# 6 Best Bunk Room Travel Trailers 2023

Travel trailers with bunk beds are popular, but travel trailers with separate bunk room and a private bunk room travel trailer floorplan are not that common.

This time, we reviewed two different floor plans regarding the number of bunk beds. On the one hand, the new 2023 Premier 33BKPR bunk room travel trailer with only 2 bunk beds in a private bedroom and a half bath inside the bunk room. On the other hand, a bunk room travel trailer with 4 bunk beds, the 2023 Imagine 3210BH.

Let’s see these two travel trailers with bunk rooms in detail.

Best Travel Trailer with 4 Bunk Beds for 2023: Grand Design RV Imagine 3210BH Bunk Room

Are you looking for a 2023 travel trailer with 4 bunks? The New 2023 Imagine 3210BH by Grand Design RV has a private bunk room with four bunk beds, organized in a completely private separate bedroom. In other words, the Imagine 3210BH is a Rear Quad Bunkhouse Travel Trailer.

Bunk Room Travel Trailer 2023 Imagine 3210BH review

As you can see in the floor plan below, the 2023 Imagine 3210BH is a travel trailer with a rear bunk room, entirely private for 4 people. The private master queen bedroom is in front of the RV, while the full bath is ensuite and allows a pass-thru to the central area of the camper. So, if you close all the doors for privacy, you will have this amazing travel trailer separated into 2 bedrooms (or 3 bedrooms if you consider the middle section a bedroom when the doors are closed), with a sleeping capacity between 6 and 9 depending on the optional arrangements selected.

# 7 Best Travel Trailers with NO Bunk Beds For 5 to 10 People

In recent conversations with RVers friends, we talked about the new RV floor plans for 2023 and compared some from 2022 , and they were saying, “ Show me a travel trailer without bunks “, and “ There must be travel trailers with no bunk beds ”. That’s right, bunk beds are not a good idea for couples who occasionally receive visitors. We can’t willingly add teenagers if we offer them to sleep on a bunk mat. Let’s face it.

Here, we have two options for 2023 travel trailers with no bunk beds. The new Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan for 2023 , and the well-known Catalina Legacy Edition 343BHTS travel trailer with 2 queen bedrooms were rereleased in 2023 with little upgrades from previous years. Let’s check them out.

Best Travel Trailer Sleeps 5 No Bunk Beds: New 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Floor Plan

Forest River RV recently introduced a new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer floor plan.

Inspired by its most popular travel trailer, the Cherokee Alpha Wolf 26DBH-L, a bunkhouse travel trailer with a queen-sized bed, Forest River presents a new travel trailer floorplan for 2023: The Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer.

As we explained many other times, bunk beds are fine for kids. Still, the comfort may be limited, and it is more versatile for RV owners to have the area that a bunkhouse would occupy and unfold sofas and booth dinettes when needed to increase the sleeping capacity. It is a way to make an investment that does not require changing RV models to accommodate other floor plans needed to adjust to the age of the family members.

The new 2023 Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L travel trailer has a private master queen-size bedroom. In the center of the master bedroom is a queen-sized bed with plenty of room to walk around the bed and nightstands. The bedroom has direct access to the bathroom, and the area can be enclosed with solid doors, giving privacy to the rear of the RV.

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer No Bunk Beds

The bathroom is significant and comfortable, with plenty of storage. The shower is in the corner of the bathroom (radius shower), with hard curved sliding glass doors and a skylight.

Something that we are going to highlight in this new travel trailer, Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L floorplan , is the walk-in pantry that allows having a well-organized and even more minimalist camper .

New Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer Sleeps 5

The kitchen in the corner of the travel trailer is spacious enough to prepare and cook meals. It is not an island kitchen, nor too big, but it has a good proportion according to the number of people that can sleep in this camper (sleeps 5). In addition, there is an outdoor kitchen , which complements very well with the qualities of this travel trailer designed for families or couples who want to host family and friends.

Alpha Wolf 28FKK-L Travel Trailer review

One of the reasons we chose this 2023 camper as one of the best travel trailers 2023 over others is the excellent value for the money (estimated price $39,500). Considering it is a travel trailer that sleeps 5, private rear bedroom, front kitchen, full dry bath with double and a radius shower, two slides-out, outside kitchen, two entry/exit doors, and an excellent length/weight ratio (under 9000 lbs. gross weight and less than 33 feet long), there is an excellent value for the money in this 2023 travel trailer .

Best Travel Trailer for Small Families Flagstaff E-Pro E16BH Travel Trailer Sleeps 4

2023 E-Pro E16BH is a travel trailer with a bunkhouse with two bunk beds (30″x 74″ rear bunkhouse), a full dry bath, and a kitchen slide-out. The u-shaped booth dinette can easily accommodate two people in a 54”x 82” bed at night. This camper is excellent if you are looking for a travel trailer with a bunkhouse and outdoor kitchen. A grill outside and a small fridge will allow you to cook in the shade of a 12-foot-long awning and spend pleasant moments with your family. A characteristic of the E-Pro line that we must point out as an advantage is the number of storage spaces distributed inside and outside the camper. The travel trailer has five external storage compartments and several over-the-head counters.

Although it’s not the most affordable model available (MSRP: $47,863), you’ll receive a lot for your money. For families on the road, this kind of bunkhouse is ideal. Although the trailer is large enough for everyone to have their own room, it is nevertheless manageable on the highways, as it is a bunkhouse travel trailer under 30 feet . The back area is divided, with a complete dry bathroom on one side and a set of bunk beds on the other.

The main bedroom is located in the front portion of this travel trailer. This room has a queen-size bed, nightstands, two closets, and a sizable overhead storage space. Another option for this space is a wall-mounted TV.

The living room and kitchen are merged in the middle part. A generous U-shaped dinette is located in a single carpeted slide-out. Along with a pantry and home refrigerator, the kitchen has all the necessary appliances.

The most popular type of camper or RV on the market is a travel trailer and that being said, there are dozens of travel trailer brands to choose from.

Of course, you’ve probably heard of popular travel trailer brands like Airstream and Grand Design, but what you really need to know is which of these top-rated travel trailers are worth the money and which of these brands should you be avoiding.

After traveling the country in our RV full-time , we’ve got the insider experience on exactly what details everyone needs to consider when buying a travel trailer and which upgrades are actually worth having.

After living in a trailer full-time while traveling the country for 2 years we’ve done our research and know from experience exactly what to look for when buying our next camper.

Keep reading to know all the pros and cons for each of the 7 top-rated travel trailers and jump to Buying Tips for Travel Trailers or Brands to Avoid when buying your next trailer.

1. Airstream Flying Cloud - Travel Trailers

Best for: a luxury travel trailer for couples to families that will last for decades and has the best resale value

best trailer - airstream bambi

Overall Length: 23’ to 30’ (depending on model) GVWR: 6000 to 8800 lbs MSRP : $94,400 to $124,500 Holding Tanks: 37 gal. fresh/37 grey/17 black (model 23FB)

best resale value of all trailer brands

plenty of layouts to choose from for couples to families

most aerodynamic and easy to tow for the size

features for those who work remotely

upgraded and modern appliances

expensive entry price

no slides to give extra floor space

lower clearance not ideal for off-roading

smaller holding tanks than other brands on this list

There isn’t a more iconic travel trailer than the Airstream, and for good reason. No other trailer is going to hold its value, especially not over decades like the Airstream will.

