I spoke with Harry Little at Affordable Tours. He definitely needs additional training in respectfulness, common courtesy and professionalism. I called after ending my phone conversation with him to escalate my concerns and dismay. I spoke with Naomi in customer service.....Now I completely understand why Harry Little lacked professionalism because that was exactly the same type of response I got from Naomi when I tried to share with her the concerns and my complaint with Harry. I did record the conversation with Naomi and I Im glad I did. I am looking forward to speaking with her supervisor, boss, or even the owner of affordable tours to listen to that particular conversation. It may be a waste of time if rudeness is the culture of this organization. I was able to book my cruise at a much lower price with a different travel agent than what they quoted me and I am now going on a cruise that I will surely enjoy. I will be sending Royal Caribbean not only my concerns but also I will allow them to listen to the type of service I received from Naomi . I am very very disappointed and would recommend that you to look at other travel agents before settling with Affordable Tours. My son is a prominent local celebrity and has thousands upon thousands of followers. I will make sure he adds this to his social media. What has happened to good customer Service these Days? The Wife and I walked into this place while walking back to our hotel after we finished eating lunch and Im glad we did. We were greeted by Lee , the sweetest little lady that was not only very informative but also very personable. She shared her life story how she came from her country to Oahu on spring break to party and loved the island and never left, even leaving her boyfriend behind. Great story! She had us laughing and even exchanged personal phone numbers. My wife emailed her a picture of us and she put it on her wall behind her. Lee told us what packages were a rip off and what packages were worth the money. We ended up booking the Stars and Stripes package. She saved us money by telling us other sight seeing spots without needing a guide and that way we won't be rushed with a group either. This lady actually cares about making you happy because she wants you to be a repeat customer not just take your money and never see you again. This business does close early so check their hours. There is some free parking on street but if you cannot find free there is a lot nearby that you can pay by the hour. I really recommend this business and look forward to her visiting us here on the mainland or us visiting her there. Prices are not the cheapest but experience was well worth it and the peace of mind was priceless, unlike buying from vendors on street that WILL rip you off.

Booking Pearl Harbor and Water Activities Packages

I met lee few years back 2001, 2006 bought all our Hawaiian activities/tours from her and was delighted that I did. last year 2018 after 12 years my boyfriend and I was looking for last minute activity around the island and I remember affordable Tours that time I don't even know the name of it but all I remembered was the location and how lee has helped me with my prior visits. So to make the story short we made it met with her and this time told her the story that I recognize and appreciate her for all the years of helping tourists get a good deal and enjoy the most of the Hawaiian activities with the money they spend. I will recommend this business again and again. Btw the luau at the paradise cove was fun! Thanks for squeezing us on our last night in town.

Affordable Tours March 2018

Upon arriving to Honolulu airport Budget rental car, the kind lady at the counter recommended this place and it sure was a great deal ! For $89/person... we were able to get the following 1) Bus will pick you up from hotel and take you to Waianae Bay 2) Board the Boat and travel approx 15 min to where the spinner dolphins are located. 3) Snorkel at the Bay in 2 locations with a professional diver 4) All inclusive Lunch ( Huge Hawaiian Burger, with drinks and fruits) 5) Great views all around Staff was wonderful and friendly. They also take pictures for purchase as well while you are in the water and also on the boat. Great experience and very affordable. Will last the whole day (7am to 4pm) so bring alot of sunscreen.

This place is a joke. What is advertised on the website as far as pricing is concerned is false. Made the mistake of actually visiting and was told those were old prices, this is what it costs now( about 3 x what was advertised.) Not helpful at all. Do yourself a favour and look at Expedia etc. to find the best deals.

We found this place in the "This Week Oahu" booklet (check for operating hours). We came here a few times to book our tours. Very tiny shoebox office space, but the staff is friendly and very helpful. Also, has very good prices on most attractions. Everything will be explained to you. Check out the nearby Crystal Bubble (also, small space) and get the coconut smoothie.

