10 Best Bars & Clubs in Bucharest for a Terrific Nightlife

Last Modified: January 22, 2024 //  by  Anda //   19 Comments

Bucharest has a reputation for being a party city, but few visitors actually know how complex and eccentric the city’s nightlife really is. From rooftop bars and decadent spa gatherings to jam-packed clubs, Bucharest has an abundance of venues where you can spend a fabulous evening or dance the night away.

About Bucharest Nightlife

Where to spend a night out in bucharest, interbelic cocktail bar, nomad skybar, the urbanist, fix me a drink, grādina eden (the garden of eden), bamboo club, fratelli club, control club, player club, practical tips for going out at night in bucharest.

Romania’s capital has come a long way since the days of communism. Back in the 70s, 80s there were only a handful of bars and clubs around. But after 2007, when Romania joined the European Union, Bucharest began emerging from the shadows of its Communist past. As a result, a huge variety of bars, pubs and clubs began popping everywhere in the city.

From romantic beer gardens, rooftop bars with crowds spilling out onto terraces, and jam-packed noisy clubs, you can find just about any kind of night entertainment you want in Bucharest these days. Everywhere you go, the atmosphere is lively and entertaining, so if you find the right spot for your taste, you can have a lot of fun.

The party scene in Bucharest is spread all around town. While the Northern part of the city is famous for fancy bars and affluent clubs, the Downtown areas like Universitate , or Romanā , are a good choice for a cozier night out.

Nightlife in Bucharest Old Town

But the most popular and crowded spot in town is undoubtedly Centrul Vechi (the Old Town) and the pedestrian streets around Lipscani . This is where all the hustle and bustle happens in Bucharest.

The atmosphere here is quite unique, with bars and clubs crammed into each other, blasting out loud music, and strippers dancing in bar windows. This is where you’ll also find the red light district , which offers a whole range of adult entertainment.

10 Best Clubs and Bars in Bucharest

On our latest visit to Romania, I asked our 30-year nephew from Bucharest to give us a tour of the best places to spend a night out in the city. He stepped up to the task and in the days that followed we crawled quite a few nightlife venues in Bucharest.

So if you’re looking for a place to go out and party, or just want to kick back with a craft beer or a cocktail, this guide will tell you what the locals consider the 10 best bars and clubs in Bucharest.

This is one the nicest rooftop bars in the center of Bucharest. I love this place! It has good vibes, great music and the best cocktails in town. And the price is decent too: only $6, as opposed to $12-$14 we pay here in the US. The bar also features a beautiful terrace from where you can enjoy stunning views of the city.

Interbelic Cocktail Bar

Interbelic is located on the top floor of Magazinul Victoria (Victoria Store), but there is no clear sign to point to it. So unless you know exactly where it is, you may miss it.

Address : Calea Victoriei 17, Bucharest, Romania. The bar is open daily from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am, and on Weekends from 5:00 pm until 6:00 am.

Located above the crowded streets and pubs of the Old Town, Nomad Skybar is a trendy and vibrant place where you can also eat and dance. In fact, the bar’s motto is: ‘Eat, Drink, Dance’ .

Nomad Skybar

The main part of the bar/restaurant is covered, but there is also a beautiful terrace with bar stools that offers beautiful views of the old town buildings.

Pro Tip: The bar is very popular and therefore it’s almost always crowded. To avoid disappointment, either go in early or reserve a table!

Address : Strada Smârdan No. 30, Bucharest, Romania . The bar is open Monday to Friday from 4pm to midnight and on Weekends from noon to midnight.

This is not your regular, traditional bar, as they also have a small retail shop on the premisses. The Urbanist is rather a hub where fashion, culture and music interact under the roof of a club.

This place is just as lively during the day as it is at night. It’s the perfect choice if you want to spend some time with old friends, or drop by for a cup of coffee. They serve great cocktails, speciality coffee, local craft beers, as well as tasty sandwiches and perfectly cooked croissants.

The Urbanist Bar

The bar has outside sitting as well, but we preferred sitting inside and listening to their music.

Address: Strada Căldărari No. 3, Bucharest, Romania . The bar is open daily from 8:30 am to 3:00 a.m.

If only these walls could talk! From a house built for princes, to a a notorious brothel, then a luxury hotel, this place has seen it all.

Bordello Bar

Located right in the heart of Bucharest’s Old town, Bordello is a loud, fun, exciting, and funky nightlife spot. A very lively place, especially in the evenings when they have live music and on Saturday nights when they offer a cabaret show with dancers, singers and a magician. After the show, the place turns into a club. A really cool place for a night out in Bucharest!

Nude photographs from the 1920s on the wall at Bordello Bar

The walls are decorated with nude photos of beautiful women from the 1920s. The atmosphere reminded me of the famous Moulin Rouge, in Paris . The place has a sensual aura, but also good music and drinks.

Pro Tip: Come here for the show, the drinks and the atmosphere. The food is not so great, so you should have dinner beforehand.

Address : Strada Șelari 9-11, Bucharest, Romania. The club is open Monday to Thursday from noon to 2:00 am and Friday to Sunday from noon to 4:00 am.

When I fist tried a cocktail at FIX I had a flash back memory from Sweden. The taste reminded me a lot of the bizarre Pharmarium Bar in Stockholm’s Gamla Stan. Fix Me a Drink is the same kind of mixology bar that incorporates botanicals and other natural ingredients into its drinks.

Fix Me a Drink Bar in Bucharest

The place is relatively small, but with a nice ambiance and plenty of cozy seating for sharing a great cocktail, craft beer, or wine. Just perfect for a night drink – dim lights, shadows casted on the wall from plants around.

