Planning a Disney vacation can be expensive, especially if you’re looking to spend your nights at a Disney resort. Between park tickets, room rates, food and souvenirs, costs can really add up.

Being thoughtful about your approach to budgeting and financing a vacation is a smart money move, and you have options when it comes to paying for your trip. If you book a Walt Disney World vacation package, including at least accommodations and park tickets, you may be eligible to pay for the package in installments.

What’s included with a Disney trip payment plan?

There are plenty of advantages to staying at a Disney resort, including early entry to the theme parks and advance access to restaurant reservations. However, there is an additional advantage to booking these packages directly with Disney.

Unlike third-party websites, which can require you to pay in full upfront (or at the check-in desk), Disney allows customers to book and pay for vacations over time. This is true whether you’re purchasing just a room or a room and theme park tickets.

The best part: There is no interest charged when paying over time.

Unlike a credit card or loan, this plan acts much like a layaway program. Your reservation is confirmed and will need to be paid before your vacation, but there are no additional costs for making multiple small payments over the months.

When are Disney World vacation payment plans due?

Disney allows guests to book hotels out to the end of its calendar. Final payments for your package need only be made 30 days before your arrival date.

So let’s say you’ve booked a Disney World package payment plan for a stay in December 2024. There’s a $200 deposit required when you make your reservation, but then the total balance won’t be due until November 2024.

In the meantime, you can make as many or as few payments as you want without incurring additional fees. You can also cancel for free up until the deadline.

The fee-free layaway program applies only if you’re making advance bookings. If your trip is in 30 days or fewer, the entire balance will be due upon booking.

This may present an issue for those looking to maximize their Disney World payment plan options or those whose schedules require a lot of notice. Guests will only be able to book extended dates when Disney chooses to open its calendar.

Can you book Disney tickets on a payment plan?

While it’s possible to package a room and theme park tickets on a payment plan, that isn’t the case when just buying park tickets.

If you’re getting tickets to a Disney park via Disney’s website, you’ll need to buy and pay for them at the same time. There’s no layaway plan option unless a room is included.

Other ways to save money at Disney World

Using a Disney payment plan can be a good way to book your vacation without needing to put it on a credit card. However, if you're looking to make your vacation to Disney more affordable, there are a few methods to do so.

Theme park tickets

Disney sells tickets to its parks via its website, of course, but that doesn’t usually feature the best pricing.

Instead, consider buying tickets from a third party. Several sites online sell Disney tickets for a discount; although it’s not a huge difference, the savings can become pretty significant if you’re traveling with multiple people.

Disney offers specially discounted theme park tickets to active-duty members of the military.

Accommodations

As a bustling tourist destination, Orlando, Florida, has a plethora of hotel options. Because of this, nightly rates for hotels can be affordable.

Even in the middle of summer, it’s possible to find properties close to Disney World for less than $60 per night.

While other Disney parks may not have such cheap options, it’s also possible to redeem reward points for your stays.

For example, if you have an eligible Capital One card, such as the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , you can book a Disney hotel and redeem your points against the cost of the stay.

You can also select to redeem hotel rewards from programs such as Marriott , Hilton , Hyatt and IHG .

Flight costs will vary based on your departure point, but frequent flyer programs can help take some of the sting out of traveling. You can find service to Orlando with such carriers as:

Alaska Airlines.

American Airlines.

Delta Air Lines.

Frontier Airlines.

JetBlue Airways.

Southwest Airlines.

Spirit Airlines.

Does Disney Offer a Payment Plan?

Disney World vacations can be expensive, but luckily they offer a payment plan so you don’t have to pay for the entire trip right away.

An initial $200 deposit is required to book a reservation. A Disney travel agent can then set up a payment plan for the remaining balance. 

Let’s take a look at the deposit and payment procedures (layaway) for Disney World vacations.

How Much is the Deposit for a Disney World Vacation?

Guests are able to book their trip well in advance of their travel date.  The actual booking window varies based on when Disney releases each new round of inventory, though it usually opens more than a year in advance. As you book your Disney World vacation package , you’ll be required to pay an upfront deposit.

