Loved our time at Nkorho. Our guide, Matt, and tracker, David, were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The safari rides were incredible and we certainly saw everything we came to see. The entire staff works hard to ensure a great experience for their guests. Our suite was great, very clean and comfortable . The swing was cozy on the front deck! Enjoyed our meals and evenings in the bar. Thanks to all for a great time!

This was a great experience overall. The resort was nice and homely. Our ranger Kelsey and tracker Bennett were very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions that we had. The game drives were exciting and the search for the leopard was one of the highlights of the trip. The rooms were spacious, and the food was almost unending. The only downside, and understandably so, was the inability to move from one room to another, after dark. While our sons were older and able to stay on their own, families with slightly younger children may have to stay in one chalet. Strongly recommend it!!

We had a great overall experience at Mala Mala. We saw abundant animals and several exciting interactions between them. Our guide was knowledgeable and nice (the others in our group had a guide who had had incredible intuition for finding animals and we benefited from it). The rooms are nice, beautiful and comfortable. The food was good/okay... We were there for three nights and it seemed like there were a lot of repeats between the meals. The staff were all friendly and the customer service was great!

I don't usually write reviews however, I travelled to Lion Sands with my girlfriend in March 2017, it was her birthday and I was planning to propose. From the moment the booking was made until the last minute we left the location the service was impecable.

Our family just spend 3 days in the Cottage. The safaris were outstanding led by our intelligent and passionate guide Michael. We saw so much and learnt so much in the "Land That Time Forgot". Leopard with Waterbuck kill, wild dogs, Lion and Elephant swimming and wrestling in a dam and so much more!! The camp manager Gary was so welcoming and friendly. His enthusiasm for the bush is infectious. Thanks for a wonderful time in a special place. Also thanks for arranging a truly unique bat sighting!!!! Stayed May 2017, travelled with family

Fabulous three days at Idube Game Reserve. Lovely people. amazing food. So many highlights. But one stood out. When we surprised a rhino and it charged our Land Cruiser, leave it to our guide, Brogan, to take care of business. With a sharp, "OY!", the rhino stopped it charge, turn around and trotted back to its mate. Note that the wifi was only available in the office when we went, but it's due for an upgrade any date. Pro-tip: No cell coverage, but the office has a cell tower booster. Turn off your wifi, and your phone will pick up the cell booster if you have a local phone or international plan

It's hard to put into words what a wonderful place this is , even before you arrive the staff are extremely helpful with information and when you arrive they make you feel part of the lodge community not just a guest (truly welcoming).

The staff are genuinely interested in your adventure and happiness joining in stories and experiences of each game drive .Be prepared for the early starts 5.30 am game drive however believe me this is the best time of the day to see the animals and is a magical time to see the bush. The lodge and rooms are to a very high standard with all rooms having great views and the best bit being no fences !!!! YOU REALLY ARE IN THE BUSH 🙂 . This is without doubt a luxury Safari

We just came back from our first ever safari trip. We went not knowing what to expect. After our first game drive, we got to know why Sabi Sands Lodges are the best when it comes to big five game viewing. We managed to view all of the big five on one day.

The accommodation was perfect and the staff were exceptionally friendly. We are hooked, we will certainly visit Sabi Sabi again, very soon.

We absolutely loved this resort. The staff is so warm and welcoming, the rooms and public areas are beautifully and comfortably decorated, the food was delicious (I'm a San Francisco foodie pescetarian and absolutely loved the food/presentation), and the game drives were unforgettable. Don't miss the bush walk--we walked through a field of butterflies, saw all kinds of animal tracks, and enjoyed a different view of the landscape we'd been driving through all week. I would also highly recommend visiting the Thornybush Community Project gardens with Gavin, where some of the beautiful food served in Sabi Sand resorts is grown by local women as part of a community collective. We also visited a school, which had an incredible impact on us. I loved Simbambili--a little piece of my heart is still there

A wonderful visit that was nothing short of perfect. Amazing game sightings, the best I've had (and it is always good), our Ranger and Tracker were great fun and very knowledgable, the staff were on the ball and the atmosphere and mood relaxed and attentive. My 6th visit, and great that Ulusaba is back to its best, thank you!

Highly recommended. Amazing in many ways. Great safari experience. Unsurpassed food. Kind staff. Two safaris a day for three days.

