Lumina Imaging and Siemens Healthineers Form Strategic Partnership to Expand Outpatient Imaging

LuminaSiemens

Lumina Imaging , a network of consumer-centric imaging centers, and Siemens Healthineers , a global leader in medical technology, have formed a long-term strategic Value Partnership 1 that will help scale Lumina’s innovative model across the country.

The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio, created Lumina to answer this simple question: Why are MRI and CT scans so expensive and difficult to schedule? Lumina offers hospital-quality imaging services with an exceptional consumer experience at a fraction of the cost of those offered in hospital settings.

This Value Partnership will provide the technology backbone that will allow Lumina to scale its operating model and brand through both corporate-owned sites and franchise sites with health systems throughout Ohio and beyond looking to offer new options for outpatient imaging in their markets.

“We know what we have created in Lumina is special. It provides value to the patient, the referring provider and the payor. Now with this partnership we can rapidly scale this model,” said Julie Jacono, MetroHealth’s Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer. “As a health system, we knew that the best way to transform care is through partnerships with trusted health systems. The franchise model enables health systems, like MetroHealth, to have a turn-key solution for retail imaging in their markets, backed by Siemens Healthineers, which is synonymous with quality throughout the world.”

Under the agreement, Siemens Healthineers will be the exclusive provider of MRI and CT equipment in all future Lumina sites, deploying the latest technology and service to support Lumina’s patient-focused mission. This strategic partnership represents a shared vision for meeting the cost and workforce pressures of the future by radically innovating through technology and best-in-class operations.

“Our relationship with Lumina is an important step in providing all patients with equitable access to care. By shifting routine imaging services to community outpatient settings, we can provide more patients with more convenient access to the high-quality, cost-effective care they need to live longer, healthier lives, no matter where they are.” said David Pacitti, President of Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. and Head of the Americas, Siemens Healthineers.

Lumina currently operates Ohio locations in Mentor, Medina and Solon. A fourth location in Westlake is opening in May 2023.

For more information about Lumina, visit www.luminaimaging.com .

1 Value Partnership  is an enterprise service offering from Siemens Healthineers. The term “Value Partnership” does not imply, create, and/or establish a legal partnership or joint venture between Siemens Healthineers and MetroHealth System.

Founded in 1837, MetroHealth is leading the way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching, discovery, and teamwork. Cuyahoga County’s public, safety-net hospital system, MetroHealth meets people where they are, providing care through five hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers. Each day, our nearly 9,000 employees focus on providing our community with equitable healthcare — through patient-focused research, access to care, and support services — that seeks to eradicate health disparities rooted in systematic barriers. Queensland’s new state-of-the-art research & innovation centre

NEWS - 07 Dec 2023

Estimated 4 minute read

Introducing RDX Lumina

The $154 million life sciences research excellence of centre, ‘RDX Lumina’ celebrated its official sod-turning ceremony in May 2023, and is currently on track for completion in 2025.

RDX Lumina is a state-of-the-art development led by developer Northwest Healthcare Properties on behalf of Vital Healthcare, that will house best-in-class medical research, training, and clinical facilities, including NeuTex’s world-first Image-Guided Therapy Surgical and Robotics Training Centre.

Dedicated to advancing medical research and training

When complete, the RDX building is proposed to support radiology and interventional cardiology innovation, specialised rehabilitation clinical services, and a Phase 1a human clinical trials unit.

The building is designed to accommodate a range of uses including specialised laboratories.

For medical and health-tech professionals, RDX will offer unique training opportunities. Outside of traditional hospital settings, RDX aims to attract the best minds in the industry and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.

A modern, world-class design in a collaborative setting

The architecturally designed building will also provide high-quality specialist medical consulting suites and collaboration spaces, catering for partial and whole floor uses with tenancies ranging from 100 sqm to 2,000 sqm.

It is situated in a prime position, close to health leaders Gold Coast University Hospital, and Griffith University, and boasts a proposed bridge link to the Gold Coast Private Hospital.

Northwest Vice President – Leasing, Georgie Huxley, said the opportunities offered by precinct co-location with RDX Lumina are invaluable.

