Cobbles is top dog on the bus tours

Cobbles the scottie dog has been appointed the edinburgh bus tours new official ambassador..

Named by colleagues after Edinburgh’s setted streets, Cobbles will soon be rolling over for customers as they board one of the company’s four open top bus tours departing from St Andrew Square, seven days a week.

Joining the team as the summer holidays kick off, Cobbles is nearly 6ft tall and is dressed in the official Edinburgh Bus Tours tartan produced by Kinloch Anderson for the company in 2014.

Gaynor Marshall, Communications Director for Edinburgh Bus Tours said: “We are delighted to welcome a new member to the family at Edinburgh Bus Tours. Our full of fun character Cobbles has been learning all of our tour routes and finding out lots of information about our city and the many attractions dotted along each journey.

“Edinburgh Bus Tours is a five-star attraction and with the rise of staycations this summer, we offer a fun experience for all the family. We can’t wait for Cobbles to begin duties as our official Edinburgh Bus Tours ambassador just in time for the summer holidays.

“With our kids go free offer on our city tours, we hope to see lots of people chasing Cobble’s tail this summer!”

Edinburgh Bus Tours offer three signature city tours: City Sightseeing, Majestic and the Edinburgh Tour. Adult prices are from £8 and children go free.

Locals can also escape the city with a half day tour on the company’s Three Bridges Tour, led by knowledgeable tour guides to South Queensferry. This tour includes a 90-minute cruise on the Firth of Forth where visitors can get a closer look at the three bridges which cross the River Forth

In April the company launched an official Edinburgh Bus Tours app featuring an interactive map showing live tour times and departures points, as well as a number of city-wide attractions and discounted offers.

Built in-house, the new digital platform will allow users to plan their visit and purchase tour tickets in advance for ease and convenience.

Exploring Edinburgh with Cobbles the Dog

cobbles tour bus edinburgh

Named after the famous cobbled streets of Edinburgh, Cobbles the Scottie Dog is ambassador for the latest family orientated open-top venture from Edinburgh Bus Tours. Richard Walter sampled the Cobbles’ Tour which started on 2 April 2022 to see what it has to offer.

Scotland’s Capital has many must see attractions for tourists and the best way to explore and get your bearings is by taking one of several open-top tours that operate daily throughout the year. Lothian Buses operates Edinburgh Bus Tours which offers regular departures from the centre of Edinburgh. Most are hop on, hop off services each carrying their own distinctive branding: City Sightseeing Edinburgh with multi-language commentary; the live-guided Edinburgh Tour covering Edinburgh’s Old Town and Georgian New Town; the Majestic Tour with multi-language commentary which visits the Royal Botanic Garden and Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith; and the half-day 3 Bridges Tour which offers a 90 minute cruise on the Firth of Forth in addition to the bus tour.

In CBW issue 1482 last year, Jonathan Welch tried out the Majestic Tour just after the easing of lockdowns when open-top tours of the city were starting to carry passengers again – many whom were on staycation breaks. With visitors from abroad starting to appear again as travel restrictions have been lifted, this month saw the launch of a brand new additional city tour offering a one-hour experience for £10, taking in sights such as Edinburgh Castle, the Grassmarket and the Royal Mile.

Sarah Boyd, Operations Director for Lothian Buses, outlined the problems that had been experienced during the pandemic. “Like many operators, the last two years have proved to be exceptionally challenging for Lothian. As international visitors slowly return to the capital and events begin to take place again, we have high hopes for a good summer on Edinburgh Bus Tours.

Cobbles Tour 233 and Edinburgh Castle | by Stuart Montgomery

Cobbles Tour 233 and Edinburgh Castle

Formerly wearing the green and yellow edinburgh tours livery, volvo b5tl / wright gemini 3, number 233 (sj16 ctv) is now proudly a cobbles tour bus, captured on johnstone terrace, under the castle hill. it is so good to walk around the town and feel like a tourist, especially when the sun shines   edinburgh castle is scotland's principal historic fortress which dominates the skyline of the city. archaeologists have established human occupation of the rock since the iron age and there has been a royal castle here since the 12th century. the site continued to be a royal residence until the union of the crowns in 1603.   only a few of the castle buildings pre-date the 16th century, most notably st margaret's chapel which, from the 12th century, is regarded as the oldest building in edinburgh. another is the royal palace and the early-16th-century great hall.   today the castle is in the care of historic scotland and is scotland's most-visited tourist attraction, with around 1.5 million visitors each year. as the backdrop to the edinburgh military tattoo during the annual edinburgh international festival the castle has become the most significant and recognisable symbol of scotland.  .