Night time star gazing by the fire. Trip to the village. Great amenities. Boma, Observation points. Nice little library. The staff will walk you to your cabin at night. Our first time here was 2006 but this is the place to come for the best safari lodge experience. This is the place to come back to.

My daughter and I spent 3 nights at Notten's in April 2017 and we loved everything about it! We loved the fact that we were teamed up with the same driver/tracker/four other guests in the same car over the course of all the days - we had such fun together and really got involved in trying to spot the animals. And we were rewarded with multiple leopard sightings and the other big 5, as well as all the other beautiful animals - zebra, giraffes, kudu, impala etc - and many birds. The rooms - including outdoor shower, dining area, food, pool, gift shop, massage, the lovely candle light (and lack of electric lighting) and special sundowner by the river were all fabulous. We felt so relaxed and welcomed. The staff were professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. They went the extra mile to engage with my 9 year old daughter. This place suited us perfectly. It was top class without being pretentious. Worth every penny - and actually better value than some other lodges. Recommended without hesitation. We hope to return one day. Thank you to all - Dale, Suzie, Gift, Desmond, Tulani, Riddent, Joe and everyone else (sorry if names are miss-spelt).

After spending 2 nights at the Dulini River Lodge we spent 2 nights at the Dulini Lodge. Even though both Lodges are in the same Reserve and very close they offer a different athmosphere. The Dulini Lodge gives you a stronger "Africa feeling" in terms of decoration and setup in my view.

The bungalows are very spacious and well equipped. The welcome is kind and warm and the staff is amazing. They provided me with a special birthday dinner which made the stay even more memorable.

The game drives with the Ranger Fred and our tracker May where an experience. We saw a lot and as haveing been on Safari before we received so much more indepth information since we did not have to worry about seeing all the big 5 (which we saw anyway).

Will try to be back whenever possible

Everything wonderful, just come back from part of Titan Tour. We saw the big five and so much more. Couldn't fault it and would love to go back. You have to be there to believe how good it is, and how close you get to what is after all wild animals. I could have almost touched one of the lions we saw!!

This was a perfect place for a safari. We stayed in one of the two suites, and this was perfect.

This was a perfect place for a safari. We stayed in one of the two suites, and this was perfect. The game drives were so exiting. Of 8 game drives we saw leopards at 7 of them. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was nice. The skills of the tracker and ranger was fantastic. It was so nice to follow how they read the tracks in the sand and bushes. We saw the big 5 and a lot more. If would go back? YES

If you are planning a trip to S.A. And want to spend time in the bush, then Sabi Sands is a must. Activities at Savanna Game Reserve

Game Drives:

Land Rovers have been specially modified for guests' comfort and safety with bucket seats separated by large storage boxes. In order to maximise photographic opportunities, there are never more than two people in a row unless guests request otherwise. The vehicles are set up to seat seven but can easily be adapted to seat 10 guests if required. In addition, there are never more than two vehicles at a sighting, except with very relaxed animals in open terrain, in which case three vehicles are allowed.

The afternoon game drive includes a stop for sundowners while marveling at the splendor of an African sunset, and the absolute tranquility of the bush. On the morning drive there is a tea/coffee stop with the famous Savanna Amarula hot chocolate or coffee a highly recommended alternative for the more adventurous at heart.

Savanna game reserve images SSL 30

Bush Walks:

Optional game walks are offered to guests who would like to experience the fauna and flora on foot. Led by an armed ranger and tracker, they provide fascinating insight into the geology and botany of the area. Trackers who have grown up in local villages impart a wealth of information on the uses of bushveld trees and plants in tribal customs and rituals, as well as their herbal and medicinal properties and practical applications. A peeled twig from one tree, for instance, makes a good toothbrush while the silky leaves of another provide the softest toilet paper.

Walks generally take place in the area around Savanna Lodge in between game drives and meals but if guests prefer, a longer walk can replace a drive or be incorporated as part of a drive. The thrill of quietly approaching game while on foot, of close encounters with the smaller creatures and the myriads of wild flowers and beautiful butterflies they attract in summer, brings an added dimension to the magic of an African safari.

Children Activities at Savanna Game Reserve

Children of all ages are welcome with their families when booking the Savanna Suite, however no children under the age of 8 years will be permitted at the main lodge. Each day there are two game drives, early morning and late afternoon. These game drives are broken up with a drink and snack break. During the middle of the day, there are various activities for the children.

