How to Book a Luxury Tour to Egypt: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Identify Your Preferred Luxury Tour Package:

Start by exploring various luxury tour options available for Egypt. Look for packages that include exclusive experiences such as private viewings of historical sites, luxury Nile cruises, and accommodations in premium hotels. Read testimonials and compare itineraries to find a package matching your taste and preferences.

2. Customization is Key:

Many luxury tours offer the ability to customize your itinerary. See if you can personalize your tour by adding unique experiences like a private yacht trip on the Red Sea or a special dinner under the stars near the Giza Pyramids. Customizing your tour can greatly enhance your overall experience.

3. Timing Your Visit:

Choosing the right time to visit Egypt is crucial for a luxury experience. The ideal periods are usually from March to April and October to November when the weather is milder. Avoiding the hot summer months ensures a more comfortable trip.

4. Understand What’s Included:

Clarify what your luxury tour package covers. This includes accommodations, meals, guided tours, and internal transport. Also, note what’s not included, such as international flights or specific personal expenses, to manage your budget effectively.

5. Expert Guidance:

Ensure experts guide your tour. A knowledgeable, experienced, and language-proficient guide can significantly enrich your understanding and enjoyment of Egypt’s historical and cultural wonders.

6. Early Booking Advantages:

Book your luxury tour well in advance. Exclusive tours with unique offerings often get booked quickly, so early booking is essential to secure your preferred dates and experiences.

7. Be Culturally Conscious:

Respect the local culture during your tour. Dress modestly, especially in religious or traditional sites, and be considerate of the local customs and traditions.

8. Travel Documentation:

Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your trip dates. Check if you need a visa for Egypt and arrange it beforehand to avoid any last-minute hassles.

9. Stay in Touch with Your Tour Operator:

Maintain communication with your tour provider for any assistance or updates regarding your trip. They can offer invaluable support, ensuring a seamless luxury experience in Egypt.

Select your desired experiences, when would you like to travel, select your arrival date, what is your desired trip length, number of travelers, how many adults, how many children, what is your travel budget, choose your estimated budget, where should we send your itinerary and price quote, your phone number, your nationality, any special requests, frequently asked questions., is egypt a safe destination to visit.

Egypt is generally considered a safe destination for tourists to visit. The country relies heavily on tourism, and the government has taken extensive measures to ensure the safety of tourists. There are police checkpoints throughout the country, particularly in tourist areas, and security measures are in place at airports, hotels, and major tourist sites.

As with any travel destination, it’s always wise to exercise caution and take commonsense safety precautions. It is advised to avoid large crowds, especially during demonstrations or protests, and always to remain alert and aware of your surroundings. It is also recommended that you follow the advice of your tour guide or travel operator and check with your embassy or consulate for any travel tips before your trip.

Overall, as long as you take the necessary precautions, Egypt is a safe and welcoming destination that offers a wealth of history, culture, and natural beauty for visitors to explore and enjoy.

What is the best time to visit Egypt?

The best time to visit Egypt is between October and April, during the country’s mild winter. The temperatures are pleasant during the day, ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-80s Fahrenheit (about 18-30 degrees Celsius), and more relaxed at night. This is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.

Visiting Egypt from May to September can be a good option if you prefer to avoid crowds and endure hotter temperatures. Temperatures during this time can reach up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or higher, but this is also the low season so you may find better deals on tours and accommodations.

It’s also important to note that Ramadan, the month-long Islamic holiday of fasting and prayer, can affect travel to Egypt. During Ramadan, many businesses and tourist sites have reduced hours or may be closed altogether. The dates of Ramadan change each year based on the Islamic calendar, so it’s essential to check the dates before planning your trip.

In summary, the best time to visit Egypt is during the winter season, between October and April, but if you don’t mind the heat and want to avoid the crowds, visiting during the summer months can also be a good option.

Tipping or Baksheesh in Egypt

Tipping, or baksheesh, is a common practice in Egypt and is considered a way to show appreciation for good service. It’s important to note that while tipping is not mandatory, it is expected in many situations, and it’s a good idea to carry small bills and change for this purpose.

