Information

We originally designed this long arm for the '78-'79 Big Bronco and quickly realized all the rest of you wanted a piece of the action. Now, this kit is specific '80-'96 Ford Broncos. Don't have a solid front axle? No problem. Outsource or spec your favorite front axle and this kit will get you started on your solid axle swap.

Our proven Long Travel Extended Radius Arm is Designed for rugged off-road use while enhancing drivability. Fabricated out of 2" diameter, heavy-wall DOM at a whopping 5/16" thick! For strength and safety, we designed a separate cast steel head unit to mount to the C-wedges on the axle with your original C-cap or our new ones sold separately.

These arms are 10 3/4" longer than a '66-'79 Bronco radius arm, moving the pivot point farther back. This vastly improves suspension travel & articulation but it doesn't stop there. These arms also improve handling & control for your on-road driving experience.

Fabricated from all new materials; no core charges, no cutting or welding to 40 to 50-year-old cast arms. Built-in caster means better alignment and handling. A tight to the frame rear mount holds the arm with a high quality 1" bore Teflon lined and lubricated Rod End, keeping it closer to the frame for improved ground clearance and break-over angle.

Tons of travel, a tighter turning radius, better ground clearance and improved handling all in one product! Includes arms, head units, rod ends, frame mounts, bushings, and all necessary mounting hardware. Requires at least a 6" suspension lift for Full-Size Broncos.

C-bushings are sold separately due to vehicle variations and lift height. This kit includes arms, specially designed frame brackets with a backside reinforcement, and riser brackets for the brake lines. The arms are the same proven design that we've been selling for years! Combine with our Cast C-Wedges, C-Caps, and Spacers to swap in a new Dana 44 or Dana 60!

  • Proven Design since 2001
  • Bolt-in C-Channel Frame Mounts
  • 10 3/4" longer than stock
  • Built-in 4.25 degrees of added caster
  • Backed by the best customer service in the industry
  • Big Tires? Due to the offset built into them, t hat's what these arms are made for
  • Needing more articulation, more flex? Our extended arms will give you the most of any arm on the market
  • Strongest extended radius arms available
  • Made from 100% brand new American Materials
  • Comes powder coated with all necessary hardware
  • Just say no to janky designs and core charges!

Q: What is a radius arm and why should I upgrade to the James Duff Long Arm? A:  James Duff Inc. has been the leader in Bronco off-road suspension for over 20 years. Why you ask? Our Extended Long Travel radius arm matched with our long-travel suspension systems allow the Bronco to traverse over almost any terrain. Designed and manufactured by James Duff Inc.

It is a tubular & plate steel design that utilizes a secondary cast steel component called a head unit to mount it to the Bronco. This two-piece design not only makes the install easier but also incorporates 4.25 degrees of added caster. When it comes to lifting Bronco front suspension, CASTER IS KING! This extended length radius arm is not only MASSIVELY stronger and offers MORE caster than the OEM design but it also allows up to 37″ tires to fit w/o sacrificing the Broncos tight turning radius.  This arm is a direct fit for all dana 30 & 44 axles made from ’66-’79.

Q: What Degree C-Bushing do I need? A: Use the following below as a guide, if your axle wedges are located in the factory position this should net you the desired caster for good on-road manners. If you have installed or modified your axle wedges your results may vary. We aim for 3° positive caster once the final alignment is completed.

2-4″ lift: #6002 2° C Bushings 5-6″ lift: #6004 4° C Bushings 6″+ lift: #6007 7° C Bushings

Q: Where should I mount my frame brackets? A: Long arm frame brackets from the rear of A-pillar body mount flange to front leading edge of long arm frame bracket - 13” BOTH SIDES see photo 1 and photo 2 for reference. These measurements are based on our '96 Bronco you will need to measure and make sure your axle is where you want it. Always triple-check before making anything permanent.

Q: Where should I mount my coil buckets when doing a Solid Axle Swap? A: 5110 Duff Coil bucket placement - hook tape measure to the back edge of the front body mount and measure back 15 1/2” - BOTH SIDES

5110 Duff coil bucket height from the bottom of the frame to the landing pad/seat for the top of the coil spring is 9.5” for a 6” lift - BOTH SIDES

See photo 1 , photo 2 , photo 3 , and photo 4 for reference. These measurements are based on our '96 Bronco you will need to measure and make sure your axle is where you want it. Always triple-check before making anything permanent.

