Billionaires and A-listers pay me to plan their luxury vacations. For $150,000 a year, I get them into the best restaurants and hotels in the world.

  • Jaclyn Sienna India, 42, founded the ultra-luxury travel company Sienna Charles.
  • She didn't come from money but plans vacations for people worth at least $100 million.
  • Her job involves personally scouting destinations and specializing in quiet luxury hospitality.

Insider Today

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Jaclyn Sienna India, the founder of the luxury travel concierge Sienna Charles . The following has been edited for length and clarity.

I came from an extremely poor background , but I always had a vision.

I attended university for art history. I was a typical college kid, but at that time, I started working at a five-star French luxury restaurant , Le Bec-Fin, as a server. I didn't know how much that restaurant would impact my life.

The clients coming in came from wealthy backgrounds . I saw people spend $10,000 on dinner. They were super dressed up, covered in jewels, and coming in with Rolls-Royces to dine on the best food and drink the best wine.

I became enamored with studying people with ultra-high net worths. I wanted to take that elegance, knowledge, and personal service I learned in the restaurant and bring it to travel.

Faking it until I made it

I started my own travel concierge, Sienna Charles, 16 years ago. I definitely faked it until I made it, but I believed in it.

You could start a business for $99. But what you do with that after is when you start to grow as an entrepreneur . I opened my business, but it's not like the phone rang.

At that time, I was writing to Gotham Magazine and Manhattan Magazine, telling them that I was the most exclusive travel company in the world.

My husband thought I was the dumbest person in the world because we would get calls from people saying, "Oh, I saw your article. I'd love to go to Disney," or, "We're going to New Jersey for the weekend." And I was like, "Oh, I'm sorry, we're so busy, we're really sold out this season with high-net-worth people."

But I had no clients. My husband would say, "You're an idiot. Take the trip." And my response was, "No. I either work for the wealthy or I don't."

It took me three years to get a client. After booking my first billionaire client, I put the $30,000 profit toward my personal travel.

Most people would think I was an idiot at that time because I didn't have the money. In retrospect, it was about understanding the product.

I took it just as seriously from the beginning as I do today.

My dream was to create, for lack of a better term, a one-stop shop because the industry was so segmented. If you wanted to go on an African safari , you would call Abercrombie and Kent . If you wanted to go to Paris, you would call this person. You would call a broker if you wanted to go on a yacht. If you wanted to get a plane, you would call somebody else.

I wanted to be that one point of contact all the time for that wealthy person.

My clients are billionaires and A-listers with type-A personalities

Clients typically come to us. Their average net worth generally starts at $100 million. Annual membership fees range between $75,000 and $150,000, depending on the services clients require. On the lower end, that includes travel and dining services at home and while traveling. The higher-paying members get access to that plus lifestyle services.

But all members get access to our team 24/7 and my personal black book. We work with less than 100 families. We're handling their dining while they're at their multiple homes and booking their trips. We're an extension of them and their team.

When they reach out and want to become a member, there's an interview and then an onboarding preference call where we get to know them and build out their profile. We ask questions like: What are you comfortable spending nightly at a hotel? Do you prefer contemporary hotels or a more classical style? What are your favorite dining times? Are you OK with tasting menus? What type of guide do you like? We collect all that, and then as the travel and lifestyle requests come in, we use those preferences to help clients with anything and everything throughout the year.

We're learning about them constantly and using information to improve every experience. Some people want calendar invites, others want the mobile app, and others only want to email.

Related stories

It's a very difficult, complex business because it's not one size fits all.

During COVID, we helped people gain second passports and pick new locations to build a home. We're first and foremost a travel company, but because we have such a great methodology of sourcing like-minded vendors that share our ethos, we're often asked to help clients with different aspects of their lifestyles.

Many of the people we handle are A-list celebrities, but also very much the billionaire next door. They are generally self-made entrepreneurs and CEOs, and they have type-A personalities.

The expectations are quite high. But I've learned if somebody's willing to give $75,000, it doesn't mean they're a fit.

We've had people who don't want to relinquish control. That doesn't work. We need to be on the same page.

But it generally works out well. When you have a CEO, whether male or female, they understand the principles of a successful relationship as communication, delegation, and hiring somebody to handle a problem you're looking to solve.

I have a unique relationship with our members. They're the smartest, busiest, most incredible, talented people in the world. It's a family. The fact that they trust us is not taken with a grain of salt.

We do sign an NDA with clients now. Ones not covered by an NDA are George W. Bush and Mariah Carey.

And we've done it all. Money talks, right? If you want to close down the Taj Mahal or you want to close down monuments in Turkey, we've gotten it done. People just want what they want and are willing to pay for it.

I specialize in quiet luxury travel

In terms of the trips, we do the simple to the sublime.

Clients could live in Los Angeles and not have an apartment in New York City and maybe want to go there for three nights and stay at a great hotel — that trip could be $10,000 a night in a hotel. So, we do those regular trips and trips that cost well into the millions, like going to Africa with helicopters and private jets.

Before it had a name, we definitely had been practicing quiet luxury travel and hospitality.

Almost all the clients we have don't want to be seen. They've reached a level in their success where they don't need to prove it to people by taking pictures of their pasta at Carbone.

The people in Capri in July are one set of people, and the people on a small island on their own yacht in Sicily are another group. That's the people we cater to.

You can read 1,000 travel magazines, and people say, "This new hotel is incredible." I don't think it's incredible until I go there and see what I think of it.

So many times, I'd been excited about a popular new hotel or destination and was disappointed.