Drinks at a bar in Bucharest

The location is not so easy to find, as the bar is well hidden in an old building which at first sight doesn’t meet the eye. Nonetheless, it’s well worth a visit.

Address : Strada Ion Brezoianu 23-25, Universul building B, 1st floor, Bucharest, Romania. The bar is open daily from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm.

The Garden of Eden may not your typical bar, but it’s a very peaceful nightlife spot in the middle of Bucharest. Surrounded by more trees and green you’d expect to find in such an urban location. The tables are scattered throughout the entire space, allow more or less privacy, depending on what you want.

Gradina Eden Bar in Bucharest

This is a self-service place. You have to go to the bar to order, pay and then bring back the drink to the table. The prices seemed a little high to me, but I guess we all deserve a treat once in a while. It is one of the most relaxing bars I’ve ever visited in Bucharest.

Address:  Calea Dorobanți 44-46, Bucharest, Romania. The garden is open Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm to midnight and on Weekends from noon to midnight.

OXYA by Bamboo is one of the finest clubs in the nightlife scene of Bucharest. The ideal destination for a glamorous night out. It’s original style, extravagant architecture, great music and sophisticated decor made Bamboo one of hippest clubs in South Eastern Europe.

Bamboo Club

Bamboo is not only a lounge bar and a club, but also a restaurant with live music and dance shows. A wonderful place to dance your shoes off until the early hours of the morning on Fridays and Saturdays!

Address : Strada Caroteni 13, Bucharest, Romania. Currently the club is open only on Saturday nights, between 4:00 pm and 10:00 p m.

One of the best event venues in Bucharest where the most amazing parties take place is Fratelli Club. The tunnel-shaped club is certainly an intimate setting for a great night out, and they play some of the best EDM to be found anywhere in Bucharest.

The vibe is electric and sexy with bartenders showing off their skills by juggling bottles in the air, setting drinks on fire or building pyramids of glasses to make the drink cascade.

Fratelli Club

Pro Tip: Be mindful on how you dress. They have the habit of not allowing into the club people who are not dressed up to their standards, which are pretty high.

Address : Strada Glodeni 1-3, Bucharest, Romania. The club is open only on Fridays and Saturdays, between 11:30 pm and 4:00 am .

This is a trendy place to have drinks and dance if you are in the mood. To me it looks more like a mix of a bar, social club and restaurant, all in one place. Control Club used to only function as a nightclub which opened at midnight. but now it opens just a little after noon. During the daytime it’s a pub.

There is a very nice outside patio with a bar for chatting and smoking. Inside there are two areas: one with tables for chatting and one with DJ for dancing. The restaurant is on the upper level.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Being close to University Square, the club is a favorite night spot for the locals, especially students.

We arrived here around 9 p.m and the place completely empty so we headed to the restaurant upstairs, but that was completely full. We returned after 10:30 pm and found the party in full swing. People were pouring in and the music was really loud. We stayed for a while, but I am not a great fan of the electronic music, so we left.

Pro Tip : If you want to have dinner here you should make reservations ahead of time. Otherwise the restaurant is always full.

Address : Strada Constantin Mille 4, Bucharest, Romania. The club is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 am and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6:00 am.

Player Club remains is one of the most popular night spots in Bucharest: great music, sexy dancers and great DJs, all immersed in an exclusive setting. On the night we went there the atmosphere was crazy, with a good vibe and a dazzling light show.

Player Club

The club is partly inside and partly outside, with a pool in the middle. The atmosphere seems more relaxed than in other nightclubs, especially during the summer months, when the pool is open.

In summer, when Bucharest melts in heat, Player Club is also a favorite for place families with children, who come here to escape the heat.

Address : Montreal Square, București 011469, RomaniaCurrently the club is open only on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Romanians love to party and the culture of going out is part of their daily social lives. Unlike here in the US, where people find meaning and fulfillment in their families, hobbies, pets, or being outdoors, in Romania people love to chat with friends over a cup of coffee or a drink, either after work or on weekends. That explains in a way the abundance of pubs, bars in clubs in Bucharest and the crowds that are always present there.

Going out at night is one of the most fun things to do in Bucharest . But before you head out to experience the city’s party scene, there are a few things you should know:

• Bucharest nightlife starts pretty late. While bars and restaurants are already crowded by 9 pm, the club partying starts at around midnight and goes on until dawn. • Most nightclubs charge an entrance fee that usually covers a drink. Others have a free-entry policy for girls. However, entrance fees and drinks are fairly cheap in Bucharest, compared to those in the West. • If you have a specific place in mind and you are in a larger group, it’s best to always book a table in advance. The more popular spots to go out in Bucharest are always crowded, especially on weekends. • Ideally, you should go drinking and dancing with a local, but if you don’t know any folks in Bucharest, stick to the historic center, which is the safest place for tourists. Or you can also choose to book a tour of the local pubs or clubs.

And while you are out and about, make it a point to check out one of the many f ancy restaurants in Bucharest where you will dine like royalty. You can find lots of quality places to try out the traditional Romanian cuisine for relatively low prices.

Tell us of the spa parties?

Not much to tell. You have to join one to experience it. They have such parties all summer long in Bucharest.

July 14, 2021 at 7:53 am

Wow! Bucharest surely has some interesting nightlife. I quite liked the list of clubs you mentioned, especially Grādina Eden. The Bamboo Club looks and sounds interesting as well. Whenever I am in Bucharest, I would love to explore at least a few of these places.

