There are also complimentary juices available in the morning such as apple, orange, and cranberry.

Drinks purchased on the first day of the cruise will be charged to the guest’s Sail & Sign card in the usual manner.

drink packages on Carnival

Can one person get a drink package on Carnival?

Of course, it is never mandatory to buy a drink package. The drink packages on Carnival are add-ons to your cruise vacation. However, there is no sharing of the package or using your package to order drinks for other cruisers.

So, if one guest in the stateroom wishes to purchase a beverage package, each adult in the cabin that’s old enough needs to purchase one as well. Cruisers must be 21 years of age or older to purchase the Cheers program (alcoholic beverage package).

What are the drink packages on Carnival cruises?

Carnival Cruise Line offers two drink packages. There is the alcoholic drink package, also known as the Cheers! Beverage Program. There is also the unlimited soda program, called the Bottomless Bubbles package.

How many drinks do you get with the Carnival drink package?

Soda and other non-alcoholic beverages are unlimited; however, you can not consume more than 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6 AM to 6 AM). This does not just apply to the package; even if you want to buy additional drinks a la carte, you will not be permitted to within that 24 hour period.

No matter what package you choose, you can only get one drink at a time with a five minute wait time between orders. There are no double shots as that is considered ordering two drinks at once.

Carnival Cruise Line Beverage Packages

If guests purchase drinks for friends, one drink will count towards the Cheers package and the remaining drinks will be charged to the guest’s Sail and Sign account.

Of course, staff do have the right to refuse you bar service if you are intoxicated. Knowing your limits is just as important on a cruise ship as it is during your regular life!

What drinks are included in the Carnival drink packages?

When it comes to a Carnival drink package, cruisers can select from a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Below, we detail what is included in the drink packages on Carnival.

Cheers Program

Carnival Cruise Line offers only one alcoholic drink package, known as the Cheers Beverage Program. Many cruisers refer to this as the unlimited drink package, as it includes essentially all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for a flat daily rate.

The pricing of this package starts at $59.95 per person, per day (plus gratuity).

This plan covers all alcoholic beverages including beers, wine, and champagne by the glass, as well as cocktails and spirits worth up to $20. This also includes the self-serve beer stations.

Further, this Carnival drink package also includes soda, virgin cocktails, juices, specialty coffees and teas, milkshakes, energy drinks, Powerade and Vitamin Water, and 500 ml bottled water.

The Cheers Program also entitles cruisers to a 25% discount off of any drink costing more than the $20 allotment, wine and champagne by the bottle, and beverage seminars and classes.

Carnival Panorama Ship Scorecard

However, there are some exclusions to the Cheers Program. This includes beverages sold in souvenir glasses and bottles of liquor. Also, drinks sold at the gangway, through room service, or the mini-bar are also not included in this beverage package. Sharing cocktails, pitchers, tubes, and buckets are not included either.

While there is a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks with this Carnival drink package, soda and other non-alcoholic beverages do not count towards this limit.

Summary of what’s included in the Cheers drink package:

  • All spirits, cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass with a $20 or less menu price
  • Sodas, zero-proof frozen cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot tea, 500 ml bottled water, and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages
  • Packaged water in the main dining room and specialty restaurants
  • 25% discount off the menu price for any spirit or wine by the glass above $20
  • 25% discount off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle
  • 25% discount off beverage seminars and classes

Bottomless Bubbles

Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival Cruise Line’s unlimited soda package. For one flat fee, cruisers can enjoy all the fountain soda and juices they want with this package.

The pricing of this package starts at $6.95 per child (17 years of age and younger) or $9.50 per adult (plus 18% gratuity).

Like the alcoholic drink package, you can only order one drink at a time, either a 16 ounce glass of soda or a 10 ounce glass of juice. Soda choices include Pepsi products. For juices, cruisers have the option of orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit juice.

Carnival Cruise Line Beverage Packages

Again, like the Cheers Program, this package does NOT work off the ship, even at Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays. Bottled water and specialty coffee are also not part of this package. Other exclusions include beverages sold at the gangway and room services orders.

Summary of what’s included in the Bottomless Bubbles drink package:

  • Soft Drinks/Soda (Pepsi products)
  • Juices: orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice and grapefruit juice

Carnival Drink Prices

Below are a list of the sample drink prices on Carnival Cruise Line. You can also check out our bar menus from a recent Carnival Celebration cruise to determine the cost of your favorite beverages.

  • Beer: starting at $6.50
  • Wine by the glass: starting at $9.50
  • Mixed Drinks: $7.50 – $20.00
  • Specialty Cocktails: starting at $10.50
  • Soft Drinks: $2.75
  • Specialty Coffees: $2.50 – $4.25
  • Energy Drinks: $4.95
  • Water: $1.50 – $5.00

Is the Carnival Drink Package Worth It?

This brings us back to the original question, are Carnival drink packages a good value? Essentially, the question is whether you will consume enough beverages to make the purchase “worth it.”

Below are the average costs of the different beverages within each category. Using this chart, you can do the quick math to see if you would routinely hit the daily drink costs of the above packages.

Ultimately, you need to know your own habits to determine if the drink packages on Carnival will be a good value during your cruise.

Other considerations include the length of the cruise and how many ports of call are on the itinerary.

For instance, will you be able to sustain the same drinking pattern over the course of a 10-day or 14-day cruise? If your cruise is port intensive, will you be on the ship enough to make good use of your Carnival drink package?

Carnival Celebration Bars

The drink packages on Carnival certainly do offer convenience, as you never have to worry about the bar tab at the end of the cruise! They also make your cruise feel more all-inclusive.

While we don’t go overboard with alcoholic drinks, we do consume plenty of bottled water, specialty coffee, Vitamin Water/Powerade, and the occasional soda. Combining our alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink purchases, we usually recognize a cost savings with the beverage package.

Other Considerations

Of course, if you wish to forego a beverage package, you can always pay a la carte for your drinks purchased on the ship. You can also purchase items, such as packs of bottled water, pre-cruise via your cruise planner to be delivered to your stateroom.

Further, on embarkation day, guests are allowed to bring onboard a maximum of 12, 12-ounce cans/cartons of non-alcoholic beverages per person in their carry-on luggage. Guests 21 years of age and older may also bring onboard one 750ml bottle of unopened wine or champagne in their carry-on.

Thanks for all of this info. My wife and I will be taking our first cruise on the Carnival Panorama in May.

I like the drink package but do not agree with the pricing structure. For instance on a five day cruise you are charged for the day you leave the ship and you must leave by 8 A.M. why are you charging for that day? In addition the first day you don’t board until lunch so half that day is gone. I think a 5 day cruise should be based on a 4 day pricing structure, a seven day cruise should be a six day pricing structure, etc.

On a 5day cruise you only use for 4 days, so why do we get charged for 5 days.

Our first cruise (4ngt/5 day) we kept a conservative tab on drink expenditures and did not buy the package. We ended up spending between $80.00 -100.00 more then the unlimited Royal Caribbean Drink Pkg. This trip booked for 21 we have bought the DP for 50% off which means we should be $180.00 ahead-roughly speaking. In our case the UDP is a great bargain.

It’s infuriating to me that Carnival does not have a non-alchoholic refreshment package like Royal Carribean. I would love to not have to pay the more expensive price for a drink package that includes alchohol that I will not be consuming! Royal carribean offers this exact package and I love it. It’s a bit more than the soda package but obviously isnt as much as the packages that include alchohol. It’s about $25 a day and you can actually use it on their private island. Come on Carribean!!

They do. It’s called “Bottomless Bubbles” and its $8.50 a day. “Enjoy ice-cold refreshments during meals, during shows, during, well… anytime you want with Bottomless Bubbles. This unlimited program lets you indulge in all-you-can-drink soda and juice for the full length of your cruise. Sweet! Bottomless Bubbles is available for purchase at the Lobby, Casino and Pool Bars. Restrictions apply.”

But the BB package does not include the mocktails, eg virgin mary. Other cruise lines offer soda, juice and mocktail packages.

oops, sorry. I meant, come on Carnival.

Is carnival “considering” allowing the Cheers package on the private island (Half Moon Cay) for 2021 cruises? We have booked the Christmas Bahamas cruise on the Dream in December 2021. BTW- can’t wait to get back cruising again!!!!

Hey we are on the same cruise . It’s our first time cruising.

Do they have non-alcoholic beer on board? If so, is it included in the Cheers package? I can’t find any info on it and I’ve been on hold for over an hour with Carnival Customer Service.

Yes. They have Buckler and O’Douls.

does carnival offer seltzers (trulys, white claw, high noon, etc…) on board?

Interesting… If I purchase the BB package (for 4nights/5days), I am losing out. I cannot board the first day until after 12pm, I cannot take advantage of my BB purchase on either private island, and the cruise is over at 8am the fifth day. Right?

