Well, my truck is at 196k, so it's a good possibility it is the same issue. A good place to start anyway. Thanks for the info.

perry1 said: Flashing set light means that the speed control is in fail safe mode. Fail safe is entered when a malfunction is detected. One of the first things to look at is the VSS. Does the speedometer work OK? Also try pressing the brake pedal a few times to see if there is a problem with the cancel switch on the pedal mechanisim. Maybe look up under the dash for the switch and see if anything abnormal is noticable. The switches on the steering wheel can sometimes stick. Actuate them a few times and turn the wheel back and forth a few times. Take a look at fuse #5 (10A). Make sure it is good. Click to expand...

HELP: Blinking Cruise control???

  • Add to quote

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. Sometimes, when I am driving along, I hit the cruise control and it comes on but the Set light starts blinking and doesn't stop. I tried hitting everything to turn off the Set light but it just keeps blinking and won't let me set the cruise control. This only happens sometimes, but when it does, it won't stop blinking until I turn off the car and turn it back on. Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any help on this would be much appreciated. -Matrix

That's strange, I've used my cruise control several times now. The set light never has blinked. I would take it to the dealer. Rob

set light ??? are u talking about the one RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLINKER LIGHTZ ive had that light flash once and once only never again

Happened on my 929 The cruise control light would blink for no good reason that I could think of. I would select the cruise control 'off' then back 'on', and that would fix it until the next time which could be weeks or minutes. I never took it in to Mazda since the warranty had run out, and the slight inconvenience of periodic resets was certainly easier than a skyhigh repair bill. Take it to your dealer. PG

That happens to me too! I shut the car off and it's fine.... I'm not goingb to mess with it...It only happens once in a while..

it happened to me i took it to the dealer and they said they reset it .. thats there solution to everything

I've used cruise control almost everyday for the last 8 months and never seen that.

Thanks Altimat...I will have to get it checked out next time I go to the dealership. -Matrix

I haven't had that problem but I sure hate the fact that the SET and CRUISE light-throughs ARE NOT EVEN F***CKING CENTERED ON THE DAMN LIGHTBULB BEHIND THE SPEEDO! Cheap POS! AGAIN!

2008 cruise set light flashing. Restart and OK some

  • Add to quote

Well since my gf got a new RAV4, and my Ford Truck engine just took a major dump, I find myself having to drive her 2008 Versa. So there are things I have to do to make it a good driver for me. #1 is the cruise control. I have only driven this car for 5 years. I think it's been a problem for at least that long. My gf never used the cruise so she has no idea. She bought it new. It has gotten a lot worse so I'll just describe what it does now; I start the car, go out on the road, and turn the cruise on. Almost always the set light is flashing. I stop and restart the car, and maybe it'll be fine. It seems like it'll stay working if my trip is under an hour. Just a guess on that. I've gotten to the point when I get up to speed and it fails, I just put it in neutral, turn the engine off and restart it, back in drive, and almost always its fine again. I thought it was brake switch related, but I exercised the switch this morning and its exactly the same. Plus it fails when I'm not on the brake at all sometimes. Only today, it got a lot worse. I was driving home and set the cruise, and it shut off like I had hit Cancel. I set the speed again and it shut off again in less than a second. It doesn't show a flashing set light either. It happened like 4 times in a row, then was fine. That was something new, or nearly new. I've had it go to fail while in use, but that has only happened like 3-4 times ever. So originally i was thinking some speed sensor. Since this does not have ABS, I'm guessing there's not one at each wheel? I think I'll replace that brake switch when I can find one. Searching for one is tough as it always comes up a brake light switch, not the cruise brake switch. I think they looked different. Maybe it was just the color of the connector. Gotta look again. So anyone know why it would fail like this, mainly now as soon as I start out. If I am just sitting in park, it powers up fine. No flashing set light. Seems like as soon as I move is when it fails, but then why not later? confusing

