Our favourite sites were Fontana Pretoria (fountain) and nearby Chiesa Santa Caterina- the church is beautiful. Other than that we just enjoyed plenty of street food and Sicilian restaurants.

Explore Southern Sicily

Sometimes I thought the walking pace was too fast considering of the 12 more than half were over the age of 60 or overweight. Our guide Rosanna either wasn't listening to us, or a bit of an authoritarian personality, so she took any light criticism personally. She wasn't as knowledgeable as I hoped.

Sicilian Secrets - Tour of Sicily 6 days 2024

We enjoyed our tour in Sicily. Guide Irena and driver kept us informed and safe. The evening meal in Ragusa 14 / 5 we considered very ordinary. The second day [ day 3 ] from Ragusa to Agrigento was a very long day and perhaps some of the sights and visits could have been shortened so we didnt arrive at 7.30pm - 11 hours in the bus in total. Apart from those issues we thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Sicily with Sicilian Secrets.

The trip was well organized. The guide - Placido certainly knew his subjects and was very happy to answer questions. The accomodation was all very good as were the breakfasts. .The group was large and I didn't realise that when I booked. Our guide, Placido, was excellent... very knowledgable, cheerful and professional. The hotels and food were good, and our group - mostly a mix of US and Italians - were very friendly. The tour very 'full on' - with a definite timetable in order to see so much in a week. I think we could have a bit more about the history of the towns as well as all the cathedrals.

The cooking class and our Palermo Street Food tour was, probably my favorites. A few areas that could have been improved upon: - A little more communication prior to the tour would have been reassuring. In this day of fraud it is a little unnerving to send all that money into the internet and not get much of a response. - The final communication, our itinerary, was a definite problem. We were told by Tour Radar that we would receive it 10-14 days before we left. The tour operator (ClickTours/Mossimo) told us we would receive it 8 days before we left. I finally called Tour Radar 6 days before we left

The first thing I noted about Sicily Activities was their communication. The owner, Alex and Massimo, were always available for questions and even helped us book our anniversary dinner in Taormina. We were always kept up-to-date and reminded of times for pick-up, our driver's name, and our guide's name. This was seriously appreciated since I'm always forgetting names! They know what you want in a holiday -- to eat well, relax, and maybe learn a little. The biggest thing is that I hate worrying! I'm a worrier and I never worried about a thing when in Sicily because I know they would have my back. Every single person we encountered was so nice. It didn't matter if they were moving us to a new place or taking us on a tour. We felt welcomed and appreciated. They even let our hotel know it was our anniversary, so we were left a little bottle of Prosecco. How sweet!

This tour was the very best experience we have ever had traveling overseas. The booking process was seamless and painless. We felt especially grateful that while the group was limited to 8 participants, it was guaranteed to proceed with 2 people. As it ended up, our trip was just me and my husband and we felt so fortunate to have had the attention of the guides in such a personal way. The guides were all tremendous and I am confident that a larger group would have felt equally tended to. Special thanks to our guides and drivers: Denise, Orazio, Roberto, Carlos, Fabio and Massimo. Part of what was truly evident was how passionate they each were about Sicily and how many of them had connections with people at the restaurants, local businesses and attractions that we went to. We felt like we were in such good hands during the time we were with all of the guides. Each tour and activity was enlightening and educational. The included lunches and other meals were top notch. The opening night walking food and wine tour was a great way to kickoff the trip. There were some others who joined us for that portion, and it was most welcome. I don't think it would have been as much fun for the restaurants and enoteca to have just 2 people and the guide show up, and we knew the rest of the trip we would have individual attention. We felt pampered with our lunches on the Mafia tour, at the winery on Etna, in Marzememi and Agrigento. There was never a feeling of penny-pinching, more plush and like what we would have chosen for ourselves! The selected hotels were excellent! Centrally located, each with a fantastic breakfast spread and fun bar/restaurants. We would happily go back to any of them again and recommend them. We loved the scheduling each day and felt like we had a great mix of free time to explore on our own. Lastly, Graziana was out lifeline while we were traveling. She connected with us daily to check in, and to share the next days plan and name of our guide and where they would meet us. She made dinner reservations for us while we were there and provided recommendations that were helpful. We didn't encounter any issues, but felt that we had a ready ally if needed. Massimo also checked in midtrip, so we truly felt like everyone was interested in us having the best possible trip. I cannot wait to return to Sicily. We have recommended Sicily Activities to many people since our return and would book again in a heartbeat.

