Disney Cruise Ship Stern Characters

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever wondered what characters are on the back of the Disney Cruise Ships? The Disney Cruise Ship stern characters are all unique to each of the individual cruise ships.

The stern character is usually one of the first things which Disney releases details about and concept art for, when they announce a new ship.

The stern character is just another way in which the Disney ships are just that little bit different from other cruise lines. The concept of all of the stern characters on the Disney ships is that they are finishing the paint on the artwork on the stern. Each design cleverly reflects the different personalities of the characters.

So what are the different stern characters on each Disney Cruise Ship? Learn what characters are on the back of the Disney Cruise Ships.

Disney Wish Stern Character

disneywishsterncharacter

One of the first news of any kind about the design of the Disney Wish was that her stern character will be Rapunzel from the movie Tangled.

The design cleverly incorporates Rapunzel’s magically long hair into the design. Her ever-trusty chameleon is there with her to hold her paint palette.

Obviously, we know what a talented artist Rapunzel is from the Tangled Movie.

It is fun to speculate about how else Rapunzel will feature in the decor and theme of the new Disney Wish. The Disney Magic now has a Tangled-themed restaurant – Rapunzel’s Royal Table.

It seems likely that Disney Wish will have a Disney Princess-themed restaurant. Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder and Rapunzel’s Royal Table have proved to be very popular.

However, as there is already a Rapunzel-themed restaurant on the Disney Magic, perhaps the Wish will have a different Princess. Maybe even a Frozen theme?

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ships Stern Character

The adorable figure of Dumbo is shown holding the paint pot in his trunk.

Fantastical Holidays

The lobby atrium figure on Disney Fantasy is Minnie Mouse.

This delightful Minnie Mouse statue is inspired, just like the design of the Disney Cruise ships, by the travel of the 1920s and 1930s.

Disney Wish’s maiden voyage will be July 14, 2022.

It will be a special five-night sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida . It will include two days at sea, plus stops at Nassau (Bahamas) and Castaway Cay .

January 2022 was the original expected date of the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish cruise ship. Then, early June 2022 was the target for sailing after some delays at Meyer-Werft shipyard in Germany. Currently the Disney Wish is now scheduled to set sail in July 2022.

Disney Wish is the newest vessel in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It joins its sister ships, Disney Fantasy , Disney Dream, Disney Magic, and Disney Wonder as the fifth Disney cruise ship. In 2016, Disney announced it would be building two new ships and then, one year later, one MORE ship was announced, bringing the planned total of new cruise ships to three. The Disney Wish is the first of those three new ocean vessels .

The Disney Wish was completed in 2022 and arrived in Port Canaveral, Florida, in June 2022.

Originally planned to be completed and delivered in late 2021, the global travel industry disruptions of 2020 delayed the original schedule for completion of the Disney Wish.

Disney then announced the Wish would sail in June 2022 but that was pushed back by 6 weeks due to construction delays at the shipyard.

The Disney Wish maiden voyage is taking place in July 2022.

Disney Wish as originally expected to make her inaugural sailing in January 2022. However, due to pandemic-related delays of the construction of ship, the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish is now scheduled for July 14, 2022.

On the bow of the ship, Captain Minnie Mouse is showcased.

Minnie Mouse will be featured on the bow of the Disney Wish cruise ship.

The exterior of the ship features Rapunzel (from Tangled ) as she dangles from the stern.

The new Disney Cruise ship is the Disney Wish! It features Rapunzel on the stern.

The interior of the ship was originally expected to continue the tradition of the existing ships in sporting an Art Deco or Art Noveau style. Disney Imagineers stated they want the insides of Disney’s ships to reflect “the golden age of ocean cruising.”

The look of the atrium is something of a departure from Art Deco or Art Noveau.

The atrium is three-stories, with a bright and airy décor intended to reflect the “beauty of an enchanted fairytale.”

The Grand Hall is billed as Disney’s “Castle on the Sea”. When cruisers step foot on board the Wish, they are met with a full enchantment motif, built to conjure visions of a fairytale castle.

Chandelier in atrium of Disney Wish

The chandelier is a centerpiece for special effects, dramatic show lighting, and shimmers and even showers pixie dust upon those that gaze upon it.

The chandelier is built to represent the movement that is witnessed in the movie Cinderella at the moment that Cinderella’s dress is transformed from drab attire into a glorious gown.

Disney Wish chandelier is built to look like Cinderella gown transformation from the Disney movie Cinderella.

Who built the new Disney Wish?

Disney Cruise Line contracted with reputable German shipbuilding company Meyer Werft to build the three newest ship, including the Disney Wish. Meyer Werft were also the builders of Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream .

Meyer Werft officially turned the ship over to Disney Cruise Line on June 9, 2022, at which point the Wish set sail for Port Canaveral and arrived in port there before dawn on June 20, 2022.

How is the Disney Wish fueled?

The Wish is fueled by liquefied natural gas.

DCL has stated that LNG “is one of the cleanest-burning fuels available,” making the Disney Wish a more efficient and eco-friendly method of providing cruise vacations.

By moving to natural gas propulsion instead of oil-based fuel, cruise ships are able to reduce emissions of sulphur, nitrogen oxide and other chemicals.

The food stalls are themed to match a popular Disney animated film like Zootopia or Alice in Wonderland. Will we be greeted by our favorite characters while we are dining??

Disney adds some credence to that rumor by saying:

This fun design twist presents favorite characters as honorary “shopkeepers,” offering a wide-ranging variety of freshly prepared cuisines for the whole family to enjoy, including American classics, international specialties, comfort foods, seafood, soups and salads, vegetarian and plant-based fare, baked goods, and desserts. – Disney Parks Blog

First announced back in 2016, the Disney Wish was officially announced in 2019. It first set sail on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on July 14, 2022, cruising through the Caribbean with stops in Nassau and Castaway Cay.

As the first Triton class ship added to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Wish is a truly special vessel. The ship weighs 140,000 tons and offers enough room for 2,500 guests on board. That’s larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy – but the Disney Wish features the same number of staterooms, offering the perk of increased space for guests.

On the stern of the Disney Wish, you’ll find Rapunzel and Pascal. But there’s another special character at the heart of this particular Disney Cruise Line ship: Minnie Mouse. During the keel laying ceremony for the Wish, it was revealed that Captain Minnie was on the specially-minted coin made for the keel and the ship’s bow artwork. Captain Minnie is also at the helm for each sailing (so keep an eye out for her while you’re on board!).

Inside the Grand Hall, where you’ll be welcomed aboard the Disney Wish, you’ll find a life-size Cinderella statue waiting. As you step further into the ship, you’ll find there are 14 decks to explore, with everything from staterooms to restaurants to entertainment venues to pools and recreation areas spread across them. Learn more about all of the exciting offerings below!

Where Does the Disney Wish Sail?

The Disney Wish is based out of Port Canaveral, the home port of Disney Cruise Line. From Port Canaveral, the Wish embarks on three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. Every sailing includes a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island available exclusively for those who sail on Disney Cruise Line ships.

Staterooms on the Disney Wish

Disney Wish stateroom

There are 1,250 staterooms aboard the Disney Wish – and there’s a whopping 11 different types of staterooms to choose from. You’ll have plenty of options, whether you’re looking for a luxurious two-story stateroom or a smaller interior stateroom that’s solely for resting at night. Best of all, there’s a unique perk to the Wish’s staterooms: the staterooms are more spacious than those on other Disney Cruise Line ships .

Additionally, the Wish offers a wide selection of staterooms with an ocean view; in fact, most rooms on board offer a view of the sparkling sea! Here’s a look at the different types of staterooms you can book.

Inside Staterooms

On the Disney Wish, you’ll have one inside stateroom option: a Standard Inside Stateroom . There is no exterior or ocean view to be found in these rooms, but they do sleep up to four adults in total.

Oceanview Staterooms

When you opt for an oceanview stateroom, you’ll enjoy similar room sizing and layouts as inside staterooms. Each Oceanview Stateroom includes a large porthole that looks out onto the open ocean as you cruise. You can opt for either a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom or a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom , depending on how many people you’re traveling with. While a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom sleeps up to four adults, a Family version can sleep up to five.

Verandah Staterooms

If you’re hoping to spend some time taking in the ocean air on a private deck of your own, a stateroom with a verandah is the perfect choice. Verandah staterooms include a private verandah just for your cruising party. You have two choices on the Disney Wish: either a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah or a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah . These staterooms sleep four and five adults, respectively.

Concierge staterooms.

If you’re looking for a stateroom that offers an elevated cruise experience, concierge-level rooms offer exactly that. On Disney Cruise Line ships – including the Wish – concierge staterooms are similar to club-level rooms at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. These rooms come with a higher price, but you’ll get more personalized service, special access to a lounge, and other perks not available with a typical stateroom.

When it comes to accommodations and options, there are six types of concierge staterooms :

  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah
  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom
  • Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah (or Extended Verandah)
  • Concierge 1-Story Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 2-Story Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge Wish Tower Suite

Each one of these concierge stateroom types offers a different layout and room for a variety of group or family sizes. Three of them – the Concierge Family Oceanview, Concierge Family Oceanview with Verandah, and Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite – can sleep up to five adults. Concierge 1-Story Royal Suites and Concierge 2-Story Royal Suites can sleep up to six, while the Concierge Wish Tower Suite has enough room for eight.

Dining on the Disney Wish

Disney Wish Worlds of Marvel dining

You’ll find a whole host of dining options on the Wish, whether you’re searching for a midday meal, a quick snack, or something to satisfy your sweet tooth. With formal dining options as well as a buffet, room service, and grab-and-go casual choices, there’s something for every taste and every day of your sailing.

