'Barbie' Global Tour Will Take Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling to Eight Cities Around the World

Grab your rollerblades, Barbie and Ken are coming to a city near you.

What's Barbie About?

While the iconic doll has had her fair share of animated films for at-home viewing, this will be the first time a live-action adaptation will make its way into theaters. Starring Robbie and Gosling as the film’s main Barbie and Ken, respectively, the storyline follows Barbie after she’s been booted from Barbieland, given no choice but to make it in the real world. Boasting a star-studded cast, the film will also feature performances by Simu Liu , Kate McKinnon , John Cena , Dua Lipa , Issa Rae , Rhea Perlman , Will Ferrell , Kingsley Ben-Adir , Michael Cera , and so many more. The third feature from Gerwig, Barbie follows the director’s successful and Academy Award-nominated films, Lady Bird and Little Women .

We all know that the plot of this summer's Barbie movie (in theaters July 21) revolves around Barbie and Ken swapping Barbie's Dreamhouse for the real world. (Although, if we're honest, we'd love to swap our world for Barbieland for a bit). And thanks to the newest announcement from Barbie the Movie 's Instagram, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (who play Barbie and Ken, respectively) will be taking a trip around our world, just like their characters.

"You don't have to go all the way to Barbieland to hang with Barbie and Ken," Robbie says in the promo.

"Margot and I are taking this show on the road," Gosling adds.

The film hits theaters on July 21, but the Barbie team is doing more than just one big premiere — they're doing eight premieres. Films often host premieres in different countries, allowing fans all over the world to be a part of the experience. And Barbie the Movie is no different.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will embark on a world tour that, in addition to the usual New York City and Los Angeles, includes six more cities:

Toronto, Canada
Sydney, Australia
Seoul, South Korea
Mexico City, Mexico
London, England
Berlin, Germany

Not only does the promo give us that exciting news, but it also features some amazing fashion choices, just like we've seen throughout the entire promotional process. From CinemaCon to showing the cast their own IRL Barbie dolls , the fashion choices have put creativity at the forefront. Well, creativity and pink, of course.

We're obsessed with Robbie's corset and mini skirt (a combo fit for a Barbie doll if you ask us). Gosling is also rocking pink, just a more laidback salmon that will definitely influence our next swimsuit cover up purchase.

And, just like us, the pair also has their summer packing list top of mind: "Are you packing your roller blades?" Robbie asks, to which Gosling gives her a smirk. "You know I can't roller blade in real life."

The premiere of the highly anticipated Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig , premiered in London on Wednesday evening (12 July), and the pink carpet did not disappoint.

Fans queued for hours for the premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square, awaiting the chance to see their favourite celebrities bring their Barbie best to the star-studded event.

There were high expectations for Margot Robbie , who plays the lead doll, to up the ante on her outfit for the night. The star has been praised for all of her Barbie-inspired looks during the global press tour, as she became known for recreating some of the world’s most famous doll’s iconic outfits.

Other cast members who dazzled on the pink carpet included Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken, America Ferrera, Dua Lipa, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, and Sharon Rooney.

A flurry of UK celebrities also appeared at the premiere, including former Love Island winners Ekin-Su and Davide, who recently broke up, and Liberty Poole.

Presenters including Rylan Clark and Amelia Dimoldenberg were also in attendance, with the latter replicating a truly iconic (and apt) Barbie look for her role as host on the pink carpet.

Here are our favourite looks from the Barbie premiere in London.

Margot Robbie

The Australian actor floored fans when she stepped onto the pink carpet in a pale pink custom Vivienne Westwood gown with a white trimmed neckline and opera gloves. The look replicated that of the 1960 Enchanted Evening Barbie, continuing Robbie’s streak of emulating the doll’s most famous outfits during the film’s press tour. She accessorised with a pearl choker and barely-there glittery heels, and swept her hair in an elegant updo.

Amelia Dimoldenberg

The Chicken Shop Date presenter, who was hosting the pink carpet, took a leaf out of Robbie’s book and replicated another Barbie look. Dimoldenberg arrived dressed as I Can Be… News Anchor Barbie, complete with a pink tweed jacket with black trim, a satin skirt with a ruffle hem and a blonde wig with a side-swept fringe that looked exactly like the doll’s. Sharing her look, Dimoldenberg tweeted: “Never do anything by halves.”

