Korea Travel Fest 2023 guides participants to discover the charms of K-Culture for themselves

Kuala Lumpur, 1 November 2023 - South Korea has undeniably cast an enchanting spell upon millions worldwide, transcending borders with its captivating culture. This is true even in Malaysia, where the passion Malaysians have for K-culture is phenomenal, to say the least.

This was proven at the recent Korea Travel Fest 2023, held on 28 and 29 October at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which transported visitors into the heart of South Korea through an immersive K-experience that fanned the flame for all things Korean.

Korea Travel Fest 2023 took place from 28 – 29 October at KLCC Convention Centre.

A K-celebration like no other

Hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, the Korea Travel Fest 2023 marked an invitation for participants to embark on a journey to South Korea, in conjunction with Visit Korea Year 2023 - 2024.

"The Korea Travel Fest 2023 coincides with the two-year Visit Korea Year campaign that is currently in full swing in 2023 and 2024. During this two-year period, the Korea Tourism Organization is offering a myriad of events, travel packages, and promotional campaigns that use the allure of K-culture to entice visitors to our beautiful country. Simply put, Visit Korea Year 2023-2024 is an invitation to revel in K-culture all year round, and we are thrilled to extend this invitation to our Malaysian friends," said Mr. Moon Sangho, Managing Director of the Korea Tourism Organisation.

The festival featured all things Korean. Day 1 of the festival wrapped with an enchanting and soul-stirring experience, featuring a heartwarming concert from South Korean artists such as Soyou, Kassy, Car The Garden, and Vincent Blue, who serenaded the audience with OST songs from beloved K-dramas, creating a delightful musical experience.

Meanwhile, on Day 2, the spotlight shone on South Korean singer, artist, and songwriter, Kim Jaejoong. His captivating exclusive concert and the special session where he shared personal stories and answered curious questions left the audience in awe. It was an evening that deepened the audience's connection with South Korea.

But the Korea Travel Fest 2023 was more than just music and K-pop. It was a gateway to the captivating world of South Korean culture, heritage and traditions - a kaleidoscope of experiences that left visitors craving more. The festival also showcased everything from travel insights from travel partners and organisations, as well as a host of activities, offering the opportunity to explore regional Korean tourism destinations.

Visitors were mesmerized with various travel talk shows and cooking demonstrations during Korea Travel Fest 2023.

Meanwhile, carefully curated K-Beauty, K-Content, and K-Food Zones transported attendees to the heart of South Korea's beauty, media, and culinary delights, creating a yearning to immerse themselves in these aspects of K-Culture. Visitors also had the chance to win exclusive concert passes and flight tickets, enticing them to discover the magic of South Korea for themselves.

Visitors had the chance to take part in exciting games and workshops at the Korea Travel Fest 2023.

Down with the fest, now for the rest!

More than being a festivity-filled celebration, the Korea Travel Fest 2023 successfully forged connections and ignited a desire to explore South Korea among participants. The multifaceted activities and performances celebrated the bond shared between Malaysia and Korea, and served as an invitation to discover all of South Korea's rich heritage and its allure.

Indeed, South Korea's appeal is truly unlike any other, from the dazzling metropolis of Seoul that blends modern skyscrapers and ancient palaces; to the natural paradise of Jeju Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a haven for nature lovers; to the coastal city of Busan, which presents a delightful blend of urban life and seaside charm; to the K-fashion capital of Dongdaemun, a bustling fashionista's paradise replete with shopping malls, boutiques, and street stalls.

There are also lesser-known hidden gems to explore such as the Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae, commonly known as the Blue House, which was recently opened to the public, offering insights into South Korean culture and history. Meanwhile, for Malaysians looking for a winter holiday, head to the Gangwon State for a variety of fun and exciting winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snow sledding, and ice fishing.

All this and more await visitors in South Korea, where there is something to appeal to just about everyone. Whether you are seeking cultural experiences, natural wonders, urban exploration, or culinary delights, South Korea has it all.