A children’s menu is available on request with all the foods that bushbabies enjoy, if your child has any special needs, please be sure to advise us in advance. Each child receives a goodies bush bag with items to add to their safari experience. All items collected from the activities during your child’s stay will be put together in a scrapbook, showing all the items they learned about and have collected.

As the children enjoy different activities and are of varying ages, a daily programme will be put together according to their interests.

An exclusive property, Savanna Lodge offers a personalised, and intimate African safari experience with a unique style of tented accommodation.

Seven of its 9 elegant suites have Bedouin-style draped ceilings below tented roofs, set on permanent structures for privacy, security, and comfort. The thatched Savanna Suite, meanwhile, consists of two separate en suite bedrooms, each with its own deck and plunge pool.

The unique architecture reflects Savanna Lodge’s bushveld setting. Set on the western edge of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, it lies in an area where sightings of Africa’s Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and even the elusive leopard – are relatively common. The lodge provides specially designed safari game drive vehicles and highly trained field guides, who draw on their experience and expertise to give guests the best chance of a close and intimate encounter with a large variety of wildlife. Guided bush walks and Family Safaris are also available.

The lodge also prides itself on its dining experiences, where traditional African dishes add spice to the best international fare. Candle-lit dinners are served on the deck of the main lodge, while traditional African-style barbecues (bush braais) are enjoyed under the stars round the fire in an open-air boma or a candle-lit clearing in the bush.

You’ll also feel the pulse of the continent beneath your feet on nature walks with your guide, a chance to discover the Sabi’s smaller details.

Savanna Lodge prides itself on being a little different. In this respect, guests are also able to organise excursions to nearby places of interest including a cultural Shangaan village, elephant sanctuary (where you can enjoy elephant-back safaris) and even golf courses at nearby Skukuza or world-famous Leopard Creek. Hot-air balloon safaris can also be arranged on request.

They provide us the most taylored and customized honeymoon possible! everything was much better than we expected. We loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere and everyone made us feeling so incredibly special and gave us a unique insight. Over our game drives we managed to see all the big five plus some!!

In June/July 2016 we undertook a trip to Southern Africa to fulfill a lifelong intention. We stayed at six camps, safari style, and had a great time. All of our expectations were met or even exceeded. For example, we never expected to see honey badgers or sitatunga, given the secretive nature of those species, but we did! All travel arrangements and connections worked smoothly, which is astonishing since we had several dozen transfers and meeting points; all of the connecting personnel were prompt, professional, and welcoming.

The care by Walter was great from planning to leaving Johannesburg. The accommodations were perfectly chosen. If after a few days you thought it could not be better, you were told otherwise. It was an increase every day, with the 3 days safari in the Kruger, including overnight in tree house, the grand finale. I would book a trip anytime again at Safari Online.

Our extended family (16 travellers, including 8 children under ten years of age!) went on a wonderful safari adventure curated and organised by Walter Kohrs of Safari Online. It could not have been any better than we experienced. From our time in Cape Town, to visiting Victoria Falls, all the way through Zimbabwe and finally wrapping up at the amazing Chobe Safari Lodge, all the locations chosen by Walter were amazing.

His attention to detail, willingness to fine-tune and excellent responsiveness (over a period of several months!) could not have been better. He took time to visit us personally upon our arrival in South Africa, with lovely gift-packs and shared a wealth of advice, recommendations and tips. I cannot recommend Safari Online (and Walter Kohrs in particular) any higher. Absolutely amazing.

We have booked at the Elephant Plains Lodge. We stayed there for a few nights and went on safaris. The lodge, the guide, the food and all the animals we have seen were fantastic. Really an outstanding experience. We can recommend Elephant Plains to everybody. Maybe you will not be as lucky as we were, becaucse we have seen the Big 5! But however you will not forget your stay at Elephant Plains.

Our experience with Safari Online was excellent. After becoming very frustrated trying to search for a safari destination on our own, we turned to Karina for help and she was a lifesaver. She responded to our requests promptly and gave us several options with links to each option; we ultimately chose Lukimbi. She then coordinated our flights to and from the property, arranged the drivers necessary to get us from the airport to the lodge and back again, and sent the appropriate paperwork to each of us to verify each step of the process. We had an amazing safari adventure at the lodge–the experience of a lifetime–and are so grateful for her help. We literally couldn’t have done it without her!