However, the beauty of hospitality projects, whether a hotel or restaurant, is that they always have an opportunity to improve because they learn from their mistakes.

But being on a list just means that everyone who follows lists will go there. I've become a real filter for our members to ensure they only visit phenomenal places that live up to expectations.

I rarely travel for leisure

I'll take a vacation very rarely. It'll be when I know everything is all set, like after Christmas to January 15th, when everybody's on mental break.

Everything else is work. Every week, I'm generally in two places.

I'm on the computer answering the team all day and night. I work 40 to 50 hours, sometimes 60 hours a week. When I travel in Europe, before the team gets on, my calendar is filled with site inspections, meetings with clients, or meetings with new vendors.

I have a very type-A personality. I'm focused on living and breathing by my calendar and having every minute dedicated to the company's growth.

I use my own service. I don't think many owners try their own service or know how everything flows.

We often get asked to sell our company. I don't want to sell my company; I'm still learning. It's something that drives me every day.

It's like polishing a diamond. Every day, I become a better business person and a better leader to handle the challenges of running a 20-person team that is committing to the most difficult people in the world, in the most difficult time in history, to deliver phenomenal customer service every minute of the day.

Despite the chilly weather, Chrissy Teigen and husband John Legend took their children to the historic streets of London. The family seemed to get confused by the difference between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, though they learned the difference (according to their Instagram captions, at least). It seems from photos that the fam stayed at the Rosewood London , where the most basic rooms start around $600 a night in February.

8. Actress Megan Fox and Rapper Machine Gun Kelly: Italy, $150+/night

The recently engaged pair posted a few snaps from what appears to be a quick getaway to Italy’s Lake Como, near the Swiss border. The two bundled up in furry winter coats for a ride on the lake and strolled through the cobblestone streets, though they didn’t say where they stayed. While Lake Como is actually somewhat affordable in the winter, with four-star hotels like Hotel Castello Di Casiglio and the Albergo Terminus Hotel starting at under $150 per night, they most likely stayed at a luxurious hotel such as the Vista Palazzo (starting at $780 per night in February) or the famous Mandarin Oriental, which starts at $760 per night.

What will be the celebrity hot spots in 2022?

According to Brian Harris , owner at boutique luxury travel agency Aspen Travel Advisors , you can expect to see more trips from celebrities in 2022, rather than multi-country trips. “COVID regulations have complicated border crossings and wealthy travelers are much more hesitant with complicated itineraries. Simpler itineraries, slower travel, and longer duration trips are more common now.”

Oh, and if it seems like celebrities, influencers, and even average Joes are filling their feeds with travel photos more than ever before, you’re not wrong. “‘Revenge travel’ is a real thing,” says Harris. “Travel was taken away from [wealthy travelers] entirely, new regulations have complicated travel itineraries, and an explosion of net worth from investment and a lack of travel spend has created a bigger demand for travel than we have ever seen. We are making hotel reservations at $5,000, $7,000 and even $10,000 per night.”

Harris says that the top necessities of his wealthiest travel clients include exclusivity, privacy, and space. He’s booking remote destinations instead of urban escapes. “We have one family who books a separate bungalow for each family member and an additional hotel room for extra private space as they sometimes have to remote broadcast on CNBC,” he says.

So where are the wealthy, privacy-seeking who’s-who going in 2022? Harris thinks three international destinations will be the next hot spots — French Polynesia, Fiji, and the Caribbean — as well as one domestic location: Hawaii.

In French Polynesia , he thinks you’ll see celebrities staying at resorts like The Brando , a private resort on a former royal Tahitian island; and Nukutepipi , a resort on a private island where the only option is a week-long buy-out for a cool $1 million.

In Fiji, he’s seeing interest around private islands like Laucala Island , the largest private island in the world, which offers private yachts and submarines, among other offerings. (It’s also entirely self-sustaining).

Global: Are celebrities effective at promoting travel products and services?

Global: Are celebrities effective at promoting travel products and services?

Celebrities and influencers endorse a wide range of products but when it comes to the travel sector, only around one in five global consumers believe celebrities are effective at advertising travel products and services (18%).

A new YouGov survey conducted in 17 markets measures the influence of celebrity endorsements across a range of categories including travel, beauty products, food and clothing. The travel sector came in sixth in a list of 11 categories we asked about.

Out of all the markets, British consumers are least likely to find celebrity endorsements effective for travel products and services (10%) along with the French (10%). The US is only slightly higher at 14%.

Consumers in urban India (28%), UAE (26%), and Indonesia (25%) are most likely to find celebrity endorsements effective. Hong Kong (25%), Mexico (23%), China (23%), and Singapore (23%) also score above the global average.

Celebrity endorsements can leverage consumers’ affinities for athletes, actors, and influencers if executed well. Our data shows that while global consumers aged 18-24 (20%), 25-34 (20%), and 35-44 (19%) are more inclined to think that celebrities are effective in promoting travel products and services, these types of endorsements tend to be less influential with our older age groups of 45-54-year-olds (17%) and those aged 55+ (15%).

5 travel planners who book trips for celebrities and the ultra-rich shared the 6 most surprising things about their jobs

5 travel planners who book trips for celebrities and the ultra-rich shared the 6 most surprising things about their jobs

  • Insider spoke with travel industry experts who book vacations for celebrities and the ultra-rich.
  • Five luxury travel planners shared the most surprising parts of their job.

For the ultra-rich, travel looks different than it does for the everyday person.