This info is not correct. if there are more than one person in the cabin that wants the cheers package everyone has to purchase it. Not available for only one person. Unless the person is underage. They do this so no one will share drinks. However we all know it is all about the money.

Why wouldn’t it be “All about the money”? It’s a business, not a charity.

Well on a 5-day cruise you actually only get 4 days use of drink pkg but get charged for 5 days. Doesn’t make sense. We disembark on 5th day.

A guide to the Alchemy Bar, Carnival’s hot spot for cocktails (with menu)

Kristy Tolley

If one of your favorite components of a cruise vacation is a robust cocktail scene, Carnival Cruise Line has you covered. The Alchemy Bar, found on most Carnival ships, is a popular hangout among cruise passengers. It made TPG's list of the best cruise ship bars for good reason.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Here's all you need to know about Carnival Cruise Line's Alchemy Bar (including its menu).

What is Carnival's Alchemy Bar?

carnival cruise drink promo

The Alchemy Bar is designed to resemble a pharmacy from a bygone era. The venue's vintage pharmacy theme plays out in bar props like apothecary jars, old-timey-looking wooden drawers and lab coat-wearing mixologists.

The rustic leather-covered cocktail menu holds a list of "remedies" and "elixirs" made with various herbs and botanicals.

If you don't see what you like on the menu — or have already tried everything on it — no problem. Share some of your cocktail "likes," and your Alchemy Bar mixologist will "prescribe" something just for you.

The Alchemy Bar typically opens at 4 p.m. on embarkation and port days. On sea days, it opens at 2 p.m. It has no official closing time, but it's often open past midnight.

Carnival Alchemy Bar menu

You won't find frozen drinks here. Freshly prepared botanical-forward drinks are the star at the Alchemy Bar. The Cucumber Sunrise (a fan favorite) made with vodka, fresh lime juice, watermelon nectar and muddled cucumber is definitely worth checking out. Also, the Quick Fix, with vodka, gin, rum, Midori liqueur, Pernod absinthe and Sprite, should cure all that ails you.

You can also enjoy mocktails at the Alchemy Bar. Carnival offers seven classic cocktails handmade with Lyre's Spiced Cane, Agave Blanco, White Cane and Dry London nonalcoholic spirits.

Enjoy a refreshing Martini Seduction, made with Lyre's White Cane, red passion fruit nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice and a smidgen of orange. The Spicy Chipotle Pineapple Martini features Lyre's Agave Blanco, handcrafted chipotle pineapple syrup, pineapple juice and mint leaves.

The Remedy, Hearts of Fire, Restorative Basil Drop, The Perfect Storm and Cucumber Sunrise cocktails are also available sans alcohol.

What do drinks at the Alchemy Bar cost?

Cocktails at the Alchemy Bar cost $14 for alcoholic beverages and $10 for nonalcoholic drinks. Drinks on the Alchemy Bar menu are covered under the Carnival Cheers drink package.

The Cucumber Sunrise is probably my favorite Alchemy Bar cocktail. Refreshing and light, it tastes like a vacation in a glass. It's made with Belvedere vodka, fresh lime juice, Monin watermelon syrup and orange juice and is topped with cucumber wheels.

Whether you want to celebrate an upcoming Carnival cruise or are craving to relive your previous Alchemy Bar experience, here's the recipe for the Cucumber Sunrise so you can create it at home. Throw on a lab coat for the ultimate Alchemy Bar vibe.

enjoying cruise perks economically

When aiming to maximize value with drink packages on Carnival cruises, it's essential to carefully consider the inclusions, limitations, and pricing structures to make the most of your onboard beverage experience. In conclusion, taking a cruise during hurricane season requires careful planning and consideration. By understanding hurricane seasons, choosing the right destination, monitoring weather patterns, and staying flexible with your itinerary, you can minimize the risk of encountering a hurricane during your cruise. Additionally, it’s important to be aware of the safety measures taken by cruise lines and to be personally prepared for any unexpected situations. With these tips and tricks, you can enjoy a worry-free cruise vacation and navigate through the stormy seas with confidence.

  • Research destinations with lower hurricane risk during travel dates
  • Consider cruising during off-peak hurricane season for chosen destination
  • Keep an eye on weather forecasts and hurricane tracking websites
  • Be prepared to change itinerary or cruise dates based on predicted hurricanes

Understanding Hurricane Seasons

Understanding hurricane seasons is important if you want to avoid stormy surprises during your cruise. Hurricane tracking and preparedness are essential for a worry-free experience.

Hurricane seasons vary depending on the region. In the Atlantic Ocean, the season runs from June 1st to November 30th, with peak activity in August and September. In the Eastern Pacific Ocean, the season starts on May 15th and ends on November 30th.

It’s crucial to note that hurricanes can form outside of these dates, so staying informed and prepared throughout the year is important.

Now that we understand the hurricane seasons, let’s move on to choosing the right cruise destination.

Choosing the Right Cruise Destination

When planning your vacation at sea, it’s crucial to select a cruise destination that ensures smooth sailing and tropical bliss. When it comes to cruise destination selection, there are several popular options to consider.

First, you can choose to cruise through the Caribbean, known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. This region offers a variety of itineraries, allowing you to explore different islands and experience their unique cultures.

Another popular choice is cruising to Alaska, where you can witness breathtaking glaciers and abundant wildlife. The stunning scenery and outdoor adventures make it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts.

In addition, Mediterranean cruises offer a blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty. From exploring ancient ruins in Greece to indulging in Italian cuisine, this region has something for everyone.

Transitioning into the next section about off-peak travel periods, it’s important to consider the best time to visit these cruise destinations to avoid crowds and maximize your experience.

Off-Peak Travel Periods

During the off-peak travel periods, you can enjoy cruising to popular destinations without dealing with large crowds or worrying about hurricane season. It’s the perfect time to take advantage of travel discounts and cruise package deals.

Since fewer people are traveling, cruise lines often offer great deals and promotions to attract passengers. You can save money while still experiencing all the amenities and activities that a cruise has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway or an adventurous expedition, off-peak travel periods provide a quieter and more intimate cruising experience.

However, it’s important to keep an eye on weather patterns. In the next section, we’ll discuss the importance of monitoring weather patterns to ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise vacation.

Monitoring Weather Patterns

Monitoring weather patterns is crucial for ensuring a safe and enjoyable cruise vacation. Unpredictable storms can quickly turn the ocean into a turbulent and treacherous playground, even for experienced sailors. To stay informed about potential storms that could impact your cruise, it is essential to use weather monitoring and hurricane tracking tools. Reliable sources such as the National Hurricane Center can provide up-to-date information on developing weather systems. Signing up for weather alerts or notifications from your cruise line or travel agency is also recommended. By being aware of potential weather disturbances in advance, you can make informed decisions about your travel plans and potentially avoid areas affected by hurricanes. Staying informed and prepared minimizes the risk of encountering severe weather during your cruise.

Flexibility in Itinerary Planning

Flexibility in itinerary planning is crucial for a smooth and stress-free cruise experience. Being able to adjust your plans at a moment’s notice is essential, especially when it comes to avoiding hurricanes. Cruise lines closely monitor weather patterns and make necessary changes to ensure passenger safety. They may alter the course, change ports, or even cancel stops if there’s a potential hurricane threat. By staying flexible, you can avoid sailing into dangerous weather conditions and enjoy a more pleasant journey.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that unexpected changes can happen. Having travel insurance is always a good idea to provide peace of mind and financial protection throughout your trip.

Booking Travel Insurance

After considering the flexibility in itinerary planning, let’s move on to the importance of booking travel insurance. When it comes to protecting your investment and ensuring peace of mind, travel insurance is a must-have. It safeguards you against unforeseen circumstances that may disrupt your cruise plans. When booking travel insurance, it is essential to compare coverage and understand policy exclusions. This will help you make an informed decision and choose a policy that suits your needs and budget. To create a mental image, let me illustrate this with a 3×3 table:

Now that we understand the importance of travel insurance, let’s explore cruise line policies and communication.

Cruise Line Policies and Communication

When it comes to planning a cruise, it’s important to review the hurricane policies of the cruise line. Knowing what their policy is in the event of a hurricane can help you make an informed decision about whether or not to book a cruise during hurricane season.

Additionally, it’s crucial to have clear communication channels with the cruise line, so you can stay updated on any changes or cancellations due to weather conditions.

To avoid any potential hurricane disruptions, it’s important to review the cruise line’s policies regarding hurricanes. Here are some key things to look for:

Cruise line cancellation policies: Find out what the cruise line’s policy is for cancellations due to hurricanes. Will you receive a full refund or a credit for a future cruise?

Refund policies: Understand how the cruise line handles refunds in case your trip is affected by a hurricane. Do they offer partial refunds or pro-rated credits?

Hurricane evacuation procedures: It’s important to know how the cruise line will handle the situation if a hurricane is approaching. Will they reroute the ship or bring you back to the port early?

