.

07:00 After you enjoy the breakfast laid out for you in the dining room, you will board our nimble day boat to begin cruising. Our destination is Coc Cheo, where parts of the film Kong: Skull Island were filmed in 2017.

09:00 Coc Cheo is one of the quieter areas to experuebce in Halong Bay and we will enjoy the morning here via swimming and kayaking.

11:00 Following this we take a trip to a nearby pearl farm, where one of the bay’s most lucrative trades takes place.

12:30 We will enjoy lunch here today on the floating platform surrounded by incredible forested mountains.

13:30 You have an afternoon of pure serenity ahead of you once we have re-boarded the Bhaya Classic Premium. Soak up the amazing atmosphere in your own way.

09:00 Return to the Bhaya Classic Premium for the last time as we sit down for a full and delicious brunch served in the dining room.

10:00 We start the cruise back to the harbour, arriving, disembarking and ending your tour with Bhaya Cruises.

• When a cancellation is made before or during the departure date and the trip must be shortened from 2 nights to 1 night, 2 days 1 night trip, plus other used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded.

The Bhaya Premium Cruise Line is a fleet of five, small and intimate, boutique ships, offering 1-night shared and 2-night private charter itineraries through Halong Bay and the less crowded but equally beautiful Lan Ha Bay in Northern Vietnam, with a strong focus on privacy and luxury. Life On Board

With 7 crew members on the 3-cabin boat, and 10 crew members on the 4, 5, 6 & 7-cabin boats, the Bhaya Premium fleet offer high crew-to-passenger ratios, allowing small groups or couples on honeymoon to enjoy extra attentive service and care from the staff. One of the great features of Bhaya Premium cabins is that they each have the capacity to hold triple occupancy with the addition of a rollout bed, and all enjoy a private balcony with a sitting area, providing a comfortable space to view Halong Bay’s spectacular seascapes.

The Bhaya Premium’s sundeck, restaurant & bar are also ideal places to enjoy views of the passing scenery and spend some time with your travel companions. With the largest of these Bhaya Premium boats accommodating a maximum of only 16 overnight passengers, and the smallest just 6, you are guaranteed a personal experience and an intimate, warm atmosphere for taking in Halong Bay’s spectacular scenery.

You can practice Tai Chi on the sundeck as the sun rises over the acclaimed UNESCO Heritage Site. This low-impact, slow-motion, dance-like form of martial arts is often described as “meditation in motion” and is a very relaxing type of exercise. Also onboard, you can observe cooking and fruit carving demonstrations by the chef and try your hand at creating authentic Vietnamese dishes.

The onboard dining room serves fusion style cuisine: international, seafood, Asian and classic Vietnamese. Meals are served buffet style, or from an a la carte menu or a set menu. Kids’ meals and special dietary requirements are catered for. 

On Shore & Water Activities

Shore and water activities include kayaking and swimming, squid fishing, and visits to caves. In fact, you can kayak through caves into stunning bays. E xplore Sung Sot Cave, the largest cave inside Halong Bay with 12,000 square yards of space home to thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. As the light streams across the water and makes flickering patterns on the inside of the cave, it looks as if the formations are coming to life.

Another amazing experience is a visit to Thien Canh Son Cave, which is a vast cavern comprising three main chambers with an access path hidden under the forest canopy. Formations inside the cave are said to resemble a lotus, a baby elephant, seals, and flowers.

Meanwhile, the Vung Vieng floating village is where the local people have lived for generations drifting on the sea. Anchored together, they weather through rising tides, crashing storms, and an ever-changing world. The people here are fishermen, and their lives are intrinsically tied to the ocean. They have built boats and floating homes that provide their shelter, their transportation, and their culture. The village is ideally explored by kayak or in a traditional rowing boat.

Halong Bay is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous regions in Vietnam, consisting of a series of amazing limestone islands, caves, isolated bays, pristine beaches and pretty inlets. Lan Ha Bay to the south features the same majestic vista of towering karst outcrops that tourists typically associate with Halong but with a conspicuous absence of crowds. Main deck cabin.

The Main Deck cabins vary in size depending on the vessel, but all feature polished hardwood floors, mini-bar, climate control, a private balcony with a sitting area, and modern ensuite bathrooms, each with a glass-enclosed shower or bathtub.