Their vacations often involve dining at the world's grandest restaurants, private tours of the Taj Mahal, or contracts that stipulate a certain room temperature in five-star hotel rooms .

Insider spoke with five luxury travel experts who help high-net-worth clients book vacations that cost anywhere from $15,000 to a few million dollars. Here's what surprises them the most about their jobs.

Even after 11 years, one Disney travel planner is still shocked that money is never an issue

Greg Antone lle, the managing director of Mickey Travels , told Insider that his team of 250 travel agents has helped plan Disney trips for professional athletes, actors and actresses, and members of royalty.

5 travel planners who book trips for celebrities and the ultra-rich shared the 6 most surprising things about their jobs

While he's booked these trips countless times, Antonelle said he's still shocked by how easy it is for clients to say yes to pricey itineraries.

"There's really no deliberations. They just say, 'OK. Let's do it,'" he said. "They want to do anything that they can to make it special and memorable."

Not every celebrity insists on booking the nicest suite

Alternatively, Antonelle said while a VIP tour guide might be worth $30,000 to a client, the same client might not care as much about the dinner reservations or the hotel they stay in.

For example, Antonelle said his team helped coordinate a vacation last December for a well-known singer and actor who booked a basic room at a Disney World resort.

"We've booked certain clients that you would think go all out and spend incredible amounts of money," Antonelle said. "But they don't."

Planning trips for celebrities sometimes involves odd requests

Celebrities are likely to have specific requests when it comes to lodging, experts told us.

Jason Couvillion, a partner at Bruvion , a travel firm that works with famous musicians, comedians, and actors, estimates that his leisure travel clients spend an average of $20,000 on a trip, though budgets vary. He's currently helping an ultra-wealthy family book a $600,000 weeklong vacation.

Couvillion said many of his clients have riders, which are contracts that outline hotel and backstage requests.

As Marie Claire reports, riders can sometimes include extravagant requests like how Mariah Carey reportedly requested a bottle of Cristal champagne with bendy straws on a tour, Britney Spears wanted a framed photo of Princess Diana in her dressing room, and Rihanna asked for a large fur rug.

Couvillion said that riders are part of the job and said he has fulfilled requests like setting a specific room temperature, stocking a mini fridge with a certain brand of water, or guaranteeing how much sunlight comes through the window.

But what surprises him the most is that some celebrities don't actually want all of their odd requests. "We have people that just throw stuff in the rider," he said. "Not because it's stuff that they want specifically, it's because they just want to know that the hotel actually read the whole thing."

For example, Couvillion said he worked with one artist who required a specific Diptyque candle in every hotel room of a tour. By the end, the musician had plenty of candles but left the request in their rider just to "make sure the hotel paid attention to everything else."

Planning celebrity travel sometimes requires some hand-holding

Couvillion said that his clients are great but are sometimes not used to doing "everyday things" or adapting when travel goes awry, whether it be a missed flight or an airport greeter no-show.

"Sometimes you'd think that walking through the airport was the hardest thing in the world for them to do by themselves," he said.

Some travel agents didn't expect to create and form lasting connections with clients

Both Catherine Heald, the co-founder and CEO of Remote Lands , a luxury travel company that books trips across Asia, and Meg Shepro, a travel consultant with luxury tour operator Scott Dunn Private , said that relationships are the most unexpected part of working in the luxury travel industry.

Heald told Insider that she's often connecting her ultra-rich clients, who spend anywhere between $25,000 to $500,000 on a vacation, to famous artists, politicians, royalty, and architects around the world. Those connections often last longer than the scheduled trip, she said.

"We'll set somebody up with a local archaeologist in Siem Reap in Angkor Wat, and they'll end up staying in touch with that person for years," she said. "It's really the human connections that are the most gratifying at the end of the day."

Shepro agreed and said that she and her coworkers work with the same client multiple times. They might help a client book an African safari one year and a villa in the Maldives the next. The average trip for Scott Dunn's Private travelers is $50,000, but Shepro said at least once a month, they get requests for trips that cost more than $100,000.

Over time, the travel consultants form friendships with their clients, she said.

"They know things about our lives that are going on and we know things about their lives," she said. "It's less transactional."

For some industry experts, the most surprising thing is that requests stop being surprising

Jaclyn Sienna India, the founder of the Sienna Charles luxury lifestyle company , told Insider that after working with clients who are worth $500 million or more, no request, no trip, and no task can faze her.

She said she's closed down world monuments like the Taj Mahal in India and the Colosseum in Italy as well as reserved 50-yard-line Superbowl tickets the day before the event.

"Nothing is surprising because it's all so normal," she said. "We really can get anything done, it always comes down to how much you're willing to spend."

What Advisors Need to Know About Celebrity’s New All-Inclusive Fares

What Advisors Need to Know About Celebrity’s New All-Inclusive Fares

Photo: Celebrity

Last week, Celebrity Cruises made waves after announcing it was shifting its pricing to a three tiered all-inclusive fare called “Always Included.”

The fares, which officially launch on Nov. 17, will include unlimited drinks (cocktails, wines by the glass, beer, sodas); unlimited WiFi; daily gratuities; and more depending on what tier the customer books.

Speaking to Travel Market Report, Celebrity’s Senior Vice President of Sales, Trade Support and Service Dondra Ritzenthaler said that the pandemic-induced pause in operations provided the perfect opportunity for Celebrity to continue its evolution of the “new-luxury.”

“It’s really about being able to compete with the luxury lines while having all those things you can’t do on a small ship,” Ritzenthaler said.