Second time booking with Li & Affordable Tours. I have to say...we've never been steered wrongly. From the beautiful Makha Valley Ranch for horseback riding (no longer available) to a tour of Pearl Harbor/Honolulu...tell them your budget & what you want to do & they will find you something suited to you. I don't do tacky luau's so they sold me nothing...I needed a day tour for my elderly & challenged parent...they found it! STAY AWAY from those street vendors with offers too good to be true...they are timeshare scams! Go directly to Affordable Tours!

We had called to see if there were still places available and got curtly told we had to come over there. So we went, slightly offended, and got greeted with so much enthousiasm. Turns out she was just busy with other costumers. We got the sunset cruise and the stars and stripes tours (pearl harbor and punchbowl). It was only half an hour until the cruise but she still got us on there and we were in luck for the stars and stripes as there had just been a cancellation. Enjoyed both tours very much. Cousin Vi (pronounced V) was an awesome bus driver/tour guide for the pearl harbor tour. Definitely recommended.

Affordable tours has a price match guarantee except for 3 businesses that they cannot match. The guarantee says no fine print, no legal mumbo jumbo. They will match and give you $50 Amex card. They do neither and because they did not even tell me they could not match the quote Pavlus travel sent me I missed out on getting the flights quoted with the transfers included. If you look at the web site guarantee what happened to me should not have happened. It is a scam!

Best Oahu Island Luaus

You can’t visit Hawaii without an authentic Hawaiian Celebration! Traditional dancing, as well as food, are a great way to experience an authentic Hawaiian Luau. Every Hawaiian Luau is different but is based on the same traditions.

Good food is a must for a Luau. Typically you will see things like Kalua Pua (roasted pig), Haupia (a desert food), and Hawaiian sweet bread (among other traditional foods). Since a Luau is one of many traditional Oahu activities, it only makes sense that the food is prepared traditionally. 

Using an Imu (an underground oven) to cook some of the food is a fun touch for visitors to experience. Not to mention the entertainment. Hula dancing is a beautiful show to enjoy with all of that food.

Who doesn’t love these incredibly fun and beautifully playful creatures? Dolphins are a part of the stunning marine life that calls Oahu home. Sharing their beauty and magnificence with visitors has been a long-time tradition for native Hawaii.

If you have, then you know just how amazing it truly feels to swim with stunning sea creatures and to see them in their natural habitat. When snorkeling with sea turtles it is important to follow whatever rules that the guide gives you in order to keep these gentle giants safe and relaxed. Be sure to stop and relax.  After all, chances are you have traveled a long way to be here!  Lay out your towel, choose your favorite book, grab a cool drink, remember your sun protection and bathing suit, and most importantly leave behind your worldly worries - you are all set for a relaxing afternoon.  Then as the heat of the sun fades, catch the sunset.  It’s a tradition on Waikiki Beach, at sunset - when time seems to slow down or stop altogether - that everybody is focused on one thing.  Catching the last of the sun’s rays as the light of the day dips behind the horizon is a great time to enjoy a sunset cocktail or mai-tai at one of the beachside bars or restaurants. Do yourself a favor and experience that magical Hawaiian sunset moment that you traveled so far to soak into your bones.

Take some surf lessons while on Waikiki

Surf Lessons Waikiki

This is a must do, no matter your age or ocean experience.  Just do it!  The ocean at Waikiki Beach is generally calm with smooth, rolling waves that are perfect to learn on.  Learning to surf Waikiki is a fun and unique experience, and most surf activity companies offer a variety of surf lessons for all skill levels.  There is nothing more satisfying than standing up on your very first wave, or for more experienced surfers, taking advantage of the relaxing, long rides that Waikiki waves offer.  Outrigger canoe rides are also a fun and worthwhile experience.  It is because of the excellent surfing conditions in Waikiki that surfing legends like the famous Duke Kahanamoku (check out his statue) used Waikiki as a personal surfing playground – and you can too.

Luaus in Waikiki

No Oahu vacation is really complete without attending a Hawaiian Luau, which is the Hawaiian word that describes a traditional Hawaiian party or feast, usually accompanied by entertainment.  Luau parties were first created during the reign of King Kamehameha II.  During a luau you will be fabulously entertained with authentic Hawaiian music, skilled hula performers, fire dancers and Hawaiian style cuisine.  Dine on Kalua pig cooked in an Imu (earth oven), Poi (Taro), Poke (Tuna) and delicious Haupia (coconut pudding).  There are many luau venues in Waikiki and each one brings something unique – this is a not to be missed experience.

