Each of us has a favourite location where we can find fulfilment and happiness. I also have a favourite place where I enjoy spending the majority of my time. My house is where I like to be. I enjoy spending my time there. It has a lovely and tranquil environment. My house is in the centre of a city. I live with my mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters. We each have our room. There isn't a place more significant than my house, in my opinion. I enjoy being at home. It energises me and lifts my spirits. Whenever I'm at home, I enjoy myself.

Everybody has a favourite location, such as a garden, a house, a playground, etc. My hometown, though, is my favourite place, and I love being in my home.

My Hometown

My town is my entire world. I was raised there. I have a lot of lovely and endearing memories of it. I used to play there with my friends and cousins during my early years. In my community, everyone is cordial. My town has many trees. I can only think of one spot where I enjoy spending time - my town. My visits home provide me with much delight and satisfaction. My grandmother's house in my village has often been one of my favourite places to be. Everyone has always held a special place in their hearts for their grandmother's home. We spent numerous summers with our granny when we were younger. Her home appeared to stand out from the rest in some way that made it special.

Enjoyment time

I enjoy playing outside while picking fresh fruits from the trees and eating freshly prepared vegetables. Frequently, I help my grandmother sow seeds in the garden. There are several reasons why I value this place so highly. There is something incredibly unique about the house. I feel at ease and relaxed here.

Why I Love My Grandmother’s House

First of all, the atmosphere at my grandmother’s house is distinctly different. I am at peace here. There is no noise or pollution because it is in a village. Additionally, there are no traffic jams here. I always wake early so that I can go for a walk and take in some fresh air. My body and mind are both revitalised by the fresh air. My grandmother makes me a delicious breakfast. In the evening, my whole family gathers to share our life stories as our grandfather makes tea.

My grandparents' home also has a small garden with grass that is a vibrant green colour. In the garden, there are swings as well. There, we also like playing entertaining games with our relatives, including water fights. We frequently spend the evenings sitting on the roof, looking up at the stars.

Holidays At Grandmother’s House

Over the holidays, there is always a lot of laughing and playing games at grandma’s house. Uncle's loud, recognisable giggle may be heard for miles. My aunt never misses an opportunity to comment on his laughter. The living room of our grandmother's home is where she regularly can be seen sitting and gazing out the window, close to the front entrance. She sits at this location to read the newspaper daily and sip on her old-fashioned steaming black coffee.

She can lose hours watching the birds fly to the feeder next to the window in her living room. Most birds have names that our grandmother is familiar with and recognises. She never skips a chance to observe the squirrels. Everything blossoms, and there are fresh flowers everywhere throughout the summer. In our town, the natural beauty is at an all-time high, and it's impossible to keep your eyes off the stunning surroundings. A pond is located behind the house. My cousins and I go fishing in the pond.

The village's residents lead simple, healthy lives. People care for one another and are always available. They make a lot of effort to maintain the facility's cleanliness because they care about it. We always look forward to our summer vacation so we may visit Grandma and Grandpa. Anyone who has met them will attest to their humility. All of this adds up to why I love my grandparents house and why it is my favourite place.

I’ve Traveled To 25 Countries And 6 Continents, And These Are My Favorite Spots

Being confined to one place has got me thinking about how much I love travel and the 25 countries and 150 cities I’ve seen over the past couple of years, as well as a few others I visited before I became a full-time nomad.

I’ve enjoyed all of my adventures, but my favorite places are the ones I can’t wait to return to. Here are a few of them.

Cape Town, South Africa

I felt a deep, visceral connection with Africa in general, but Cape Town, South Africa , was the first place I visited that I felt I could move to. It’s a fascinating combination of wealth, poverty, land, sea, mountains, and plateaus. I was touched by the profound sense of community in each neighborhood and how openly people talk about all that’s wrong politically and ethically. I volunteered at a squatter camp, making me feel deeply humbled.

I was delighted with my hikes to Lion’s Head and Table Mountain, and I miss my walks between Camps Bay and the V&A Waterfront as well as in the vineyards near Hout Bay.

Highlights of my time in South Africa were my tour of Woodstock Street with Juma Art Tours and my intimate experience of the Khayelitsha Township.

Cusco, Peru

Cusco, Peru , is a beautiful city, once you acclimate to the altitude. Arequipa is a close second, but Cusco’s narrow cobblestone streets where vendors and colors intertwine are simply magical.

I met with a shaman at the Museum of Sacred, Magical, and Medicinal Plants who gave me a reading based on coca leaves. I found myself so out of breath from the uphill walk to get there that arriving felt like a huge accomplishment. I was stunned at how accurate the reading was.

The food is delicious and affordable, and Cusco is the gateway to Machu Picchu . It’s a city you must see at least once in your life.

El Calafate, Argentina

The water views of El Calafate, Argentina, that I saw from the plane made my heart leap. I stayed at the Terraza Coirones Hotel and was stunned to silence by the beauty of the nearby Lake Argentina.

Though the town has a definite tourist focus, if you walk a block off the main street, you’ll discover a more authentic feel. On my first day there, I went to Elbar for a snack. The staff taught me all about yerba mate and how to drink it. Since then, it’s been an obsession.

Outside the city center is a walkway along the lake. I fell in love with the local dogs. They’re extremely friendly. They lie at your feet and will follow you if you pet them.

Of course, the main reason to come here is to see and hike the Perito Moreno Glacier, a must-do activity in Argentina . I used the Hielo & Aventura company and loved it. If you have time, the glacier cruise is unforgettable.

Islas Del Rosario, Colombia

Colombia was my introduction to South America, and it blew my mind. I went with concerns about guns and drugs . Instead, I discovered a nation of great people, excellent food, and some of the best coffee in the world. Some friends and I chartered a boat from Cartagena to the Islas del Rosario, and I couldn’t believe the color of the water. Lunch was carried straight from the ocean and cooked in front of us. It was a tropical paradise in an already paradisiacal nation.

Uvita, Costa Rica

I started my journey in Costa Rica and ended up in Uvita by accident. I had a mishap just before and almost gave up my nomadic life. Instead, I made a last-ditch effort to continue and found myself at a magical hotel complete with a lush jungle and beach. I ended up having a deeply spiritual encounter, meeting friends I’m still in touch with two years later, and getting so hooked on the Happier Than A Billionaire book (about an American couple that moves to Costa Rica) that I interviewed the author a year later.

Uvita is a tiny town with a waterfall and a laid-back vibe. I highly recommend the Hotel Samsara , a budget hotel with the best margaritas I’ve ever had. The owners are from Cuba and will make your stay perfect.

Easter Island, Chile

I still can’t believe I made it to Easter Island . It was a dream I didn’t know I had, and I will treasure it forever. I flew there on a Dreamliner for less than $300 round trip from Santiago. The plane was amazing, and the LATAM staff was even better.

The history of the island, especially the Moai, is still a bit of a mystery. If you go, invest in a tour guide to explain it to you. If you speak with them, you’ll also learn fascinating things. There’s no university on the island, so students have to go to mainland Chile to continue their studies, and some residents are so closely related to everyone on the island that they have to marry outside their population.

Horses and cows roam freely. There is no place on Earth like Easter Island.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam, is definitely one of the most fascinating cities I’ve visited. Weaving through the sea of motorcycles was both terrifying and exhilarating. After overcoming my fear, I noticed there was a rhythm. When I found my place in it, I crossed. I sometimes saw entire families sitting together on one bike.

Combine this with Vietnamese coffee, picturesque neighborhoods, and amazing food at low prices, and Hanoi is a winner. There are unexpected sights and sounds at every turn.

Madeira, Portugal

I celebrated my 50th birthday in Madeira, Portugal . I found a blend of Europe, Africa, and the tropics. Traveling on both sides of the island in a day, I found vastly different climates and temperatures. The hills were so steep that I couldn’t imagine how the cars could travel up them!

I drank the local rum, drove go-karts on a professional race track, stripped down to my bathing suit in public (with a towel) to swim in a beautiful grotto in the rain, and saw beautiful views and sunsets each day. I ate black scabbardfish with bananas, slid down hills on a toboggan, and tried an escape room in Funchal.

For a rather small island, Madeira is chock-full of interesting activities

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil , is another fascinating city I’ve been. Everything is built in and around rocky mountains. Every view from every place in the city is breathtaking, and I wanted to spend more time at every attraction I visited. I was told the city was dangerous, but it felt very safe. Walking in places I’d only heard about in songs, like Ipanema Beach, was surreal.

I learned to dance the samba in a church, and I found the Christ the Redeemer statue to be as spectacular as it looks in pictures. From the base, it seems impossible to get to — it’s mind-boggling to think how they built it. When you get to the top, all of Rio is around you. I was spellbound, and I plan to return soon.

Bayeux, France

Back in 1986, I spent a month with a host family in Louvieres, France. They introduced me to Bayeux, France , and I have returned almost every year since. The Bayeux Tapestry is a must-see, and don’t forget to look at the top and bottom of it, or you’ll miss the naughty bits!

I’ve visited the Bayeux Cathedral with my host mom so many times that it feels like home, but my absolute favorite place in the city is the Confiserie Reine Mathilde . They make the best mocha cake in the entire world, and I order it every time I’m there.

Reykjavik, Iceland

The first time I traveled to Reykjavik, Iceland , I felt like I’d landed on the moon. I’d never seen landscapes like the ones I saw there. For my birthday, I treated myself to a Blue Lagoon package and was the first person into it that morning. I have photos of it with nobody else there.

I didn’t get to see the Northern Lights, so I returned in 2017. Though Iceland has become quite touristy, I almost broke down in tears when I saw the lights for the very first time. It was so emotional that when I flew home, I made a last-minute decision to fly back the next day because the forecast for the lights was so good.

My favorite cities in the world are a blend of the wonderful people I’ve met , the food I’ve tried, the coffee and wine I’ve drunk, and the activities I’ve experienced. Though I’m momentarily stuck in place , my memories remind me how enriched I’ve been by these wonderful experiences.