This is from Service Manual. CANCEL OPERATION When any of following conditions exist, cruise operation will be canceled. • CANCEL switch is pressed • More than two switches at ASCD steering switch are pressed at the same time (Set speed will be cleared) • Brake pedal is depressed • Clutch pedal is depressed or gear position is changed to the neutral position (M/T models) • Selector lever is changed to N, P, R position (A/T and CVT models) • Vehicle speed decreased to 13 km/h (8 MPH) lower than the set speed When the ECM detects any of the following conditions, the ECM will cancel the cruise operation and inform the driver by blinking indicator lamp. • Engine coolant temperature is slightly higher than the normal operating temperature, CRUISE lamp may blink slowly. When the engine coolant temperature decreases to the normal operating temperature, CRUISE lamp will stop blinking and the cruise operation will be able to work by pressing SET/COAST switch or RESUME/ ACCELERATE switch. • Malfunction for some self-diagnoses regarding ASCD control: SET lamp will blink quickly. If MAIN switch is turned to OFF during ASCD is activated, all of ASCD operations will be canceled and vehicle speed memory will be erased. You might have to take it to a shop that can read codes other than powertrain codes. You will most likely have to pay a diagnostic fee.

Cruise Control failure...flashing cc light

  • Add to quote

I searched the forum and have tried all suggested remedies. Hoping I can get a bit of help since I tried everything I can think of. My cruise control does not work on my 2000 Frontier V6. When trying to set it, the cruise light just flashes. I have replaced the relay (near the fusebox near the passanger side wheel well), the relay under the break pedal, checked for vaccum leaks, and checked all fuses. Everything appears to be fine. I took the truck into the dealer some time ago on an unrelated issue, and they informed me that I had a slightly cracked manifold. I understand that this is a failry common defect on the Frontier, but not sure if it has any relevance to my cruise. Thanks,:wtf:

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Make sure all of your brake lights are working!

Well I had it at the dealer for an un-related issue. I had them look at that, and they determined that there were two problems. The "Cruise Control Pump" and the brake switch. I tried to replace that brake switch some time ago as a troubleshooting step, but I could not figure out how to remove it. Also, does anyone know what they are referring to as the cruise control pump? I can not find anything with that description at parts places.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Not sure specifically to Frontier, but usually there is brake switch that is "normally open" and "closes" the circuit when the pedal is pressed down, a spring actuates it, the up pedal arm prsses the finger in to open the circuit. Stick your head underneath the dash and look up, press the brake pedal. A similar or the same switch will operate the brake lights themselves. Lots of times these mount in a hole and are secured by a locknut. Post some good pictures if you can. You can test such switches with either a multimeter set in volt mode or resistance (ohms mode), multimeters go on sale at sears regularly for $12-15. As to pump, most cruise controls use a vacuum cannister with a cable to a throttle. For sure I'd check all my vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks. Could cracked manifold affect vacuum to the cruise? In my non-Frontier truck I installed aftermarket Audiovox cruise control, cost $100, and it works. So if yours costs too much to repair, maybe consider that.

Thanks, I will check with a meter. As for the manifold, that has been repaired. I really dont think it is a relay issue for the CC. I can now set cruise, but it will not hold speed.

Any other ideas on this one? Going on a long road trip soon and really would like to have cruise. All hoses etc seem fine. Is there a main control unit for CC?

Cruise Control SET light Blinks

  • Add to quote

I ran into something weird the other day while on a road trip. I had my cruise control set at 70mph and it disengaged all of a sudden. I thought maybe i hit the button by mistake so I reengaged it. A short while after it disengaged again and this time the SET light was blinking and I couldn't reengage it. After shutting off the truck it would work for a really short while ( approx 2 mins ) and then the blinking SET light. I read in the manual it would blink if the system picks up a malfunction any idea what could be wrong? I also get the infamous VDC light on occasions problem too. Not sure if that matters. Any help would be appreciated 2007 Xterra 2X4 Automatic 45,000 No Mods

flashing set light I have the exact same problem with my 2005 Xterra. Am on a long 2500 mile trip and 250 miles into the trip, after a pit stop, the set light is flashing and the cruis:dork:e is DOA. Other posts show check fuses . . . did that no joy. Just learned it might be the brake lamp switch, or the 3-switch package in the steering wheel. Anyone have any recommendations other than the shotgun approach of replacing everything? I'm still on the road trip, so stopping at a dealership for a fix, that lasts all day is not in my schedule? 2000 miles without cruise is going to kill my right foot! http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/images/smilies/dork.gif

