Recording Academy to honor Tammy Wynette with lifetime achievement award during Grammy  week

The renewed attention continues to roll in for country music legend Tammy Wynette as she experiences a revitalization of interest in her important career. In late 2022, the Showtime limited series George & Tammy about the tumultuous relationship between George Jones and Tammy Wynette received  massive audiences and rave reviews , causing many to reconsider Wynette’s catalog, and younger listeners to discover it for the first time. Jessica Chastain received an Emmy nomination for her role as Wynette. Now Tammy Wynette will be one of the 2024 recipients of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Announced on Friday, January 5th, Wynette will be honored with Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, the Clark Sisters, Laurie Anderson, and N.W.A. as Lifetime Achievement recipients. Wynette will receive the award during “Grammy Week” on February 3rd at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre as part of the Special Merit Awards Ceremony. Tammy Wynette earned the moniker of “The First Lady of Country Music” by becoming the first woman in country music to sell over one million albums. When Wynette released her signature single “Stand By Your Man” in 1968, it sold more than five million copies and became the largest-selling single ever recorded by a woman in country. She was the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year from 1968 to 1970, and won two Grammy Awards as well. Overall, Tammy Wynette sold more than 30 million records, grossing more than $100 million in sales, making her synonymous with country music. Though “Stand By You Man” might be her most identifiable song, Wynette often put the struggles of women into her music with songs like “D-I-V-O-R-C-E,” “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad,” and “Run Woman Run.” Wynette secured seventeen #1 songs overall. Tammy Wynette was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998, the same years she passed away at the age of 55 on April 6th. Wynette had suffered from a lifetime of health problems, which some credit for helping her put such incredible pain into so many of her performances.

I'm happy to announce my Apple Sin Whiskey is now available!  Last year I partnered with my great friend, Spencer Balentine to make our apple cinnamon flavored whiskey.  We won 1st place in the International SIP Awards for best flavored whiskey.  It's made at Silent Brigade Distillery in Paducah, KY and can be purchased using the link provided here.  For now, it can be shipped to all states except DE and TN, but we have distribution coming very soon.  That means we can get into stores, bars, etc. and will be more widely available.  I'll keep you posted and I hope you'll give it a try and let me know what you think.  Thank you to all of you who have already done so.

Georgette honors Mothers Legacy on The Grand  Ole Opry  

Singer-Songwriter  Georgette Jones , daughter of music icons Tammy Wynette and George Jones, made her 2023 Opry debut on April 6, honoring her mother’s passing twenty-five years ago. Jones will be performing My Man and Till I Can Make It On My Own. Joining her on the 6th will be Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Lauren Alaina, Lauren Mascitti, Wendy Moten, and Chuck Meade.

“The Opry and the Ryman were very important to mom,” says Jones. “She grew up listening to the Opry on WSM and always dreamed of having the honor of playing there. It really meant the world to her to stand in the circle and to be part of the Opry family. As a child, I ran the halls backstage along with many other artists’ children and grandchildren. I have the best memories being there not only for Opry appearances, but for award and TV shows as well. It was a big extended family environment that I am grateful to have experienced.” When asked if her mother had any favorite Opry memories, she recounted this story. Jones laughed and said: “Loretta, Mom, and Barbra Mandrell were all sharing a dressing room. That day was Barbra Mandrell’s anniversary, and her husband Ken had just gifted her with a pair of beautiful diamond earrings. She had misplaced them in the dressing room and panicked because she couldn’t find them. She said, ‘Ken’s going to kill me, help me find them.’ So, the three country legends got on their hands and knees intent on finding the earrings. Just then, Ken knocked on the door and stepped in, and a brutally honest Loretta blurted out ‘Barbra done lost her diamond earrings!’ and Barbra responded, ‘I told you not to tell him!’ and mom just fell on the floor hysterically laughing. In the end they found the diamond earrings, and all was well, but mom always loved to tell this story even years later. Can’t you just get the visual?”

I'm thrilled at the response to our "George and Tammy" streaming series! It officially aired on December 8th, 2022 on Showtime and Paramount+ with the Showtime bundle. After the first episode aired, it is now the most watched premiere in Showtime history over nearly fifty years. We are so proud and blessed that Mom and Dad have so many wonderful fans! Thank you all for watching and for helping all to finally see their story unfold. I want to be sure to thank Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon for all their hard work, research and dedication to their roles and to Andrew Lazar and Josh Brolin for getting in touch with me in February, 2013 to be part of this project. But, most importantly, I have to thank Abe Sylvia for his vision and love of my parent's story that drove him to create this script in such a beautiful way! He understood the importance of the truth, but yet the importance of sharing their love and vulnerability, too. They interviewed over a hundred friends, artists, family and industry people along with viewing countless documents and video. They went beyond my best expectations. She co-wrote her biography, "The Three of Us", which was about her life growing up with her famous parents.  Georgette also acted in the TV series, "Sordid Lives" along side Leslie Jordan and Olivia Newton John.  She sang on it's soundtrack, as well.  Most recently, she is concentrating on her love of gaming and on bringing Country Music into the world of gaming.  A game lover since childhood, she is now streaming and enjoys connecting with fans and other gamers online.   