Like all other Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Wish offers rotational dining for dinners. This allows you to try each of the main restaurants onboard during your sailing, though you can choose to skip a night or two of rotational dining and secure a reservation at a different restaurant not included with your sailing instead (at an additional cost). Here’s a look at all of the dinner options on the Wish :

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure
  • Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement (reservations required)
  • Palo Steakhouse (reservations required)
  • Worlds of Marvel

Beyond rotational dining – and meals other than dinner – you can also grab a bite at these casual restaurants :

  • Inside Out: Joyful Sweets
  • Marceline Market
  • Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods
  • Wheezy’s Freezies

Entertainment on the Disney Wish

Hero Zone on the Disney Wish

The entertainment roster onboard the Wish is filled with activities for guests of all ages. From pint-sized fun for little cruisers to adult-only spaces to shows for everyone, there’s always something to do while you’re at sea. Here’s a look at the different entertainment options you can explore during your sailing:

  • Olaf’s Royal Picnic , a character dining experience
  • Character meet and greets inside the Grand Hall
  • Visit Luna , an entertainment hub that’s home to Villains Game Night, Disney Songbook, and Uncharted Adventure
  • Catch Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular inside the Walt Disney Theater
  • Hero Zone , a sports arena and obstacle course with activities for all ages

Disney unveils new features for adults-only aboard Wish: Here's everything you need to know about Disney's newest ship

Andrea M. Rotondo

Editor's Note

You may think that Disney Cruise Line caters solely to families but the more we learn about the line's forthcoming ship, Disney Wish, the more it's clear that anyone -- even those 18+ -- can enjoy a fantastic cruise aboard the first of a trio of Triton-class vessels.

This week, Disney announced more information about the elements of Disney Wish that will be especially enticing for the adult crowd. We're talking an outdoor spa retreat, salon experiences plus bars and lounges.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's new cruise newsletter. And make sure to stay updated on all things Disney Cruise by bookmarking our hub page .

Bookings opened for summer 2022 sailings back at the end of May for Disney Wish, which is the line's newest ship in a decade.

Disney's 140,000-ton Triton-class ships, constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, are designed to run on liquefied natural gas -- a more environmentally friendly fuel. They are slightly larger than the line's existing Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy ships, but like those predecessors, Triton ships will also accommodate 4,000 passengers in roughly 1,250 staterooms and suites.

The first Disney Wish journey will set sail from Florida's Port Canaveral on June 9, 2022, for the Bahamas, including a stop at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay.

For anyone looking to book a stateroom on one of Disney Wish's sailings next summer or fall, after school resumes, the most affordable option for a family of four runs about $3,200 for the least expensive accommodations. Most summer dates (while school is out) start around $4,500 for a family of four, with veranda rooms coming in about $300 higher than the cheapest available cabin on three-night itineraries.

Four-night sailings for a family of four start between $6,000 and $7,000 in summer, with savings to be had on cruises that depart in August. Those who can wait until fall will see fares from $4,000.

But, before you reserve your cabin, here's everything else we know so far about Disney Wish and the entire trio of forthcoming Disney Cruise Line ships.

Disney Wish design concept

disney wish cruise ship stern

The theme and inspiration for Disney Wish is enchantment. It's a theme that ties all Disney stories and fairytales together, and it's going to be at the heart of this new ship's experience.

Inside, guests will be greeted with the ship's three-story Grand Hall inspired by the story of Cinderella. And at the foot of the grand staircase will be Cinderella herself.

Another highlight of the Grand Hall will be a stage right in the atrium for "theatrical surprises" set to take place throughout the day. According to Disney, you can expect fairy-tale castles, forests and animals and the spirit of the sea all included in the design of the ship experience.

If the rendering of the Grand Hall is any indication, Disney Wish will be a fantastical dream brought to the high seas.

"Enchantment is about unlocking the wonder in everything we do and experience," said Laura Cabo, portfolio creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering. "For the Disney Wish, we are ... infusing every inch of this enchanted ship with more Disney stories and characters than ever before. The Disney Wish will be a place where families really do get to wish upon a star."

Fun for the adults

Yes, we're all kids at heart, but sometimes it's nice to be treated like an adult, too. Disney Wish is treating grown-ups to a number of kid-free zones on the ship.

First, there's a Quiet Cove pool area, which is reserved for guests 18 and older. You'll find an infinity pool, whirlpool spa, an open-air bar and a poolside cafe.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Adults can also relax in the Senses Spa, which is an open-air oasis. It's an extension of Disney Cruise Line's signature Rainforest experience that's been reimagined for Wish. It will include the fleet's first "ice lounge." Guests will also find heated lounges, sensory spa showers and sauna, steam and dry chambers.

Couples will want to book either a private treatment room or spa villa where they can enjoy all sorts of massages, facials and acupuncture therapies. Senses Fitness pairs with the spa to offer exercise and wellness facilities, including equipment as well as a cycle studio and aerobics space.

The Untangled Salon and barbershop (Hook's Barbery) round out the offerings.

disney wish cruise ship stern

But personally, I'm more excited about all of the dining and cocktails (available for an additional charge) at the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge. Yes, Star Wars on the high seas, and in high style, with a super-sleek cocktail bar that glides by destinations such as Batuu, Tatooine and Mustafar that you can spot out of the windows.

disney wish cruise ship stern

If Star Wars isn't your thing, there are plenty of other lounges to sample. Try Keg & Compass, a pub with architectural elements reminiscent of a late-1800s Norwegian sailor's map room.

Nightingale's is the ship's piano bar that offers Champagne, fine wine and hand-crafted cocktails.

Finally, The Bayou is New Orleans-inspired with "The Princess and the Frog" theming. Think lily pads, magnolia blossoms and twinkling fireflies. Here, you can order cocktails or specialty coffees with signature beignets.

A number of adults-only options take a cue from "Beauty and the Beast." There's Palo Steakhouse (a retread of the elegant Italian venue on other Disney cruises, this time with an added steakhouse focus) which is inspired by Cogsworth, the tale's majordomo -turned-enchanted clock; Enchanté by chef Arnaud Lallement of Michelin-star fame, which was inspired by the elegant candelabra Lumiere; and The Rose, an upscale cocktail lounge taking design inspiration from the flower at the heart of the story.

Rooms get a fairytale makeover

disney wish cruise ship stern

For the roughly 4,000 passengers who can set sail together on the ship, there will be 1,254 staterooms, 90% of which will have outside views. (Yes, just 10% will be interior rooms .)

Of those ocean-facing rooms, a whopping 70% will have verandas. Cruisers can expect more storage space, and more "compartmentalized" rooms, according to Disney, to give kids and parents a feeling of separate spaces within the stateroom.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Also on deck for Disney Wish, and a first for the cruise line, is a pair of two-story suites that will feature spiral staircases and bathrooms with freestanding soaking tubs as well as spectacular views.

Another first: Disney Cruise Line will offer seven exclusive oceanview rooms located in a prime spot just above the bridge. These rooms will have extended living areas with ocean views that can be enjoyed through floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the bow.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Of note for those who enjoy the higher level of service and amenities with the Disney Concierge Level is that this ship will have more than double the number of concierge rooms and suites as the other Disney ships. Those 76 rooms and suites will have access to an expanded concierge lounge with a full bar and a private sundeck with two whirlpools, a wading pool and other exclusive amenities.

Entertainment to rival Disney World

Disney specializes in entertainment for the whole family, so it should come as no surprise that Disney Wish will amp up the opportunities for shows and experiences.

Among the highlights: Three Broadway-style shows, including Aladdin, a Musical Journey (and two new productions that have yet to be announced); two movie theaters showing first-run films; and the aforementioned Grand Hall stage at the atrium. Disney is also bringing back its fan-favorite fireworks at sea.

disney wish cruise ship stern

There are also two family entertainment concepts that will eventually come to life: Luna, which will transform into an adult entertainment area at night, and the superhero-themed Hero Zone, where families can participate in an obstacle course and competitions.

There will also be plenty of shipboard watery fun with a new Disney aqua coaster attraction called AquaMouse. Disney says this will be its first-ever attraction at sea, which means it is sure to come in several notches above the previous ships' AquaDuck slide. The ride will include an immersive animation short called "Scuba Scramble" along with special effects, and it will "zig, zag and zoom" through 760 feet of winding tubes suspended high above the upper decks with views out over the water.

Dining with a twist

Dining on a Disney cruise is always something to get excited about, and Disney Wish is adding an array of new experiences that should please both the littlest cruisers and their parents. Guests will rotate through three highly immersive spaces (all included in the cruise rate):

disney wish cruise ship stern

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure is a "Frozen"-themed dinner theater with live entertainment space featuring Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf. Food will have Nordic influences.
  • Worlds of Marvel is being considered the first-ever "Marvel cinematic dining adventure," where guests will participate in an interactive Avengers mission (so no, your kids won't sit quietly through a meal). What's on the menu? We're told it's "Marvel-inspired dining from Wakanda to New York."
  • And in honor of the year, The Walt Disney Company was founded, 1923 is an "elegant celebration" of Disney with California-style cuisine.

As with other Disney ships, there will also be 24-hour room service, places to grab casual bites and, of course, unlimited soft-serve ice cream.

No grown-ups allowed

This is Disney, after all, so you're probably expecting great programming for kids — and parents won't be disappointed.

For children ages 3 to 12, the kids club experience starts with a deck-long slide from the Grand Hall down to the Oceaneer Lab. (There's a regular old door entrance for parents to enter the space, too.)

During the day, kids can attend the Marvel Super Hero Academy (a high-tech Avengers "headquarters" where kids can become heroes through interactive activities, and Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp pay regular visits).

There's also Fairytale Hall --- a "royal" space for creative endeavors with Rapunzel's Art Studio, Belle's Library and Anna and Elsa's Sommerhus (and yes, all of those royal princesses will make appearances).

And there's even a Walt Disney Imagineering Lab , which is considered a first-of-its-kind opportunity for kids to learn tricks from Disney Imagineers with hands-on activities and inventive experiments.

disney wish cruise ship stern

There's a separate play area for babies and toddlers (for a fee), the It's a Small World Nursery, and tweens and teens can hang out at Edge and Vibe, spaces that grant them a bit more independence.

The ship will continue the Disney Cruise Line tradition of adorning two character art pieces on the hull, giving a nod to smart and powerful women and girls everywhere.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Disney Wish's hull will feature Captain Minnie Mouse for the first time, "solidifying her pioneering place at the forefront for the fleet's future."

And Rapunzel will be the first female character to grace the stern of a Disney Cruise Line ship. "Spirited, smart, curious and above all, adventurous, Rapunzel embodies the wish and desire to see and experience the world," Disney Cruise Line said. She will appear to "decorate" the ship's exterior with Pascal the chameleon at her side.

Bound for the Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line has announced that the maiden voyage for Wish, along with the rest of the sailings in its first season, will be bound for the Bahamas, including Disney's private island Castaway Cay .