Here are some standard tipping practices in Egypt:

  • Tour guides: Tipping your tour guide at the end of your tour is customary. The amount will depend on the length of the tour and the level of service provided, but a good rule of thumb is around 10-20% of the total cost of the tour.
  • Hotel staff: Tipping hotel staff, such as bellhops and housekeeping, is familiar. A small tip of 10-20 Egyptian pounds per day is appropriate.
  • Drivers: If you hire a driver, it’s customary to tip them at the end of your trip. The amount will depend on the length of the journey and the level of service provided, but a good rule of thumb is around 50-100 Egyptian pounds per day.
  • Restaurants: It’s common to leave a tip of around 10-15% of the total bill at restaurants. Some restaurants may include a service charge on the bill, so check before tipping.

In summary, tipping or baksheesh is a common practice in Egypt, and it’s important to have small bills and changes on hand. The amount to tip will depend on the service provided. Still, as a general rule, a tip of 10-20% of the total cost is appropriate for tours and restaurants, while smaller tips of 10-20 Egyptian pounds per day are appropriate for hotel staff and drivers.

What to bring with you on a trip to Egypt?

When planning a trip to Egypt, it’s important to pack the right items to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Here are some things to consider bringing with you:

Sunscreen: Egypt is a desert country, and the sun can be intense, so it’s important to pack sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin.

Comfortable walking shoes: Many of Egypt’s top attractions involve a lot of walking, so make sure you bring comfortable shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain.

Lightweight clothing: Egypt can be hot, so pack light clothing from breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Packing clothes that cover your shoulders and knees is also a good idea, particularly if you plan to visit religious sites.

Scarf or shawl: Women visiting Egypt may want to bring a scarf or shawl to cover their heads when entering mosques or other religious sites.

Water bottle: Staying hydrated is important in Egypt’s hot climate, so bring a reusable water bottle to refill throughout the day.

Insect repellent: Mosquitoes can be a problem in some regions of Egypt, particularly during the summer, so pack insect repellent to keep them at bay.

Camera: Egypt is a country full of fantastic photo opportunities, so bring a camera to capture all the incredible sights.

Power adapter: Egypt uses European-style power sockets, so if you’re coming from outside Europe, you’ll need to bring a power adapter to charge your electronic devices.

Packaging these essential items will prepare you for a comfortable and enjoyable trip to Egypt.

Advices for women while traveling to Egypt

Traveling as a woman in Egypt can be a rewarding and exciting experience, but it’s important to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and comfort. Here are some tips for women traveling to Egypt:

Dress conservatively: Egypt is a Muslim country, and it’s important to respect local customs and dress conservatively. It’s a good idea to cover your shoulders and knees when in public places, especially when visiting mosques or other religious sites.

Avoid walking alone at night: It’s best to avoid walking alone at night, especially in quiet or poorly-lit areas. Instead, take a taxi or use a ride-hailing app to get around.

Use a guide or tour group: Using a guide or tour group can be a good idea, especially if you’re traveling alone. This can help you navigate local customs and culture, and can provide an extra layer of safety.

Be cautious with alcohol: Drinking alcohol in public is prohibited in Egypt, and it’s important to be cautious with alcohol consumption. Stick to drinking in licensed bars and restaurants, and avoid getting drunk in public.

Be aware of your surroundings: It’s always important to be aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling in a new place. Be cautious of pickpockets, scams, and other potential dangers, and trust your instincts if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Research local customs and culture: Researching local customs and culture can help you better understand the country and avoid inadvertently offending locals. For example, it’s important to remove your shoes when entering a mosque, and to avoid physical contact with people of the opposite sex in public.

By following these tips and being aware of local customs and culture, women can have a safe and enjoyable experience traveling in Egypt.

Visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramids at Giza and their guardian Sphinx, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that simply must be on the sightseeing list for Cairo. Also in Cairo is: the Citadel of Salah El Din - a massive 12th century compound that was home to Egypt's rulers for more than seven hundred years; the sublime Alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali, with its highly ornate interior; and the Egyptian Museum, housing the priceless treasures recovered from the tomb of Tutankhamun.