Hurricane tracking tools: Check if the cruise line provides access to tools or resources that allow you to track hurricanes yourself. This can help you stay informed and make informed decisions.

By understanding the cruise line’s policies and procedures, you can be better prepared for any potential hurricane disruptions.

In the next section, we’ll discuss the importance of clear communication channels with the cruise line.

Clear communication channels with the cruise line

Having clear communication channels with the cruise line is crucial. But how can you ensure that you’re able to reach them in case of an emergency or unexpected situation?

It’s important to research and choose a cruise line that prioritizes customer service and has a strong emergency response system in place. Look for cruise lines that offer multiple communication options, such as phone, email, and live chat. Ensure that their customer service representatives are available 24/7.

Before your cruise, make sure to save the cruise line’s contact information on your phone and keep a hard copy as well. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the cruise line’s emergency protocols and procedures, so you know what to expect in case of any unexpected situations.

With a reliable communication system in place, you can have peace of mind while enjoying your cruise.

Speaking of safety measures onboard…

Medications and first aid kit: It’s important to have a sufficient supply of any necessary medications and a well-stocked first aid kit to address any minor injuries or illnesses that may occur during the cruise.

Extra food and water: In case of any disruptions to the ship’s services, having extra non-perishable food and water will ensure you have sustenance until normal operations resume.

By packing these essential items, you’ll be better equipped to handle any unforeseen circumstances and prioritize your personal safety during your cruise.

What Not To Pack For A Cruise

An image showcasing a suitcase overflowing with prohibited items for a cruise, such as knives, irons, and fireworks

Setting out on a cruise demands both clever and wise packing choices. Having been on numerous cruises myself, I’ve learned, sometimes through challenging lessons, which items are better left at home. Think of your luggage as a ship and each item you pack as a member of its crew. You want your ship to sail smoothly, not weighed down by unnecessary items. Let me guide you away from typical packing mistakes, acting as your experienced guide through these perilous seas.

In this article, I will share with you the items that symbolize excess and inconvenience, and should be left behind.

Bulky towels and beach chairs may seem essential for a day at the shore, but trust me, the cruise provides those amenities.

Excessive amounts of clothing will only clutter your cabin and make unpacking a nightmare.

Valuables and expensive jewelry are best left at home, as the ship provides safekeeping for your peace of mind.

Non-essential electronics, full-size toiletries, and multiple suitcases are all extra baggage that you won’t need.

Lastly, leave the outside food and beverages, prohibited items, and unnecessary documents behind.

So, prepare to set sail with confidence, knowing that you’ve packed only what’s necessary for a smooth voyage.

  • Prohibited items such as sharp objects, firearms, and illegal substances are strictly forbidden on cruises.
  • Avoid bringing unnecessary paperwork and only carry essential documents like a valid passport for international cruises.
  • Be cautious with valuables and jewelry, considering leaving expensive items at home and keeping valuables secure in your cabin or onboard safe.
  • Follow guidelines for restricted items, check for specific restrictions on items like alcohol and electronic devices, and ensure compliance with cruise line rules.

Bulky Towels and Beach Chairs

Don’t bother packing those bulky towels and beach chairs – you’ll find plenty of comfortable seating and fluffy towels on the cruise ship.

One of the perks of going on a cruise is that you don’t have to worry about lugging around heavy beach gear. Instead, you can relax and enjoy the convenience of sand-free beach towels provided by the ship. These towels are not only soft and absorbent but also readily available whenever you need them.

As for portable folding chairs, the cruise ship has got you covered. Whether you want to lounge by the pool or soak up some sun on the deck, there are ample seating options available. So, leave the extra load at home and embrace the ease and comfort of the cruise ship amenities.

Speaking of which, another thing you won’t need to pack is excessive amounts of clothing.

Excessive Amounts of Clothing

Leave behind the temptation to overstuff your suitcase with unnecessary outfits, as a minimalist approach will grant you more freedom to fully enjoy your cruise experience. When it comes to packing for a cruise, less is definitely more. Instead of bringing an excessive amount of clothing options, focus on versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched.

Consider the activities and weather forecasted during your trip and pack accordingly. Opt for lightweight, wrinkle-resistant fabrics that can be easily layered. Packing tips for a minimalist cruise packing include choosing a color scheme to simplify outfit coordination and packing multi-purpose items like a sarong that can be used as a cover-up, scarf, or beach towel.

By adopting a minimalist mindset, you’ll have more time to relax and explore, without the stress of lugging around a heavy suitcase.

As we move onto the next section about valuables and expensive jewelry, it’s important to consider the safety of your belongings while on board.

Valuables and Expensive Jewelry

When it comes to valuable items and expensive jewelry, it’s best to bring only what you need and can comfortably wear. While it may be tempting to showcase your finest pieces on a cruise, it’s important to consider the risks involved. One of the main concerns is the possibility of loss or theft. To minimize these risks, I recommend leaving your most valuable jewelry at home and bringing only a few pieces that you can easily keep track of. Additionally, it’s wise to invest in travel insurance that covers any potential losses or damages. As for local currency, it’s always a good idea to have some on hand for small purchases or emergencies. Now, let’s move on to the next section where we discuss non-essential electronics.

Non-essential Electronics

When preparing for your cruise, it’s worth considering bringing along non-essential electronics that can enhance your experience and add convenience to your travels. One item that should be on your list is a travel adapter. This is especially important if you plan on using electronics from different countries, as it will ensure that you can charge your devices without any issues.

Another great addition to your packing list is a portable gaming console if you enjoy gaming. These consoles can provide entertainment during long stretches at sea or while waiting for excursions. They are compact and easy to carry around, making them a convenient choice.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that these electronics are not essential for your cruise experience. They can take up valuable space in your luggage, so it’s essential to prioritize what you truly need. With that in mind, let’s now move on to the next section about full-size toiletries and beauty products.

Full-size Toiletries and Beauty Products

When packing for your cruise vacation, it’s important to consider the size limitations of cruise cabins. Instead of packing your entire bathroom cabinet, opt for travel-sized alternatives for your toiletries and beauty products. Many brands offer mini versions of popular items, which are compact and easier to pack. This not only saves space in your luggage but also complies with airline regulations for carry-on liquids. Another packing tip is to use multi-purpose products that can serve multiple functions, such as a moisturizer with SPF. This way, you can streamline your beauty routine without sacrificing your skincare needs.

Formal Attire for Every Night

Dress up in your finest attire each night and embrace the elegance and glamour of the formal evenings onboard your cruise. The dress code expectations for formal nights vary depending on the cruise line, but typically, men are expected to wear tuxedos or suits, while women are expected to wear formal gowns or cocktail dresses. However, if packing formal attire for every night seems excessive, there are alternatives to consider. Some cruise lines have "smart casual" or "resort casual" nights, where a more relaxed dress code is accepted. This allows you to bring a few formal outfits for the main formal nights and more casual attire for the other evenings. By doing so, you can still enjoy the elegant atmosphere without overpacking your suitcase. Speaking of suitcases, let’s move on to the next section about multiple suitcases without missing a beat.

Multiple Suitcases

Packing for a cruise can feel like a juggling act, especially when faced with the challenge of fitting multiple suitcases into limited storage space. To make the most of your packing, here are some helpful tips.

Consider using collapsible suitcases or packing cubes to maximize space. These can compress your clothes and make them easier to fit into tight spots.

Try to pack versatile clothing items that can be mixed and matched, reducing the need for multiple outfits.

Don’t forget to bring essential items like sunscreen, medications, and toiletries.

Remember, the key to successful packing is to prioritize what you truly need and leave behind what you don’t.

Speaking of leaving things behind, let’s move on to the next section about outside food and beverages without sacrificing the cruise experience.

Outside Food and Beverages

After lugging around multiple suitcases on my last cruise, I quickly learned that less is definitely more when it comes to packing.

So, let’s move on to another item that you should leave behind: outside food and beverages.

Trust me, there’s no need to bring your own picnic supplies on board. Cruise ships are known for their wide range of dining options, from casual buffets to elegant restaurants. Plus, many cruise lines offer special dining packages and restaurant reservations, allowing you to indulge in a variety of cuisines throughout your trip.

Bringing outside food and beverages not only takes up valuable space in your suitcase, but it’s also unnecessary and may even be prohibited by the cruise line.

Speaking of prohibited items, let’s dive into the next section and see what else you should avoid packing.

Prohibited Items

Leave behind any prohibited items, as they can cause unnecessary trouble and inconvenience during your cruise. It is essential to ensure the safety and security of all passengers on board. Therefore, sharp objects and weapons are strictly prohibited. This includes items such as knives, firearms, and any other potentially dangerous objects.