Also in the works from Disney is a potential second private-island port of call in the Bahamas. Called Lighthouse Point, on the island of Eleuthera, it will be a sister private island to Disney's Castaway Cay. However, this project will not be completed on the same timeline as the Disney Wish. In fact, it is facing some local and environmental opposition. But, assuming agreements can be reached, this island should play a major role as Disney gets ready to welcome the three Triton class ships to its fleet.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Retired iconic Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde, who designed much of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, toured the Bahamas in the summer of 2019 to meet with local artists to learn about the culture.

The result of his research trips will inform his design aesthetic for the new port of call. His time in the Bahamas also led him to Kevin Cooper, an artist from Eleuthera, and Antonius Roberts, an artist from Nassau. Both play major roles in the artistic evolution of Lighthouse Point.

Disney purchased the privately owned Lighthouse Point early in 2019 and signed an agreement with the Bahamian government that "guides the responsible and sustainable way the site will be developed."

Disney says it plans to develop less than 20% of the property and, through the Disney Conservation Fund, donated $13 million to marine conservation programs around the world -- including some in the Bahamas.

When will Disney Wish reservations open?

Disney Wish sailings are available for booking right now. It's almost always best to book a Disney cruise as soon as it goes on sale for the best prices and availability.

You can book Wish sailings directly with Disney Cruise Line or via a Disney vacation planner or travel agent.

disney wish cruise ship stern

The first sailing will be a five-night Bahamas-bound special sailing from June 9 to 14 and for the rest of the summer of 2022, the Disney Wish will alternate between three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas (Friday to Monday and Monday to Friday).

How much will a cruise on the Disney Wish cost?

Disney has not yet released prices for the first season of Disney Wish sailings. However, we can make a few educated guesses based on pricing for some similar Disney sailings on other ships.

Just before Disney Wish will set sail, the Disney Dream has a four-night sailing from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas from May 30 to June 3. Prices for that sailing currently start at just over $5,000 for an inside stateroom for a family of two adults and two children.

Staterooms with a veranda start at over $5,500 and one-bedroom suites start at over $12,000 for that similar trip. But because Disney Wish is a new vessel and those first few months of sailings come during a period of high demand during summer break, we expect Disney Wish prices to come in potentially higher than those numbers for the first few months.

As you get to more off-peak dates in the fall, it is possible that prices will come down, with the least expensive sailings being the three-night options during the traditional school calendar.

When will the other Disney ships be completed?

The sixth and seventh Disney Cruise Line ships will join the fleet later than originally announced.

The most recent timeline shared on a Disney investor call in late 2020 is that these two ships that will come after Disney Wish will now be completed in 2024 and 2025, respectively (originally 2022 and 2023). The Disney Wish also encountered a pandemic-related delay as it was originally set for completion in 2021.

Bottom line

For almost a century, Disney has given children and adults alike a sense of magic and wonder as they explore the world around them through fairy tales. Now more than ever, many are craving a bit of fairy dust and sparkle, and it's clear that's precisely what Disney is aiming for with its upcoming new ship, the Disney Wish.

Disney Wish Design Details Guests Will Gush Over on DCL

' src=

Disney Cruise Line's level of design detail is superb. When they created the fifth ship in their fleet, there was no detail overlooked. That said, Disney Wish design details were subtle until we learned more about the ship from the cast members and crew.

We'll walk you through the ship through our photos and descriptions, sharing those details with you. Because we realize knowing about them will help you appreciate the ship more, just like it did for us.

Come along as we take you through the Cinderella-inspired Grand Hall , show you how the design choices will help you navigate the ship , share information about the onboard pools (including AquaMouse and the Splash Zone), about the Disney Wish bars and cafes , the restaurants (including Enchante), and the Disney Wish art .

Disney Wish Design Details in the Atrium (or “Grand Hall”)

One of the design “heroes” of Disney Cruise Line ships is their atriums. The chandelier in the center of the atrium is always a focus; it's also the first area of the ship that guests experience as they board after check-in .

On Disney Wish, Cinderella is the theme of the “Grand Hall,” as it's called on Wish instead of “atrium.” Renderings obviously show its splendor and glittering aspects. But here are some things you may not have known…

Atrium of Disney Wish spanning three decks, called The Grand Hall, with Cinderella-inspired details.

Disney Wish Grand Hall Ceiling

The chandelier was designed to be the shape of Cinderella's ballgown…but upside down. It's said that the animation of the Fairy Godmother turning Cinderella's tattered clothes into a magnificent ballgown was Walt Disney's favorite piece of Disney animation.

The Imagineers honored this in the chandelier's design, including how the pixy dust swirled around her while her wish to go to the ball came true, which you see in the swirls of the chandelier. (Of course, this “Wish come true” as the center of the Grand Hall is not an accident!)

Around the chandelier are four stars. While at first, you may think it's for the four directions of a compass, some more thought reveals what they truly represent: the four ships that came before Disney Wish: Disney Dream, Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, and Disney Fantasy.

There's a fifth star hanging from the chandelier, which is for the Wish.

Ceiling of the Grand Hall. The Disney Wish details are apparent in the Cinderella-inspired chandelier, wishing stars and twinkling lights that span 3 decks.

Disney Wish Atrium Cinderella Sculpture

There is an icon in every atrium on every Disney Cruise Line ship. Naturally, it's a popular picture spot, and we couldn't resist a photo with Cinderella!

But did you know that there's a little surprise behind the bronze statue of Cinderella? It's LUCIFER! He is crouched behind Cinderella with his front paws holding up a cup. That's because he's trying to catch Gus and Jacques, who are peeking out from underneath the back of Cinderella's gown.

Cinderella is bronze with a gold patina, standing at 5'10”. She weighs 650 pounds, while Lucifer weighs 100.

Additionally, look for Cinderella's glass slipper in a glass case to the right of the bottom of the stairs if you're looking at the grand staircase (photo is above).

Couple posing for a photo with the bronze Cinderella sculpture on Disney Wish cruise ship in the Grand Hall.

Disney Wish Atrium Kiss Goodnight

One of the most special experiences on the ship is the “Kiss Goodnight.”

This special “show” happens at midnight (though we're convinced times vary slightly depending on the day because we saw it at 11:00 pm the first evening we were on the Wish).

The beautiful humming of the voice of Cinderella comes on the speakers in the Grand Hall, and you start to see the twinkling and sparkle of the fiberoptic lights throughout the atrium.

It's really magical! We don't want to ruin it for you, so we'll keep the rest a secret! But if you are awake late at night, be sure you see this if you're a Disney fan. It might even be worth staying up for. (It's only a few minutes – you can go to bed after!)

Disney Wish Design Details in the Carpet

If you look at the carpet that leads to the Grand Hall on Deck 5, you'll notice some hidden pictures! See if you can find Cinderella's glass slipper, a pumpkin carriage, Blue Jays, and even Gus and Jacques, which are perhaps the hardest characters to find in the custom carpet.

Pink couch and blue carpet on Deck 5 of Disney Wish.

Disney Wish Grand Hall Architectural Period Design Influences

If you're into architectural styles, it's fun to know that the Grand Hall design is inspired by three: Gothic, French Baroque, and Rococo.

Hand Painted Elements in the Grand Hall

Large Rococo-style gold flourishes are handpainted in the Grand Hall. They are underneath the grand staircase and on a half-wall leading to the Grand Hall stage.

The Grand Hall is the First Disney Cruise Line Ship to Span Three Decks

If you sailed on other Disney Cruise Line ships , you'll remember that the atrium only spans two decks (Decks 3 and 4). But on Disney Wish, it spans three: Decks 3, 4, and 5.

A Peek Into the Ship's Design Elements in the Disney Wish Grand Hall Display Cases

It's easy to miss unless you're looking for them, but two glass-encased shelving units sit in the Grand Hall, close to the 1923 restaurant.

These displays show guests additional design elements of the ship, including storyboards and finishing choices. There are two entrances to 1923 restaurant: one on the left, the Roy Disney side, and one on the right, the Walt Disney side.

On the Roy Disney side, the glass cases show you design elements and planning info for the ship's exterior before entering the restaurant. You can learn more about Rapunzel and Pascal on the ship's stern and information about when the ship was being built in Germany at Meyer Werft.

You'll find information about the ship's interior on the Walt Disney side. This includes things like swatch boards for the carpet choices, sketches for the Grand Hall chandelier, and even concepts for Nightingdale's piano bar on Deck 3, with its incredible handblown glass “bubble” chandelier.

Disney Wish details of how the design came together in a glass showcase near 1923 restaurant.

Disney Wish Stern

The back of each Disney Cruise Line ship has a character specially chosen for that ship. Disney Dream has Sorcerer Mickey and the animated brooms from Fantasia. Disney Fantasy has Dumbo.

Rapunzel and her reptile friend, Pascal, are on the stern of the Wish. Her hair is playfully wrapped along the pegs on top of the “Disney Wish” words, holding her up as she paints the letters on the ship. Pascal holds her paint palette.

If you sit in a certain area of Arendelle toward the back windows, you can look down on her if the window shades are open.

Rapunzel is 8'11” tall, would wear a size 22 shoe, and her hair is 59'4″ long. Pascal may look small from far away, but he is shockingly 27.5″ tall, just over two feet.

Stern of Disney Wish cruise ship with Rapunzel painting the ship's letters.

Disney Wish Design Elements That Help You Navigate the Ship

It's very easy to get lost on a cruise ship! We love when ship designers consider the massive size of the ship and guest navigation in design details.

We very much appreciated Disney Wish design details in this aspect of the ship, as we learned our way around this cruise ship for the first time.

Staircases and Elevators Are Themed Differently in the Forward and Aft

It may be surprising to learn that Disney Wish has only two sets of elevators and staircases. (The previous four Disney Cruise Line ships have three sets of stairs and elevators.)

The nice thing, however, is that they're color-coded.

The forward stairs have a greenish-teal carpet. The theme here is “Enchanted Forest,” with woodland animals insignia on the carpet and inside the elevators.

The aft set of stairs and elevators has a blue carpet with Cinderella icons. This fairy tale theme shows iconography like a castle on the carpet. The elevator walls are decorated with wallpaper that has bluebirds and pumpkins on it.