For all reservations made 31 days or more prior to your arrival, a deposit of $200 per reservation is due right away.

The Walt Disney Travel Co., Inc. (or “Disney”) must receive the deposit within 3 days of booking the reservation. If it’s not received within this timeframe,  the reservation will be canceled automatically.

For those who make their reservations 30 days or less prior to your arrival (NOT RECOMMENDED), the full payment is due at the time the reservation is made. In other words, no deposit is required because you’ll have to pay for the entire trip when you are booking. This is yet another reason to make your reservations well in advance.

If you purchase a travel protection plan, the total cost is due at the same time the plan is requested.

For reservations that involve a runDisney race registration, the total amount of your race registration will be due at the time of booking.

What are Payment Plans for Disney World Vacations?

A lot of people ask, can I pay for a Disney vacation in installments? The answer is yes.

Once you pay the $200 deposit, you’ll be able to pay the remaining of your balance over time (layaway).

As I mentioned before, Disney allows you to book your trip well in advance of your check-in date.  That means you can space out your installment payments well over 12 or more months in most cases. This comes as welcome news to those of us on a budget!

As far as the payment plan itself, guests can create any payment plan that works for them , as long as the installments are paid in increments of $20 or more.

The final payment is due thirty (30) days prior to your check-in at Disney World.

With all this flexibility, you may choose to pay a small portion each week, a larger portion once per month, contribute one or two big chunks of cash at your convenience, or some other combination of payments that works best for you.

So long as you complete all your installments and pay off the balance by the 30-day deadline, then the plan you choose is your call.

One last note: You should never be charged a fee or interest when arranging for a payment plan. Be sure to work with a reputable travel agency that specializes in planning Disney World vacations .

How to Book a Trip to Disney World

Throughout the year, Disney World offers some amazing discounts and special promotions. They typically involve some sort of stay-and-play package (theme park tickets and lodging at a participating Disney hotel resort). Most packages are for specific travel dates, usually during the slower times of the year.

How do you find these deals?  Well, you can periodically check Disney’s own site and try to catch one of those discounts on your own. However, I’d suggest you book with a Disney travel agent instead.

There are just so many reasons to book with a Disney travel agent rather than going it alone.

Disney Travel Agents can set up a Payment Plan

A Disney travel specialist can guide you through every aspect of your trip – from the planning stage to the booking stage. They can make your Advanced Dining Reservations, hotel reservations, transportation arrangements, and even your stroller rentals . Plus, your personalized agent will monitor the new promotions for you and automatically (retroactively) apply the new promotions to your existing reservation.

Surprisingly, the services of most Disney travel agents are 100% free to you . This means that you’ll never pay more than if you had booked the entire trip on your own (via Disney’s website or elsewhere).

And, since it’s the agent’s job to stay on top of the discounts and promotions, then there’s a good chance that the cost of your trip will be less when all is said and done.

Working with an educated Disney travel specialist can make all of the difference, and it makes your life A LOT less stressful.

If you use a Disney specialist, be sure they’ll be able to handle a payment plan. The agency will be responsible for sending your payments directly (and immediately) to Disney. The agent will use your credit card number to book the trip and the payment will then be processed by Disney. No legitimate agency will hold your money. Rather, your payments should go straight to Disney.

There are several ways to use the long booking window for Disney World vacations to our advantage.

Planning a Disney vacation far in advance will give you plenty of time to do your research and create your detailed touring plans.

Remember, when it comes to Disney vacations, the early bird catches the worm. What I mean by that is Disney’s most popular hotels and restaurants are prone to selling out far in advance. Therefore, booking early will allow you to secure the Advanced Dining Reservations and resort of your choice before other people snatch them up.

The nature of the easy payment plan choices offered by Disney allows you to spread out the interest-free payments for your Disney vacation over a period of time.

This layaway program eliminates the need to cough up a bunch of money at once and makes the vacation more doable for many families.

How Much is a Deposit for the Payment Plans for a Disney Vacation Package?

The Disney payment plan works with their Disney World vacation packages or a Disneyland vacation package.

With any payment plan, there’s usually an amount of money due upfront, which is the initial payment.

You’ll pay an initial payment, or deposit, of $200 within three days of booking your vacation package.