Additionally, it should go without saying that illegal substances and drugs are strictly forbidden. Bringing such items on board not only violates the law but also puts yourself and others at risk. Cruise lines have strict policies in place to prevent the smuggling of drugs and illegal substances. Therefore, it is crucial to thoroughly check your luggage before embarking on your cruise to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Now, let’s move on to the next important topic: unnecessary documents and paperwork.

Unnecessary Documents and Paperwork

When preparing for your trip, it is important to be mindful of the documents and paperwork you bring. Unnecessary paperwork can take up valuable space in your luggage, so it is best to avoid bringing any that is not essential. Did you know that the average traveler carries around 4 pounds of unnecessary paperwork?

When it comes to passport requirements, it is essential to bring a valid passport for international cruises. However, additional documents like birth certificates or visas may not be necessary, depending on your specific itinerary. To ensure you have the correct documentation, it is always a good idea to check with your cruise line or travel agent beforehand.

As for medical records, it is best to have a copy of any important medical information or prescriptions in case of emergencies. However, carrying unnecessary medical records can be burdensome. Remember to bring only what is essential for your health and well-being during the cruise.

Can I bring my own snorkeling gear on the cruise?

Yes, you can bring your own snorkeling gear on the cruise. It’s important to pack essentials like your snorkel, mask, and fins. Having your own gear ensures a comfortable and enjoyable snorkeling experience during the trip.

Is it allowed to bring a hairdryer or should I use the one provided by the cruise ship?

I wouldn’t bring my own hairdryer on a cruise, even if it’s my go-to. The cruise ship’s hairdryer is reliable and convenient. No worries about packing or potential damage. It’s a hassle-free choice.

Are there any restrictions on bringing prescription medications on a cruise?

Bringing prescription medications on a cruise is allowed, but they must go through security checks. It’s important to keep them in their original containers and carry a copy of the prescription, just in case.

Can I bring my own alcohol on the cruise ship?

Prohibited items: what items are not allowed on a cruise ship? Well, when it comes to alcohol, most cruise lines have strict policies. It’s important to understand the rules and regulations for bringing your own alcohol on board.

Should I bring my own beach towels or are they provided by the cruise ship?

I recommend bringing your own beach towels for the cruise. While some ships provide them, they may be limited or require a deposit. Beach towel alternatives could include sarongs or lightweight blankets. Beach towel rental options may also be available on board.

– Is there a specific reason why some items should not be packed for a cruise, even a specific one like a Carnival cruise to Cozumel?

When preparing for a Cozumel Carnival cruise, it’s essential to refer to the official packing list for Cozumel Carnival to ensure you don’t bring any prohibited items. Certain items like weapons, illegal drugs, and flammable materials are strictly prohibited to maintain a safe and secure environment for all passengers.

After years of cruising experience, I can confidently say that packing efficiently is key to a stress-free vacation. Leave behind the bulky towels and beach chairs, as the cruise ship provides everything you need.

Don’t overpack your wardrobe; a few versatile outfits will suffice. Leave your valuables and expensive jewelry at home to avoid unnecessary worry. Non-essential electronics can be a distraction from the beauty of the cruise experience.

Opt for travel-sized toiletries and beauty products instead of full-size versions. Remember, multiple suitcases will only weigh you down. Avoid bringing outside food and beverages, as the ship offers a wide variety of delicious options.

Lastly, leave behind any prohibited items and unnecessary documents. By following these tips, you’ll have a smooth and enjoyable cruise, creating unforgettable memories.

How To Find A Cruise

An image of a sunlit deck overlooking a vast expanse of shimmering blue ocean, adorned with vibrant palm trees and a sleek cruise ship in the background, showcasing the ultimate guide to finding your perfect cruise

Embarking on a cruise is like starting an incredible voyage, with the vast ocean as your playground and a luxurious ship as your temporary home. Yet, with so many options available, finding the perfect cruise can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. That’s where I come in.

In this article, I will guide you through the process of finding the ideal cruise that suits your preferences, budget, and sense of adventure. From researching different cruise lines and ships to choosing the right itinerary and considering the time of year and destination, I will provide you with all the necessary information to make an informed decision.

So sit back, relax, and let’s set sail on a journey to find the cruise of your dreams.

  • Consider your preferences, budget, and desired activities when choosing a cruise.
  • Research and compare different cruise lines, ships, and prices to find the best value for money.
  • Look for onboard amenities and activities that align with your interests, such as entertainment, dining options, and fitness facilities.
  • Take into account the destination and climate, and choose a cruise that offers a balance between relaxation and exploration.

Determine Your Preferences and Budget

Determining my preferences and budget is crucial when searching for a cruise. Before embarking on my journey, I need to consider what I want from my cruise experience. Do I prefer a smaller, more intimate ship or a larger, more extravagant one? Am I interested in specific destinations or activities?

Once I have a clear idea of my preferences, I can then establish a budget. How much am I willing to spend on accommodations, dining, and other onboard amenities? It’s important to factor in additional costs such as excursions and gratuities as well.

By determining my preferences and setting a budget, I can narrow down my options and find a cruise that aligns with my needs. Now, let’s move on to the next step and research different cruise lines and ships.

Research Different Cruise Lines and Ships

Exploring various cruise lines and their unique ships can be an exciting way to embark on a memorable vacation at sea. When researching cruise lines, it’s important to consider their reputation, amenities, and target audience. Some cruise lines cater to families with children, while others focus on luxury and relaxation for adults.

Take the time to compare different ships within each cruise line, as they can vary in size, onboard activities, and dining options. Look for ships that offer the amenities and activities that align with your preferences. Additionally, consider the ship’s age and condition, as newer ships often have more modern features and technology.

Researching cruise lines and comparing different ships will help you find the perfect fit for your dream vacation at sea.

Next, let’s discuss how to choose the right itinerary to complement your cruise experience.

Choose the Right Itinerary

Contrary to popular belief, your itinerary is not just a list of destinations, but rather a carefully curated adventure that will transport you to new and exciting worlds. When selecting ports and cruise itineraries, it’s important to consider your interests and preferences.

Do you prefer relaxing on pristine beaches or exploring vibrant cities? Are you interested in cultural immersion or thrilling outdoor activities? Research different itineraries offered by various cruise lines to find the one that aligns with your desires. Look for a balance between port days and sea days, allowing you to explore different destinations while also enjoying the amenities and activities onboard.

Consider the time of year and destination as well, as certain regions may be more enjoyable during specific seasons. By carefully choosing your itinerary, you can ensure a truly unforgettable cruise experience.

Now, let’s consider the time of year and destination.

Consider the Time of Year and Destination

When planning your cruise, think about the time of year and the destination you want to visit. The best time to take a cruise can vary depending on the destination you choose.

Some popular destinations, like the Caribbean, have a peak season during the winter months when the weather is warm and sunny. However, if you prefer to avoid crowds and save money, you may want to consider traveling during the shoulder season, which is right before or after the peak season.

Additionally, different destinations have different weather patterns throughout the year, so it’s important to research the climate of your desired destination to ensure you have the best experience possible.

Once you have considered the time of year and destination, the next step is to read reviews and ask for recommendations to help you make an informed decision.

Read Reviews and Ask for Recommendations

Seeking out reviews and recommendations from experienced travelers can provide valuable insights and assist in making a well-informed decision. Before booking a cruise, it’s important to read reviews and ask for recommendations to ensure a memorable experience. By doing so, you can gain insights into the quality of service, amenities offered, and overall satisfaction of previous passengers.

To help you visualize the benefits of reading reviews and asking for recommendations, consider the following table:

By comparing options and taking into account the experiences shared by others, you can make an informed choice when selecting a cruise. Next, let’s explore how to compare prices and look for deals without overspending.

Compare Prices and Look for Deals

To make sure you get the best value for your money, take a moment to compare prices and keep an eye out for irresistible deals that will leave you feeling like you’ve hit the jackpot.

When it comes to finding a cruise, comparing prices is essential. Different cruise lines offer different pricing options, so it’s important to do your research and see what fits within your budget. Look for deals such as discounted rates, onboard credits, or special promotions. Many travel websites and cruise line websites have sections dedicated to showcasing the latest deals and offers.

Additionally, consider booking during off-peak seasons or last-minute to take advantage of lower prices.

Once you’ve compared prices and found some great deals, it’s time to look for extra amenities and onboard activities that will enhance your cruise experience.

Look for Extra Amenities and Onboard Activities

Get ready to have a blast on your cruise by exploring the wide range of extra amenities and exciting onboard activities available to enhance your experience.

Onboard entertainment is a key aspect of any cruise, and you’ll find a variety of options to suit your tastes. From Broadway-style shows and live music performances to comedy clubs and casinos, there’s something for everyone.

Additionally, make sure to check out the dining options onboard. From buffet-style restaurants to upscale dining experiences, cruise ships offer a plethora of choices to satisfy your culinary cravings.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the onboard activities, such as fitness centers, swimming pools, and sports courts, to stay active during your voyage.