Teal carpet with yellow swirls on Disney Wish next to the stairs.

Disney Wish Design Details In the Signage Next to Elevators

We loved two things about the signs next to the elevators on Disney Wish:

  • Anything “located on this deck” is bolded.
  • The bottom of each sign says where the nearest restrooms are.

Signage by the elevators on Disney Wish.

Important Things To Be Aware of With Disney Wish Elevators

Disney Wish has 14 decks. However, some elevators travel between Decks 1 and 11, while another set goes from Decks 1 through 14. This is labeled on the outside of the elevator.

So if you want to go to Deck 13, don't get into the elevator that only goes to Deck 11. If you do, you can take the elevator to Deck 11 and then walk up two decks to 13 if you're mobile.

Another Disney Wish design detail that we did not like is the elevator buttons (and it seemed every other guest we ran into in the elevator didn't like them either). They're finicky.

They seemed to all press when you didn't want them to, like if someone accidentally put their back to them on the elevators. Or they wouldn't press when you wanted them to, like to simply call an elevator to go up or down a deck.

We hope they change them in the future. If you sail on Disney Wish multiple times and they improve them, please let us know!

Design Details in Disney Wish Pool Areas

Disney Imagineers made different design choices for the pools on the Wish than on previous ships. On the Wish, the main pool isn't one big pool. Instead, there are six smaller pools for guests to enjoy. You can see them in the photo below if you look closely at the tiered levels behind all the lounge chairs.

Pool deck on Disney Wish cruises ship on a blue sky with white clouds day.

A small adult-only area pool gives the “illusion” of having an infinity edge. We didn't think the effect worked so well because safety glass is on the other side of the pool, where you see the metal adjoining the glass panels. It ruins the effect. But we appreciated what they were going for.

It's also important to note that the Disney Wish adults-only pool is much smaller than on other ships. They have added two areas of water benches on either side of the pool where you're able to sit outside the water but have your feet in the water.

Disney Wish cruise ship's adult-only pool with a bench and shallow water.

Additionally, the adults-only Whirlpool is relatively far from the adults-only pool. We're guessing they did this for spacial/planning reasons, though we're not entirely sure.

We mention it so you're not surprised and can't find the Whirpool if you're adults-only cruising with Disney .

Toy Story-Themed Splash Zone Area for Kids

If your little ones can't swim or if you don't feel comfortable with them going in pools with water of any depth , there's a wonderfully themed splash zone for them on Disney Wish, like the splash zones on many other Disney Cruise Line ships .

It's specifically designed for children ages six or younger. Parents are always in the Splash Zone supervising their young kids, of course. Kids can interact with Toy Story aliens that shoot water streams, Bo Peep's sheep, and go down a country-themed slide a la Woody, to boot.

AquaMouse Water Ride

The AquaMouse is the long-awaited attraction at sea for Disney Cruise Line. It's a fun waterslide.

If you happen to get to the attraction and the line is halfway down the stairs closest to the ride, expect to wait about an hour for a ride that lasts about 90 seconds. (The line can look deceivingly “short.”) The line is shortest at night.

When you get to the part of the AquaMouse queue where you can see the clothesline with nautical flags, you may wonder what the Imagineers spelled out in this fun Disney Wish design detail.

Well, you don't have to wonder! The flags spell out “Mickey Mouse”!

Disney Wish Designs Details in the Cruise Ship Restaurants

There are so many design elements to love in Disney Wish restaurants. We haven't mentioned every restaurant here because we're unaware of all the design choices that the Imagineers made in each area of the ship. However, we know some key things that we'll share with you that will make you appreciate each location more!

Enchante Adults-Only Restaurant

When you walk down the pretty hallway to Enchante, you'll notice Lumiere swinging from the lights on the right side of the hallway. You'll also notice the restaurant servers wearing a little Lumiere pin. Both are odes to Beauty and the Beast, which inspired the restaurant's French menu and certain design elements.

By the way, if you don't speak French, “Enchanté” means “Nice to meet you!”

Inside the restaurant are a collection of beautiful candelabras that you'll see after you notice the gorgeous center chandelier. The stunning chandelier has 397 champagne “bubbles” in gold and amber.

Every seat in the restaurant faces the glass windows of the ship, ensuring everyone has a window view. It's a great place to watch the sunset as you drink French wine and dine on fine cuisine at Enchanté, which we reviewed here .

1923 Restaurant

1923 is significant because it is the year the company was founded. The restaurant is split into two sides that look nearly identical: the Roy Disney and Walt Disney sides. Needless to say, they are the brothers who founded the company.

The glass displays in the restaurant show animated tools, sketches, and such. The decor and design inspiration of the furniture, light fixtures, and plates are from the 1920s, when art deco was popular.

Arendelle Restaurant

The Frozen-themed restaurant has a storyline surrounding Anna's engagement to Kristoff. It's a celebration with songs and dancing in the stage in the center of the restaurant.

The restaurant is broken into four sections in terms of design (though you'd never know it unless it was explained to you). The four flags are for General Mattias, Queen Ana, King Kristoff, and Elsa. Patterns on traditional Norwegian clothing inspired paintings on the backs of the chairs, ceiling, and doors.

Don't miss the photo-worthy opportunity to take a photo between the busts of Queen Anna and Elsa in the entrance to the restaurant. It's easiest to get the picture when people are dining, not when everyone enters the restaurant to be seated.

Disney Wish Design Details in Its Bars and Cafes

Bars and cafes on Disney Wish are plentiful. It feels like there are more than on any other Disney cruise line ship, however, it may also feel like that because the ship's plan is very different from the other ships in the fleet.

There are plenty of Disney Wish design details to love in all of these venues.

Disney Wish Cafes: The Enchanted Sword and Wishing Star Cafe

One of the coolest Disney Wish design details isn't a part of the ship's tangible elements. Rather, it's art on cocktails and coffee drinks. We were shocked when we were served a cappuccino with a gorgeous design on the milk foam!

They have a coffee art machine that “stamps” graphics on the milk or on the foam in a cocktail (like the froth adding egg whites to a cocktail creates). The bartenders told us that there are over 100 designs they can choose from, including a “Disney Wish” graphic. You can request a design if you like as well.

The designs stores in the machines are updated when they are on solid wifi in ports, so it's likely that the designs will evolve and refresh over time with some remaining staples.

Blue and white coffee cups with lattes and designs for "Wish" and Mickey Mouse in the milk foam on Disney Wish.

They can put these final-touch designs on cocktails too. We saw them on martinis some guests were drinking. We also saw Mickey and Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Jiminy Cricket, and Pinocchio – the designs are endless!

The machines that create the designs are from a company called Ripples. If you're curious (we were!), the machine starts at around $2,000 each. But you can get a similar one on Amazon for about $1,500 and really wow any friends who come to your house for coffee or a cocktail!

Enchanted Sword Cafe

This cafe is themed to Disney's animated film from the 1960s, The Sword in the Stone. There are three swords in the design vicinity around the bar.

Here's where you'll find them:

  • In the carpet that overlooks the Grand Hall on Deck 5.
  • In the railing by the cafe seating.
  • In the mirror above the coffee machine.

You'll also find lyrics from the movie's song, “That’s What Makes the World Go Round” written on the mirror to the bar's left.

Wishing Star Cafe

This cafe is Pinocchio-themed. A tiny, true-to-size bronze statue of Jiminy Cricket sits on the left side of the bar. You can share a cup of coffee with him! (Not really…but he can certainly watch you drink one.)

We appreciated that the floral arrangement on the bar was blue, which reminded us of the Blue Fairy in the movie. We requested that our latte be stamped with Pinocchio to stay true to the bar theme!

Disney Wish Bars

Whether you're heading to Hyperspace Lounge, The Bayou, Nightingale's, Keg and Compass, or Currents, there are Disney Wish design details to enjoy. Here are a few that stood out to us.

We spent a lot of time in The Bayou during our three-night cruise because it's where the wedding reception was for the Disney Wish wedding I was photographing onboard . It's absolutely beautiful!

If you look at the mirrors behind the bar at The Bayou, you'll see Tiana’s palace silhouetted on one of the mirrors.

In frog form, A statue of Prince Naveen is also in The Bayou in frog form, next to some of the lounge chairs on the level down from the bar. (The bar is slightly elevated in The Bayou.) He's a cutie!

You can't miss the gorgeous ceiling in The Bayou, adorned with flowers and foliage. Spanish Moss like this is abundant in the south from Louisiana to the Carolinas. Our best guess is that the white flowers are supposed to be magnolias, which is a popular flowering tree in the south, including New Orleans, where The Princess and the Frog takes place.

The Bayou on Disney Wish cruise ship with lounge seating and magnolias and Spanish moss on the ceiling.

Keg and Compass

Keg and Compass is a ship and map room where nautical elements are found in every detail. The bar draws inspiration from the seafarers of Norway.

Here are five cool things to look for:

  • A quote from Epcot's old attraction, “Maelstrom,” is on the wall in a small wooden plaque.
  • A lovely wooden octopus is curled around one of the porthole windows to the bar's left. It has hidden gems, like a Dole Whip and Mickey pretzel, are carved in its tentacles.
  • Another port hole is surrounded by a wooden carving with two octopuses facing each other. They are holding a Mickey
  • Under the bar, facing the entrance, is a map case with several drawers labeled with the world's oceans.
  • The ceiling is a maritime map of the world, or “Seafarer's Map of the World.”

There are some additional Disney-specific design details to look for in the ceiling, including:

  • Ellie and Carl’s house from Up, above South America.
  • Glendale, California, where Imagineering is headquartered.
  • Papenburg, Germany, where Disney Cruise Line ships are built at Meyer Werft.
  • A nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Nightingale's

The inspiration for Nightingale's was taken from Cinderella. Anyone who has seen this Disney animated classic could never forget the scene where Cinderella is scrubbing the floors and begins to beautifully hum, “Sing, sweet nightingale…”

You'll find a pretty inlaid mosaic mat welcoming you to the bar at this adults-only piano bar. Above the piano is a breathtaking chandelier.

The hand-blown white glass bubbles symbolize the bubbles that float up from the soapy solution Cinderella used to clean the floors.

Surrounding the bubbles are music notes on musical lines. This is from the sheet music for the song, Sing Sweet Nightingale . Each music note has a sparkling hand-cut crystal in its center.