But the more we travel, the more difficult it gets to pick just a few favorite places. There’s just so much beauty in our world…

Nevertheless, in this article, we share some of the very best, most beautiful destinations from over two decades of traveling . Amazing places from all over the world made this list of our favorite destinations. Find out!

Good to know: This list was originally published as 39 of our favorite places worldwide after 15 years of traveling, then updated to 43… In the meantime, we visited so many other amazing destinations that it was high time to update it with a few new favorites. We are still very selective with which places we choose to feature here, so those that make the cut are really special and have left a remarkably memorable impression.

In no particular order, here is our selection of the most beautiful destinations from all over the world:

1. Cape Peninsula, South Africa

Cape Town and the entire Cape Peninsula in South Africa is one of our absolute favorite regions in the world. We hardly ever travel to the same place more than once; Cape Peninsula is one of the few places where we gladly make an exception.

Some of the most beautiful places not to miss here are the Cape of Good Hope, the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive, the penguin colony in Simon Town, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Twelve Apostles Road, Table Mountain, and Signal Hill in Cape Town.

How to visit: The Cape Town area is best explored by car. If you are not renting a car, you can also take tours and excursions . Plan at least 3-4 days here, but a week would be better!

2. Algarve, Portugal

Algarve region in southern Portugal is our newest favorite travel destination in Europe. Talking about visiting places more than once… this is a place we have been to countless times and where we even see ourselves settling one day.

There is just something about Algarve that captures your heart. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and friendly people, Algarve is the best vacation destination you can imagine. Add to this fresh seafood, delicious wine, a wide variety of world-class resorts and restaurants, and affordable prices, and you’ll quickly understand why Algarve has been chosen as one of the world’s leading beach destinations time and again…

The coastal scenery here is absolutely breathtaking and Algarve’s beaches are unbelievably diverse. From long flat white sand shores with sand dunes, remarkable coastal cliffs with sea caves and grottoes, to some of the most impressive wild and rugged beaches of the western Atlantic coast, the coastlines of Algarve will leave even the most seasoned travelers in awe.

Some of the must-sees here include the coastal scenery of Ponta da Piedade , Benagil Cave , and the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail . Don’t miss Cape St. Vincent in Sagres , the southwesternmost point of the European mainland. It was known as ‘The End of The World’ before the Age of Discovery and it remains special today.

How to visit: The best way to explore Algarve is by renting a car and driving around. You can make a road trip, but the region is not that big, so it’s also perfectly possible to just stay in one place and take day trips. You can spend a few days here or a few months – there’s so much to experience!

3. Dolomites, Italy

Italy is one of our personal absolute favorite countries worldwide. Since we live in Europe, we travel there quite often. In fact, I could easily fill this entire article with our favorite destinations from Italy alone… But there are a few places in Italy that I just have to highlight a bit more. One of them is the Dolomites region.

Somehow it took us years to discover one of Europe’s most beautiful mountain regions, the Italian Dolomites … But after the first glimpse, we were hooked and went back to the region time and again.

All I can tell you is that these stunning mountains are worth a trip from the other side of the world!

Over the years, we saw some of the most beautiful mountain destinations in the world; such as Switzerland, Austria, Western Canada, New Zealand, and Norway. But the Dolomites have it all in one place: the azure-blue lakes of Canada, the Alpine scenery of Austria and Switzerland, and the rougher landscapes of Norway or New Zealand… If you love mountains, you’ll love it here!

Some of the most beautiful places are the iconic three peaks  Tre Cime di Lavaredo , Lake Braies , the whole Val Gardena area, countless mountain passes, Cinque Torri , and jaw-dropping  Lake Sorapis .

How to visit: The best way to explore the Dolomites is by going hiking. You’ll need a car to get around, but public transport is also available. If you only have a day, you can also visit some of the easier-accessible areas with an organized tour from various cities in Northern Italy .

4. Yellowstone National Park, USA

Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming USA is everything you would expect it to be and so much more. This is one of the most diverse National Parks in the United States. Top spot travel where inspiration meets destination!

Yellowstone is a magical place with beautiful landscapes, an incredible variety of wildlife, spurting geysers, colorful geothermal features, deep canyons, lush valleys, and even hot rivers that you can swim in… Definitely, a place you should put on your bucket list!

Some of the main natural landmarks not to miss are the Grand Prismatic Spring , the Old Faithful Geyser , the Yellowstone Canyon , Hayden Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs , and Lamar Valley. But there’s so much more to this incredible place!

5. Milford Sound, New Zealand

Milford Sound Fjord on the Southern Island of New Zealand is one of the most beautiful fjords in the world. It will take your breath away!

New Zealand is high on top of the most beautiful nature destinations worldwide, and Milford Sound is just one of the many spectacular natural landmarks we visited in New Zealand.

How to visit: Milford Sound can best be visited by boat tour . If you don’t have a car to get there, you can also visit it as a day trip from Queenstown or from Te Anau .

6. Mopion Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

A tiny Mopion Island is one of the most unbelievable places we have ever been to. This island can be found near Petit St. Vincent resort-island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean.

We were at Petit St. Vincent for our honeymoon and the resort organized a boat transfer to this tiny island for us. There was nobody else around us the whole day – just the two of us, this tiny umbrella, and the sea. Oh, and the picnic basket with a bottle of champagne, and the snorkeling gear for hours of underwater fun.

Extraordinary experience! But you sure hope that the boat comes to pick you up in the afternoon…

How to visit: If you stay in the Petit St Vincent resort, they can arrange the boat transfer for you. Otherwise, you can only get here by private yacht or by hiring a boat from one of the nearby islands.

7. Red Center, Australia

Australia’s Red Center is one of the most unique places in the world. Australian Outback is vast and you’d need weeks and months in order to travel around it. But there is one area that’s worth visiting the most and that’s the area between Alice Springs and Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park.

The Red Center is so much more than just Uluru (formerly known as Ayer’s Rock)! The West MacDonnell Ranges , Kings Canyon, and the stunning red rocks of Kata Tjuta are worth the visit just as much!

If you visit just one region in Australia, make it the Red Center, the true heart of this incredible continent!

How to visit: Australia’s Red Center is best explored in a 4×4 car and can be best reached from Alice Springs which has an airport. If you don’t want to rent a car, you can also take organized excursions and multi-day tours .

8. Bruges, Belgium

We live in Belgium and often forget how privileged we are to have some of Europe’s most beautiful cities within such an easy reach. No list of our favorite places in the world would be complete without mentioning Bruges .

If you visit just one place in Belgium, make it Bruges! It’s one of Europe’s most beautiful fairytale towns and one of our absolute favorites.

How to visit: You can easily get to Bruges by car, by train, or by taking a day tour from Brussels or from Amsterdam . In Bruges, the best way to explore is walking, plus taking a boat tour on the canals.

9. Lake Garda, Italy

Lake Garda is our favorite of the Italian Lakes. It combines the best of Italy in one: stunning mountain scenery, charming towns and villages, history, culture, but also plenty of activities for the whole family.

Some of our absolute favorites include Malcesine, Sirmione, Limone sul Garda, and Riva del Garda. Make sure to drive all around the lake and also take a boat tour around Sirmione. A boat trip on the northern side of the lake is also a must!

If you are visiting Italy in the warmer months, Lake Garda is not to be missed! If you like beautiful nature, quaint little villages, and Italian lifestyle, you will love Lake Garda and the other Italian lakes in Northern Italy.

Tromso in Northern Norway was one of those destinations that made me fall in love with winter travel. If you are looking for an incredible winter destination that truly has it all, then look no further!

Tromso is a real winter wonderland with activities such as reindeer and dog sledding , polar fjord cruises, snowmobiling, ice hotel visits or overnight stays, and aurora hunting .

In fact, Tromso’s location right on the Aurora Circle makes it one of the very best places to see Northern Lights in the world ! Yes, one of the very best in the entire world! If seeing auroras is high on your bucket list, Tromso is the place to be!

How to visit: Tromso is just a short flight from Oslo and other Scandinavian capital cities. There are also direct flights from some other places in Europe. Once in town, you can walk or take public transportation pretty much everywhere you need. For winter activities outside the city, tour operators offer free pick-up in Tromso.

11. Loire Valley, France

The famous Loire Valley is world-known for its stunning castles. If you like to visit some stunning palaces and castles that look straight from a fairytale, then this might just be the perfect destination for you!

Some of the finest castles of the Loire Valley are Château de Chambord, Chateau de Chenonceau, Château de Villandry, Chateau d’Azay-le-Rideau, and Chateau d’Usse. Don’t limit your visit to just one castle, the region of Loire with hundreds of castles is worth exploring deeper!

How to visit: The best way to visit the castles is by car. If you want to take it easy, plan at least 3-4 days here. But there are also organized tours available that cover several most popular castles in one day, also as a day trip from Paris.

12. Berner Oberland Region, Switzerland

Berner Oberland is one of the most beautiful regions in Switzerland. The mountain sceneries here are out of this world! There are so many beautiful places to visit, charming towns, phenomenal hikes, and countless activities for the whole family… You can spend weeks exploring this region and still not see it all!

We have been here so many times, in summer and in winter, and we go back almost every year again. If you know that we hardly ever go back to the same place twice, this probably says it all. Switzerland is one of the few places in the world where we can visit and revisit again and again.

There are so many beautiful places in the Berner Oberland region that it would be hard to pick our favorites. Here’s a list of some of the nicest places – choose any of these and you can’t go wrong!

• Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe  – a must-see, at any time of the year!
• Schynige Platte  – a hidden gem of Switzerland
• Grindelwald- First – the best mix of activities and jaw-dropping sceneries. If you only have one day in the region in summer, this is the place to be.
• Oeschinensee Hike – one of the best hikes in the world!
• Interlaken Day Trip  – with several suggested 1-day itineraries
• Trümmelbach Falls  – underground waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen
• Jungfrau Region in Winter  – just as beautiful as in the summer
• Skiing in Wengen – one of our favorite ski resorts

How to visit: Stay in Wengen or Grindelwald for a few days. From there, you can take trains and gondolas to the most popular places. Hiking is the best way to explore the mountains! Interlaken is also a good place to base yourself; it just depends on how much time you have and what you’re planning to do.

