Tabuelan Plaza

Kantakuyan Fresh Spring Water

Honestly , it shocked me that during our thesis study, there are a lot of potential eco-tourism sites in the area. They have a lot to offer! The number one in our lists is Maravilla Beach as it is the longest strip beach in Tabuelan. But on your way to Maravilla, you’ll find some beach resorts near the proper town of Tabuelan. They have the fresh spring in Kantakuyan were Tabuelanons used to fetch water during the old days. People still go here for swimming and sometimes wash their clothes but its a clean, clear water. My group recommended the floating restaurant , and I’m happy to see it works out and the food is tasty. It is not as extensive as Bohol, but it’s good to experience it in Tabuelan.

Tabuelan Floating Restaurant

There are two sites that I couldn’t wait to see it done the fresh fish pond it’s an agricultural site . It is near Barangay Pajo and the cave in Barangay Kanluhangon. My group tried to get in there, but we’re not geared up and not professional to do more heavy research about that site. I have to make sure my group is safe and can return them safely to their families. I guess, if professional people will check that area and it is more reliable now to go there compared when we used to do our research then it would be great .

The right side area facing the beach of Maravilla Beach is where the Sun Set White Sand Beach Resort located

Do you know that you can also choose to visit Maravilla as a day trip only?

Enjoying the Sunset at Maravilla Beach

Why choose Sun Set White Sand Beach Resort?

  • The resort is relaxing because of a more extensive space and more significant area compared to the other resorts in the area.
  • They have ample parking within their property.
  • The only resort you can rest under the palm trees and feel the breeze of the ocean while breathing fresh air.
  • Guests who will choose to book here have a broader space to look around.
  • The owners of this resort continue to spread the kindness that their parents thought them. By letting other local vendors sell some goods inside their property. If you like to contribute and give livelihood to the locals in the area booking here makes you help them too.
  • They also offer a tent space here. You’ll enjoy and love it here.

Street Tarp For Sun Set White Sand Resort

How much they charge?

  • Cottage prices vary in size, but in general, it cost P 800 if big 1, 000
  • There are two bathrooms if you poop and or pee it cost P 5.00
  • For taking a shower, it will cost P 10. 00
  • Parking Fee is P 20.00
  • Tent Space Fee is P 100.00

How to get there?

Visitors from other country and state were coming from the north road..

  • Can travel to Cebu by plane or boat and head to North Bus Terminal.
  • They can choose to ride a bus, van, rental car, or hire a grab taxi that will transport them to Maravilla.
  • If they choose this route, there is a Meme bus that goes to Maravilla while the Ceres Bus or other public transportation needs to stop at the open market to catch a motorbike. For v- hire if you have more passengers, you might be able to ask the driver to drop you off to Maravilla directly, but you have to pay more than the regular fee.
  • If you are renting a private car and taking the North road route, be careful the spot in Logo where you need to turn to Tabuelan or else you wouldn’t notice it and will reach Bogo. Lol, You have to turn left from there and continue to go straight until you are in Tabuelan. When you reach the crossing, you have to turn right until you reach Maravilla.

Visitors are coming from the city using Trans Central road.

  • Visitors from the city who likes to visit the area or this road will make sense for them they can take Trans Central road to connect to Balamban. From Balamban you have to ask for the way going to Asturias, Tuburan, Tabuelan. I recommend getting a driver who knows the road to be safe in driving the area and take precautions.

Visitors were coming from Negros who dock in Tabuelan.

  • If you have your vehicle, you can go to Maravilla from the pier. Drive straight from the dock until you pass a public market or the bus terminal. Continue to go straight until you reach a crossing. From there you have to turn left going to Maravilla continue driving until you enter the town.
  • If you are taking public transportation, I’m very sure motorbike drivers would be happy to transport you to Maravilla. If not they can drop you off at the Public Market and you can hire another one.

Visitors are coming from the South.