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

my 01 did that but i was going through some really deep water so i figured something got wet. Turned the truck off and on again and it was fine.

by chance are you pulling a trailer??? i know in my 00 when i hooked up a trailer that wasent grounded right the cruise wouldnt work...

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

I think this is fairly common, and I am unsure that it is even a problem. Used to happen with my MR2 often. I would not stress it. Another thought, clean the connection in the CC module.

found a very good wiring diagram and diagnostic guide for the xterra cruise control at the following link: http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/200...system-circuit-and-schematics-troubleshooting

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Does any one have a diagram that shows the interior fuse block with labels as to what each one is for a 2001 Xterra? My panel cover was missing when I bought it.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Mine started doing this as well, long drive, in the rain. I just put it in neutral and turn the key off and on and it went away, never came back. Anyone ever find out WHY this is happening?

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

its a sensor thats on top of your tranny thats going bad... can think of the name of it right now.... I had this issue on my old hardbody, I think it might be called the tps sensor.... Im just not sure lol if i remeber ill let you know I know its on top of the tranny though

Follow this thread this sensor is whats going bad on yours http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14269

What kinda road conditions are we talking? I believe cruise will be disengaged if there's any wheel slippage.

I was on flat roads. And dry conditions

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Sounds like the second "condition" applies in your case. This is from the service manual. I'll look for more information... When the ECM detects any of the following conditions, the ECM will cancel the cruise operation and inform the driver by blinking indicator lamp. o Engine coolant temperature is slightly higher than the normal operating temperature, CRUISE lamp may blink slowly. When the engine coolant temperature decreases to the normal operating temperature, CRUISE lamp will stop blinking and the cruise operation will be able to work by depressing SET/COAST switch or RESUME/ACCELERATE switch. o Malfunction for some self-diagnoses regarding ASCD control: SET lamp will blink quickly.

Hmmm... If I understand the manual correctly, there are six components (switches, actuator, and indicator) that can cause the SET light to blink if a malfunction is detected in any one of them. I vote for taking the X to a mechanic.

i just had this problem. i replaced the switches in the steering wheel and it still isnt working. i guess i will take it to the nissan place one day this week. i know, revival lol

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

Had the same problem with the our Audi and it is the ABS sensor or worst case scenario the ABS Module which it turned out to be for me. I think Nissan has a recall on our ECM not sure if that is tied into the ABS Module or not. SS were loosing cruise randomly with VDC light on and off randomly.

thanks man. it looks like the cruise is tied into the ecm. im thinking i should get the ecm recall done and see if that fixes it first.

that recall only covers up to 2006 models. hopefully that isnt what it is or i am screwed. ill just have to hope for a bad switch or something i guess.

I think somebody is selling 2 front ABS and 1 rear sensor in the for sale thread. I that ends up being the problem you can save yourself quiet a bit with the prices he is asking. Keep us updated on the status and best of luck.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

this happened to mine once awhile back, went to use the cruise and it would not engage the set light kept blinking. not sure what the problem is haven't had it happen again.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

I had the same problem on a log road trip a year ago... the only unusual conditions I can think of was rain. It was very cool out too, so I don't think anything was overheating. When I got home, I played with all the grounds under the hood, and I haven't had a problem since. Of course, my fiddling and the failure of the problem to return aren't necessarily related.

the nissan place is going to look at it tomorrow. i had to call and give an ass chewing because the tech didnt balance my tires or fix the tpms light the last time i was in there. i called them this morning and asked them if they were competent. the service manager promised that he would fix it and he would also have some words with the tech. they get their last chance tomorrow, after that its going to be corporates problem.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

My 07 SE did this one day back when I first got the truck...I was going to take it in but then it randomly started working again the next day and worked ever since. :dontknow: Damn electrical gremlins.....

