Def Leppard and Journey Unite for Massive U.S. Stadium Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Journey and Def Leppard are teaming up for a massive U.S. summer stadium tour, and they’re bringing Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, and Heart with them at various spots along the way. Expect a night of mega Eighties hits like “Don’t Stop Believin,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Faithfully,” “Photograph” and (depending on where you live) “The Flame,” “Abracadabra,” and “These Dreams.”

“Having just completed a sensational 18 month run promoting our Diamond Star Halos album,” Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott said in a statement, “we shall hit the boards running with a brand-new stage show and set of songs that will celebrate specific parts of our history. We may even have a surprise or two up our sleeves … so, wanna join us !??! … See you in the summer !”

Journey guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain have spent the past year battling each other in the court system and the press, but it somehow hasn’t slowed down the band’s touring machine. They crisscrossed the country with Toto last year, and they’re playing arenas together again in the early months of 2024.

ABOUT DEF LEPPARD

With more than 110 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards in the U.S., 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame® inductees Def Leppard - Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) — continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career the band has produced a series of classic ground-breaking albums that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows and arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as the world’s greatest live rock band. Def Leppard’s influential career includes numerous hit singles and ground-breaking multi-platinum albums—including two of the best-selling albums of all time, Pyromania and Hysteria, capturing the group’s legendary tracks, bringing together classic Leppard hits such as “Rock of Ages”, Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Foolin.”  For the first time, in January 2018 Def Leppard debuted their full recording catalog worldwide via streaming and download platforms. As they did with the original release of their records, Def Leppard dominated the worldwide charts again, which found their albums charting in the iTunes Top 10 in more than 30 countries, including Hysteria at #3 in the US, and #5 in the UK (36 years after the album had charted at No 1 in the Billboard charts).  Def Leppard also had the #1, #2 and #3 records on the US catalog albums chart. The band have gone on to amass a staggering 5.5 billion streams since 2018, reaching a younger 18-44 demographic that now represents 58% of their fanbase. Additionally, the band have garnered an impressive 15 million followers across their social media platforms. In May 2022, Def Leppard released their twelfth studio album Diamond Star Halos. The album debuted at #1 on the Apple and Amazon Music charts. The album also scored a Top 10 debut on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, marking the band’s eighth Top 10 album of their career, and garnered a #1 debut on Billboard’s Hard Rock chart. Diamond Star Halos had numerous Top 10 chart entries globally including a Top 5 debut in the UK. This has been followed by their 13 th studio album “Drastic Symphonies” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023. The album charted at no 4 in the UK album charts – their highest UK chart entry in over 32 years. Following the close of their historic 2018 co-headline stadium and arena run in North America, Def Leppard sold more than 1,000,000 tickets, a massive feat in today’s touring world. Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe topped that number yet again with another sold out North American stadium run in 2022 selling over 1.3 million tickets. As always, the group continues pushing the boundaries with their electrifying live shows.

ABOUT STEVE MILLER

Steve Miller has been a monumental presence on the American music scene for more than half a century. Miller’s Greatest Hits 1974-78 received the RIAA Diamond Award with sales of more than 15 million copies. It is among the 25 best-selling albums of all time. At the start of his career, Miller became a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late 1960s. Beginning in the 1970s, Miller crafted a brand of pure pop that was polished, exciting, and irresistible — and that dominated radio in a way few artists have ever managed. Hit followed hit in what seemed like an endless flow: “The Joker,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Rock’n Me,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner,” and “Abracadabra,” among them. In recent years, Miller has fully immersed himself in the blues and its many byways. At the request of Wynton Marsalis, he is defining a blues pedagogy for Jazz at Lincoln Center where he has curated and headlined shows that explore the history of American music and the profound connections between the blues and jazz. He is also a member of the visiting committee of the Department of Musical Instruments at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This past September, the 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee released J50: The Evolution of The Joker to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of multi-million seller, iconic album, and single “The Joker.” With each listen the beauty and immediacy of his work, at its most playful or most serious, is palpable. Whether he was riding the top of the charts or traveling the endless blue highways of American music, one can hear him playing and singing with conviction and precision, passion, and eloquence, and making music that is at once immediately accessible, thrillingly alive in the present, and more than able to stand the test of time.

Yesterday evening (December 7), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees took to social media to announce their “Summer Stadium Tour 2024”, which will see the bands perform in 23 different cities, beginning with Saint Louis’ Busch Stadium on July 6, continuing through cities including Atlanta, Detroit, Nashville and Pittsburgh, before concluding on September 8 at Denver’s Coors Field.