Bucharest has been on my list for a long time now and I hope to visit it before my Europe permit expires. Good to know that the city has such an incredible. Nomad sky bar is perhaps the place I’d venture first for eating, drinking and dancing. Bordello sounds super interesting too, so it would be a hard choice.

July 14, 2021 at 11:11 am

Well, rather than choosing you could visit them both.

Your comment about while other people find meaning in family, Romanians prefer cocktails. 🙂 I’ve been to Bucharest, but this is a whole different side of Bucharest than what I experienced. And now I know why… because it doesn’t get into full swing until after midnight! That’s a whole other adventure in itself. Thanks for doing all the “hard work” of checking out these hot spots! It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta drink it!

July 13, 2021 at 7:55 pm

Barbara, I think you misunderstood what you read: I actually said that while other people find meaning in spending time with their families, Romanians prefer socializing with other people. Yes, they also like “cocktails” but not to the point of preferring those over family, lol!

July 12, 2021 at 3:29 pm

I’m all about the rooftop cocktails! First, it’s the perfect way to see the city you are visiting and secondly it’s perfect for a summer evening! I love seeing the different vibes these bars offer. So many options.

July 12, 2021 at 12:19 pm

This is good to know that Bucharest has a vibrant nightlife and there are many venues to have a fab evening. The Nomad Skybar looks perfect. Exactly my type. Love their motto!

July 12, 2021 at 1:09 am

I did not know Bucharest is so bustling with life, has so many great clubs and bars serving delicious cocktails. I would love to visit some of these. I would like to see Centrul Vechi by night and streets around Lipscani. I love rooftop bars, so I add Interbelic Cocktail Bar to my list for sure. I would love to visit Bordello with these amazing photographs on the walls.

July 11, 2021 at 6:26 am

This must be a sign. This is the 2nd article on Bucharest I am reading today. I guess you have pretty much covered the place as to what to do in the evenings 🙂 . We have never been there so this would be useful for planning. Thanks.

July 11, 2021 at 1:38 pm

Well, may this will determine you to go see Bucharest, Vasu.

July 10, 2021 at 6:16 pm

I was in Bucharest a few years ago, in the Old town. I wish I had known about these bars and clubs as I love night life in a place. As I was traveling alone, I was a little hesitant exploring some of the places in the old town. But I would have loved to have gone to some of these amazing bars especially with live music.

July 10, 2021 at 9:35 pm

It’s more difficult to go to a club if you are traveling alone. However, Romanians are very friendly so I’m sure you would have had a lot of fun.

I don’t have any connection with these bars and clubs, Lou. I just visited them.

On the travel wish list! Would love to visit Bucharest. We are not ones for seeking out the nightlife in a new spot – and even worse when the nightlife starts late. But fun to see the variety of options there are in this former communist country. Although a romantic rooftop spot with great views might tempt me out. And if the prices are reasonable like the Interbelic Cocktail Bar, that is a bonus. We would certainly want to visit the Bordello if only to imagine life in another era!

July 3, 2021 at 12:42 am

Very interesting article, I’d love to see some of these bars. I want to enjoy my life … Thanks for sharing

When I’m planning a night out on the town, I always make sure to do my research beforehand. This might sound a bit tedious, but trust me, it’s worth it. There’s nothing worse than showing up to a club or bar that turns out to be a dud. So, how do I go about researching the different establishments in my city? Well, the first thing I do is Google. I’ll search for “best clubs in [city name]” or “top bars in [city name]” and see what pops up. From there, I’ll read reviews on sites like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google Reviews. I pay attention to both the positive and negative reviews to get a well-rounded idea of what to expect. Another thing I do is ask around. I’ll ask friends who have been out in the area recently if they have any recommendations. I find that personal recommendations are often the most trustworthy. Some things I look for when researching clubs and bars include the music genre, dress code, and drink prices. I also pay attention to whether the establishment is known for being rowdy or chill, and whether it gets super crowded on the weekends. Overall, taking the time to research different clubs and bars in my city has saved me from many disappointing nights out. I highly recommend doing some research before you go out, it’ll make your night so much more enjoyable.

If you’re planning a trip to Bucharest, Romania, then you need to make sure you dress to impress! The city is known for its vibrant nightlife, which means that you should put together an outfit that will make you look great and ready to take on the night. When it comes to finding the perfect outfit for a night out in Bucharest, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you want to be stylish and fashionable, but you also want to make sure you’re comfortable. Choose an outfit that is flattering to your body shape and don’t forget to accessorize. Jewellery, scarves, and even hats can add a touch of sophistication and style. Remember that Bucharest is a cosmopolitan city, so you’ll want to dress accordingly. Think of classic pieces like a blazer or a shift dress. A nice pair of heels can also take an outfit to the next level. If you’re looking for something a little more laid-back, don’t worry. You can still find great styles that will make you look stylish and comfortable at the same time. Look for items that are made of light-weight fabrics, like linen or cotton. They’re perfect for a night out in Bucharest. No matter what kind of outfit you choose, make sure you dress to impress. This is a city that loves to party, so you want to make sure you look your best! With the right outfit, you’ll be ready to take on the night in style.