At night, Cairo’s breathtaking Sound & Light show will amaze and dazzle. Nearby, Memphis – the famous capital of ancient Egypt – provides the opportunity to see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. In Sakkara, the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, is the oldest in the world, dating back to 2,700 BC. In the Valley of the Kings, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, is the burial place of Tutankhamun, whose mummified remains are still here on display.

The Temple of Hatshepsutis is not to be missed. This sacred site is the final resting place of Egypt's first female pharaoh who ruled from 1,479 to 1,458 BC. Further afield in Luxor, Karnak is the largest temple complex ever built by man, constructed over a period of 1,500 years. Points of interest include the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes, and standing in awe, among the huge columns of the vast Hypostyle Hall. Another marvel is the Temple of Hathor. Built in the 1st century BC, it remains one of the best-preserved temples in all of Egypt and contains a rare depiction of Cleopatra VII and Caesarian, the son of Julius Caesar. A UNESCO World Heritage Site worthy of your attention is the Temple of Luxor. Founded in 1,400 BC during Thebe's Golden Age, it is a stunning sight at sunset.

Venturing down the Nile will bring you to the Colossi of Memnon – the gigantic twin stone statues of Amenhotep III, that once guarded his mortuary temple. Crossing the Nile by motorboat reveals the well-preserved Philae temple complex, moved stone-by-stone to its current location following the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Situated in the centre of Esna, the fascinating and highly decorated Esna Temple is dedicated to Khnum, the ram-headed God of Creation. Witness the majesty of the unique double-temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to both the crocodile-headed Sobek, and the Falcon God - Horus the Elder. In this sacred place near the riverbank, captive crocodiles were once worshipped in life and mummified after death. Aswan is the location of the High Dam and the ancient Granite Quarries, where one of Queen Hatshepsut's obelisks lies abandoned in the bedrock.

Egyptian cuisine has an endearing simplicity to it, with legumes and vegetables being at the heart of many dishes. Two of the most popular savory dishes are: kushari - an enticing combination of rice, lentils, caramelized onions, chickpeas, pasta and tomato sauce; and ful medames - mashed broad beans with garlic, parsley and lemon juice, often eaten with pitta bread. Buffalo cheese, rice, dips such as baba ghanoush (mashed grilled eggplant mixed with tahini, lemon juice, seasoning and olive oil), kibda (fried liver), stuffed pigeon, manshi (stuffed vegetables), falafel, and kofter (spiced meatballs) are among some of the favorite local cuisine. Delightfully flaky pastry accompanied with honey and chopped nuts are the winning ingredients in creating deliciously sweet baklava. Bouzat haleeb (ice-cream), roz be laban (vanilla rice pudding), umm ali (a hot dessert with layers of bread soaked in milk with raisins), and halawa (sesame paste confectionary) are also much-loved desserts in Egypt.

Divine fruits are used to make a multitude of drinks in Egypt, including mango juice, strawberry juice, banana and milk, guava and milk, coconut and milk, melon juice, and stewed apricot juice. Juice is also made from sugar cane, the hibiscus flower, and carob. Some of Egypt’s beer brands have existed for over 100 years and are renowned for their quality. Stella and Sakara are two types that are worth a try. Likewise, wine production is an age-old tradition here too, with archaeological evidence indicating that it dates as far back as the 3rd century BC. Grenache, Muscat, Syrah, Chardonnay and Tempranillo are just some of the varieties available. Chill is Egypt’s range of ready-to-drink carbonated and flavored spirits, while Edge is flavored vodka but if you’re looking for neat spirits, Butler’s Gin and Auld Stag (whiskey) are well-regarded.

Natural environments in Egypt include desert and mountain regions, coral reefs, wetlands and islands, resulting in 100 different species of mammal, over 270 species of bird, and more than 100 kinds of reptiles and amphibians. Marine life includes manatees, whales, dolphins and seals. Cobras, vipers, sand boas, scorpions, geckos, crocodiles and lizards all call Egypt home. Foxes, gazelles, hares, hyenas and camels are some of the land mammals found here, while partridges, eagles, falcons, vultures, owls, pelicans, storks and herons are among Egypt’s bird life. National Parks serve as a way of protecting Egypt’s diverse landscapes and ecosystems and are great places for nature lovers to visit.

Detailed Narrative Itinerary

Ahlan wa sahlan, welcome to egypt .