Celebrity built the new fares with the help of an outside consulting agency that helped them reaffirm what they already knew about their brand.

“We made the decision when we had to take this pause way back in March and April to use the time to get an outside consultant and really figure out where we should be, what we should be doing differently, who should we be marketing to, etc.” Ritzenthaler said.

“Usually we don’t have time to do these things. We hired a consultant and did a lot of things that validated what we already knew. We want the comeback to be stronger than the setback.”

Shift to the ‘New-luxury’ Celebrity began the transformation long before last week’s announcements. When the line debuted Celebrity Edge, the first of its Edge-class ships, in November 2018, the talk from travel advisors was how the Edge would revolutionize the industry.

Now, with more Edge-class ships coming and the Celebrity Flora, the first ship designed specifically to sail the Galapagos, already debuted, Celebrity is in the midst of a shift to the “new-luxury.”

That move, which is highlighted by the new fares, includes a focus on The Retreat, Celebrity’s ship-within-a-ship concept that allows clients to have an ultra-luxury experience on a modern ship that sports all the amenities of the industry’s best large ships.

Another aspect includes an extended targeting of Generation X, the cohort between Baby Boomers and Millennials.

“We really came at this very analytical and very strategic so that audience, in general, is really the sweet spot for Celebrity Cruises because of their time and their expectations and because of what they expect in their vacation,” she said.

“When we get manically focused on that Gen X market, not only is it going to get the Gen X, but the multi-generational market also really works because the grandparents, parents, kids, everybody will have a wonderful time.”

Advisor commissions Non-commissionable fare components have long been a thorn-in-the-side for travel advisors everywhere. With the new fares, Celebrity is now giving advisors the opportunity to earn commission on items that they were never able to before.

“It was absolutely a factor in the decision,” Ritzenthaler said. “Because we absolutely have the success of travel advisors as one of our pillars.”

“The customer loves it because it gives them choice, the advisor loves it because of what it does for the customer and because it’s financially better for them, and we love it because we get it right for both of those groups.”

With the new fares, Celebrity advisors will now be able to earn commission on tips, WiFi, and beverage packages, onboard credit, and shorex credit, depending on what package that client books, something that was never available before.

Training and promo codes So far, Ritzenthaler said, Celebrity has trained about 10,000 of its travel advisor partners on the new fares since the announcement last week. The goal going forward is to get 50,000 advisors trained over the next four weeks.

Advisors can contact their BDM or go to the Celebrity advisor portal to get informed of when the trainings are taking place, but for the moment, Celebrity is committed to offering twice-daily trainings.

Another advisor-perk of the shift to these kind of fares is how it impacts the simplicity of the bookings for advisors.

Previously, Celebrity had 27 total promo codes for advisors to keep track of when booking and now, with the three new fares, Celebrity is at eight—four refundable codes and four non-refundable ones.

Demand impact Celebrity has seen a fairly steady amount of bookings even with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to impact the world.

“We’re really proud of the demand that we are generating for 2021 but obviously we want to keep our pedal to metal doing everything we can to keep to bookings coming in,” Ritzenthaler said.

“It shows the resiliency of our loyal guests and our travel advisors – they really never stopped. The volume obviously reduced but we continued to partner with our travel advisor and co-op with them to make sure bookings have continued to come in. We really want everyone to know that we never really stopped and now with this great news we can see the increase.”

So far, Celebrity has seen an “overwhelmingly response” from the trade.

“The overwhelming response from the trade is things that they say it separates us from all the other competitors,” she said.

Book directly with Celebrity or use travel agent?

Cool Cruiser

I am looking for opinions. We are about to book an Alaska cruise on Celebrity for this spring. We have sailed on Princess a few times in the past few years but are switching to Celebrity because of its no indoor smoking policy. So, we are new to Celebrity but not entirely new to cruises. I am looking for opinions on the best way to book. Travel agent or directly with Celebrity online or something else. Thank you in advance.

There’s no best way

some people like travel agents, especially when that gets them extra OBC

some people like booking direct because they feel like that gives them more control

The old TA vs Direct thread! 🙂

We have always booked directly with Celebrity and usually book a year or two ahead while on a cruise. Then we watch the prices fluctuate wildly for the next year! When it goes down (and it will) we call directly and discuss with the Celebrity representative. We have always been pleased with the interactions with the customer service folks. We also watch for extra perks and call when that happens.

The argument will be that the TA will get you extra OBC or whatever (a big box warehouse place will give cash cards), but the problem will be that once tied into a TA, you can't contact Celebrity directly. This played into a scenario for a friend not long ago where a sale was announced and the friend couldn't get their TA to call in time.

Our experience has been that we have saved money (sometimes in cash, sometimes in perks) by dealing directly. I know that to be the case as I have looked for the same sailings using a TA, but not got the same pricing and/or benefits. However, you do need to your own footwork.

Whichever way you choose, enjoy the Celebrity experience! 🙂

Like above poster it’s preference.  The TA’s I deal with are very responsive.  I had booked a cruise this year with one who had a great rate/group rate pricing but cxled with hem because they were had to reach. I ended up booking with another ta who had similar rates and find them they are very responsive along with great rates.  Does take some searching tho at times.  I use to book only with celebrity but now able to find better rates  thru ta’s.

5,000+ Club

There really are dozens of threads with this same theme.

There is absolutely no way we would ever book direct with Celebrity  or any cruise company.  With the exception of OBCs available when booking onboard (which you can then switch to a TA and get more OBC) anything that Celebrity can offer a TA can offer.