When it comes to going out in Bucharest, having a plan is crucial. I’ve learned this the hard way after too many nights of wandering around aimlessly, trying to decide where to go and what to do . But with a little bit of preparation, you can ensure that you have the best night possible. Firstly, think about what you want to do. Are you in the mood for dancing? Drinking? Eating? Once you have a general idea of what you’re looking for, you can start researching the best places to go. This might mean checking out online reviews or asking friends for recommendations. Next, make sure you know how you’re going to get around. Bucharest is a big city, and you don’t want to waste your night figuring out transportation. Whether you’re taking a taxi or using public transit, make sure you know the best options for getting from place to place. Finally, be realistic about your budget. Going out can be expensive, and you don’t want to run out of money halfway through the night. Set a budget for yourself and stick to it. You’ll be glad you did when you’re not stressing about your finances later. Having a plan might sound like a chore, but it will actually make your night more enjoyable. You’ll have a clear idea of where you’re going and what you’re doing, which means less stress and more fun. So take a few minutes to plan ahead, and you’ll have a great night out in Bucharest!

Travelling is one of the most exciting experiences, especially when exploring new places. But as much as we all love travelling, it can be pretty unsafe in some cases. That’s why the buying guide tip for today is about staying safe while travelling. I’ve travelled solo before, and it can be unsettling, especially at night in an unknown city. I’d always be worried about my safety, and the streets could seem like a dark, lonely place. Whilst Bucharest is a pretty safe city, travelling with a group of friends can make a huge difference. When you travel in a group, you have eyes and ears all around you, making the experience safer and more enjoyable. You can talk, laugh, and share moments with people you trust. It’s always much better to have someone by your side in case anything goes wrong. Another important tip to keep in mind is to avoid walking alone at night. Sometimes, it’s just not safe, especially if you are in an unfamiliar place. Take an Uber rather than a taxi, or grab a ride from a trusted friend. If you have no choice but to walk, try and stick to well-lit areas and avoid shortcuts through deserted alleys. All in all, travelling can be a perfect experience if we prioritize our safety. Travelling in a group reduces our risk of danger and makes it more fun. It helps us create unforgettable moments with our friends while making sure we arrive at our destinations safely. So remember, be safe, and travel with care.

The Ultimate Guide to The Bucharest Nightlife Scene

Seriously, one of our favourite things to experience is the Bucharest nightlife because party time in Bucharest is where the city comes alive.

As one of the lesser travelled Eastern European countries, Romania holds a special little place that you can come to party harder and party for less.

Looking for the best Bucharest nightlife guide? We have you covered for everything happening with the nightlife in Bucharest.

While we can spend entire days at the stunning Cărturești Carusel , the nighttime is when Old Town comes alive for us.

The ultimate guide to Bucharest Nightlife from an insider. The guide covers where to go, what to do, and what to wear to get the full Bucharest nightlife experience. #Bucharest #Romania #nightlife @Oldtown

It also means that girls in Bucharest can celebrate special occasions cheaper than going to its neighboring countries. We found really cheap London to Bucharest flights and jumped at the chance to spend the weekend with girlfriends, but a great place to travel solo as well.

Is Bucharest Safe? Absolutely. That shouldn’t even a question that you’re asking.

If this is your first time heading to the Romanian capital, allow us to pull together a quick Bucharest nightlife guide to make your time there a lot enjoyable.

WHERE TO STAY:

Our vote will always be to stay close to the Old Town. There are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance.

Looking for the best Bucharest nightlife guide? We have you covered for everything happening with the nightlife in Bucharest

WHAT TIME TO GO OUT:

Romanians don’t have the same drinking culture that Britain or America has but they party hard and they will party all night. Most bars and clubs don’t kick off until around midnight or in the big clubs even later and a lot of them have the “last one standing” policy, where they will basically stay open until the last person has danced themselves to bed. This makes Bucharest at night a completely different experience than most other cities.

Having explored a lot of nightlife destinations, we have to say that the Bucharest nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe. Check our our insider guide to where to stay, what to do, and what to wear for a night out in Old town Bucharest, and where you'll find some of the best bars in Bucharest. #Romania #Nightlife #Bucharest

WHERE TO START YOUR NIGHT:

I believe if you can go somewhere that serves beer by the metre and sells spirits and a mixer for approximately a euro, this should be your go to bar at start of the night.  Our vote will always go to Octoberfest in Old Town.

Having a wander around Old Town if you don’t have a pre-planned night out is your best bet, listen out for the wafts of music being played and pick a bar based on your musical tastes.   Don’t be alarmed if, sometime during your dance-off in the middle of the club, you get covered in toilet paper; this is the Bucharest version of throwing confetti or dropping balloons.

Bound and vintage are both very popular clubs with students, they play a good range of latest hits and usually get pretty crowded, Bound has its own sax player who plays along with the DJ and there are usually some Romanian celebrities hanging around in these clubs. If you do want to dance in here buying a bottle of spirit will guarantee you a table for the whole night so at least you have somewhere to keep your coats and bags.

BEST BARS IN OLD TOWN BUCHAREST

We know that narrowing the best bars in Old Town Bucharest can be a challenge since there is something for everyone there. Nevertheless, we’ve done our best to narrow the ones we love.

A fun place for a few drinks, go early as it is small and gets very crowded they mix fun shots for boys, girls, couples and groups.   Their shots are very creative and some even include sweeties.

BAMBOO, CHABOO and FRATELLI

If you’re looking for something a little more high-end and classy, and you want to wear heels and not run the risk of falling over on the cobbles in Old Town, there are a number of clubs that offer a slightly more fancy night out.   With this fanciness comes fancy prices, but it’s still very affordable.

Certain clubs like Bamboo, Chaboo and Fratellis are packed with the young, well-off, business crowd who know exactly what they want and how to party. No wonder they are considered some of the best clubs in Bucharest.    These places are mostly fun if you have a crowd and book a table with a bottle service.