America Ferrera

The Ugly Betty star looked stunning in a plunging black Roland Mouret dress encrusted in rhinestones, with sheer black opera globes and a black clutch. She completed the look with heels from Giuseppe Zanotti. Sharing her look, as well as some fun selfies with the rest of the cast, on Instagram, Ferrera said: “London Barbie premiere [black heart emoji] [disco ball emoji] Fun with some faves.”

Nicola Coughlan

Derry Girls star Coughlan was dripping in sparkle when she stepped onto the pink carpet in a stunning custom Wiederhoeft dress, featuring a square neckline and finger loop sleeves that created a dramatic effect. Her red hair was kept off her face and styled with low-key, but classic waves, and she wore silver heels to top off the look.

The “One Kiss” singer wore a colourful Versace chainmail gown from the label’s La Vacanza collection, which Lipa co-designed. The slinky dress featured a neon butterfly and floral print and gold chain straps. She continued the garden theme by accessorising with ladybug charms and butterfly brooches, as well as silver stilettos with butterfly appliques.

The actor went against the grain on the pink carpet by appearing in a more goth-inspired look. Nef, who plays a Barbie in the film, wore a black dress by Dilara Findikoglu with a high neck and cap sleeves, and covered in… cutlery? Silver butter knives created an unusual silhouette for Nef, who completed the stand-out look with nude heels and short red hair.

Kens aren’t meant to stand out in Barbie’s universe, but Simu Liu tossed that rule out the window with his all-black Fendi ensemble at the premiere. At first glance, his outfit might appear monotonous, but a closer look reveals a halter neck top and trousers with delicate floral embroidery and a black jumper tied casually around his shoulders. Liu also wore platform boots, a Ben Baller gold chain and an Audemars Piguet watch.

Ncuti Gatwa

Did someone say “hotpants”? Sex Education star Gatwa certainly heard the call, as he turned up on the pink carpet in a custom Valentino look, featuring a dramatic white cape, a very low-cut, long-sleeved top and super-short sparkly silver shorts. Never one to blend into the background, he capped off the eye-popping look with a custom white hat by Maison Michel Austin and chunky black shoes, as well as a silver necklace from Tiffany & Co.

Greta Gerwig

The film’s director joined the event in a Barbiecore pale pink Erdem gown and matching cape. The cape’s neckline was encrusted with silver rhinestones and she carried a small silver clutch from Jimmy Choo to match. This is only the second time Gerwig has worn pink on the Barbie press tour, with the first being a vibrant pink Valentino dress with a matching blazer, bag and studded pumps.

50 shades of pink! A breakdown of Margot Robbie’s best Barbie world tour outfits

If ever there was a brand synonymous with pink , it’s Barbie . As such, there’s no surprise that Margot Robbie , who plays the doll in the forthcoming eponymous movie directed by Greta Gerwig , has embraced the shade at every stage of the global press tour. With the help of her stylist Andrew Mukamal, the Australian actress has taken inspiration, and in some cases custom pieces, from some iconic designers including Valentino, Versace and Chanel.

Last night in London at the film’s UK premiere the actress brought to life 1960 ‘Enchanted Evening’ Barbie (later reproduced in the mid-90s), alongside championing leading British label, Vivienne Westwood. Tapping the brand to create a custom-made corseted dress, in blush-pink satin, styled with a Marilyn Monroe-style white stole.

One of the few departures from pink in Robbie’s tour-drobe, was at the Barbie world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in downtown Los Angeles last weekend, with the 33-year-old wearing black as she recreated the original Barbie ‘Solo in the Spotlight’ doll from the same year (1960). The sparkling strapless gown, which was custom Schiaparelli, included a ‘trumpet’ tulle hemline complete with a red rose, while Robbie accessorised with long black opera gloves and a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker.

Her earliest promo event for Barbie was in April, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Robbie clearly started as she meant to go on in a pink and white gingham Prada cropped bustier and wrap miniskirt set with her hair swept into a side parting. She wore the Me Dolly Louboutin peep-toes in pink (and not for the last time). A peep-toe pump from Christian Louboutin or Manolo Blahnik is fast becoming a footwear staple on the press tour.

Robbie has been ambassador for Chanel since 2018, while Mukamal is a celebrity stylist and former staffer for the fashion desk at Seventeen magazine. He has worked with the likes of Zoe Kravitz, Kaia Gerber and Lily-Rose Depp. His Instagram is testament to his versatility as a stylist, from denim basics on Hailey Bieber for a Levis sitting, to classic red-carpet glamour for Carey Mulligan. His work with Robbie for Barbie is meticulously observed, consistently on point, and packed with historical references.