“Our specialisation is in developing market-leading facilities and precincts that bring together the best medical expertise, technology and education opportunities across health and life sciences,” she said. Our focus for RDX has been to develop an ultra-modern, functional, and most importantly, sustainable, building that will appeal to best-in-class tenants across research, virtual care, robotics, medical technology and other health, education and research-related fields.” – Georgie Huxley, Vice President Leasing, Northwest Healthcare Properties

World-first training centre

RDX will house the world-first NeuTex Image-Guided Therapy Surgical and Robotics Training Centre, a bespoke training centre for Asia-Pacific specialists to study and pioneer precision treatments for stroke, cancer, cardiovascular disease and spinal injuries.

NeuTex feature Philips’ multi-million dollar Azurion biplane interventional neurosurgery platform technology and is led by nationally recognised Doctors Hal Rice and Laetitia de Villiers.

“This dedicated facility will have the latest equipment and space to accommodate larger groups of training doctors, without impacting patient care in a busy hospital environment. We’ll be able to revolutionise training and look to a future where AI and robotics will enable remote procedures, virtually anywhere in the world.” – Dr Hal Rice

Growing global demand for spaces like RDX Lumina

New developments like RDX Lumina support the growing demand for medical research lab and office space as the life sciences industry across the Asia-Pacific region continues its upwards trajectory.

Lumina is registering healthy demand for medical offices from domestic and international life sciences leaders. For example, Phenox – a leading global innovator in interventional neuroradiology – has secured two offices at Cohort Innovation Space within Lumina to serve as their Australian HQ as they expand in the Asia-Pacific market.

Lease opportunities are ready to secure today, move in by 2025

Once complete, RDX Lumina will embody sustainable and resilient principles while delivering cutting-edge healthcare solutions, following a design to achieve a 6-Star Green Star rating.

Its completion will mark another crucial step in positioning the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct as a leading hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

Catawba Valley Medical Center

Magnetom Lumina 3T MRI Now Available at Catawba Valley Medical Center

Quicker, Clearer Imaging Is Both a Patient and Physician Satisfier

Advanced MRI is empowering physicians and improving the patient experience at Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC).

“MAGNETOM Lumina 3T MRI represents a dramatic leap forward in MRI technology, and exemplifies our commitment to excellence,” said Rick Bare, CVMC director of specialty imaging. “Because of this unique and powerful imaging equipment, people of the Catawba Valley region don’t have to travel to have the most advanced technology available for their treatment.”

The new MRI technology is the first of its kind in the Unifour region, comprising Catawba, Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander counties. The new MRI operates within CVMC’s Imaging Center on Tate Boulevard in Hickory.

The system brings groundbreaking BioMatrix Technology to CVMC. This new technology accommodates patients’ anatomical and physiological differences, as well as technologist differences. This decreases the need for rescans and increases scan consistency across a diverse patient population.

The 70-cm MAGNETOM Lumina 3T MRI includes a new magnet design and gradient performance to support high-end clinical applications. Its BioMatrix Technology – a collection of sensors, tuners, and interfaces – enables the scanner to adapt automatically to anatomical and physiological characteristics to provide consistent, high-quality imaging for all patient types.

The scanner’s architecture and innovative applications simplify and accelerate workflows while increasing exam precision and patient comfort. Its GO Technologies automate and simplify workflows from the start of the scan through quality control of the image data, resulting in increased productivity for routine examinations throughout the body.

Bare added, “By taking automation and personalization to the next level, our new MRI scanner virtually eliminates patient and user variability. That’s been amazing. Today, we have consistent, high-quality images across all our patients and procedures. The result of all this is fast, precise, and consistent results – and a better patient experience for all.”

What can you do at Moscow City?

  • Dine in style: Moscow City is home to 100+ cafes and restaurants, including Europe’s highest restaurant and ice-cream shop
  • See Moscow like never before: Ascend to one of Moscow City’s observation decks for an unparalleled panorama of Moscow

Moscow City is a multifunctional complex in the west of Moscow, which has come to represent the booming business of Russia’s capital. Its skyscrapers enrich Moscow’s skyline, contrasting the medieval cupolas and Stalinist high-rises. Visitors to Moscow City can enjoy entertainment high in the sky, as the complex is home not just to offices, but to restaurants, cinemas, viewing platforms, and museums.