Attention to detail & service provided was first class, from our very first email to the last day of our trip. Walter went above and beyond to ensure that we were notified of any changes, even up to our last day with a change to our flight time, at short notice. The safari was so much more than expected, from the rustic to the exceptional, every camp was different in it’s own way and our highlights are hard to single out just one as each camp was great.

The communications and service from Walter was excellent, and we were continuously fully informed. The information package and book received on arrival were excellent. We felt that we had been allocated carefully selected lodges at each camp and every detail met or exceeded our expectations. The safari tour was wonderful, and a particular feature was the variety offered at each location which combined perfectly

I was already last year in South Africa and Zambia organized by Safari Online. It was a absolutely gorgeous trip. Everything was perfect. This was the reason I booked this year in May and June an new trip to South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. I got everything I expected. It was a dream again. I know I´m coming back.

Though we live in Australia, Safari online made planning for our family holiday so easy. Walter understood our requirements and nothing was too much trouble. The holiday was everything we wanted it to be and so much more. Every camp was ideally suited for our family and we loved each day, every early morning and evening game drive. Thank you to Walter for his attention to detail and his friendly, professional and caring manner. It was a trip of a lifetime and one that we will talk about forever.

A little bit about Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Spanning 65,000 hectares, the Sabi Sands Nature Reserve is a testament to the vision of local landowners in the 1950s. It stands proudly adjacent to the globally acclaimed Kruger National Park, forming a vast wilderness teeming with wildlife.

The legacy of these founding families, now in their third and fourth generations of stewardship, resonates in the successful conservation of South Africa's richest density of big game. A unique feature of Sabi Sands is its 50-kilometer unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, creating a harmonious coexistence that allows wildlife to roam freely. This has led to remarkably close encounters with the local fauna, including prolific sightings of the elusive leopard. The dynamic landscape is further enriched by the Sabi and Sand Rivers, weaving their way through the reserve, enhancing the rich biodiversity of this extraordinary habitat.

Trip Report: South Africa Safari at Savanna Lodge in Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve

Brian Kelly

This is the eleventh post of my South Africa Series. Follow along to read my reviews on several different aspects of my trip. Other posts in this series include: Come Along With Me To South Africa!; Flight Review: South African Airways Business Class JFK-JNB; Hotel Review: Westin Cape Town ; Trip Report: Watching African Penguins at Boulders Beach and the Cape of Good Hope; Cape Town Dining ; Hotel Review: Hilton Cape Town ; 10 Things I Love About South Africa; Hotel Review: 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa Luxury Room; Trekking Up Table Mountain In Cape Town; Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Johannesburg ; Safari Highlights at Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa ; Safari Highlights at Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa .

Finally, after all our city fun in Cape Town and Johannesburg, it was time to head to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve for what I considered to be the highlight of our trip to South Africa: safari.

The main lodge patio at Savanna.

Although I consider myself a seasoned traveler, we had no idea where to begin researching safari lodges, especially since there are so many in South Africa in particular, and that range from super-budget DIY experiences to some of the most high-end, expensive accommodations in the world. Also because time was so short and we were planning just a couple of weeks in advance, we needed someone with the inside knowledge who could point us in the right direction and be able to make a booking for us as soon as possible, so once again we turned to our friend Michelle at Azurine Travel to help us make a reservation.

As I said, you can go anywhere from super budget campsites to ultra-luxe glamping lodges, but as travelers on the younger side we decided that somewhere middle-of-the-road would probably suit us just fine – some touches of luxury and expert game drives, but no need for butlers, thank you very much!

Michelle suggested a little place called Savanna Lodge in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve along the western edge of Kruger that's known for its leopards (the rarest Big 5 sighting) and is particularly game-rich.

To get there, we had a choice of either taking a sort of charter flight for $600 per person to a nearby airstrip or catching a South African Airways flight to the Nelspruit Airport (MQP) for $200 per person and then getting a roundtrip transfer for $200 from there, so we opted for that to keep costs low.

We took an SAA Link flight to Nelspruit.

While not ultra-high-end, Savanna Lodge is a gorgeous little property with eight luxury tent-cabins that accommodate only up to 18 guests total for an intimate experience. The lodge also includes a main building where guests take all meals and can just hang out and have drinks or read a book, a curio shop for souvenirs, and a small main pool that anyone can use.