There are no days off, with Robbie channelling Barbiecore even in transit

The LA press call for Barbie, for example, saw Robbie in a bespoke pink and white polka dot dress with a crossover bodice made bespoke by Valentino; a look inspired by 2015’s Pink & Fabulous doll. She carried a Valentino rockstud shoulder bag and wore white Blahnik stilettos. However, the best accessory was surely her pink and white open-top Chevrolet.

The car was also the backdrop to another flawless ensemble — a two-piece custom-set featuring a pleated mini and bralette, a small, woven tote by Bottega Veneta and Blahnik peep toes.

Through the tour, it’s clear Robbie is keen to celebrate Barbie in every era. The doll’s 1959 origin look was replicated in Sydney on the Australian leg of the press tour, with a custom-made black and white striped bandeau dress by Herve Leger. Robbie’s hair was swept off her face ahe she accessorised with black peep-toe Blahnik pumps and white ‘cat eye’ Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses.

She served up more 50s on Bondi Beach in a Moschino halter neck, belted minidress with a juicy strawberry motif pattern from Jeremy Scott’s 2019 collection, completed with white sunglasses, bag and peep-toe Louboutins.

Then the 1990s came calling and Robbie answered via Versace, in a look first showcased by supermodel Christy Turlington some 30 years ago. This consisted of a cropped, rollneck woollen sweater, bright pink socks and white patent loafers.

She leant further into Versace’s archives and wore a dazzling pale pink couture dress from the autumn/winter 1994 collection with a fitted corset and flared skater-style skirt.

At the Seoul press conference, Robbie wore an acid bright Moschino suit from the brand’s spring/summer 2015 collection complete with a super-kitsch, heart-shaped bag and pillbox hat. Then, at the film’s Seoul premiere, Robbie transformed into ‘business Barbie’, borrowing the look from one of the 1980s most iconic dolls. In a pencil skirt and blazer, clutching a glittery ‘brick’ mobile phone, it was corporate, but make it Barbie.

The Mexico City photocall saw Robbie in a printed Emilio Pucci minidress with Chanel earrings and handbag in different shades of pink. Her hair was loose with waves: the entire look was a clear ode to the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie.

Later, for the Mexico City premiere, Robbie wore a bodycon Balmain mini dress made from leather and mesh with a silver belt detail and star motif earrings. The look was inspired by another 1990s doll the “Earring Magic” Barbie.

Robbie — and Mukamal — have not only understood the assignment, but they are also consistently overdelivering in the run up to the film’s release. There are no days off, with Robbie channeling Barbiecore even in transit. She has been seen wheeling baby pink luggage through the airport in Sydney and, on another occasion, embracing a more relaxed travel aesthetic in an oversized pink Gucci x Adidas sweatshirt and stacked platform sliders.

The best thing about all of this pink, peep-toe promotion is that it let’s us know exactly what sartorial delights we can expect in the film itself. Watch this space.

Barbie in real life: Los Angeles among 8 stops for global ‘Barbie' movie tour

You don't have to wait until "Barbie" hits the big screen to hang out with Barbie and Ken.

Margot Robbie, who plays the pint-sized plastic icon, and Ryan Gosling, who plays Barbie's boyfriend, announced Monday they will embark on an eight city global Barbie tour.

The duo will make appearances in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City, London and Berlin to promote the upcoming film's release.

"Margot and I are taking this show on the road," Gosling said in a video posted to the film's Instagram account .

Details on how or when Barbie fans could get tickets to the global Barbie tour were not immediately released, but fans can expect lots of pink .

In the official movie trailer, Barbie experiences an existential crisis that serves as the catalyst for her and Ken to leave picture perfect Barbie Land for the "real world." The star-studded cast also includes Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon.

The live-action Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, hits theaters July 21.

This Barbie is thrilled to learn the Barbie movie’s repertoire of promotional gimmicks will now include a world tour.

The film’s leads, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, announced the surprise in a video on social media. “You don’t have to go all the way to Barbieland to hang with Barbie and Ken,” Robbie revealed.

The two actors will be hitting the road to celebrate the movie of the summer with eager fans. They will look to visit eight cities around the world for the global Barbie movie tour.

“Come see us in Toronto *pause for effect* Canada,” Gosling, our sweet Canadian Ken, proudly confirmed. Other tour stops include Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, and New York.