  • Can be tricky if you have to commute. But trusts me, my sister and I traveled it ourselves during high school days, and we manage to get back home. So I’m sure you will handle the same.
  • You can ride a bus going to Tuburan, and from there you can ride a Bus going to Tabuelan. Ask the driver to let you go down in Tabuelan and from there ride a motorbike going to Maravilla.
  • If there is no bus when you arrive in Tuburan, hire a motorbike that will transport you to Tabuelan. For sure the driver will allow to carry you to Maravilla.

Visitors are coming from Bogo, Bantayan, Malapascua, and San Remigio.

Is it possible to visit Tabuelan from here? My answer is yes. Maravilla Tabuelan is the boundary to San Remegio, and one of their mountains is the boundary between Tabuelan and Bogo. You wouldn’t have a problem visiting Maravilla as it is very near to these towns mentioned above. From the islands follow the sign to Bogo and instead of going towards the city or Sogod turn to the right side where it takes you to San Remegio keep going straight it connects to Maravilla.

Fare Prices:

  • Van rental costs me about P 5, 000- P 7, 000 pesos.
  • Car rental costs me around P 3, 000- P 4, 000
  • If you have a family or relatives, who are kind enough to go together. It would be best if you fueled it two times, and I spent around P 3, 000 for fuel then gave my cousin P 1, 000. But take note this price we did a lot of driving around Maravilla to Tabuelan.
  • Ceres aircon and non-aircon- P 113
  • Meme bus- P 75
  • V-hire- P 120
  • Motorbike fee- P 40

Things to remember:

  • If you need medicine, make sure you bring them if you need anything most people drive to Tuburan or Bogo to buy something if it’s not in Tabuelan.
  • The internet is only in the proper town of Tabuelan, and the telephone signal can be hard to make sure to bring Sun Cellular, Smart and or Talk n Text. Globe networks work in the proper of Tabuelan. If not, you can always catch up free internet in their Public market.
  • Leave nothing but footprints.
  • Please don’t litter and leave your plastic bottles anywhere.
  • Please bring trash bags to carry your plastic trash back home if it’s possible. They don’t have proper garbage disposal yet. If you enjoy and care about our environment and want to enjoy the natural resources in this area, I beg to do so.
  • Have fun and please help take care of the area, so our future generation still has something to enjoy.

Tabuelan Travel Guide

The quiet unremarkable town of Tabuelan lies on the northwest coast of Cebu Island. It’s an ideal hideaway for serious isolationists and beach bums, but don’t expect much in the way of entertainment or amenities.

The town of Tabuelan has a reputation for offering little in the way of surface beauty, but its beaches make up for what the town lacks. If you can get past the roadside vendor stalls selling underwear and general lack of scenery you can find a decent selection of places to eat in town that sell fresh seafood at ridiculous prices.

Accommodation is best pursued along the beach, where several nice mid-range resorts offer quiet rooms that are great value. The sand is white and soft and the waters calm enough for swimming. Some of the resorts offer water sports options to add some activity to your beach lounging.

Getting There & Away

International travelers will need to fly into Mactan- Cebu International Airport to start off their journey to Tabuelan. The flight from Manila is just an hour. From the airport you can hire a private taxi to cover the 2 to 3-hour drive. Otherwise there are cheaper options if you make your way to Cebu City’s North Bus Terminal. Minivans depart from this terminal every hour for just a few dollars all the way to Tabuelan.

Things to Do

Tabuelan attractions.

The single attraction in this sleepy town is its pretty white sand beach, where most of the action, accommodation and beauty can be found.

Tabuelan daytrip: a floating restaurant and uncrowded beaches

' src=

I breathed a sigh of relief as I arrived at Tabuelan, a 4th class and one of the youngest municipalities located at the western coast of Cebu in central Philippines. I went there to try the Tabuelan Floating Restaurant , the first of its kind in the province.

Getting to Tabuelan I realized, is a separate adventure in itself. Since the public bus to the town is hard to come by, I took a van to Tuburan instead. From there, I then rode a habal-habal to Casiano Girona Family Park , the floating restaurant’s jump-off. This combo is not the cheapest option there is but it allowed me to arrive just in time for the vessel’s scheduled lunch departure.

A floating restaurant

Tabuelan’s very own floating restaurant only accepts reservations  (minimum of 10, maximum of 45 persons) at the moment. I guess I am lucky as the organizers accommodated a solo traveler like myself to join the two families who were booked that morning.