You’ll be met inside the Cairo airport where one of our welcoming Egyptian teammates will help guide you through the immigration process and collect your luggage. You’ll be driven to Giza to begin this magical journey through time.

Your home base in Giza will be the historic Mena House hotel. This 5-star luxury hotel at the base of the pyramids was originally built in 1869 as a royal retreat and hunting lodge. Once it was converted into a hotel in 1886, The Mena House became the hot spot for any celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries visiting over the years, including Prince Albert Victor, Arthur Conan Doyle, Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie, and Frank Sinatra–and now you! This is a perfect place to relax and get ready for our thrilling adventure together.

Cairo, Saqqara & Giza

On January 30th, we’ll head into Cairo proper to visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization & the Royal Mummies’ Hall.  This new museum is small but mighty, showcasing stunning pieces from throughout Egypt’s long history. You’ll marvel at the Royal Mummies’ Hall which houses 20 mummies, including Hatshepsut and Seti I. We’ll round out our time in Cairo with a visit to the Sultan Hasan mosque and madrasa, a gorgeous complex built in the mid-1300s.

Tomorrow we’ll drive a short distance to see Saqqara. Saqqara is incredibly rich in history and artifacts because it served as the necropolis of ancient Egypt’s capital, Memphis. Today you’ll see firsthand that the iconic pyramids on the Giza plateau were the culmination of more than a century of designing and refining.

The first architect, Imhotep, designed the Step Pyramid of Djoser in 2630 BCE, starting the pyramid craze across the plateau. The Step Pyramid is the first freestanding stone building in history and the first pyramid ever built. You’ll also see the so-called “Bent Pyramid,” another experiment in building the perfect royal tomb.

The entire area of Saqqara is a hotbed for architectural achievements and findings, with more and more tombs being uncovered every year. ( There’s a great 2020 documentary about Saqqara on Netflix currently. )  We’ll explore these noble tombs as our expert guide explains their significance and deciphers the domestic stories told in the beautiful hieroglyphics lining the walls.

On February 1st, we’ll visit the newly opened GEM, the Grand Egyptian Museum (*pending its grand opening! The museum is 13 years behind schedule but we are confident it will be open in early 2024!) This GEM of a museum has been a long time coming, with the cornerstone placed all the way back in 2002. Moved from the original location in downtown Cairo to the Giza plateau, the GEM is the largest archaeological museum in the world. The new museum showcases over 100,000 artifacts, about 3500 of which belong to the famous King Tutankhamen.

Although you’ve already been admiring them from our hotel, tomorrow you’ll get up close and personal with the Giza pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Valley temple. The Great Pyramid is the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and it has attracted the curiosity of tourists for thousands of years. We’ll enter one of these grand pyramids and appreciate these structures from a completely different perspective!

We’ll marvel at the Great Sphinx of Giza and take in details that photos just can’t capture—its enormous paws, its tail, its noble gaze—as we can imagine what the Sphinx has gazed upon for millennia.

Luxor & Valley of the Queens

After our Giza Plateau visit, we’ll take a short flight (~70 minutes) to Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes. Luxor is sometimes called “the world’s greatest open-air museum” due to the enormous amount of priceless treasures here, from the grand temples of Luxor and Karnak to the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens in the Necropolis across the Nile River.

Our home base in Luxor will be the Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa, set on the bank of the Nile River. With two pools, a phenomenal spa, and one heck of a view, it may difficult to peel yourself away from our hotel.

On February 3, we’ll visit Hatshepsut’s temple. Hatshepsut is an intriguing, powerful character, and one of the only female pharaohs to have reigned. She initially ruled as regent for her step-son Thutmose III, but she became a clever, successful ruler for nearly 20 years during a critical time in Egypt’s history. Fittingly, her temple is one of the most striking monuments in ancient Egypt.

We’ll spend time in the Valley of the Queens, with a coveted entrance into Queen Nefertari’s tomb. Often called “The Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt,” this stunning tomb belonged to Ramesses II’s favorite wife. We’re thrilled to bring you inside this extremely special, heavily protected site!