13. Santorini, Greece

Santorini Island in Greece is like no other place in the world! You’ll instantly recognize its typical whitewashed buildings against the rugged volcanic landscape.

And yes, it truly is as beautiful as in the pictures! Just be aware that you will not be enjoying the romantic sunsets alone – millions of tourists visit Santorini every year.

How to visit: Santorini is a popular stop on many Mediterranean cruises. You can also fly here from Athens and – in high season – from all major European countries.

14. Jasper & Banff National Parks, Canada

There are moments when you see a place so special that you know immediately that it was worth the whole trip. The tiny Spirit Island in Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park and the incredibly picturesque Moraine Lake in Banff National Park were such places for us. Wow!

Pictures don’t even do justice to the stunning landscapes of this part of Canada. The beauty of nature will take your breath away!

How to visit: Rent a car and make a road trip. There are so many possible itineraries, but no matter what you decide to do, make sure to include both – Jasper and Banff – in your trip.

15. The Azores, Portugal

If you are looking for stunning nature and sceneries that will take your breath away, I cannot recommend the Azores highly enough. This Portuguese archipelago is Europe’s hidden gem!

There are 9 islands in the Azores. The main one that most people visit is Sao Miguel . It’s absolutely amazing and there’s so much to see and do including the stunning Sete Cidades Lagoon and the geothermal area of Furnas !

But our personal favorite was the secluded Flores Island . At the time of our visit, there were less than ten rental cars and two hotels on the island. It felt like we traveled back in time to when tourism wasn’t the thing yet… I’m sure this has changed in recent years, but still – it’s a well-kept secret that not many people know about.

How to visit: You’ll need to fly to the Azores. The best flight connections are from Lisbon , but there are many direct flights to other European destinations as well. Island hopping by plane and sometimes by boat is the best way to discover the various islands. On the bigger islands, it’s best to rent a car and explore on your own. Organized tours are often available as well.

16. Arches National Park, USA

Utah is home to some of the world’s most magical natural landmarks. Monument Valley , Bryce NP, Zion NP , Canyonlands NP … I could fill half of this list of amazing travel destinations without ever leaving the state of Utah… But if I have to choose just one, it would be Arches National Park .

With over 2000 arches and the most incredible scenery, Arches National Park is truly one of a kind. Furthermore, from all the most unique nature destinations we ever visited in the world, Arches NP is one of the easiest and most simple to visit.

If you live in the U.S. and remember just one travel idea from this list of our favorite places, let it be Arches! Also because its’ a perfect destination the whole year round.

There’s a lot to see and do in Arches. The absolute must do’s are driving the Arches Scenic Drive and Hiking to Delicate Arch !

How to visit: Stay in Moab hotels as your base for this area including the nearby Canyonlands NP. Arches is best explored by car and hiking. If you want to get off the beaten path, you can also consider 4×4 tours and many other activities (see our guide to the best Moab tours ).

17. Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland

Iceland is like a whole different planet! I could fill this entire list of our favorite travel destinations with so many amazing places in Iceland .

But if I have to choose just one and one that you can easily visit, it would have to be Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon . This lake is filled with icebergs coming from the nearby glacier. It’s an ever-changing spectacle and it’s different every time you visit. A true wonder of nature! In summer or in winter, it’s worth a trip to Iceland all by itself!

How to visit: You can get to Jokulsarlon by car or by joining a multi-day tour. Day trips to Jokulsarlon from Reykjavik are also possible. The lagoon itself can be explored by taking boat tours between the icebergs and you can also just walk along the shore.

18. Venice, Italy

With its medieval palazzos, richly decorated gondolas, hundreds of bridges, canals, and unforgettable romantic atmosphere, Venice is worthy of any bucket list. And so no list of the best travel destinations in the world would be complete without mentioning Venice.

We’ve been to Venice several times and it just never gets boring. Some of the best places to see in Venice are the famous St. Mark’s Square with its Basilica and Campanile, Doge’s Palace , Rialto Bridge, and the Grand Canal. A gondola ride in Venice is also an absolute must!

How to visit: Venice can be reached by car or public transport from other major cities in northern Italy. And because you can see the best of Venice in one day , it’s very easy to include in any Italy trip itinerary. Once in a city, the best way to explore is by walking.

19. Svalbard, Norway

If you are looking for truly unique destinations to visit, then look no further – Svalbard is as off the beaten path and as good as it gets! Just 1.050 km (650 miles) from the North Pole, Svalbard is one of the most remote destinations on the planet.

I visited Svalbard in winter and it was even more special than going in summer, I suppose. Extreme Arctic winter temperatures in combination with vast empty landscapes and few daylight hours, make you appreciate the majestic nature even more… At the same time, Longyearbyen, the main town in Svalbard, is a very lively place with many cozy cafes and contemporary restaurants.

This unique mix is something that cannot be described. You just have to experience it yourself. And you’ll want to go back before you even leave!

How to visit: Despite its remote location, Svalbard is actually very easy to get to. It’s just a 3-hour flight from Oslo and a 1.5-hour flight from Tromso in Norway. Once in Svalbard, you have to take guided tours for everything you ( boat tours , snowmobiling , dog sledding , etc.). This is a polar bear country and you should never leave town without a local guide who carries a gun.

20. La Digue, Seychelles

Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean is one of the typical honeymoon destinations. But there is so much more to Seychelles than white sand beaches and luxury resorts!

We went island-hopping in Seychelles and visited several islands in one trip. It was surprising to see how much variety there is and how different many islands are. We saw stunning landscapes with granite boulders and giant palm trees, walked among two-hundred-year-old tortoises, drank coconut milk on the beach, and snorkeled among thousands of colorful fish and turtles in the ocean…

But if I have to choose just one island that I recommend the most, it would be La Digue . It’s easy to visit on your own, has good facilities and infrastructure, and some of the most incredible scenery. There’s also a good mix of activities, beaches, and local culture.

How to visit: La Digue can be easily reached by boat from the nearby Praslin Island or with a sailing tour. Praslin is the second-largest island in Seychelles and has good boat- and air connections to Mahe. Mahe is the main island where the International Airport is located.

21. Tulip Fields in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is famous for its tulips and there is no better time to visit the country than in the spring. If you arrive in Amsterdam by plane, make sure to get a window seat as the view over the colorful flower fields is absolutely incredible!

Even the most unromantic person will be impressed by the colorful tulip fields stretching as far as an eye can see.

How to visit: The easiest place to see tulip fields near Amsterdam is Lisse, just next to the famous Keukenhof Gardens. You can get here by car, with a shuttle from Amsterdam airport, with a transfer from Amsterdam , or by joining an organized tour .

22. Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is one of the most impressive man-made structures we ever set a foot on. It’s impossible to imagine the true scale of this wall stretching over the hilly landscapes for thousands of miles. And even when you stand there, you get just a glimpse of it…

If you can visit more remote parts of the wall, you’ll enjoy it more. But even if it’s a busy place, you can usually escape the biggest crowds by taking a longer walk on the wall.

How to visit: The easiest way to visit the Great Wall is by taking a transfer or an organized tour from Beijing . Just do some research before you go, maybe pick a private or a small-group tour , and try to avoid the crowds!

23. Deadvlei, Namibia

It’s difficult to find the right words to describe such a remarkable destination as Deadvlei in Namibia. It’s a magical, surreal place that has no equals anywhere else on Earth.

Go before sunrise if you want to have the whole place to yourself as we did. It’s a unique experience to see the desert wake up in the morning.

How to visit: Deadvlei is part of the more famous Sossuvlei area. You’ll need a 4×4 vehicle to get here, but even then, many people will advise taking a vehicle driven by local guides for the last few kilometers. We drove all the way to Deadvlei in our own 4×4 and it was doable, but we also saw many cars stuck in the sand along the way. You can also visit here with organized tours from Swakopmund or Windhoek .

24. Rome, Italy

Rome , the Eternal City, is probably the most beautiful city in the world. I often call it a city-museum: there is so much art and history everywhere you go! And no matter how many times you visit, you’ll always discover something new.

On your first visit don’t miss the Colosseum , Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, the Vatican with St. Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel, St. Angelo Bridge, and Castel Sant’Angelo.

Make sure to also get a bit off the beaten path in Rome , see some of the best views over the Eternal City , and visit Rome’s underground sites as well!

How to visit: Rome can best be visited on foot or by bike. Stay in the heart of the city center and prepare to walk a lot! Make sure to get skip-the-line tickets for all the main landmarks, or you risk standing in line the whole day (see Rome travel tips for more info).

25. Maroon Bells, USA

Maroon Bells in Colorado are said to be the most photographed mountains in the United States. But no matter how many pictures you have seen, you won’t be prepared for the stunning beauty of the place!

Go early in the morning to beat the crowds and see the incredible reflections on the lake. If you have a few hours to spare, you can also hike to the nearby Crater Lake. This is one of the best day trips in the Colorado Rockies!

How to visit: Maroon Bells are just a short ride from Aspen, CO , and can be reached by car. In high season, you’ll need to take a shuttle bus.

26. Disko Bay, Greenland

Remote and less-visited nature destinations are always among our absolute favorite places in the world! There’s just something so special to discover places that are so totally different than anywhere else you’ve ever been… Disko Bay in Greenland was like that for us!

We visited the town of Ilulissat that is world-famous for its Ilulissat Icefjord , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It exceeded all our expectations! And we also spent a few days in Qeqertarsuaq on the nearby Disko Island, one of Greenland’s best-kept secrets.

Icebergs higher than cruise ships floating in the ocean, whale spotting from the shore, dog sledding in summer, witnessing a local wedding in Qeqertarsuaq , and watching the stunning midnight sun from our hotel room the whole night – those are just some of our favorite memories from that trip…

How to visit: There are direct flights (+-3hrs) to Ilulissat from Reykjavik or Copenhagen. From there, it’s a 2-hr boat ride to Disko Island. In Ilulissat and Qeqertarsuaq, you can simply walk anywhere you need to be and there are guided tours available as well.