This initial deposit, or down payment, “saves” your reservation and is applied toward the total cost.

Then, you make payments leading up to your trip to take care of the full balance. Your final payment will have a due date of 30 days before your vacation.

How Much Time Do I Have to Pay for a Disney Vacation?

You have up until 30 days before your magical vacation to pay off the remaining balance for your vacation.

So if you book a trip 12 months ahead of time, you’ll have 11 months to make payments for the rest of the full amount.

If you only book 4 months in advance, you’ll only have 3 months to make payments.

If you book a trip less than 30 days prior to your arrival, the entire cost will be due at the time of reservation, so you’ll have to make a full payment of the entire balance all at once.

This is out of reach for many families, which is why we advise planning as far in advance as possible.

Are there Interest Charges for Disney Payment Plans?

No, there are no interest charges when you use the Disney World vacation payment plan.

This makes it preferable to using credit cards to pay for your vacation, as most of those will have credit card interest accruing over the course of the payments.

What are the Payment Plan Options for Disney World Vacations?

Because guests can choose the Disney vacation payment plan that works best for them, there are endless payment options you can set up.

You can make as many or as few payments during that time period as you desire, depending on what works for your monthly budget.

Since you can book a trip up to 499 days in advance, you can give yourself as much or as little time as you need.

It’s up to you if you want to make payments every week, every month, or just make one or two lump sum payments leading up to your trip.

Each installment payment does need to be at least $20.

The remaining balance of your Disney World payment plan can be paid over the time leading up to your stay, or you can pay off the balance upon arrival at the resort.

What Happens if You Don’t Pay the Remaining Balance for Your Disney Vacation?

Cancellations made with 30 days or more prior notice result in a full refund for Magic Your Way Vacation Packages (resort stay, theme park tickets, dining plan, etc.). There is a $200 cancellation fee if you cancel between two and 29 days before your scheduled arrival. The remainder of your payment (if it was more than $200) will then be reimbursed. You will be charged for the full vacation if you cancel one day before, the day of, or during it.

Disney maintains the right to void your entire reservation if you have less than 29 days to check in and have not paid the full cost. You will be liable for the $200 cancellation fee, at the very least.

Reservations for resort rooms exclusively are a little different. To receive a full refund for these, you must cancel at least 5 days before the scheduled arrival date. If you stay for fewer than five days, you must pay the minimum room charge of the first night.

I should point out that some third-party services, including those provided by airlines or any customized goods you could have ordered in advance, might not be refundable. To find out the official cancellation policy of that business or service, you would need to contact them.

Does Disney Give Extensions for Final Payments?

If you anticipate difficulty meeting a payment deadline or need to discuss a potential extension, it is recommended to reach out to Disney directly to inquire about their policies and see if any accommodations can be made. BUT BEWARE.

If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. There are a lot of scammy sites out there claiming to have steeply discounted gift cards that are 30% or more off the face value. The truth is, if the site is “legit” it’s likely a shady mix of stolen gift cards that if you actually receive them, they could be wiped empty (electronically) before you get to use them because they were reported. A family vacation to Disney World can cost thousands of dollars. However, by taking advantage of Disney's payment plan, you can tackle vacation costs over several months, helping you to plan a memorable Disney vacation without breaking the bank. 

The fine print of Disney payment plans

You can reserve your resort hotel and ticket with an initial minimal down payment of $200. Disney allows you to reserve a Disney resort out to the end of its availability calendar, so the amount of time you have to pay for your Disney vacation will depend on how far in advance you plan. However, you'll need to pay the entire amount due at least 30 days before your arrival date.

Disney's payment plan is completely flexible. You can choose to pay monthly, weekly, or in a few large sums. It's really up to you. As long as the payment is made in full 30 days prior to arrival, you won't incur any additional costs other than the cost of the travel package. We should mention that you aren't required to purchase theme park tickets in a payment plan package. You can choose to only place the resort on the payment plan. However, there is no payment plan to purchase only theme park tickets.

If something comes up, you can also cancel your trip for free, as long as it's canceled 30 days before the arrival date. If you cancel beyond the 30 days, you'll owe a $200 cancellation fee.