No further details have been revealed about the tour, but it sounds like it could be in addition to the typical movie premieres and geared more towards the public rather than just for media and industry.

One thing we do know? The two actors will not pack their neon roller skates for the trip. “You know I can’t rollerblade in real life,” Gosling sheepishly whispered to Robbie.

If these tour stops will be half as fun as the banter between these two, sign us up!

In addition to a global tour, British Vogue has released new stills from the Barbie movie .

Photographed by Jaap Buitendijk, the images shed light on the role fashion and sets will play in the film. Robbie’s Barbie sports her 1950s-inspired beach look, a pink gingham sundress, as she stands on the pool’s surface — because the bright blue water is plastic!

We also get a closer look at the 1994-inspired neon roller skating costumes, the sea-worthy looks from Ken and Barbie’s travel montage, and an up-close shot of the matching cowboy/cowgirl ensembles that set the internet spiraling during filming.

Perhaps the most intriguing of the bunch is our look at Barbie’s dopey dreamboat sidekick, Ken. We see Gosling hard at work in the garage, his arm muscles smeared with grease and the car’s “Ken” license plate proudly displayed next to a horse stuffy (seemingly a key symbol of the Kens in this film).

Barbie takes over London as major landmarks get huge pink makeover for European premiere

The Barbie press tour has officially landed in London, and some of the capital’s biggest landmarks have had a Barbie Land makeover!

Ahead of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s arrival for the pink carpet at tonight’s (12th July) European Premiere of Barbie, the likes of the London Eye and Tower Bridge have styled out a brand new look especially for the event.

London’s black cabs have even been ‘Barbie-fied’ with bright pink imagery, so expect to see Barbie (and just Ken) riding around the City, as well as huge billboards with eye-catching blush colours.

The first landmark to get a taste of Barbie World was Tower Bridge, which received its very own hot pink Tardis, perfect for an incoming Doctor Who!

The beloved BBC franchise even got in on the fun, sharing a photo of the unmissable set-up with the caption: “Come on TARDIS, let’s go party.”

While it might seem rather random, there is some logic behind the inclusion of a 60-year-old sci-fi series. Incoming Doctor Ncuti Gatwa will appear as one of many Kens in Barbie before embarking on his Tardis journey.

Meanwhile, the infamous Barbie car made its way down to the London Eye, which will no doubt capture the attention of those on the dizzyingly-high attraction.

Finally, who can skip out on including a brilliant pink pun? Well it seems that the whole of Barbican has had the Barbie treatment too, with the Underground signs taken over by rose-coloured lettering to indicate that you have just arrived at ‘Barbie-can’.

Speaking to the publication about the incredible pink explosion across London, Alexandra Lewis, SVP for Marketing at Warner Bros, said: “Barbie is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and we’re proud to be partnering with Visit London to create a unique cultural moment for the film: turning the city pink!

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide the general public with a chance to celebrate the film’s upcoming release in such a fun way and visit iconic landmarks in what will surely be a night to remember.”

Ryan Gosling's 'The Fall Guy' is a love letter to stunt performers

LONDON (Reuters) - After serving "Kenergy" with "Barbie", actor Ryan Gosling turns the spotlight on the movie-makers whose job is to shine on screen while remaining invisible in "The Fall Guy".

The film is inspired by the popular 1980s TV series of the same name and stars Gosling as Colt Seavers, a top Hollywood stuntman down on his luck after an on-set accident.

An ambitious film producer (Hannah Waddingham) manages to pull Colt out of his self-imposed post-injury isolation in order to rescue the directorial debut of the love of his life, Jody (Emily Blunt), following the disappearance of the film's leading man, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).

Life starts imitating his art as Colt tries to track down the vanished superstar and lands in the middle of a criminal plot. The stuntman has to put on his best performance both on and off the screen to save Jody's movie - and himself.

"I've benefited from the work of stunt people my whole career. They come in and they take the hits for you and then get none of the credit. That ends here. Hopefully the whole conversation is different after this film," Gosling said as he attended the movie's premiere in London on Monday.

"It's completely a love letter to stunt performers and the magic of what they create in movies. It's a love letter to crews and making films," added Blunt.

"The Fall Guy", which was shot in Sydney, Australia, is directed by David Leitch, a former stunt double to stars including Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, and director of "Bullet Train", "Deadpool 2" and "Atomic Blonde".