Disney Wish details in the entrance to Nightingale's bar, with mosaic lettering.

The gorgeous Beauty and The Beast-themed bar was one of our favorite quiet, calm, adults-only areas on Disney Wish. Details are a-plenty here.

As soon as you walk towards the bar, you know you're in the right place, with the words “The Rose” on the black wall behind a small table. A glass-encased rose on the table with a hand mirror next to it.

Entrance to The Rose bar on Disney Wish, with a glass encased rose on a black table, with a mirror next to it.

After you enter the bar, look for the gold detailing above the windows, where you'll see a rose in the center of each circle. This gold detail is in Enchanté restaurant as well.

There is a wall of floating red rose petals behind the bar, and the edges of a flower arrangement of real red roses are dipped in gold paint. The ceiling even has a rose pattern formed from meandering gold lines.

If it appeals to you, order Mrs. Tea. It's a delicious cocktail with an impressive presentation, poured into a scalloped glass tea cup from a matching teapot.

The pieces are so gorgeous that we looked up the set online – we searched Amazon tea sets and couldn't find anything similar. So we Googled it and found it !

Two sets of a teacup + saucer are €87,15. This doesn't surprise us, knowing how delicate and lovely the Mrs. Tea “experience” was in person, including the drink, teacup, and teapot. The whole package was divine. Mrs. Pots and Chip would be proud.

Disney Wish Design Details at the Onboard Salon and Barbery

Two places to get pampered are onboard, aside from Senses Spa. They are Hook's Barbery and Untangled Salon. Treatments include anything from a haircut to a shave to a manicure, pedicure, or an up-do for a special evening.

Untangled Salon is what you would consider more typically feminine in its design, based on the movie Tangled. Hook's Barbery is based on Peter Pan, and is what you would consider more typically masculine in design. However, anyone – no matter the gender or label they identify with – is welcome in either location.

We saw women in the haircut chair in Hook's Barbery for teeth whitening while we were on board and men getting manicures at Untangled. You do you!

Hook’s Barbery

Hook's Barbery's color palette is dark with dark finishes. The references to any Disney characters are subtle and subdued, but you'll find a few design elements worth going on a little scavenger hunt to find for yourself.

Look for the following on the shelves inside the Barbery:

  • Captain Hook's hook
  • Silver crocodile statue
  • Map of Neverland (look on the doors that enclose the bar if you don't see it – the bar is often open, which means you won't see what's on the outside doors)

Of course, crocodiles and clocks are two things that Hook hates most!

Untangled Salon

This salon is themed to Tangled, the famous Disney movie whose main character, Rapunzel, hangs from the stern of Disney Wish.

Inside the salon, you'll want to look for some fun Disney Wish design details:

  • Lighting fixtures reminiscent of the floating lanterns from the famous floating lights scene in Tangled
  • The central chandelier is the shape of the Sundrop flower that gave Rapunzel her power
  • Flower chains for the curtain tiebacks

Disney Wish Design Details in Entertainment Venues

The Disney Wish entertainment venues that are spaces for theater, shows, games, movies and evening activities to unfold are worth some attention.

The two-deck entertainment theater, Luna, spans Decks 4 and 5. It is fairly plain overall, but the star-named theater does have a design detail in the ceiling.

It's a location architecturally influenced by the Globe Theatre in England. However, the Globe Theatre doesn’t have a ceiling, and Luna does.

The Imagineers had a creative solution for this. They put an “evening sky” above and painted constellations in a night scene. You'll find Mufasa, Wall-E's EVE (or “Eva,” as Wall-E calls her), Peter Pan, Jiminy Cricket, and Tinkerbell within the swirls.

If you're a fan of the Pixar short, La Luna, there is La Luna art in the forward staircase. (If memory serves us, it's close to Luna between Decks 4 and 5.)

Walt Disney Theater

The design of the main theater on Disney Wish is an enchanted forest. Its design has leaf patterns in the ceiling, walls, and doors, with dozens of gold flowers framing the entrance doors and the stage. Scenes from Fantasia inspired the design.

During shows, you'll notice that the theater's projection mapping extends beyond the main stage, seemingly taking over the space. This includes the Sands of Time scene during Aladdin and the sea taking over the theater during The Little Mermaid.

When you enter the theater from Deck 5, you'll see an exquisite design in the marble floor with Walt Disney's initial and whimsical flowers.

"WD" in marble on the floor in the entryway to the Walt Disney Theater on Disney Wish cruise ship.

Disney Wish Movie Theaters: Wonderland Theater and Neverland Theater

Walls have Cheshire Cat that disappears when the movie starts. The back of the seats are playing cards from the queen

Wonderland Theater is Alice in Wonderland themed. As you step into the hallway leading to the theater, you'll see the quote, “What a peculiar place,” on the floor, part of what Alice said in the movie. (Her quote was, “What a peculiar place to have a party.”)

The walls in the hallway leading to the seats are fabric, with illustrations sewn into the panels. The Cheshire Cats near the queen, with glowing yellow eyes, disappear when the movie starts. You'll notice the backs of the chairs are playing cards from the queen.

In Neverland Theater, you'll see a map of Neverland (that's sort of a mural too) on the back wall and the main characters of Peter Pan flying around, including Peter, John, and Wendy. They're flying in a wood-cut mural on the wall and on the chair backs as well. Notice the start of the handrail in the theater: it's a sword handle!

Disney Wish Horn Detail

The Disney Wish horn is visible from outside on the upper decks and has a fun first for DCL: the horns are within Mickey's head! The horns play a variety of tunes, including “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” to “Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirate's Life for Me,” to “it's a small world.”

Disney Wish Art Choices

As with all Disney Cruise Line ships, the art that adorns the walls was carefully selected for Disney Wish. Here, we mention a few pieces of art we learned about whose intention may not be so obvious until you dig deeper into each one of them.

Ship Cross-Section by The Bayou

There is a painting near the Bayou across from 3 Wishes store. It's called “Inside the Disney Wish” and is a cross-section of the ship.

It's definitely worth a closer look to see how the many venues – from Senses Spa to restaurants, theaters, and more – intertwine onboard. It also shows the crew areas of the ship, including their gym and laundry room.

Disney Wish details in the art, like this painting of a cross section of the cruise ship.

Painting Between Decks

There is a painting entitled, “Disney Wish joins the Disney Cruise Line Fleet” between Decks 3 and 4 forward, the staircase with teal carpet. The Disney Wish sails off to join the fleet, and you will notice the other four Disney Cruise Line ships in the distance.

Nikkolas Smith , former Imagineer, and full-time illustrator and speaker, created the painting between Decks 3 and 4 in the aft staircase. “Cindys” shows women from different walks of life and cultures uplifting each other to live out their happily ever after on the other side of the wall they're climbing over…together.

Painting between decks in a staircase on Disney Wish, by Nikkolas Smith, called, "Cindys."

Mosaics on Disney Wish

There are several mosaics around the ship.

One is a mosaic of Cinderella and the Prince dancing with a banner that says, “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” on the top left-hand corner.

Two smaller mosaics are of scenes from Pinnochio right by Wishing Star Cafe.

Lastly is the mosaic in the floor by The Bayou that says, “Wish” in gold tiles.

Cinderella mosaic, a colorful design detail on Disney Wish cruise ship.

Disney Tapestries on Disney Wish

Another fun element on this ship is the tapestries onboard.

There is one of Cinderella cleaning the floor from the animated movie in a staircase between Decks 3 and 4. There's one on Deck 5 as well. It is Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia, Cinderella's infamous stepmother and step-sisters. We loved the gold thread border that frames that one!

Additional Art on Disney Wish

There's a huge Mickey and the Beanstalk-themed piece of artwork with moving parts on the ship. It's floor-to-ceiling and has several layers to it, almost like the painted glass panes with which they originally created animated films.

Mickey and the Beanstalk is a Disney animated film from the 1920s, yet they have modernized it a bit in the artwork. For example, if you wait long enough, you'll see a Disney Cruise Line ship (assumably Wish) slowly move across the art in the distance.

Around the corner from Bibbity Boppity Boutique on Disney Wish, just before you reach Hook's Barbery, are amazing framed photography prints. The photos were created by CreativeSoul Photography as they reinvented the image of Disney Princesses to be inclusive so people of all colors can see themselves as Disney royalty.

They're truly striking and were so well orchestrated!

Disney Wish Design Details: The Onboard Walking Tour

If you love learning about design elements like this, be sure to sign up for the free guided Wish tour called “Walking the Wish.” You can do so from your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app when you're on the ship.

Several tours are usually available, and there is a maximum of 60 guests per tour.

Don't Forget to Bring Your Disney Gear!

Whether you grab your nautical Mickey Mouse and Disney-inspired attire, toiletry cases, bags, and tags from Amazon or from ShopDisney , maximize your options for your Wish vacation. There are shops onboard, but we found that online options are far more plentiful.

Check out our specially curated Disney Cruise Line shopping list on Amazon . There are a lot of items on this list you cannot get in Disney Cruise Line shops.

Besides, you can always buy Disney things in advance and buy Wish-themed items on the ship. The more the merrier!

Disney Wish Design Conclusion

Whether you love Disney Cruise Line for its ports, food, or connection to the classic characters, you'll surely find Disney Wish design details to love on the fifth ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Look to its Grand Hall, restaurant elements, hidden references to Disney music, and more in every nook and cranny of the ship.

More experiences unique to the wish, disney uncharted adventure.

A NEW, first-of-its-kind interactive experience made its debut on the Disney Wish: Disney Uncharted Adventure !

disney wish cruise ship stern

This new game takes guests on a journey through the worlds of several iconic Disney and Pixar characters. The game is designed for families to play together while on the ship, ultimately exploring areas they may not visit otherwise.

Guests who have sailed on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy may be familiar with the Midship Detective Agency, but Uncharted Adventure elevates the experience! For instance, this adventure technically begins before you even board on the Wish ! To play Disney Uncharted Adventure,  you — and everyone in your party who would like to play — will need the Play Disney Parks app . It will assist you in beginning the adventure FROM HOME.

disney wish cruise ship stern

Play Disney Parks app logo

Before you even step aboard the ship, Captain Minnie and Captain Mickey will tell you about the night sky, the stars, and the special relationship they have with seafaring . But, there are certain “magical stars” you can only see from the Disney Wish ! You’ll need a magical spyglass to see them, and The Play Disney Parks app will transform into your magical spyglass, giving you the ability to see these special constellations once onboard.