Q: Do I need a custom cross member to install the Long Arms on my Bronco? A: If you have a '94-'96 FSB and/or an E40d transmission you will need to modify or replace the factory cross-member with a custom-made cross member. James Duff does not make this part. Here are picture examples of what it can look like if you build a custom cross-member. Photo 1 | Photo 2 | Photo 3

Q: What axles are these arms compatible with? A:  Our radius arms are designed and engineered to work the factory-equipped Dana 30 or Dana 44 front axle on the Early Bronco Platform. They will also work in the Full-Width High Pinion Dana 44 that comes installed in the ’76-’79 F-150 4×4 or ’78-’79 Big Bronco. If you are wanting to pair them with another axle such as a Dana 60 or Super-Duty 60 then you must ensure that the axle uses the  ford style axle wedges  or you must grind off any brackets that use a different style attachment point and weld on the wedges we sell.

Q: I ordered these but they are missing the part to bolt on the head unit to the axle!  A:   Correct this kit doesn’t include new c-caps. You must select that option at check out or reuse your factory-equipped C-Cap. Keep in mind we offer the optional c-cap add-on in color-matched powder coat or bare if your C-Caps are in rough shape.

Description

Additional information.

  • Applications

The 83-90 Ford Bronco II Long-Travel Suspension Kit Stage 3 is a high performance long-travel front suspension kit for Rangers, Explorers, and Bronco IIs. This kit converts the TTB suspension to use a 12″ Coil-over performance shock. Built for chase and prerunning down in Baja!

The 15 inches of front suspension travel soaks up the whoops, and delivers an amazing ride even through the roughest terrain. This Suspension kit is built for heavy off-road use, no matter if it’s on hard or soft packed dirt.

The Bronco II Coil-over Conversion Kit combines our legendary Cut N’ Turned Dana 44 TTBs with uniball pivots, uniballs, stainless steel misalignment spacers and welded differential skid plate for superior durability, and 12″ 2.5 King Remote Reservoir Coil-over shocks for a perfect suspension upgrade. Everything is built specific to your Bronco II, considering weight, application and other parameters.

The Cut N’ Turned beams allow for proper camber.  We weld the remaining TTB welds that the factory does not complete. Our 1 1/4″ Extended Radius Arms will bring back the correct caster and allows the wheel to travel on a greater arc.

The W-I-Y shock hoops  comes with pre-drilled alignment holes, allowing for easy and precise positioning before welding. Fiberglass fenders are not required.

We also offer additional beam plating. Which includes plating the front, back, top, and bottom of both beams. We weld a truss and skid plate to the driver’s beam for additional strength. We replace the stock bushings with 4130 chromoly uniball cups, FK uniballs, and stainless steel misalignment spacers for superior durability.

This suspension system uses a 12″ coil over shock to keep your factory brake booster.

We do offer a Dana 35 TTB modification allowing you to run a Dana 44 spindle, snouts, and hub conversion. Call for shock options.

Camburg Ford Bronco 21-24 King 2.5 Performance Kit

  • Corrected geometry with upper arms
  • Rear coilover conversion
  • Improved handling on & off-road

$ 5,631.99 – $ 8,231.88

Description

  • What's Included
  • Vehicle Applications

Our King 2.5 performance kit for the ’21-24 Ford Bronco’s takes your stock suspension to the next level. We utilize Kings’s 2.5 series front coilovers with compression adjusters. This combination of parts not only improves the ride and handling on-road but more so off-road with the larger diameter shocks and external reservoirs. These 2.5 coilovers are designed to be used with our Camburg upper arms for maximum useable wheel travel and performance. These also have King’s finned aluminum reservoirs that aid in lowering shock temps under hard use.

  • Improved ride both on and off-road
  • Eliminates weak upper ball-joint
  • Increased wheel travel
  • Corrected suspension geometry
  • Made in the USA

After lifting your truck, the stock upper arms become the limiting factor and hold back your suspensions performance. Our upper arms address these issues and more.  Replacing the arms increase wheel travel with a part that is considerably stronger and will last longer under extreme conditions. You have the option of our uniball or billet series arms. We also engineered the arms with more caster and changed the camber curve to correct geometry so the vehicle aligns correctly and improves driving characteristics and handling. For more info on all our arms, check out their individual product pages to help make your choice.