Airstreams aren’t just a collector’s item either, they are actually built incredibly well from the aerodynamic “aircraft grade” aluminum alloy frame to the modern appliances and technology.

The “Flying Cloud” series has more floor plans than any other model and is perfect for couples to families alike. Yes, it is expensive, but no other travel trailer will hold its value like the Airstream. Even the second highest-rated travel trailer on this list (Lance) usually drops 30-50% in price after just 2 years, while Airstream takes 10+ years to drop that much in price.

While you can opt for the less expensive models of Airstream like the Bambi and Caravel, I think their features are lacking for the price and they are only suitable in size for couples. The Flying Cloud comes stock with the front rock guard, a walk-around queen-size bed, larger holding tanks, a tandem axle, a larger fridge, and more cargo-carrying capacity.

2. Lance Travel Trailers (all models)

Top Feature: The best quality built trailer for the money

best travel trailers 2023

Overall Length: 20’ to 30’ GVWR: 4500 lbs to 8900 lbs MSRP : starting at $45,000 (smallest model) Holding Tanks: 45 fresh/40 grey/40 black (gal.)

built incredibly well and for longevity

can buy used for a much better price than Airstream

larger holding tanks

smaller sizes also have slide options

great for winter camping

too heavy for most SUVs to tow these trailers

not as many layout options for families

Lance has carried the legacy of making top-rated truck campers for decades and since 2009 they have expanded to making travel trailers with the same expert quality.

Lance really goes for the details like making the entire cabinet out of real wood so it doesn’t fall apart on your first road trip (if you know, you know).

While there are a few reasons Airstream stays away from slides on a trailer, Lance is actually one of the few brands that reinforce the slides with quality construction so they don’t leak or jam on you after a year or two of consistent use.

Lance Travel Trailers also come standard with an All-Weather Package for 4 season camping, Goodyear radial tires, tinted Thermopane windows, and a front opening window for stargazing. You can also add the solar package with 190-watt panels, a 1500W inverter, and lithium batteries. The entry price for most models is going to be less than Airstream, but you won’t find the same resale value as you will with an Airstream. With that said, that also means you can find used 2017-2020 models in great condition for around $25,000-$30,000.

3. Grand Design Reflection Series

Best for: a high-end and spacious travel trailer for full-time living

best travel trailer for families

Overall Length: 33’10” to 37'11" GVWR: 9,995 lb to 11,295 lb MSRP : starting at $50,000 Holding Tanks: 54 fresh/86 grey/43 black (gal.)

incredible quality and design for the price

large 16.4 cubic ft residential fridge

washer/dryer prepped

slides are in perfect location to feel extra roomy

roof-mounted solar panels are standard on select models

rig is fairly large to be towing more than once a month

bunk models only offer a queen size master bed

small holding tanks for families that also plan to dry camp

Grand Design is one of the higher-end RV brands and they somehow can make luxury still affordable.

Their travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers offer the perfect layout for couples and families alike. Grand Design keeps its interior design modern yet classic with a quality-built frame, cabinets, and furniture.

The Reflection series is nice for those who plan to stay in place for longer periods of time given their large bodies, numerous slides, and residential features like the large electric-only fridge.

If you are looking for a travel trailer that is easier to tow and better for traveling more often, take a look at their Imagine series.

The Reflection 312BHTS model seems to be the perfect layout for either a family or remote working couple as the bunkhouse can be converted to your needs.

It offers a fridge that is the same size you’d find in most homes, a washer/dryer option, and 3 slides that open up the living space significantly. Additionally, there is a full entertainment system with a 40” TV, fireplace, and theater seating.

4. Northwood Artic Fox - Travel Trailers

Top Feature: best built trailer for cold winters

best travel trailer

Overall Length: 23’10” to 34’4″ GVWR: 7500 lb to 11,000 lb MSRP : starting at $52,000 Holding Tanks: 50 fresh/42 grey/35 black (22G model)

best built trailer for full-time living in all seasons

large holding tanks for dispersed camping

Aerodynamic One Piece Front Cap

layouts aren’t good for families

some interior models look a little rustic

If there is one thing Northwood Mfg is most proud of, it’s their superior construction of travel trailers.

They are one of the very few “true” 4-season travel trailers to withstand RVing in the cold winters and the build there trailers with quality in mind first vs looks.

The aerodynamic, aluminum frame makes a significance difference in lessening trailer sway and drag when you’re towing this large of a trailer.

Additionally, because Northwood prides themselves on quality, you’ll find luxury upgrades throughout like a real porcelain toilet, heated holding tanks in fully enclosed underbelly, Goodyear tires, extremely nice cabinets made with residential frame construction and real wood cabinet/drawer fronts.

A small solar panels comes stock, but we’d recommend the upgrading to add 400 watts of solar panels or the generator if you plan on going off-grid in your trailer.

5. inTech RV Terra

Best for: those who like the Airstream but need a more affordable price

bestTravelTrailers_intech-terra-rover.jpeg

GVWR: 7500 lbs Overall Length: 26’ MSRP : $61,600 Holding Tanks: 44 fresh/39 grey/39 black (gal.)

built on an all-aluminum frame

Rover models adds 3” lift

aerodynamic making it easier to tow

off-grid package adds 400W of solar and 200aH lithium battery

not enough outdoor storage

the bathroom and shower space is tight

no bedroom door

If you like the quality, look, and longevity of an Airstream, but don’t want to spend the money, the inTech Terra travel trailers are a great option!

They are made with a high-end all-aluminum fully welded cage frame that is lightweight, corrosion resistant, and incredibly durable.

While small, the multiple wrap around windows and sleek cabinetry make the trailer seem much bigger. Other standards I really like are the heated underbelly and tank heaters, the extremely durable woven flooring, and the two oversized twin bed option.

While there is plenty of cargo carrying capacity, there isn’t much outdoor storage space. Another con is the shower space is very small, but I personally don’t care as I’m not spending much time in the shower when I’m out camping.

The Terra is offered in a smaller 22’ model (Magnolia) and the 26’ model (Willow) . The biggest different is the bed layout and room to walk around the bed.

With either model, I’d recommend going with the Rover package to get +3” of ground clearance, blackout wheels and better tires. Additionally, the off-grid package is very nice as it’ll add 400 watts of solar panels, (2) 100aH lithium batteries, and a 2000W inverter.

6. Opus OP 15

Best for: Families who enjoy serious off-road adventures with top-end features

best travel trailer off road

Overall Length: 23’ GVWR: 6393 lbs MSRP : $59,900 Holding Tanks: 60 fresh/17 grey/10 black (gal.)

best off-road capabilities and upgrades

huge freshwater tank

300 watts roof-mounted solar panels

king size master bed and twin bunk beds

kitchen is outside

only walls for separation are for the bathroom

longer setup time

This travel trailer was specifically designed to be the best off-road trailer for a family of four.

Between the king-size bed, twin bunk beds, full bathroom, and complete kitchen setup you aren’t going to be missing out on much.

When towing off-road, you cannot beat having the OP15’s galvanized and welded stainless steel chassis, a trailing arm suspension with dual shock absorbers, stone guard, and two spare full-size tires.