They usually tell you to turn up by 12 but nothing really gets started until 1 or 2am. These clubs put on light shows and have professional dancers and impromptu concerts every night.   If you’re lucky enough to be in Bucharest during the summer the big clubs also hold pool parties during the day.

HERESTRAU PARK

For a more chilled time the bars and restaurants around Herestrau Park are a little more relaxed, better for chilling with a cocktail.   The music does get more ‘dancey’ as the night goes on but this happens very gradually and they don’t mind if you stake the place out all night just for a few laid-back drinks.

MOJOS + FIRE CLUB

There are a number of pubs within Old Town if you are looking for more of a casual beer, Mojos and Fire club offer a friendly vibe and are the best places to watch big sporting events.   Fire club stays as a bar/restaurant all night while Mojos offers Karaoke in its upstairs bar after 9pm every night.   Both bars are usually crawling with expats if you want to hear an English accent during your stay.

You cannot walk down any street in Bucharest without stumbling across some kind of drinking establishment so regardless of what you are looking for from a night out, hardcore partying, karaoke, dancing, a chilled-out drink; you will find it in Bucharest and probably for cheaper than you would find it in most of the rest of Europe.

OCTOBERFEST

Octoberfest is the name of this little piece of drunken heaven, packed with students and older people alike this is one of the spots where nobody judges you if you order 30 Jager shots between two (yes, this is from first-hand experience) and you will likely meet the friends you will hang out with for the rest of the night.

Octoberfest is located smack bang in the middle of Old Town- Bucharest’s nightlife area, this is the hub of bars and restaurants in Bucharest, you can’t walk more than 3 steps without coming across a new bar or club and although there are promoters on the street that will get you good deals in the bars they aren’t annoying and will take no for an answer.

If you do enjoy a bit of banter with club promoters the more people you bring into the bar, the more discount you can usually negotiate with them.

BUCHAREST NIGHTLIFE TIPS:

  • Comfortable Shoes are a Must: When exploring the lively bars of Old Town, don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes. The charming cobblestone alleys can be tricky to navigate, especially after a few drinks. Avoid the risk of twisted ankles and enjoy your night to the fullest.
  • Opt for Uber or Nearby Accommodation: To make your nightlife experience hassle-free, consider using Uber for convenient transportation or choose accommodation near the vibrant areas. This way, you can avoid any potential issues with traditional taxis and ensure a smooth journey to and from your destinations.
  • Cash is King: While credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Bucharest, it’s generally easier to pay with cash, especially in smaller establishments. Make sure to have some local currency on hand to streamline your transactions and avoid any inconvenience.
  • Indulge in Local Eats: Before hitting the bars, satisfy your hunger with a delicious meal at one of the many cheap local eateries scattered throughout Old Town. From mouthwatering shawarmas to other traditional delights, Bucharest offers a variety of flavors to suit your palate.
  • Embrace Unique Experiences: Step out of your comfort zone and try something different during your Bucharest nightlife adventure. Explore the city’s karaoke bars, where you can unleash your inner diva and sing your heart out until the early hours. It’s a surefire way to create unforgettable memories with friends.

The Ultimate Nightlife Guide to Bucharest

Bucharest nightlife

Bucharest is slowly gaining a reputation as one of the indisputable party capitals of Eastern Europe. Read our guide on the city’s best bars and clubs, including alternative music venues, in order to make the best of the time between the first cocktail and the end of your night in the Romanian capital.

Fix me a drink.

Start off your evening at Fix me a drink where their expert bartenders will fix you one or more of their signature cocktails, containing fresh herbs such as lovage, sorrel, parsley shrub, or even young walnuts. Located in one of the most emblematic buildings in the centre of Bucharest, the newly renovated creative hub Palatul Universul, it attracts the hippest crowds with its fresh, retro industrial design.

Palatul Universul, Strada Actor Ion Brezoianu 23-25, Bucharest, Romania , +40 771 707 869

For more fabulous cocktails, head a few doors down, to Energiea , hosted in a former printing shop that still faithfully preserves the spirit of the 1920s. If popping by on a weekday, you might chance upon a common fixture in Bucharest bars, the Vinyl, Rum, Tapas & Wine nights, which does just what it says on the label: shortens the distance between good music, people, and great drinks. Owners of great vinyl collections are warmly invited to bring their own!

Strada Actor Ion Brezoianu 4, Bucharest, Romania , +40 736 374 432

Control Club

The terrace of Control Club might just be the best place in Bucharest to mingle with the locals and let conversations spark while queuing for a drink. Also, this is where you will stumble upon a fork in the road. Eventually, someone is bound to gather their pack and head to the Old Centre . Electronic music lovers can head for one of the venue’s two rooms and stay assured that, despite being the epicentre of Bucharest’s nightlife, the Old Centre has got nothing on it.

Strada Constantin Mille 4, Bucharest, Romania , +40 733 927 861

The Old Centre

When it comes to instant gratification, nothing beats the Old Centre. This maze of cobbled streets with old façades gathered around Lipscani Street is the surefire place to go for a boozy night of dancing until dawn. Your night could very well start and end here to the beats of the latest hits, without having walked more than one kilometer. Cool off between dancing sessions with one of their spectacular moonshine-based cocktails at Nomad Skybar , and head to Pura Vida SkyBar to see the sun rise above Bucharest for one last drink.

Bucharest’s Old Centre, Bucharest, Romania

Perched on a hill, across the river from the Old Centre and nearby one of Bucharest’s most beautiful parks, Expirat will suit almost all tastes. One of the latest additions to the Bucharest club scene, Expirat has its origins in the Black Sea terrace playing alternative music under the slogan “organised madness.” Today, the madness is even better organized, and draws a more mature crowd of young professionals. Located in a beautifully refurbished industrial hall of the historic Hesper Factory, it features a terrace that is always lively.