In addition to the double bill, the bands have announced support from Heart , Cheap Trick and Steve Miller Band, who will each appear in different dates across the tour. A full list of tour dates for the “Summer Stadium Tour”, along with information about their respective openers, can be found below.

Members of Def Leppard’s fan club, Rock Brigade Concert Club, will have exclusive access to presale tickets and VIP packages on Tuesday, December 12 at 10AM CST, through the club’s official website .

On the other hand, fans who are not members of the club can also access presale tickets by registering through the tour’s official website , which will also be made available on December 12 at 10AM CST. General ticket sales will go live on Friday, December 15.

The “Summer Stadium Tour 2024” follows Def Leppard’s lengthy co-headlining world tour with Mötley Crüe , which took place between February and August this year. In the middle of the tour, Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen was assaulted outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida . While taking a smoke, the assailant ambushed him from behind a nearby pillar, tackling him to the ground and injuring his head. 19-year-old Max Edward Hartley was arrested after the incident.

A month later, Allen provided an update via Instagram about his health following the incident. “Thank you all so very much for all of your love and support over the last month,” he wrote. “I am still recovering and getting my mind and body ready for the upcoming Def Leppard tour. Just wanted to say hi and let you know, There Will Be Rock!”

Meanwhile, Journey members Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have been feuding after suing their former band mates, Ross Valory and Steve Smith. Their relationship has been soured by various factors, including Cain’s decision to play at Donald Trump’s infamous resort, Mar-A-Lago, prompting Schon to file a cease-and-desist against him.

The pair have even reportedly hired off-duty police officers to guard their respective dressing rooms during their last tour , after Schon and his wife allegedly sent an assailant into Cain’s dressing room, which he successfully caught.

Some things, however, just never seem to change: You can expect the Ty Segalls and King Gizzards of the world to feature on these roundups till kingdom come, with reliable indie-rock staples like Destroyer, Wednesday, and Alvvays still out in force fighting for the cause, too.

After a residency that has spanned the best part of a year and brought hundreds of thousands of Adele fans to Las Vegas, the Tottenham superstar is closing the run with dates from January through June. “This residency, these shows have changed my life. I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have,” she said in the announcement. “It’s just made me realize how much I really enjoy being on stage, that I’m bloody good at it and that it is 100% where I belong! So let’s go one last time before I turn into a showgirl forever!” –Jazz Monroe

Among the artists touring stadiums in 2022: the Weeknd, Coldplay, Daddy Yankee, Billy Joel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard & Mötley Crüe, Dua Lipa, Zac Brown, Eagles, Daddy Yankee, Iron Maiden, Blackpink, Morgan Wallen, the Lumineers, Dead & Co., Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga and countless others.

John’s 65-date “ Farewell Yellow Brick Road ” sits at No. 2 after first hitting the road more than four years ago and will continue raking in the gold as it finally wraps next summer. Because of its length and popularity, its likely the John tour will pit the English icon against another U.K. favorite — Ed Sheeran , who currently claims the highest gross ever for a single tour with his “Divide” trek that reached $776 million when it closed in 2019.

Sheeran once again hit the road this year in support of his previous records on the “Mathematics” tour, a European stadium trek, that earned $251 million gross this year and enters Pollstar’s chart at No. 3. Sheeran is also the only concert performer to hit the 3 million mark in sold tickets with 3,047,694 sold over 63 shows in 28 venues throughout the year for a massive average of 48,376 tickets sold per show.

Harry Styles’ “ Love on Tour ” sits at No. 4 in the Top 100 based on its box office glory that kicked off in September of last year with a string of North American arena dates. Stadiums followed in 2022 with the singer’s rescheduled 23-show European run that kicked off in June. He performed in 15 countries through the end of July, selling more than 638,000 tickets.

And who could forget the singer’s mini residencies — most notably, the historic string of 15 nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden. That run logged a total of 276,852 tickets sold and rang in a $63 million gross – the highest gross of the year for a single venue worldwide, according to Pollstar. Styles had another 12-night run at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum where he left with $38 million in sales from over 200,000 tickets sold.

The historic feats continue as this becomes the first year that each tour in the top 10 grossed over $100 million and the top five each took in more than $200 million — with inflation playing a factor. Rise in ticket prices placed the Top 100 Worldwide ticket sales in 2022 at 59.2 million, surpassing 2019’s total of 57.7 million tickets. On Pollstar’s North American Top 200 chart, ticket prices increased 19% from $87.19 in 2019 to cross the three-figure barrier of $103.71 in 2022.