Knowing families will be going off-road and therefore off-grid, the OP 15 comes stock with 300 watts of solar mounted on the roof and 3x 100ah AGM batteries or you can upgrade to Lithium batteries (which we highly recommend).

While an outdoor kitchen isn’t as ideal this one at least comes fully loaded with a slide-out 4-burner stove, sink, prep deck, a lockable pantry, and a 12v (75gal) Fridge/Freezer combo.

SOON! The new 2024 OP16 will be on the market and has an indoor kitchen

This trailer does offer many amenities and an expanding footprint that most off-road trailers don’t, but it does mean the setup and breakdown are going to take longer. Personally, I do think it’s worth the added time and effort.

7. Outdoors RV Trail Series 27TRX

Best for: those wanting to haul toys and need a durable trailer for off-road adventures

best travel trailers 2023

Overall Length: 33’2” GVWR: 13,995 lb MSRP : $75,000 Holding Tanks: 100 fresh/65 grey/40 black (gal.) Fuel Tank: 40 gallons

extremely durable and built for the off-road

a “true” 4-season weather package

roof-mounted 170 watt solar panel comes standard

8’x11’ storage space for side by side or motorcycles

smaller company that cannot produce as many

semi-outdated interior design

no slides to give a larger living space

Outdoors RV is a fairly new Oregon-based company that started in 2009, but they have quickly made a name for itself as being built incredibly well.

They specifically set out to create the best travel trailers that are designed for the rugged mountain states and western Canada. Meaning they have a true 4-season weather package to withstand harsh winters and come standard with high-end 16″ G range GoodYear tires, an off-road x4 MorRyde suspension, and 6800lb axles to give you peace of mind when going off the beaten path.

When it comes to fun, you can easily load up your toys on the non-slip ramp and you’ll be all set with the onboard Cummins Onan 4K Generator and 40 gallon fuel station.

Once you’re at camp, turn the ramp into a fully surrounded patio with its own entry step and rear awning.

And if you are worried about having to close up the patio every time you leave the trailer behind, no need, as this model is built with a sliding rear patio door with a tint and lock.

Travel Trailer Brands to Avoid

If you’re in the market for a new RV, you will do best by avoiding travel trailers made by Palomino and the RV giant known as Forest River.

Keep in mind Forest River also owns and makes 45+ additional trailer brands like Cherokee, Rockwood, Wolf Pup, and R-pod which I would also stay away from. It goes without saying quantity far surpasses quality for the Forest River brand.

I know the affordable price tag for most of their travel trailers can be attractive, but these are the travel trailers I see people regret buying as they tend to break down after a year and don’t hold their value after two years.

I’d also recommend staying away from travel trailer models with terms like “ultra-lite” or “half-ton” as usually these are made with more plywood than wood and lower quality flooring, insulation, and paneling to make them lighter while still being larger.

Tips - Buying a Travel Trailer

Know your tow vehicle : IMPORTANT! you must know the towing capacity and payload of your tow vehicle before you buy a trailer. Ideally, you want a trailer with a GVWR that doesn’t exceed 85% of your vehicle's towing capacity so you aren’t putting as much strain on your vehicle’s transmission or brakes. For example, if your truck or SUV says it has a 5000 lb towing capacity, you will want to aim for trailer with a GVWR of 4250lbs or less. The GVWR will include the weight of the trailer itself, any items or gear you put into the trailer when towing, and the weight of the water in your holding tanks when towing.

How much water do you need : most people don’t realize having bigger holding tanks for fresh, grey, and black is a huge benefit when camping. Unless you plan to stay at RV parks with full hookups or only camp 2 nights at a time, you should consider having a freshwater tank that holds at least 25 gallons for 2 people. Personally, we average about 2 gallons of water per person per day (from consumption to cleaning).

Decide if you’ll need higher clearance : do you plan to go boondocking or down dirt roads with your travel trailer? If so, you are going to want a travel trailer with higher clearance and upgrade to all-terrain tires.

Length restraints: Obviously the bigger the trailer the more space and features it can have, but that also comes with a price. The longer the trailer the more complicated it is to park and the likelihood it will sway when towing. Most campgrounds, especially state and national parks, have very few (if any) spots for trailers over 30 feet long. Lastly, if you plan to park your trailer at home when not camping, make sure your HOA doesn’t have restrictions.

Explore the trailer in person: go to an RV dealer, or even better, an RV expo so you can physically get inside and test different travel trailers to know what you really need vs want.

Make a list of your must-haves: it can get overwhelming when looking at so many different models so create a spreadsheet of the different models you’re interested in and note if they have your wants/needs.

Final Thoughts:

I suggest going into Facebook groups or googling the specific RV you’re interested in to see forums (such as Reddit) of current owners and their thoughts before buying any RV.

There are always bad apples, but if you are reading more bad than good experiences that should be your warning sign.

Feel free to comment below if you have questions about a specific travel trailer brand or model and we’ll let you know if we have any experiences with it to help you in your buying decision.

The 15 Best Travel Trailers for 2024

Traveling doesn’t mean having to step foot in a frenzied airport. In fact, there’s never been a better time to go camping. With the right travel trailer, you can easily leave the city behind without having to deal with anyone other than your nearest and dearest. Today’s featured-packed caravans are nothing like those you rode in as a kid, either. Not only do they look good, but they’re packed with enough luxury features that you’ll feel right at home, no matter where you are.

We’re also at the point where there’s a trailer for practically every kind of camper, regardless of what vehicle they drive. If you’re the kind of person who likes the classics, there are multiple aluminum-sided Airstream and Bowlus models to choose from. Want to bring as much of your home on the road with you? How about Living Vehicle or Land Ark’s mammoth condos on wheels? There are also caravans you can take off-road with your 4×4 and ultra-light and compact models you can tow with an EV. Some can even be turned into a mobile office if you want to mix work and play. Below are 15 travel trailers that will allow you to take to the road in just about any way you can imagine.

Our Best Travel Trailer Picks

Best overall: living vehicle hd24, best for luxury lovers: bowlus endless highways performance edition, best for off-road enthusiasts: mammoth overland extinction level event.

Best under 5,000 pounds: happier camper hc1.

A rear 3/4 view of the Living Vehicle HD24

If you want a better understanding of how far travel trailers have come over the decades, just look at the Living Vehicle lineup. The Santa Barbara-based company’s boxy trailers are basically mini apartments you can take with you on the road. Our favorite might be the new HD24, which is far from the company’s biggest offering, but comes with all the amenities you could need at the campground—and then some.

The all-electric model, which starts at $299,995, may measure only 24 feet, but its minimalist interior still has more than enough for a bedroom, kitchen, entertainment area, and a bathroom with a dedicated shower. One particularly clutch feature is a five-by-eight-foot multi-purpose space that can be used as an office, guest room, or laundry room. If that wasn’t enough, the top-of-the-line Pro variant has a solar-assisted power system that can keep the trailer running for up to a month off the grid.

The Living Vehicle HD24 entertainment area

Special Features:   —Trailer can be configured to include a laundry room, office, or guest room. —Interior has a clean minimalist look and comes packed with premium amenities. —Range-topping Pro version’s power system produces enough energy for 30 days of off-the-grid living,

The Bowlus Endless Highways Performance Edition from the side

It may not be the most famous shiny caravan maker—that would be Airstream—but Bowlus is the company that gave us the first riveted travel trailer. The company, which was revived in 2014, knows not to mess with a good thing, so its well-regarded trailers—like our favorite, the  Endless Highways Performance Edition —look just like those it produced in the 1930s, only bigger and with better materials (think: alclad aluminum for the exterior and birchwood for the interior).