Strada Doctor Constantin Istrati 1, Bucharest, Romania , +40 733 974 728

E3 by Entourage

Alternatively, for a night of glamorous fun, start off early at E3 by Entourage in the upscale neighbourhood of Floreasca, north of Bucharest. Their cocktails are legendary, while the bar itself is the best place to go to see and be seen.

Calea Floreasca 111-113, Bucharest, Romania , +40 734 966 889

Also located on the northern route, Biutiful by the Lake is a great spot to kick off an evening of fun. Their cocktails are fabulous, and nothing beats their view on the Herăstrău Lake, particularly on a hot summer night.

7-9 Nordului Street, Bucharest, Romania

Conveniently located in the upscale area of Dorobanți, bordering Floreasca, Loft is the cool new kid on the block. Without eclipsing the more established venues, Loft is all the rage right now, attracting those who’ve become jaded with all other offerings.

Metropolis Center, Corp A, Parter, Strada Grigore Alexandrescu 89-97, Bucharest, Romania , +40 756 385 638

Gaia Boutique Club

This is the place where you can share your weird with the rest of Bucharest. Located in the north of the city, in a heavy Stalinist building that used to host the Communist party’s newspaper, Gaia Boutique Club regularly hosts theme parties, so put on that wacky outfit and go as crazy as you dare.

Piața Presei Libere 1, Bucharest, Romania , +40 723 610 933

Fratelli Social Club

One of the oldest and most well-known clubs in Bucharest, Fratelli is an institution of Bucharest nightlife. Recently awarded by The World’s Finest Clubs, it is a must for those who want to taste the extravagance of Bucharest nightlife. Put on your best outfit for this one, as everything here is over the top. And do reserve a table, as this is customary for a night of fun.

Nuba Restaurant

Got an ear worm? Nuba Restaurant, an Asian restaurant with Peruvian influences that turns into a club at night will make sure you get to dance on it live. If it plays on your favourite radio, you’ll hear it here soon enough. Alternatively, its summertime sidekick Nuba Summer Vibes , on the shore of Herăstrău Park will provide a breezier alternative.

Bucharest Nightlife: Where to Eat, Drink, and Dance in the Capital

Bucharest, the vibrant capital of Romania, comes alive after dark with its energetic nightlife scene. From trendy bars and nightclubs to cozy restaurants and live music venues, the city offers a diverse range of experiences for night owls. In this blog, we will guide you through Bucharest’s exciting nightlife, highlighting the best places to eat, drink, and dance, ensuring you have an unforgettable evening in the city.

Old Town (Lipscani)

Begin your Bucharest nightlife adventure in the heart of the city’s Old Town, known as Lipscani. This bustling area is a hub of activity, offering a plethora of bars, pubs, and clubs to suit every taste. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming narrow streets and soak in the lively atmosphere. Stop by a cozy restaurant to indulge in traditional Romanian cuisine before heading to a vibrant bar or club to enjoy live music or dance the night away.

Strada Franceza

For a more upscale and sophisticated nightlife experience, head to Strada Franceza. This elegant street in the historic center is lined with trendy restaurants, chic wine bars, and stylish lounges. Enjoy a delectable dinner at one of the fine dining establishments, sample local wines at a wine bar, or sip on handcrafted cocktails in a fashionable lounge. Strada Franceza offers a more refined ambiance for those seeking a sophisticated night out.

Experiencing Live Music

Bucharest boasts a thriving live music scene, with numerous venues that cater to various musical tastes. If you’re a fan of jazz, make sure to visit Green Hours 22, a legendary jazz club known for its intimate setting and exceptional performances. Control Club is a popular choice for alternative music lovers, hosting live concerts and DJ sets. For a mix of genres and a vibrant atmosphere, check out Hard Rock Cafe Bucharest, which frequently features live bands.

Rooftop Bars with a View

Experience Bucharest’s nightlife from new heights by visiting one of its rooftop bars. Pura Vida Sky Bar, located in the historic Lipscani district, offers panoramic views of the city’s skyline and serves an array of creative cocktails. Upstairs Rooftop is another popular choice, providing a stunning setting for drinks, with its modern decor and a terrace offering breathtaking views of Bucharest. Enjoy the city lights and a vibrant atmosphere while sipping on your favorite beverage.

Clubbing in Bucharest

When it comes to clubbing, Bucharest offers an exciting array of options. Control Club, mentioned earlier for its live music, also transforms into a lively club scene with DJ sets playing a mix of electronic and alternative music. For a more mainstream clubbing experience, Fratelli Social Club is a popular choice, featuring internationally renowned DJs and a vibrant atmosphere. Other notable clubs include Bamboo and Player Club, known for their energetic parties that last until the early morning hours.

Bucharest’s nightlife is an exhilarating experience that caters to all tastes and preferences. Whether you prefer cozy wine bars, live music venues, rooftop bars with stunning views, or high-energy clubs, the city has something for everyone. Start your night in the vibrant Old Town or indulge in a more sophisticated atmosphere on Strada Franceza. Experience the city’s live music scene, enjoy breathtaking views from rooftop bars, and dance the night away in popular clubs. Bucharest’s nightlife promises unforgettable memories and a taste of the city’s energetic spirit long after the sun goes down.