27. Li River, China

We were lucky to visit China before the big economic growth changed the country and its people for good. We didn’t know what to expect and were amazed to discover such a rich culture and incredibly beautiful nature.

This trip was long before our pre-blogging days and we don’t remember many practicalities of that trip, but we do remember the places we loved the most. Li River was one of those places that we remember even years later. Absolutely stunning!

How to visit: We visited China with a small-group organized tour and if we ever go back to the more rural areas, we’d go on a tour again.

28. Hermanus, South Africa

Hermanus in South Africa is my husband’s favorite place from all our trips. What is there not to love about this spectacular coastline where you can watch dolphins and whales from ashore!

One of our best memories from South Africa is having a picnic and watching dolphins from the spot in this picture.

This is the best place to watch whales in South Africa and one of the best in the world! So make sure to book a whale watching boat tour as well!

How to visit: Hermanus can easily be visited by car or with a tour from Cape Town . Often, you can see whales and dolphins from the shore, but if you want to see them close by, it’s best to take a boat tour.

29. Prague, Czech Republic

Without a doubt, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Prague will surprise and enchant you. It’s a city that does not yield to Paris, Rome, or London.

For a long time, Prague was my personal favorite city in Europe. But its popularity has taken its tall and the city has become so crowded… Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful destination, well worth visiting, just try to avoid the peak season!

Some of the nicest places to see on your first trip are the Old Town Square with is famous Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and Prague Castle.

How to visit: Prague has a big international airport with direct flights from many destinations. Once in the city, it’s best explored on foot.

30. Cape Cross Seal Reserve, Namibia

The sight of more than 100,000(!) seals at Cape Cross seal reserve in Namibia is impressive, to say the least. It’s an unforgettable experience to walk amongst so many wild animals. We have seen many seals in the world, but this place is like nowhere else. Unbelievable!

They say that the sound and the smell is something that stays with you forever. We were lucky to visit on a very windy day and so we missed the smelly part of the experience, but the sound was incredible indeed.

How to visit: Cape Cross Seal Reserve is just a short drive from Swakopmund. You can make a half-day trip or stop here on your way to Twyfelfontein or the Skeleton Coast. As in most other places in Namibia, you’ll need a 4×4 to drive here, but the road is very good.

31. Trakai Castle, Lithuania

I couldn’t make any list of our favorite places without mentioning Lithuania, my home country. There are so many great places to see, but first-time travelers usually don’t go much further than Vilnius and Trakai.

Trakai is also one of our favorite places to spend a day and we go there every time we are in Lithuania.

The beautifully restored Trakai Castle is worth a visit, but if you have the chance, make sure to also explore the lake and the whole area around it. To truly appreciate the beauty of this place, you would have to see it from above – the castle is built on an island that is surrounded by lakes and forests as far as the eye can see.

How to visit: Trakai can be easily reached by car or by train. There are also organized tours from Vilnius .

32. Great Ocean Road, Australia

Great Ocean Road in Southern Australia is one of the most popular destinations in Australia. More than 20 million tourists more travel to this area every year, and most of them go to see the famous Twelve Apostles.

However, there’s so much more to the Great Ocean Road (GOR) than just this one viewpoint! Make sure to escape the crowds and take your time to explore the beautiful coastline beyond the most famous lookout points. There is so much you can see and do here. Don’t miss the Kennett River Koala Walk – one of the best places to see wild koalas in Australia

How to visit: GOR is in Southern Australia; the closes big city is Melbourne . You’ll need a car to drive this road and stop at its many scenic spots. Alternatively, you can also visit with a tour from Melbourne.

33. Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands can be found in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Norway and Iceland. This 18-island archipelago is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and is really close to continental Europe. Yet, it feels like a world apart.

It’s difficult to pick just one or two favorite places here. Don’t miss Saksun village, Vestmanna bird cliffs, Mykines Island puffins, and the capital town of Torshavn. Our favorite place was the area around Kallur Lighthouse on Kalsoy Island. Phenomenal scenery!

How to visit: The Faroe Islands are just a short flight away from Copenhagen, Denmark. There are also direct flights from Edinburgh, UK, and Reykjavik, Iceland. Once on the islands, you can see most places by renting a car or by basing yourself in Torshavn and taking organized tours .

34. Paris, France

No list of the best destinations in the world would be complete without mentioning Paris ! Love it or hate it, Paris is a true bucket-list destination that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.

On the first trip, don’t miss the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, a boat ride on the Seine River, Louvre Museum , Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Élysées, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, Montmartre , and Moulin Rouge. D’Orsay Museum is really nice too and a day trip to Versailles is a must as well!

How to visit: Paris is big and you’ll have to walk a lot. For bigger distances, consider a hop-on-hop-off bus or hop-on-hop-off boat. Metro is the fastest way to get around the city. Check out our tips for visiting Paris and make sure to get tickets for all the main landmarks in advance!

35. Terracotta Army in China

No matter how many pictures of Emperor Qin’s terracotta army you had seen, you cannot be prepared for how impressive it is in reality.

This in itself is worth a visit, even if coming from the other side of the world. A must-see if visiting China!

How to visit: The Terracotta Army can be found inside the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi’an town. Pretty much all China tours will include it in their itinerary. If you are traveling individually, you can also book a guided tour once you are in Xi’an.

36. Mont Saint-Michel Abbey, France

There is something about the abbey of Mont Saint Michel that is difficult to put in words. It has incredible views and such a unique atmosphere.

The place is magical at night and crowded with tourists during the day. If you can, try to visit off-season or avoid the crowds by staying the night and exploring the place after the day tourists have left.

How to visit: Mont Saint-Michel is located somewhat remotely and you’ll need a car to get here. There is a big car parking from where you can either walk or take a shuttle to the island itself. If you don’t have a car, you can also visit with an organized day tour from Paris .

37. Taj Mahal, India

We have been to so many places in the world and in most cases, we left longing to go back. India, however, is one of the very few destinations that didn’t have this effect on us. Maybe we should give it a second chance one day…

Anyway, Taj Mahal , one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, is worth a trip to India all by itself! It’s a fascinating place that has to be experienced first hand. Definitely one for your bucket list!

How to visit: Taj Mahal is located in the town of Agra, about 3-4 hours drive from Delhi. If you are staying in Agra, you can visit individually or take a private tour . And if you are coming from Delhi, you can best take an organized tour .

38. Tuscany, Italy

Oh, Italy… We could fill this entire list just with our favorite places to see in Italy … But if you are looking for just one region that encompasses the best of Italy in one place, then you cannot go wrong with Tuscany !

Tuscany truly has it all: the most beautiful landscapes, historical towns, wonderful art, Italy’s best wineries, great food, and (usually) good weather.

Some of the best places to visit are, of course, famous towns such as Florence , Siena , Pisa, or Lucca. But also the Tuscan countryside with its rolling hills and cypress trees and charming medieval towns and villages is a must! One of our favorite smaller towns here is Montepulciano .

How to visit: There are good railway connections between the main towns in Italy. The towns are best explored on foot. If you want to visit the countryside, it’s best to travel by car or take organized tours.

39. Burj Khalifa, Dubai

I was a bit skeptical about visiting Dubai with kids as it seemed such an artificial city. In a way, it is. But you just have to admire the vision of the people who turned a small village in the desert into the world metropolis that Dubai is today!

There is so much to see and do in Dubai, but Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world – is definitely not to be missed. It’s hard to imagine what a building of 828 m (2,717 ft) looks like until you stand right under it and look up. Dazzling!

How to visit: You can take an elevator to the 124th floor and also visit the 125th floor of Burj Khalifa (make sure to book your tickets in advance !). Going at sunset gives you the best experience as you can see Dubai at dusk and, if you wait a bit longer, also in the dark. If you want to go even higher, it’s possible to visit the 148th floor as well. Those tickets are a bit more expensive and give you a somewhat different experience, with fewer people around.

40. Alsace Region, France

Alsace is one of our favorite regions in France. Its charming quaint towns with half-timbered houses, beautiful countryside, vineyards, and regional cuisine make it one of the best destinations in France!

Our favorites are the picturesque town of Colmar and of course Strasbourg . If you can, take a trip through the countryside and also visit some of the most beautiful towns on the Alsace Wine Route such as Eguisheim , Kayserberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, or Obernai, to mention just a few.

How to visit: Strasbourg can be easily reached by train from Paris and Colmar is just a short train ride from there. The towns themselves are best explored on foot. For the countryside, you’ll need a car, but there are also many amazing tours available.

41. Mauritius

Mauritius has always intrigued me. This paradise-like island in the Indian Ocean is a popular honeymoon destination, but it has so much more to offer than just its white-sand beaches and luxury resorts.

Despite its rather compact size, Mauritius offers more diversity than I ever imagined. There is so much to see and there is a big range of activities available. Of course, you can just stay on the beach the whole day, but you’d be missing so much. So if you already make the trouble to fly that far, go out and explore!

How to visit: Mauritius has an international airport with direct flights from Europe, India, several African destinations, etc. Once on the island, you can rent a car and explore individually. Taxis are also available, but distances are bigger than you’d think. If you are staying in a resort and just want to take an occasional day trip, you’ll find plenty of tours available.

42. Okaukuejo Waterhole in Etosha National Park, Namibia

Why does a waterhole make it to my top destinations list? Okaukuejo in Etosha National Park is not just any waterhole; it’s like watching the National Geographic channel live!

Hundreds of animals come and go all day (and night) long. All you have to do is comfortably install yourself on one of the many benches facing the waterhole and let the African wildlife come to you. It’s not the same as going on safari, of course, but it’s an incredible experience, one that is not to be missed in Namibia!

How to visit: You’ll need a car for Etosha NP. Organized tours are also available. If you can, book at least one night at Okaukuejo Camp.

43. Bali, Indonesia

Bali is one of our favorite destinations in Asia. To me, it’s the best of Asia on a rather small surface, allowing you to get a taste of a very different culture without having to travel around too much.