Moscow International Business Center (Moscow City)

History of Moscow City

Moscow City was first conceived in 1991 by honoured Soviet architect Boris Tkhor, who proposed to construct a business center in Moscow. It would be complete with gleaming skyscrapers rivalling those of New York and London, to reflect the new life and growing ambitions of post-Soviet Russia.

The chosen site was a stone quarry and disused industrial zone in western Moscow, in between the Third Ring Road and Moskva River. Initially, the territory was divided into 20 sections arranged in a horseshoe shape around a central zone. The skyscrapers would increase in height as they spiralled around the central section, with shorter structures built on the waterfront to give the taller buildings behind a view of the river.

Architect Gennady Sirota, who contributed to iconic projects such as the Olympic Sports Complex on Prospekt Mira, was selected as the chief architect, and many other world-famous architects were attracted to Moscow to realise their visions in Moscow City.

What can you see and do at Moscow City?

Where Moscow’s cityscape was once dominated by Stalin’s Seven Sisters skyscrapers , this is no more. Moscow City is home to eight of Russia’s ten tallest buildings, six of which exceed 300 metres in height. More buildings are still under construction there today, including the One Tower (which will be Europe’s second-tallest building). Once completed, Moscow City will comprise more than 20 innovative structures.

Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers was designed by its own architect, lending the cluster of skyscrapers a unique appearance. Aside from being a site of architectural wonder, Moscow City is a place for leisure and entertainment with over 100 cafes and restaurants, exhibition spaces, cinemas, viewing platforms, and more.

Federation Tower

  • East Tower: 374m, 97 floors; West Tower: 243m, 63 floors
  • Completed in 2017
  • Architects: Sergey Tchoban and Peter Schweger

The East Federation Tower is the tallest building in Moscow, and the second-tallest building in Europe after the Lakhta Centre in St Petersburg. Visitors can enjoy a luxurious meal of seafood, truffles or steak at restaurant ‘Sixty’ on the 62nd floor of the West Tower, or visit Europe’s highest observation deck, ‘Panorama 360’, on the 89th floor of the East Tower.

Did you know? The ice cream and chocolate shop on the 360 observation deck are the highest in the world!

  • South Tower: 354m, 85 floors; North Tower: 254m, 49 floors
  • Completed in 2015
  • Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP

The South OKO Tower is the third-tallest building in Russia and Europe. Here, you can visit ‘Ruski’ to dine on hearty Russian cuisine cooked on a real Russian stove, and have a drink in the ice bar. Alternatively, visit restaurant, nightclub and performance space ‘Birds’; the restaurant is the highest in Europe, situated on the 86th floor roof terrace alongside an observation deck. The OKO Towers are also home to karaoke club ‘City Voice’.

Did you know? Underneath OKO Towers is the largest underground parking in Europe, with 16 levels and 3,400 parking spaces.

Mercury Tower

  • 339m tall, 75 floors
  • Architects : Mikhail Posokhin, Frank Williams, Gennady Sirota

Another multifunctional skyscraper, which was designed as the first truly ‘green’ building in Moscow. The Mercury Tower has a distinct geometric shape and copper-coloured glazing, and was the tallest building in Europe upon completion. Visit ‘More i myaso’ (Sea and meat) on the first floor of the tower to enjoy European and Mediterranean cuisine whilst surrounded by greenery. On the 2nd and 40th floors a modern art gallery, the ‘ILONA-K artspace’, has just opened.

City of Capitals

  • Moscow Tower: 302m, 76 floors; St Petersburg Tower: 257m, 65 floors
  • Completed in 2009

The unique geometric design of the City of Capitals towers resembles stacks of rotating blocks, and is rooted in Constructivism of the early Soviet period (many Soviet Constructivist buildings can be found in Moscow). Visitors to the Moscow Tower can enjoy a range of cuisines – traditional Italian dishes on the summer terrace of ‘Tutto Bene’, Panasian cuisine in the tropical luxury of the ‘Bamboo Bar’ on the 1st floor’, and poke or smoothie bowls at ‘Soul in the Bowl’ cafe on the 80th floor.