Bucharest Nightlife: An Essential Guide

By: Author Stefania Guglielmi

Posted on Last updated: April 11, 2023

Categories Romania

Bucharest, the Romanian capital, offers a lot, a lot more than most tourists expect. In fact, many people totally skip it on their Balkan road trips or their trip around Romania  and they shouldn’t. Bucharest offers a lot for history and culure lovers, for foodies…. and for partiers.

I had a fantastic time in the city during the #ExperienceBucharest trip, and oh boy, did we party! A whole lot! One of the reasons to visit Bucharest is definitely its lively and super fun nightlife.

I didn’t try all of these places myself (yet!), but I reached out to some locals and asked what their favorite place was. Check out this guide to the best places to experience the infamous Bucharest Nightlife.

Table of Contents

Where to Start the Night in Bucharest

Pura vida sky bar.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Image by Pura Vida Sky Bar

The amazing views over the bronze roofs are worth the 4 floors of stairs… and it’s good exercise!  Pura Vida Sky Bar is the only rooftop bar in Bucharest, and there’s no better place to be when the weather is nice. Located on teh rooftop of Pura Vida hostel, it0s a great place to meet otehr travlers from all over the place.

I’ve listed this rooftop as a place to start the night, but honestly you could also spend your whole night here with friends. It’s that much fun.

Pura Vida Sky Bar (7 Smârdan Street) is open 7 days a week.

Start the night with some amazing food (check out this great guide for where to eat in Bucharest ), but then what is bteer than a couple of shots before you go dancing? Nothing, right? At Shoteria , expect a very small location, but size doesn’t matter, does it? There are no tables as this is really a place for a quickie. You come in, have a few shots, and keep going to your next destination. It’s cheap, crowded, and fun: what else do you want from a shot place?

Shoteria (Strada Șelari 17) is open Thursday-Saturday from 9pm to 5am.

Dance on the streets

bucharest tourism nightlife

Ok, this one is a bit different but equally awesome… if not more. Pura Vida Tan Tan organizes a night of dancing in the streets of Bucharest every Saturday in the main square of the Old Town, and to me this is one of the best things to do in Bucharest during the summer.

Join for a night of Reggaeton, Salsa, Hip Hop…There is a dance crew that shows the steps to the crowd, but you can also do your own thing. Such a happy and fun initiative! Really hoping they’ll replicate it every summer.

The Best Bars in Bucharest

Fix me a drink.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Image by Fix Me A Drink

A bar with a difference, Fix Me A Drink labels itself as a “botanical bar”. Here, you can drink surrounded by a whole host of potted plants, making for a unique drinking experience in a spacious, airy venue that still feels warm and welcoming.

Their minimalist feel masks the complexity of the cocktails on offer, and there are plenty of hidden treasures to try as you work your way through their menu!

Fix Me A Drink (Strada Ion Brezoianu 23-25, Universul, building B, floor 1, FIX, botanical bar) is open Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm-12am, Thursday and Friday 5pm-2am, Saturday 7pm-12am and Sunday 3pm-12am.

The Urbanist

bucharest tourism nightlife

A favorite haunt of Bucharest’s hipster population, you might think you’ve walked into the wrong place when you enter The Urbanist . A bar selling trainers and jeans as well as drinks?! Well, it’s true- this relaxed, intimate venue is a great place to kick off a night out before moving on to one of the bigger clubs.

They sell a great selection of cocktails here, and in the day they also sell coffees and pastries if you want to take a break from exploring the Old Town.

The Urbanist is open 7 days a week from 8.30am to 10.30pm.

For many years, Interbelic was one of Bucharest’s best-kept secrets. They have since moved to a larger venue, but that friendly, laid-back, family feel still remains in this trendy cocktail bar. Traditional Romanian décor and a menu full of local cuisine make this place a must if you want an authentic experience of Bucharest during your time here.

It gets pretty busy at the weekends, but during the week it’s a great place to enjoy cocktails and a chat with friends.

Interbelic (Calea Victoriei 17) is open 7 days a week from 5pm to 2am, and until 6am on Friday and Saturday.

Bucharest By Night on a Budget

Kulturhaus bukarest.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Image by Inma Gregorio, A World To Travel

Looking for cheap drinks in Bucharest? Well, Kulturhaus Bukarest has some of the lowest prices in town- but that’s not the only reason to stick around. With three floors, there’s plenty of space to dance without feeling like you’re crushed in by other partygoers, and it means there’s always a great selection of music to bop along to… and it’s easy to get lost, trust me! 😀

It’s nothing too fancy, but if you are just looking for a great time, then Kulturhaus Bukarest is well worth a visit. One of my favorite places in town!

Kulturhaus Bukarest (Strada Sfânta Vineri 4) is open Thursday-Saturday from 11pm to 6am.

Expirat Club

Originally founded as an alternative music venue, Expirat has since grown to become one of the best-loved underground clubs in Bucharest. They are especially known for mashing up multiple genres of music, so you never know quite what you’re going to discover on a night out here.

They recently moved to a new location, where their killer lightshows and both indoor and outdoor shows make it the cream of the crop when it comes to the Bucharest underground scene.

Expirat Club (Strada Doctor Constantin Istrati 1) is open 7 days a week until 5am.

Live Music Spots in Bucharest

Control club.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Not the biggest venue around, but that just means Control Club is a great place to get up close and personal with some of your favorite electronic artists. Control bring in some of the biggest names in music to play their club, and there’s always a great atmosphere here. They also put on some of the city’s biggest gay nights, which are really not to be missed.

But I listed it here because Control Club also does amazing concerts and live music events, so keep an eye on their schedule for a night to be remembered.