Tabuelan Floating Restaurant

While it had its maiden voyage only early this year, it will be inevitably compared to more established river cruises such as the one in Bohol.  But I think that the Tabuelan Floating Restaurant has enough charms that could make it stand on its own.

For one, Tabuelan’s vessel is smaller and allows for more intimate conversations on board. The port is not crowded too as there’s only one floating resto that plies the scenic and serene Batawang river. The experience is less hurried over all.

Tabuelan - floating restaurant

For our lunch, we were treated with Filipino ‘fiesta’ dishes – chopsuey , humba and many others. We also got to taste Tabuelan’s tinibuok manok –  native chicken stewed in tuba or local coconut vinegar. Everything is sourced locally which means that the menu may vary from time to time.

Tabuelan - Batawang River

Needless to say that there is still a big room for improvement for this emerging tourist destination. While I appreciate the tour guide’s informative spiel on the different mangrove species that abound in the area, they might want to think how to make the entire experience more interactive, especially for the kids.

I’ve been told though by Ms. Marifi Gerona, who oversees the entire operations, that in the future, there will be kayak, SUP (Stand-Up Paddling) activities and maybe, even firefly watching tours at night.

Uncrowded white sand beaches

I was about to leave for the city when Sherwin, one of the restaurant’s crew, volunteered to tour me around Tabuelan. I happily obliged of course.

Tabuelan - Maravilla Beach

We headed straight to Maravilla  which is probably the municipality’s most famous tourist spot. It is home to surprisingly uncrowded, blinding-white sand beaches. But that may not be the case this coming September 16, when the town will host the Tabuelan 226 , the first full triathlon race in Cebu.

Although Tabuelan has been successfully hosting the Tabuelan 111 since 2012, this is the first time that they will launch a full Ironman race (3.8km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km run).

Before heading back to the poblacion, we made quick stops at the bamboo boardwalk at Tigbawan, the World War II memorial plaque at Olivo and Durhan White Beach Resort , yet another uncrowded pocket of sand in Tabunok.

If I had more time, I’d visit the caves and springs located at the mountain barangays and enjoy the sunset over Tañon Strait with a few friends at the fairly new Metroland Beach Resort .

Tabuelan, Cebu

Sherwin shared to me that sunsets in these parts are spectacular and to borrow Tabuelan’s tagline – inspiring as well.  Well, I have to agree as I saw fleeting glimpses of its glorious orange hues as our V-hire made its way up the Cebu Transcentral Highway.

Since I’m not participating in any triathlon soon or maybe in my lifetime, I’ll just stick to sunsets. I hope to return to Tabuelan if only to witness one, and then some.

10 Best Things to Do in Tabogon, Cebu

10 Best Things to Do in Tabogon, Cebu

WHAT'S IN THIS GUIDE?

TABOGON - CAPITANCILLO PIN 1

An unexplored place that is hidden at the north of Cebu , Tabogon. It belongs to the 3rd class municipality in Cebu .

Tabogon comes from the bisayan word “busy”, because during the olden times, the bustling and busy farm fields marks this place.

Tabogon is bordered on the north by the city of Bogo, to the west by the town of San Remigio, on the east by the Camotes Sea, and on the south by the town of Borbon.

If you are looking for an up-and-coming destination in Cebu, check out this list of top places to visit and things to do in Tabogon, Cebu, Philippines.

1. Unwind at Guiwanon Cold Spring

GUIWANON SPRING TABOGON

The Guiwanon Cold Spring is located in Brgy. Maslog. Packed during the summer, the Guiwanon Cold Spring offers a cool, peaceful, refreshing retreat from the summer heat.

The pool was divided into two: The shallow part and the deeper one. The shallow area is good for kids while the deeper one is 6 ft. deep.

Entrance: Adult or Kids: 25 pesos

Parking fee 4 wheelers: PHP 20 (SGD0.5 , $0.4, € 0.3) 2 wheelers: PHP 10 (SGD0.25 , $0.2, € 0.15)

Cottage: PHP 100 (SGD2.5 , $2, € 1.7) (whole day)

Take note: There’s no corkage so you may bring your own food!