A Disney vacation is a dream come true, but let’s face it – it can be quite an investment. Fortunately, you have a few options when it comes to paying the bill. Here’s how to pay for a Disney vacation and a few tips to help you stay in your budget.

How to Pay for a Disney Vacation Using Payment Plans

From relaxing resorts to world-class cruises and more, Disney destinations have something for every type of traveler. Like all vacations, Disney trips come with a cost that can get pretty high. This is especially true when visiting from out-of-state locations or traveling with large groups .

While Disney doesn’t offer payment official plans, you do have options when it comes to paying the bill!  

While your Key to the World Travel® advisor will help you find the perfect vacation components to stay within your budget, a lot of guests choose to pay for a Disney vacation through a Key to the World Travel® payment plan to help spread out the cost.

Another great option is to create a personal budget that lets you save over time! Plenty of guests begin saving for their Disney vacation months (or even years) in advance by putting away small amounts of money each week.

Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Vacations

Traveling to Disneyland ® or  Walt Disney World ®? You can choose to visit by booking either an individual vacation package or taking advantage of the annual pass programs (more on that later!). When booking vacations through an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner like Key to the World Travel®, guests have the option to pay for their Disney experience in a “layaway style,” rather than requiring the full payment upfront.

Each installment plan will vary, but typically, guests are required to make an initial deposit at the time of booking to secure the reservation. The remaining balance can then be divided into equal monthly payments, with the final payment typically due several weeks before the arrival date.

Disney Cruise Line® Vacations

While Disney Cruise Line ® doesn’t offer set payment plans, either, you do have the flexibility to create your own plan and make payments at your convenience.

Your cruise reservation is confirmed by placing an initial deposit. As long as your trip is paid in full by the appropriate date, you’re good to go!

Most cruise line itineraries can be booked at least one year in advance, so it’s best to grab a stateroom as soon as they’re available if you’d like to make smaller payments over a longer period of time.

Adventures by Disney® Vacations

Just like Disney Cruise Line®, Adventures by Disney ® offers guests the ability to reserve a trip with an initial deposit and then make the remaining payments at their convenience.

Deposit prices will vary by trip, but here’s what you can expect:

• Adventures – 10% of total trip price
• Private Adventures – 20% of total trip price
• Escapes – 10% to 15% of total trip price
• River Cruises – 10% of total trip price
• Expedition Cruises – 15% of total trip price

DID YOU KNOW: Disney World Offers Payment Plans For Disney Vacations

One thing that a lot of families don’t know when they start to plan their Walt Disney World vacation is that Disney offers Payment Plans ! Today, we’re going to share everything you need to know about this awesome perk so you can start booking your vacation ASAP!

Payment Plans For Disney Vacations

A lot of people think that in order to plan or book their Disney World vacation that they need to have all of the funds available – whether in their bank account or on a credit card – at the time of booking. This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Some people call it a “Disney layaway plan”, some people call it a “payment plan.” No matter what you call it, we call it GENIUS!

Disney makes it pretty easy to spread your payments out over a period of time, giving you as long as you need to afford that magical Disney vacation.

The rules and timelines differ slightly depending on if you have booked a full vacation package or just a resort reservation.

Vacation Package

If you have a vacation package, you simply pay a $200 deposit (which is deducted from the total price) and you have 30 days before your vacation begins to have it paid in full.

Whether your trip is in 4 months or a year from now, you have that long to pay it off. You can make weekly/monthly payments or one big payment when the final payment is due. It’s up to you to decide how to structure your payment plan, so you can really customize it to suit your family’s needs.

Disney vacations can be booked 499 days in advance – that’s just over 16 months.

What does a vacation package consist of? A vacation package can have several variations. To be a package, you must have either park tickets or a dining plan added to the reservation, or both. Pretty simple, right?

Resort Room Only

If you are only reserving the room and not adding park tickets or a dining plan, you can still take advantage of the “payment plan”, giving you plenty of time to pay. You would simply pay one night’s deposit for the room and make payments or pay the balance upon your arrival at the resort.