At the center of these special constellations is the beautiful, shining “wishing star.” But a storm comes along… And the Wishing Star gets hit by something and shatters! And now?

Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie need YOUR help. Using your magical spyglass, you’ll navigate the ship to uncharted regions to find the pieces of the Wishing Star.

“If wishing upon a star makes your dreams come true, what happens when that star goes missing?”

Treats are included (because what’s a PICNIC without food??). And kids receive some keepsakes to take home including a reversible troll plush, themed picnic blanket, and custom Nordic-style mandolin (which they can use for a singalong with Kristoff)! Guests who have booked a voyage on the Wish may reserve their spot at Olaf’s Royal picnic before sailing for an additional fee. (The price is $220 for Children and $69 for Adults.)

Of course, passengers will likely want to pick up a little something special to remember their voyage on the Disney Wish ! The Wish features “ an elegant retail district that runs between the Grand Hall and the Walt Disney Theatre on deck 3.”

Captain Minnie is also featured on the bow of the Disney Wish ! Disney explains that the scroll pattern (which has Hidden Mickeys and Plutos!) is  reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s, in keeping with the design of the other ships in the fleet.

In April 2021, Disney performed an important ceremony: the  traditional keel laying ceremony ! When a ship is being built,  a newly minted coin is placed under the ship’s keel when the first section of the ship is lowered into the building dock. (It’s considered a token of good fortune.)

On March 31, 2022, the ship departed the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany after nearly two years of construction . And in April 2022, the Disney Wish entered open water on the North Sea  after 24 hours traveling down the  River Ems in Germany! The Wish then traveled to Eemshaven, Netherlands for sea trials. Disney shared a video about the voyage :

Disney cruise ships typically choose a godmother for each new ship, which represents good fortune for the ship’s travels. For the first time ever, all Make-A-Wish children, past, present, and future, have been recognized as godchildren of the Disney Wish .

disney wish cruise ship stern

The Make-A-Wish godchildren played a special role in the Christening Ceremony , and join the fleet’s godmothers: Patty Disney, Tinker Bell, Jennifer Hudson, and Mariah Carey. This is the first time in Disney Cruise Line history that children have been honored with this role in the ship’s journey!

Disney Wish Review: Ultimate Guide to Disney’s New Cruise Ship

Jill Robbins Avatar

Jill Robbins

Disney Wish Reviews - Family on Castaway Cay with Disney Wish in the background

The   Disney Wish’s maiden voyage was on July 14, 2022, making it Disney’s newest cruise ship in the line’s fleet of now five ships. The Wish is the first of the Triton Class ships, and it’s expected that the Disney Treasure , which is set to debut in 2024, will be similar in layout.

The Disney Wish is currently sailing three and four-night cruises going to Nassau and Castaway Cay from Port Canaveral, and it looks like this ship will keep to that route for the foreseeable future.

If you’re trying to decide what Disney Cruise Line vessel  is the right one for you, here’s a deep dive into what the Disney Wish   offers; although I choose my cruises based on the sailing dates and where they’re going versus choosing based on ship, although a lot of Disney cruise  enthusiasts, me included, will sail on the Wish  because they’re curious about Disney’s newest ship. I’ve sailed four of the five ships in Disney’s fleet and on the  Wish  once.

Disney Wish Reviews - Rapunzel Stern Art

Ship Basics

The Disney Wish  is 1,119 feet long, making it Disney’s largest ship, although not by a lot. The ship has 1,254 staterooms and can accommodate a maximum of 4,000 passengers and a crew of 1,555. The ship’s Grand Hall is larger and more open than the atriums on the other four ships, and a statue of Cinderella, complete with Lucifer the cat waiting to pounce on the mice hiding beneath Cinderella’s petticoats. All Disney ships have unique stern art, and the Disney Wish’s  stern art features Rapunzel from Tangled .

Disney Wish Reviews - Embarkation Disney Wish

Choose the Itineraries Over Choosing the Ship

Overall, I recommend choosing your Disney cruise based on what dates are good for you and where the ship is going. Since the Wish  is currently on a loop between the Bahamas and Port Canaveral, if you want to sail on the Wish , you’d better like the Bahamas.

The ship is currently rotating three and four-night sailings, so if you want to do a longer sailing on the Wish , you can book back-to-back cruises .

Staterooms on the Disney Wish

The types of staterooms on the   Disney Wish   are Concierge, Oceanview with Verandah, and Inside. Concierge is Disney Cruise Line’s suite class. The staterooms are more spacious and have enhanced in-room amenities, access to a concierge lounge, and dedicated shoreside and onboard teams to assist them. Sailing concierge has other perks, such as priority embarkation and disembarkation and the first choice of shore excursions and onboard activities.

Of course, this luxury and convenience come with a price: Concierge staterooms are the most expensive.

The Disney Wish  also has a Moana-inspired two-story tower stateroom as well as a two-story Sleeping Beauty -inspired Royal Suite.

The other stateroom categories are pretty much what they sound like, except Disney uses the word ‘verandah’ whereas most other cruise lines use the word balcony. An Oceanview stateroom will have portholes to look out of, and an inside stateroom will have no windows. The inside staterooms are the least expensive.

Disney Wish Reviews - Bedroom in ocean view verandah room Disney Wish

Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

We stayed in an Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on Deck 12. The room had a split bath, meaning the toilet and sink were separate from the tub/shower and second sink. The queen bed had a curtain that could help separate the bed from the living room area.

The stateroom attendant made the couch into a bed and pulled the bunk down from the ceiling each night as part of the turndown service. This is where my teens slept.

Join our Private Disney FB Group for more tips! JOIN HERE

Our room had Moana -themed decor and it felt like we had more floor space than similar cabins on other DCL ships. That said, cruise ship cabins aren’t generally known to be roomy. Our flatscreen TV was larger than the TV in similar-grade cabins on other ships and was wall-mounted. There were also no shortages of outlets and USB charging ports.

Disney Wish Reviews - Door to bedroom view ocean view stateroom.

Rotational Dining on the Disney Wish

Rotational dining is unique to Disney Cruise Line. You’ll be assigned a different dining room each night of your cruise, which is included in the price of your cruise. The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App will tell you where you eat each night.

The cool thing about rotational dining is that your servers go with you from location to location, and they will make every effort to get to know you and your family throughout the cruise. The Disney   Wish  three main dining rooms, Worlds of Marvel (Deck 4 aft), 1923 (Deck 3, right off the Grand Hall), and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure (Deck 5 aft.)

Each menu includes bread service. The bread comes with butter and some type of dip or sauce. You’ll also find at least one plant-based option and a “lighter notes” menu, including a salad, a plain steak, plain salmon, and a plain chicken breast. Each venue has unique desserts, a signature dessert, and a sugar-free dessert option. If you’re an ice cream lover, you’ll be happy to know there’s a themed sundae on every menu.

All three main dining rooms on the  Wish  are unique to the Wish . There’s some duplication with the other ships but the newest ship has all-new dining.

Early or late dining

Guests will choose between early or late dining when booking their Disney Wish  cruise. Early seating is at 5:45 p.m., and second seating is at 8:00 p.m. Once you choose, you’re locked in, and there is no flipping back and forth between early or late seatings.

Worlds of Marvel

World of Marvel is a Marvel-themed restaurant, as the name suggests. Spoiler alert: The food is good, but if you’re not at least a little bit of a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this experience might not wow you. This is dinner and a show – the show is called Quantum Encounter,  and it is played on large video screens throughout the restaurant. The lighting is dim, and the volume of the show is pretty loud, so focusing on anything other than the entertainment isn’t really an option.

The decor is futuristic, with lots of chrome and blue lighting It reminded me a little bit of being in the queue at Space Mountain at Disney World. The table settings are very themed with Avengers-branded bread plates and a Quantum Core centerpiece that is an integral and interactive part of the Quantum Encounter , which is hosted by Ant-Man and The Wasp. The show is virtual, but it ends with a surprise in-person encounter with an Avenger who is actually aboard the Wish .

Disney Wish Reviews - Entrance World of Marvel Disney Wish

Food at Worlds of Marvel

The appetizer choices were smoked salmon, bao buns, hearts of palm ceviche, and crispy shrimp. Salad choices were an heirloom tomato salad and an iceberg wedge, and soup choices were potato and cream of mushroom.

The entree selections were a spiced pork chop, a seafood pasta dish, a turbot filet, chicken schnitzel, and a ribeye. The dessert selection did not disappoint and included sticky date pudding, key lime pie, chocolate torte, a donut sundae, cheesecake, and a flourless chocolate beetroot cake.

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

Arendelle is Frozen-themed  dining, and if you’ve dined at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder  or Rapunzel’s Royal Table on the Magic , this is the same concept. Disney has blown the theming out of the water with the Arendelle decor. The hallway into the restaurant is a full-on Frozen  Instagram fest that makes you want to unashamedly belt out a chorus of For the First Time in Forever . At least it had that effect on me. If you’ve dined at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder  or Rapunzel’s Royal Table on the Disney Magic , Arendelle is the same concept with the theming kicked up several notches.

This is for you if you love a meal with a good backstory. The story picks up where Frozen II leaves off, and the meal is a party celebrating the engagement of Anna and Kristoff. The engagement party is hosted by Elsa herself and Olaf and put on by Oaken’s “Party Planning Service and Sauna.” All the characters are in attendance, so be prepared for many squeals as these iconic modern princesses enter the dining room.

Disney Wish Reviews - Arendelle Disney Wish

Food at Arendelle

As you might expect, the menu has a Nordic theme to it, but as with all DCL menus, there’s something designed to please all palates.

Appetizers include a charcuterie board with smoked salmon and trout, a Jarlseberg cheese and ham tart, chilled asparagus, and scallops in puff pastry. Salad offerings are cucumber, potato, carrot salad, and baby greens with lingonberry dressing, and soup choices are carrot and yellow split pea.

The entree selections were a dry-rubbed pork tenderloin, Chilean sea bass, braised meatballs on egg noodles, roasted chicken breast, and a ribeye.  Desserts included apple cake, a pancake with lingonberry jam and cheesecake, butter cake, chocolate cake, and an Elsa’s Coronation Sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream. The no-sugar dessert was a lemon almond cake with citrus salad.