Waikiki Restaurants

Dining in Waikiki is a food connoisseurs dream.  With an abundance of international as well as Pacific Rim fare, Waikiki restaurants cater for every taste.  Hawaii regional cuisine is a culinary movement that combines fresh, local ingredients with the cooking methods and flavors of the world.  From fine dining options in gorgeous locations fronting the famous Waikiki Beach, to your favorite national restaurants, Waikiki has it all.

Waikiki Shopping

The bustling hub of Waikiki features a wide variety of world-class shopping, including designer boutiques, high-end shops, colorful souvenir stores.  Kalakaua Avenue, known as “Luxury Row,” offers one of the finest collections of luxury brands (such as Yves Saint Lauren, Gucci, Hugo Boss) and is right up there with some of the world’s great shopping districts – think Oxford Street or Rodeo Drive.  The Royal Hawaiian Center boasts everything from designer apparel to surf shops and jewelry stores.  The Ala Moana Center is located just a short drive from Waikiki and is Hawaii’s largest and most varied shopping destination with 230 stores and restaurants, as well as entertainment and an international food court.  Incidentally, Ala Moana is the largest open-air shopping center in the world.  The International Marketplace is currently undergoing a complete revitalization, is scheduled to open in spring 2016, and will feature an open-air shopping experience with unique landscaping. 

Waikiki Nightlife

As the sun sets at the popular beach playground, Waikiki really comes alive, and evening entertainment is easy to find.  Throughout Waikiki, there are endless fine dining and live music options at the many resorts and hotels every night of the week.  There are a number of popular bars fronting Waikiki Beach, and various nightclubs in Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu, including some great options in Chinatown (including underground bars for the more adventurous).  The streets can be abuzz with activity on the First Friday – a festive evening where local artists share their work.  Catering for every taste from jazz and traditional Hawaiian music performances to upbeat DJ dance music – there is something for everyone in the lively Oahu music scene.  It is best to check with your concierge daily for the latest info on what’s hip and happening.

Honolulu Zoo

The Honolulu Zoo , located between the slopes of Diamond Head and Waikiki is home to 905 species of animals from various tropical ecosystems, including numerous endangered species housed in uniquely designed habitats.  There is a strong focus on education and environmental awareness, with many interesting programs such as an Orangutan Outreach Program.  There is a lot to see at the Zoo, so be sure to bring a packed lunch, sun protection, and good walking shoes.  Open 9am-4.30pm daily (except Christmas Day).

Waikiki Aquarium

The Waikiki Aquarium is located right near the Honolulu Zoo and is the second oldest aquarium in the United States, exhibiting over 3,500 organisms including living coral, reef sharks, and Giant Clams.  The Aquarium features a special Green Sea Turtle exhibit, where young turtles are fed a high-fat diet and then released into the wild, as well as housing two Hawaiian Monk Seals – another endangered species.  Allow a couple of hours for the full experience.  Open 9am-4.30pm daily (except Christmas Day).

Hike up Diamond Head

Diamond Head

This is Oahu’s (and perhaps Hawaii’s) most famous landmark – the iconic volcanic crater that stands majestically over Waikiki.  Diamond Head got its name from the glistening calcite crystals that early sailors thought were diamonds.  The summit has always been used for navigation – from ancient times when fires were lit to help guide canoes to more recent wartime when the area was used as a fortification during WWII.  The panoramic views of Oahu’s southeastern coastline from the summit -  are stunning, and well worth the 0.8 miles, 560-foot climb from the crater floor.  The trail can be uneven so good footwear is advised.   It is very exposed and dry so take plenty of water with you.  There is a lovely picnic area, as well as bathrooms and a shave ice truck during opening hours, which are, 6 am – 6 pm daily.

