Unforgettable afternoon in Napa!

I highly recommend Julie and her company, Hidden Napa Jeep Tours if what you are seeking is an afternoon of touring some of Napa's smaller, family owned wineries. Julie is a gem! We were very impressed with her service and attention to detail when planning our day. Also, we have wonderful memories of the relaxing afternoon that we spent speaking one to one with winery owners and caretakers about their product and process. We tasted some delicious wines while taking in serene views of the Vally and left with memories that will last a lifetime! We highly recommend this tour.

If you want a truly personal, unique and totally fun experience in Napa - do this tour. I have been to Napa several times prior to this trip, but Julie made this occasion so special and so perfect, that I just cannot say enough! Book this trip now and thank me (actually Julie :) later. Thank you for making our trip SO special!!

We were in San Francisco for a few days and wanted to make a day trip to Napa Valley. We knew we wanted something more intimate and personal...NO tour buses or limos. After much research on trip advisor and the internet we decided on Hidden Napa Jeep Tours, and we were so glad we did! Touring through Napa in an open air jeep...we couldn't resist! Prior to our trip Julie contacted us to discuss what we wanted out of our tour and what our preference in wines were. Don't think your going to get that much personal attention from a big group tour. We traveled by ferry to Vallejo where Julie met us. Although the day was overcast, we loved the open jeep and the fresh air. We were able to smell the fragrant sents Napa had to offer from the sweet foliage to the sourness of freshly crushed grapes. We made four stops on our tour. Two were at small private wineries, one being at the longest single family owned vineyard in Napa (Saviez Vineyards...a must stop on your tour!). The other were at the private homes of the winemakers. With the exception of one, they were all private tastings. (One was with another group of just three. It was still very personable and fun) We had a picnic lunch that Julie served at one of the gorgeous homes overlooking the valley. Having private tastings with the winemakers gave us the opportunity to hear their stories and really learn about their love of wine! We also had ample time to ask questions about the wines, how to taste, and the growing and harvesting process. None of this we could have gotten on a larger group tour. Julie was not only our driver but our own personal tour guide of Napa. She was extremely knowledgable of the Napa area and its history and wine itself. She has some impressive personal relationships in the valley making our tour a truely unique experience! She was extremely gracious throughout the day. While we were at a tasting, Julie even ran out to get a box for us so we could bring our wine home on the plane. Talk about service!! I cannot say enough about our experience with Hidden Napa and Julie! If you are looking for a unique and personal tour of Napa, Hidden Napa is the definite choice!!

What an amazing experience! Why would you sit cramped up in an expensive limo when you can be in an open air jeep? The best part about Julie's tour is hitting the small wineries you would never find on your own. Not only were the views awesome, but we actually had one on one time with the winemakers themselves. This is a totally different experience than hitting the wineries off the highway. Hidden Napa is probably the best way to get a feel for the passion and hard work that goes into winemaking. I loved being able to take home wines that I will never find in New York. The tour was relaxed and Julie was incredibly hospitable and respectful. The time I'm back in Napa, I am booking this experience again!!