There are convertible double/twin beds with deluxe bedding, and triple occupancy is possible with the addition of a rollout bed. On the larger 5-7 cabin boats, there is one pair of connecting cabins.

Upper Deck Cabin

The Upper Deck cabins also vary in size depending on the vessel, but are typically slightly larger and feature the same amenities.

Again triple occupancy is possible with the addition of a rollout bed, subject to the maximum capacity of the boat, but configuration-wise they differ in that the beds are fixed doubles which cannot be converted.

The space in a Bhaya Classic Premium cabin is very comfortable for up to three passengers and connecting rooms prove perfect for families. Bhaya Classic Premium Cruise 2 days 1 night

12.00 We will meet at Tuan Chau harbour at midday, sipping on a welcome drink as we board the Bhaya Classic Premium.

13.00 We begin cruising southwest, to the heart of Halong Bay, doing so while sitting down for lunch and watching the stunning scene of limestone mountains scroll by the window.

15.00 Relax into your cruise on the way to Tien Ong Cave. Once we arrive, we will explore the ancient site and marvel at the various rock formations. This cave is the location of some of Halong Bay’s earliest inhabitants.

17.00 Returning to the Bhaya Classic Premium, we refresh for the sunset party on the top deck as the sun falls beyond the horizon.

17.30 Watch our chef’s masterful demonstration of how to carve flowers out of fruits, before having a go yourself and competing for the top prize in our ‘Masterchef Competition’.

19.00 There will be a beautiful dinner served in our gleaming dining room.

21.00 Feel free to indulge cocktails at the bar after dinner; alternatively, we have board games, card games and squid fishing with the crew, surely a new experience for most guests on board.

06.15 Watch the magic begin in Halong Bay from the top deck, the best location to watch the sunrise and the only location to engage in our invigorating Tai Chi class.

07.00 We pull up anchor and set sail for Cua Van Fishing Village, one of the handful of colourful floating villages dotted around Halong Bay and its sister bays. A light breakfast will be laid out as we sail over.

07.45 We enter the waters around Cua Van Fishing Village in either a kayak or a sampan boat rowed by a local. Take in the views of the tiny commune amid the peaceful background of Halong Bay’s limestone karsts dressed in their new morning light.

09.00 A full brunch in the dining room will be laid out as we begin sailing back to Tuan Chau Harbour. Get the last of your photos of Halong Bay’s famous islets from the sundeck en route.

07.30 - 08.30 Your driver will meet you and take you from your hotel lobby in Hanoi to Halong Bay (Book your transfer in the next step).

12.00 Arrive at Tuan Chau Habour, our cruise manager will give you a quick safety briefing once you have embarked on the Bhaya Classic Cruise. After your complimentary welcome drink, enjoy a leisurely lunch as we pass the famous islets on our way to Halong Bay’s southwest corner.

15.00 We will pull up to one of the finest caves in Halong Bay; the Tien Ong Cave; a huge system of dramatic stalactites and stalagmites illuminated in colourful lights.

17.00 After a few hours at the cave, we return to the Bhaya Classic Premium Cruise ship in time for happy hour. We will have a cooking demonstration to show you how to make traditional Vietnamese food out in the open, also featuring our Master Chef Competition where the best fruit carver will win special prizes! We will drop anchor in the Ho Dong Tien area for the night, quite possibly the best place to stay in Halong Bay.

19.00 Savour your second luxury meal on board as your guide explains the itinerary for tomorrow. Take the rest of the evening at your own pace, maybe relax with a book or join the crew for a bit of squid fishing before you head to your cabin for the night.

06.15 - 08.30 There will be an invigorating Tai Chi session on the top deck for the early risers. Anyone up later can join for breakfast in the restaurant while the magnificent rocks of Halong Bay scroll by past in the window.

09.00 Once we’ve transferred to the Bhaya Spirit, our day boat, we will cruise past many more famous Halong Bay islands until we arrive at the quiet Coc Cheo Islet area, where we can swim and kayak freely.

11.00 After a tour of the floating pearl farm and an educational demonstration of pearl cultivating and finery processing, we will have a very local lunch on the farm.