Afterward, we’ll visit the Memnon Colossi, two of the most imposing ancient Egyptian statues still standing, on the way back to the east bank of the Nile. The statues are an incredible 60 feet tall and are thought to weigh around 700 tons each. This evening we’ll round out our day with a visit to Luxor Temple (~1400 BCE). We’ll spend time there during the magical hours of dusk, watching the sky become purple behind the towering pillars and statues.

On the 4th, we’ll make a day trip to explore the breathtaking temple of Dendera, dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of joy, dance, and love. Hathor was also believed to have had healing powers, and ancient Egyptians often brought the sick here to be cured. Dendera Temple is one of the best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt.

The ceiling of the Hathor Temple has recently been cleaned meticulously, removing hundreds of years of black soot without harming the ancient paint underneath. As a result of this cleaning, spectacular ceiling paintings have been exposed in the main hall, and some of the most vibrant and colorful paintings dating from antiquity are now visible.

Valley of the Kings & Karnak

Tomorrow we’ll discover the Valley of the Kings, where we’ll explore the colorful tombs carved out of rocky cliffs to safeguard the mummies and treasures from grave robbers.

You’ll enter the tomb of Tutankhamun, as British archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter did in 1922—although you’ve already seen his treasures at the Grand Egyptian Museum! Not only have we included a visit to King Tut’s tomb, but we’re also taking you to the tomb of Seti I.

Seti I, the father of Ramses II, has one of the best-preserved tombs in the Valley of the Kings. This burial chamber marks the first time that decorations covered every part of the tomb, a style followed by every succeeding tomb through the rest of the valley’s history.

This afternoon we’ll check in to our Nile cruise and enjoy lunch. For the next four nights, we’ll call the 5-star MS Mayfair our home, as we cruise between Luxor and Aswan on the Nile River. Each day we’ll visit temples dotting the Nile’s riverbanks, and in the evening we’ll have time to catch up with each other, reflect on what we saw, and participate in cultural activities on board the cruise.

On the morning of January 6th, we’ll explore the massive grounds of Karnak Temple. Karnak is actually a complex of temples surrounded by one enclosure wall that is dedicated to the god Amon-Ra. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to these buildings. It was completely buried in sand for many centuries, allowing it to be one of the most well-preserved temples in Egypt.

The temple has many beautifully decorated columns, a huge open court, a massive façade, a huge pylon, and two seated statues of Ramses II. The Great Hypostyle Hall is a humbling site, indeed; this hall of 134 massive columns is one of the most impressive places in all of Egypt–make sure you have your wide-angle lens!

Our Luxury Nile Cruise

After our Karnak visit, we’ll set sail for Edfu in our stylish home-away-from-home, the MS Mayfair . This luxury Nile cruise is the perfect way to see rural Egypt; as we glide past the papyrus lining the shores of the Nile River, you’ll think you’ve been transported back a few millennia. That is, if it weren’t for the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and bar on the rooftop deck! The sundeck is a perfect place to unwind, connect with new friends, and enjoy a cold beer or a hot tea.

In the morning we’ll visit the stunning temple at Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. It is a shockingly well-preserved temple because it was covered by almost 40 feet of silt and sand over the centuries, only being “rediscovered” in the 19th century. The Horus Temple at Edfu has some of our favorite hieroglyphs in all of Egypt.

From Edfu, we’ll sail on to Kom Ombo and visit the very special riverside temple there. It is the only temple in Egypt that is dedicated to two gods: Horus the Elder and the crocodile-headed Sobek.  Nearby there is a museum that houses crocodile mummies recovered locally along with some gorgeous statues of Sobek. In the Old Kingdom, Sobek was established as one of the most significant gods, frequently mentioned in the funerary texts.

There is a fascinating carving in this temple that carefully depicts medical and surgical devices of the day, a testament to the advanced medicine in Egypt at the time. The image also contains two goddesses sitting on birthing chairs.

Aswan & Philae

After our exploration at Kom Ombo, we’ll sail on to Aswan, just north of Aswan High Dam. On February 8, we’ll visit Philae temple, considered to be the most beautiful temple in the Nile Valley. This Isis and Osiris temple became submerged in the Nile after the first Aswan Dam was built, but with the help of UNESCO, the Philae temple was moved to its new location. The temple was dismantled and transferred, stone by stone, from the submerged Philae Island to the redesigned Egilica Island. Each and every stone had to be numbered and then replaced in the same position in the new location. It was a massive project and took over 9 years to complete.