In the rear we convert to a coilovers which dramatically improves the ride with additional lift. They have a substantial increased oil capacity due to their size and have a lot more control and damping. The compression adjuster allows you to tune the shock softer and firmer depending on what you’re looking for and how you’re the truck. Since they are longer in length they increase rear wheel travel and articulation. These also have King’s finned aluminum reservoirs that aid in lowering shock temps under hard use.

As an upgrade we recommend one of our rear lower trailing arm kits. They’re considerably stronger, pivot on 1″ uniball bearings for more wheel travel and articulation.

  • w/ Sasquatch Package = 0-1″ lift | w/o Sasquatch Package = 2-3″ lift

  • King 2.5 Front Coilovers

  • Camburg Rear Lower Trailing Arms (Options: Billet CAM-120032-GRY | Tubular CAM-120031) w/ offset lower shock spacers

Lift amounts, tire and wheel sizing, suspension specifications, etc. are generalized as they can vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle with so many production variables between manufactures, products and vehicle options/packages from the factory. We’re supplying you the best information at our disposable along with the information supplied to us from the brands we sell.  With so many variables of wheel size, offset/backspacing, tire size, brands and styles, the amount of lift and specific suspension components installed, etc., you may need to trim plastic/sheet metal and/or modify the body mount behind the front tires to eliminate tire rubbing.

O.J. Simpson Led Police on 2-Hour Chase of His White Bronco After Nicole Brown Simpson's Murder — Revisit the Shocking Ordeal

Simpson, who was ultimately acquitted in Nicole Brown Simpson's murder, evaded police while 95 million people watched on live television nearly 30 years ago

In June, it will be 30 years since much of the nation — 95 million viewers, to be exact — was glued to their television screens, watching then-beloved football star-turned-actor O.J. Simpson evade police officers in a white Ford Bronco.

Simpson, who died at age 76 on April 10, was ordered to turn himself into police on June 17, 1994 following the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson . Simpson and her friend, waiter Ronald Goldman, were stabbed to death on June 12, 1994. Their bodies were found outside of her Los Angeles-area home in the early hours of June 13.

But Simpson did not follow orders, and while his whereabouts remained unknown well into the late afternoon on June 17, his attorney Robert Kardashian read a letter given to him by Simpson to the media. In part, Simpson's note said, "Thanks for making my life special. I hope I helped yours. Peace and love. O.J.”

That evening, though, after 6 p.m. local time, Simpson was spotted in a Bronco with close friend and teammate Al Cowlings, driving through Southern California on the interstate.

Ted Soqui/Sygma via Getty

Cowlings was driving the vehicle, his own, and told police that Simpson was seated in the back with a gun pointed at his head. According to CBS , Cowlings called authorities from a cell phone, pleading, "You gotta tell the police to back off. He's still alive, but he's got a gun to his head." (Cowlings was arrested but ultimately charges were dropped for "aiding a fugitive.")

Swarms of police vehicles began pursuing Simpson as the car traveled to the athlete's home in Brentwood, with the chase continuing for 60 miles at low speeds. News helicopters also quickly fell into pursuit of Simpson as traffic came to a standstill on much of the expressway with curious onlookers pulled over to watch.

"It was already the most televised police pursuit in history, but now it's so bizarre with people coming out," Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Pool, who was the officer who originally spotted the 1993 Bronco, told NBC News in 2014. "There were people interfering with our pursuit. At one point, when we got into L.A., it was as though a concert had let out on the freeway. People were partying. I thought, if this was a movie, people would say that was a pretty good movie until that stupid car chase!"

The Bronco ultimately arrived at Simpson's L.A.-area home at 8 p.m., with police, and snipers, surrounding the house. Simpson eventually exited the vehicle — in which the LAPD found makeup adhesive, a fake mustache and goatee, Simpson’s passport and a gun — and surrendered to authorities.

Ultimately, Simpson was charged with Brown Simpson and Goldman's murders, though he was acquitted in what was dubbed "The Trial of the Century ." Following his acquittal,  Simpson was sued in civil court  by the Browns and Goldmans and found liable.

Simpson later wrote a controversial book  If I Did It , in which he spoke about Brown Simpson and Goldman's killings. The Goldman family, who receive proceeds from the purchase of the book , view it as the late Simpson's confession of responsibility for the murders.