Because it was high season, rates were fairly expensive at 5,390 ZAR ($630) per person per night. Eric and I were going to share a Luxury Suite, which is their base-level accommodation. That's fairly standard, and the reason it's so expensive is that everything is included – three meals a day, all drinks, minibar, twice-daily maid service, laundry service, two four-hour game drives a day, visits to a local school and more. So for our three-day stay, we were looking at nearly $3,800 for two people. Definitely a splurge, but our only one of the trip of that magnitude, and we didn't want to skimp on what was going to be the banner experience of the whole journey since we had heard it was a great place to spot game and it would have been extremely frustrating to have traveled so far without getting to see anything.

The bedroom area in a standard luxury tent.

The thing is, we had done so well at using points and saving money on the rest of the itinerary that a few days before we were scheduled to arrive, we asked Michelle to contact the lodge and see how much it would be to room separately if there were space available. Sure enough, the lodge wasn't sold out and they decided to extend us a special deal where they would give us another suite and waive the single-person supplement on both. Not only that, but the second suite would actually be a larger Executive Suite with its own plunge pool for the last 2 nights that would normally go for $1,240 per night for a single occupant. And they gave us the additional room for a total extra cost of of $378 for all three nights! Now you know why my mantra is "it never hurts to ask."

All the minibar items were included.

The Schedule

When we arrived at the lodge around noon after a bumpy two-hour drive from the airport, we were welcomed at the gate, handed glasses of champagne and given a quick tour of the property as well as the daily schedule of events, which goes roughly follows depending on how long the game drives last:

5:00am Wake up

5:30am Coffee and game drive

9:30am Back for breakfast

10:00am Rest time

3:00pm Lunch

4:00pm Game drive

8:00pm Return from game drive

9:00pm Dinner

Although we'd gotten in a bit early, our two Luxury Suites were ready and we had plenty of time to unpack and relax before lunch and the first game drive.

We went out on two drives a day in this Land Rover.

The Luxury Suites were beautiful, basically like a glamping version of your traditional safari tent. They're permanent structures but with canvas roofs and solid walls with screened windows that open. Each has a little front patio with lounge chairs and an expanse of lawn looking out onto the savanna.

Another shot of the main room of a luxury tent.

Inside, there is a king bed (which can be made into two twins, as we had planned to do) with two nightstands, an overstuffed armchair, a small writing desk, and a minibar stocked with snacks, cookies, beer, wine, liquor, soda and water.

The bathrooms had freestanding tubs and separate showers.

Behind the bedroom area is the bathroom with two sinks, a freestanding deep-soaking tub that the staff drew a bath in every night to warm up in after safari, a walk-in shower and a water closet with the toilet. The lodge stocked high-end South African bath products.

I loved the outdoor shower behind my suite.

The doors at the back of the bathroom opened onto a private walled patio with an outdoor shower which was perfect to use in sunny weather.

The suites were air conditioned and had fans as well as WiFi access (though this was rather spotty and slow at times), as well as handy extras like power adapters, mosquito spray, flashlights and hair dryers – not exactly roughing it!

When I moved into my Executive Suite for the final two nights, it was at the very end of the property, so it felt secluded and private and had all the same amenities, only it was about one-and-a-half times the size with a wooden roof (vs canvas), huge bathroom, mosquito net around the bed and a larger front patio with its own small pool.

Not exactly roughing it

As I mentioned, everything was included in the stay, from the minibar and laundry service to all our meals, which were like a summer camp experience where you ate with the people in your game drive vehicle and your guide.

Breakfast was usually a simple affair with a spread of cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit and pastries plus eggs any way you wanted from the kitchen (though I recommend their morning breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs, tomato, onion, mushroom and cheese).

A typical lunch spread at Savanna.

Lunch was also a buffet-style spread usually with some hot dish like filet of sole or a chicken curry stew as well as green salads, pasta salad and some light pastries and cookies for dessert.

Dinner was a bit more formal (though dress was always smart casual) with folks gathering in the parlor/bar area about an hour after returning from the evening drive and having a drink or cocktail before sitting at the communal table and being served a three-course menu with a starter like asparagus with prosciutto and poached egg, mains like grilled rack of lamb with polenta or poached salmon with pasta, and desserts like crème brulee or cheese cake.