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

The only time I've had cruise control drop out is if I hydroplane at all. It happened this morning in fact.

terrible experience at the dealership this morning. i had to file a report with nissan usa. hopefully they will take care of it.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

What went down?

The service manager and mechanics both failed to listen to what I had to say. They spent the whole day working on my truck and were able to tell me nothing at the end of the day but still charged me. It will be an interesting day for the service dep't tomorrow. Nissan usa and the general manager of the dealer both know of their behavior now. Posted via Mobile Device

Warhammer- According to the service manual that means either the engine coolant temperature is higher than normal (slow blink) or a malfunction in the cruise control system (fast blink). -njjoe

Thanks Njjoe! Reliable as usual... Which section did you find that information?

You learn something new everyday. You might want to check your coolant level.

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

So when my coolant temp gauge was sky high last summer but my cruise control light was not flashing, does that mean my gauge was wrong?

zebelkhan said: So when my coolant temp gauge was sky high last summer but my cruise control light was not flashing, does that mean my gauge was wrong? Click to expand...
Corin said: WTF? Leave it to Nissan to figure out that warning. "Hmmmm.... What can we do to alert the driver if the temperature is too high?" "Well, we could just flash the cruise control set light..." "Hey, that makes sense! Yeah, let's do that! That should be obvious to EVERYONE!" Click to expand...

I believe it was a fast blink. We'll see if it continues. Is the ASCD part of the ECU? I'm having difficulty finding a good picture of its location. It looks to me like the ASCD system consists of the ECU (brains), steering wheel switches, brake switch, and a speed monitor. So if something were wrong with the system, it could be any one of the switches or the ECU itself.

I had this same problem and I replaced the controls on the steering wheel and it corrected the problem and it only took about 30 min to do.

I have the same problem on my 2005 Murano. I noticed that most the time when I turn on my cruise control "SET" is blinking. I am going to try and replace the cruise control switch. Eclipse1825, you mentioned it took about 30 minutes, do you have any pictures or information on this process? Thanks!

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

I know this is an old thread but i am having this issue on my 06, i know its not the coolant temp since the gauge is at normal and im only driving 15 miles at 60mph on my commute home, plus its a fast blinking of the SET light so its something to do with the Cruise control system....does anyone have any additional insight, i have an extended warranty through Nissan and searched for ASCD and all the components seem to be covered i just dont know if it means it will cover the steering controls or just the main system Thanks

Last time this happened to me I was getting onto the highway and was already cruising at 70MPH. I usually get up to speed then set my cruise control on my MO. When I turned on the cruise control, I noticed the SET light flashing. So...I flipped the CVT into neutral, shut down the engine, waited about 3 seconds, turned on the motor, then engaged the CVT into drive. After that I did not have any issues to date. I did notice that it seemed like a momentary failure; i.e. would go away if I turned off and restarted the engine. It only happened to me a few times and I haven't seen it since. I'm thinking the ECM got into a funky state or something and threw the flashing SET light. Other than that...I have absolutely no clue what causes it.

Warhammer said: ...So...I flipped the CVT into neutral, shut down the engine, waited about 3 seconds, turned on the motor, then engaged the CVT into drive... Click to expand...