What happened to white Ford Bronco in O.J. Simpson car chase? It ended up in crime museum

long travel bronco

The world stopped on June 17, 1994. And on live television, one of the most dramatic events in American pop culture history unfolded.

The scene: a slow-speed chase featuring a white Ford Bronco on an empty highway in California with scores of police vehicles in pursuit .

Inside that now-famous vehicle? O.J. Simpson , the former NFL running back turned media star, who had been charged with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson, his ex-wife, and Ron Goldman days earlier. Friend Al "A.C." Cowlings drove while Simpson was on the phone in the backseat with a loaded gun.

Everybody knows what happened to Simpson between then and his death at age 76 from prostate cancer, which his family announced Wednesday. But what about that 1993 white Ford Bronco?

What happened to the white Ford Bronco in the O.J. Simpson chase?

The car was not Simpson's. It belonged to Cowlings. Simpson and Cowlings actually drove identical cars, but Simpson's had been seized as part of evidence-gathering for his upcoming trial.

NFL DRAFT HUB: Latest NFL Draft mock drafts, news, live picks, grades and analysis.

A 2014 USA TODAY exclusive story reported that Cowlings instructed Don Kreiss, a friend of his who worked for a sports agency, to sell it. Kreiss connected with memorabilia collector Michael Kronick. But Cowlings backed out of the deal and Kronick took him to court. Kronick sued Cowlings for damages in excess of $200,000, and they reached an undisclosed settlement in 1996.

Two months later, Stanley Stone, Cowlings' attorney, said the car was sold for $200,000. Stone did not initially identify the buyer, but the vehicle ended up with another one of his clients named Michael Pulwer.

How a 'porn king' got the white Ford Bronco

Pulwer, who made his money in pornography and was called "a porn king" by family, was an associate of Cowlings. Pulwer told a cousin he purchased the vehicle to help out Cowlings, who filed for bankruptcy in 1997. Pulwer apparently did not think the Bronco held value and the car sat in the underground parking garage at The Westford, a luxury condominium complex in Los Angeles where Pulwer lived. Apparently, the car sat idle so long pressure leaked out of the tires.

The white Ford Bronco reappears in 2010s

In May 2012, the Bronco resurfaced. From USA TODAY's 2014 story: "The Bronco appeared in Las Vegas, outside the Luxor hotel on The Strip. It was there to help publicize the opening of SCORE!, a sports memorabilia museum and exhibit. Six months later, the Bronco appeared in Greenwich, Connecticut. It was at the Brant Foundation for an exhibit featuring artist Nate Lowman, who has used a topless picture of Nicole Brown Simpson in his work."

As the 20-year anniversary of the murders of Brown and Goldman approached, USA TODAY's search for the vehicle came up empty. It didn't appear to be with Pulwer in Florida, where he had moved.

"I think we should care more about the people who were killed than the white Bronco," Pulwer told the New York Daily News.

White Ford Bronco appears on 'Pawn Stars'

In August 2017, not long before Simpson was released from a Nevada jail for committing an armed robbery, the white Ford Bronco was featured on an episode of "Pawn Stars." Mike Gilbert, a former Simpson agent, said he bought the vehicle from Cowlings.

Gilbert turned down a $500,000 offer and said he'd never sell the vehicle for less than $1 million.

White Ford Bronco now resides in museum

Next to Ted Bundy's Volkswagen Bug and John Dillinger's red Essex Terraplane, the 1993 white Ford Bronco now resides in the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

There had been high-speed pursuits before on L.A. freeways.

But nothing compares to the surreal day of June 17, 1994, when O.J. Simpson and his white Bronco captivated the world’s attention.

One lawyer at the time called it “the day Los Angeles stopped.”

Driven by Simpson’s boyhood friend and former NFL colleague Al “A.C.” Cowlings, the ex-football star led police on a two-hour chase across Southern California in his white Ford Bronco after he was charged with murder in the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson , and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Lee Bailey, left, and Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. stand with him. Cochran, Simpson's flamboyant lead attorney, died of brain cancer in 2005 at 68. His refrain to jurors that "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit" sought to underscore that the bloody gloves found at Simpson’s home and the crime scene were too small for football legend when he tried them on in court. O.J. Simpson, whose murder trial riveted and divided the world, dies at 76

O.J. Simpson, whose rise and fall from American football hero to murder suspect to prison inmate fueled a public drama that obsessed the nation, has died.