And as 2022 comes to a close, it’s clear 2023 will ring in another big year for the live music industry. Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” has already managed to break the internet with an unprecedented, and drama-filled, record turnout for presales on Ticketmaster, and hints of a possible stadium/arena trek from Beyoncé has fans ready to drop thousands for a ticket. Not to mention the several confirmed tours of stars who have already made 2022 a standout year like Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Harry Styles, Dead & Co. (the band’s final trek), the Weeknd, Def Leppard/Mötley Crüe, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks, among others.

The Stadium Tour – Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis Indiana

August 16, 2022

The long-awaited and uber-popular Stadium Tour made a stop at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis this past Tuesday. While this was one of the more recent additions to the tour, tens of thousands of eager fans packed the stands. Averaging close to forty thousand tickets sold per stop, this is one of the most popular tours this year. Eager fans were treated not only to Def Leppard and Motley Crue, but also to special guests Poison, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and newcomers Classless Act.

There were still long lines outside when the opener Classless Act hit the stage at 4pm, a mere half hour after doors opened. While they were not originally on the tour 2 ½ years ago when this tour began, they were added by members of Motley Crue. They did an amazing job warming up the eager concert goers that were finding their seats. With vocals that sound like a wild-child of Robert Plant and Axl Rose and a dual guitar setup that would make most 80’s bands jealous, Classless Act delivered quite the show in their 5 song set.

Joan Jett Live at Lucas Oil Stadium

Up next was the legendary Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Joan has been a staple in the music industry since her work with The Runaways in the mid to late 1970’s. Her guitar playing and vocals have stood the test of time. Joan also earned her stripes by fronting the uber-successful Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Keyboard player and original member Kenny Laguna helped culture the crowd by sharing the band’s origins. Since they are a female-fronted band, they struggled to get a record deal and had to sell records out of the back of their car. However, their hard work paid off and they became one of the most legendary bands of all time. As if rock anthems such as “ I Hate Myself for Loving You ” and “ I Love Rock n Roll ” weren’t enough, Joan played Runaways songs such as “ Cherry Bomb ” and even material off of her new album Changeup , which was just released a few months ago. Joan and company truly put on a great show, however, that was just the beginning.

Next onstage was the 80’s glam powerhouse, Poison, which put on quite a captivating show. Their 10 song setlist packed a punch of 80’s rock anthems such as “ Fallen Angel ”, “ Talk Dirty to Me ”, “ Ride the Wind ”, “ Every Rose has its Thorn ”, and more. Guitarist CC Deville even went into a captivating version of Van Halen’s “ Eruption ” during his guitar solo. They also included “ Unskinny Bop ”, which was a treat as they had not played it on this tour before. All 4 band members (Bret Michaels, CC Deville, Bobby Dall & Rikki Rockett) truly gave their all, and the crowd loved it.

While the stadium made it sound somewhat like a tin can, Poison absolutely rocked everyone that was there. The sound improved dramatically as people filtered inside and took their seats. Their onstage antics had the crowd on their feet, talking dirty and having “ Nothing but a Good Time ”. Poison truly put on an amazing show and helped to prove that they earned their spot on this tour. This was my third time seeing this tour and Poison and Def Leppard absolutely stole the show again!

Def Leppard Live at Lucas Oil Stadium

Next up, and in my opinion worth every minute of the four hour drive to be there was Def Leppard. The legendary British rockers have been a staple in the music industry for over 45 years and truly lived up to their reputation. While most bands chose to hunker down during the 2 ½ year break during covid, Def Leppard decided to make their twelfth “studio” album Diamond Star Halos …but they did it all via remote conferencing and from all over the world according to lead singer, Joe Elliott.

The album was received so well that they decided to dedicate almost a quarter of their set to it. Opening the show was their hit single “ Take What You Want ” featuring Joe Elliott’s powerhouse vocals, Rick Allen’s booming drums, Rick Savage’s melodic bass lines and dueling guitar goodness from Vivan Campbell and Phil Collen. Material from Hysteria made up a solid chunk of the setlist with hits such as “ Rocket ”, “ Love Bites ” & the uber-popular “ Pour Some Sugar On Me ”. “ Hysteria ” was also accompanied by a melodic outtro and hundreds of pictures and memories from the bands career displayed across the gigantic video wall, which was an amazing touch.