Lodge night

It was hard to believe that after three full meals plus snacks in the morning and evening out on the game drives that you'd have any room left for these full meals, but you do – all that fresh air works up an appetite.

I really enjoyed all the food- it was fresh, freshly prepared and made to order, and was sort of like luxury home-style cooking that I really appreciated.

The dinner table was a welcoming sight!

Suggestions

As I mentioned, we had booked a stay for three nights, and though initially I thought that might not be enough, by the end I thought it was the perfect amount of time and seems to be the safari standard – at least for staying at one lodge.

We had six four-hour game drives (more on those tomorrow), plenty of time exploring the lodge and a visit to the surrounding community, and got to talk to all our fellow guests, and by the end of our three days it was time to move on. I might consider doing a safari at the beginning of a trip and then another at the end of the trip to explore a different area of the country and try a different lodge, but for our single experience, it was perfect.

Stay tuned tomorrow for what a typical day looked like and some great videos and photos we took of the animals we came across, including a few of these to whet your appetite, and then a post later this week on the orphanage project Savanna Lodge sponsors in the nearby town. • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sun hat, sunglasses & sunblock
  • Cameras & binoculars
  • Anti-malaria precautions (please consult your doctor/pharmacist)
  • Light, neutral colour clothing & swimming costume
  • Warm clothing is essential in Winter (i.e. May to September)

Our closest gate entry is Newington Gate. You need to pay R310 per vehicle entrance fee (incl driver), plus R140 per person (valid until 31 Dec 2021). Keep the slips, as you will need them on departure. *Gate entry fees are subject to changes implemented by the Sabi Sand Wildtuin.

Our closest landing strip is the Ulusaba airstrip which is used by lodges in the Western sector; we offer a complimentary transfer service to and from the lodge. Federal Air has daily scheduled flights to and from Johannesburg into this airstrip. Airlink fly into Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (KMIA) as well as Skukuza (SKZ) from various domestic and regional destinations. Clients flying into either of these airports would need to self-drive or book a road transfer to get to the lodge. Alternatively, Airlink also provides Lodge Hop flights from SKZ and KMIA to Ulusaba (ULX). *Please note that all passenger taxes, aircraft landing fees and other airport taxes are excluded from our rates and are set and changed by Ulusaba.

Road transfer companies normally include the SSW Gate entry fees in their quotes- but it is your responsibility to check that it is included if you are booking these transfers.

For all guests flying into/out of the Ulusaba Airstrip (on any airline) there is an R325 per person Ulusaba passenger tax (valid for 2021), that needs to be quoted to the client over and above the flight costs. These fees will be added in your accommodation invoice once you have notified us of the flight details.

For Private Charters making use of the Ulusaba airstrip, a landing fee and an overnight fee will apply. This is charged by the charter companies directly, and these fees are generally in excess to the actual cost of the flight quoted by the charter company. It is your responsibility to check if they have been included or not.

Please ensure that you have taken out comprehensive travel insurance that will cover cancellation fees should you have to cancel your trip in any event.

As malaria is present in the Mpumalanga region where the lodge is situated, it is essential to ensure that anti-malaria precautions be taken throughout the year. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist. Further information can be obtained from the Kruger National Park Malaria Hotline on +27 (0) 822341800 or +27 (0) 822341800.

Relaxing in the comfort of the public lounge with its spacious patio, or at the main pool looking out over lush gardens and floodlit waterhole, our guests are frequently treated to fantastic views of birds and game drinking and bathing.

The loft above the lounge makes a pleasant nook for a quiet game of chess as well as a bird’s eye view of the waterhole, while an adjoining library provides wireless broadband internet access and offers guests the means to transfer digital photographs, freshly captured on their safari, onto CD or DVD.

Work up a sweat in our fully-equipped gym with the bush right at your doorstep, or enjoy an exquisite massage treatment in the privacy of your suite.

Relaxation between game drives is important. What better way to unwind than with an invigorating massage? Savanna’s own qualified therapist offers guests a range of treatments in the privacy of their suites. And, if a little retail therapy is called for, a visit to the curio and gift shop should do the trick.

Enjoy an experience that is just a little different.

Savanna is a cost-effective option in the Sabi Sands and we are impressed by the game experience as well as the professional rangers.