With our savings by booking group pricing (not available from the cruise line) as well as additional OBCs, we literally have f ully paid for several cruises with the money we've saved.

Have no desire to be in control of my booking.  Our TA handles that with expertise and since she works on her own under a large TAs umbrella, I have contacted her at 5:30 AM and have had a response before 6:00 AM.

Fouremco

There are many, many threads on this topic, all of which have their share of proponents for booking directly, booking with a TA, and booking directly and transferring the booking to a TA. I've done all three over the years but now almost exclusively book with a TA because of the roughly 10% I get back in OBC or other perks.

This type of negative thinking about using a TA overlooks two main issues: a good TA is not going to be offline for the duration of any sale offered by a cruise line, and even if I missed out one time on a sale, the perks I get cruise after cruise after cruise more than outweigh that potential loss.

In any event, OP, consider the options and go with what makes you comfortable. If you've used a TA for your past cruises and have been happy with their services, there's no need to change just because you are trying a new cruise line.

I have found that a combination of above has worked best for me.  I search for the cruise I want and watch for price drops and phone into cruise company and have it adjusted as often as necessary.  As I get closer to final payment, I will hand it over to a reputable TA that will give me the best OBC.  This seems to have provided me with the lowest fare (by TA giving me straight up credit) and lots of OBC.  Good luck.

But don't you only have 60 days after booking with the cruise line to switch to a TA?  We book far too far out for that to work for us.

wrk2cruise

I don't know about other lines but Celebrity limits transfers to a TA to 60 days from the date of the original booking.

I'm in the camp where I usually book directly with Celebrity (generally onboard).  This way I can make sure the booking is exactly what I want.   Then transfer to my TA.   This also gives the ability to shop the reservation with multiple TAs to see who might get you the best deal.   Remember that some TAs charge change or cancellation fees.

I have tried a couple of TAs and have ended up with one in Florida who is quite responsive but also works with a large agency with good hours 7 days a week.  If I can't reach my agent with something time sensitive I can call the 800 number and someone will take care of it and my agent follows up when he returns.

ECCruise....I think you may be right.   ☺️   This last cruise we reserved was a bit more "last minute" than how I usually book.  There were some tremendous price drops on suites right up to final payment and we were even able to upgrade from a CS to a RS after final for a very low amount.

nycruiser80

I always use a TA but I am partial to them as I used to work in that industry. My travel agent is my former coworker and he is excellent, I wouldn’t think of booking direct. He has a lot of experience cruising and knows the ins and outs of the industry. On every cruise I book with I get whatever rate the cruise line offers (as well as any OBCs they are offering) plus onboard credit or free gratuities or sometimes both from the travel agent’s office. There are times he has group space on some cruises which makes the cruise price less than booking direct with the cruise line. He also monitors prices and gets me price drops IF they apply to me. Last year he booked an Azamara sailing for me. Price went down after final by a lot and I wasn’t entitled to the price drop. He was able to negotiate a nice upgrade for me.

The one time I did book direct, I ended up having issues with two incompetent cruise line agents though to be fair that was through Princess not Celebrity.

It really is is a personal preference. I’m the type of person that I book my cruise and I am done. I have no need to keep calling the cruise line and have control over my booking. For my needs there isn’t anything to control, my agent tracks prices for any promos I’m qualified for and I’m set.

We always book directly with Celebrity. Within the 60 day transfer window I'll call a TA and see if they will add any perks (group rates, OBC, gratuities, specialty dining...) and if so I'll transfer the booking to a TA.

It will go down except when it doesn't...  My cruises booked for this Feb have more than doubled in cost since I booked well over a year ago.

whitshel

As a travel agent minimum obc for an Alaskan cruise is $150 extra probably more because we can put u in a group to lower your rate and get more obc.

Silkroad

I usually book directly with Celebrity, and then transfer to my TA within 60 days. I do this both because I care about stateroom location, and I don’t feel like playing phone or email tag when I’m ready to book. That said, I would definitely book directly with my TA for other lines, because she is far more familiar with them than I.

Mike981

If you are comfortable doing it and find a deal that makes sense to you, book on board and then find additional benefits from a TA later. That is our plan next week on the Reflection. If we don't find anything to pull the trigger on, so be it. In a way it is like booking excursions. Some like to stick with the comfort of booking with the cruise line and others like to book on their own. It's all good.

Swordfish1949

Swordfish1949

We usually book directly with Celebrity and then transfer to our TA. Often times cabin selection is far better with Celebrity and this way we still get the benefits our TA brings.

Our TA rebates about 10% of the cruise fare back to us in the form of a check which we receive about 10 days prior to sailing. In effect we would be paying a 10% surcharge to book and keep our booking directly with the cruise line. That makes no sense. Plus, our TA is very responsive and helpful.

Not all Travel Agents allow you to participate in the Move Up program.  Otherwise I have enjoyed OBC and Cash Back from the big box TA.

We have done it both ways and for us, we like our TA, thus absent some intervening event, we use a TA.

You don't have to go through your travel agent to participate in the Move Up program, just go to celebritycruises.com and follow the instructions. I've done it twice, but wasn't successful, as their minimum bid was more than I could have booked the cabin initially.

Hi Grandgeezer,

I thought the same thing...  When I logged into Celebrity's site, nothing would happen. I sent Celebrity and email with my TA's name and Celebrity confirmed in writing that the TA "opted out" of the Move Up program.  I then called the TA who also confirmed I could not use the move up program.  Yea, I was pretty disappointed.