The band also broke into a semi-acoustic set for songs such as “ This Guitar ” off Diamond Star Halos and a singalong of “ Two Steps Behind ”. The band also went back to their 1981 album, “ High n Dry ” playing “ Let it Go ”, “ Bringin’ on the Heartbreak ” and “ Switch 625 ”, which featured Campbell and Collen’s magnificent guitar work.

This medley also featured a drum solo by drummer Rick Allen, who is affectionately known as “The Thundergod”. In a setlist refresh from the first leg of the tour, they included the hit “ Promises ” off their 1999 album, Euphoria. This song encapsulated the true talent and sound of Def Leppard and showcased some of the strongest background vocals and overall sound I have ever heard live.

The only “disappointment” of the show was the snub of material off their 1991 #1 album Adrenalize . Granted, Def Leppard’s catalogue of hits is so large they could easily double their setlist and still have hits left out. Even through things such as alcoholism, cancer, the loss of drummer Rick Allen’s left arm in 1984, and the passing of guitarist Steve Clark in 1991, Def Leppard has stood the test of time and lives on to be one of the biggest and best bands of all time.

This show was also particularly special because it was the 36th anniversary of Rick Allen’s triumphant return to the Donington festival and playing live shows after losing his arm. They were truly on their “A” game all night and went note for note with some of their biggest hits and truly blew the roof off the stadium, since this was one of the few stadiums on this tour with a roof.

Mötley Crüe Live at Lucas Oil Stadium

Motley Crue then took over the stage with the help a fake emergency broadcast message, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, & Mick Mars took the stage in a haze. It was almost a dream and having the Crue tour after their 2015 “Cessation of Touring Agreement”, it was a dream come true for many. Fueled by their successful Netflix biopic “The Dirt” they blew up that agreement and took to touring again.

Motley Crue has been both famous and infamous for the better part of 4 decades thanks to their music, crazy onstage behavior, and even crazier off-stage antics. Some of this was recently fueled by a scandalous photo drummer Tommy Lee posted on Twitter or by Tommy asking women to expose themselves at the concert. Even through the test of time they have powered through and still put on an amazing show. Motley’s 90-minute set was filled with surprises such as a performance of their new song “ The Dirt ” with Machine Gun Kelly on tracked vocals and a medley of hit songs such as “ Helter Skelter ” & “ Smokin in the Boys Room ”.

Their set also included a plethora of hits such as “ Girls, Girls, Girls ”, “ Dr. Feelgood ”, “ Wild Side ”, “ Kickstart My Heart ”, and more. A crowd favorite “ Home Sweet Home ” consisted of Tommy Lee on both the piano and drum set…as well as fans swaying their cellphone lights and singing along.

Frontman Vince Neil really got his act together and sounded the best he has in years, give credit where credit is due. While the bombastic bass playing of Nikki Sixx and monstrous drumming of Tommy Lee did seem to overpower the music at times, the Crue still sounded solid. Legendary guitarist Mick Mars dazzled the crowd with his unique guitar tricks and legendary riffs.

This was truly an action-packed night as the concert went from 3:45pm – 10:50pm. Audience members got quite a bang for their buck with some of the biggest bands of the 1980’s all the way to today. While all of them sounded amazing, the crowd did get a little restless at times and some even got a little too rowdy as fans were drinking too many signature Def Leppard beers or beverages of choice.

In fact, there was an unfortunate incident of a fan falling from the balcony during the show, the fan was not seriously injured but was rushed to the hospital as a precaution. Regardless, countless memories were made and the thousands in attendance witnessed a show to remember. This goes down in my book as one of my favorite concerts I have ever attended and seeing bands like this still on the road selling out the world’s biggest stadiums further proves that rock n roll is still alive and kicking!

We might be moving into the holiday season, but Kenny Chesney already has his eyes set on the summer.

Chesney announced plans Tuesday morning for his SUN GOES DOWN 2024 TOUR with Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker. The East Tennessean will headline 18 stadiums from April to August with his three support acts.

Chesney and Uncle Kracker collaborated on their hit “When The Sun Goes Down” a decade ago.

“I wanted a name that suggested – obviously – when all the good stuff starts to happen,” Chesney said. “The one thing I’ve learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times early, and they just keep it going. But we all know, when the sun goes down, that’s when people really get loose and enjoy themselves.”