However, we visited Bali many years ago, before it became crazy popular. So I’m not sure how I’d feel about it today. But in the days when we were there, it was a wonderful mix of pristine nature, rich cultural traditions, and nice beaches and holiday resorts.

How to visit: Bali has a big international airport with direct flights from all over the world. Once on the island, it’s best to hire a private driver to get around. Driving there is hectic and I’d leave it for the locals!

44. Lofoten Islands, Norway

Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway is one of the bucket list destinations for any outdoor lover! The scenery here is absolutely amazing. With stunning fjords, steep mountains, and traditional rorbuer cabins dotting the landscape, the Lofoten archipelago is picture-perfect!

You can spend just a few days here or a few weeks and you’ll find plenty of amazing things to see and do in Lofoten . Most popular are, of course, nature activities and especially hiking. But you can also go kayaking, take some boat trips, see wildlife, or visit one of the many museums to learn more about Viking history or the fishing industry in the region.

In the summer, you can experience the magical Midnight Sun here, and in the winter season, you may get lucky to see the Northern Lights.

How to visit: The best way to explore Lofoten Islands is by car, but you can also plan a trip using public transportation. There are several airports nearby, you rent a car or take a bus, choose one or several nice places to stay in Lofoten , and explore. It’s as easy as that.

45. Panorama Route, South Africa

Panorama Route in South Africa will always hold a special place in our hearts! There’s a good reason why I wanted to end this list of our favorite places with it.

When I first met my husband, we traveled a lot. However, after extensive traveling for several years, we both had a feeling that we had seen so many beautiful places that it was difficult to get excited about a new destination. We decided to take a break.

After a while, we booked a 2-week trip to South Africa . On the first evening, we were staying close to Kruger NP and a couple of hippos walked into the garden of our hotel, just meters from the table where we were having dinner. The next day we were standing at this viewpoint on the Panorama Route and my husband said something I’ll never forget: ‘j ust when I thought that we’ve seen it all, South Africa has proven me wrong’.

It was here, at this place, that we knew that we would continue to travel as much as we could, as often as we could, and as far as we could. We now have three kids and don’t travel as often or for as long as we’d want to. Still, we try to make the most of the school holidays, explore the world, and show our kids how beautiful and diverse it is.

So, here is the list of some of our favourite destinations in the world. Of course, this list isn’t complete (or it would have to be 454545 amazing places all over the world). This just scratches the surface of all the amazing destinations we have visited. It was really hard to choose what to feature here and what to leave out.

Either way, I hope that this will inspire you to travel more and to discover new places. And maybe you’ll decide to visit several destinations from our list as well.

One more thing I really want to say. There is always something new to be discovered, no matter how far or how close to your home. But once in a while, you should broaden your horizons and take that trip to another country or even to the other side of the world. It will change you forever!

Thanks for the list of wonderful destinations. Here also thanks for tips regarding boating in Svalbard. I was able to go to Pyramiden 2 months ago and I really enjoyed the beautiful sceneries. Regretted not able to spot the polar bear.

GREAT list. I find it amazing that the 2 USA national parks on your list are both on my top 5 favorite USA national parks. Yellowstone is my #1 favorite.

@Jurga, Yellowstone #1 Zion National Park is my #2 favorite. Glacier National Park (International Peace Park in conjuction with Canadas' side of the Park) #3 Grand Canyon #4 and the Arches National Park #5.

1. Dan & Audrey ( Uncornered Market ): Pamir Mountains – Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

The Pamir Mountains is one of more remote and stunningly beautiful places we’ve ever been, and this remains one of our favorite road trips of all times.

Not only were we mesmerized by the high mountain and desert landscapes around us, but we were also repeatedly humbled by the hospitality of people we met.

As most of this route does not have traditional hotels, we would stay in simple family home stays and this cultural element really added a unique dimension to this trip.

2. Shayne ( Le Misstache ): Sagada

My favorite place on Earth is Sagada, located in the Mountain Province, Philippines. The sunrise above the clouds is one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had. It’s one of the many things that keep me coming back for more.

3.  Flora the Explorer : Colombia

My favourite place on earth has to be Colombia. I was so nervous about travelling through the country alone before arriving, but before I knew it I fell head-over-heels for the wonderfully kind people, the beautiful scenery and the indescribable awareness that I just seemed to fit in.

I’ve been back to Colombia three times now, and every time I fall for a different element or another part of the country. More than that, though – Colombia represents the pride I have about being scared to go somewhere but doing it anyway!

4. James & Susan ( The Savvy Backpacker ): Paris

We’ve seen a lot of cities in Europe but our favorite place in the world will always be Paris.

The city is simply magical — especially at night when the monuments are beautifully illuminated. But Paris is most special to us because it’s the city where we first lived as a married couple.

5. Crizzy ( Crizzy Kiss ): Keukenhof Park, Holland

Experiencing the tulips in Holland at Keukenhof Park was almost unbelievable!

Nothing compares to a walk in park where thousands and thousands of flowers in full bloom. It was just so fascinating!

6. Sonal & Sandro ( Drifter Planet ): Neil Island, India

Away from the “real world”, Neil Island is a tiny paradise island with empty white sand beaches and the bluest water that I have ever seen. This is one of the most remote parts of the planet and there is usually no cell phone connectivity here.

This place charmed me with its stunning beauty, simple village life, extremely polite (and sweet) locals, amazing seafood curries and simple village life! I would love to live here.

7. Drew ( The Hungry Partier ): Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is my favorite place in the world.  I studied abroad there for 5 months in 2012 and that was my very first trip overseas.

That was the first time that my eyes were open to the world.  I instantly became obsessed with travel after Prague, and that city will always have a special place in my heart

8. Soumya ( Travel Books Food ): Tanzania

I spent 17 years of my life in a beautiful country called Tanzania in Africa and that is why it is my favorite place in the World.

In addition, wildlife here is phenomenal. Many destinations like Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National park, Ngorongoro national park, Zanzibar etc are world famous.

9. Stefan & Sebastien ( Nomadic Boys ): Komodo National Park

We love scuba diving and The Coral Triangle reefs in the Komodo National Park is a paradise for divers.

We went diving here in September 2015 and were completely spoilt, seeing reef sharks, turtles and a plethora of tropical fish in every single dive. It’s absolutely stunning and blew away all our other diving experiences.

10. Jennifer & Kids ( Kid Friendly Europe 101 ): Croatia

My children and I’s FAVORITE place (at the time being) has to be Croatia. Why?  My kids absolutely loved it and they keep talking about it!

We stayed at Pine Beach Eco Resort (all inclusive) in Pakostane. We stayed there the entire time.  The resort had so many amenities such as their GORGEOUS beach, kayaking, kid’s club and a high ropes course. It was a very relaxing resort.

11. Lizzie (Pocket Planet): Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

The Bay of Kotor – a huge, winding bay at the northern end of Montenegro’s coast – is nestled in amongst the mountains, giving its still waters an incomparable tranquility, and making its scenery utterly breathtaking.

Dotted around the edge of the bay are many small towns and villages, all equally picturesque, built in light coloured stone.

The Bay of Kotor has a blissful serenity that would be difficult to spoil; that is why it is my favourite place on Earth.

12. Cathy ( RoarLoud ): The White Mountains, New Hampshire, USA

With so much wildlife, waterfalls and mountain trails I may never see all of it but I will never stop trying to see it all!

13. Evan ( Pretty Wild World) : Malta & Gozo

Malta & Gozo is a small country near Sicily of Italy – small but certainly beautiful.

Diverse in culture with beautiful sceneries but my most favourite spot in here is the Blue Lagoon between the two main islands of Malta and Gozo; the water was so clear blue, almost can fool you because it looks untouched but rest assured it has its mystic side with the ability to lure you to its beauty hence the many tourists visiting it every year

They say once you’ve been to Sahara, you always want to go back and it’s true!

Do you want to discover the second highest African Mountain – Atlas, drive through amazing valleys and river canyons, ride a camel across the desert and at the end sleep under the stars in the middle of Sahara? Then don’t miss out on these experiences in Morocco!

We have to admit this is one of the most amazing things we have done so far!

 16. Janet ( Journalist on the Run ): Iceland

My favourite place on earth has to be Iceland. I know that it’s an entire country, but every corner of it takes my breath away. I was only there for the first time recently and it is already my favourite place in the world.

Where else can you sit in a hot spring sipping a cold beer, watch geysers shoot water 100 feet into the air and chase the most stunning waterfalls from dawn til dusk? Iceland, that’s where!

17. Tarah & Tip ( Fit Two Travel ): Jamaica

Not only is this where we spent our first week together as a married couple, but the warm, tropical beaches and the wonderful culture that surrounds Jamaica, really make this island such a treat.

18. Sally Around the World: Koh Rong Samloen, Cambodia

Just a 30 minute boat ride from it’s popular neighbor Koh Rong, Samloen is an island paradise. It has no WiFi and the electricity is run off a generator for only a few hours a day. It has one bar and one shop with a few guest houses that line the beach.

We camped in tents on the beach and spent the days exploring the island and relaxing on the beach. Be careful at night as the farmers let their herds of Water Buffalo roam the beach. Bumping into them after a few beers was a bit of a shock. Fortunately you can smell them before you see them!

19. Angela & Dave ( Dang Travelers ): Southwest Ireland

Our favorite place on earth is southwest Ireland. It is a magical area with dramatic cliffs, rolling hills, and romantic castles. We were enchanted by its beautiful landscapes and friendly people.

20. Luke (Backstreet Nomad): Lake Louise, Canada

Lake Louise has always stood out to me as one of my favourites. I visited once in the winter, then when I lived in Calgary a few years later a visit back in summer was a must.

Covered in ice in the winter and the odd canoe in the summer, but ever peaceful and always beautiful.

21. Amy ( The Wayfarer’s Book ): Tintagel

As you climb the rugged cliffs over the unruly Atlantic waters, it’s easy to believe that kings and knights once gathered here and that a mysterious wizard lived in one of the caves below.

