Tips for Visiting the Colosseum

• Wear comfortable shoes! Not only will you walk during the tour but the ground outside the Colosseum is made of large and small cobblestones which can be slippery or uneven.

My wife is claustrophobic – what areas of the tour would you recommend to stay away from – e.g. underground?

Ciao Wally! The Colosseum Underground might not be the best option for you guys. I recommend the Colosseum Arena Floor tour , this way you’re only in wide-open spaces.

Thanks Kayla. If we were to book 3 underground tours, is the Underground portion first, last or in between? We thought we could let my wife skip the Underground portion, but meet us for the rest of the tour. Is this even possible to coordinate?

I am planning an analog photography trip to Rome/Italy in October. My daughter, who currently lives in Rome, says that they pass bags through an x-ray scanner when you visit museums. Since I will be carrying film and a film camera, I would like to know whether they will hand check my film and camera instead of sending it through the scanner if I request it.

X-rays will damage film, especially if it is is done repeatedly. I am buying all my film in Italy and developing it there specifically to avoid having to have it x-rayed at airports.

Hi Dave! Thanks for reading our blog. I can’t say that we have a definite answer on this one. You can definitely ask them to hand check your bags, but we guarantee that they will. We recommend using a digital camera to take pictures inside of the Colosseum to avoid this issue. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. I will be carrying a film camera, not digital. I have decided to carry limited film with me on each day’s excursion and log how many times each film is x-rayed so I can keep the x-ray passes to a minimum which will hopefully not be enough to damage the film. I will be buying and developing the film in Italy, so it will not be exposed to x-rays by the airlines.

The visit then continues to the Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. After a quick break, the tour continues to a 1.5 – hour tour of the Colosseum, including the arena floor. Vatican and Colosseum tours | With a fast track entry, you will be spending a brief time to queue up for security and then head straight in to start your tour. • There is a lot of walking, so please wear comfortable shoes as the ground can be rather uneven at the Colosseum.
• You will be asked to pass through airport-style security checks at the entrance of the Colosseum, so please only carry a light backpack as many items are restricted (pointed umbrellas, large suitcases, and big backpacks, weapons, firearms, knives). You can only bring in an empty water bottle into the Colosseum. You will be able to fill your water bottle with the many fountains available inside.
• There is a dress code to the Vatican which applies to children too. Shoulders and knees must be covered.
• Sometimes Sistine Chaple and Saint Peter Basilica can be closed without notice.
• The Vatican Museums get rather busy during summer and after a bank holiday.

See how the other half lived at Nero’s Domus Aurea and not far away, a hidden gem of a Roman apartment - Case Romane del Celio with beautiful fresco decoration. St Peter’s Basilica is the largest and most famous, but not the most important church in Rome. THE VATICAN MUSEUMS AND SISTINE CHAPEL

The Sistine Chapel with its famous frescoed ceiling by Michelangelo is another must see when in Rome. The Sistine Chapel is inside the Vatican Museums which is essentially a large extended palace lived in by the popes over the centuries. Its halls and galleries represent the combined collection over centuries of priceless ancient artifacts and statues as well as some of the finest renaissance artwork spanning more than 5,000 years of diverse cultural heritage. The personal apartments of Julius II are also a highlight in the museum, known as the Raphael Rooms after their famous decorator.

The Palatine Hill above is where the elite and later the emperors lived. For those interested in all things ancient Roman you should not miss these sites, they are dotted with the remains of temples, basilicas, triumphal arches and palaces. The viewing platform on the top of the palatine hill has a breathtaking view of the area. Both of these sites are included in the ticket for the colosseum and are often included in guided tours. Galitsky Park in Krasnodar

Galitsky Park was created before the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Krasnodar was one of the cities that hosted the World Cup. Simultaneously with the construction of a football stadium, entrepreneur Sergey Galitsky created a luxury Park nearby at his own expense. It can be recognized as one of the best in Russia. 

Officially, the Park is called "Krasnodar Football club Park", however, among the people, the Park is more often called by the name of its Creator – "Galitsky Park". Perhaps this name will become official one day. The area of Galitsky Park is 23 hectares. 13 hectares of the park are planted with trees. All the trees are planted so that in autumn the Park is beautifully painted with different colors. Entrance to the Park is free for visitors at any time of the day. 

The landscape design of the Park is unique for Russia. It is absolutely possible to say that the aesthetic pleasure of visiting it is no less than from the parks of the Imperial Palace complexes in Peterhof and Tsarskoye Selo. Galitsky Park reflects the current trends in Park architecture; it symbolizes a comfortable living environment in a large metropolis of the 21st century. 

The football stadium is very organically integrated into the concept of the Park. Visually, it resembles the Roman Colosseum in the heyday of the Roman Empire. There is a spiral hill here. Next to it is a circular pool, between them are laid paths planted with exotic shrubs and plants. The Park also has a circular amphitheater. There is a lot of water in the Park: various channels, reservoirs, fountains and even waterfalls. The Park looks very beautiful from a bird`s eye view, but on the ground there is a lot of beauty everywhere. Trees and shrubs are planted at different levels, which create a volume effect. 

Galitsky Park has zones for active sports, areas for skateboarding, scooters, bicycles and roller skates, including ramps for extreme skiing. There is also a climbing wall and facilities for entertaining young children. In winter, an ice rink with artificial ice opens.
