Come discover the beauty of South East Alaska and the Misty Fjords National Monument.​

Misty Fjords Flightseeing Tour:   Experience the beauty of the Misty Fjords National Monument from our Dehavilland Beaver seaplane.  Soar above the Tongass National Forest and the Fjords to witness one of Nature’s most spectacular creations.  With waterfalls, shear granite cliffs, waterways carved out by the glaciers, and mountains covered in lush green forests. 

Headsets are provided for all passengers for two-way communication with other passengers, and the pilot (when not in high traffic areas or during take off and landing).

Wildlife sightings are also possible from the aircraft.

1 hour tour, allow 1.5 hours minimum for transfers from Cruise ships.

$350 per person.

(Minimun 4 passengers for tours) 

Tours may be delayed or canceled at any time if minimun safe weather conditions do not exist,  or the 4 passenger min cannot be met.

Located in Ward Cove!!  

Norwegian Cruise Lines    passengers  no need to transfer to downtown Ketchikan.  We will pick you up for a short ride across the cove.

About our Company  Vance Robertus started Black Rock Aviation in 2020 after working for other operators in the state of Alaska for over 20 years.   We operate one Dehavilland Beaver equiped with Aerocet floats, and can accomidate up to 6 passengers .  Vance has over 24 years of commercial flying experience and  more than 12,000 hours fllying in Alaska  with most of that time being in float equiped aircraft .  Let Vance get you to your destination safely in the rugged and reliable DeHavilland Beaver, the most Iconic bush plane in the world.

We booked this as a shore excursion on our Alaska cruise. The meeting instructions were clear and not far from the ship. Ketchikan has loads of jewelry shops and it is easy to be detained in one.

Misty Fjord Tour - Great

Tour of Misty Fjord by float plane (arranged through the cruise ship). Felt quite safe all of the time. Flight stayed at about 800 feet, good enough to see a flying eagle.

Learning to Fly!

The take offs and landings are some of the smoothest and coolest you will ever experience. We went on a warm and sunny day, so no special clothing needed. A floatplane adventure is simply a "must do" in this area and Taquan Air is amazing.

Neets Bay Bear Watch by Floatplane

This was an amazing tour! We were picked up from our cruise ship in a bus and taken to the floatplane dock. The floatplane pilot was very professional and pointed out all the interesting view points along the way. 

Wonderful experience!

This trip to Neets Bay was WONDERFUL!! Beautiful views the pilot talked away as we flew about the sights and history of the planes. We saw all the bears, the jelly fish and sea stars are on the dock. We got so close to the bears! They got us back safely and on time to our cruise ship!

The pilot, Clark Hassle, was friendly, knowledgeable, and highly skilled. His piloting skills were the best we ever experienced. We hardly felt the plane land on the glassy, glacier lake. Highly recommend this flight.

The float plane ride over the Misty Fjords was incredible.  Several of us got out and walked on the plane floats. A must do for anyone visiting Ketchikan.

We were lucky enough to come on a perfectly sunny day in Ketchikan was beautiful. Jim's water landings and take-offs were smoother than most commercial airliners, and his narration was fun and informative.

Amazing! Not to be missed

I don't like small planes, but I love adventure so I signed up for a Sea plane tour and crab feed. The crab was amazing, but the flight was even better. We had a beautiful day, so safety was not a concern. We flew over beautiful mountains, lakes and streams, and very close to the cliffs. The sea landing was amazing. I loved this experience. GO!

Absolutely stunning views

 We were in the air for about an hour and got to enjoy an all-you-can-eat crab leg feast at the conclusion of this tour. Pricey, but would absolutely do again.

Flew on a sightseeing and crab dinner combo. The flight was great. Top notch operation. Safety minded. The bus drive back from the dinner was also a lot a fun as the bus driver, a young lady from Arkansas, was something of a comedian.

The highlight of three weeks in Canada and Alaska!

Having travelled from Calgary to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer, then spent a week,on Vancouver Island, followed by a cruise to the Hubbard glacier and nearly back we little thought that the undoubted highlight of the trip was to be found in Ketchican.

We did a sea plane tour of the misty fjords during our Disney cruise recently, culminating in a crab feast at the George Inlet lodge. The float plane part of the experience with Taquan air was amazing, and felt completely one of a kind.

Our pilot was so so knowledgeable during our flight and shared so much fantastic information on what we were seeing. We arrived at George Inlet Lodge for our crab feast. (separate review) If ever back in Alaska I would definitely book with these guys again for a tour!