22. Dannielle ( While I’m Young ): Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city where a grand past collides with an even more vibrant present. The twisting cobbled streets, imposing Georgian architecture and vast amounts of green space make the urban vibe all the more alluring.

Visit during the Fringe festival, when the cosmopolitan atmosphere is at its best! My favourite thing about Edinburgh (aside from the sound of bagpipes and Scottish men in kilts!) is that it’s so compact: you can walk everywhere!

23.  Adventurous Miriam : Slovenia

Slovenia is one of my favorite countries. It’s small and yet so diverse, it’s not overrun with tourists, and the nature looks like something taken right out of a fairy tale.

No question, Slovenia is the hidden gem of Europe.

24. Erica ( Girl, Unspotted ): Virgin Island, Bohol, Philippines

Surrounded with nothing but azure water, clear blue skies, and immaculate powdery sands, Virgin Island was an instant favorite. We ate fresh uni with our hands, swam and played in the water, and walked (yes, walked) to the middle of the sea.

25. Taylor ( Taylor’s Tracks ): The Grand Canyon, USA

For me it was the fact that The Grand Canyon was the first natural wonder that I had seen, it was the first time that I was in awe of nature, and it was the first time that I felt that my time there felt too short.

The moment I set my eyes on The Grand Canyon I knew I would be back, and I knew that I wouldn’t be satisfied until I explored its beauty even more.

26. Rhoni ( Living Our Life ): Cusco, Peru

Cusco is a hub for outlying areas.  The people are very friendly and welcoming.  Access to all types of food is very easy. You are situated in the mountains and have a temperate climate.  We ended up staying 8 months without trying to.

27. Sabrina ( Just One Way Ticket ): The Philippines

28.  Anamika Ojha : Niagara Falls

Since I came to United States, Niagara Falls was first in my checklist of exploring the places in the United States.

When I saw the Niagara Falls for the first time, I was mesmerized by its natural beauty. It was magnificent, powerful, beautiful, splendid, surreal and hypnotic.

Any of these adjectives could not be sufficient to describe the ‘glory’ of the majestic Niagara Falls. I had an amazing experience with the Falls.

29.  Valery Collins : Madonna di Campiglio

Despite having been travelling for 19 years and visited over 70 countries I am always happy to return to Madonna di Campiglio a small mountain resort that nestles in the Dolomite Mountains.

The skiing in the winter is great, tree-lined slopes dotted with cosy restaurants and the walking in the summer is amazing.  But best of all – I always feel at peace there.

30. Mel ( A Broken Backpack ): Lucky Bay, Australia

I was in a Tourism Office when I saw this magazine.  On the cover; one of these famous kangaroo getting a tan on a beach.

I was even more in love when I met these lovely creatures on a white sand beach with a perfect turquoise water background.

31.  Karla Around The World : : Coffee Bay, South Africa

Have you been to the Transkei in South Africa? I wouldn’t have known about it had I not been toured by a local. Coffee bay is my favorite place on earth, it has vast unspoiled landscapes and everything is just scenic. Y

ou can choose to roam the mountains, beaches, round houses and more. It’s the perfect place to hike, to surf, to chill , to relax or to simply just have a good time. If only the roads were a lot better though. Nonetheless, it’s still worth the trip.

32. Marisa ( The Traveling Story Girl ): Heidelberg, Germany

From 3 euro liters of beer to the long walks up the castle walls, Heidelberg is a place that will make anybody fall in love with Germany.

33. Nikoleta (The Bonfire Dream): Donauturm, Vienna, Austria

My favourite place in the world is Donauturm in Vienna.

It is a little heaven where I can appreciate the beautiful city below me, face my fears by trying bungee-jumping, or go for a romantic coffee. It gives you distance and makes you feel like flying, even if you are not jumping 😛

34. Jaimee ( Travel Pray Love ): Hallerbos Forest, Halle, Belgium

This forest is essentially something out of a fairy tale from May-June every year. Thousands and thousands of bluebells blooming in lush green grass…it’s just such a peaceful place to be.

You can walk, hike, bike or even horse-back ride through the miles of trails in this forest.

35. Gabby & James (The Globe Wanderers): Mykonos

If you visit Mykonos and don’t fall in love with it, you’re a lunatic. The whitewashed walls, maze-like streets, beautifully friendly people and utter food-heaven around every corner will knock your socks right off.

This island is so charming, it has our hearts and it will take yours too.

36. Paige ( For the Love of Wanderlust ): Cambodia

An afternoon stroll through a market is even an experience – barefooted women look over their catches and interact with others. It’s just magic.

37. Nikki ( Where is Nikki? ): Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest volcanic caldera and the views inside and on the edge of the crater are just indescribable – you feel like you’re in another world completely and the vast landscape really does make you feel like a tiny dot on this big beautiful earth.

Home to over 30,000 animals, it’s also the perfect place to feel like you’re in the real-life version of The Lion King and get up close to some of Africa’s amazing wildlife.

38. Nikita: Galway, Ireland

Long solo walks by the Bay, even longer nights at the pub with newfound friends, the streets that came alive with music and the silence of the vivid green hills, the bountiful, unparalleled kindness that could be found around every turn…

My memories from Galway are a patchwork of unexpected friendships, laid-back charm and stunning scenery. This was the first place I travelled to alone, and I couldn’t have hoped for a better way to be reborn.

39. Lena ( Travelena ): Island Flores, Indonesia

Ngada people rely on crafts and farming, they are very cheerful and open. Although we didn’t share a common language, we spent time together sharing our cultures in non-verbal ways:)

This grandma treated me to a local delicacy: a euphoric beetle nut (that’s why her mouth is so red, from the nut).

40. Shawn & Katie (The Lucky Couple): Little table, Cafe Lipe, Pattaya Beach, Thailand

We just came back from Koh Lipe yesterday, twice while we were there Shawn claimed this one little table at Cafe Lipe on Pattaya beach as his favourite place.

It is hidden, cozy, and always includes cold beer and delicious curries. Feel free to use either picture, it’s the cute table on the right 🙂

41. Sonja ( Migrating Miss ): Shetland Isles, Scotland

My favourite place on earth is the Shetland Isles, Scotland. Tracing my family history led me to this fascinating group of islands in the far north, closer to Norway than mainland Scotland.

I fell in love with the bare but beautiful landscape, broken with the ruins of stone houses abandoned after hard times.

There is so much to see, from ancient settlements and stunning beaches to the Up Helly Aa Fire Festival every January. The Shetland Isles make me feel both isolated yet surrounded by the beauty and history of the world.

42. Conor ( Bean Abroad ): Sarajevo

My favourite place so far has been Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was the first place I went to on my big trip this summer and I completely fell in love with the place. I

‘m a civil engineer so am really interested in architecture and Sarajevo perfectly combines the ornate, ostentatious central European style of the 18th Century with the wooden and, to me, somewhat exotic Ottoman style with its cobbles and narrow alleys.

I love history and Sarajevo is as tragic as it is fascinating as it has unwittingly been the crucible of some of the most important and disastrous events of the last century. The two architectural styles collide abruptly but the mixing of different ethnic and religious groups is obvious and after talking to friends who live there it appears that the different communities are working together to move forward from the horror of the Yugoslav wars.

It is the most cosmopolitan city I have ever been to and I love it! It’s also super-cheap so is great for students like myself.

43. Patricia & Sean ( Travels & Tipples ): The Netherlands

My favorite place on earth is the Netherlands. I love everything about it – the canals, the museums, the architecture, the people, the food (cheese!), the history, the windmills, the live-and-let-live attitude, and last – but not least – the beer!

It’s an easy drive for us from Germany and my heart truly soars as soon as we cross the border.

The beaches are tranquil and beautiful, the food and drink are simply delicious, and even three years later, I still hold it incredibly close to my heart

It’s a place that juxtaposes perfectly a balance between the extreme and the tranquil. From extreme to serene, whatever end of the spectrum you are in and everything in between, Queenstown has everything to offer. It all depends on how you’re feeling that day.

46. Tanbay & Laura ( Travelling Weasels ): Sao Miguel Island

One of our favourite places on earth is Sao Miguel Island in the Azores, because it is ripe with delicious foods, geographical wonders and landscapes straight out of Jurassic Park.

We hitch-hiked for the first time ever here, bathed in natural hot springs and even saw wild dolphins and whales! It’s unlike anywhere else we’ve been in Europe and we highly recommend it.

47. Gabi ( The Tiny Book ): Elafonisi, Crete

If you live in Europe and you are lucky enough, you can get excellent deals with low cost airlines. Due to all the protections the government has imposed on this place, water and sand are really clean, the environment is protected and there’s no pollution. There are less and less places like this in the World these days.

On one side this experience offered us the chance to enjoy a super clean environment, on the other hand it helped us teach our children a good lesson: if you take good care of the environment, you can enjoy a better landscape.

48. Natasha ( The Boozy Backpacker ): Bangkok, Thailand

I’m in love with Bangkok the way that some people are in love with other..well..people.

I love the heat and cacophony and filth of the place, the way everything is either “coming soon” or simmering in hundreds of years of decay. In Chinatown, down the alleyway next to Loftel22 Hostel, where there’s sometimes an old woman selling steamed pork buns and jasmine tea.

Whenever I arrive in the city it’s the first place I go, like a pilgrimage.

49. Christianna (Expecto Adventures): Horseshoe Bend

The hike to reach this point is 1.5 miles roundtrip, under the hot desert sun, but it is well-worth the trip. Sitting on the edge of the 1,000 foot cliff and soaking in the magnificent view is truly an experience you’ll never forget!

50. Trisha ( P.S. I’m On My Way ): Paracas, Peru

It is not too touristy but a lot of backpackers swing by on their way to Lima. In this place, I can write, read, do yoga and be whoever I want to be. Though it is a thousand miles from where I am from, I consider Paracas as my home.

At the heart of this ethereal valley lies a sparkling turquoise lake, reflecting the surrounding mountains like a mirror. Its calm and serenity are simply awe-inspiring, leaving me in awe of nature’s unmatched beauty. Sitting by the lake’s edge, I watch as the sun paints the sky in a breathtaking palette of hues during sunset, bidding farewell to another day.