Tower on the Embankment

  • Tower A: 84m; Tower B:127m; Tower C: 268m, 61 floors
  • Completed in 2007
  • Architects: Vehbi Inan and Olcay Erturk

After completion, the Tower on the Embankment was the tallest building in Europe, and is now the 13th tallest. It houses the headquarters of several large Russian and international  companies, including IBM and KPMG. There are two cafes located on the 1st floor of Tower C – self-service café ‘Obed Bufet’ (Lunch Buffet) and Bakery Chain ‘Khleb Nasushchny’ (Daily Bread).

Evolution Tower

  • 255m tall, 54 floors
  • Architects: Philip Nikandrov and RMJM Scotland Ltd

Evolution is Moscow City’s most recognisable tower, and the 11th tallest building in Russia. Its façade is a true architectural marvel, comprising continuous strips of curved glazing spiralling high into  the sky. According to the architect, Philip Nikandrov, the spiral shape of the tower honours centuries of architectural design in Russia, from the onion domes of St Basil's Cathedral to Vladimir Shukhov’s Tatlin Tower, a masterpiece of Constructivist design. Outside the Evolution tower is a landscaped terrace and pedestrian zone descending to the Presnenskaya Embankment, which was also designed by Nikandrov.

Did you know? Moscow’s largest wedding palace was supposed to be built on the site of the Evolution tower, though the project was abandoned.

  • 239m tall, 60 floors
  • Completed in 2011

Imperia’s interesting design has a curved roof and an arched glass façade. Inside the tower are various cafes including ‘City Friends’ for all-day breakfasts and light lunches, ‘Mama in the City’ for simple meals of Russian cuisine, and ‘abc kitchen’ for European and Indian-inspired dishes. Alternatively, visit ‘High Bar’ on the 56th floor for cocktails with a view. In Imperia you’ll also find the Museum of High-Rise Construction in Moscow (suitably located on the 56th floor), and the Camera Immersive Theatre.

Did you know? Inside Vystavochnaya metro station is the Metro Museum , dedicated to the history of the beautiful Moscow Metro!

  • 130m tall, 26 floors
  • Completed in 2001
  • Architect: Boris Tkhor

Tower 2000 was Moscow City’s first tower. It stands on the opposite bank of the Moskva River, and houses a viewing platform from which visitors can admire an unparalleled panorama of Moscow City. The Bagration Bridge reaches across the river from the tower to Moscow City, and underneath are piers from where you can take boat trips.

Afimall is Moscow’s largest entertainment and shopping complex, home to 450 shops, cafes and restaurants, a cinema, and a virtual-reality game park. The shopping centre is located in the central section of Moscow City, and a cinema and concert hall are currently under construction there.

What’s nearby?

Sechenov Botanical Gardens: The botanical gardens of the First Moscow State Medical University was created for students’ training and research in 1946. Today it is open for free visits, and is home to a large arboretum.

Park Krasnaya Presnya: This park belonged to the Studenets estate of the Gagarin princes. It is a monument of 18th and 19th century landscaping, with Dutch ponds, ornate bridges, and tree-lined alleys. There are also sports facilities, sports equipment rental, and cafes.

Lumina provides outstanding child neurology, psychiatry and psychology, endocrinology and clinical genetics services. Lumina also offers on-site electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring to support diagnostics and treatment planning.

The specialist physicians and healthcare professionals working through Lumina have completed years – sometimes decades – of specialist and subspecialist training and clinical experience.

Specialists at Lumina

Frequently asked questions.

To obtain the correct Medicare support for your visit, you will need a referral from your paediatrician or GP. We review referrals before booking an appointment and may refer you to a hospital if your child will need to be seen there. There may be tests or treatment that can only be obtained through the hospital.

For more information, visit our New Patients page here.

Doctors wishing to refer patients to Lumina can access more information about referrals here.

Visits are by appointment only, and usually require a referral from your Paediatrician or GP. Referral letters from a GP last 12 months. If you are hoping to see a particular doctor, please be aware that you may be able to see a different doctor much sooner. We will let you know the options where we think we can provide an earlier visit.