Who would've thought I'd be an online streaming gamer at this point in my life, right?  Well, I've loved games for as long as I can remember.  In fact, it all started with family game nights.  Then, Atari was born.  Eventually, I was a twelve year old at the arcade playing all kinds of games.  I also loved playing games with my twin sons when they were little.  Fast forward to 2015 when my husband convinced me to play Xbox Call of Duty.  I wasn't sure if I could do it since the games in my past weren't as complex, but I decided to try.  I went from one stick and a couple buttons to two sticks and multiple buttons.  Little did I know that my passion for gaming would reignite in a big way.  We play games on our downtime from touring and recently discovered there's so much we can do with online streaming.  I started with Q&A's and some games I love and it's a great way to connect with fans and other gamers.  Right now we're streaming three days a week, but are expanding to five days a week next month.  Plus, we are excited we'll be adding VR gaming as well as musical concerts.  Many of my friends in Country music are going to join me, too, for interviews, gaming and more.  I'm really looking forward to bringing Country music into the gaming community and to having a lot of fun with all who join us. She then recorded her second duet with her Father titled, "You and Me and Time".  Georgette has performed at the Opry, the Ryman and has toured across the US, Canada and overseas.  In addition to singing and songwriting, she is also an author. She co-wrote her biography, "The Three of Us", which was about her life growing up with her famous parents. Her book was used as the basis for the recently released Showtime TV series, George and Tammy.  It's premiere was marked as the most viewed limited series in Showtime history. Georgette also consulted on the series and made a cameo in the last episode.  She played the angel version of her Mother in the TV series, "Sordid Lives" along side Leslie Jordan and Olivia Newton John and sang on it's soundtrack, as well.  Georgette currently tours performing her parents music as well as her own.

Album Review – “Skin” by Georgette Jones

The pedigree that runs curiously through country music did not pass Georgette Jones up, and her talent for singing and finding songs that embody all that’s great about the country genre is on full display on her latest record, Skin . This album has not scored the insatiable buzz some other records from women in country have this year, because to many, Georgette Jones is considered a known quantity. But she’s put a really inspired work together here with one great song after another, some excellent performances by Georgette and all the players involved, and a few really excellent guest appearances resulting in something begging to be paid more attention to, and considered one of the better titles released in all of 2019.

If you thought it was tough for Hank Williams Jr. and Rosanne Cash to live in the shadow of famous fathers and have the world lump unrealistic expectations upon their careers, imagine doubling up on that burden. That is what Georgette Jones has dealt with for her entire life. As the only child of George Jones and Tammy Wynette—and named after both—the expectations for her have been borderline insurmountable. Georgette Jones is like the daughter of country music. Add on top what a difficult relationship her two Country Music Hall of Fame parents had, and how both of their estates have been embroiled in battles of one sort or another over the years, and it’s a miracle she’s even survived.

Georgette says Skin is the record she has always wanted to make, and the results speak for themselves. The album starts off with the intimate and personal title track co-written by Georgette herself about finally finding acceptance within yourself of who you are, as opposed to seeing yourself through of the eyes of the judgemental world. Bobby Braddock, who wrote many of those legendary songs for Georgette’s parents, lends another touching song to the album about not wanting to get hurt in a relationship called “End It With Hello.” Skin really is a tour de force of songwriting, and underscores the importance of being patient and thorough in your hunt for compositions as opposed to taking what’s easy like so many performers unfortunately do. In a just world, multiple songs on this album would be radio hits.

Possibly one of the best elements of Skin is the guest appearances. We haven’t heard Vince Gill sing as enthusiastically as he does on “I Know What You Did Last Night” in years. The delicate croon and texturing Dale Watson uses to sing the well-written “Cigarettes and You” (written by Ashlee Hewitt) is the kind of care we wish Dale would expend more of on his own records. And Dean Miller might be Georgette’s Ace in the Hole on Skin . Not only does he pen three of the album’s best tracks (“Goodbye Going Down” and “Make A Little Love”), he also sings with Georgette. As both a producer and a songwriter, Dean Miller is really starting to emerge as a name you should keep tabs on if you want to be on top of some of country music’s best projects.

What you want to say when you hear the name Georgette Jones is, “Oh, I know her. George and Tammy’s kid.” But what she illustrates on Skin is that you don’t know her, you only thought you did. That’s the theme of the title track, and it couldn’t be any more true about this record. Skin may be one of the best albums released in 2019, or it may not be. That’s up for the listener to decide. But it’s certainly one of the most surprising. You dive in and are very pleasantly surprised by what the daughter of George and Tammy has turned in here. And it’s a good reminder that no matter what her name is, Georgette Jones is her own woman.

“I Know What You Did Last Night” was previously covered by Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan on their Grits & Glamour project ‘Dos Divas’ several years ago — nice to hear another take on it! 😀 I’ll definitely have to check out the rest of this.