Another possible fix for flashing "set" light... While out for a drive yesterday, I noticed that after one of my stops (cruise control had been working normally to that point) that I was getting the "quick" flashing of the cruise control "set" light on my '07 Murano when I tried to activate cruise. Restarting the engine at the next couple of stops didn't clear the problem, so I drove home and figured I'd take it to the dealer (I have the Nissan Gold extended warranty). But, after reading the posts here and inspecting for any debris or other obvious problems under the vehicle, I figured I'd try one more thing first. I disconnected the negative battery terminal for maybe 60 seconds, then reconnected. After resetting my radio stations and other preferences that were lost, I took a little drive and the cruise was working just fine. I'll have to keep my eyes open for any further problems... but it might be that the electronics just got a bit stupid and needed a "reboot". Dan

I know this is an old thread, however it's a new problem for my 07 Murano. I tried Good ol Dan reboot to no success. I have no MIL light but still checked for any codes and came up empty. I found that the blinking SET light occurs after application of the brake pedal. I have operated the cruise using the speed control switches on the right side of the steering wheel. I have been able to set the cruise speed, cancel the cruise and re-establish a new speed with those controls. I'm able to accelerate the speed using the Accel switch, I can shutoff the cruise turn it back on and set a new speed without any disruption or blinking SET light. The only time I seem to get the blinking SET light is after stepping on the brake and trying to resume my selected speed with the Resume switch or the SET switch. OBD II Code P1564 calls out the ASCD Steering Switch, however I don't have a MIL light illuminated. If anyone has an update or solution for this problem I welcome your response. Thanks in advance.

Fixed. Removed and replaced the clock spring, aka spiral cable.

Say what? You replaced what. I have this same intermittent problem...

Cruise Control "blinking SET"

2008 nissan frontier cruise control set light blinking

  • Add to quote

All - I tried to put on my cruise control this evening and it would not turn on. The SET light was blinking. I could turn cruise on and off but when it was on the SET would just sit and blink. I tried to reset the ECU with no luck. This was usually pretty easy in the past. I did it probably 10x before giving up. No other warning lights though - just no cruise. It worked earlier today with no issues. Nothing has changed.

Sorry, dbl. posted

I had the same thing happen to me, never did try and reset the ECU though. I believe someone else had this problem in another thread, the dealership replaced the steering wheel switch to fix it. I'm about to go through the same process so I will share my research: Here's the other thread: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-faq-howto-area/59558-cruise-set-light-flashing.html?highlight=cruise+control Find out if it is actually the switch, there is a troubleshooting tree in the engine control service manual that you can use a voltmeter on. You have to register to d/l. http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowledgebase/links/38 Pulling the wheel and installing a new switch. This thread is actually for installing new switches, but it should be the same "http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-parts-accessories/35187-adding-steering-wheel-audio-controls.html?highlight=Elbo+Audio+Controls" You will need part #4 from this page: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=214027&chapter=ARF3630&appSectionid=2575&groupid=51862&subgroupid=4793&componentid=67409&make=25&model=Armada&year=2005&graphicID=3630230&callout=4&catalogid=2 Hope this helps, post if you fix it before I do, I hope this is the solution. I also heard some talk about cleaning the contacts on the switch, but it seems like a lot of work to get to those contacts.

Check to see if you have a brake light out.

Someone had this problem on CT a few days ago. I've experienced the blinking set light myself a few times. RBsTitan suggested, " Its likely a wheel sensor issue. When I swapped to a 3.36 from a 2.94 same thing happened. THe ECU has set limits on the sensor speeds or what it thinks are safe sensor speeds based upon its programming. I'd check with cipher to see how far off the two speed sensors are. Dealer can do the same with Consult as mine read 8-10mph off at 50mph ." Anyhow, it hasn't happened to me in a while. But every time I restart my truck the problem disappears. Trace

Well I got the reset to work this morning - maybe the truck has to be cold to do it? No luck between that and checking to see if I had a brake lamp out. Called the dealership and it's going in on Monday morning. Upon further inspection this morning the Cruise button has more of a tacky feel to it when it's pressed.

***UPDATE*** Brought it into the dealership this morning - they hooked it up to the computer and the code said "Bad/sticking switch on the steering wheel." They unstuck it for temp and it'll be four days to get the other parts in. Looks like a pretty simple fix. They also saw the recall for the air conditioning part and are ordering that and replacing it at the same time too.