So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your unforgettable holiday in South Korea today. Even better, travellers can enjoy a range of exclusive deals on hotels, attractions and flights with Korea Travel Fest's partners such as Agoda, Klook, Air Asia, Batik Air and Korean Air. The best time to visit is during Visit Korea Year 2023-2024. Visit any time of the year as each season brings its own unique charm, from cherry blossoms in spring to vibrant autumn foliage, and the magic of winter snowscapes. South Korea welcomes you all year-round with open arms, ready to reveal its wonders to every traveller.

ATEEZ’s 2024 World Tour Ticket Prices Shock Fans

korea travel fest ticket

After successfully making history as the first K-Pop boy group to perform at the Coachella music festival, ATEEZ announced their highly anticipated 2024 ATEEZ WORLD TOUR [TOWARDS THE LIGHT : WILL TO POWER] IN NORTH AMERICA, which will kick off on July 14 in Tacoma, WA.

korea travel fest ticket

ATINYs have discovered one trusted source through Gas South District ‘s website, as ATEEZ’s Atlanta date is on July 31 at Gas South Arena in Duluth, GA. If you click on the seating chart, you’ll see the arrangement as well as ticket prices for each section.

New updated chart for ATEEZ at Gas south in Duluth 👀 same prices but extended stage added thankfully #ateez #TowardsTheLight #Will_To_Power https://t.co/v54gMgdMEN pic.twitter.com/ip03MFrIxa — Kpop Community in Atl (@KpopxAtlanta) April 24, 2024

The prices range from $105.07 to $738.70 USD, without fees. The highest-priced ticket is for VIP 1. ATINYs were left shocked by the ticket prices and concerned about how much their total would be.

whats crazy is that their vips are more than enhypen AND txt…. vip1 better include hitouch or a group photo plus send off and soundcheck cause aint no way $740 is for soundcheck only pic.twitter.com/GwiuKMYXWi — ⁷ (@bambamstrash) April 23, 2024
@02econds WHAT IS LITERALLY GOING ON WITH THESE TICKETS?! MY MENTAL CANT HANDLE THIS ANYMORE #atinys #ateez_official_ #02econds #ateez #ateezworldtour #ateeztour2024 #ateezticketprices #greenscreen ♬ original sound – 0:02s

ATINYs joked about the potential VIP benefits one must receive to warrant such an expensive price. Some proposed it should include personal one-on-one interactions with an ATEEZ member.

For these prices I better be sitting in the chairs for cyberpunk pic.twitter.com/WF9FhGFNV4 — bre〜★⁷ met mingi (T ^ T) (@SmolBangtanXx) April 24, 2024
For everyone confused on the VIP tiers and ticket pricing I emailed Gas South about the VIP packages and here’s what they had to say!!! pic.twitter.com/eeRAg5zcLm — THATS MY ATEEZ (@twilightskat) April 24, 2024

According to Gas South, VIP1 includes VIP Check-in and entry, first early access to the GA floor, sound check, send-off, limited edition gift, VIP laminate and lanyard, and early access to merchandise, while VIP2 includes nearly everything but send-off and early access to merchandise. The tickets include no Meet & Greet.

Screen Shot 2024-04-24 at 1.03.08 PM

Naturally, ATINYs are disappointed by the news. The tickets have only increased in price since previous tours. Yet, now the VIP tickets have even fewer benefits.

you guys want me to pay $700-$1000 without even being guaranteed barricade 😭when these were my past views for way less? paid $130 paid $481 pic.twitter.com/OlBnXm9XLV — ☆ 윤호‘s Tara ☆ (@yunhosfloweer) April 24, 2024
remember when ateez first tour was $121 for vip with hi touch 🥹 pic.twitter.com/EHp4xjUJVb — ⁷ (@bambamstrash) April 24, 2024

ATINYs are reminiscing over ATEEZ North American tours of the past. VIP tickets were over half the cost of this year’s. Some paid just over $100 USD for VIP, including interactions with members, which is now the price of the cheapest, most basic concert ticket.