My 31 Favorite Places to Visit in the USA

From sea to shining sea, the United States is home to a diverse landscape — both culturally and physically. Spending months traveling across it gave me a deep appreciation for all my country has to offer.

After traveling across the continental United States as part of multiple cross-country road trips (you never really realize how big Texas is until you drive through it. Damn that state is big!), I wanted to share some of my favorite places in the United States with you. I’ve already talked about my favorite restaurants and lessons learned , so it only seems proper to give you a list of the best places to visit in the USA when you come and travel here!

To help you get started, here’s a quick overview of some of the highlights:

In no particular order, here’s my detailed list of the best places to visit in the USA:

( Note: This list is based only on where I myself have been. There are a lot more incredibly breathtaking places I haven’t explored yet, which is why you don’t see them on this list!)  

WHERE TO STAY IN MEMPHIS : Hostel Memphis – A hip hostel in a century-old building with a fully-equipped kitchen and free Wi-Fi. The hostel is also a non-profit that donates 100% of its profit to social justice causes around the city.  

Thanks to everything from the growing food truck population to the flagship Whole Foods store with the incredible salad bar (grilled pineapple!), I eat — and eat well — nonstop. The Austin campus of the University of Texas provides a youthful vigor to the city, and its liberal attitude attracts a diverse and eclectic population. In short, you can’t skip Austin, because if you do, I’ll find you and drag you there.

WHERE TO STAY IN AUSTIN : Firehouse Hostel – This centrally-located hostel is located in an old firehall from 1885. They have fast Wi-Fi, plenty of chill common areas, and an amazing on-site bar that serves top-notch craft cocktails.

3. New Orleans

WHERE TO STAY IN NOLA : HI New Orleans – An award-winning hostel with spacious dorms, comfy beds, privacy curtains, and fast Wi-Fi. Everything a budget traveler needs!

4. Asheville

If you’ve ever seen Downton Abbey, that’s what the house is like! (And, if you haven’t, you should! The show is addicting!)

WHERE TO STAY IN ASHEVILLE : Bon Paul & Sharky’s – A laid-back hsotel with a spacious front and back porch for relaxing. There’s free parking, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of nearby restaurants and cafes.  

5. The Pacific Coastal Drive

WHERE TO STAY ON THE PACFIC COAST HIGHWAY : Airbnb – Airbnb is your best bet here, unless you have camping gear and want to camp in one of the many parks. There are also lots of cheap motels along the highway too.  

6. Redwood National Park

WHERE TO STAY IN REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK : View Crest Lodge – Located on the coast in Trinidad, this rustic budget-friendly lodge has basic amenities like free Wi-Fi and TV, and some of their rooms also have full kitchens. It’s a clean, comfy no-frills place to crash for a night.  

7. Glacier National Park

WHERE TO STAY IN GLACIER NATIONAL PARK : Camping – Pack (or rent) a tent and cozy up for a few nights under the stars. You won’t be disappointed.  

WHERE TO STAY IN DENVER : Ember Hostel – This boutique hostel is rated one of the best in the country, offering a swank interior, free jacuzzi, outdoor firepit, comfy beds with blackout curtains, free parking, and more.  

And once the winter deep freeze is over, Chicagoans burst out of their homes to enjoy the summer weather, so there’s a positive, happy vibe emanating through the city. Take advantage of it.

WHERE TO STAY IN CHICAGO : HI Chicago – A spacious, clean hostel with female-only dorms, free Wi-Fi, and a great location. The beds are comfy and the common area is huge so it’s easy to meet people.

10. New York City

WHERE TO STAY IN NYC : Jazz on the Park – Located near Central Park on the Upper West Side, this no-frills hostel is close to the train and is one of the more affordable places in the city. The dorms are basic and the beds aren’t winning any awards but it’s cheap (for NYC at least!).

11. Natchez

Now, they are historic monuments, and you can tour them while enjoying a view of the Mississippi River. It’s far off the beaten path — and my favorite discovery from my last road trip.

WHERE TO STAY IN NATCHEZ : The Guest House Historic Mansion – If you want to splash out, this 19th-century mansion includes free breakfast and spacious historic rooms as well as modern amenities like Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and flatscreen TVs.

12. Savannah

WHERE TO STAY IN SAVANNAH : Thunderbird Inn – This affordable three-star motel is just a short 5-minute walk from downtown. Boasting a retro vibe, there’s free coffee and juice every morning, as well as free donuts and popcorn available in the lobby.  

13. The Grand Canyon

WHERE TO STAY IN THE GRAND CANYON : Camp – Pack (or rent) a tent and cozy up for a few nights under the stars. You’ll need to reserve a spot early though as they disappear fast!

14. Nashville

There’s not a lot of “touristy stuff” to do here, but what makes this city one of my favorites are the music, the food, the wildly friendly and happy people, and the positive energy the city seems to exude. When you’re here, plan to spend a few hours at the Tennessee State Museum. It goes into great (though sometimes very one-sided) detail about the state’s history, but it’s more exciting than you might think.

WHERE TO STAY IN NASHVILLE : Red Roof Inn – While it’s not centrally located, this is one of the city’s few affordable two-star options. A quick 13-minute drive from the Grand Ole Opry, this budget-friendly joint boasts an outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, and free coffee.  

15. San Francisco

WHERE TO STAY IN SAN FRANCISCO : Green Tortoise – As one of the oldest in town, this hostel is an institution in San Francisco. It offers free breakfast, free dinners multiple times per week, and even a free sauna! It has a huge common room so it’s easy to meet people and has a very fun, social atmosphere.

WHERE TO STAY IN MIAMI : Generator Miami – This hostel has a pool, two restaurants, a bar, and is just minutes away from the beach. It’s massive (there are 8 floors), the beds are more comfortable than the cheap ones you’ll find at the party hostels.

17. San Diego

The downtown Gaslamp area — as well as the famous Pacific Beach — is full of trendy seafood restaurants, bustling bars, and some seriously life-changing taco stalls. I love San Diego .

WHERE TO STAY IN SAN DIEGO : ITH Adventure Hostel – With a focus on sustainable travel (there’s a vegetable garden and backyard chickens), this chill hostel is very friendly and social. It’s clean, and the water pressure in the showers is decent, and the beds are comfy too.  

19. Lake Tahoe

WHERE TO STAY IN LAKE TAHOE : Camping – Pack (or rent) a tent and cozy up for a few nights under the stars. You won’t be disappointed.  

20. Anywhere in Montana

WHERE TO STAY IN MONTANA : Treasure State Hostel – Located in downtown Bozeman, this hotel is quiet, clean, and is home to friendly staff. They organize all kinds of events too, like pub crawls and movie nights, so it’s easy to hang out and meet people.  

21. Washington D.C.

WHERE TO STAY IN WASHINGTON : Highroad Hostel – Offering pod-style bunks, this cool hostel is located in an old Victorian mansion. The beds have memory foam mattresses, there’s a fully-equipped kitchen, and the common area has a fireplace.

22. Cape Cod

WHERE TO STAY IN CAPE COD : Cape Sands Inn – Just a short walk from the beach in West Yarmouth, this three-star property has all the standard amenities (TV, coffee/tea, free Wi-Fi), as well as free parking and a relaxing sauna and hot tub.  

It’s home to a ton of activities, like the Freedom Trail and Faneuil Hall, the JFK Museum, and the Boston Commons and Public Garden, as well as some of the best Italian and seafood restaurants in the country. Be sure to eat at Zaftigs for the best brunch in the city! It’s wicked!

WHERE TO STAY IN BOSTON : HI Boston – This spacious and clean hostel is just a short walk from pretty much everything in the city. They have female-only dorms, free Wi-Fi, and several chill common areas where you can meet other travelers.

24. Las Vegas

Get off the Strip, explore the real Vegas (because technically the Strip is located in Paradise, NV, not Las Vegas), and see why people decide to live here.

WHERE TO STAY IN LAS VEGAS : Sin City Hostel – Just a short walk from the (in)famous Fremont Street, this is a social hostel that hosts all kinds of events (such as bar crawls, pasta & wine nights, BBQs, casino nights, and more). It’s a great place to connect with other travelers.

25. Portland

Portland is just an awesome city, especially in the summer when the weather is perfect and there are festivals and events galore, like the World Domination Summit and the Portland International Beerfest.

WHERE TO STAY IN PORTLAND : HI Portland – Northwest – Rated one of the best hostels in the world, this centrally-located HI hostel offers free breakfast, in-house made craft beer, an outdoor courtyard with a firepit, regular live music, and much more. It’s a lively, social, and fun place to stay!

26. Seattle

WHERE TO STAY IN SEATTLE : Green Tortoise – Located right across from the iconic Pike Place Market, this social hostel organizes all kinds of activities so it’s easy to meet people. They also offer free breakfast — a rare perk in the US!

27. Deadwood

WHERE TO STAY IN DEADWOOD : Gold Country Inn – This kitschy hotel is one of the cheapest places in town. Located right downtown, they have a mini gambling hall on-site, free Wi-Fi, and free parking. It’s nothing fancy but it won’t break the bank either.  

28. Kansas City

WHERE TO STAY IN KANSAS CITY : Home2 Suites Downtown – With a fitness center, pool, and a decent breakfast spread, this three-star hotel in downtown KC is one of the more affordable places to crash in the city.  

29. Louisville

Louseiville has a laid-back, artsy vibe to it. It feels much more like an Austin or a Portland than your traditional southern/midwest city. In the past, it was considered a fly-over city and was skipped by most people. It’s definitely not now.

WHERE TO STAY IN LOUISVILLE : Microtel Inn – While it may be 20 minutes from downtown, this budget-friendly inn is affordable, includes free breakfast and free parking, and has free Wi-Fi. It’s a no-frills choice but clean and comfy.  

30. Charleston

WHERE TO STAY IN CHARLESTON : Charlestons NotSo Hostel – Located in a historic neighborhood, this laid-back hostel includes free coffee/tea and oatmeal and free Wi-Fi. The rooms are small but the beds are perfectly comfy.  