Cruising the calm waters of Mamala Bay and enjoying the beautiful sunsets that only Hawaii can offer is a great way to spend an afternoon in Waikiki.  Escape the crowds, the hustle, and bustle of the traffic and shops, and relax with a Mai Tai to the sound of lapping waves in the gentle breeze.  Most companies offer the option to snorkel with green sea turtles also.   

However you choose to experience Waikiki, you will not be disappointed.  There is so much to see and do, you will inevitably want to stay longer at this multicultural and colorful beach playground.

Honolulu Hawaii Experience 7D/6N

I had a great time in Honolulu. The accommodation was good, rooms were basic but clean. The 4 day trips (mornings, latest return was 2.30pm) were really good, although some left pretty early which meant missing the included breakfast (good pancakes but no other options) 3 out of 6 days. Also worth noting that the Ocean Voyage tour at Kualoa Ranch (beautiful place and really good!) pick up was at 7.15am at a hotel 40mins walk away at the other end of town, then bus back wasn't til 1pm. Long day for a 45min boat ride so might be worth looking into other activities there too. Overall everything went according to plan and I had a great time, but as expected this would be a good bit cheaper to book everything yourself.

Honolulu Hawaii Experience 4D/3N

Bamba Travel was the only tour operator which responded and agreed to help me plan my tour in Hawaii. Although I would have liked a more thoroughly organised tour like pick up from the cruise terminal and transport to the Kualoa ranch organised, I had to take the public bus by myself. It was a bit daunting but Bamba gave me some instructions. At Hawaii it quite easy and safe to take public transport during the day. Bamba was helpful at every step. A bit slow with regards to correspondence bec of time differences as they are in the USA but they would respond daily. Thank you Bamba for helping me organise a tailored plan to meet most of my needs. I had a great time in Hawaii.

Downtown Honolulu brings you to the largest city in Hawaii, a place where high-rise hotels and resorts line city blocks. Creating the stunning backdrop for Waikiki Beach is the majestic Diamond Head Crater.

In the central corridor of Oahu is Pearl Harbor Naval Base. Dedicated monuments and visitor sites offer in-depth World War II historical perspectives and memorials, including the USS Battleship Missouri Memorial. Between two verdant valleys in the heart of Oahu's agricultural land is the famous Dole Plantation. Roam the plantation shrub maze and cool down with a Dole whip while soaking in views of endless pineapple fields. It's a fun stop along the way towards the North Shore.

The North Shore of Hawaii is home to giant waves and daring surfers. Seven miles of coastline play host to surfing competitions including the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The ideal time to view these giants is between November and February when waves swell upwards of 30 feet. Remember to leave the surfing to the professionals as these dangerous conditions can be life-threatening.

The whole experience was great ! I did have a couple of questions before we went ...so I called the tour phone number and she too was also helpful ..super service from beginning to end . Yes there are lockers to rent of different sizes too so you can leave your stuff and enjoy yourselves ! This new adults-only hotel in Waikiki is cute, affordable and near all the action

A slew of exciting new hotels have been popping up in Honolulu — and starting June 1, there will be a new lifestyle hotel in the heart of one the city's most vibrant neighborhoods.

Here's a first look at Romer House Waikiki .

An adults-only hotel, this Romer House output is a love letter to Waikiki with modern touches and midcentury design.

Across the 179 rooms, guests are supposed to feel like they're stepping into their own Hawaiian apartment-inspired space, with lots of textures, wooden accents, local photography on the walls and in-room amenities like coffee, a kettle and a minifridge.

In some rooms, you can even have your own private lanai to step outside and breathe in the salty ocean air.

The rooms aren't the only place you'll find great art; throughout the hotel is an entire collection of local art dedicated to the beauty of Hawaii and its islands, people and culture. Be on the lookout for pieces from surf photographer Arto Saari, murals by Matías Solario and Cory Kamehanaokala, and more throughout the hotel.

For fun, head to The Backyard pool and bar to lounge in a chair to work on your tan, enjoy a swim in the heated wading pool or snack on Japanese-Hawaiian food and cocktails (think: katsu sandwiches or bento boxes with canned sake). Come for the food, but stay for wellness classes on the pool deck.