As a surprise for my wife’s 40th birthday, I booked a trip to San Francisco. A friend suggested as part of the trip that we should take a winery tour in the Napa Valley. We are not wine connoisseurs, but we do enjoy our wine. While researching the types of tours, I came across Hidden Napa Jeep Tours. This type of tour sounded great, as it would be more personal than the large bus tours and we could see some of the smaller, private wineries. We are not the “limousine” type and the idea of being able to see the surrounding landscape from the back of an open air Jeep sounded pretty cool. After talking with Julie directly, I knew that I had made the right decision. She was very attentive to our needs and catered the day for my wife’s birthday. Although based out of Napa Valley, Julie was able to pick us up in San Francisco. Being from Calgary I had mentioned that we would like to stop near the ocean before heading out for the day. Julie suggested that we stop at Muir Beach, where my wife and I were able to have a romantic walk along the beach and explore some tidal pools before the crowds arrived. When we left Muir Beach, Julie provided mimosas and fresh croissants for the drive to Napa. The scenery was beautiful and the fresh air and sunshine provided by having the top off the Jeep was fantastic. Julie even had asked us our music preferences, so she could have the appropriate music for the day! When we arrived in wine country, we stopped at some of the smaller private wineries that I suspect are not on the typical tour stops. At two of the three wineries, we were the only guests there! The highlight of the day was our stop at Saviez Vineyards. Mike Saviez was a gracious and generous host who showed us around and taught us a great deal about the wine process. Mike is very knowledgeable and personable and was open to answering all of our questions. He made us feel very much at home and I highly recommend visiting Saviez vineyards. Julie had prepared a picnic lunch, which we ate on Mike’s front porch overlooking his vineyard. We sampled several different wines, which I must say have become my favourites (we even ordered a case to be shipped home). I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Julie was a great person to spend the day with and if you want to get away from the crowds and take “the road less travelled” then the Jeep tour is the way to go. This was our first winery tour and I cannot imagine a better way to learn about wine and the Napa Valley!

Travelled to San Francisco in April and decided to take a one day trip to Napa. We hadn't rented a car and neither did we want to join any of the big bus, totally touristy tours. I found Hidden Napa online and emailed Julie who owns this venture. These are trips to Napa in an open top jeep! On a beutiful sunny day, the scenery is just spectacular and I couldn't think of any other way to discover Napa....stuffy limo I don't think so! Julie was absolutely a pleasure, we emailed quite a bit before we arrived in San Francisco, gave her some ideas on the types of wines myself and partner loved drinking, she came back with lots of the suggestions. Julie knows many of the smaller producers, family run businesses where you are not shuffled along in groups. We visited four wineries and my favourire was "Frias", you must go and meet Mani. This is a family run vineyard they have amazing Syrah wines. Julie has cultivated some amazing relationships in the valley, knowing the latest and greatest and makes your trip truly personal and romantic. If you are travelling to San Fran and thinking of taking a trip to Napa, give Julie a call, I would totally recommend her day trips.

Great tour - Julie went out of her way to make sure we weren't rushed, and took us to some really great wineries. Will definitely be coming back!

Julie is amazing! She is friendly, willing to work with you and your needs, and really knows how to show hospitality to anyone who is visiting Napa. We felt very welcomed and she took us to some great places. Even the wineries that we visited, the people only had wonderful praises for her. She provides tours year around and thinks of everything. She made this a worry free, stress free vacation!

Julie was the best. We were a little late getting in so she got our lunch ahead of time so everything was ready and we could start our tour immediately. She took us to some amazing wineries and offered great insight. I highly recommend this your. Super reasonable and you get to see the hidden gems of Napa!

As a resident of the SF Bay Area for most of my adult life, I've enjoyed many weekends of incredible wine tasting along the "HWY 29 comfort zone." In search of something more to celebrate my 50th birthday on a "girls weekend", I decided to book a 6-hour tour with Hidden Napa Jeep Wine Tours. My stepson had raved about his experiences with this service over the past few years & I concur, "what an unforgettable experience it was!" The open air jeep was comfortable and added to the whole experience allowing us to take in all the scenery and beauty that the Napa Valley has to offer. We set out on a fun-filled adventure and visited several family-owned wineries. All of Julie's pick wineries were amazing and Julie's planning and timing of the entire day was flawless. It was so nice to enjoy without any of the hassles of planning the itinerary or worrying about transportation. My favorite of the wineries was Krupp Brothers, a winery nestled in the eastern Mountains with spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay & Mt. Tamalpais while tasting generous pours- the Krupp M5 Cabernet was out of this world! When we walked out of our 2nd winery, Julie had our picnic spread of gourmet cheese & crudites (that we had picked up earlier in the day at Oxbow Public Market) waiting for us. Thank you Julie & Hidden Jeep Tours for unlocking my secret obsession to visit every hidden gem winery in Napa. I have since returned for a second tour with my husband and enjoyed an equally unforgettable experience. I am sure that we will be back for more.