How Celebrities Do Disney World

7 Ways to get the VIP Experiences of the Rich and Famous

Disney World is a magical place for all, but it’s a whole new level for celebrities. They have the ability to enjoy Disney in ways that an average individual wouldn’t be able to. However, there are ways in which ordinary guests can experience Disney as the rich and famous do. From splurging on top-notch dining experiences to skipping the lines entirely, these tips will help you get the most out of your visit to Walt Disney World Resort. 1. Work with an Experienced Disney Vacation Planner

When it comes to VIP experiences at Disney World, the best thing you can do is work with a knowledgeable travel agent. A Disney vacation planner can help you get the most out of your trip, whether you’re looking for luxury accommodations or VIP treatment at Disney’s resorts and attractions. They can take care of the logistics, book everything, and coordinate with Disney to ensure you get the special treatment only celebs can get.

Many luxury Disney World resorts cater to celebrities. These hotels offer top-of-the-line amenities, large family suites , beautiful views, upscale dining, various recreational options, and easy access to theme parks. Here are some of the most exclusive high-end hotels.

Disney Deluxe Hotels

Celebrities seeking VIP access and luxury accommodations often stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa when visiting Disney World. The resort’s Victorian elegance and fine dining are a favorite among celebs, as well as its easy access to the theme parks. Oprah, Johnny Depp, and Princess Diana have all stayed at the Grand Floridian in the past. Moreover, Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) played the piano in the lobby of the Grand Floridian on an episode of Full House.

For those looking for a more romantic or exotic stay, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows offer close proximity to Magic Kingdom as well as an array of South Pacific-themed amenities. Finally, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge both provide luxurious accommodations and VIP services. Whichever Disney Deluxe Resort you choose, you’re sure to have a VIP experience fit for a celebrity!

Five Star Hotels

If you’re a celebrity, chances are you’re used to VIP treatment. And when it comes to vacationing at Disney World, there’s no shortage of luxury accommodations. The Four Seasons Resort Orlando is the only 5-Star and AAA 5-Diamond hotel at Disney World, making it the perfect choice for discerning travelers. The resort offers world-class service and amenities, including an 18-hole championship golf course, a kid’s camp, a relaxing adults-only pool, and a 5-acre water park with a lazy river . And, of course, the Four Seasons is conveniently located close to all of the Disney attractions.

These luxurious hotels offer everything from championship-level golf courses to stylish sophistication and impeccable personalized service. So whether you’re looking for VIP treatment or just the ultimate in luxury, a 5-star hotel at Disney World is perfect for you.

Signature Services

Celebrities often enjoy VIP treatment when they visit Disney World, thanks to the exclusive services provided by Disney Signature Services . Even if you aren’t a celebrity, you may still qualify for the special VIP treatment and expert planning services from Disney Signature Services.

To qualify for Signature Services, you must either (1) book a private VIP tour, or (2) stay in a Club-Level Room, Suite, Grand Villa, 2-Bedroom Villa at Disney’s Riviera Resort, a bungalow at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, or a cabin at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins. If you’re a celeb, Signature Services will provide you with the appropriate staff to ensure your visit is as safe as it is magical.

The Vacationeer travel agency can act as your liaison to Signature Services, helping to make your stay even more pleasant and hassle-free.

Celebrities often enjoy VIP treatment when they visit Disney World. Staying in a Club Level room category is one of the best ways to experience the luxury and exclusivity the resort offers. Club Level rooms are in the most desirable locations throughout the resort, and guests enjoy complimentary food and drinks throughout the day at the Club Level Lounge. In addition, Club Level rooms come with other various special perks, including private concierge service. As a result, celebrities often choose to stay in Club Level rooms when they visit Disney World to enjoy the best the resort offers.

Do you have questions about Disney World’s Luxury Hotels?

If you want to experience Disney World like a celebrity, you should stay at one of the exclusive resorts or hotels. As outlined above, some of the best places to stay include the Grand Floridian, the Bungalows at Polynesian Village Resort, and the Four Seasons Orlando. These hotels and resorts offer the best accommodations, amenities, and services. They will make you feel like a VIP from the moment you arrive. For more information or to book your stay, contact The Vacationeer today!

4. Dine at Exclusive Restaurants

When celebrities visit Disney World, they often want to experience the same things that regular guests do. That includes dining in the parks and resorts. While there are plenty of places for celebrities to eat at Walt Disney World, here are a few of the most popular spots.

Fine Dining for Celebrities

If you’re wondering where celebrities like to eat when visiting Disney World, you’re in luck. Several restaurants are known for their luxurious atmosphere and impeccable cuisine. Signature Dining Restaurants offer an array of dining experiences, from Chef Series events to wine tastings and fine dining.

Victoria and Albert's

Victoria & Albert’s is a celebrity favorite, offering a refined setting and award-winning dishes. Other popular restaurants include Flying Fish , Jiko – The Cooking Place , Monsieur Paul , Takumi-Tei , and Cinderella’s Royal Table . Michelin Guide restaurants offer outstanding food quality and elegant surroundings for the ultimate in luxury dining. CAPA and Ravello at Four Seasons Resort Orlando are both Michelin-rated establishments, as is Cítricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, The Polite Pig and Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs, and California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. No matter your culinary preferences, there’s sure to be a celebrity-approved restaurant that’s perfect for you.

Celebrity Sightings

If you’re hoping to spot a celebrity during your next trip to Disney World, you may want to head to one of the posh restaurants on the property. Many celebs are known to enjoy dining at Victoria & Albert’s, Citricos, or Narcoossee’s, which are all located at the Grand Floridian Resort. Celebrities have also been spotted at California Grill at the Contemporary Resort, Jiko – The Cooking Place at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot.

