ABOUT WHY DON’T WE:

Since their debut in 2016, Why Don’t We has amassed over 3 billion global career streams, over 900 million YouTube views, 7 million Instagram followers, two RIAA Platinum-certified singles, five RIAA Gold-certified singles, two Top 20 singles at Pop radio, and two Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. Taking an innovative and unconventional approach towards releasing new music and actively engaging their rapidly growing fanbase, the band put out their first five EPs within their first year together and followed shortly after with their inaugural full-length 8 Letters album in 2018. Soon after, 2019 saw the release of new singles monthly, including standouts “Big Plans,” “I Don’t Belong In This Club” featuring Macklemore, & the Ed Sheeran-penned/Steve Mac-produced hit “What Am I.”

The Los Angeles quintet—Daniel Seavey, Corbyn Besson, Jonah Marais, Jack Avery, and Zach Herron— went back to basics for their sophomore album, flatlining all social media and picking up their instruments to personally write, record, and produce the music themselves. Led by the band’s inaugural Billboard Hot 100 charting Gold–certified single “Fallin’ (Adrenaline),” The Good Times and The Bad Ones earned their highest debut on the Billboard 200 at #3 and their first #1 album on the album sales chart.

The band has sold out back-to-back North American and global headline tours, in addition to performing on historic stages such as Radio City Music Hall (selling out the venue in under two hours) and Madison Square Garden (as part of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour). Furthermore, Why Don’t We took home the award for “Choice Music Group” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, received a nomination for “Best Group” at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, and has made high profile national television appearances on NBC’s TODAY Show (including back-to-back summer concerts in Rockefeller Plaza), ABC’s Good Morning America, nationally syndicated Live with Kelly and Ryan, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.

Why Don’t We returned in 2021 with their highly-anticipated single “Love Back.” Teaming up with GRAMMY-nominated producer JHart, the triumphant new track finds the quintet sounding refreshed as ever after a turbulent year, finding creative solace and marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the group.

“’How Do You Love Somebody’ is a new and fresh song for us. Every song we make, we feel one step closer to defining the question “who is Why Don’t We?” and I don’t think the band has ever been so unanimous that a song defines who we are as ‘How Do You Love Somebody’ does. This song is filled with electric energy and even more electric guitars. It’s an anthem for all who have had a past lover that moved on too quickly, which all 5 of us can, unfortunately, relate to. We had so much fun making ‘How Do You Love Somebody’ and we hope you enjoy it as much we do!” – WHY DON’T WE

Since their debut in 2016, Why Don’t We has amassed over 4 billion global career streams, over 950 million YouTube views, 7 million Instagram followers, two RIAA Platinum-certified singles, five RIAA Gold-certified singles, three Top 20 singles at Pop radio, and two Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. Led by the band’s inaugural Billboard Hot 100 charting single “Fallin’ (Adrenaline),” The Good Times and The Bad Ones earned their highest debut on the Billboard 200 at #3 and their first #1 album on the album sales chart.

Why Don’t We re-emerged with their triumphant single “Love Back” in late 2021, sounding refreshed as ever after a turbulent year and marking the beginning an exciting new era. The band also teamed up with multi-Platinum producer Jonas Blue for their smash collaboration “Don’t Wake Me Up,” further cementing their newly found creative solace and control.

The band has sold out back-to-back North American and global headline tours, in addition to performing on historic stages such as Radio City Music Hall (selling out the venue in under two hours) and Madison Square Garden (as part of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour). Furthermore, Why Don’t We took home the award for “Choice Music Group” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, received a nomination for “Best Group” at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, and has made high profile national television appearances on NBC’s TODAY Show (including back-to-back summer concerts in Rockefeller Plaza), ABC’s Good Morning America, nationally syndicated Live with Kelly and Ryan, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.

We had so much fun making ‘How Do You Love Somebody’ and we hope you enjoy it as much we do!” they added.

Taking an innovative and unconventional approach towards releasing new music and actively engaging their rapidly growing fanbase, the band put out their first five EPs within their first year together and followed shortly after with their inaugural full-length 8 Letters album in 2018. Soon after, 2019 saw the release of new singles monthly, including standouts “ Big Plans ,” “ I Don’t Belong In This Club ” featuring Macklemore , & the Ed Sheeran -penned/ Steve Mac -produced hit “ What Am I .”

The Los Angeles quintet— Daniel Seavey , Corbyn Besson , JonahMarais , Jack Avery , and Zach Herron — went back to basics for their sophomore album, flatlining all social media and picking up their instruments to personally write, record, and produce the music themselves. Led by the band’s inaugural Billboard Hot 100 charting single “ Fallin’ (Adrenaline) ,” The Good Times and The Bad Ones earned their highest debut on the Billboard 200 at #3 and their first #1 album on the album sales chart.

Why Don’t We re-emerged with their triumphant single “ Love Back ” in late 2021, sounding refreshed as ever after a turbulent year and marking the beginning an exciting new era. The band also teamed up with multi-Platinum producer Jonas Blue for their smash collaboration “ Don’t Wake Me Up ,” further cementing their newly found creative solace and control.

The band has sold out back-to-back North American and global headline tours, in addition to performing on historic stages such as Radio City Music Hall (selling out the venue in under two hours) and Madison Square Garden (as part of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour ). Furthermore, Why Don’t We took home the award for “Choice Music Group” at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards , received a nomination for “Best Group” at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards , and has made high profile national television appearances on NBC’s TODAY Show (including back-to-back summer concerts in Rockefeller Plaza), ABC’s Good Morning America , nationally syndicated Live with Kelly and Ryan , The Ellen DeGeneres Show , NBC’s The Kelly Clarkson Show , CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden , ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!  and more.