you guys want me to pay $800 without even being guaranteed barricade 😭 when these were my past views for way less? paid $250 paid $370 pic.twitter.com/po45hRWRGU — 🪷 sangwoo’s gf ♡⁺¹ (@lovelyyungi) April 24, 2024
We used to be a proper society … pic.twitter.com/FF6eoQEUo2 — Nini 🍉🇷🇪⭐️ (@moonjoonghwa) April 23, 2024
I just think it’s crazy that this is how much I paid to be barricade at the last Ateez tour pic.twitter.com/ggSh78Uwrw — ness (@plantedherb) April 24, 2024

ATINYs also can’t help but compare the North American ticket prices to ATEEZ’s for other locations, such as South Korea. Yet, knowing how much it costs to travel besides the increase in Visa fees , it shouldn’t be a surprise that the North American tour costs as much as it does.

the way tickets in korea were like $200 and we have to pay $800 pic.twitter.com/Po69vPjBM0 — ⋆ (@imyunhoo) April 23, 2024

Many ATINYs fear for this tour after seeing the alleged prices of tickets. Some are now questioning whether to go or not. What do you think? Will you still attend 2024 ATEEZ WORLD TOUR [TOWARDS THE LIGHT : WILL TO POWER] IN NORTH AMERICA ?

Nevada Today

Harp fest returns to university of nevada, reno may 3, an annual concert in celebration of the harp returns to the university of nevada, reno.

A man singing and a woman playing the harp.

Harp Fest features harp showpieces and chamber music involving harps and other instruments, produced and performed by the University of Nevada, Reno harp instructor Marina Roznitovsky Oster with guest artists. This will be a unique performance, with all ages welcome. Celebrating the “Inner Child,” this program is meant to give the audience a moment to reconnect with our inner child and step away from our busy and serious lives. The themes are lighthearted and playful.

Oster started the Harp Fest series in 2008 (AKA Harp Plus) to showcase harp music in the Reno community. The concert features solo and chamber music performed on the harp by Oster along with various guest artists, weaving a new musical experience every year. This year the concert's theme is "The Inner Child," and will feature over 20 harpists and many other musicians and dancers. Youth enter for free and dress up is encouraged… time to explore that “Inner Child”!

Guest artists joining Oster will include:

  • Mary Miller: Flute.
  • Ava Norbert: Voice.
  • Olivia Knock: Cello.
  • Nataly Roznitovsky: Piano.
  • Susan Mazer: Electro-Acoustic Harp.
  • Dallas Smith: Woodwinds.
  • Brandon Dodge: Percussion.
  • The University of Nevada, Reno  and Reno Harp Ensembles.
  • Dancers from the Arthur Miller Studio.

A University faculty member, Marina Roznitovsky Oster is from the Ukraine and was raised in Israel. Making music since the age of five, Oster became passionate about the harp at the age of 12.

“Seeing and hearing the harp in person in my youth captured my attention with its beauty and elegance, yet powerful presence," Oster said. "Trying it with my own hands really captivated me and kept me engaged ever since. Having a piano background really allowed me to blossom with the harp. The harp is such a fascinating and intricate instrument, with a 6-thousand-year history. Today's concert harps have a complex pedal mechanism with more than 2000 moving parts. I love that one can practically 'touch the sound' when playing the harp and feel the vibrations created by the sound waves traveling through the wood.”

Oster has since performed internationally and is now the principal harpist with the Reno Philharmonic, and the Reno Chamber Orchestra.

Oster considers it a, “calling and a pleasure to bring music lovers together, performers and audiences alike, in this unique annual celebration of the harp. It is a great joy to see this rich musical community in such a small city. Life is good in Reno!”

How to enjoy the venice biennale 2024.