You can also grab food and drinks at Izakaya 855-Aloha from chef Shotaro "Sho" Kamio. A spot designed to stay open late, Romer's izakaya will also combine flavors and cooking techniques of Japan and Hawaii and feature shareable dishes like Tokyo hot chicken, takoyaki, tempura and a strong selection of Japanese whiskys and sakes.

And then there's House Bar & Cafe, an all-day eatery with — you guessed it — Japanese-Hawaiian breakfast and lunch, including options that are perfect to take away. At night, the space transforms into a laid-back bar scene where you can have a midnight snack and a nightcap.

Every stay at Romer House Waikiki includes a dedicated "Aloha Line" phone number that guests can text or call to help navigate nearby activities or score exclusive perks at neighborhood businesses (hint: your keycard can help you score discounts!). To get out, the hotel offers free bike rentals, and there's even a boutique on the property with artisanal goods just in case you don't find the right souvenir while exploring out and about.

Best of all, Romer House Waikiki has plenty of ways to help support the local community and the beautiful island through contributions to the Genki Ala Wai Project and the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative.

While Romer House Waikiki isn't part of a loyalty program, it does offer a great deal on cash rates. For now, opening rates start at $195 per night, which is a great price for one of the most famous neighborhoods in the world.

Searching for the safest places to travel? Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) recently unveiled its annual State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report , which ranks the world’s 15 safest cities to travel. This year, two U.S. cities made the list, with Honolulu named the safest city in the world.

“BHTP’s State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report is unique in its ability to pair firsthand, survey respondent experiences with valuable third-party sources in order to identify its annual list of Safest Destinations,” Carol Mueller, vice president at BHTP told me in an interview. “Only travelers who have actually been to the cities are allowed to rank them on a variety of safety measures, using their first-hand knowledge as a yardstick.”

In addition to surveying actual travelers who have visited the cities, BHTP analyzes several third-party data sources—including the U.S. State Department, The Economist and more—to evaluate safety concerns such as terrorism, weather emergencies, health measures and the safety of underrepresented groups.

Over the past four years, the report has witnessed notable changes, reflecting the evolving travel landscape. While Scandinavian nations and Northern Europe traditionally dominated the list, this year’s report showcases a diverse lineup, with Asian and South American cities making their mark.

For 2024, Honolulu claims the coveted first spot. Despite its vulnerability to natural disasters, Honolulu impresses travelers with its overall safety, making it an ideal travel destination. “Even Honolulu’s lowest marks are the highest of any destination in that category,” says Mueller. “Though the island’s volcanic origin and location in the Pacific make it an obvious target for a variety of natural disasters, from wildfires to typhoons, surveyed travelers perceive Honolulu as an incredibly safe destination for their tropical vacations.”

Coming in second on the list is Montreal. The Canadian city is recognized—above all—for its transportation safety, where it gets the highest marks. One concern, according to BHTP: wildfires, since smoke from fires in northern Quebec can drift down to Montreal, impacting the air quality.

Reykjavik, Iceland comes in number three on the list of safest cities. According to BHTP, its high ranking is due to its excellent scores for women, people-of-color and LGBTQ+ safety, as well as safety from terrorism.

Rounding out the top five is Sydney, Australia (which receives consistent safety marks from travelers) and Amsterdam in the Netherlands (which ranks highly for safety for women, LGBTQ+ travelers and people of color).

The only other U.S. city on the list of world’s safest cities is Orlando, Florida, which comes in at number 15. Renowned for its theme parks and family-friendly attractions, Orlando gets high ratings for transportation safety and safety against terrorism. “While we’d caution travelers against chasing golf balls near Lake Jesup, which is home to about 10,000 alligators, Orlando has high ratings for transportation safety and safety against terrorism,” says Mueller. “This should come as no surprise—you rarely hear about disasters aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad.”

As travelers navigate the intricacies of safety, the report also offers insights into each city’s unique challenges and precautions. From concerns about wildfires in Honolulu to political demonstrations in Barcelona, travelers can make informed decisions to ensure their safety during their journeys.

Beyond the overall rankings, the report also ranks cities according to the nuanced safety concerns of different traveler segments, from millennials to LGBTQ+ travelers prioritizing inclusive destinations.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