Despite its classic look, the $225,000 trailer has all the conveniences you expect in 2022, including heat and air-conditioning systems, a WiFi modem and plenty of outlets for charging all your smart devices. Best of all, though, might be a lithium iron phosphate that gives you the ability to live off the grid for two peaceful weeks. If you’re an animal lover, there’s also the  Terra Firma , which features a bunch of Fido-friendly features like a built-in food bowl, pet bed and remote temperature control system.

Inside the Bowlus Volterra

Special Features:  —Thee’s a double-sided indoor galley and an outdoor cooking area with electric and propane outlets. —The hotel-style shower has teak flooring and seating. —Lithium iron phosphate power system can keep the entire trailer running for up to two weeks.

A front 3/4 view of the Mammoth Overland Extinction Level Event

Mammoth Overland’s latest model is a burly off-road trailer designed to withstand anything it encounters in nature. The appropriately named Extinction Level Event (ELE) rides on a set of chunky all-terrain tires and has an angular aluminum body reinforced with steel armor and skid plates. If that doesn’t sound like enough, you can upgrade to Level 3 bullet-proof armor. There’s also a built-in bear spray system too, for added security. The ELE, which starts at $67,000, is pretty compact since it’s a tear-drop trailer, but it can comfortably sleep two and has an integrated workstation inside its cabin. There’s also a swing-out kitchenette in the back for cooking.

The Mammoth Overland Extinction Level Event's swing-out kitchenette

Special Features:   —Comes with a built-in bear spray system and is available with bullet-proof armor. —Despite its compact size, the interior cabin still has room for a built-in workstation. —The swing-out kitchenette isn’t big, but has everything you need to cook a delicious meal.

Best Overall: Airstream Globetrotter

Airstream Globetrotter

One brand leaps to mind when most of us think about travel trailers—Airstream. Its iconic aluminum-sided caravans have been instrumental in popularizing road trips and  camping  in the US for decades. One need only look at the company’s  Globetrotter  model to see why: In addition to looking beautiful, the silver-covered caravan is packed with creature comforts to keep you traveling comfortably. It’s not the brand’s largest model—that would be the flagship  Classic —but it’s available with one of six different floor plans, each of which has room for a spacious entertainment area (that can sleep up to four adults).

Inside you’ll find a full-featured kitchen, half-bathroom, shower and sizable bedroom with either a queen-sized bed or two twins. As you would expect from Airstream, the amenities are top-rate, too, like Franke faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, stainless steel appliances, Quietstream climate control system and multiple LG LED TVs. The Globetrotter starts at $120,000. If it doesn’t fit the bill, the brand has plenty of other models to choose from, including collaboration editions like the  extra-homey Pottery Barn Edition  or their  ultra-rare Supreme edition .

Airstream Globetrotter

Special Features: —There are different floor plans to choose from, each of which features a full kitchen, half bathroom and dedicated shower. —The Quietstream climate control system barely makes a peep, even when the heater or A/C is running. —A built-in canopy provides shade when you want to spend time outside.

The W2 Romotow T8

Good things come to those who wait. More than a decade after it was first announced, the Romotow T8 is finally available to order. The 30.5-foot caravan, which was designed by New Zealand-based architecture and design firm W2, has two main components—a fixed chassis and a smaller living space that fits just inside of it. When the $268,500 trailer is parked, the cabin slides out at the touch of a button and can be rotated 90 degrees like a swiveling USB stick. When rotated like this, the hydraulic-powered chassis can then be used as a patio. While this unique design may be the vehicle’s main selling point, its interior cabin comes with all the features you need and has enough room for six adults.

Inside the W2 Romotow T8

Special Features:   —Unique rotating design is unlike anything else currently on the trailer market. —The living area is large enough to sleep up to six adults. — Hydraulic patio comes with an integrated deck set.

Escapod Topo2

The  Escapod Topo2  is a trailer for anyone looking to take their camping trip off road with minimal fuss. The brand’s update of the classic teardrop trailer is an off-road-friendly model without any of the bulk. Unlike most of the trailers on this list, Escapod’s bedroom and kitchen area are separated from one another. The dedicated sleeping area has room for a queen-size mattress and is equipped with a stargazer window so you can really take in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. The galley, meanwhile, is only accessible from outside the $39,500 trailer, but has ample counter space for meal prep and cooking. Both sections get their power from a VPR 4EVER lithium ion battery with some solar panels to help keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

Escapod Topo2

Special Features: —Exterior is made from a single-piece of composite fiberglass that is rugged and weather-resistant. —Laser-cut tube steel frame should last for years. —Bedroom’s stargazer window offers up a beautiful view of your surroundings.

The Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp's ERV Electric Camper

It was only a matter of time until the  electric revolution  made its way to the world of trailers and campers.  Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp’s ERV  is a rugged trailer that also happens to run entirely on battery power. Roof-mounted solar panels provide juice for a 14.3-kWh lithium battery that keeps the trailer’s many appliances running. And while the trailer is perfectly equipped for some off-road fun, thanks to a specially tuned suspension and all-terrain tires, it also packs all of the comforts of a luxe hotel room inside, including a bathroom, spacious seating area and master bedroom suite with a king-sized bed and closets. But the true highlight may be the $75,000 caravan’s full-size kitchen, which features an induction cooktop, fridge and washing machine. There’s also a Weber electric barbecue and slow cooker for making your meals outdoors.

The interior of the ERV electric cabin

Special Features: —Solar panels and 14.3-kWh battery power the trailer and let you go off grid. —A specially tuned suspension and large all-terrain tires let you go off-road. —The primary bedroom has enough room for a king-size bed and its own closets.

Eriba Touring 820

Are you looking for an aluminum-sided trailer that looks like more than just another Airstream or Bowlus’s rip-off? If so, the  Eriba Touring 820  might fit the bill. The company’s top-of-the-line caravan updates the classic silver bullet look with a retro-futuristic shape and details. Even more impressive, though, is the 27-foot-trailer’s interior. The company has packed it full of luxury amenities like a sizable, leather-covered lounge area (that can be converted into a bed), customizable mood lighting and a surprisingly fashionable bathroom. The true highlight, though, is a bedroom with a large panoramic window that offers up a gorgeous views of your surroundings. That’s good, too, since you might not actually want to leave the $88,500 trailer.

Eriba Touring 820

Special Features: —The kitchen has a mini wine cellar for keeping your best bottles at the ready. —The leather-upholstered entertainment area can be converted into an additional sleeping area at night. —Adjustable mood lighting will help you feel at home no matter where you are.

The Land Ark Drake

Almost more of a portable house than a trailer, the  Land Ark Drake  basically lets you take all the comforts of home on the road. The gigantic, yet stylish, two-level, 357-square-feet trailer can comfortably sleep seven adults. Stark and modern on the outside, the trailer features an equally clean white-washed pine and black metal decorated interior. Across its two floors, it has room for a full-sized kitchen, living room and bathroom (which includes a bathtub), along with two loft bedrooms and an office which can also be converted to a sleeping area. Its $139,000 starting price may sound a lot for a trailer, but for a two-story house on wheels it’s not that bad.