Chesney said one of his favorite things about “When The Sun Goes Down” is that it “captured a vibe and a moment so perfectly.”

“No matter how much fun you’re having all day long, ‘everything gets hotter when the sun goes down...’ I know from years of experience that’s true,” Chesney said. “So, I can’t wait to get back out there, stadium-sized, ’cause there’s nothing like 60,000 members of No Shoes Nation singing these songs. It’s gonna be awesome.”

As for Zac Brown Band, Chesney compared them to Country Music Hall of Famers, Alabama.

“Zac Brown Band understands high-energy country, the same way Alabama did, and they’ve got our friend Caroline Jones in their line-up now, too,” Chesney said. “Megan Moroney isn’t just one of the smart new voices in country; she’s really bringing a sense of heart and joy to the music – and I’m fired up to be bringing her out to No Shoes Nation.”

Chesney will launch the tour on April 20, 2024, at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium and conclude it August 23 in Foxborough, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium per tradition.

Tickets for Chesney’s stadium shows will go on sale Friday, Nov. 17.

Before Luke Combs plays in front of the 'best fans' for his Milwaukee concerts this week, he tours Miller Brewery and even shotguns a beer

stadium tour music

Before Luke Combs kicks off his "Growin' Up and Gettin' Old" tour in Milwaukee this week, he went on another kind of tour. One that is quintessentially Brew City.

Combs, one of country music's biggest stars, is playing two shows at American Family Field : One Friday and another Saturday. But ahead of that, he took a tour of the Miller Brewery . And, we got to tag along.

Yes, he was every bit as kindhearted, down-to-earth and genuine as he seems. And yes, he shotgunned a beer just like he does on stage. Except this time, he was hanging out on a brewhouse rooftop with the iconic giant red Miller sign and the Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark as his backdrop.

Not only did Combs — a longtime Miller Lite fan and years-long partner — see where the magic happens, he also checked out the specialty packaging on cases and cans that's coming out in honor of his blockbuster tour.

"It's just surreal, you know?" Combs told the Journal Sentinel. "I feel like I get to live so many amazing, surreal moments. And, I'm really thankful for that for sure. It's crazy. It's crazy."

Here's what we learned about Combs' tour and what he got into on the Miller tour. And, how about his eight Academy of Country Music Awards nominations that were announced earlier this week? We asked him about those, too.

Luke Combs talks about his 'Growin' Up and Gettin' Old' tour and why he's kicking it off in the Midwest

A or A+ shows don't cut it for Combs. He's shooting for A++.

"I try to do everything I can do to take care of my voice, take care of myself, make sure that we're doing everything we can," Combs said. "People that come are the only reason we get to do what we do. Putting on an A++ show is really important to me."

About to embark on his 25-date stadium tour, he's excited — and "a little nervous."

"You feel like you're standing at the bottom of a mountain and you're looking at the top a little bit," he said.

But after last year's "Luke Combs World Tour," he said he feels more prepared for what's ahead of him.

"We've played everywhere all over the world," Combs said. "But, the Midwest, it feels like home to me. So, good place to start it."

HOW TO AVOID TRAFFIC: Luke Combs concerts could cause delays on I-94 this weekend

Combs, who grew up in North Carolina, hadn't been anywhere close to Milwaukee when he started his music career — his first plane ride came at age 25. But, he remembers his earlier stops up here fondly.

He opened for Blake Shelton at Summerfest in 2018 and made an appearance at Farm Aid at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in 2019.

"The Midwest is like the best fans in the world," Combs said. "I mean, honestly. People probably say that all the time."

But, that doesn't mean pulling out of the driveway Tuesday night wasn't hard after the "amazing" time he spent with his "awesome" wife Nicole and their two sons — Tex and Beau — these past few months. Fortunately, he won't have to miss his other half too long. She'll be headed up this way this weekend.

What will always make it onto Combs' setlist this time around? "The songs that people would expect," Combs shared.

"Playing all the hits," he said. "That's why people are there, and I want to give them what they want."

But, each night of the tour will have a different vibe.

Combs' opening acts Friday — in the order they'll hit the stage — are the Wilder Blue, Charles Wesley Godwin and Cody Jinks.

"Friday's more in the Americana, singer-songwriter world," Combs said. "So, our set reflects that a little bit. But, obviously, still playing all the hits."

Saturday's openers will be Colby Acuff, Drew Parker, Mitchell Tenpenny and Jordan Davis.

"Saturday night is more mainstream, Top 40 country stuff, which is what I do, really," Combs said.