April 11, 2024

As the slow-speed chase dragged on, people gathered on overpasses to wave and cheer on Simpson with chants such as, “The juice is loose.”

Here is a retrospective of what happened from the pages of The Times:

An image from "O.J.: Made In America" of O.J. Simpson, with bride Nicole Brown Simpson.

How the chase unfolded

8:30 a.m.: Robert Shapiro, one of Simpson’s lawyers, receives a call from Los Angeles Police Department officials telling him to surrender his client.

9:30 a.m.: Shapiro goes to an undisclosed home in the San Fernando Valley and informs Simpson he will have to surrender by 11 a.m. Murder charges are filed against Simpson in the killings of his ex-wife and her friend; arraignment is scheduled for the afternoon.

11 a.m.: Simpson is scheduled to surrender.

Shortly after noon, according to Shapiro, the lawyer receives a call from LAPD officials telling him that police must announce that Simpson is a fugitive. Shapiro gives police directions to the San Fernando Valley house. Police arrive at the house. Shapiro, who is with Simpson’s doctors and others in a room at the house, says Simpson and Cowlings, a former college and pro football teammate of Simpson’s, had left the house.

1:50 p.m.: LAPD Cmdr. David Gascon announces that Simpson has not surrendered for arraignment as scheduled and is a fugitive.

Friday is the 28th anniversary of the infamous slow-speed chase that fascinated California and the nation.

June 17, 2022

2 p.m.: Police respond to a 911 call at the scene of the slayings after a man identified as Nicole Simpson’s father comes out of the house asking people to call 911.

3 p.m.: An LAPD officer at the condominium tells reporters, “O.J. Simpson is not here.” Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti says at a news conference that anyone helping Simpson flee will be prosecuted as a felon. “We will find Mr. Simpson and bring him to justice.” Police are searching for Cowlings. Garcetti says prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty in the murder case.

4:45 p.m.: Police issue an arrest warrant for Cowlings.

5 p.m.: Shapiro holds a news conference, during which longtime Simpson friend Robert Kardashian reads a letter from Simpson: “Don’t feel sorry for me,” the note ends. “I’ve had a great life, great friends. Please think of the real O.J. and not this lost person. Thanks for making my life special. I hope I helped yours. Peace and love. O.J.”

5:51 p.m.: Simpson reportedly makes a 911 call from a cellphone in Cowlings’ Ford Bronco. His location is traced to the 5 Freeway in Orange County near Lake Forest, where his ex-wife was buried.

California Highway Patrol units chase Al Cowlings, who is driving the white Bronco, and O.J. Simpson, hiding in the rear, on the 91 Freeway shortly after Simpson was charged in slayings.

June 11, 2014

The chase became a “Where were you?” moment.

It also offered a preview of how Simpson’s murder trial would divide the nation. As The Times r eported the next morning: “Hundreds of supporters gathered in the upscale neighborhood, chanting “Free O.J.,” and rocking police cars.”

Others think the chase helped make the Simpson trial a national obsession. As The Times reported in 1995: “ Ninety-five million people watched that chase , not knowing how it would end. Suicide? Arrest? Escape? Violent confrontation? That shared adventure clearly gave many of them a vested interest, a sense of participation, of being on the inside of a national drama-cum-trauma in the making. And in this particular drama, virtually everyone felt he ‘knew’ the central player.”

The late Times reporter Andrea Ford, who covered the trial, said the chase “locked people into this common emotional experience.”

The view from the air

In 2019, The Times talked to Zoey Tur, who was piloting a helicopter for KCBS-TV and captured the chase.

Everyone was looking for Simpson, she recalled in the interview. Her CBS colleagues heard that the FBI had triangulated Simpson’s cellphone and found he was at the El Toro Y interchange in Irvine.

Nicole Brown Simpson's body was found outside her home at 875 S. Bundy Drive in Brentwood. Police examine the area where her body was found.

“So I glanced down and spotted the Bronco with police cruisers on its tail. I screamed to the station, ‘We’ve got him,’ and began the broadcast,” she recalled.

“Sitting up there, the enormity of it hit you. He is one of the most famous people in America and he is running from the police as a wanted murderer,” Tur said. “It was like a serene parade, with O.J. leading the procession.”