Next, we’ll head to the Unfinished Obelisk, which lies on the ground in its original location in a granite quarry. It was abandoned when cracks appeared in the rock during its construction. Had this obelisk been completed, it would have been the largest obelisk ever cut and would have weighed the same as 97 school buses! It’s a fascinating insight into how obelisks were shaped and quarried in ancient Egypt.

This afternoon we can take a speed boat around the Nile to see more of the picturesque area. We can also visit the Aswan Market in the early evening together before heading back to the Mayfair .

The banks of the Nile River as seen from a Nile cruise.

On the morning of February 9, we’ll say goodbye to our cruise ship and fly to Abu Simbel (~45-minute flight) to explore this jaw-dropping site.  Abu Simbel is one of the most iconic ancient sites in Egypt, nestled on the west bank of the Nile River between the first and second cataracts (the shallow areas of rapids).

Flanking the entrance of the Great Temple are four seated colossal figures, each a towering 65 feet tall. This temple, too, was meticulously moved stone by stone in 1968 to keep it safe from the rising Nile after the Aswan High Dam was built.

After our Abu Simbel visit, we’ll fly back to Cairo via Aswan, for a total of 2.5 hours of flight time. We’ll rest at a comfortable hotel near the airport to make our departure tomorrow a bit more relaxed. Let’s enjoy our final dinner together tonight and recount all that we’ve experienced together during our unforgettable Egyptian exploration!

Tomorrow you’ll be taken back to the airport to head home or on to your next adventure. We can connect you to our partners in Jordan if you wish to extend your adventure to visit Petra, the Dead Sea, and Wadi Rum!

Our Carbon Offset Commitment

Retreatours is climate positive.

We purchase   triple carbon offsets   for your travels with us—that’s   from your home, through the entire tour, and back to your home again,   times three !

RetreaTours is officially a  Carbon free ® Partner   with   Carbonfund.org , as well as a   partner with   Cool Effect .

You may have heard the term “carbon neutral,” which means that a company offsets as much carbon as it produces. With this 300% offset, RetreaTours is actually offsetting  more   carbon than we produce each year, making us “carbon negative” (or “climate positive,” which has a nicer ring to it!)

Since 2012 we’ve focused on making travel   safe and easy   for our guests; with our triple carbon offset tours,   we’re pleased to make our trips as sustainable as they are memorable.

Please see more at   RetreaTours.com/CarbonNegative

To make the most out of your time in Egypt, you’ll want to be able to walk for 1 mile at a time, sometimes over uneven ground. Please email us if you have any specific questions about your fitness and ability levels for this journey.

Required Coverage

RetreaTours requires that each guest carries travel insurance that covers   emergency medical treatment and emergency evacuation and repatriation.   Please send Lauren your policy information as soon as you have it.

Suggested Coverage

We suggest trip cancellation insurance, as well, as you never know what obstacles life can toss at you leading up to a trip. However, we do not require this coverage, we only suggest it highly.

Please familiarize yourself with RetreaTours’ guest cancellation policy in your journey’s contract. Please read this article to understand a bit more about trip cancellation insurance and what it may or may not cover. “Cancel For Any Reason” policies do exist, as well, although do check to see what percentage of the trip cost they actually reimburse.

When to purchase your policy

Please purchase this insurance as soon as we tell you the trip has reached its minimum. Please do not wait until the last minute, should you need to use your (optional) cancellation coverage before then.

Where to search for policies

Below you will find some options to start your search for trip insurance. However, we ask that you carefully consider your choice in travel insurance. What works for some people may not work for others, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions. Please do take the time to consider the best policy for your individual needs.

Squaremouth.com   and   InsureMyTrip.com   are two sites where you can see and compare many policies at once, and you can refine the options by what coverage you would like. Squaremouth’s interface is very easy and intuitive to use, and you can easily opt out of trip cancellation coverage.

World Nomads   provides policies for guests under 70 that includes trip cancellation options. Use the link above and pop in your info to get an immediate quote.