Combs loves watching Jinks and Davis perform — they keep him honest, he said — and he knows they're going to kick some you know what.

The first opener will start at 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with gates opening at 5 p.m.

The parking lots will open at 3 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tailgating will be permitted. Give yourself plenty of time to drive in and get through security.

There also will be a "Bootleggers Tailgate Party" at 3 p.m. Saturday with two up-and-comers picked by Combs and Nashville-based concert series Whiskey Jam: Ryan Larkins and Graham Barham. It'll take place at Am Fam Field's Third Base Plaza, and will be free to attend for Combs concert ticketholders, with food and drinks available to purchase.

Luke Combs' love for Miller Lite and his visit to Miller Brewery

After getting into Milwaukee Wednesday morning, Combs hung out at the Brewers stadium for a couple of hours, worked out, then was off to the Miller Brewery.

How long has Combs been a fan of Miller Lite? "Forever, probably."

"My dad's been drinking it for a long time," Combs said. "It was always around the house."

If his music career never worked out, he said, he would still be sporting a Columbia fishing shirt and drinking a Miller Lite somewhere in the world.

"That's what I would be doing anyways," he said. "So, I really wanted to go after things that I was already passionate about that felt natural and authentic to me. So, I'm very thankful for (Molson Coors) being receptive to have me on board. I feel super lucky."

Sporting a Brewers Barrelman hat, Combs and his team walked into a conference room on the brewery's complex Wednesday. He was met by a small group of longtime brewery employees and other Molson Coors staffers. The beer cases and cans with his new specialty packaging were displayed on tables.

The design features a ribbon that says "Beer Never Broke My Heart" wrapped in between the tuning pegs of a guitar. Combs' name is at the top of the headstock.

After everyone went around the room introducing themselves, they were instructed to suit up in PPE — yellow safety vests, glasses, hard hats, toe caps and headsets.

On Combs' VIP tour of the brewery, he got a first-hand — and at times, hands-on — look at the operations with facts and history lessons along the way.

The first stop was a packaging plant, where Combs met machinist Jeff Malecki who has "But they ain't seen us together" from Combs' song "Forever After All" tattooed across his arm.

The two shook hands and got a picture together. That would become a reoccurring scene throughout Combs' visit.

It seemed like every employee who crossed paths with Combs received a handshake. And, if they wanted a photo or autograph, they got those, too, without any hesitation.

In the warehouse, Combs saw cases with the specialty packaging sliding out of a machine — he pulled his phone out to document that — and stacks of those cases getting carried off on a pallet via forklift.

At one point, Combs stood in front of what looked like a mountain of the cases. "Get this one," he said to a photographer as he hugged the cases as far as his arms would stretch.

Later, he'd get to snag one of the cans right off of a quick-moving line.

He got a taste of that and a few different brewery roles, including one that involved flipping a cardboard box filled with unconstructed cases into place. A few cases snuck out the back, but not too shabby for a first-timer.

"Thanks for letting me do that," Combs said to the workers as he shook their hands. "Thanks for letting me be in the way."

Combs also tried his hand at adding hops, one of which was liquid. "Have y'all seen 'Superbad'?" Combs asked with a bucket of hops in hand.

It reminded him of the scene when McLovin was trying to buy booze at a liquor store and said to the cashier: "You know, I heard they recently decided to add more hops to it."

Toward the conclusion of the tour, Combs said he had a "truly amazing" time. But, his favorite part had to be the grand finale.

He got to go up on a brewhouse rooftop with striking views of the city, the home of the Brewers and that big red Miller sign.

Up there is where he shotgunned a beer in under 5 seconds, and had the honor of sampling an exclusive maturation stock that not many get to try.

"To be standing up here is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Combs said.

How about those eight ACM Awards nominations

The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced earlier this week. Combs leads the nominations with eight , including entertainer of the year, male artist of the year, album of the year, song of the year, single of the year and music event of the year.

"It's really awesome," he said. "Always surprising, I think ... In a lot of ways, it feels like I've been doing this a lifetime. And, in a lot of ways, I feel like I've been doing it for six months. So, I feel like sometimes I'm so conflicted with knowing what to feel or think ... It's an honor. It's my wildest dreams coming true. So, I'm a very lucky guy every day."

A 2024 win via Combs nomination for entertainer of the year would clinch the coveted triple crown award, which consists of an entertainer of the year win plus wins in an act's respective new artist (male, female, duo, or group) and artist (male, female, duo or group) categories, a USA TODAY report said.