Reflecting on the day years later, she said: “It wasn’t the first pursuit I covered or the last ... but it was the most memorable.”

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

long travel bronco

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

long travel bronco

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

long travel bronco

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

long travel bronco

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

long travel bronco

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

O.J. Simpson dead at 76

By Tori B. Powell , Ashley Williams, Matt Meyer and Adrienne Vogt , CNN

We've wrapped up our live coverage. You can read more about the life of O.J. Simpson by scrolling through the posts below.

Attorney for Simpson expresses condolences to his family

From CNN’s Stephanie Becker

Attorney Carl Douglas, who represented O.J. Simpson during his murder trial alongside Robert Kardashian and Johnnie Cochran, expressed condolences to Simpson's children upon the news of his death.

"I was shocked and surprised to hear of O.J. Simpson's death at the relatively young age of 76," Douglas said.

"I expect our names will forever be linked together in some way," he continued, adding, "may he rest in peace."

Kardashian died in 2003, and Cochran died in 2005.

Simpson's death is a reminder of the system "failing battered women," attorney Gloria Allred says

Gloria Allred, the star Los Angeles attorney who represented Nicole Brown Simpson's family during O.J. Simpson's criminal trial, said the former football star's death is a reminder of the justice system "failing battered women" and allowing "celebrity men to avoid true justice."

Simpson was acquitted of murder in the 1995 criminal case stemming from the brutal killings of Brown Simpson, his ex-wife, and her friend Ron Goldman. A civil trial jury unanimously deemed Simpson liable for the deaths two years later.

The couple's years together were rife with allegations of domestic violence and reports of abuse.

In a statement Thursday, Allred once again accused Simpson of the murder, and she referenced an alleged episode of domestic violence that occurred five years prior to Brown Simpson's death.

"Even though he beat her, inflicted a black eye on her, and left her terrified hiding in the bushes, in 1989 he was never jailed by a judge for the spousal violence to which she was subjected and to which he plead no contest," the lawyer wrote.

"Simpson’s death reminds us that the legal system even 30 years later is still failing battered women, and that the power of celebrity men to avoid true justice for the harm that they inflict on their wives or significant others is still a major obstacle to the right of women to be free of the gender violence to which they are still subjected," Allred wrote.

CNN’s Elizabeth Wagmeister, Dakin Andone and Ray Sanchez contributed reporting to this post.

Photos: O.J. Simpson through the years

From the CNN photo team

O.J. Simpson, playing for the San Francisco 49ers, walks off the field after his final NFL game in December 1979.

O.J. Simpson was a highly decorated athlete — winning the 1968 Heisman Trophy at University of Southern California and then starring in the NFL — before he became one of the most controversial figures of the late 20th century when he was charged with the murders of his former wife and her friend.

A jury found him not guilty in a trial that saw America's fascination with celebrity collide with its centuries long struggle with race, as well as issues of class, policing and criminal justice.

The trial held the country's attention in a vise grip for nearly nine months, and remained a cultural touchstone up through Simpson's family announcing his death from cancer Thursday.

Ron Goldman's father says Simpson's death is a painful reminder of loss of his son

From CNN's Dakin Andone and Ray Sanchez

Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman — who was killed alongside his friend Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994 — told People magazine O.J. Simpson's death is a "reminder for us how long Ron has been gone, how long we have missed him and nothing more than that."

“That is the only thing that is important today. It is the pain from then until now. There is nothing today that is more important than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole," he said.

What to know about the 2007 robbery that landed Simpson behind bars

From CNN staff

O.J. Simpson, center, appears in court on charges which include kidnapping, armed robbery and assault, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in September 2007.

O.J. Simpson was released from  prison  in 2017 after serving about nine years of a 33-year sentence for a kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas.

In the 2007 robbery, Simpson was part of a group that raided a hotel and casino to steal sports memorabilia from two dealers at gunpoint.

Simpson was convicted on charges including kidnapping, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The former college and pro football star said at his sentencing that he was trying to reclaim family heirlooms and other personal items that had been stolen from him, and claimed he was unaware his associates were carrying guns.

During his years in prison , Simpson passed the time playing fantasy football, coaching softball, and, at least in the beginning, eating lots of junk food, according to guards and an inmate who were there with him.