Why Don’t We ‘Officially Going on Hiatus’ Amid Legal Battle With Former Management

By Tomás Mier

Why Don’t We is going on a hiatus and canceling its long-awaited The Good Times Only Tour as they continue a heated legal battle with their former management company, Signature Entertainment, the boy band announced on Wednesday.

“All we ever want to do in our careers is make great music and perform for all you lovely people. In light of this announcement, Why Don’t We is officially going on hiatus,” the group wrote on Instagram. “Your love and support mean everything to us 5 guys.  We love you!”

The group — comprising Daniel Seavey, Zach Herron, Jack Avery, Jonah Marais, and Corbyn Besson — pinned the cancelation of their coming tour to a cease and desist letter they said they received from Signature that prohibits them from entering an agreement “with any promoter or venue for this tour.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Why Don’t We (@whydontwemusic)

The group is set to face a hearing with the California Labor Commission in an attempt to remove itself from the Signature contract. The band previously accused David Loeffler, their former manager, of “ mental, emotional, and financial abuse ” last September.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances related to our ongoing legal battle to emancipate ourselves from the production company we signed with when we started our Why Don’t We journey, we regretfully have to cancel our 2022 Good Times Only Tour,” the band wrote.

The last-minute tour cancelation comes several months after they were also forced to postpone their tour and ticket sales due to “legal complications” regarding the court battle they’re currently facing with Loeffler’s management company.

The group broke their silence about the alleged abuse they say they faced at the hands of Loeffler in a statement last September.

“He would not only live with us during the day but controlled us 24/7, setting an alarm that would go off if any door or window was opened,” the group wrote in the lengthy statement. “We were not given the security code to the alarm, essentially making us hostages in our own home.”

The group also alleged that they were malnourished “to the point that some band members developed eating disorders” and that they were forced to “sneak food in and hide it in our dresser.” They wrote at the time, “We were verbally berated almost every day and alienated from our friends and families.”

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Phillips similarly accused Loeffler of “nightmarish behavior” in his lawsuit. Why Don’t We have publicly supported Phillips in his attempt to remove Loeffler from Signature Entertainment.

The band was set to hit the road to promote their 2021 LP The Good Times and the Bad Ones . At the time of the LP’s release, they told  People they were “forced to confront the ugly truth of our situation” following Signature’s attempt at legal action.

Why Don’t We formed in 2016 and released its debut album  8 Letters  two years later, including two songs written by Ed Sheeran. Their 2021 LP featured production credits by Travis Barker, Skrillex, and Timbaland.

Relive the start of the Korean-American rapper’s ‘About Damn Time’ Asia tour with NME

pH-1 live in Singapore About Damn Time tour

In partnership with IMC Live Global

“I’m here – about damn time!” That was the chant that resounded through pH-1’s concert in Singapore, the first Asia show of the Korea-American rapper’s ‘About Damn Time’ tour. On Saturday (March 11), the H1GHR Music rapper took fans through an energetic showcase of all his hits, from the singalong melodies of ‘Homebody’ to the hard-edged raps of ‘The Purge’.

After his triumphant Singapore debut, pH-1 will head to Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia before moving onto Europe. Read on for NME ’s recap of the Singapore show, complete with amazing photos.

Dreams fulfilled

pH-1 live in Singapore About Damn Time tour

It was pH-1’s first time ever performing in Singapore, and his fans let him know just how long they’d been waiting with mighty singalongs. They knew all the words, it seemed, to favourites like ‘Nerdy Love’ and ‘Iffy’.

All for the fans

pH-1 live in Singapore About Damn Time tour

pH-1 more than matched his Singaporean fans’ energy. Seasoned from months of performing in North America on the ‘About Damn Time’ tour, the rapper hardly missed a beat even when delivering motormouthed flows and interacting with his rabid fans, whether it was distributing Polaroid photos or grabbing fans’ phones for selfies.

Hits galore

Recommended.

No pH-1 fan could come away from the show feeling shortchanged: he’d prepared a stuffed setlist that showcased his rap chops and his R&B sensibilities (the two songs he dedicated to single fans, ‘Cupid’ and ‘Juliette’, come to mind). He catered both to day-ones and also fans who got to know him through other means like Show Me The Money (though Lee Young Ji wasn’t present, ‘Not Sorry’ still went off). Throughout, he was backed by a huge screen filled with bright animated visuals, while pitch-perfect transitions, like from ‘Homebody’ into ‘Groupie’, kept fans excited and on their toes.

A second wind

After ceding the spotlight to Singaporean rapper Shigga Shay for a short break, pH-1 bounded back onstage and charged straight into a blistering rap-focused section. The rapper truly caught a second wind, spraying the audience with water and spitting fire during H1GHR Music posse cut ‘The Purge’.

Good vibes only

pH-1 ended his show in Singapore with an uplifting call for optimism and good vibes. “On the internet, all I see is negativity,” he told the crowd. “So [to] the people that are here, please make sure you guys always stay positive.” Not a hard promise to keep walking out of a show as entertaining as pH-1’s.

pH-1’s ‘About Damn Time’ tour continues in Asia with stops in Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia – find more details here