Keep in mind that while you’re more likely to see a celeb at one of these upscale eateries, there’s always a chance you could run into them anywhere on the property. Celebrities don’t just frequent fine dining establishments. For example, Neil Patrick Harris enjoys Epcot’s La Cava del Tequila, so much so that he even created his own Black Magic Margarita for Choza de Margarita. Actor Chris Evans loves eating lunch at quirky Hollywood Studios restaurant Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is a favorite among celebrities. The food is incredible, and the walls are covered with photos of famous people who have eaten there. You might even see a few familiar faces while waiting for your table!

Hollywood Brown Derby is another popular spot for celebrities. This restaurant is known for its Hollywood-inspired atmosphere, which extends to the autograph book on display. Several famous diners have signed these pages, so you never know whose signature you’ll find.

5. Go on Disney’s Best Rides

Just like ordinary people, celebrities like to visit Disney World and enjoy a little magic from time to time. They, too, like the same rides that are popular with everyone else.

Favorite Celebrity Rides

Chris Evans is known for his portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one of his favorite rides is Flight of Passage. Justin Timberlake and his son Silas enjoyed a trip to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World, where they created their own lightsabers. The Haunted Mansion is a big favorite of Ryan Goslin , and Space Mountain is a massive favorite of Paul Scheer . Michael Jackson ‘s favorite Disney World ride was Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Because of his love for Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Imagineers decided to place a tribute to the King of Pop in the queue!

Celebrity Cameos at Disney Attractions

Celebrities are often featured in Disney World rides, adding an element of familiarity for riders.

Rock’n’Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, for example, features posters of the band members outside and a pre-show featuring them in action. In addition, Aerosmith ‘s music blasts during the exhilarating Disney roller coaster ride.

It is also not uncommon to see celebrity cameos in rides, such as Mission: SPACE with Gary Sinise . And, of course, Pirates of the Caribbean at Adventureland features an animatronic portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow, made in the style of Johnny Depp and added after the film series’ success. These celebrities add an element of fun and excitement to the ride and make it more enjoyable for riders.

Best Disney Theme Park for Celebrities

Celebrities love Disney World for the same reasons everyone else does: it’s a magical place where you can forget about your problems and have fun. While some celebrities may have a preference for one theme park over another, they all enjoy the experience of being in Disney World.

Magic Kingdom is always a popular choice, given its status as the most-visited theme park in the world. However, other parks like Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom offer unique experiences that appeal to celebrities as well. Ultimately, there is no wrong answer when it comes to choosing a Disney World theme park – every star enjoys them all, and you will too!

6. Visit Disney World’s Best Golf Course

If you’re looking to spot a celebrity while vacationing at Disney World, you might want to hit the links. Numerous celebrities have been known to enjoy a round of golf at one of the resort’s championship courses. Tiger Woods is perhaps the most famous example, but he’s far from the only celebrity golfer who’s been spotted at Disney World. Others known to tee off at the resort include Arnold Palmer , Jack Nicklaus , and Bubba Watson , who played the Magnolia Golf Course at Disney in 2021.

Disney World’s best golf courses attract not just celebrity athletes but golfers of all abilities – from amateurs to seasoned pros – with private and group lessons. The Vacationeer can provide more information about the courses and book your tee time for you!

7. Pamper yourself at Disney’s Spas

When it comes to luxury, few places can compete with Disney World. From the moment you step into the resort, you’re transported into a world of opulence and fantasy. It’s no wonder, then, that celebrities often flock to this iconic destination. And while there are plenty of ways for the rich and famous to enjoy themselves at Disney World, one of the most popular options is to visit one of the resort’s world-class spas.

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is home to one of the most popular spas among celebrities. The Grand Floridian Spa offers a wide range of luxury treatments, from massages and facials to manicures and pedicures. And with its pampering services and elegant surroundings, it’s easy to see why celebrities love spending time here.

Other popular spas among stars include those at the Four Seasons Hotel Orlando, the Waldorf Astoria Orlando, La Vida Health Club at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Mandara Spa at Disney’s Dolphin Hotel, and Zahanati Massage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. These hotels offer similar luxury services as the Grand Floridian, making them a perfect choice for celebrities looking to be pampered during their trip to Disney World.

Whether you want to relax in a sauna or get a couples massage, you can find the perfect spa for your needs at Disney World. So next time you plan a trip to the happiest place on earth, don’t forget to treat yourself to a little luxury at one of Disney World’s amazing spas.

How Celebrities Book Disney World

Celebrities seeking a luxurious, pampered experience should book their Disney World vacation with The Vacationeer . They’re a Diamond Level Producer and an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, meaning that Disney itself recognizes them as one of the highest level agencies in the country. The Vacationeer will book your Disney Private VIP Tour and coordinate with Disney’s Signature Services Department to get your extra attention.

The Vacationeer will also book your Advanced Dining Reservations and schedule your ground transportation. They can even teach you how to use the Disney Genie app , which makes booking and keeping track of your itinerary easy.

Celebrities deserve the best of the best when it comes to vacation planning, and that’s exactly what they’ll get when they book with The Vacationeer . So why not let The Vacationeer handle everything and enjoy a stress-free vacation? You’ll be glad you did!

Why You Should Use a Travel Agent to Book a Celebrity Cruise

Image Why You Should Use a Travel Agent to Book a Celebrity Cruise

WHY BOOK WITH TRAVELPERKS AND NOT DIRECT?