Disney Wish Reviews - 1923 Disney Wish

Although I enjoyed all three main dining rooms on the Disney Wish , 1923 was my favorite. Although I enjoy Disney, I find myself gravitating more strongly toward any venue that’s not hyper-character-themed, especially now that my kids are older. 1923 is named for the year the Walt Disney Company was founded and the decor and artifacts pay homage to Disney’s early animation history.

1923 is split into two dining rooms, the Walt Disney and the Roy Disney. The vibe in 1923 is old Hollywood. There are original animation drawings located in cases throughout the restaurant, which are interesting to check out. The only drawback is the restaurant is quite crowded, and it’s difficult, if not impossible, to cruise around the restaurant looking at the displays. Suppose you’re really interested in the art of animation. In that case, I recommend lingering and looking at the displays as the meal is coming to a close and people are leaving.

Food at 1923

The 1923 menu is California-inspired, a nod to the Walt Disney Company’s roots in the Golden State. Appetizers are spiced ahi tuna, a burrata plate, tri-color tortelloni and duck confit pastilla. Salad choices are fennel bartlett pear salad and a romaine lettuce salad with heirloom grape tomatoes. Soup offerings are pulled Guinea Hen corn chowder and a roasted tomato soup.

Main dishes included tortiglioni pasta with pancetta, seared salmon, rack of lamb, and a peppered filet mignon. Dessert selections were churros, flourless orange almond cake, Fuji Apple cheesecake, a hot fudge sundae, blueberry lemon Bavarian cream, and a no-sugar-added coconut tapioca pudding.

Disney Wish Reviews - Marceline Market Disney Wish

Quick Service and Other Included Dining On the Disney Dream

There are many other places to eat included in the cost of your cruise.

Marceline Market

Marceline Market is the Disney Wish’s  buffet eatery. Serving a wide variety of items for both breakfast and lunch, Marceline Market offers indoor and outdoor seating.

Room Service

Most room service items on the Disney Wish  are included in the cost of your cruise. A variety of soups, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and desserts can be delivered to your room 24 hours a day. Really .

Certain items on the room service menu are not free, so make sure you’re paying attention when you order. Alcohol, canned soda, and snacks such as candy and popcorn aren’t included.

Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue

New to the  Wish , Mickey’s Smokestack BBQ serves up brisket, ribs, pulled, pork, sausage, and all the fixins, including cornbread and baked macaroni and cheese.

Donald’s Cantina

Tacos and fresh Tex-Mex bowls await you at Donald’s Cantina.

Goofy’s Grill

Burgers, dogs, chicken tenders, bratwurst, and of course, french fries. They also offer an Impossible burger and plant-based sausage.

Daisy’s Pizza Pies

A variety of whole pies and pizza by the slice are available throughout the day.

Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream

Endless soft-serve ice cream on deck is a hallmark of Disney cruises. You’ll always find vanilla and chocolate and the other flavors are switched out periodically so that you usually hit something new.

Joyful Sweets

This  Inside Out-inspired  confectionary serves hand-dipped gelato, a variety of sundaes, ice cream treats, candy, and other delights to tempt a sweet tooth. Not included in the cost of your cruise.

Preludes is the concession stand near the theater that serves popcorn that you can smell a mile away, candy and other snacks, sodas, and alcohol. You can also order from a server in the theater before the show starts.

The Cove Café serves specialty coffee and tea, with and without alcohol. Aside from the self-service coffee machine in the Concierge Lounge, the Cove Café is the only place to get decent coffee on the ship, and if you like your morning java, make sure you’re budgeting for it.

I think the Cove Café on the Wish is one of the nicest in the fleet. There’s a Cove Café on all the ships but the Wish’s location adjacent to the adult infinity pool is light, airy, and the perfect place to relax.

Adult Fine Dining on the Disney Wish

The  Wish has two adult-only  fine dining venues, Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté. If you’re looking for a sans kids dinner or brunch date, a coveted reservation at one of these spots is the way to go.

Palo Steakhouse

The Disney Wish  has Palo Steakhouse with a slightly different menu and theming than Palo on the other ships. Palo Steakhouse serves dinner and brunch on sea days. I’m a huge fan of Palo Brunch but I didn’t get the opportunity to eat at Palo during my cruise on the Wish. The cost of brunch is $45 per person* and worth it. Even though I can’t speak specifically to Palo Steakhouse Brunch on the  Wish , I’d expect it to be nothing short of spectacular based on past experience.

Dinner at Palo Steakhouse is served from a fixed-price menu. There are a variety of steaks and chops, naturally, but there are seafood and pasta options as well, all more elevated than what you’ll find in the main dining room with spectacular ocean views – I recommend dining at sunset – and you’ll have access to a sommelier and an extensive wine list with Italian wines. Palo dinner is $50.

Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement is an elegant, Beauty and the Beast -themed adult dining venue. Chef Lallement is a three Michelin-starred chef from Reims, France, who also curated the menu for Remy, the French restaurant on the  Disney Dream  and Disney   Fantasy .

There’s a subtle nod to Lumiere, everyone’s most-loved candlestick, in the logo, otherwise, Enchanté is mysteriously encased behind gleaming doors in The Rose lounge on the Wish. Enchanté serves dinner, champagne brunch, and a dessert experience. The reviews and pricing indicate the experience is very similar to Remy, which means around $125 per person for dinner.

Is Disney Wish Adult Dining for Me?

There is no need to spend additional money on dining on the Disney Wish unless you want to. The food in the main dining rooms is delicious and well-presented and there are a ton of other food options around the ship. Booking a meal at Palo Steakhouse is a sound deal for foodies or those celebrating a special occasion, compared to what you’d pay for similar quality and ambiance elsewhere.

If Enchanté is anything like Remy, it’s for the serious foodies with an adventurous palate and not for picky eaters or anyone with extensive dietary restrictions. If this doesn’t hit close to describing you, Enchanté might feel intimidating.

Adult Dining Dress Code and Reservations

Disney cruises, in general, are pretty casual, but Enchanté and Palo adhere to a dress code. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Dress casual attire with a polished look is permitted (such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts and blouses, and lifestyle shoes). Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear, and sports attire is not permitted.

Try to make adult dining reservations prior to sailing. All Disney cruisers will have a booking window for onboard activities and shore excursions, which Disney calls Port Adventures. You will want to make reservations at the beginning of this window, which means 12:01 am Florida time. If you don’t get the reservation you want before your cruise, check as soon as you board the ship.

Disney Wish Reviews - Bayou Lounge Disney Wish

Bars on the Disney Wish

There are plenty of bars and lounges on the Disney Wish . Some are out in the open and hard to miss; others are delightfully tucked away. Lounges are adult-only after 7:00 pm, but many of them are located in high-traffic areas. The Bayou is a Princess and the Frog-themed  bar in the middle of all the action on Deck 3. While children aren’t permitted to be seated after 7:00 pm, some cruisers have expressed displeasure about the bars not being in a concentrated adults-only area, like the other ships.

This roomy, open lounge is decorated with magnolia blossoms, lily pads, and twinkling lights.

Luna’s Libations – Deck 4

The Luna Theater is a two-story theater that hosts family-friendly games and events by day and more adult-themed entertainment in the evenings. The bar is on the lower floor of the theater.

Keg & Compass – Deck 5

Nautically-themed pub with sports screens and a selection of beers available only on Disney Cruise Line.

Wishing Star Café – Deck 4

Here, you’ll find cold brew cocktails and a variety of coffee drinks, fresh-pressed juices, beer, and wine.

If a tall, fruity drink will complete your on-deck experience, there are several places to get one. There are two pool bars on Deck 11 and one on Deck 14. There’s also a small bar in the Quiet Cove adults-only area.

Hook’s Barbery

While not actually a bar, I had to mention this one. If you opt to get a haircut or hot shave at sea, Hook’s Barbery has a whisky bar where you can craft a custom Old Fashioned to sip while you get spiffed up.

Party Like a Pirate

All Disney Cruise sailings to the Bahamas have a designated pirate night. The cast members will be in pirate attire as will a good number of the guests. You’ll see everything from elaborate pirate costumes to DIY to pirate tee shirts. The typical pirate experience includes a deck party with fireworks at sea, musical entertainment and the loveable and predictable good conquers evil battle between Captain Hook and Captain Mickey.

The Wish’s pirate deck party is in two parts. The first part is a 15-minute show that takes place between the two main dining room sessions. This show involves teaching the audience a pirate dance followed by the usual shenanigans of Hook and Smee trying to take over the ship and failing. Good triumphs over evil, you know.

The second round of pirate festivities takes place at around 10:15. The Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party is a delightful 30-minute musical performance of 80’s rock hits by a band of rowdy pirates. The party is led by Captain Redd, who is explained to be a descendant of Captain Redd from the recently modified Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney parks. The performance leads straight into fireworks at sea.

This new way of celebrating Pirate Night allows families with younger kids who go to bed early an opportunity to enjoy Pirate Night.

Disney Wish Reviews - Oceaneer Club Disney Wish

Kid’s Activities On the Disney Wish

Kids clubs are included on the Disney Wish  cruise and all Disney cruise ships. There are three kid’s clubs that young passengers can go on based on age, the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab, Edge, and Vibe. There’s also a nursery.

The kid’s clubs are open all day and all evening without a break, and there’s no limit to how long a child can stay in the clubs. The clubs will offer an open house on the first day and at various points during the cruise – check the Navigator App for times. Anyone can check out the clubs during Open House. Otherwise, only the kids registered with the clubs can be in them.

Disney Wish Reviews - Star Wars area Disney Wish oceaneer club

Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab

These colocated kid’s clubs are for kids three to 12. Kids must be potty trained. The Oceaneer Lab’s activities are a little more educational-focused than the Oceaneer Club. We’ve sailed on the Disney Magic ,  Disney Dream , and Disney Wonder,  and the Oceaneer Club on the Wish  is next-level.

The Oceaneer Club is located on Deck 2. You can enter from Deck 2 or via a slide from Deck 3. Adults can try this out during open house, and I highly recommend it.