Simpson was granted an early parole discharge in 2021 , according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Simpson spent a lifetime in the limelight, first for his athletic prowess in college and the NFL, then as an actor and pitchman, then as a murder suspect in the 1994 killing of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

O.J. Simpson's infamous white Bronco chase sparked one of the most-watched events in TV history

From CNN's Doug Criss

Motorists pull over to watch police pursue O.J. Simpson in a Ford Bronco on June 17, 1994, in Los Angeles, California.

On June 17, 1994, O.J. Simpson got into a white Ford Bronco and rode down a Los Angeles interstate, starting one of the most-watched events in TV history .

That was the day Simpson was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. He was supposed to have turned himself in to face the charges but didn’t. He was declared a fugitive and a warrant was put out for his arrest.

At about 6:45 p.m., police saw Simpson on the expressway in a white Ford Bronco driven by his best friend and former teammate, Al Cowlings. Simpson was riding in the back, and he reportedly had a gun. And with that, the 60-mile, two-hour, low-speed pursuit through Southern California was on.

A cavalcade of police cars followed in pursuit. TV helicopters swooped in to join the chase. As the Bronco traveled under highway overpasses, crowds of people cheered Simpson on with shouts and signs.

About 95 million people watched the chase that night in total.

Watch CNN's coverage at the time:

Simpson was receiving chemotherapy treatment for prostate cancer, Hall of Fame president says

O.J. Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and received chemotherapy treatment before he died, Pro Football Hall of Fame President Jim Porter said in a statement Thursday, after the former running back's family confirmed his death.

CNN has recently reported on a stark racial disparity in prostate cancer diagnoses , which has spurred health advocates to urge   Black men to consider getting prostate cancer screenings.

One in six Black men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, according to the advocacy organization ZERO Prostate Cancer. Research from the American Cancer Society shows Black men are more than twice as likely to die from the disease   than their White counterparts.

CNN's Nicquel Terry Ellis contributed reporting to this post.

Simpson was "not just admired, but beloved" as a household name, says sportscaster Bob Costas

From CNN's Alaa Elassar

O.J. Simpson looks on from the sideline during a Buffalo Bills football game in 1975.

Veteran sportscaster Bob Costas, who became friends with O.J. Simpson after they worked together broadcasting on NBC, said Simpson was not only a Hall of Fame-quality player, but embodied "a quality that's difficult to define; statistics alone don't capture it."

"He was not just admired, but beloved," Costas told CNN. "He was, if not the first, he was the first to do it in a big way, an African American who broke through."

Although he was known as an accomplished athlete and "one of the handful of greatest running backs in the history of college football and then the NFL," Simpson also became a household name for his appearance in movies and a variety of commercials, including a famous 1978 Hertz car rental commercial showing Simpson running through an airport.

"Everything about him, people feel it, more or less," Costas said.

Sports analyst Christine Brennan called Simpson an "American icon" who transcended sports.

“What we see now with athletes today, be it Caitlin Clark recently, of course Tom Brady, Serena Williams, LeBron (James), I could go on and on, the first-name basis that we’re on with these athletes, the fact that we absolutely expect to see them on commercials,” Brennan told CNN. “This, to me, really started with O.J. and the Hertz commercials."

Even people who didn't watch sports or knew him as an athlete recognized who Simpson was, she added.

“I knew him as an athlete, but I also knew him as a pitch man, and that crossover appeal into every living room, so even if you didn’t love football, you knew O.J. because of his ability to transcend sports and of course become the businessman and the pitchman that he was," Brennan said.

“And then the trial, and the civil trial, the civil case he lost, and the fall from grace that was extraordinary and well-deserved, absolutely self-induced, and a man that would never be seen the same again," she added.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

The Life of O.J. Simpson: A Timeline

He was a football star, actor, commercial pitchman, and a defendant in a gruesome double murder whose trial gripped the nation.

  • Share full article

O.J. Simpson, dressed in a gray suit, sitting in a courtroom.

By Victor Mather

O.J. Simpson, who died on Wednesday at 76 , lived a life that made him one of the most famous people in America, as well as, at various times, the most celebrated and most reviled.

A Heisman Trophy winner when he played football at the University of Southern California, he reached superstar status as a running back with the Buffalo Bills. As a commercial pitchman and a Hollywood actor, he became a household name across much of America.

But fame turned to infamy when he was charged in the 1994 double murder of his former wife and her friend. He was acquitted after a trial that riveted the nation.