Inside the The Land Ark Drake

Special Features: —The two-level design means you have 357-square-feet of space. —Downstairs bathroom includes a tub for when you need to take a relaxing soak. —It has a primary bedroom and two loft-style sleeping areas.

A front 3/4 view of the Pebble Flow

There are plenty of EV-friendly travel trailers on the market at this point, but none are nicer to an electric powertrain than the Pebble Flow, which starts at $109,000. The futuristic vehicle is available with an optional propulsion that includes two electric motors—one situated on each wheel—to help make sure its 6,200-pound weight isn’t eating up all your battery-powered vehicle’s range. That’s far from the Flow’s only forward-thinking feature though. The trailer also comes with an “Instacamp” system that can be used to park the vehicle and set up camp (which includes leveling out the vehicle, deploying its staircase, and turning on the lights). The unique feature can also be triggered remotely via Pebble’s smartphone app.

Inside the Pebble Flow

Special Features:   —An optional propulsion system means it can even be towed by EVs. —Unique “Instacamp” system allows you to park the vehicle remotely via the company’s smartphone app. — Solar-assisted battery pack produces enough power for a week of off-the-grid living.

Colorado Teardrops Boulder travel trailer

There are EV-friendly trailers and then there’s  Colorado Teardrops’s Boulder . Not only is the company’s latest designed to be towed by a battery-powered SUV or truck, it can also charge your EV’s battery. That ability comes courtesy a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in DC fast charger that will give you some much needed peace of mind out on the open road. At the very least, it gives you the freedom to come up with a route centered around sights instead of charging stations. Aside from this very vital feature, the compact caravan has everything two adults and two children need to live off the grid for a for a few days, including a comfortable queen-sized mattress, two bunk beds (for the kids), an enclosed kitchenette and an optional climate control system. The $55,000 trailer also comes in a variety of two-tone color schemes that all look pretty sharp.

Colorado Teardrops Boulder travel trailer

Special Features: —Doesn’t just ease the burden on your EV’s battery; it can charge it, too. —A unique bunk-bed design creates room for four people to sleep (two adults and two children). —The enclosed kitchenette has plenty of counter space.

Hunter Nature Raptor XC

A big trailer can be a godsend on the campground, especially if you’re traveling with family or friends. The problem, of course, is getting the hulking vehicle there. No matter how experienced the driver, maneuvering a large caravan can be very tricky. Luckily there are trailers like  Hunter Nature’s Raptor XC . The brand’s angular model looks compact but features a pull-out section that just about doubles the size of its interior. When it’s fully extended you’ll have more than enough room for a dedicated living area, kitchen and bedroom. This will come in handy if there’s more than two in your traveling party, too. That’s because the $44,000 trailer’s entertainment area can easily be converted into an additional sleeping area at night.

The Hunter Nature Raptor XC's main living area and slide-out bedroom

Special Features: —An expanding segment turns this trailer into a multi-room cabin. —The bedroom has a large skylight so you can see the stars at night. —A spacious lounge can be converted into an additional sleeping area if you need more room.

Best for Design Obsessives: X-Cabin300

The X-Cabin300 travel trailer

Silver trailers don’t all need to be bullet-shaped as nice as the classic Airstream may look. Just take a gander at the X-Cabin300. The all-aluminum vehicle has a boxy shape that looks both classic and modern. The Japanese-made caravan is compact, but comes with four different interior layouts designed to meet your varied needs (it can even be used as a food truck). The $50,000 trailer is smaller than most—it measures just seven feet tall, seven feet wide, and 15 feet long—and only tips the scales at 1,650 pounds, which means a compact SUV can even tow it.

X-Cabin300 travel trailer with a canopy attached

Special Features:   —A refreshing spin on the classic all-aluminum travel trailer. —Available with four different interior layouts. —Small and light enough to be towed by a compact SUV.

The exterior of the Taxa Mantis

It can be hard to find a trailer that fits everyone’s needs, but the  Taxa Mantis  comes close. Its no-nonsense design means it fits with nearly anyone’s style. Thanks to a pop-up roof section, ingenious use of space and plenty of storage compartments, the Mantis has all the room you and your friends and family need to camp in comfort, which can be crucial on longer trips. It’s also got all the necessary features, including a bathroom with a built-in shower, water heater, kitchenette and 8,000 BTU air conditioner. The trailer, which starts at $46,000, is ideal for off-roading, but there’s a  special Overland edition  if you want something even more rugged.

Inside the Taxa Outdoor Mantis 5.1 Overland

Special Features: —A pop-up roof means you don’t have to sleep in the kitchen if you don’t want to. —There’s a built-in water heater and climate control system with a 8,000 BTU air conditioner. —It comes with a built-in canopy for outdoor hangouts.

The exterior of the Happier Camper HC1

Imagine if you didn’t need a truck or SUV to tow your trailer. You don’t if the caravan in question is Happier Camper’s compact  HC1 . The Los Angeles-based outfit’s smallest model is as light as they come, with a dry weight of just 1,100 pounds, meaning it can be towed by practically any car, even a modern-day Mini Cooper. It features a semi-modular interior designed by Adaptiv that can be customized to fit your camping style—components snap in like Legos—with either a full kitchen or enough sleeping room for up to five people. You can even add solar panels if you want to go off the grid. The $34,450 trailer’s old-school design is also sure to stand out on practically any campground. Even better, no pickups needed.

Inside the Happier Camper HC1

Special Features: —At only 1,100 pounds, it can be towed by just about any car. —The semi-modular floor plan allows you to arrange the interior to accommodate your camping style. —The larger rear hatch opens up space when you are entertaining.

No Remodel Needed: The Best Designed 2023 Travel Trailers

This post may contain affiliate links.

We can’t all be professional RV renovators, taking old trailers from bland to beautiful. This article shares some of the best-designed 2023 travel trailers that you don’t have to renovate.

Before and after RV renovations fill up my Instagram feed. While they feed my imagination (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love looking at beautiful RVs), renovations can take a lot of time and cost a lot of money.

best travel trailers 2023

The good news is, RV manufacturers are taking notice.

This year, we’re seeing more and more manufacturers designing thoughtful (and downright classy) interiors. We’re seeing less brown and more white, less carpet, and more flush flooring.

We’ve compiled a list of eight of the best-designed 2023 travel trailers that will require no renovating at all.

Why Do So Many RVers Do Remodels?

Because most travel trailers (and other towable RVs) come standard with the typical dark brown cabinetry, dark brown furniture, and brown-colored walls, RVers get tired of seeing so much brown.

For decades RVs have been a sea of brown—brown cabinets, brown furniture, and brown wallpaper. If there’s something that can possibly have a color in an RV, it will be brown. The majority of renovations that take place strip away all the brown and replace it with something brighter.

Many opt to brighten the interior spaces by painting the walls white and accenting with colors on the cabinetry. Another popular upgrade is moving from small RV sinks to beautiful bowls and switching from the standard RV sofa to a more comfortable option from IKEA .

Perhaps more than anything else, renovating an RV makes it feel like your own space. RVers want to feel like they’re in their home (because they are).

How Expensive Are RV Remodels?

Remodels can vary tremendously in price depending on the project.