It’s a Biennale time in Venice, aka the Art Olympics, an every-two-year event where La Serenissima’s 118 islands are almost entirely dedicated to contemporary art from countries and artists around the world. What started out as small art fair in the Giardini, Venice’s public park, has turned into a six-month, all-island, non-stop blockbuster art fest of exhibitions in palaces, galleries, public spaces, and, of course, the Giardini and Arsenale. This year’s 60th Venice Biennale Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere brings it on strong with 331 artists, 88 national pavilions and 30 collateral events, not to mention other pop ups. That’s a lot of art to take in, and a lot of ground to cover. After years of visiting the Biennale as press and also including time working at the US Pavilion, I’ve finally figured out the best way to navigatee Venice Biennale .

60th Biennale Art 2024 "Strangers Everywhere" (Photo by Simone Padovani/Getty Images)

What to See at the Biennale

From now through November 24, the 60th Venice Biennale Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere is everywhere all at once. The theme plays on the idea of place and identity wherever you are, and maybe even is a sly nod to mass tourism, but it’s up to the artists. With the main exhibition taking place in two venues - the Giardini (the island’s large park where you’ll find individual country pavilions) and the Arsenale, Venice’s former ship arsenal which hosts a large group show in its Corderie, and country pavilions, collateral events and exhibitions popping up in every sestiere, I’ve have a few suggestions on how to enjoy the Biennale.

What I am always asked is if it is necessary to purchase a multi-ticket ( a pass which allows unlimited entry to Giardini and Arsenale over a period of days). If you have to see every pavilion and every work of art, then, yes, because you’ll need at least one day in each venue. Otherwise, my suggestion is to get a single pass and compress both venues into a one day experience, so that you can take advantage of walking around Venice to visit any collateral event that catches your eye.

Arsenale at the 60th Venice Biennale Art Festival

With that in mind, here’s my list of pavilions and exhibitions not to miss.

Egypt Drama 1882, Wael Shawky

Shawky’s Drama 1882 is a film rendition of an original musical play directed, choreographed, and composed by Shawky about Egypt’s nationalist Urabi 1879-82 uprising against imperial influence. Operatica and mesmerising, Shawky’s set, colours and composition are surreal.

France: Attila cataracte ta source aux pieds des pitons verts finira dans la grande mer gouffre bleu nous nous noyâmes dans les larmes marées de la lune, Julien Creuzet

Creuzet’s installation is like walking through a technicolor looking glass. His multimedia collage is a mix of sounds, images, and objects that seemingly trawl the ocean to pull up traces of contemporary culture and colonial history. What does this mean? It’s a beautiful visual and auditory experience, with a captivating soundtrack.

Korea: Odorama City , Koo Jeong A

For the past decade, Korea has been my go-to pavilion, and this year, it didn’t disappoint. Koo’s Odorama City was a bit surreal, an almost empty pavilion guided entirely by scent. In 2023, he amassed 600 written statements about Korean smells and then worked with perfumers to interpret them into 16 distinct scents. I found it really calming, and serene.

Poland: Repeat After Me II, Open Group ((Yuriy Biley, Pavlo Kovach, Anton Varga)

A film-slash-karaoke experience in which viewers are invited to sing the sounds of war, imitating AK47s, missiles and explosions that witness efugees share. It’s dramatic, and the sounds continue to follow you outside of the pavilion and into your Venice experience.

USA: the space in which to place me, Jeffrey Gibson

Gibson transforms the US pavilion with dynamic colour, craft, sculpture and video. A member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, Gibson explores narratives of identity and tradition of Indigenous and minority communities in the American landscape, deconstructing and redefining mainstream with a futuristic vision of inclusivity. What does that mean? It’s bright, colourful and inspiring.