The event will air on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch live from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on May 16.

Morgan Wallen arrested on felony charges in Nashville after allegedly throwing chair from bar rooftop

By Christopher Brito

Updated on: April 8, 2024 / 12:39 PM EDT / CBS News

Country music star Morgan Wallen was arrested on felony charges after allegedly throwing a chair from a bar rooftop in Nashville on Sunday night, police said.

Wallen, 30, faces three reckless endangerment charges and one disorderly conduct charge following an incident at country artist Eric Church's six-story restaurant bar, Chief's, in downtown Nashville, the Metro Nashville Police Department said. Police said in a social media post that Wallen tossed a chair from the top floor of Chief's and it landed on Broadway – close to two officers.

His lawyer, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest and told CBS News in a statement that the singer is cooperating with authorities.

Wallen's bond was set at $15,250. He's scheduled to appear in court on May 3. His arrest comes as he kicked off his One Night At A Time Tour on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He will be in Nashville for his concert dates on May 2 through May 4.

On Sunday, his fellow country music colleagues celebrated wins at the  Country Music Television Awards  in Austin, Texas. Wallen's music video for "Last Night" was nominated for best male video of the year, but he lost to  Jelly Roll, whose "Need a Favor" video  won it instead.

Music | deja vu: overturned trailer truck creates commute havoc on i-880 for second day in a row, music | this silicon valley city has been named the swiftie capital of the u.s., roughly 137,000 fans attended the two ‘eras tour’ shows at levi’s stadium last summer.

When Santa Clara ceremonially changed its name to Swiftie Clara last summer in honor of Taylor Swift’s record-breaking “The Eras Tour” coming to town, it was supposed to be a fun gesture for two nights only. But the moniker seems to have stuck, as new data suggests the Silicon Valley city is the nation’s Swiftie Capital.

So how exactly did it nab such a distinction? The online gambling and research website Casino.org recently analyzed the 20 cities Swift visited on the 2023 U.S. leg of her tour, looking at tour attendance, google searches, TikTok posts and the number of Swift-themed events around the concerts, among other metrics.

Santa Clara got the only perfect score.

The study found that roughly 10,700 TikTok videos were recorded during the pop sensation’s July 28 and 29 shows in Santa Clara. One of the most viral of these, with 4 million likes and 19 million views, shows Swift pointing to the crowd during the “Enchanted” musical interlude as fireworks from Great America shoot up in the background, leaving attendees wonderstruck.

“Do you know why they were doing that?” Swift said later in the show. “It’s because I’m the mayor.”

Actual Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor, who bestowed Swift with the title of honorary mayor ahead of her late July visit to the Mission City, said she was “super proud” her city is the Swiftie Capital.

The mayor admits that while she wasn’t a Swiftie before, all the excitement around the singer’s visit has made her a convert. And nine months later, Gillmor said she still gets asked about all the fanfare around Swift’s visit.

“People are still very much aware that she was here,” she said. “I do think it has had a lasting effect.”

Casino.org estimated that approximately 137,000 fans attended the two “Eras Tour” shows at Levi’s Stadium, which is about 10,000 more people than the population of the city.

Santa Clara Councilmember Anthony Becker was one of the tens of thousands of fans who won “The Great War” — snagging one of 2023’s hottest concert tickets.

Becker has become a “Taylor Swift fan by default” through his husband, who he described as a big Swiftie. While he may not know Swift’s whole discography across her 11 albums — soon to be 12 when “The Tortured Poets Department” drops next week — he said his favorite songs are “The Man” and “Look What You Made Me Do.”

“Going to see what my husband is part of with this group of Swifties was pretty incredible,” Becker said. “To see how much energy Taylor Swift has is pretty incredible, and to now know that Santa Clara is the center of the Swiftie Empire, that’s pretty significant in itself. I’m very proud of that.”

Christine Lawson, the CEO of Discover Santa Clara, said she isn’t surprised that Santa Clara is getting recognized for having the most Swifties per capita. She called the anticipation around Swift’s arrival “palpable.”

“Though we’ve hosted remarkable artists and sold-out shows before, the ‘Eras Tour’ brought unparalleled exposure to our city,” Lawson said. “The immense media attention from the tour’s early stops sparked our creativity in devising a unique welcome for Taylor.”

Tickets to George Strait's Texas A&M concert are selling at a record pace

A decade ago, 104,793 George Strait fans gathered in Arlington for the finale of his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour at AT&T Stadium.