Julie did a great job and found some unique wineries to share with us. She was very flexible as we changed our minds several times before the day. The true sign of greatness was the little touches like bringing water for us and a tablecloth for our picnic in a gorgeous spot we would never have found. She kept us on track but never rushed us and gave us a great deal of privacy. Wonderful way to see Napa.

We visited Napa to celebrate my husband's return from Afghanistan. Julie's tour allowed us to make the most of our limited time in the area. She took us to smaller wineries, off the beaten path. Each location was amazing. There is no way we could have found them and lined up a tour and tasting on our own, much less several in one day. In between tastings, the ride in her jeep was incredible. She could not be more accommodating. I would recommend her tour to anyone who wants to avoid the crowds, experience multiple small wineries with individual tastings in one day, or just enjoy the the scenery from the back of an open air jeep wrangler!

Hidden Napa Jeep Tours Tours is fantastic! Whenever I have friends or family visiting I immediately think of Julie and her unique Jeep tours. She provides a laid back yet highly personalized tour of family-owned wineries. Julie is a fun and organized guide who takes a lot of care to tailor our trips around us, and made some great suggestions based on the wines we like. And when we asked, she was happy to provide a picnic lunch. Cozy tastings (most with wine makers or owners), gorgeous views, and a relaxing atmosphere...there is no better way to experience Napa Valley.

A Unique Wine Tour in Paso Robles with Central Coast Jeep Tours

Could this vintage Jeep wine tour in Paso Robles be the most unique wine tour in California?! I dare you to find me something more unique! Sure, there’s the Napa Wine Train and wine trolley tours are popping up all over in other California wine regions, including Livermore , Lodi , Sonoma , and Napa . But if you’re looking for something even more quirky, you’ve got to check out this super fun pick: a one-of-a-kind wine tour in a bright orange vintage Jeep with Central Coast Jeep Tour Adventures (CCJTA) in Paso Robles!

We booked a Backroads Wine Tour with CCJTA for my friend’s bachelorette weekend and I can’t recommend them enough. Traveling in an adventurous style was perfect for our small group!

This post is a summary of all the stops we hit up on our wine tour in Paso Robles and what my thoughts were overall.

Wine Tour Notes

Choosing the wineries.

CCJTA chose the wineries for us from a list of those they partner with. However, there was a little bit of flexibility offered. Our driver, Justin, checked in with us at the outset of the tour to set the tone for the day and gauge where our interests lied. Since we were open to anything, we let him choose for us. I’m sure you can work with them to customize your itinerary if you have something specific in mind.

We were even offered the chance for a stop at Tin City after our tour, which is filled with other wineries, a brewery, cider house, and even a distillery! We ran a bit long at our last stop so we declined since it was already getting late in the day, but it was awesome to have that option.

Tasting Fees

Wine tasting fees aren’t 100% covered with CCJTA tours (this is pretty standard with most wine tours I’ve found recently). If you’re traveling with CCJTA, fees will likely be a combination of waived (no fee) or discounted (half off/two-for-one) . Keep in mind that most tasting fees are also waived with one to two-bottle purchases anyhow. Tasting fees average between $20 to $30 per person in Paso, so you can expect to pay around $15 or less for a tasting on this tour (unless you plan to purchase bottles at each stop to waive the fees).

Pickup/Drop Off

Central Coast picked us up at our vacation rental , and dropped us off right back at our door. So convenient not to have to worry about getting to a pickup location!

A picnic-style lunch is included in the Backroads Tour . We got to choose from a selection of delicious sandwiches, wraps, and salads, along with sides (for sandwiches/wraps). CCJTA will send you a menu to choose your meals from prior to arriving to Paso. Everything will be ready and waiting for you to eat during one of the winery stops! They will also supply you with bottles of cold water when you need to hydrate.

