Ultimate Protection

A minimal amount of water ingested into a diesel engine is enough to cause an engine to fail. Safari Snorkels move the air intake to a higher position to give you the ability to navigate off road conditions that involve water and dust in the vehicle’s path. The Safari Air Ram simultaneously removes the maximum volume of water from the incoming air stream with its unique water separating technology, while efficiently flowing the maximum required airflow.

As well as water, dust can be equally as damaging to your 4x4’s engine. By raising the air intake to the roof level of the vehicle, a Safari Snorkel provides cleaner air to your engine that’s free from low lying dust in the vehicle’s path. The Process

The development process begins with every vehicle being 3D Laser Scanned utilizing Safari’s Romer Absolute 3D scanning arm. This creates an exact digital model of the vehicle with scanning system tollerances within 0.08mm ensuring all Safari Snorkels provide the best fit for your vehicle. Utilizing the latest in 3D modelling software, extensive design and engineering is carried out to ensure optimum airflow and aesthetics are achieved. The next step in the process is to 3D print prototypes of the main components of the Snorkel system for trial fitment and airflow analysis.

The Armax is usually reserved for power upgrade vehicles, Chip, Re-Map or Armax Performance ECU – although it’s not essential. The Armax is also decidedly bulkier, and can be a little less appealing for some.

Note: not all the Safari Snorkel model range is available for all vehicle applications.

The Benefits of A 4x4 Snorkel

If you’re wondering what a snorkel could do to improve your offroad experience, here are a handful of advantages to installing a high-quality 4WD snorkel.

Prevents dust from clogging the engine. Snorkels elevate the air intake, so the particle concentration is lower. Keeping your engine dust-free means the filter will stay cleaner and you’ll achieve more airflow.

Drive through waterways. Your snorkel’s elevated intake provides a barrier between the engine and the water, allowing your engine to function normally without water damage. • LLDPE plastic. This is the most common option, as it’s a strong, durable plastic that looks good on any vehicle.​
• PVC plastic.  This is a very low-budget option that’ll do the trick temporarily. However, the team at KBI Offroad wouldn’t recommend it.
• Stainless steel. These snorkels are the most expensive option, and they’re beloved for their superior durability and shiny appearance. However, prolonged offroad use tends to leave them scratched and marked, detracting from their aesthetic.
• Mild steel. This is an option for those wanting to use steel but not wanting to fork out for a stainless steel 4×4 snorkel fitting. Mild steel snorkels are prone to rust after a while, so they’ll need to be galvanised, which can make them look less attractive.

Snorkel heads

• Air ram head. This snorkel is designed to force heavier dust and water particles against the walls where they drop down and are expelled through the vents. Filtered air is ‘rammed’ down to the engine, cooling it and improving performance.​
• Vortex head. These snorkels use centrifugal force to push dirt and water out to the outer chambers and clean air down the body of the snorkel. Vortex heads are great for thick dust conditions.
• Mushroom head. Working much like the vortex head, the key difference is that the mushroom head expels dust immediately rather than trapping it. It’s also a better option for preventing water intake due to its more enclosed design.

Clever Design

Safari’s Air Ram system is a pivotal and functional attribute of the snorkel; CAD and lab tested, the Air Ram is designed to simultaneously remove the maximum volume of water from the incoming air stream, while delivering the maximum airflow to your vehicle’s engine. 

Durable Materials

Safari snorkels utilise a UV stable polyethylene body which ensures a strong and robust fitting to the outside of your 4×4, complemented by high-grade stainless steel and plated hardware for corrosion resistance on all internal and external fittings and fixtures. All Safari connection ducting is custom designed and tooled and is manufactured from EPDM moulded rubber, rated to a continual 130°C operating temperature. There is nothing better!