How to get to Palermo from the airport to the city centre

1. How to get to Palermo by train from the airport: Trinacria Express

If you choose the train as a means of transport , there is a route, operated by Trinacria Express , that leaves directly from the Punta Raisi airport railway station .

Trinacria express train stops at: Palermo Centrale, Vespri, Palazzo Reale-Orleans, Palermo Notarbartolo, Francia, San Lorenzo Colli, Cardillo ZEN, Tommaso Natale, Isola delle Femmine, Capaci, Carini Torre, Carini, Piraineto, Punta Raisi.

The service offers two trains per hour , and the journey to Palermo Central station takes an hour, depending on which stop you prefer.

2. Bus from/to Falcone and Borsellino International airport - Punta Raisi

Firstly the bus line , managed by Prestia and Comandè company , connects the airport with the inner city. It departs every half hour and it is a comfortable and inexpensive alternative to private means of transport.

It has free Wi-Fi, wide space for your luggage, and air conditioning. In addition, the fare for an adult one-way ticket is 6.30 Є , 11 Є for a return one , and you can also buy them online if you want to save some money.

The journey time from the airport to the center is about 50 minutes . One of its stops, Piazza Ruggiero Settimo/ Via Emerico Amari , near to harbour and the hotels of the Northern area, is a good starting point to begin your tour through the city. 2) Line 102 connects Notarbartolo Station and Boiardo Square to the Central Station

3) Line 104 connects Via Duca of Verdura, the Politeama, and the Basile car park

How to get around Palermo by tram: what ticket do you need?

The tram service , which includes 4 lines , arrives at a frequency of 5, 10, and 12 minutes , and it is provided by the AMAT company . Furthermore, the tickets, valid for 90 minutes , you have bought for the bus can be used for the tram as well at the cost of  1.40 Є for a single journey , whereas the price of a daily ticket is 3.50 Є and you have to pay 23.50 Є for a carnet of 20 tickets . It is also possible to purchase the Multiday option .

Getting around Palermo by subway

Among public transport services , the Palermo Subway was activated in May 1990 for the section from Palermo Centrale to Giachery on the occasion of the World Cup to facilitate the flow of fans to the well-known Stadium of Favorita. It is a service provided by Trenitalia and it is divided into three lines, Line A, Line B, and Line C . At the moment, it does not provide extensive access to all of Palermo's tourist areas, even though it could be a valid alternative to travel if you want to follow itineraries of particular interest.

Line A stops at 15 stations :

Palermo Centrale - Guadagna/Vespri - Palazzo Reale Orleans Lolli - Palermo Notarbartolo - Francia - San Lorenzo Colli - Palermo la Malfa - Cardillo Zen - Tommaso Natale - Isola delle Femmine - Carini T. Ciachea - Carini - Piraineto - Punta Raisi

Moreover, a monthly subscription ticket costs 31.50 Є . The timetable for Line A is from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to get to the airport and 12:25 p.m. to proceed to Central Station.

Line B stops at 4 stations : Notarbartolo - Imperatore Federico - Fiera Giachery

Getting off at the Imperatore Federico stop , you can give yourself a moment of relaxation and recreation in the oriented nature reserve of the city's lush green lung.

The timetable for Line B is from 6:00 a.m. to 8:37 p.m. to get to Giachery and 9:09 p.m. to reach Notarbartolo on weekdays only. For tourists who use public transport to travel between the various areas of interest in the city, it is possible to purchase a single ticket , valid for tram, bus, and subway . It costs 5.50 Є and it's valid for the entire day .

Line C, whose routes vary in frequency from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the time slots, covers 11 stations :

Palermo Centrale - Palermo Brancaccio - Roccella - Ficarazzi - Bagheria - S. Flavia -Porticello - Casteldaccia - Altavilla Milicia - S. Nicola - Trabia - Termini Imerese.

The timetable for Line C is from 5:30 a.m. to 9:35 p.m. to get to Termini Imerese and 10:38 p.m. if you want to reach Central Station, with a reduced number of journeys on holidays.