If you’re switching out the U-shaped dinette seating for storage benches and a couple of chairs, the reno isn’t going to cost much. If this is something you’re interested in, here’s a comprehensive list of how different RVers have swapped out their dinette booth.

If you’re looking to gut your entire trailer, go through the process of painting the interior , cabinets, and ceiling, and replace furniture, fixtures, and hardware, your renovation will easily be in the thousands. RV Love wrote a great article here citing their full renovation that cost $12,000 to complete.

However, it’s not just the cost that can make remodeling an RV a headache. It also takes a lot of time and energy. If you’re spending nights and weekends knee-deep in removing an RV toilet, you might start reconsidering why you started this reno in the first place.

8 Best 2023 Travel Trailers You Won’t Need to Renovate

But alas, there’s a better way!

You can now find 2023 travel trailers that won’t require ripping apart your upholstery as soon as you drive it off the lot.

While the majority of RVs are still sporting the dreaded brown, a select few have taken leaps forward in creating a space that feels like a home on wheels.

Let’s take a look at eight inspiring 2023 travel trailers that are stylish and chic while still remaining functional.

The 10 Best Camper Trailers of 2023

taxa outdoors tigermoth overland

From solo travelers to couples, families, and groups, here are the most reliable, enjoyable camper trailers for road trips and overland adventures.

Touring the country is a magnificent and popular adventure. Using a camper trailer is an economical way of getting around for long and short journeys. It can be less expensive than hotels, requires less maintenance and upkeep than a motorhome, and the tow vehicle can be used for trail and around-the-city duties.

Well-constructed trailers allow us to venture through and settle in closer to nature, away from everyday distractions. Setups with solar panels, battery power, water tanks, and propane help us go even further off-grid and stay untethered longer.

After testing a wide variety of camper trailers, our team narrowed it down to the top 10 designs that suit a wide variety of trip goals and needs. If you have questions about camper trailers, check out the buyer’s guide and FAQ at the end of this article. Otherwise, hop to a category that interests you or scroll through our picks:

Why You Can Trust GearJunkie

We get that people want the best value on gear before spending their hard-earned money. Our expert team carefully selects the products we cover and vigorously researches (and tests) our top choices. Bottom line: The GearJunkie staff is dedicated to exhaustive analysis and helping our readers make informed choices.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose a Camper Trailer

The dry weight of the camper trailers listed in our guide ranges from 1,458 to 6,122 pounds. That weight typically excludes water, gas, batteries, or additional accessories like rooftop tents and racks. Pay attention to the dry weight of the camper so you can determine if the build is within the payload of your vehicle.

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum total weight the trailer can safely weigh. The GVWR includes the dry weight, also known as the curb weight, plus the weight of people, accessories, supplies, and all your outdoor gear.

The GVWR of these trailer picks ranges from 2,200 to 10,000 pounds. You’ll need the GVWR so that you can calculate how much equipment you can safely haul in the trailer on the road, as well as how many people can sleep inside.

Clearance & Tires

If you plan on driving through rugged terrain that would require 4WD, you should invest in a trailer with generous ground clearance and off-road tires , and consider an articulating hitch to prevent toppling over on uneven terrain. Sturdier tires can also provide better traction on slick roads with snow or rain.

The ground clearance of the off-road models on our list range from 1.5 to 1.9 feet on the Timberleaf Classic Teardrop Trailer , Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper , Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , and Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Overland .

When we take a close look at tires, the TigerMoth Overland is outfitted with the 225/75R16 ( Cooper Tires Discoverer AT3 LT ), offering a tread guard against rocks and gravel, extreme durability, and solid grip on wet roads or trails.

By comparison, the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Tires, which are great for towing stability and a high load capacity but are not ideal for rough terrain.

Sleep Space

At a minimum, our favorite compact travel trailers offer space for two people to sleep. A portion of these designs include cabins with a nonconvertible queen-size bed. Other trailer designs have options for a couch-to-bed conversion, like the TigerMoth Overland or Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 , or a structure that supports a rooftop tent.

The larger travel trailers on our list feature a range of comfortable overnight options. The designs range from daytime couches and fold-down Murphy beds to bunk beds to dinettes that transform into a bed. If you’re a taller or wider person, pay attention to the specific bed size.

For instance, the Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS has a full queen-size mattress, whereas some trailers will have a narrower queen-size mattress. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2306BHS also has a bunk bed that can fold up, so more space is available for storage when the bed isn’t needed.

Also, not all mattresses are created equal. The pad in the TigerMoth Overland is firm with no cushion or give. However, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 features a high-density memory foam mattress, and the Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB has a pillow-top memory foam mattress.

Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer - bed size

A handful of the tidiest travel trailers have indoor space that’s solely dedicated to a queen-size bed and cubbies. Other tight trailers have beds that convert into a daytime couch or even have a table that can be easily installed. We like that even when the couch is pulled down into a bed in the TigerMoth Overland , there’s still a space to pull our shoes on and off.

Many trailers include an awning, which becomes a gem when you consider how much more space everyone will have to lounge out of the sun and rain at camp. Larger travel trailers typically have indoor sofas and dining tables that often convert into a bed.

Pricier, larger travel trailers have indoor kitchens with a range of features. Inside, you’ll often find a microwave, refrigerator, freezer, oven, sink, two- or three-burner stove, cabinets, countertop space, and dining table.

More compact, less expensive travel trailers have outdoor kitchens, and there’s a variety of unique designs. A galley organizes the kitchen area on the back of the rig, like on the Timberleaf Classic Off-Road Teardrop Trailer .

Other designs have pull-out drawers or fold-down units with the pantry, stove, sink, or countertop like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 or the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer .

Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 - kitchen

The spacious travel trailers on our list have indoor bathrooms with a toilet and standup shower. Tinier travel trailers don’t have an indoor bathroom, but a handful have an outdoor shower head with warm water hookups like the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 and Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper .

If your camper trailer doesn’t have an indoor bathroom and you’re posted up in a remote place, be sure to research that location’s human waste and Leave No Trace requirements — whether that means digging a cathole or using a WAG bag.

Interior Storage

Interior storage space is great for organizing apparel, cosmetics, electronics, and other comforts. Inside, travel trailers often feature storage space like shelves and cubbies, but not all offer a latch system to hold items in place while driving around.

There can also be storage space beneath the mattress. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer had an aluminum interior frame, which extended onto the doors, with numerous holes to clip carabiners, hang dish towels, or slide in hangers to dry gear like our dense wetsuits .

Larger travel trailers usually have ample storage space, including cubbies beneath sofas, cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen, and even hanging closets.

Exterior Storage

Outside, tidy travel trailers can also have a toolbox, tongue box, or racks for storing gear and equipment. Large travel trailers also often have storage compartments facing outward, which sometimes include pass-through storage space.

Doors & Windows

We really appreciate it when the doors and windows are built to last in a travel trailer. One of the most unique door configurations is on the Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer . There’s a back door that swings open and a second door that opens upward like the gullwing doors on the DMC DeLorean in “Back to the Future.” Nearly the entire wall serves as a sturdy canopy.

Windows are great for allowing ample light and can help a space feel bigger, but shades are equally important for privacy and to block out the light of the full moon or campground lamp. Slide-down shades can black out the inside of the trailer, and bug screens can enable airflow regardless of bug activity. It’s also nice to have windows that can be locked when they’re cracked.

Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer - doors

Electric, Solar, Gas, and Water

You’ll need to closely consider how much energy and resources you’ll need between trips to a gas station, store, or an overnight stay with shore power.

Even if you don’t plan to charge your laptop or watch television — an option in larger travel trailers — it’s nice to have battery power. The battery can run indoor and outdoor LED lights around the kitchen and doors, as well as the roof exhaust fan — and it can charge up phones. Many travel trailers feature a prewired solar inlet to get an energy boost off solar panels, too.

Each trailer will have a specific capacity for gas and water carry. For instance, the Off Grid Trailers Expedition 2.0 water tank boasts a 31-gallon capacity. The Vorsheer XOC Extreme Overland Camper has upgrade options for a 30-gallon water tank and bonus storage that holds two extra 5-gallon jerry cans. The Taxa Outdoors TigerMoth Camper Trailer holds one 5-gallon jerry can.

In contrast, larger travel trailers have a greater water capacity, in great part to manage the bathroom. The Black Series HQ19 comes with a 50-gallon water tank for supply, a 26-gallon gray water tank for collection (for all used water except from the toilet), and a 26-gallon black water tank for all toilet waste.

Often trailers include an indoor smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide detector.

How much weight can you tow?

Check your vehicle’s door jamb or owner’s manual for the payload, max towing, and tongue weight rating. Be sure not to exceed those caps with what’s hauled in the trailer and in the vehicle.

What camper trailer features allow off-road capability?

If you intend to off-road with your trailer, be sure to pick one with durable, all-terrain tires that can handle paved, gravel, dirt, and rocky surfaces. Look for a steel frame, ample clearance, axleless suspension, burly fenders, and articulating hitch.

How long do camper trailers last?

Most camper trailers will last between 10 and 15 years. However, numerous factors determine the lifespan of a camper trailer, and the most unpredictable is the human element. Outside elements that affect the lifespan of a camper trailer include the original design, build quality, usage, and storage when not traveling.

Assuming it is a quality-built trailer, is stored properly when not in service, and received regular maintenance, it’s normal to see camper trailers in use after 15 years from when it was bought brand new.

Everybody has different needs when it comes to buying a camper. Need a trailer that fits in your garage and sleeps a family of four, or a mobile ski chalet? There’s no rig that does it all, but chances are, there’s one that’s damn near perfect for you on the market now.

How We Test

Between attending overland expo shows to tour the latest rigs and testing demo trailers on extended trips, I spend over 30 nights camping in everything from rooftop tents to Airstreams every year. I look at build quality, included features and components, pricing, and availability, as well as details like trailer suspension and camper wall construction methods, in an effort to find a broad array of what I think are the most well-made and value-driven rigs on the market.

Reviews: The Best Trailers and Campers of 2023

Arkto campers g12 (from $48,000).

Arkto Campers G12

Pros: Incredible value; Generous standing room; Outdoor kitchen; No-wood construction Cons: Canvas pop top means it’s not as insulated as a hard-sided camper

Arkto Campers’ G12 has answered the call for what many overland fans have long been looking for: a North American-made, Australian-style overland travel trailer with superb build quality, sleeping space for four, and just the right amount of off-road capability. Even better, you get all that without the astronomical prices associated with many of the best Australian imports. The base price includes everything most outdoorsy types look for in an adventure trailer: a light GVWR of 4,600 pounds, a well-appointed slide-out outdoor kitchen, plenty of interior storage, a furnace, an outdoor shower, a 270-degree awning, and 37 gallons of fresh water storage. There’s no wood used in the construction, so rotting is not an issue (it’s made from fiber-reinforced plastic composite panels with insulation in between, and it all rests upon a galvanized steel chassis), and the pop-top roof means you get an interior height of 6 feet 8 inches. Close the top, and a height of 7 feet 9 inches and total length of 19 feet 10 inches means the trailer will still fit in most modern garages. It’s incredibly impressive that Arkto is able to pack that many features into a small trailer at this price point, especially when you consider the off-road cred thanks to 33-inch-tall tires and Timbren Axle-Less suspension with four inches of lift. If there’s a better buy than the G12 in the overland trailer market right now, we’ve yet to find it.

Bottom Line: Everything we want in an overland trailer with a reasonable price tag

Topo Toppers Badlander and Mesa (From $8,950 and $6,450)

Topo Toppers Badlander and Mesa

Pros: Affordable pricing; Lightweight; Full pop-top allows more room inside Cons: Installation of the Badlander is only available at their shop in California

These days, it seems like there’s a new player in the truck bed wedge-camper marketevery few weeks. We’ve tested models from many brands, like GoFast Campers and Super Pacific. But Ventura, California-based Topo Toppers has risen to the top of a very competitive field thanks to their top-notch aluminum construction, sharp looks, and incredible value. Topo offers two different models: a full pop-up camper that offers maximum interior space called the Badlander; and their latest, a more traditional wedge-style camper called the Mesa. Both retail for less than their competition while still offering impressive standard features like front and rear acrylic windows in the shell; two windows in the tent; keyed tailgate door locks; the ability to store bedding up top when the campers are closed; and to stand up while the bed is down. There are five options for shell colors, and you can add additional features like LED lighting, a MaxxAir fan, and cargo-access side doors. Best of all, at 300 and 250 pounds, respectively, they won’t unnecessarily weigh down your truck.

Bottom Line: The best value in the wedge camper market

Badlander Mesa

Bear Adventure Vehicles Black Bear 7.0 (From $17,600)

Bear Adventure Vehicles Black Bear 7.0

Pros: Top of the line shell construction; Beautiful interiors; Highly insulated Cons: More wind-resistance and higher center of gravity than a pop-up

If you’re looking for a bit more protection from the elements than a pop-up can provide, California-based Bear Adventure Vehicles has you covered. The brand is a dealer and outfitter of Total Composites’ slide-in truck campers, which are some of the highest-quality and lightest weight hard-sided campers out there. You can purchase an empty shell and build them out yourself, as I did last year (and documented for Outside), or have Bear build out your camper for you. After building out my shell’s interior and camping in it for over a year now, I can speak to the quality of construction of the Total Composites shell–it’s incredibly well insulated, lightweight, and bulletproof. I expect it to last for decades. Bear matches that quality with its own interior builds that turn an empty box into a gorgeous, fully functioning camper with proprietary high pressure laminate cabinetry and all the essentials like running water, lighting, and a fridge. Bear says that most full interior builds come out to around $17,000, but they are completely customizable, so you can get exactly what you want and skip things you don’t.

Bottom Line: A true four-season, fully custom truck camper that’s fantastic for ski bumming

Australian Off Road Sierra (From $42,500)

Australian Off Road Sierra

Pros: Built like a tank; Incredible off-road ability; Loads of water storage Cons: A bit heavy for its size (3,968 GVWR)

If you’re looking for a teardrop or other small trailer you can drag virtually anywhere, the Australian Off Road (AOR) Sierra should be on your shortlist. AOR has been making trailers since 2000 in Australia, but they’re new to the U.S., and are available exclusively through XGrid Campers in Las Vegas, Nevada. At just under 15 feet long, the Sierra is one of AOR’s smaller models, and feels like a teardrop when you’re towing it. The setup is vastly different, though, with the outdoor kitchen on the side of the trailer and access to the bed from the opposite side, or through a drop-down vestibule off the back of the trailer. That rear vestibule, along with the 270-degree awning and outdoor shower, give you sheltered standing room to change clothes as well as privacy for a portable toilet—and make this trailer feel a whole lot bigger than it is. The inside sleeps two, there’s copious storage, and the whole rig is completely dustproof—a feature we wish was more common among trailers. The real selling point of this rig, though, is the off-road capability; incredible approach, departure, and breakover angles combined with a robust, dual shock independent trailing arm suspension and 360-degree articulating hitch mean you can drag this thing anywhere your rig can go. Oh, and up to 52 gallons of fresh water storage means you can stay there for a long time, too.