I like Cigarettes and You- and I’m hard to please-

I think this is a great album, and she was 49 last Friday and looking good. But the album speaks for itself, a great real country album, good songs, musicians are great.

these are country songs – country arrangements , country instrumentation , country narratives , country writing , performances and production .

GJ’s vocals are a songwriter’s best friend . no affectations , no vocal pyrotechnics no battling a screaming synth or guitar on 11 or some frustrated rock drummer . like reba’s latest , the songs here make no concessions to radio’s strong-arming of artists and labels to supply trend and pop-influenced ‘science-fiction country’ for their finicky non-country demographic . these songs easily pass the ‘campfire test : one guitar ..one singer ….go . they need nothing more than the right voice to make their point and connect with us . and these ARE songs about you and I , not about how much she hates the music business and its expectations . and i like hearing COUNTRY songs about you and i .

i can’t honestly say i was familiar with GJ’s music . i am now ….and not a minute too soon

Georgette is a absolute treasure we were at Music City bar and grill Nashville after the Opry she did a couple of songs with the band our friend was in toilet door jammed in cubicle she hears does it all the time stand back Georgette kicked in the cubicle door our hero

Georgette is the Country Music’s Princess!! Love her!! She’s definitely inherited and has music in her blood, but she’s found her own voice while staying true to country music. I’ll play this cd in the car as I travel. And I’m very picky about what I listen to.

I can’t stop listening to it great album bar none Georgette you are hot great vocals great instrument arrangements all the way around great album fun to listen too.

I noticed that no credit was given to Dale Watson, who just happens to be one of the most underrated country performers in the business. Dale is a terrific vocalist, guitarist, and song writer. I believe he works out of the Austin, Texas area. Great job Dale!

Georgette Jones has strong ties to the Showtime limited series George & Tammy : Not only is it about her parents and based on the book she wrote, but she’ll also appear in the final episode.

The 52-year-old daughter of the country music legends said as she was preparing to visit the set of the series, producers asked her if she’d want to make an appearance.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. I am not an actress but I will happily pretend to be one,’” Jones tells THR . “If they want to put me somewhere — it would be so much fun to be able to do that.”

George & Tammy is based on her 2011 memoir, The Three of Us: Growing Up With Tammy and George . She said filming her scenes was fun and pleasant — but also sentimental.

“I was swept up in a very emotional state of mind during the whole thing. It was strange, knowing that I’m on a simulated bus with what’s supposed to be my parents and their band, but at the same moment, being able to see the scene play out and know what’s happening, listening to the music and listening to the words of the song, and knowing how this is ending the series — it was very, very emotional,” Jones says. “I think it hit me full swing when we finished filming it. I just broke down at the end because it was just a release of all that emotion building up for that scene.”

The six-episode show debuted in December. It chronicles Wynette and George Jones’ complicated yet stirring relationship and the hits they produced, including Wynette’s signature classic, “Stand by Your Man.”

Jones says playing a backup singer for her parents onscreen was something she was used to doing in real life.

Chastain’s performance in George & Tammy earned her a nomination for best actress in a limited series at the 2023 Golden Globes, which take place Tuesday. Jones says she approved of Chastain and Shannon’s portrayals of her parents.

“I think they did an incredible job. I really, really do — both with the music and with the acting,” she says. 

“Jessica has really been our champion for this entire process,” Jones continues of the Oscar winner, who also serves as an executive producer on the series. “I’m so thankful that she not only signed on, but stuck with it. And there were times where different people at different times, before we got to where we were in the end, were trying to suggest things and wanted it to go in a different direction. And Jessica and [show creator] Abe [Sylvia] and [EP] Andrew [Lazar] all really pushed for an honest portrayal, not just some of the glamorous things on the road. And it meant a lot to me that she pushed for that. She wanted us to have an accurate and real story of my mom and my dad.”

Since Gunna ‘s release from jail last year after being arrested as part of the Young Thug YSL RICO case in 2022, the Atlanta rapper has become one of hip-hop’s most polarizing figures. Some rap fans have accused Gunna of being a snitch in regards to Young Thug, who was also taken into custody and is currently on trial , while others continue to praise Gunna’s artistry. The 30-year-old rhymer has undergone both a physical and mental transformation as a free man. “I work out six days a week,” Gunna tells XXL . “I eat better. I eat clean. And that’s something I’m disciplining myself to do every day.” He also reveals that complaints or worries are far from his mind. He’s got more important matters like his upcoming fifth album, One of Wun , to focus on. Gunna opens up about what to expect from the forthcoming project.

While he’s in a better space these days, everyone wants to know if Gunna is aware of the chatter around his name and snitching accusations. Gunna addresses if he sees what the people are saying about him. He also has a response for artists like Lil Durk , 21 Savage and Lil Baby , among others, who have either commented about him being a snitch or alluded to it in songs or on social media posts. One thing he’s firm on: Gunna believes people are being misled.