Top Three Reasons:

1) We are  unbiased experts who share information the cruise lines and resorts wont.

2) It does NOT cost more and should save you money and time.

3) We are paid by the cruise lines and tour operators, NOT you.

  • INDUSTRY EXPERTS:  We are constantly updating our product knowledge through continuing education (product & destination seminars, tradeshows, seminars at sea, site inspections), by building professional relationships with the cruise lines, district sales managers, and getting valuable client feedback. Our office is filled with people who love travel and we most likely have someone who has "been there and done that", and who will share that knowledge with you.
  • WE SAVE YOU MONEY & TIME: We have the same rates and promotions as the cruise lines, resorts, and tour operators ("vendors") but we also have access to  specially negotiated rates , such as exclusive group rates, regional specials, or other rates only available to our agency. A vendor agent can never offer you a group rate for an individual booking we do it every day for our clients. The bottom line is that we cost you nothing and can actually save you money. We offer better and lower cost travel protection policies than many direct vendors. Lets not forget the old adage "Time is Money." We also save you a lot of time by doing the research for you and giving you the ability to ask questions of experts.
  • UNBIASED INFORMATION: We work for YOU and have YOUR best interests in mind. We do not work for any one specific vendor. We research information specific to you and find the best rates, itinerary, and accommodations that are right for you. Booking direct is a "one size fits all" scenario. They can only sell their company, whether it is the right option for you or not. A company agent can never recommend another cruise line or vendor and they are trained and paid to follow the path of least resistanceto get your money and get you off the phone as quickly as possible. They wont suggest alternatives that are in your best interest unless it means a bigger sale.
  • PERSONAL ATTENTION: As professional vacation specialists, we share our knowledge & experience. We will get to know you personally, by asking important questions, so that we have a better understanding of your vacation needs and dreams. Were a small office of dedicated professionals, so you dont have to worry about never speaking to the same person twice.
  • GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR: When you book directly with a vendor, you are paying for services even if you dont use them. Travel agent commissions are always automatically built into the price of your cruise or tourit is the way the industry has always priced itself. If you book direct, the company just pockets the commission, and you get nothing in return. When you book your vacation with us, you have an advocate. Someone who will be with you from start to finish and even after you return from your vacation.  You represent just one booking to a vendor, while our office represents thousands...and our parent company represents hundreds of thousands. We have tremendous buying clout. You, unfortunately, do not. We work hard to build an open, honest, and long-lasting relationship with our valued clients.

That is why the majority of our clients are repeat travelers or referrals from past clients.

It pays to use the services of a professional travel agent!

Imagine you are about to set sail on the fabulous vacation you booked through a cruise line months ago. A vacation that you planned and saved for over many months, is about to begin. You anxiously burst into your stateroom only to find that the balcony you thought you would relax on, is obstructed. Trying to stay positive, you get ready to have a good nights rest and wake up the next day to embark on your first shore excursion. However, you rest very little, because all night you hear the dragging and moving of chairs in the lounge above you. In the morning, grouchy and tired, you soon find yourself stuffed into a coach with over sixty other travelers headed out on the same excursion. It is not what you expected at all.

But, there is another way. Booking with a travel agency like TravelPerks ensures that you will choose the right cabin and cruise for you. We are unbiased experts ready to devote our personal attention to you, and share information the cruise lines and resorts won't. Our agents know how to navigate selecting a cabin based on price, location, and your needs. It does not cost you more to use a travel agent but should save you time and money. We partner with our own shore excursions group, guaranteeing you a lower price on excursions than the cruise line offers, as well as smaller group sizes. We are paid by the cruise lines and tour operators, not you. To learn more about why you should use TravelPerks to book your next cruise, click  here .

Thinking of a Celebrity Cruise? Do you know if you would prefer the Solstice-Class, Millennium-Class, or Edge-Class ship? Do you know how to monitor your cruise for a price drop, and grab that new price? All these questions can be answered and assisted by our expert travel agents.

Celebrity Cruises is a contemporary line known for innovation in cruising. Lets check out three of the most interesting facts about Celebrity Cruises:

1. Female Captain

Captain Kate McCue is currently captain of Celebritys newest ship, The Edge. Not only is she one of the very few female captains in the industry, but she and her cat have become Instagram celebrities. With two separate Instagram accounts (@captainkatemccue, and one devoted purely to her cat @bugnaked) the two share their adventures in sailing. McCue is a shining example of the next generation of ship captains, and Celebrity no doubt loves being represented by her.

2. New Ship

The first Celebrity Edge-class ship launched at the end of 2018 and made a splash with its interesting, and never-before-seen features. The most dramatic being a magic carpet platform that hangs out over the right side of the ship. The platform rises and falls during the day, becoming a bar/lounge, or a platform to load passengers onto tender boats. Other exciting offerings on this new ship include innovation in performance, with Eden. Eden combines a moving performance with a bar/restaurant atmosphere in the evening, and a garden oasis during the day. Intending to push the envelope, Celebrity surely brings a fresh perspective to cruising.

Celebrity is known in the industry for their excellent food and dining having won many awards over their years. If eating good food and trying delicious culinary creations is your idea of a vacation, then Celebrity is your cruise line. From steak to vegan they have everyone covered. And right now we are celebrating Celebrity Cruises all month (March 2019). Book your cruise in the month of March and receive free specialty dining for two, on us*! Call today to learn more.

*Subject to restrictions including stateroom and itinerary. Call to find out if your cruise qualifies.