Control Club (Strada Constantin Mille 4) is open 7 days a week until 6am on Friday and Saturday, 5am on Tuesday-Thursday, 4am on Sunday and Monday.

Bringing some British spirit to the Bucharest nightlife scene, Mojo puts on some great live music, as well as giving you a place to catch all the biggest sporting action. If you’re in the mood for a friendly, sports-bar feel, then Mojo is the place for you.

Down in the basement, meanwhile, is a club that plays host to some great covers bands. There’s even a whole floor dedicated to karaoke, open every night of the week- so stop by and show everyone what you’ve got!

Mojo (Strada Gabroveni 14) is open 7 days a week from 1pm to 3am, until 5am on Friday and Saturday.

The Best Clubs in Bucharest

Player club.

bucharest tourism nightlife

When Bucharest’s hip young things hit the town, there’s one place in particular that they flock to: the Player Club . My lovely local guides me here on my first night in town, and I must say I was impressed.

A dazzling light show ensures that the party is always rocking, but it’s during the summer months that the place really comes alive. That’s because the Player Club has its own private pool, meaning when the temperature rises, it’s time for spectacular pool parties that truly have to be seen to be believed. Let the champagne flow!

Player Club (Montreal Square) is open only on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 11pm and 6am.

Fratelli is a little pricier than some of the other clubs in Bucharest, but once you’re inside, you’ll instantly realize why. Fratelli brings to mind the golden era of clubs, when DJs ruled the world, and thousands of clubbers would come together for an unforgettable communal experience.

There are always great events going on here, and the fact that they regularly switch up the scenery means you’ll never have the same experience twice. A must for any serious clubber who finds themselves in Bucharest!

Fratelli (Strada Glodeni) is open only on Friday and Saturday between 11.30pm and 4am.

From the outside, the old Stirbei Palace looks like a museum. However, at the weekends the basement is transformed into the very definition of an underground club. The tunnel-shaped club is certainly an intimate setting for many great nights out, and they play some of the best EDM to be found anywhere in Bucharest. The locals also call it Hipster’s Mecca, and it’s easy to see why.

Add in the fact that it’s one of the city’s few explicitly gay-friendly clubs, and it’s easy to see why the Eden Club is one of the hottest nightspots in town. It’s not unusual for parties to run from midnight well into the following day!

Check out the Eden Club Facebook page  to check out the opening times (Palatul Știrbei, Calea Victoriei 107).

House Music Clubs

Kristal glam club.

bucharest tourism nightlife

Kristal certainly lives up to its name- a huge crystal chandelier hangs over the main dancefloor, and there’s glitz and glamor everywhere you look. They’ve also got a killer audio/visual setup, which screens everywhere you look showing awesome visuals to really get you in the party mood.

Kristal has been a fixture of the Bucharest scene for 15 years, and that’s because they sure know how to party.

Kristal Glam Club (Bulevardul Regina Elisabeta 34) is open only on Friday and Saturday between 11pm and 6am.

Studio Martin

Party the night away in this mini-sized club right in the heart of Bucharest. Cocktails are the order of the day at Studio Martin , and since the capacity here is only a couple of hundred people, it’s a great choice for clubbers who don’t like big crowds. Dance under the futuristic lightshow, and enjoy a wild night at this little-known gem.

Studio Martin (Bulevardul Iancu de Hunedoara 61) is open 7 days a week, 9pm until 11am Monday through Saturday, 9pm until midnight on Sundays.

Convinced that Bucharest is the place to be? Get here asap and experience the Bucharest nightlife!

Try the Local Cuisine

Bucharest nightlife is vibrant, bustling, and a little bit noisy but that is what makes it so special. The Romanian capital has hidden cafes with exquisite Romanian food and secret architectural treasures you can explore. The restaurants are sometimes located in lavish hotels while others are just quaint little kiosks where you can get the local street food.

Lente is a unique eatery that looks more like a fancy living room or dining room than a restaurant. The laid-back feel of the place and the cozy charm give you the feeling that you are having dinner at a friend or family's house. They even have over 100 board games for you to play if you wish. And the food is exquisite and unique.

If you are looking for a thick juicy steak or handmade burger and fries, Vacamuuu is for you. They have Black Angus, Wagyu Beef, and vacuum-packed aged beef, veal, and pork chops. One of their specialties is Lamb of the Rock, which is a rack of lamb chops cooked however you like.

Drink a Beer at an Old Town Club or Pub

Old Town Bucharest is full of exciting clubs and pubs whether you want to chill out and have a beer or if you want to dance the night away. Many of these places in Old Town are small and charming but others are a bit larger and geared towards young people.

Within walking distance, right across the street from the historic Stavropoleos Monastery Church in Old Town, Bucharest, the Times Cocktail Bar is a local favorite. The music is always pumping whether it is a DJ or a live band and the atmosphere is cozy and friendly. The interior is beautiful with vividly colored lights and eclectic furniture. And the staff is great too.

Little Bucharest

Located in the heart of Old Town Bucharest, this hostel is not just a place to stay in the city, it is a sensational lounge with live entertainment, delicious and creative cocktails, delicious Romanian cuisine, and local craft beers. The place is casual and the vibe is fun and full of young adults from all over the world. Little Bucharest is definitely worth a visit.

The Urbanist

There is no place in the United States where you can go to get a drink as well as a tattoo, haircut, and new wardrobe but you can do it in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. The Urbanist is a relaxed place where you can have a beer or cocktail while you shop and they even do tattoos and haircuts. They also have great food. In fact, this is exactly what most young people are doing at night in Old Town Bucharest, Romania.