Many of its daring action scenes were shot with real in-camera stunts and during filming Gosling's stunt double Logan Holladay set a Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls in a car. The classic stunt sees an apparatus fitted beneath a car that propels it into a series of rolls at a designated speed. Holladay's 8.5 rolls broke Adam Kirley's 2006 record of 7 in "Casino Royale."

"It was a mandate to do some old-school classic stunts and blow them out as big as possible,” said Leitch. "The record was written in the script. We wrote it in the script to throw down the gauntlet and challenge the stunt team to come with it, and I think they did," said Leitch, 48.

Stunt coordinator Chris O'Hara was given a "stunt designer" credit on the project in what the creators said was an industry first and an acknowledgement of the multifaceted nature of his job.

"Hopefully it sheds light to the Academy, that maybe someday we might be able to be up for an Academy Award, just like all of our other department heads in the business," said O'Hara.

"This industry's backbone is the action movie. It's the movie that travels the most internationally. It's time that they're celebrated for what they contribute," added actor Winston Duke.

"The Fall Guy"'s global cinematic rollout begins on April 24.

The torture is over for fans who waited weeks and months for Taylor Swift ’s “ The Tortured Poets Department ” to arrive. But the truly faithful still have some work ahead, in trying to decode what or who is the subject of each of the 16 songs (plus four bonus tracks). Even without immediately solving all those mysteries, though, the album is filled with lines that are bold and striking (and sometimes funny).

Here is our guide to the most quotable lyrics from every song on the standard edition of “The Tortured Poets Department,” plus some of the bonus tracks. (Additionally, we’ve broken down some of the lyrics of the surprise double album .)

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT

A fairly blissful love song — destined not to last, in the overall arc of the album. Speaking of things that people don’t get over, Charlie Puth may never get over this shout-out.

The singer brightens at being considered marriage material, even if it’s only hinted at in a toying way.

At dinner you take my ring off my middle finger and put it on the one people put wedding rings on And it’s the closest I’ve come to my heart exploding

The first of the album’s many F-bombs appears, albeit in a sweet way in this first instance.

MY BOY ONLY BREAKS HIS FAVORITE TOYS

The first of the true breakup songs has the singer feeling like Weird Barbie.

Crying at the gym Everything comes out teenage petulance Fuck it if I can’t have him

SO LONG, LONDON

Anyone who’s spent years in an ultimately failed relationship, maybe especially women, will have a line to relate to here.

I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free

The singer references an altar where she was never joined… and rues having to break up with a city as well as a bloke.

You swore that you loved me but where were the clues? I died on the altar waiting for the proof You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days And I’m just getting color back into my face I’m just mad as hell ‘cause I loved this place For so long, London Had a good run

BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM

One of the album’s most comical and upbeat songs has her quoting the title line lifted from “The Little Mermaid,” and faking her folks out with some good/bad news.

Now I’m running with my dress unbuttoned Screaming “But daddy I love him” I’m having his baby No, I’m not, but you should see your faces

Things get more serious as the narrator spits fire at anyone who clutches pearls and judges her for hooking up with a bad boy.

I’d rather burn my whole life down Then listen to one more second to this bitching and moaning I’ll tell you something about my good name It’s mine alone to disgrace I don’t cater to all these vipers dressed in empath’s clothing

Another serious keeper, along those same lines:

God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see

FRESH OUT THE SLAMMER

The title phrase is comical, but Swift’s description of a long prison sentence, i.e. years spent with a fickle jailer, sounds dead-serious.

Handcuffed to the spell I was under For just one hour of sunshine Years of labor, locks and ceilings In the shade of how he was feeling But it’s gonna be alright I did my time

She sings about ignoring good advice from those who wanted her to go for parole a lot earlier:

My friends tried but I wouldn’t hear it Watched me daily disappearing For just one glimpse of his smile

Not a love song, but a song about escaping bad or boring circumstances by relocating (metaphorically or otherwise). Here comes the album’s single funniest line…

My friends all smell like weed or little babies

…which is soon followed by the album’s second funniest line, shared as a twin lead vocal with Florence from Florence + the Machine:

Fuck me up, Florida

GUILTY AS SIN?

It’s not clear if Swift deliberately means to reference her own song “Mine” here, but the sensual fantasy that she’s bringing to life works either way:

What if he’s written ‘Mine” on my upper thigh only in my mind?

Religious imagery comes to the fore as she looks for redemption in perceived sin.