It may also be a good idea to check with your credit card companies, especially American Express, to see if they offer any medical coverage for travel.

Passport & Visa Requirement

Your passport must have at least 2 blank pages   and be   valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the trip (that is August 10, 2024).

You will purchase a visa upon arrival at the airport in Cairo, valid for 30 days.

Vaccines & Staying Healthy on Tour

RetreaTours requires   proof of a COVID-19 vaccine and booster   for this journey.

No vaccines are required to enter Egypt, but we suggest you work with your physician or your area’s travel health expert to decide what options are best for you.  You can read the CDC’s recommendations here  and the Scottish NHS recommendations here .

Motion Sickness

Motion sickness is not typically a concern with any of our guests on the Nile River cruise as it is extremely smooth and stable. If you have any concerns, please reach out and we can discuss this further!

Staying Healthy on Tour

Please visit our comprehensive article,   “How to Stay Healthy While Traveling…Naturally, ” which addresses all of the most common travel ailments.

Egypt - Private Travel

Egypt presents one iconic structure after another, as you tour Cairo and Giza, drift down the Nile and explore the Red Sea coast.

Egypt is one of the oldest civilizations on earth, its heritage within the Nile River delta dating back to the 4000 BC.

Your private luxury tour of Egypt will begin in Cairo, Africa’s largest city, just south of the Nile River delta. Visitors here explore the wonders of the ancient world, following the footsteps of the pharaohs at the Great Pyramids of Giza, Dahshur, and Saqqara, before taking to the cosmopolitan streets of Zamalek and the chic cafés of Heliopolis. Discover the Sakkara Desert by jeep and camel, then sail down the Nile River to the pharaohs’ tombs and monuments of the Valley of the Kings near the city of Luxor. Stay the southern course to Lake Nasser and the Abu Simbel temples, where 3,000-year-old monuments are carved into the mountainside. Egypt’s seaside beach towns promise delightful repose. Seek out the sand, clear waters, and coral reefs of Sharm el-sheik at the bottom of the Sinai Peninsula or check into the luxury resorts of Hurghada on the Red Sea, also known as the Red Sea Riviera. At the seaport of Alexandria, visitors bask in old-world charm iced with a modern Mediterranean aura. Old meets new here: the submerged ruins of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse have become an underwater museum, and on the site of the Great Library, lost in antiquity, sits a new landmark: Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Just a quick note to say that we had a great time in Egypt and Jordan. These are 2 very amazing countries with very friendly people everywhere we went. The extra camel ride at sunset to the Pyramids was fantastic. A much better view of such a special place.

Discover The Wonders of Egypt and Jordan Tour -Cairo, Nile Cruise & Petra & Dead Sea

The overall tour was excellent. Guides were very knowledgeable about the places we visited. Lots of famous sites were squeezed into a busy 10 day tour. However, there were a few negatives that must be mentioned. The biggest one was that the flight we had to book from CAI to AMM got cancelled by Egyptair, and they are so far refusing to refund the money. We were able to book on Royal Jordanian instead, so we were able to take our tour as scheduled. I notified Look At Egypt tour company of the flight change details a month ahead, but apparently they never notified the tour guide, so we arrived in AMM to no tour guide. We wasted 2 hours in Amman airport trying to find our guide and wondering what we were going to do if we couldn't find anyone. Very stressful! We had to get Covid tested before each international flight, which our guides were very helpful at arranging. However, when we got to CAI, they told us that particular PCR test was not accepted in Jordan. They made us sit and wait for 2 hours before the flight while they claimed they were trying to contact Jordan. My daughters finally went up to the man at the ticket counter and cried, begging for help. He said we could go ahead now. Was that all a game they were playing, hoping for a bribe? It would have been helpful to have a guide with us at each airport so that these major kinks would not have happened. Every airport we were at had some snag that we were ill equipped to handle. We also had $400 in cash stolen from our room on the cruise. I had neglected to put it in the room safe when we left the room. Would I recommend the trip? Yes, because the sites were amazing, the guides were very knowledgeable, and our Jordan guide was so wonderful that he invited us to his home for a home cooked meal on our last night, which was the best meal of the trip. Just beware of being swindled at every turn, and take necessary precautions.