You should visit the place on weekdays rather than weekends, as surely you don’t want a small dimension spring to be jam-packed with locals or tourists.

2. Chill at Sea Turtle Lagoon

sea turtle lagoon - ren albs

At Sea Turtle Lagoon Resort, you can see and swim with sea turtles! Not kidding! Although they aren’t present everyday , the beautiful blooms will compensate this. The resort doesn’t have a swimming pool nor offer a whites sand or shoreline but who needs an artificial pool when you have a natural body of water right in front of you? Plus, their cottages look so sassy and cozy unlike other cottages in the Philippines that looks cheap and about to break because it hasn’t been maintained.

The water is very clean, no wonder why sea animals are very pleased. You will be pleased, too, for sure, because you can swim all day long and not worry about trash coming your way.

In regards to their rooms, you will totally feel like your in a different era because of the materials that they have chosen to use. It is kinda pricey but its definitely worth a try!

How to get there

  • To get to Sea Turtle Lagoon, ask the bus driver to drop you off at the Tabogon proper.
  • From there, take a trusty motorcycle to take you to the resort.
  • The fare is about PHP 20 (SGD0.5 , $0.4, € 0.3) only.
  • You can contact them here .

Note: This place offers snorkeling, cliff diving, deep sea diving, hiking and island hopping. Kids must be accompanied by adults at all times as it is very near the sea.

3. Cross the Salag Hanging Bridge and Mangrove

SALAG MANGROVE PARKIN TABOGON

Before anything else, let us examine and understand a Mangrove tree. Mangroves are tropical trees that thrive in salty and coastal waters. It has the ability to store vast amounts of carbon thus, mangrove forests are key weapons in the fight against climate change.

Also, you can spot the hanging bridge in the area but beware it is not for the weak (echos!!). The bridge is kinda scary but you should push through.

From the Tabogon bus terminal or from wherever you are, hail a motorcycle to take you to the Salag Mangrove Park. The ride won’t be smooth but you will have fun!

4. Swim at Bitoon Gamay

Bitoon Gamay is a bisaya word that literally means “star small”. This small place is not kid-friendly because it is actually very rocky. If you wish to take your kids to the water, proper swimming footwear should be provided because the rocks can hurt their feet. The water is very clean though and the area is surrounded by big rocks (can be IG-worthy). A few steps form Bitoon Gamay is Bitoon Dako which literally means “star big” and is actually bigger than this.

Your bus driver knows this place for sure! Tell him where you want to be dropped off and you’ll be there in no time. It is along the main road as well so you won’t have a hard time finding the place. It is found right after Nipa Beach, around 10 minutes away from the bus stop.

5. Be refreshed at Bunzie’s Cove

Bunzies Cove

The place will put you in utter silence! It looks like ordinary in the outside but once you take a little step in, you will see a very GREECE-inspired room, big enough for 10 people to fit. Its theme is also white. They have swimming pools fronting the beach and of course, a very warm view to watch the beautiful sunset. As mentioned, the beaches in this part of the north are not the best but you can still enjoy the view while swimming in the man-made pool if you like having man options.

Cottage and Room Rates, includes breakfast and good for 2 persons:

Kumintang Cottage (Non-Aircon): PHP 2500 (SGD62.5 , $50, € 42) per night Talisay Cottage (Non-Aircon): PHP 3000 (SGD75 , $60, € 50) per night Economy Villa (Non-Aircon): PHP 3500 (SGD87.5 , $70, € 59) per night Standard Room (with Aircon): PHP 4500 (SGD112.5 , $90, € 75) per night Deluxe Room (with Aircon): PHP 5000 (SGD125 , $100, € 84) per night

How to get there – The Cove is located where Bitoon Gamay and Bitoon Dako are found. So from the North bus terminal, take off at Bunzie’s Cove, after Nipa Beach. Be sure to tell the driver that! Take note that the resort is at the right side of the road. Should you want to book, call them at 3443039 or go to their Facebook  page.