As you delve into these amenities and activities, keep in mind the next section, which will discuss considering the size and atmosphere of the ship.

Consider the Size and Atmosphere of the Ship

When choosing a cruise, it’s important to take into account the size and atmosphere of the ship in order to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Size vs atmosphere is a crucial consideration as it determines the overall vibe of the ship.

Larger ships tend to offer a wider range of amenities and activities, such as multiple restaurants, pools, and entertainment options. They also provide a more bustling and energetic atmosphere with a larger number of passengers onboard.

On the other hand, smaller ships offer a more intimate and relaxed setting with fewer passengers, allowing for a more personalized experience.

It’s essential to choose the right vibe that aligns with your preferences and travel goals.

So, once you’ve considered the size and atmosphere of the ship, it’s time to book your cruise and prepare for your trip.

Book Your Cruise and Prepare for Your Trip

Once you’ve made your decision and secured your reservation, it’s time to eagerly anticipate and plan for the exciting adventure that awaits on your upcoming cruise.

Here are some important things to consider when it comes to bookings and packing tips:

  • Check the cruise line’s website for any additional information or requirements before your trip.
  • Make sure to pack all the essentials, such as comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and any necessary medications.
  • Don’t forget to bring important documents like your passport and travel insurance information.

Now that you have your cruise booked and all your essentials packed, it’s time to get ready to enjoy your cruise experience to the fullest. Explore the ship, participate in onboard activities, and indulge in the delicious cuisine.

Get ready for a memorable journey at sea!

Firstly, take advantage of the onboard activities and entertainment options. From live shows to sports activities, there’s something for everyone.

Secondly, indulge in the culinary delights offered on the ship. From buffet-style meals to specialty restaurants, there’s a wide range of options to satisfy your taste buds.

Additionally, make sure to explore the ports of call and participate in shore excursions to truly immerse yourself in the local culture.

Lastly, don’t forget to capture your memories by taking photos and videos throughout your cruise.

Following these tips and tricks will ensure that you have an unforgettable and enjoyable cruise experience.

Are there any age restrictions for cruising?

Can I bring my own alcohol on board?

What should I pack for a cruise?

For a cruise, pack essentials like sunscreen, swimwear, formal attire, and comfortable shoes. Consider outfit ideas such as sundresses, shorts, and collared shirts. Don’t forget toiletries, medications, and travel documents.

Are there any medical facilities on board?

Yes, there are medical facilities on board cruise ships. They provide a range of medical services and emergency care. It’s reassuring to know that you’ll be in good hands if any medical needs arise while on your cruise.

What is the tipping policy on cruises?

On cruises, tipping policies vary. It’s important to research the specific cruise line to understand their guidelines. As a general rule, it’s customary to tip the cabin steward, dining staff, and other service providers.

Can I Find a Solo Cruise Option If I Want to Cruise Alone?

Yes, you can find solo cruise options if you want to cruise alone. Many cruise lines offer special accommodations and activities for solo travelers. When booking your solo cruise, be sure to ask about cruising solo tips to make the most of your experience.

In conclusion, planning a cruise can be as exciting as setting sail on the open sea. By considering your preferences, researching different cruise lines, and choosing the right itinerary, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Remember to read reviews and ask for recommendations to find the perfect fit. Just like a captain navigating the waves, take charge of your cruise experience and make the most of it.

Bon voyage!

Carnival Cruise Line Drink Packages: The Ultimate Guide (2023)

Mainstream cruise lines, including Carnival , don’t offer many complimentary drink options on the ship. So for many cruisers, the bar bill ends up being a large portion of their vacation budget. If you’re cruising on Carnival, a Carnival Cruise Line drink package lets you pre-plan your drink budget so you’re not hit with a huge bar tab at the end of your cruise!

carnival cruise drink promo

Carnival offers drink packages for all ages, at various price points. But is a Carnival beverage package worth it? I’ll help you decide if you should buy one and which drink package is right for you .

Carnival last updated its beverage package pricing in May 2022, and also made some small changes to the program in 2023. I’ll explain what each package currently includes and how much it will cost for your cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line drink packages available for 2023 and beyond

Although Carnival offers a small selection of complimentary beverages around the clock (tap water, non-specialty coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, lemonade or juice drinks, and iced tea), you might want to expand your drink options without having to pay each time you order.

Unlike some cruise lines that offer a wide range of drink packages, Carnival makes their prepaid beverage packages simple. There are only two options: one for soft drinks only, and one for both alcohol and soft drinks.

Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles

Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival’s prepaid soda package, available for both children and adults. This option includes all-you-can-drink fountain soda, sparkling water, and fruit juices.

The cost for Bottomless Bubbles is $6.95 per day for children under 18, and $9.50 per day for adults age 18 and up. An 18% gratuity is added to the price at the time of package purchase.

Back in January 2020, Carnival began the switch from serving Coke products to Pepsi products. Today, all of Carnival’s fleet exclusively serves Pepsi products.

Tip: If you’re a die-hard Coke fan, you can always carry on a limited amount of your favorite Coke products in cans. Learn more in How to Bring Your Own Drinks on a Cruise .

Carnival’s Pepsi lineup is as follows:

  • Pepsi Zero Sugar
  • Caffeine Free Pepsi
  • Diet Pepsi Caffeine Free
  • Sierra Mist
  • Sierra Mist Zero Sugar
  • Mug Root Beer
  • Mountain Dew
  • Diet Mountain Dew
  • Bubly Sparkling Water (Lime, Grapefruit, or Orange)

Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper are also usually added to the list for cruises departing the ports of Galveston and New Orleans.

Tip: You can also buy a reusable Carnival soft drink tumbler for $5.95 with Bottomless Bubbles ($9.95 without the program). Consider waiting to buy your soft drink tumbler once the ship is in international waters to avoid paying sales tax at the embarkation port.

Fruit juice options include:

  • Orange Juice
  • Cranberry Juice
  • Tomato Juice
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Grapefruit Juice

For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles drink package would cost $57.41 for a child and $78.47 for an adult, including gratuities.

Note: Bottomless Bubbles is not always available on European itineraries.

Carnival’s CHEERS! Beverage Program

CHEERS! is Carnival Cruise Line’s all-inclusive beverage package. Available for guests age 21 and over, CHEERS! includes a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, mocktails, and an expanded range of non-alcoholic drinks compared to Bottomless Bubbles.

carnival cruise drink promo

The cost for CHEERS! when you pre-purchase before your cruise is $59.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.

If you purchase CHEERS! on board, the cost is $64.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.

Carnival’s CHEERS! package includes:

  • All cocktails, spirits, and beer and wine by the glass with a menu price of $20.00 or lower
  • Soda, mocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffees and teas, 500ml bottled water, and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages
  • Self-service beer stations
  • Large bottles of water in the dining rooms and specialty restaurants

CHEERS! also includes all soft drinks in the Bottomless Bubbles package plus:

  • Pure Leaf Unsweetened Black Tea
  • Pure Leaf Sweet Tea
  • Gatorade (Lemon-Lime or Fruit Punch)
  • Propel (Berry, Grape, or Kiwi Strawberry)
  • Starbucks Frappuccino
  • Starbucks Double Shot Espresso

Guests with the CHEERS! package also are eligible for a 25% discount off spirits or wine by the glass above $20.00, wine and champagne by the bottle, and beverage seminars and classes.

For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s CHEERS! drink package would cost $495.19 if you pre-purchase it, and $536.49 if you buy it on board (I’ve included gratuities in this calculation.)

FAQ about Carnival Cruise Line drink packages

If you’ve never cruised with Carnival before, or it’s been a while since your last cruise, you probably have some general questions about how the Carnival Cruise Line drink packages work.

I’ll answer the most common ones here. If you have a question that I haven’t answered, just drop it in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer it.

Do you need to tip for drinks purchased with a Carnival beverage package?

All Carnival drink packages have an extra 18% gratuity on top of the list price. So, you won’t need to tip your bartender or server each time you order a drink with your beverage package – you’ve already pre-paid your tips.

However, you can always add an extra tip for your favorite bartenders, if you choose.

Do you need to pay tax on your drinks?

When you’re out at sea in international waters, you don’t need to worry about paying tax on any of your drinks. But when you’re in port, some local authorities require cruise lines to collect tax on the menu price of any beverages you buy.

Taxes will be charged to your on board account if you buy drinks one-by-one or use a beverage package.

The tax percentage varies by port, but it’s never a huge amount—generally somewhere between 5-10% of the cost of each drink. If a jurisdiction charges tax, it will be charged on each drink when the ship is in port and in its territorial waters.

Do Carnival drink packages work on their private islands?

Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles and CHEERS! packages can’t be used to order beverages on the private islands of Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays .

How old do you have to be to buy an alcoholic beverage package on Carnival?

You must be age 21 or over to purchase or use the CHEERS! package on all Carnival cruises, regardless of the legal drinking age at any ports you might visit.