31. Franklin

WHERE TO STAY IN FRANKLIN : The Harpeth Hotel – This upscale property features a restaurant on-site, fitness center, bar, and terrace. If you don’t want to splash out, check Booking.com for other options.

The United States is filled with too many “must-sees” places to visit to list in a single blog post. After all, the country is home to over 329 million people and covers 3.8 million square miles.

But for those looking for a starting point for where to go, what to see, and the places to visit, this list should point you in the right direction and fill your time!

Just be sure to turn off the highways, head to the small towns, and discover some favorites of your own. The best of the USA is always away from the major highways in the little no-name towns with little diners, quirky shops, and friendly people!

Firstly, let me tell you why Sydney is my favourite place. Sydney is like a beautiful painting that has come alive. The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro

You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..

The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.

If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..

Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.

The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya

To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

Novoslobodskaya

It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

Prospekt Mira

Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya

On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice.  For me, this station resembles a presidential palace.  You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya

When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii

Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!

Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.

You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.

It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say

I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.

Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!

Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.

My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne

My work as a guidebook writer has taken me all over the world, from the war-scarred streets of Angola to the high-spirited parades of Seville during the spring feria.

Although I've written travel guides for 66 spots around the globe, these 10 places have made a particularly strong impression on me.

Havana remains one of my favorite cities in the world to visit.

I've visited Havana over 30 times and studied and researched the city for 10 different guidebooks.

It's endlessly entertaining, unique, and complicated. I love the Cuban city for its irrepressible street energy and animated, resilient people.

When first arriving in town, I gravitate to the historic squares and thoroughfares of the Old Town and then head for a lengthy stroll along the Malecón sea drive.

Here, at one of the city's most famous meetup spots, I can get a handle on the city's mood, reacquaint myself with my Cuban friends, and see what's changed since my last visit.

Abruzzo is at the top of my list when it comes to regions in Italy.

I've researched 18 of Italy's 20 regions for Lonely Planet, but Abruzzo still sits at the top of my list.

The fiercely traditional region of tall, rugged mountains and authentic hilltop villages is in central Italy. It's conveniently close to Rome but less visited by the hordes of tourists making beelines to Florence and Venice.

I particularly like Abruzzo for its impressive network of well-marked hiking trails (one of Italy's understated joys) and intricate jigsaw of wild national parks, home to the rare but majestic Marsican bear.

I have a deep affection for Andalucian culture, and the city of Granada distills it perfectly.

All the best elements of the region can be found in the southern Spanish city of Granada, from gritty live flamenco shows to atmospheric bathhouses with romantically lit pools encircled by horseshoe arches.

I recommend finding time to stroll the narrow, winding streets of the Albayzín quarter with its dark Moorish teahouses and walled mansions overflowing with jasmine and bougainvillea.

But the highlight of Granada and, arguably, all of Spain is the Alhambra, the elaborate Moorish fortress and palace complex in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

It's worth braving the many queues and crowds for.

Jasper is my favorite of Canada's national parks.

I live in Canada , and Jasper stands out as my favorite national park in the country.

The Alberta park is centered on a compact, down-to-earth town and has 4,200 square miles of spectacular backcountry that makes it surprisingly easy to access vast, unsullied wilderness.

One minute, you'll be snacking on muffins and coffee in the Other Paw Cafe, and the next, you'll be hiking with bear spray on a trail above Maligne Lake.

I especially recommend taking a scenic mountain-bike ride through the rootsy, rocky Valley of the Five Lakes.

Ibo is one of the more obscure places I have researched and it's also one of the most magical.

Ibo Island is located way off the beaten track north of Mozambique.

When I last visited the Quirimbas island in 2016, getting there was part of the thrill. I had to take a traditional wooden dhow, a type of Indian Ocean sailing boat.

Once on dry land, I found myself in a lost world of gnarly trees and crumbling semi-abandoned houses and mansions, some of them reborn as tasteful lodges.

The island is a fascinating mix of Swahili, African, Arabic, and Portuguese influences.

Jamaica's Treasure Beach is very laid-back.

Treasure Beach — the string of beach-shack-style villages on Jamaica's south coast — is so laidback it's practically prostrate.

It's a perfect place to roam carefree along quiet country lanes, help homecoming fishers haul in their daily catch on the sand, and crack open a beer while watching a game of cricket.

I especially love Treasure Beach for its slow-cooked food, including jerk chicken, goat curry, and the quintessential "breakfast of champions" — ackee and saltfish (my all-time favorite).

In my opinion, Jamaican cuisine is second only to Italian in the global pecking order.

Ilha do Mel is a haven off the coast of Brazil.

Ilha do Mel — "Honey Island" — is a small vehicle-free island off the coast of Southeast Brazil.

It's ideal for surfing, swinging lazily on a hammock with a caipirinha, and casually communing with nature. Most of the island is protected in a state park, and daily visitor numbers are strictly controlled.

My favorite thing to do there is a beach hike to the Fortaleza Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, a marvelously mildewed historic fort lapped by Atlantic waves.

Skagway, Alaska, is filled with history and scenic views.

I've long been obsessed with the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s, where 100,000 miners headed toward Alaska hoping to find gold.

In Skagway, the event's legacy has been painstakingly preserved.

The town of about 1,000 residents is a popular stop for cruise ships , but the summer crowds don't take away from the wonderfully preserved Gold Rush-era buildings expertly managed by the US National Park Service.

Costumed guides even help bring the town's history to life.

Capurganá is an isolated village in Colombia that's worth journeying to.

Capurganá is a small, isolated settlement surrounded by jungle in the Darien Gap on the border of Colombia and Panama.

It's physically detached from the rest of the nation, and the only way to get there is via boat across the choppy Gulf of Urabá.

Once docked, you'll be treated to unpaved, traffic-free streets — no cars allowed on Capurganá.

When I last visited Capurganá in 2018, the diving was superb. I also highly recommend hiking amid toucans and howler monkeys along the 3-mile jungle trail to Sapzurro.

Kuélap, Peru, has spectacular ruins.

Kuélap is a walled settlement located in the mountains of Peru. It was constructed by the Chachapoya people, a sophisticated pre-Inca civilization.

These spectacular hilltop ruins are sometimes referred to as Northern Peru's answer to Machu Picchu . It's higher and older than its southern cousins and set among a dramatic backdrop of clouds.

Since it's located in the country's little-visited Northern Highlands region, I've found it considerably less crowded than other Peruvian ruins.

Even so, cable cars have been installed in recent years to make accessing the ruins much easier.

A place to throw concerns away or a place that may remind you of beautiful memories and you love sitting in it reminiscences those moments. Also it may be a place to change the mood.

Sea is that horizon that takes you to another world, where you reminiscences your beautiful memories, which gives you the psychological comfort and happiness with its breaking waves.

The sea is one of the most beautiful blessings for man, which shows the greatness of the Creator.  Words can’t describe the sea beauty and charm, which is an inspiration to many poets and writers. Poems and thoughts that talked about sea are uncountable.

The beach is my favorite place. Sit down to relax and think. I also go to it to practice many activities and games.

I join my friends in playing treasure hunt in the sand, which is based on hiding various objects down the sand and writing instructions on paper cards to help others reach them.

I build sand in the form of castles, palaces and compete with my friends to choose the ideal building design.

I go with my children to the beach. I make a kite and fly it in the sky. It’s fun if you take your children with you.

My favorite place is the beach, where I practice my hobby of fishing, which I love very much. I feel so happy from the start of the day that I start getting ready to go out for fishing and contemplate the beauty of nature.

Leave time for a day trip from Santa Barbara

There are several day trip options from Santa Barbara, including visiting nearby wine regions such as the Santa Ynez Valley . Beyond wine tastings, the Santa Ynez Valley is also known for its horseback riding. A popular place to visit is the Alisal Ranch , located on 10,500 sweeping acres, with 100 horses trained for riders who are beginners having their first lesson, to an expert wanting an exhilirating trail ride.

Located approximately 300 feet above sea level, as the sun starts its descent behind the hills, the sky transforms into a breathtaking canvas of fiery hues. It’s a scene that captures  Santa Barbara’s rich natural beauty, and the magical sunsets become forever intertwined with the unforgettable experience of the live show.

“Favorite” Review of Aist

There are several places that I normally prefer to go to, and some times this list changes. But not that one. Any time I think about quiet place with a perfect delicious dishes and nice ambiance, I think of Aist cafe. I enjoy very much sitting on the terrace up stairs, and I also enjoy the atmosphere on the first floor restaurant. I would change nothing there. Everything is on it's place. Staff is very friendly and professional, and they make you feel very comfortable. Aist is situated in the very centre of Moscow and in the same time it is in the very quiet place, and it is like you escaped from Moscow-traffic-jam's reality to the island of tranquility, style and peace, where you can relax and spend a time drinking cofe with the tiramisu, or eating some usually tipical spagetti but unbelievable tasty ones. I recommend this restaurant - it is nice, calm and relaxing with a really tasty dishes and perfect ambiance and service.

Been a few times, usually when guests in town. Be warned it is pricy for sure. Still have been there with just one friend once and all i can say is we had the best fun, tries great food + a bunch of different drinks. We had some fun that is for sure and were probably last to leave! After that night we both agreed we must come and come again :-) Another time i went with a group, we had really good fun, the food was very good & the wine flowed. We did sit outside & it was quite chilly. Still it is a place with good atmosphere and it gets interesting characters all te time, its a real see and be seen place. fun fun fun...

Hard to believe how a restaurant can be so expensive. A tuna tartar , a green salad a glass of wine and an espresso summed up to 70 euro

If you want to have a good dinner wi9th excellent service good food and choice Aist is a nice choice. It is aNovikov venue that is always dependable somehow pricy buy worth the experience. The entrence level is a very nice cafe.. In summer you can enjoy outside garden and top terrace too..

Quite place just in the heart of Moscow. Tasty food, attentive staff. They also serve there tasty waterpipes.