Exellent and wonderful, reaching way above expectations.

Julia you did a fantastic job - everything was first class. Well organised, efficient and stress free. We all agreed it was the best holiday we've ever had. Cant wait to travel with CSC again.

We are so happy we put our trust in CSC, we had an amazing adventure and would recommend them to anyone.

The trip exceeded my expectations and was the best family holiday I have ever had. Our children simply loved it and now I know more about African wildlife than they do about our own farm animals.

Classic Safari are the people who genuinely know other culture and offer incredible insight to perfectly meet your expectations.

We loved it all. Our son wants to go back tomorrow. We would ALL go back again!

An amazing experience - the best family holiday we have ever had. We were extremely impressed by the meticulous attention to our itinerary. I can't speak highly enough of all the elements of this exciting journey!

Thank you for making our trip to Africa so spectacular. The attention to detail really made it special. It really was the trip of a lifetime.

Very knowledgeable and patient. Our trip was all that we hoped for. Wonderful!

Everything was perfect! Advice and information on destinations and activities hit everything I had hoped to experience. I contacted the Classic Safari Company upon recommendation and have now, in turn, recommended to others.

You can't improve on perfection. I had my best birthday and holiday with my family celebrating my 80th birthday in Africa. Everything that Julia organised was perfect and the whole trip was a highlight!

The trip of a lifetime, couldn't have dreamt of a better adventure if I tried.

Absolutely everything was first class & so well organised.

Classic Safari Company has done it again! A unique experience that ticked all the boxes - wildlife, culture and dining experience. A dream come true!

Their experience and knowledge of Africa is evident and we couldn't have been happier with the total package. This has given us a taste for Africa - now we are ready for more.

If you want the most sensational experience in Africa let Julia and the staff at Classic Safari Co plan it for you! Their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for their job means your every wish will be fulfilled.

Classic Safari is the place to go to for "top end" adventure travel.

Classic Safari Company were brilliant - 10/10

The Classic Safari Company is the best I have dealt with. Extremely knowledgeable & professional, friendly, patient & understanding of first timers to Africa.

It certainly was the best trip we have EVER had. The experiences were mind blowing.  We want everyone we know to experience Africa - the animals, the people - magical.

Would do it all again and not change a moment. Best holiday ever!

An absolutely fantastic travel company - every one of the many trips they have organised for us over 22 years have been faultless and fabulous.

We are looking at traveling to Kruger in August. There has been an abundance of options and information we have gone through and decided instead of a 5-7 night at one place we are going to look at splitting 3 nights and then 4 nights if possible. I've narrowed the choices but am still all over the place with the options.

We are in our 40's interested in a nice experience at the lodge while really seeing an array of wildlife but not fixated on one animal - nice to see cats, giraffe, elephants, etc =) . Based on the dates and lodging available we are narrowing to a long list of

Imbali Safari Lodge

Jock Safari Lodge e

Kruger Shalati

Arethusa ( only has 2 nights back/back)

Mala Mala Camp

Klasserie Drift

Camp George

Nkhoro Bush

Savanna Game lodge

Last word Kitara

thorny Bush Game lodge

I am too sorry its a long list. Would like a pool to spend time between, cocktails in the evening and a Boma dinner or yoga if available. Any opinions on better choices would be appreciated. We know its not far off and want to make a decision to reserve.

We are flying into Johanasburg and depending on the selection will fly or drive there departing to a couple extra days in Cape Town hopefully making it to the wineries.

Appreciate any input . Thank you kindly

I asked my very experienced South African tour operator what was the best lodge for game viewing in the greater Kruger and he said emphatically "Mala Mala." It has the largest traverse area and river exposure in the Sabi Sands area. Of course the Mala Mala lodges are expensive and perhaps not as luxurious as some of the other high-end lodges but for game viewing hard to beat. You could pair Mala Mala with a smaller, more intimate camp to get a range of experiences.

The mala mala camp within our budget has very limited avaliability on days with us so close to August =( not sure we can pair it with the others we have looked.

It seems like we are looking at

Kitara last word

Then Jock Safari

Or Klasserie Drift

Then Shalati

Siviti seems to have more flexibility to plug in if that’s a better option. Has anyone had experience with those lodges? Is 3 nights and 4 nights too little for the drive between?Any advise is appreciated