Our Vacation to Go Tour was wonderful. Every step of the way we had people that made sure every experience was fantastic. Our guides were very personable and eager to please. The sights were more than we had imagined. Mike in Egypt had such a great sense of humor. We spent the most time with one person in Jordan. His name was Mustofa Orabi, a complete professional. His contacts on all our stops in Jordan are his friends and as he puts it " Part of his team" He personalized them by telling their stories. He is a man we will remember forever. He is an ambassador for jordan.

Highlights of Egypt & Jordan Luxury Tour

The tour was generally good, and our guide in Egypt was excellent; however, the rating of five stars was a stretch - four stars would be more accurate. Some of the features that were advertised (and were what made me choose Circonia) were not what we got. For instance, the tour was supposed to be a small group tour with a maximum of 16 people - there were 22 in our group, and four of those people said that they only booked a month or two out from departure - meaning the tour was still being advertised while already oversubscribed. Everyone in the group had an itinerary that said we would visit the amphitheater in Alexandria; however, the guide said that that attraction had never been on the Circonia itinerary. The original itinerary had the Memories Aicha Luxury Camp at Wadi Rum but our group was accommodated at a different camp (not as good), and we were very disappointed to learn that a second Circoina group on a parallel tour actually stayed at the Memories Aicha Luxury Camp that was listed in the original itinerary. The other Circonia group also had a better ship for their Nile Cruise. The accommodation at Petra was also changed, and while the hotel was lovely, there was a no-alcohol policy that we were not forewarned about.

My wife and I had an amazing time. We are both in our 50's and seasoned travelers, not the type to book a tour. However, for our trip to Egypt, Jordan and Israel we counted on Vacations to Go to handle everything for us. Magdy and his team, including Ahmed, Mohammed, Mansour, Hani and the rest were great. We were whisked from one outstanding place to the next with great care and attention to detail. Everything was flawless. Westerners please pay attention, these countries are safe for travel and best seen with a guide. Don't give it another thought, book it!

Luxury Egypt And Jordan Tours & Trips Reviews

Our 15-day adventure through Egypt and Jordan was an absolute blast! George, our Egypt guide, brought so much energy and knowledge to the Pyramids and Cairo – it was like discovering it all over again. Then, in Jordan, Fady led us through Petra with stories that made the place come alive. And oh, Ibrahim, our guide on the Nile cruise, was not just great but hilarious too! He had this knack for putting a smile on our faces every day. These guys didn't just show us around; they turned the whole tour into a personal, unforgettable journey. If you're into trips filled with history, heart, and awesome guides, this is the one to pick!
This tour was wonderful!. We we greeted at the airport in Cairo by MaMout and escorted through the process and expertly driven to our hotel. Hannah was our Guide in Cairo and Ramone while on the Nile Cruise. They were exceptional both in sharing their knowledge but navigating us through the process and answering All of our questions. Ramone was especially passionate about the Temples and was a joy to spend time with. We were 100% satisfied and taken care of in Egypt! We were greeted at the airport in Jordan than proceeded with the driver Abot to Petra. Our guide through Petra was very good but perhaps lacked the passion we were expecting. We then were driven to the Dead Sea and simply dumped at the hotel. We were unable to check in for 2 hours and had no way of getting to the Visitor Center or Baptismal Site as we had requested. Perhaps because the Egypt part of our trip was so exceptional, this was really a let down to end our adventure. Abot and our Greeter were kind but missed several opportunities with us. Just a warning to future travelers, be sure to take funds for tips. In total, it was certainly an expense while traveling. Highly recommend traveling with Look at Egypt Tours and Tour Radar.
My wife and I had an amazing experience on our honeymoon, despite being experienced travelers in our 40s who typically don't opt for guided tours. However, we highly recommend it for Egypt, Jordan, and Cairo. Although these destinations are perfectly safe, having a guide from Vacations to Go handle everything made our journey much smoother. They are local experts, serving as the "on the ground" tour company, and their proficiency significantly enhanced our experience while alleviating potential frustrations. Booking a trip with them is a favor to yourself – the level of service is top-notch. We spent three weeks exploring, and the sights were so captivating that we wished we didn't have to return home. It's a fantastic vacation choice, especially for Western travelers concerned about safety.