Kids can use technology to create and manipulate their own Marvel superhero, design their own rollercoaster, live out their Padawan dreams in the immersive Star Wars area, and so much more. There are also Disney character visits exclusive to the kids club, arts and crafts, movies, dance parties and the list goes on.

It’s a Small World Nursery

The nursery is not included in the cost of your cruise, and reservations are required. Kids between six months and three years old can go to the nursery.

Disney Wish Reviews - Small World Nursery Disney Wish

Pools and Slides on the Disney Wish

The Disney Wish  has six themed pools on Decks 11 and 12. The pools are all quite small and I never saw all the pools open at one time during our three-night sailing.

The Quiet Cove pool area is adult-only, has Disney Cruise Line’s first infinity pool and a pool with bench seating, which is perfect for adults who want to lounge in the water versus swim.

Disney Wish Reviews - Disney Wish Quiet Cove

Younger Guests and Pools Aboard the Disney Wish

Kids must be three and older and potty trained to be allowed in the pools on all Disney Cruise Line vessels. Kids in swim diapers can splash in the Toy Story Splash Zone.

Disney Wish Reviews - Deck view of AquaMouse

The AquaMouse

The AquaMouse on Deck 13 is what Disney Cruise Line has touted as the first attraction at sea. Guests (single riders or duos) climb into a clear tube and ride up an incline conveyor belt while Disney animated cartoons, complete with well-timed squirts of water, play on the walls. The slide is mostly enclosed, including one area where the tube swings out over the side of the ship, giving the rider the sense that they’re careening off into the ocean. It’s a fast and fun water slide that I’d call medium on the thrill spectrum.

Disney Wish Reviews - AquaMouse entrance Disney Wish

And, despite Disney calling it an “attraction at sea” it’s really just a waterslide with some cartoons, which is the big difference between the AquaMouse and the AquaDuck on the Dream  and Fantasy .

Guests under seven may ride with someone 14 or older but must be at least 42 inches tall. Guests 14 and older who wish to ride alone must be at least 48 inches tall.

Disney Wish Reviews - Walt Disney Theater Disney Wish

Entertainment and Live Shows on the Disney Wish

The onboard Walt Disney Theater will have Disney-themed, Broadway-style entertainment on board. The current shows on the Disney Wish  are The Little Mermaid , Aladdin , and Seas the Adventure.

The shows typically run about 50 minutes to give guests time to get to dinner and other activities. Aladdin  is an abbreviated version of the Broadway musical, and the show’s designers have done a fantastic job of telling the full story in the time allotted without making the guests feel cheated.

The Little Mermaid  is an exclusive Disney Cruise Line production that tells a familiar story with a twist. Seas the Adventure is a Wish exclusive  production that’s shown on the first night of the cruise. It’s a fun story about what happens when Captain Minnie gives Goofy the responsibility of taking over the ship’s navigation.

On longer cruises, the entertainment may include illusionists or family-friendly comedy shows. If there’s a world premiere of a Disney movie while you’re on board, the Walt Disney Theater may hold a Hollywood-style opening night.

Shows are aligned with dinner seatings

There are two dinner seatings and two nightly shows. If you’re dining early, you’ll eat first and then go to the show. If you’re dining later, your designated show will be before dinner.

Disney Wish Reviews - Never Land Cinema Disney Wish

Movies on Board the Disney Wish

The Wish  has two theaters for Disney movies, the Wonder Land Cinemar and the Never Land Cinema. Watch Disney movies on board the Disney Dream  in the Buena Vista Theater. The Buena Vista will show first and second run Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars movies, so if there’s something from one of those franchises playing at the theater when you take your cruise, you’ll be able to watch it on board the Disney Wish , and it’s included in the cost of your cruise.

A schedule of movie times will be posted on the marquee outside the theater, and they’ll also be listed in the Disney Navigator App.

Funnel Vision

If you want to watch a Disney movie from the pool or while relaxing on the sun deck with a piece of pizza, there are nearby round-the-clock movies playing on a giant screen on Deck 11.

In-Room Movies

If you prefer to cozy up in your room and watch Disney films, just turn on your TV.

Disney Character Meet and Greets

Whether you are a first time Disney cruiser  or whether it’s your tenth Disney Cruise, seeing your favorite Disney characters on board is always a fun treat.

There are almost endless opportunities to interact with your favorite Disney characters on a Disney cruise ship. Your Navigator app will tell you the character times and locations, so find out when your favorites will be available and line up early for that photo. Don’t forget your autograph book.

Fun Character-Themed Outfits

If you’re into character greetings, you’ll be delighted to know that character attire on a Disney Cruise Line ship is unique. You’ll see characters in nautical outfits on board, in beachwear on Disney’s Castaway Cay, and in pirate garb on pirate night. The Wish  is currently the only ship with Captain Minnie in charge, and she wears different outfits than crew member Minnie wears on the other ships.

Where Does the Disney Wish Cruise Stack Up For Me?

I love the  Disney Wish , although not as much as the Dream class and classic ships. The Disney Wonder  is my favorite, and the Disney Magic  is a close second. I love the smaller ships, and I’ll be heartbroken if they retire these ships without replacing them with a more intimate-sized cruise ship.  The Disney Wish  ranks last for me – so far, I still have the Fantasy to go – but that doesn’t mean it was bad or that I don’t appreciate the new additions.

I would sail on the Wish  again if the opportunity came up. It’s a great way to get to the Bahamas and to Castaway Cay, one of my favorite places on Earth.

Disney Cruise Line Reveals Disney Treasure Stern Featuring Peter Pan and Captain Hook

Disney Treasure Stern Featuring Peter Pan and Captain Hook

Disney Cruise Line has revealed quite a bit of news about the upcoming Disney Treasure, and now they are showcasing the ship’s stern design featuring Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

Each ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet features a stern design that includes Disney characters, such as the newest ship, the Disney Wish , which features Rapunzel and her hair.

 Wish stern which features Rapunzel.

The Disney Treasure will follow this tradition with help from Peter Pan, and his foe, Captain Hook.

Peter is seen adding the finishing paint strokes to the ship’s logo, with a bucket of the yellow paint in his other hand, while Hook is seen leaning out his porthole covered in the paint and shaking a hook at Peter.

Take a look:

There’s still lots of work to be done while the ship is still docked at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, but it is making great progress.

Recent updates include the attachment of the bow, the bridge, and the framework for what will be The Walt Disney Theater on the ship.

The Disney Treasure is the second in a trio of new ships that includes the Disney Wish, that emphasizes fuel efficiency and energy conservation features .

It was announced at last year’s D23 Expo that the ship is set to debut in the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2024.

2 Stern Characters Coming to Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Treasure

disney treasure

Each Disney Cruise Line ship stern features a sculpture of a character. This tradition will continue on the Disney Treasure, which will feature Peter Pan and Captain Hook in honor the ship’s motif of adventure.

Related – 3 Disney Treasure Updates from Disney Cruise Line

disney treasure

This Disney Treasure update is coming to you from sunny Celebration, Florida, the headquarters for Disney Cruise Line. Yesterday, the Disney Cruise Line team was thrilled to be debuting an image of the ship’s stern for the very first time! For 25 years, each Disney Cruise Line ship has been adorned with characters from beloved Disney adventures. The Disney Treasure will follow this tradition with its own signature character sculptures that honor the ship’s motif of adventure, Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

Harnessing the power of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Peter Pan will levitate next to the Disney Treasure to add the finishing touch to the ship’s stern filigree. Meanwhile, Peter Pan’s longtime rival, Captain Hook can be seen leaning out a porthole with a vengeful expression on his face. Paintbrush and paint bucket in hand, Peter Pan sports a mischievous grin as he glances back at Captain Hook, who is dripping in yellow paint.

Disney Cruise Line Stern Characters

The five other Disney Cruise Line ships also have beloved characters on their stern. They are:

  • Disney Magic: Goofy
  • Disney Wonder: Donald Duck and his nephew Huey
  • Disney Fantasy: Dumbo
  • Disney Dream: Sorcerer Mickey
  • Disney Wish: Rapunzel

More About Disney Treasure

The Treasure will be designed with a brand-new motif unlike anything Disney Cruise Line has done before. The theme of adventure, inspired by Walt Disney’s love of exploration, will pave the way for epic experiences that immerse guests in some of the company’s most legendary stories.

The Grand Hall will radiate the irresistible allure of adventure, inviting guests to seek all the treasures on board from the moment they embark. Inspired by the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace, it draws on real-world influences from Asia and Africa and pays homage to the far-off land of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic tale, “Aladdin.”

The signature atrium character statue — a Disney Cruise Line tradition — will be a shining, shimmering, splendid representation of Aladdin, Jasmine and Magic Carpet soaring together toward a whole new world of adventure.

The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2024. Following the Disney Wish, which set sail in July, it’s the second of three new ships planned through 2025. The Wish class ships are powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 guest staterooms.

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

Disney Wish

The Disney Wish was built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the same shipyard responsible for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The Disney Wish, the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise fleet, will showcase the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver. The ship will be powered by liquified natural gas, or LNG, one of the cleanest-burning fuels available. At approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,254 guest staterooms for a maximum 4000 passengers, the ship will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Most of the ship’s 1,254 staterooms will offer an ocean view — including 877 (70%) with a spacious verandah — and there will be 451 connecting doors that adjoin rooms to accommodate larger families.

The new builds were announced by Bob Iger during the 2016 Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders. During a June 2018 Port Canaveral meeting , it was mentioned a third Disney Cruise ship would homeport at Port Canaveral beginning January 2022. Then, during the 2019 D23 Expo, Bob Chapek announced the ship will be named the Disney Wish.

On April 8, 2021, Captain Minnie was announced as the centerpiece of the Disney Wish’s bow.

Disney Cruise Line revealed the many details planned for the launch of the Disney Wish during the Once Upon a Disney Wish grand reveal prevention on April 29, 2021.

Delivery of the Disney Wish was originally slated for late 2021 with sailings embarking in the early part of 2022. However, as a result of the pandemic, the dates slipped initially to a spring 2022 delivery with the maiden voyage scheduled for June 9, 2022. Then, in February 2022, it was announced there will be a second delay pushing the Maiden Voyage to July 14, 2022. It is worth noting, only this second delay impacted sailings as the first occurred well before the inaugural season went on sale.

On February 11, 2022, the Disney Wish floated out of Hall 6.