Amazing flightseeing and all-you-can-eat crab feast

Our group ranged in age from 12-71 and everyone had a great time. Our pilot was knowledgeable and friendly, and the staff at the George Inlet Lodge were great. The flight was relatively short but we enjoyed stunning views. Lunch was delicious.

Magnificent Misty Fjords Seaplane

Float Plane to Salmon Hatchery to watch bears

Our pilot, Chuck was awesome! My youngest daughter got to sit up front with him. On way out he made several passes to show us some bears on the beach and then on the way back, he made a couple detours to descend and show us some hard to see mountain goats. Great pilot and narrator!

The 16,000 square foot facility is located in Ketchikan’s 6.0 acre Harbor Point Business Park located at 4085 Tongass Avenue. Vehicles access the business park via a separate entrance and exit driveways from Tongass Avenue, with motorcoach loading, unloading and staging areas as well as ample short and long-term parking for customers.

The spacious check-in area, passenger lounge, gift shop and restrooms are specifically designed to handle groups large and small. Other features in this spacious complex include:

Excursion Overview

Come bend a fly or spin rod in the wilds of southeast alaska.

Beautiful small streams and gorgeous lakes with lots of trout, salmon, steelhead, and very few other fishermen await you. It is not uncommon to go fishing here and not see another group on the same body of water. Enjoy the tranquility and serenity that comes from being out in nature and trying your beginner or practiced hand at fly fishing. We provide flies or lures, equipment, and transportation. You don't know how to fly fish but have always wanted to learn? We can provide a guide who will give one-on-one instruction in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness. Your plane carries up to five passengers and the total time for this tour is approximately 5 hours with 4 hours of it fishing. Flight times will be determined by fishing location and weather conditions so your time in the skies could be anywhere from 30-75 minutes. Enjoy a window seat and narration by your local pilot for the ultimate Southeast Alaskan excursion.

• Noise-canceling headset to listen to the pilot's narration during the 30-75 minute flightseeing (length dependent on the location being fished at)
• Fishing gear including waders, rods, tackle
• Roundtrip transportation from the cruise ship dock
• Bottled water

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 participants is required for this tour
• Minimum age: 5 years old
• Guests must be comfortable walking short distances and getting into and out of the float plane.
• Not recommended for guests with back or hip problems
• Signed liability waiver

Duration: 5-5.25 hours (Roundtrip from the cruise ship terminal. )

• 30 minutes - roundtrip transportation from the Visitor's Center to the floatplane dock (If your cruise ship docks at WARD COVE, please review detailed meeting instructions for pick-up information)
• 30-75 minutes - flightseeing via floatplane (length dependent on the location being fished at)
• 4 hours - fishing

Meeting Instructions:

• This tour meets at the Bronze Statue on the north side of the Ketchikan Visitor's Center. Fully detailed instructions are included on your finalized ticket vouchers. All guests docking at WARD COVE, your guide will pick you up at this dock.

Tours can be canceled for any reason up until seven (7) days prior to the date of the tour for a full refund unless otherwise noted on the individual tour product page in the Things to Know section. To cancel a tour, please use the cancelation request link within your e-ticket that was emailed to you OR send an email to  [email protected] with the following information:

- Order number

- Tour you are canceling

- Number of passengers you wish to cancel

Within 0-7 days before the tour date, cancelations are eligible for a full refund only in the following scenarios:

- The tour is canceled by the tour operator for any reason (for example: bad weather or mechanical issue)

- You experience a medical emergency during this window and can provide documentation (documentation must be submitted within 30 days to receive a refund)

- Your ship changes port itineraries causing you to miss an excursion

All refunds are processed through Alaska Shore Excursions, and will not be processed through any cruise line or local tour provider. Refunds will appear under Alaska Shore Excursions on your bank/credit card statement. Credit card refunds are processed within 10 business days of the request. The temperature during flight is roughly similar to the ground temperature, and each plane is equipped with heaters if necessary.

Yes, all seats on the floatplane have a window view.

Wildlife is abundant in Southeast Alaska and sightings are possible on any tour, however, this is not a designated wildlife tour and nothing can be guaranteed. While there is generally good success with fishing, there are no guarantees.

The minimum age for this tour is 5 years old.

Small bags may be brought along but must be stored in the rear cargo area of the floatplane.

Non-alcoholic beverages in closeable containers and snacks are allowed on tour.

Bottled water is provided.

Guests must be comfortable walking short distances and getting on and off the aircraft with minimal assistance. This tour is not recommended for guests with back or hip problems.

Layered clothing and water-resistant jackets are recommended. You will need to supply your own rain jacket.