For those turning 21 during the cruise, you’ll be able to purchase alcohol à la carte with a valid ID starting on your birthday. You won’t be able to purchase a CHEERS! package in the middle of the cruise.

Can you share your Carnival beverage package with another guest?

Carnival issues a sticker for each guest that purchases a beverage package, and the sticker goes on your Sail & Sign card. Only one beverage per sticker will be served at a time.

Carnival (like most other cruise lines today) requires that if one person buys the CHEERS! package, every person 21 and older in the same stateroom must also purchase the package. Cruise lines have implemented this policy to crack down on beverage package sharing.

Many cruise lines will waive this requirement if you don’t drink because of pregnancy, a medical condition, religious beliefs, or if you’re in recovery from substance use disorder. However, Carnival is known to be very strict with this policy. You can try reaching out to Carnival to ask for an exemption, but it’s not very likely that they’ll budge.

How do you buy a Carnival Cruise Line drink package?

Before your cruise, you can pre-purchase Bottomless Bubbles or CHEERS! online at www.carnival.com/Funshops or by calling (800) 522-7648. The cut-off time for online pre-purchase is 11:59 PM EST the day before embarkation. The call center closes at 9:00 PM EST, so their cut-off time is a bit earlier.

Both packages will also be available for purchase on the ship on embarkation day and the first full cruise day. You can get Bottomless Bubbles at the lobby, casino, and pool bars.

Tables will be set up around the ship on embarkation day and the next day where you can buy the CHEERS! package.

Can you buy a Carnival drink package for certain days of the cruise?

It would be nice to pick and choose which days you have a drink package (like sea days only, please!), but once you buy a package you need to buy it for each remaining day of your cruise. Take this into consideration if you have a lot of longer shore excursions when you won’t be on the ship to use the package.

In order to minimize your costs, consider waiting until the second day of your cruise to buy a beverage package. You’ll just need to pay for any drinks you consume on embarkation day.

But, remember that you save 10% if you pre-order the CHEERS! package before your cruise. Do the math to see which option saves more money for your situation.

Does Carnival ever offer a free drink package?

Outside of comped cruises through the casino, I’ve never seen Carnival offer a free beverage package as a perk for booking a cruise. That’s not to say it will never happen, but it’s pretty unlikely. Carnival’s business model is to keep prices low, and for guests to pay for any extras on an à la carte basis.

If you’re looking for a low-priced cruise line that offers free drink packages very consistently, Norwegian is your best bet. Or, if your budget is a bit higher, consider an all-inclusive cruise.

How much are drinks on a Carnival cruise if you buy them individually?

If you’re considering buying a drink package for your first Carnival cruise, you’re probably wondering what the menu prices are if you buy drinks individually.

Here are typical menu prices for a variety of drinks on Carnival:

  • Beer: $6 – $8 per glass
  • Wine $8 – $14 per glass
  • Mixed drinks: $7 – $20
  • Soft drinks: $2.50
  • Specialty soft drinks: $2 – $5
  • Bottled water: $1.25 – $5

Is there a limit to how many drinks you can get per day with a Carnival beverage package?

You’re allowed to drink an unlimited amount of non-alcoholic drinks with both Bottomless Bubbles and the CHEERS! package. (You do need to wait five minutes between drink orders, except if you’re ordering bottled water along with your drink.)

However, you can only have 15 alcoholic drinks per day. That sounds like a lot, but lots of cruisers can (and do!) reach that cap. Bartenders and servers track drink orders on their POS system, so you can always ask how many drinks you’re up to if you lose track!

Once you hit the 15 drinks, you’re not allowed to order more alcohol, even if you try to pay out of pocket. The 24-hour period resets every morning at 6 AM.

Are there any restrictions on where you can use a Carnival drink package?

You can use your Carnival drink package for onboard purchases only. When you’re in port, you can’t use the package off the ship, even on a Carnival-sponsored shore excursion.

Carnival Cruise Line drink packages also don’t apply to drinks ordered through room service or the Interactive TV system, or for beverages from your stateroom’s minibar.

The CHEERS! package also can’t be used for the following alcoholic drinks:

  • Drinks in souvenir glasses (but you can ask for the same drink in a regular glass)
  • Bottles of liquor
  • Drinks offered at the gangway
  • Cocktails meant for sharing
  • Floaters, pitchers, tubes, or buckets
  • Wines from the enomatic wine machines

If your cruise departs from Galveston or New York, the CHEERS! package doesn’t go into effect until 6 AM on the second day of the sailing.

Is it worth it to get a drink package on a Carnival cruise?

When deciding if it’s worth it to buy a drink package on Carnival, it all depends on how much you think you’ll be drinking. If you’re sure you’ll only have a couple of drinks each day, it’s a far better deal to just pay as you go.

For the average cruiser, five alcoholic drinks per day is about where the break-even point is for the CHEERS! package. If you like to drink higher-end wines or spirits, your break-even point could be lower. Remember, the package includes drinks that normally cost up to $20 each!

Your soft drinks, bottled water, and specialty coffees are also included, so factor those costs into your decision as well. Those little purchases can add up over the length of your cruise.

But if you have a cabin-mate who doesn’t drink much, it might not be worth having to buy an expensive package for someone who won’t get their money’s worth.

If you’re a soda drinker, Bottomless Bubbles can be a money-saver. Know you’ll have at least three soft drinks each day? Then it really makes sense to buy this package.

Wednesday 19th of May 2021

Hi Tammy, great question! Beverage packages are charged to individual passengers, so you won't be forced to pay a double charge if you're a solo traveler in a double-occupancy stateroom. You'll only need to pay for a single CHEERS! package. Happy sailing!

Thank you for a very informative article. Just wondering how Cheers compares to pre-purchasing and having a liter (or two) delivered to the cabin. Also, where could I find a list of higher end spirits available?

Friday 4th of September 2020

Hi Sean, great question! It's definitely cheaper to pre-purchase a bottle, especially if you're drinking basic mixed drinks with one shot and a mixer. If a liter of liquor has 22 shots, and it costs $50-100 per bottle, you can definitely save money. I've never gone this route myself, because I don't spend much time in the stateroom and it's way more convenient to grab a drink from a bar. (You could make yourself a drink in your room and walk around the ship with it, but you'd have to go back to the room each time.) For a list of spirits that Carnival offers, go to https://www.carnival.com/in-room-food-beverages and click on "liquor" on the left. Happy cruising!

Hi Great article and some really good tips but I did read somewhere drinks packages are not available in Europe - Is that correct?

Hi Ally, I'm so glad you liked the tips! I reached out to Carnival just to make sure that nothing has changed. They told me that yes, the Cheers! package is available on European itineraries. I believe that at one point the package couldn't be sold in Europe, so you may have read an article somewhere with that older information. Happy cruising!

Jen, it definitely is! Most cruise lines also sell a similar package (Disney Cruise Line is one of the majors that doesn't). Also, many luxury cruise lines include cocktails, wine and beer in the cruise fare. (My post Which Cruise Lines Are All-Inclusive? covers which luxury lines do and don't include alcohol.) Packages are a great way to save some money and remove the stress of a bar bill at the end of your vacation.

Carnival Cruise Drink Packages

Carnival Cruise Line offers a simple choice between two drink packages.

Carnival’s straightforward approach to its beverage packages makes choosing the best package for your needs easy. Choosing a beverage package comes down to whether or not you drink alcohol.

The CHEERS! package is the “all-inclusive drink package” because it includes virtually every drink onboard the ship, up to a $20 value. Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival’s non-alcoholic beverage package.

CHEERS! Beverage Package

Carnival Cruise Drink Packages CHEERS Logo

Carnival Cruise Line’s Cheers! Beverage Package is the cruise line’s “ all-inclusive package, ” offering a range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages for one flat price.

The Cheers! package starts at just  $59.95 per person per day  for each day of your cruise. It’s important to know that there’s an 18% gratuity added when you buy the package.

We recommend purchasing the CHEERS! program in advance of sailing because package prices are higher on the ship. If you wait to buy it once onboard, the price is $64.95 per person per day plus the 18% service charge.

You can pre-purchase the package  until 10:00 pm the night before  you embark on the cruise ship.

Carnival’s CHEERS! beverage package is arguably the  most comprehensive package  you’ll find on mainstream cruises. There are hardly any restrictions on what drinks you can get, and the maximum price per drink is a generous $20—higher than many other cruise lines.

The package covers almost every drink from the  Carnival drink menu .

Colorful Holiday Cocktails On Cruise Ship

One important thing to mention is that Carnival has a policy limiting the number of alcoholic beverages you can buy. The limit is  15 alcoholic drinks in a 24-hour period , from 6 am to 6 am.

While this restriction has raised a few eyebrows among some passengers, in our experience, it’s rarely an issue. The majority of people never come close to the 15-drink limit.