15.00 Transfer back to the Bhaya Classic Premium Cruise ship and relax.

17.00 Happy hour will restart at the bar. Take a cocktail out to the deck for fantastic views of the bay.

19.00 Enjoy another lavish dinner as sun sets over Halong Bay, followed by a relaxing evening. Take in a movie or head outside for squid fishing. Settle down for your last night on this beautiful Halong Bay junk boat .

12:00: Stop at a floating pearl farm for a special local lunch experience with authentic Vietnamese style menu.

After lunch, the Bhaya Spirit cruises through the less touristy areas of the bay, passes Ho Ba Ham Area, Ba Men Temple, But Island, Me Cung Cave.

17:30: Back to the Bhaya Cruise to enjoy a sunset time onboard. The "Happy Hour" program (buy 1 get 1) happens again along with the cooking class on the top deck.

Cancellation by Halong Bay Management Board due to bad weather

If the cancellation is made by the Halong Bay Management Board, following policies will be applied depending on the time of cancellation. 

• When a cancellation is made before departure date- check-in date (if no services have been used): 100% refund. 

• When a cancellation is made during the trip (some services have been used such as transfer, food, some amenities, etc.): used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded.

• When a cancellation is made before or during the departure date and the trip must be shortened from 2 nights to 1 night, 2 days 1 night trip, plus other used services will be charged, the rest will be refunded.

• The final cost will be confirmed by your consultant via email. In all cases, please contact us directly for any urgent help. We are here to support you!

Stay Strange: Cruising Lan Ha & Halong Bay in Style | Vietnam

This post on our Lan Ha & Halong Bay cruise is part of a partnership with Bhaya Cruises. They hosted us on The Au Co cruise in exchange for an honest review, but all opinions are my own.

There are only a handful of occasions I’d board a cruise ship for. As an independent traveler with a tendency towards seasickness, cruising has never been my thing. But Halong Bay is a notable exception. The cluster of 2,000 islets in the Gulf of Tonkin is basically impossible to explore without a boat. And if you’re going to do a cruise, you might as well do it right. Get yourself on a stylish Halong Bay cruise and you’ll enjoy your time on the boat as much as you do the off-boat activities.

Last time I was in Vietnam, we explored the lesser-known Bai Tu Long Bay . The reason I opted for the trip with Bhaya this time was that in addition to Halong Bay, they have the only boats with permission to cruise both on Lan Ha Bay & Halong Bay. Aboard The Au Co with Bhaya Cruise

Bhaya Cruises is one of the best-reviewed operators running cruises on Halong Bay. This says A LOT once you realize just how many scammy operators are running the trip. Bhaya Classic is their most affordable cruise aboard a wooden junk boat shared with 30-40 other passengers. Their Bhaya Premium cruise runs in a smaller wooden junk boat with capacity for just 6-14 passengers. Our cruise was on The Au Co  which is their most luxury Halong Bay cruise that emphasizes comfort and cultural experience. It’s a steel ship with first-class facilities and space for up to 66 passengers. All the rooms are incredible, the excursions are exclusive, and the cuisine is seriously impressive. And most interestingly, it’s the boat that will get you to both Halong & Lan Ha Bay without ever having to switch rooms.

Rooms: The Au Co has five room types: Deluxe Cabins, Grand Deluxe Cabins, Executive Cabins, Long Quan Suites, & Au Co Suites. But, look. You’re on a very nice ship! You’ll find that you’re comfy regardless of what room type you end up in. Each cabin has an en suite bathroom, private balcony, sea views, tasteful furnishings, and somewhat constant turndown service. The main difference between room types is where they’re located on the boat and how big they are. We spent the night in the Au Co Suite (holy upgrade!) located on the bow of the ship. The absolute best part of this room was that our balcony wrapped around the front of the boat. I guess I don’t have to sell you on why that was awesome.

Value: Bhaya Classic is Bhaya’s most affordable cruise aboard a wooden junk boat with 2D/1N trips starting from $135 per person. Bhaya Premium cruises in a smaller wooden junk boat with capacity for just 6-14 passengers, so you’ll have a quieter onboard. These 2D/1N trips start from $235 per person. Our cruise was on The Au Co. The prices are inclusive of round-trip transfer from Hanoi, room, board, and all activities. DINING & SERVICE

Every meal on The Au Co is a five-course experience. We’re talking dishes like “Dragon Fruit Salad with Scallop” and “Grilled Prawn Thermidor served with Wasabi Mashed Sweet Potatoes”. The menu falls somewhere between Vietnamese and modern, with plenty of seafood (some of which is plucked right out of the Gulf of Tonkin). All meals are included but drinks come at an extra charge. Prices for drinks are quite high by Vietnamese standards (probably on par with what you’d expect at home), but there is a daily happy hour where drinks are two-for-one.