Example Payment Plans

The average Disney vacation for a family with two adults and two children is $5000 before flights. (This figure averages families who stay at any level of resort and obviously, there are many ways to save and spend less – which we expand on in other posts linked below.)

If you book your Disney vacation package 16 months in advance, you will pay the $200 initial deposit and just need to pay $300/month each month until your vacation.

12 months in advance, you will pay the $200 initial deposit and just need to pay $400/month each month until your vacation.

6 months in advance, you will pay the $200 initial deposit and need to pay $800/month each month until your vacation.

Cancellation Policies

For the most up to date cancellation policies, call Disney directly or look at the cancellation terms on your booking.

As with any vacation, penalty fees may occur if you cancel your Disney vacation. If you need to cancel, contact Disney immediately as these penalties increase if you cancel within 29 days of your expected arrival. You likely won’t have to pay any additional funds – but it will reduce the amount of the funds returned to you.

Payment plans are especially great for when a great Disney vacation or resort deal comes available (for example, free Disney Dining or discounted moderate or deluxe rooms) and you want to take advantage of them – and know that you can budget for those deals over time or know that you have a big payment coming to you – like a work bonus or tax refund.

You can use the payment plan system with or without a Disney vacation planner. If you are using a Disney travel agent, don’t be embarrassed to let them know that you want to take advantage of payment plans – they are often incredibly knowledgeable and will be more than eager to help you plan. They want you to have an amazing vacation so that you bring return business to them – and refer your friends to them!

The Lay-Away-And-Stay vacation payment plan is available to all guests. There is no interest fee for the Lay-Away-And-Stay vacation payment plan, provided payments are made as agreed, save as defined below for default, or as listed and shown on the payment plan agreement. A simple Set-up and Administration fee is charged, based on the value of the reservation rental rate only as shown below. Also, the Lay-Away-And-Stay vacation payment plan can be combined with any other current offer.

Guests can choose to make equal monthly, or bi-weekly payments using a valid debit or credit card to pay equal payments to the remaining balance of their reservation. Final payment is due on the Friday 30 days before arrival for MONTHLY payment plans, and on the Friday 14 days before arrival for BI-WEEKLY payment plans.

Guests are required to complete, sign, and return the Lay-Away-And-Stay payment plan agreement form that is sent with the combined booking confirmation after the reservation is made and deposit paid.

An initial deposit of $99 is required to secure the reservation plus the layaway set-up fee. The layaway set-up fee is based on the reservation amount. $70 is payable on rental rates at or below $999, $85 on rental rates between $1,000 and $1,999, $100 payable on rental rates between $2,000 and $2,999, $115 payable on rental rates between $3,000 and $3,999, $130 payable on rental rates between $4,000 and $4,999, $145 payable on rental rates between $5,000 and $5,999, $160 payable on rental rates between $6,000 and $6,999, $175 payable on rental rates between $7,000 and $7,999, $190 payable on rental rates between $8,000 and $8,999, $205 payable on rental rates between $9,000 and $9,999, $220 payable on rental rates above $10,000. Please note that the layaway set-up fee and deposit are non-refundable. The layaway set-up fee does not count as payment towards the reservation.

You must use a debit or credit card on which the expiration date occurs after the date of arrival. Furthermore, complete payment must be received before stay at the reserved accommodation. Therefore, funds for payments must be available on the due date agreed. Failure to make complete payment of all due fees by the due date will result in refusal by the company to provide any accommodation, and will also result in a penalty retention of 25% of the total charges due or retention of paid amount (whichever is the lesser amount).

Bookings made within 60 days of the arrival must be paid in full at time of reservation. Bookings made over 60 days before the arrival date can make a payment plan of either bi-weekly or monthly payments.

Returning guests who book at least four months in advance of the arrival date (using the Lay-Away-And-Stay vacation payment plan) will receive a 5% returning guest discount also. Please ask your reservations agent for details.

A $35 fee will be levied against the deposit for the first payment returned unpaid. A $60 fee will be levied against the deposit for the second payment returned unpaid. If payment is declined a third time, the reservation will be canceled in full with no refund available to the guest.

Finally, all reservations made under the payment plan are also subject to our terms and conditions of rental .