According to  Carnival’s website , Carnival’s CHEERS! beverage package includes the following:

  • Soft drinks
  • Spirits & cocktails
  • Zero-proof frozen cocktails
  • Wine by the glass
  • Energy drinks
  • Specialty coffee and tea
  • Bottles of water
  • Milkshakes (where available)
  • 25% discount on spirit or wine by the glass above $20.00
  • 25% discount on wine and champagne bottles
  • 25% discount on beverage seminars and classes

Although the Carnival CHEERS! drink package is very inclusive, but there are some restrictions. For example, the drink package doesn’t include minibar or  room service  purchases.

The CHEERS! package doesn’t include the following:

  • Beverages promoted and sold in souvenir glasses
  • Bottles of liquor
  • Drinks offered on the gangway
  • Beverages purchased through room service, minibars, or in-stateroom beverage programs
  • Sharing cocktails, pitchers, buckets, floaters, and tubes
  • Self-serve wine from the Enomatic wine machines
  • All other beverage-related programs, including merchandise, cigars, and cigarettes
  • Drinks purchased at port or private islands, including Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay

To purchase the drink package for your next Carnival cruise, visit:  https://www.carnival.com/drink-packages/cheers-package/cheers-SUM

If your cruise embarks from Texas or New York, it’s important to know that state laws prevent you from using your drink package on the first day of your itinerary.

Instead, any beverages you buy on the first day are billed to your onboard account. Your Cheers package becomes active at 6 am on the second day of your itinerary.

But don’t worry.

You’re not charged for the package on the first day. So, despite the little delay, you still get full value for your purchase.

Bottomless Bubbles

Carnival Cruise Drink Packages Bottomless Bubbles Logo

With Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles drink package, you can indulge in  unlimited soda and juice  for the entire length of your cruise.

Bottomless Bubbles is just $6.95 per day for kids and $9.50 per day for adults. Remember that an 18% service charge is added at the time of purchase.

However, there are a few things this package doesn’t cover. The unlimited soda package doesn’t include bottled water, hot drinks, room service, mini bar beverages, drinks offered at the gangway, or alcoholic drinks. But with the amount of soda and juice you can enjoy, you’ll find it provides great value and convenience.

Carnival Drink Prices

When deciding whether or not to purchase the drink package, it is a good idea to calculate how much you would be spending if you bought the individual drinks rather than the package.

Knowing the prices before you cruise can help you decide if purchasing a drink package makes financial sense. If you spend less money buying individual drinks, the package might not be worth it for you.

Here are the average prices for drinks on a Carnival cruise:

Carnival Cruise Line provides a variety of complimentary beverages, including:

  • Coffee (regular or decaffeinated)
  • Hot chocolate
  • Chocolate Milk
  • Milk (regular or skim)

How to Get a Discount on the Drink Package

Bartender preparing four drinks at Carnival Cruise Line's Alchemy Bar

Carnival’s drink packages rarely, if ever, go on sale. We’re not saying they won’t ever go on sale in the future, but we’ve never seen them sell at a discount.

We recommend purchasing the package before your cruise begins because the price of the package is higher when purchased on the cruise ship.

You save 10% when you pre-purchase the package. The savings add up to more than $50 over a week-long cruise.

You can pre-purchase the beverage package up to 10:00 pm the day before embarkation and take advantage of the savings.

Are Carnival’s Drinks Packages Worth It?

Cocktails On A Cruise Ship In The Summer

Generally speaking, the CHEERS! drink package is worth the price if you consume six or more drinks per day.

However, the exact number depends on the cost of the drinks you order.

If you’re considering purchasing a drink package, it’s best to do the math to make sure it makes financial sense. For most passengers, we think you’ll actually spend less money when you purchase individual drinks.

One often-forgotten consideration is whether you will be getting off the ship at ports of call.

While exploring the port, you won’t be visiting the poolside bar to purchase drinks throughout the day, but you will still be paying for the drink package. And you can’t use the drink package at ports of call.

Additionally, if one person purchases the drink package, all adults sharing a cabin must purchase the same plan.

So, while the drink package might be worth it for you, you’ll need to consider the drinking habits of your travel companions.

Before purchasing the drink package, you’ll also want to consider how many drinks you’ll have each day and how much time you will spend on the ship.

Carnival Drink Package FAQs

Is there a daily limit of how many drinks you can order.

Yes. Carnival allows passengers to purchase up to 15 alcoholic drinks in a 24-hour period (from 6:00 am to 6:00 am). The limit only applies to alcoholic beverages. So feel free to indulge in unlimited juice and soda.

How Many Drinks Can You Buy at One Time?

You can order only one drink at a time when using your beverage package. The restriction will likely prevent passengers from sharing the drinks package with other guests, which is against Carnivals’ terms of use.

Can the Drink Packages be Used at Carnival’s Private Islands?

No, passengers cannot use Carnival’s drink packages at either of their private islands ; Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay. Any drinks purchased at the private islands are charged back to your Sail & Sign card.

Does Carnival Have a Specialty Coffee Package?

Carnival does not offer a Specialty Coffee Package. The CHEERS! drink package includes specialty coffees. You can purchase specialty coffees individually if you don’t have the CHEERS! package. Regular coffee and hot tea are free and can be found in the main dining room, buffet, or room service.

Does Bottomless Bubbles Include Coffee?

Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles drink package does not include specialty coffee. Regular drip coffee is complimentary on Carnival Cruise Line.

Do I Have to Buy the Drink Package for the Entire Cruise?

Yes, you must purchase the drinks package for the entire cruise. You cannot buy the package for individual days.

The only exemption to this policy is for Carnival cruises that depart from New York or Texas when you aren’t allowed to use the drink package on the first day of the cruise. Sailings departing from Texas and New York have the drink package activated at 6 am on the second day of the cruise.

Can Just One Person Buy the Drink Package?

Carnival’s policy mandates that if one adult purchases the drinks package, all adults sharing the stateroom must purchase the same package.

If one adult in the stateroom cannot drink for medical or religious reasons, you can call Carnival and ask for an exemption. Exemptions aren’t guaranteed, but we have met passengers who didn’t have to purchase the drink package for their travel companion.

Can I Share the Drink Package?

You cannot share either Carnival drink package. Carnival mandates that every adult sharing a cabin must purchase the same drink package to prevent sharing.

If a cruise ship employee catches you sharing the drink package with other passengers, the cruise line will cancel your package without a refund.

Are Wine And Champagne By The Bottle Included In The Drinks Package?

No. Bottles of wine and champagne are not included in the drink package.

But, guests can purchase bottles of wine or champagne at a 25% discount as part of the CHEERS! drink program.

Can I Bring Drinks on a Carnival Cruise?

Each adult can bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne in their carry-on luggage on embarkation day. Further, guests can bring 12 sealed, unopened cans or cartons of non-alcoholic beverages.

You can consume the wine or champagne in your stateroom. But, if you want to drink it at a bar or restaurant, Carnival charges a corkage fee of $15 per bottle.

Can You Get Free Drinks in the Casino?

You can get free drinks in the onboard cruise ship casino when you collect 1500 points while playing. After collecting the required points, you’ll receive a “Drink On Us” card, which allows you to get free drinks while playing.

You earn one casino point for every $2.50 you play on the slot machine.

So, you’ll need to spend $3750 at the Carnival casino to get free drinks. And once you accumulate 5000 points, you’ll also receive a Drink On Us card for your next Carnival cruise vacation.

It’s important to note that you can only use the Drink on Us card while you are actively gambling.

We don’t recommend gambling for the sole purpose of winning “free” drinks. You’ll likely spend more money playing than the cost of the drinks. But the Drink on Us card is a great benefit if you plan on playing.

Do Carnival cruise ships serve Coke or Pepsi?

Carnival cruise ships serve Pepsi and other PepsiCo sodas such as Mountain Dew and Bubly. You won’t find Coke or Coca-cola beverages on a Carnival cruise. Since January 2020, only Pepsi and PepsiCo drinks are available on Carnival.

Is the Carnival CHEERS Package Refundable?

If you opt to purchase the Cheers package before your cruise and then realize you no longer require it, you have the ability to receive a refund up until 9:00 pm on the night prior to the start of your cruise journey.

However, you can’t get a refund for the drink package after the designated time.

Can You Purchase the Drink Package With Onboard Credit?

Yes, you can use your onboard credit on Carnival Cruise Line to purchase either drink package.

We don’t recommend using onboard credit to purchase the drink package because you can only use your onboard credit on the ship. That means you’ll be paying the higher price of the package compared to purchasing it in advance.

Is tea included with bottomless bubbles or cheers?

Regular tea is complimentary for all guests, along with regular drip coffee. But specialty tea costs extra and is included in the CHEERS! drink package but not the Bottomless Bubbles beverage package.

If you use up your 15 drink maximum in the package, can you purchase additional alcoholic beverages at regular price?