Here is a look at a man who never seemed to stop making news, for good and ill.

Heisman Trophy Winner

Mr. Simpson, who was born in San Francisco in 1947, first came to the attention of many Americans as a football star at the University of Southern California. In his two years playing for the Trojans, he was the game’s best running back, and tallied 33 touchdowns.

As a junior in 1967, he was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy as the college game’s best player, then won the award in 1968, his second and final year at U.S.C.

Professional Stardom

Mr. Simpson was drafted first overall by the Buffalo Bills in 1969, and by his fourth season he was a superstar. In 1973, he ran for 2,003 yards , which stood as a record for more than a decade, and won the N.F.L.’s Most Valuable Player Award; he was in the Top 5 in M.V.P. voting three other times as well.

He became known as the Juice, and his talent and likability propelled him to even greater notoriety. His on-field accomplishments and fame were all the more impressive given that he seldom played for good teams; his only playoff game, a loss, came in 1974.

He retired in 1979 after playing his final two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers.

Even those who knew little about football got to know the Juice as he began appearing in television advertisements, notably a series of ads for Hertz starting in 1975, in which he dashed through airports on his way to get his rental car. “Nobody has more of what it takes to rent you a Fairmont, Mustang, LTD or other fine car faster,” he said in one ad .

He also tried his hand at announcing, including a stretch from 1983 to 1985 on “Monday Night Football.”

Hollywood Calls

Mr. Simpson began appearing in television and movie roles even as his football career continued, including some big budget projects like “The Towering Inferno” in 1974, in which he played the building’s chief of security, and the blockbuster mini-series “Roots” in 1977.

His biggest success, though, came in the three “Naked Gun” films, in which he played Detective Nordberg. In a running series of gags, Nordberg was continuously injured, often in scenes played for broad laughs. In one particularly memorable scene , at the end of the first film, Nordberg is seen flying down stadium steps in a wheelchair before being catapulted off a ledge and flipping into the air.

June 12, 1994

Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman Are Murdered

Mr. Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and a friend, Ronald L. Goldman, were stabbed to death at her home in Los Angeles on June 12, 1994.

Mr. Simpson was questioned and charged with murder. But he did not turn himself in initially. Instead, five days after the killings, he led the police on a bizarre, hourslong low-speed chase in a white 1993 Ford Bronco driven by his friend and former teammate, Al Cowlings. The chase was shown live on nearly every television network, even pre-empting the N.B.A. Finals.

‘The Trial of the Century’

Mr. Simpson’s trial lasted for nine months and gripped the nation for all that time. Multiple television networks broadcast the trial every day, and minor figures, like Kato Kaelin, who was staying in Mr. Simpson’s guesthouse at the time of the killings, became celebrities.

In one of the most riveting moments, Mr. Simpson was asked to try on bloody gloves found at the crime scene. Mr. Simpson claimed the gloves were too tight; his lawyer Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. alluded to this in his closing argument, saying, “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”

The verdict, despite significant DNA and other evidence, was not guilty on both counts. The result divided Americans: A majority felt it was a miscarriage of justice and continued to assume that Mr. Simpson was guilty, while some, including many Black Americans, believed the verdict to be justified.

Civil Judgment

After the acquittal, the parents of Ms. Simpson and Mr. Goldman filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Mr. Simpson. The jury found Mr. Simpson liable and ordered him to pay more than $30 million.

But Mr. Simpson said that his no longer having acting and endorsement work meant he was broke. The families ultimately received only a small fraction of the judgment.

Theft Charges and Prison

Mr. Simpson and several other men entered a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2007; Mr. Simpson claimed they were seeking sports memorabilia that had been stolen from him. A gun was brandished.

Mr. Simpson was arrested and in 2008 and was found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping. He was released on parole in 2017 after serving nine years of a 33-year sentence.

Release and Later Life

Upon his release from prison in 2017, Mr. Simpson settled in Florida and led what was, for him, a relatively low-key life. He played a lot of golf and posted videos regularly on Twitter, generally opening with “It’s me, yours truly,” offering thoughts on professional sports and frequently urging his 800,000 followers to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

In his final post , on Feb. 11, Mr. Simpson, as usual looking relaxed, spoke optimistically about his health and incorrectly predicted that the 49ers would win the Super Bowl.