6. Headless Virgin

According to some locals, long time ago, Moro seafarers or pirates stole the head of the statue of the Virgin. The locals tried to replace the head but they weren’t able to do so because the Virgin’s body suddenly became heavy. So they just left it there. Believing it was a miraculous happening, they made a shrine and altar for it. Today devotees and believers go there to pray.

7. Nipa Beach

Nipa Beach is rocky but the water is very clean and the sunrise is very nice. Although there are many boats parked in the spot, they add to the beach’s personality and look really good on camera! I like Nipa Beach because it is very raw, and not commercialized. You can still enjoy a peaceful day at the beach without having to pay a million bucks for the same experience. Just find a basic inn nearby and you’re good to go.

Again, Nipa Beach is along the main road and you will find it with the help of the bus driver. Don’t forget to tell him where you are headed you so won’t get lost. Just keep an eye on the right side of the road and for sure there’s a sign that says Nipa Beach.

8. Swim at the Hayag Pool Resort

This resort is situated near the Guiwanon Cold Spring. It is definitely worth checking out for its affordability, refreshing scenery and vibes, and cool swimming pool. It has opened to the November 2018, with an entrance fee of only 50 pesos for adults and 25 pesos for kids.

9. Batanes feels at Caduawan

No wonder why this newly discovered spot in Brgy. Caduawan in Tabogon  has been associated with the beautiful yet still-incomparable Batanes.

There is no specific name for this attraction as it is just a vast land area in Brgy. Caduawan, Tabogon. It is also worth noting that this is a good spot for stargazing or witnessing the milky way.  No  entrance fee or tent charge for now since this is a public area.

How to get there?

Exact location:  Brgy. Caduawan, Tabogon, Northern Cebu – 2-3 hours away from the city.

BY BUS: From the North Bus Terminal, ride a bus going to Bogo, Hagnaya, Maya-bagay. Drop off at Caduawan Elementary School in Tabogon. Fare is PHP 70 (SGD1.75 , $1.4, € 1.2) per person (one-way). There’s an alley beside the school. Walk a bit further until you have reached to the cemetery, but yes. That’s your landmark. You can also ride a habal-habal for PHP 20 (SGD0.5 , $0.4, € 0.3) per person — but this is just a walking distance.

BY CAR: If you’re bringing your own vehicle (accessible by 2- and 4-wheelers), just navigate with Waze or Google Maps and enter “Caduawan Elementary School” in Tabogon.

10. Emmare Beach Resort in Brgy. Maslog

Emmare Beach Resort is located just few meters away from the famous Guiwanon Cold Spring.

Details worth noting:

Entrance Fee: PHP 100 (SGD2.5 , $2, € 1.7) per adult PHP 50 (SGD1.25 , $1, € 0.9) per kid (10 y/o and below) Room Accomodation: PHP 1500 (SGD37.5 , $30, € 25) per night, good for 2 persons. Operating hours:  7AM to 6PM daily Contact number:  0919 538 0596 Email address:  [email protected] Social:   Facebook Page

Exact location:  Brgy. Maslog, Tabogon Cebu — approx. 3 hours away from the city. Only few meters away from Guiwanon Cold Spring.

BY BUS: From the North Bus Terminal, ride a bus going to Tabogon – just read the signs for Tabogon via Borbon. Inform the driver to drop you off at Tabogon Public Market. Bus fare is PHP 88 (SGD2.2 , $1.8, € 1.5) per head (one-way). From there, ride a habal-habal (motorbike) going to Emmare Beach Resort, fare is around PHP 20 (SGD0.5 , $0.4, € 0.3) per head.

BY CAR:  Just navigate with Waze or Google Maps and set your destination to “Monares EMMARE Beach & Resort”. Parking space is available.

The town is 3 hours away from Cebu City and is very accessible. Take a bus to Tabogon-Bogo in the North Bus Terminal and simply inform the driver where you wish to go. They will keep that in mind and will notify you once you are near.

There you have it, our very own Tabogon in the northern part of Cebu. The town may look like there is nothing interesting to explore but this place has some nice spots to offer. Why wait for a holiday when you can pack your things and head there now?