Unfortunately, the 15-drink limit applies to all alcoholic beverage purchases regardless of how the drinks are purchased. Whether you purchase the drinks individually or through the CHEERS!beverage package, you may only purchase 15 alcoholic drinks between 6 am and 6 am. You can purchase unlimited non-alcoholic drinks.

If I buy the Cheers drink package, will It be included to have a pot of coffee delivered to my room each morning for my morning coffee time on the balcony?

Hi Tammy. Regular drip coffee is included in Carnival’s complimentary room service menu. You can order drip coffee during daytime service hours (6 am to 10 am) at no extra charge.

On the cheers package do you get charged for the day you are getting off the ship considering you usually get off in the morning

Hey William. Yes, you will be charged for every day you sail on the cruise, even on days you get off the ship. This is a major consideration when deciding whether or not to purchase the package, as you won’t be getting the full value on those days.

Here’s another article to help you decide if the drink package is worth it , with other considerations you need to consider.

Hi Marcello,

We are planning a trip to Mexico with some friends on the Carnival Breeze scheduled for this fall (2022). I know you are allowed to bring 1 sealed/unopened bottle (750 ml) of wine or champagne per person at embarkation but can you also purchase and bring a bottle of wine from ports of call (Progreso and/or Cozumel) for consumption on the ship? This was not an issue on Norwegian Cruise Line as long as the corkage fee was paid upon re-boarding at ports of call.

BTW – Thank you so much for all the tips you provide to us cruisers, very much appreciated. I always advise friends and family that are new to cruising to make absolutely sure they do their homework because it can be quite an inconvenience and possibly costly if not prepared.

Hi Rick. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to drink any alcohol you bought in port until after your cruise. As per Carnival’s beverage policy, guests 21 and older can bring “at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage.” The cruise line holds any alcohol you bring onto the ship from the port until it is returned to you on disembarkation day. You can read the full policy at the following link under the heading “What is Carnival’s Liquor & Beverage Policy?”: https://www.carnival.com/help#section-1

Thank you so much for the kind words! Victoria and I began this site when we were planning our first post-pandemic cruise. We were so excited to be traveling again that our family became tired of hearing our fun facts and cruise trivia. It is great to hear that we are providing a service to fellow cruise travelers while sharing our love for cruise ship travel!

Hey Marcello, You mention the 15 drink limit from 6am to 6 pm…are you saying the drink package stops at 6pm? So any “nightlife” drinks are not included?

Hi Sean. The drink package has a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks during a 24-hour period from 6:00 am to 6:00 am the next day. The limit only applies to alcoholic beverages.

Hi Marcello, I have contacted Carnival customer service regarding a guest in my stateroom unable to drink due to religious beliefs. I inquired about pre-purchasing the cheers package for myself and another guest in the room and explained the third guest was not able to drink due to her religion. They have stated that they do not have any exemptions for the cheers package. Can you please direct me to whom I need to contact?

Unfortunately, I don’t know of anyone you can contact. I know some friends who’ve been able to get an exemption from the policy and others that weren’t successful. Ultimately, it’s up to the cruise line to decide whether or not they will allow any exemptions to their rules. You could call back again and speak with another member of customer support, but there is no guarantee that they will exempt your friend from purchasing the drink package.

Carnival Cruise Line 2024 Drink Menus and Pricing

In the past, embarking on a cruise meant encountering the same routine selection of beverages across all venues. Your options typically included classics like daiquiris, pina coladas, and, if the menu dared to be bold, perhaps a mojito. Today, the drink landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Cruise ship bars now boast a diverse array of choices, featuring craft beers, premium spirits, and meticulously concocted cocktails. It’s an entirely new experience.

Carnival Cruise Line, in particular, has taken this evolution to heart, revolutionizing its drink offerings with a tailored menu for almost every bar on their ships. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially when considering that a single ship can host between 10 and 15 bars.

Carnival will be increasing drink menu prices in the first part of 2024. The new menus are already in place on the Carnival Jubilee and we expect other ships to follow in January and February.

See a new menu on your ship? Email it to us so we can share with everyone, [email protected]

Below you’ll find the bar menus found on the Carnival Cruise Line’s ships. Carnival has a pretty robust beverage program and usually has different drinks available at nearly every bar on a ship, so you’ll see a ton of drink options below. For drinks offered at multiple venues, the prices are consistent (i.e., a Coors Light and the Atrium Bar will cost the same as a Coors Light at the Pool Bar). When looking at the prices, remember to consider gratuities. Carnival automatically adds an 18% gratuity added to all beverage purchases.

This bar may be confusing because Carnival uses odd naming for their venues. While many ships have “Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ,” few have the actual Smokehouse and Brewhouse, which has cocktails. The Smokehouse/Brewhouse is a sit-down restaurant with a large bar serving some great cocktails. They even have a brewery right inside this bar where they make their own beer! You can find it on the  Carnival Celebration ,  Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee ,  Carnival Mardi Gras , and  Carnival Panorama .

If you’re a beer fan, I highly recommend the Brewery Tour for $30 a person. You can read more about the Carnival Pig & Anchor Brewery Tour here .

The only discount for everyone is 10% off for pre-purchase online.

The Cheers fare code is only available to those with the RU1, RU2, or RU3 offering in their VIFP account online under Today's Deals.

The other option is those with casino offers with Drinks On Us, while playing in the casino, or sometimes Everywhere On The Ship. These may be for named guest only or both guests, depending on offer.

Yep, you'll need to log into your Carnival account from time to time and see what offers/rates are available for you.  I've been lucky enough to get RU1 rate codes a couple of times, since I only ever have a couple of drinks per day Carnival didn't lose much on that.

Carnival Cruise Line makes key beverage package change

When you board a cruise ship, you lose the ability to pop by a store and buy anything you might be missing.

That can be frustrating if you forget your over-the-counter allergy medicine or your favorite shampoo. To a certain extent those items are sold on board, at fairly hefty markups. The selection varies heavily by not just cruise line but by cruise ship.

Some Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships, for example, have a selection of vending machines that offer a wider array of products ranging from sunblock and moisturizer to toiletries and feminine hygiene products.

Related: Carnival Cruise Line risks a Bud Light-style backlash

Many ships, however, operate outlets more like hotel gift shops, where a small area is dedicated to a limited array of products. You might be able to buy a razor or a toothbrush, but you will have only one choice.

You might be able to find what you need in port, but you face many restrictions regarding what you can bring on board. In some cases, like alcohol, soda and bottled water, cruise lines have very strict rules about what you can bring on board.

Carnival and Royal Caribbean have similar policies.

"On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage," Carnival says on its website. "A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12-ounces/354-ml each or less, per person."

Carnival wants to sell you more

Carnival and Royal Caribbean make roughly as much money from onboard and presail purchases as they do from ticket sales. Onboard beverage sales are a big piece of that. In addition to being able to bring the boxed or canned beverages listed above, Carnival (and Royal Caribbean) have one other exception:

"At the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage," Carnival added.

"Outside this exception, all liquor, beer, and other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided."

Both cruise lines provide water, basic coffee, and tea, as well as some flavored waters in various onboard locations. Passengers who want bottled water, however, will have to pay for it.

You can buy bottles as you need at the many bars onboard or you can preorder water to your cabin.

Carnival has recently angered some passengers by raising the price of its in-cabin water packages that are booked precruise.

Carnival water prices are rising

The cruise line offers a 12-pack of bottled water (16.9-ounce bottle/500-ml bottle) for $14.95.

"This is the third price increase on this popular beverage product since November 2022,"  Cruise Hive reports. "Initially, the 12-pack was $4.95 ($0.42 per bottle), but at that time, it was doubled to $9.95 ($0.83 per bottle). Then, in December 2023, the price was increased again, to $11.95 per 12-pack (a drop under $1 per bottle)."

Royal Caribbean has a similar package that's almost twice the water, as it offers 12  one-liter (33.8 oz.) bottles of Evian for $30.99. That's roughly comparable to Carnival's cost on an ounce-by-ounce basis.

Both cruise lines also sell bottled water at every bar on the ship with 16.9-ounce bottles selling for $2.50 to $3.50 apiece (prices and brands available can vary).

Both cruise lines also add an 18% charge (which Carnival calls a delivery fee and Royal Caribbean calls a gratuity), as they do on all beverages and beverage packages.

Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald addressed the water-price increase and the customer pushback it created in a recent video blog.

"So, I've had about a thousand comments about water. I'm not going to say too much, we've increased the price," he said. "Some of you understand, some of you don't."

Heald said he'd collected all the comments and sent them to the appropriate people at the cruise line.

"I don't really have anything else to say on that specifically. It's still far more affordable than airports and hotels and resorts and theme parks," he added. "I'm glad to be here to be vented at and I certainly have been."

Not everyone has been nice.

"One lady, a lady, told me to take a bottle of water and shove it up my, well, you know where," he said.