Initial visits are longer to allow for comprehensive review of your child’s history, your family and social background, and to undertake examination of your child’s health and wellbeing.

If you are unable to make an appointment let us know as soon as possible. Please don’t expect a quick rebooking as the doctor’s calendar may be full, and other people may have been waiting for some time.

If you cancel an appointment within 48 hours, we may invoice you for the missed visit if we’re unable to rebook someone into your appointment time.

Please speak with our team before your visit to ensure you’re clear about the fees to be paid. Payment is expected at the time of your visit.

Healthcare practitioners attending Lumina set their own fees. These reflect:

  • The training and professional experience required to attain their qualifications
  • The time required outside of appointments to assess, refer and complete paperwork relating to your case
  • The costs of retaining their professional qualifications, and costs associated with maintaining their clinical practice

Initial visits are longer to allow for comprehensive review of your child’s history and current health and wellbeing, and to develop a treatment plan and share it with your GP or paediatrician. Medicare rebates are higher for these visits, but you may have a higher out-of-pocket cost for your initial visit.

Your doctor will book a longer visit each year to allow time for a full review of your child’s health. This may also be required to support PBS reimbursement of some medications, and/or to reorder and review necessary testing.

We will work to identify and obtain the appropriate Medicare rebate for each visit.

You will need to pay the full fee at the time of your visit and we will process your Medicare rebate. You should receive the rebate back to your nominated bank account. If you do not receive your rebate, please contact Medicare.

When your child turns 18 you may need to contact Medicare for your rebate and to update payment details.

Your doctor will set your fee and specify how they prefer payment. Lumina’s payment terminal supports Visa and Mastercard. Credit card fees may differ between cards.

We do not accept cash for security and sanitary reasons.

Unfortunately, most health funds do not cover private specialist visits. Call your private health insurer before visiting to check.

The government provides a website with more information about private health insurance: https://privatehealth.gov.au/health_insurance/what_is_covered/privatehealth.htm

The Australian Medical Association also has a brochure on the gap between Medicare rebates and doctor’s fees: https://feeslist.ama.com.au/file/download/fees-gaps-poster-2022.pdf

Please ask your referring doctor to forward any letters or test results that may assist with your first visit.

Your doctor may wish to undertake an EEG (electroencephalogram) to understand your child’s brain activity. There are additional fees for this, but also Medicare rebates to help with the cost.

Complex testing – such as genetic testing or MRI scans – may need to be referred to other clinics or laboratories and additional costs may apply. Please discuss this with your doctor.

There is a pathology clinic and a pharmacy in the same building as Lumina, but you may prefer to visit facilities closer to home.

Second opinions can play an important role in helping address your concerns about a diagnosis or course of treatment. We will always be happy to help you with seeking a second opinion.

Please be aware that a second opinion at any private clinic will require a new consult and you may incur the higher costs associated with a long initial visit.

As a mixed clinical practice, we will endeavour to provide you with quick access to other relevant specialties within Lumina. You have the right to seek referral to another clinic or practitioner for your needs.

At present, Lumina does not participate in clinical trials. Doctors providing services at Lumina may be aware of clinical trials that you can access or trials that you can access elsewhere, but this is not a core part of the service that we provide.

Medical practitioners providing services through Lumina are aware of and value the range of treatment methods that people can access to be well. It’s very important that you’re transparent with your doctor or healthcare provider about other treatments or practices to ensure the best treatment and outcomes for your child.

For ad hoc forms or letters completed outside of your regular consults, fees will usually apply. These fees are set by the medical provider and will reflect the time required to complete and share the document, including reviewing your notes, any research needed, and conferring with other parties that may be required to complete the form or letter.

In the first instance, please have an open and respectful conversation with your doctor or healthcare provider. They want the best for your child and may be balancing a range of needs and priorities to get the best outcome. They will prioritise the welfare of your child over other priorities.

Where you disagree with a course of action, make sure you’ve had a full discussion with your doctor to understand their decisions. Please respect that the doctor will make their decisions based on their training, experience, and the regulations and requirements about accessing treatment.

If you still feel you have not been heard, please ask your doctor about obtaining a second opinion, or to refer you to clinic management about your child’s care.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.