You can expect similarly excellent table service in the dining room and excellent service in general. The staff is really  the best part of this trip. There’s an incredible amount of staff onboard, so you’ll have your doors opened and turndown service between meals. The timing of everything was seriously precise and the transitions seamless. But to be honest, I’m not quite used to such a high level of service! I was most comfortable when the staff threw on t-shirts and joined us for biking or kayaking excursions. Most of them are young Vietnamese people who spend most of their weeks living and working on this boat, and the informal setting made it more fun to have a chat with them.

It’s pretty ridiculous to go to Halong Bay without getting out on a kayak. While the views from the boat are nice (I mean, of course they are), there’s nothing quite like getting down at level with the water and paddling into little coves. The water is perfectly still so no real experience or fitness is required. There were two opportunities for kayaking during our three-day cruise. These were awesome, and I only wish there were more!

The highlight of the cruise with Bhaya is that it sails around Lan Ha Bay and docks on the quieter south side of Cat Ba Island. Cat Ba is the largest island in Halong Bay and one of the few inhabitable ones. It’s an absolutely beautiful island with similar geology to Halong Bay, only with land beneath your feet. Bhaya sponsors projects in the remote Viet Hai village which also gives them nearly-exclusive access to the area. Probably the best part of the whole trip was the bike ride along a well-defined path to Viet Hai. It’s a chance to experience a small Vietnamese community that hasn’t been so impacted by tourism. I especially liked walking past the newly constructed school and community-managed farm. Cultural tourism can go wrong really quickly, but the experience in Viet Hai felt completely authentic.

We were more focused on the adventure side of things, but there was a ton going on on the boat worth noting. There are some pretty nice onboard amenities like a spa, jacuzzi, and sun deck. Bhaya also organizes on boat activities, typically when the boat is anchored for the night. The ones that stood out for me were the fruit carving demo and spring roll rolling contest. After you see how incredible the meals they prepare on the boat are, it’s interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at how much work actually goes into preparation. I mean, how quickly could you carve a watermelon into a flower?

The main reasons you’d choose The Au Co cruise over others is if you value comfort .  It was my second experience cruising on Halong Bay , and the boat and standard of service on The Au Co next to my last trip is incomparable. The boat is spacious, the rooms are clean, the meals are excellent, and the staff is super nice. Also, The Au Co has the only boat that can tour both Halong & Lan Ha Bay without changing boats, meaning you can settle in more than you can on some of the Bai Tu Long Bay cruises where you have to switch boats on your second day.

The biggest drawbacks of luxury are that the trip is more expensive and lighter on adventure activities. It’s also worth noting the crowd skews a bit older (which I personally enjoyed), but it might not be your thing if you’re looking for a party cruise.

15:00 Kayak around the Trinh Nu area or visit Trinh Nu Cave – one of the finest sunlight-filled caves in Halong Bay, covering an area of 2,000m2 with stunning stalactites and stalagmites.

17:00 Return to the boat and freshen up for the evening’s activities. Bar opens for a Happy Hour promotion on a selection of drinks.

17:30 Join the exciting cooking or fruit carving demonstration on the sundeck (or in the restaurant, depending on the weather). Don’t miss out on the stunning view of the sunset over the enchanting Halong Bay from the sundeck of the boat.

07:20 Avoid the morning crowd and explore Sung Sot Cave, the largest cave inside Halong Bay with 10,000 square meters of space that holds thousands of stalactites and stalagmites and is threaded by a 500-meter paved passageway.

08:20 Return to the boat and enjoy the brunch served in the restaurant.

09:00 The boat heads back to the pier. Time to pack your luggage and get ready to check out. Enjoy the scenery as the boat cruises back to the port.

10:30 Disembark from the boat at Tuan Chau International Marina. Goodbye, and see you again!

16:00 Return to the Bhaya boat for some time at leisure to relax and freshen up after the day’s excursions.