At the time, it broke the Rolling Stones' record for the largest audience for a concert at an indoor venue. It’s still Strait’s biggest crowd ever.

His upcoming concert at Kyle Field in College Station may be bigger.

Tickets went on sale March 28, and already more than 100,000 have been sold for the June 15 concert. Scattered platinum seats, starting at about $360, are still available at 12thmanfoundation.com. And blocks of seats associated with suites could be released for sale if the suite holders choose not to attend the concert.

The concert promoter expects attendance to exceed the AT&T Stadium show.

“George has always said he has the best fans, and there’s nothing like a Texas crowd,” Louis Messina, Strait’s longtime promoter and founder of Messina Touring Group, said through a spokesperson. “We knew the show at Kyle Field would be exciting as it’s the first-ever one of its size to be held in the stadium, but even I didn’t expect we’d sell over 100,000 tickets in just a few days. He’ll play to more people in one night than we did at AT&T in 2014!”

The audience for “The King at Kyle Field” could even surpass what is widely considered the highest attendance for a ticketed concert — excluding free shows and festivals — in U.S. history. That’s the Sept. 3, 1977, Grateful Dead concert at Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., which had paid attendance of 107,019, according to a report in Billboard a couple of weeks later.

Like the AT&T Stadium concert, the Kyle Field show will be presented in the round, with a slowly rotating stage in the center of the field, which maximizes the number of floor-level seats.

“Usually if you do an end stage, you’re blocking a pretty substantial percentage of your tickets” with video screens and space for production equipment, said Ebie McFarland, Strait’s publicist.

Capacity is just over 107,000 for the concert, so if every single seat sells, the Grateful Dead’s 47-year-old attendance mark could be beaten.

The record attendance for a football game at Kyle Field is 110,633 on Oct. 11, 2014, when the Aggies played Ole Miss.

Though Strait, 71, officially retired from touring at the end of the Cowboy Rides Away tour, he has continued to record and perform one-off shows, including several stadium dates with Chris Stapleton scheduled for later this year.

The Kyle Field concert will be his first in Texas since he played the Houston Rodeo in 2022 and his only Texas performance this year. The opening acts, both from Texas like Strait, are Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman. Both the format and lineup are unique to the Texas concert.

Messina is known for putting artists in front of huge crowds. He created the Texxas Jam rock concerts in the late ’70s and co-founded Ozzfest with Sharon Osbourne. Messina Touring Group is the promoter of Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour.

He has been working with Strait since his first country music festival on Labor Day 1993 at the Alamodome. He first worked with Swift when she opened for Strait on a series of dates in 2007.

“It’s a testament to George’s reputation as an entertainer and performer that here we are, still setting records and personal bests years later,” Messina said. “We’ve spent the last few years playing specialty one-off shows in markets he’ll likely never play again, and I’m excited about this summer of special shows with Chris Stapleton — it’s always been such a great experience for the fans.

"Bringing these magical nights from the King of Country Music to fans has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

USF football Spring Game sold-out as enthusiasm builds for on-campus stadium

  • April 11, 2024

USF Athletics

By Tina Meketa , University Communications and Marketing

With every new update, excitement continues to build over the new on-campus stadium. A groundbreaking date has been set, several renderings have been released and a new construction manager is ready to get the ball rolling. The fervor is contagious this USF Week, which is apparent as USF football’s Spring Game at Corbett Stadium on Saturday is a sellout.

“I think the on-campus stadium is a great way to not only get students to the games, which would increase turnout, but also a place to be a hub for alumni to reconnect with the university,” said Nicholas Sciscento, who graduated from USF in 2008.

“I think it will definitely improve the student experience – the same with faculty and staff – because it allows people to enjoy the game closer and it allows a lot of people’s family to come in knowing that there's a close stadium where they can see the games,” said Josh Odimegwu, a USF senior in the College of Public Health.

“It could definitely improve school spirit, more people are going to go to the games, and it might also bring in new students, new applicants and more people wanting to come here knowing that there’s actually a stadium on campus,” said USF junior KJ Agnew, who’s studying economics.

“The stadium is going to be wonderful,” said Della Chapman, who graduated from USF in 1989. “Me and my grandkids, we can walk to the games because we don’t live far. That’ll bring so much excitement to the community. The kids in the neighborhood will want to come here.”

USF’s on-campus stadium is scheduled to open in time for fall 2027. More information on the project is available here.