WHO’S AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME

In one of the few non-love songs on the album, Swift harks back to songs where she riffed on the bad image people have had of her, from “Blank Space” to “Mad Woman.”

I was tame I was gentle till the circus life made me mean Don’t you worry folks, we took out all her teeth Who’s afraid of little old me? Well, you should be

Moving on from the circus, she proudly paints herself as the town witch:

That I’ll sue you if you step onto my lawn That I’m fearsome and I’m wretched and I’m wrong Put narcotics into all of my songs And that’s why you’re still singing along

I CAN FIX HIM (NO, REALLY I CAN)

Swift references a lover known for his inappropriate humor. Sound like anyone in her past life we know?

The jokes that he told across the bar were revolting and far too loud They shake their heads saying, “God help her” when I tell ‘em he’s my man But your good Lord doesn’t need to lift a finger I can fix him (no really I can) And only I can

Her argument about being able to rehabilitate a guy falls apart with one nearly tossed-off final line:

Woah maybe I can’t

Before she gets into a relationship that has more recently devastated her, she looks back to a previous one, in which she feels she sacrificed deep romance or passion for stability.

I thought I was better safe than starry-eyed

With this newer guy, she cleverly mixes language usually reserved to describe mutually getting drunk with language about the promise of marriage and family.

You shit-talked me under the table talking rings and talking cradles

And then come accusations of cowardice and casual ghosting:

Oh what a valiant roar What a bland goodbye The coward claimed he was a lion I’m combing through the braids of lies “I’ll never leave” “Never mind”

I CAN DO IT WITH A BROKEN HEART

The most upbeat track on the album is about smiling through tears — presumably meaning the giant smile that was the Eras Tour, during which, it’s clear, she was nursing a broken heart for at least part of the early going.

I’m so depressed I act like it’s my birthday Every day

She finds a reason to be cocky as well as depressed in the song’s big finish.

You know you’re good when you can do it With a broken heart And I’m good Cause I’m miserable And nobody even knows! Try and come for my job

THE SMALLEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED

The details get remarkably specific in the song that may count as her most dramatic cut-down of an ex ever.

You tried to buy some pills from a friend of friends of mine They just ghosted you Now you know what it feels like

And I don’t even want you back, I just want to know If rusting my sparkling summer was the goal

Looking for motives of a hit-and-run lover, she can only imagine ulterior ones.

Were you writing a book? Were you a sleeper cell spy? In 50 years will all this be declassified? And you’ll confess why you did it And I’ll say “good riddance” Cause it wasn’t sexy once it wasn’t forbidden

The fusillade continues:

You crashed my party and your rental car You said normal girls were “boring” But you were gone by the morning You are what you did And I’ll forget you But I’ll never forgive The smallest man who ever lived

THE ALCHEMY

Back to love songs, she makes a curious reference to possible past drug use, in setting up a common play on words.

He jokes that it’s heroin but this time with an “E”

But then come sports team metaphors… if not written more recently than a lot of the rest of the album, then possibly coincidentally prophetic.

Shirts off and your friends lift you up over their heads Beer sticking to the floor Cheers chanted cause they said There was no chance Trying to be the greatest in the league Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me

The entire lyrics to this song are set off in quotes, coming from the points of view of people who look up to starlets but demand they be non-stop dazzling. Swift references silent screen star Clara Bow in the first verse and Stevie Nicks in the second before finally getting around to name-checking a third superstar.

“You look like Taylor Swift In this light We’re loving it You’ve got edge She never did”

BONUS TRACK: THE BLACK DOG

Thanks to shared location tracking that never got turned off, the narrator gets evidence her recent ex has just entered a bar called the Black Dog, where, apparently, they would have memories of hearing songs by the 2000s pop-punk band the Starting Line.

And I hope it’s shitty in the Black Dog When someone plays The Starting Line And you jump up, but she’s too young To know this song that was intertwined In the tragic fabric of our dreaming Cause tail between your legs You’re leaving

BONUS TRACK: THE MANUSCRIPT

The singer quotes a sweet-talker who was equally good with promissory bedroom talk and baby talk.

He said that if the sex was half as good as the conversation was Soon they’d be pushing strollers But soon it was over

An age difference is brought up, as it’s clear this song is describing a relationship that happened in youth, in the narrator’s case. She’s still trying to figure out how inappropriate the disparity was.

Then she dated boys who were her own age With dartboards on the backs of their doors She thought about how he said Since she was so wise beyond her years Everything had been above board She wasn’t sure