Wine Tour Tips

• Before you head out for the day, mix up a packet of Liquid IV with water to give yourself a hydration boost.
• Have a carb-filled breakfast! You never want to wine taste on an empty stomach. We had bagels and cream cheese.
• Bring a light jacket . Depending on the time of year, it can be cool in the mornings / evenings since Paso is close to the coast.
• Bring a hair tie! If you’re traveling outside of winter, the Jeep tour is open air which means your hair is going to whip around quite a bit.
• Take a non-drowsy Dramamine if you get car sick.
• Dress casually because riding in the back of a Jeep isn’t for the boujee.

Stop 1: Sculpterra Winery

Our first stop of the day was Sculpterra Winery, which is a super neat property filled with sculptures of animals throughout . Our wine host, Bruce, popped a bottle of bubbles to start us off with the tasting and even included sips of other wines they didn’t have on the tasting menu. I always appreciate the wineries that include some extras during the tasting experience. Generosity goes a long way with me when it comes to wine tasting – both for tips and encouraging bottle purchases!

I thought most of the wines at Sculpterra were really great. I particularly enjoyed the Viognier and Pinot Noir, which were not even included on that day’s standard tasting menu. Partnership with CCJTA and Sculpterra meant that our tasting fees here were waived. If you do visit on your own, tasting fees are $20 per person, which is pretty standard at most places.

After our tasting, we wandered around the indoor tasting room and the outdoor property for a bit to check out all the artwork. It was a sculpture safari!

Backroads Vineyard Tour

Before heading out to the next winery, Justin took us on a drive through the Sculpterra vineyards for some awesome views. This is definitely where that “backroads” part of the tour came into play – you’d probably never romp through the vineyards in a regular tour van or even driving around in your own vehicle!

Stop 2: Hunt Cellars & Lunch

Next up was Hunt Cellars , located in Southwest Paso Robles. At Hunt Cellars, they specialize in small batch wines, many of which were aged (like from 2012 – 2013). While the wines here weren’t my favorite of the trip, we all absolutely loved their 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Port – surprising for some of us who aren’t super keen on the sweet wines. It was really unique and we each bought a bottle to take home, which waived the $20 tasting fee!

Lunch was included in our tour, provided by Red Scooter Deli . Our food was pre-ordered with CCJTA before our tour, and Justin had everything at the ready whenever we felt like it was time for some sustenance. We thought wine stop two was the perfect time to eat up!

This was my second time eating from Red Scooter Deli and everything was tasty (highly recommend the Turkey Club Wrap and Pesto Pasta Salad).

Stop 3: HammerSky Vineyards

Our last stop of the tour was HammerSky Vineyards, which was by far the most scenic winery of the trip ! They also happened to have the best wine of the day . Unfortunately for us, the wine was also the most expensive. Such is life! But you can’t beat the views and our host Nathan was an absolute gem.

Tasting here is a steep $30 per person. However, with the CCJTA tour, we got two-for-one tastings and our fees were waived with the combination of bottles we ended up purchasing (its generally a three-bottle purchase to get one fee waived or two premium bottles).

The HammerSky property was previously owned by a Mennonite minister and farmer, and boasts a restored farmhouse which welcomes overnight guests. HammerSky also participates in Harvest Host if you’re interested in an RV stay on the property! One of these days when we get into RV life, I definitely want to take advantage of Harvest Host stays.

At the end of our tasting, we were invited inside to have a taste of their orange liqueur while we figured out which bottles to purchase. This was just as good as all of their wines! We also got to sample their sparkling rosé   which was fantastic (we were lucky they had a bottle open). It was the perfect ending to our time at HammerSky, and our wine tour in general!

Notes About Paso Wine

Not going to sugarcoat it – I find Paso wine to be more on the expensive side. As with my first trip to Paso , bottle price points hovered a bit higher than what I normally like to spend. That being said, I think splurging a little is okay for special occasion trips. Just be sure to budget around $40 to $50 a bottle on average!

All in all, we had a really great time with Central Coast Jeep Tour Adventures and I would definitely book with them again! If you’re looking for a fun and unique wine tour in Paso Robles (or California in general), you cannot go wrong with any of their tours.