Stranieri Ovunque continues in the Arsenale at the Corderie, a nearly one-kilometre stretch where room after room is a curated group show which then wraps into a series of rooms featuring individual exhibitions and country pavilions. There is a lot of art to see, and it is almost overwhelming. Take a deep breath, and just enjoy what catches your eye. Here are a few of my favorites:

Matahoo Collective, Arsenale, Venice Biennale 2024

Golden Lion for Best International Work. The show beings with Golden Lion winner Takapau, a large-scale installation by New Zealand’s Mataaho Collective (artists Erena Arapere-Baker, Sarah Hudson, Bridget Reweti and Terri Te Tau) and inspired by Māori takapau (finely woven mats made for special events). Takapau is 200sqm of suspended weaving made from six kilometres of trucking straps and other safety materials (like buckles and j-hooks) used in construction and labor jobs. Light and shadows change beautifully with every angle.

Disobedience Archive

As you walk through the Corderie, look out for Disobedience Archive, Diaspora Activism and Gender Disobedience, rooms of video installations. Continue through for exp Bokk by artist Alioune Diagne in the Senegal pavilion , Wangshui ’s futuristic video and LED installation, and Sites of Memory, Sites of Amnesia by artist Abdullah Al Saadi UAE pavilion .

Off Site and around Venice

You’ve done it. You’ve walked the Biennale, and now it’s time to get out. The best part of the Biennale experience is stumbling across an offsite pavilion and a collateral event that pop up in every neighborhood. But sometimes it’s not always that easy. If you’re visiting Venice for Biennale 2024 season, drop a pin on the following out-of-this-world exhibitions.

Are We the Aliens_Arne Quinze, Swizz Beatz

swell of spæc(i)es, Josefa Ntjam

Imaginary Nigeria in Palazzo Canal, Campo San Barnaba, e group show of the Nigeria Pavilion featuring Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Ndidi Dike, Onyeka Igwe, Toyin Ojih-Odutola, Abraham Oghobase, Precious Okoyomon, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA and Fatimah Tuggar. The exhibition explores the role of moments in Nigeria’s history, a Nigeria that could be and the Nigeria yet to be.

At Dorsoduro’s Magazzino del Sale is The Rooted Nomad, a trippy immersive installation on the works of India’s M.F. Husain, and nearby, the courtyard of the Accademia di Belle Arti, is Josefa Ntjam ’s swell of spæc(i)es, a futuristic almost off world space.

Are We Aliens, Arne Quinze and Swizz Beatz, in Castello’s Campo San Francesco alle Vigne could be my personal favorite. Another immersive show, visitors are guided to an extraterrestrial landscape on the first level of deconsecrated church where Swizz Beatz' sonic sounds hypnotise you to the rhythmic lights on Quinze's oversized, cloud-like sculptures.

Catalan's feet at Holy See on the Giudecca.

Holy See Pavilion. This could be the sleeper hit of the Biennale, and most likely because it requires the most effort. Taking place inside the Giudecca’s Casa di Reclusione Femminile (women’s prison), visitors are required to book a reservation on line and well in advance to see a group show about human rights and the tenants of the marginalised world, with work by artists Maurizio Cattelan, Bintou Dembélé, Simone Fattal, Claire Fontaine, Sonia Gomes, Corita Kent, Marco Perego & Zoe Saldana, Claire Tabouret and Hans Ulrich Obrist.

Venice Access Fee

By the way, if you are planning a trip to Venice during May, June and July, you may have to pay to enter Venice. On April 25th, the city of Venice initiated the Venice Access Fee , a 5 euro entry ticket (during the hours of 8:30 am and 4pm) for 30 trial days during May, June and July (see below).

Venice Access, April 2024

Visitors will need book a reservation on line. Daytrippers are required to pay a 5 euro fee, while overnighting hotel guests are exempt from payment but still must book. Navigating the site is fairly easy, and once completed, you will be emailed a PDF. (In some cases, your hotel may do it for you). When you arrive in Venice, show your pass to the stewards in bright orange vests who will scan the QR code. If you didn’t have time to book it, head to the designated kiosk at the steps of the Santa Lucia train station.

The Venice Access Fee will be in effect on the following days: April 25 to May 5, May 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, June 8,9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 and July 6, 7, 13 and 14 (primarily Saturdays and Sundays). Remember, you’ll need to have a pass for every day you are in Venice.