Bottom Line: An absolute tank of a trailer that’ll go anywhere you’re willing to drag it

Be realistic about what you need and what you’ll actually use. Rig envy is real, and it’s easy to convince yourself you need the most off-road capable camper to beat the crowds, or a true four-season rig to chase storms in the winter. But, how often are you actually going to be camping in sub-zero temperatures? Do you really want to drag your new investment down a gnarly 4×4 trail, or do you just want to find a nice dispersed site on a forest service road? You can save yourself a lot of money and heartache by taking a good, long look at the type of camping you do most often and being realistic about what you actually need—maybe that’s a front wheel drive van, or a trailer with a tamer suspension.

Buying a camper of any kind is a big investment, so it’s best if you can try one out or at least see one in person before pulling the trigger. Visiting a dealer is good, but a lot of today’s best rigs are sold direct-to-consumer, which means that events like Overland Expo are a great way to see a camper up close. Even better, try renting the type of rig that interests you from Outdoorsy to get a real feel for it—even if they don’t have the specific model you’re looking for, you’ll get an idea of whether you’re a van, trailer, or truck camper person.

What are the 10 Best Travel Trailer Brands and Models?

Published on May 23rd, 2022 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on October 5th, 2023

One of the most frequent questions we get from new and experienced RV enthusiasts alike is: What are the best travel trailer brands to consider buying? This is a crucial consideration because your travel trailer is more than just a vehicle—it’s your home on wheels. Let’s explore some brands that consistently receive high marks for quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Discovering the Best Travel Trailer Brands in 2023: A Guide for Every RVer

Deciding on “the best brand” of anything is subjective. The answer is as unique as you are. Discovering it largely depends on your specific RV travel needs, budget, family size, and personal preferences. he answer also depends on finding the  best truck for your camper .

Over the years my picks for the best travel trailers tends to remain unchanged. Many new brands are on the market, but they have not been around long enough to properly assess their quality. Each of the best travel trailer brands in our list has developed a unique approach to comfort, efficiency, and style.

The Gold Standard: How Do You Choose the Best Travel Trailer Brands of 2023?

What distinguishes the elite from the average in the world of travel trailers? After analyzing feedback from RV enthusiasts and combing through industry reviews, we have identified three things to keep in mind as you shop for your ultimate travel trailer brand.

1. Road-Tested Reliability

When it comes to RVs, it’s not a question of if you’ll encounter issues, but when. With that in mind, the reliability of a travel trailer should be your most critical consideration. The most trusted travel trailer brands inspire confidence based on sterling reviews. That feedback isn’t just from RV industry cheerleaders, but from the real experts – everyday RV owners like you and me.

Don’t fall for the shiny objects shown in walk-through YouTube reviews. Instead, dig deeper and seek out firsthand experiences from actual owners. Start with RV communities such as the iRV2 Discussion Forums . This is one of many excellent ways to get unbiased ratings and insights from owners of the brands you are curious about. Start engaging in discussions about the real-world performance and reliability of the camper you’re interested in.

2. Value for Your Money

Price matters, but not always in the way you might think. While we all love a bargain, when it comes to travel trailers that a lower sticker price can often be a sign of mass production that leads to compromised quality. As with any purchase, affordability is important, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of quality. The best travel trailer brands offer the highest value for the price point with above-average durability, thoughtful design, and overall quality.

3. Customer-First Service

The best travel trailers in the world can’t make up for a poor customer service experience. When investing in a travel trailer, you’re not just buying an RV. You are entering into a relationship. The industry’s top-tier travel trailer brands on our list understand this and prioritize customer satisfaction. From the initial contact with the manufacturer to after-sales support from the dealer and any warranty work in the future, they make it a prioirty to keep customers happy.

Not all travel trailer brands or their affiliated dealers shine in this area. Explore Google reviews about your local RV dealers that carry the brand you are considering. An overwhelming amount of negative customer feedback may be a telltale sign to look elsewhere.

The Top 10 Best Travel Trailer Brands List

Choosing the best RV trailer brands isn’t easy. There are hundreds of trailer brands and thousands of models. I selected these brands and models based on hundreds of RV user reviews. The following list of camper brands is known for their commitment to quality and value. They are also known for providing excellent customer service and timely warranty repairs. Here are the manufacturers that make our cut.

Now let’s review these brands and their best models to consider buying for your next travel trailer purchase. Remember, take your time to research, visit dealerships, attend RV shows, and even rent different models. This will give you a feel for what suits you best. The adventure of RVing begins even before you hit the road. It starts right here with the exciting process of choosing your home on wheels from among the best travel trailer brands in 2023.

#2. grand design rv imagine.

Grand Design RV is another one of the best travel trailer brands. They have a loyal and raving fan base that considers their travel trailers some better overall brands in the industry.

Happy Grand Design Travel Trailer owners (Image: @AKA…Neil, iRV2 Forums member)

I have seen many owner reviews of Grand Design campers who rave about the quality of these units and the outstanding customer service. For me, a list of the best travel trailer brands would not be complete without Grand Design.

The company is located in Middlebury, IN. All their towables and fifth wheels come with a 3-year limited structural warranty. Imagine XLS is one of my favorites due to its excellent styling, features, and amenities. Grand Design has only been around since 2001 and today it operates as an independent business within Winnebago Industries. This line of campers is definitely on our short list of the best travel trailer brands in 2023.

Why I Recommend the Grand Design Imagine

The Imagine travel trailer line is my preferred bumper-pull from this RV manufacturer. There are several reasons I like the Imagine trailer. First off, it comes in 21 different floor plans. Even the smallest model comes with a queen-sized bed. There is no way I would want a travel trailer with anything smaller than a queen bed.

Grand Design Imagine Specifications

11 different floor plans in 3 lines, length: from 19 ft 11-inches to 36-feet 11-inches, one-piece roof membrane with 12-year warranty, arctic 4-seasons package, aluminum framed fully laminated sidewalls, uvw: 3,560 lbs to 8,394 lbs, gel-coated fiberglass exterior, double-insulated floor, roof, and front cap, heated and enclosed dump valves, factory installed rv solar power system.

The Imagine is also loaded with a ton of standard features. Here are just a few of the ones that stand out for me and for what I’m looking for:

Solid hardwood drawer fronts

Upgraded residential furniture, large double door refrigerator, large panoramic windows, residential quality countertops, 3-burner range with oven.

#3. oliver legacy elite 2.

The Oliver brand makes high-quality luxury fiberglass trailers in their Tennessee manufacturing facility. The company, which was started by twin brothers Jim and John Oliver, was formed in 2008.

Oliver manufactures fiberglass trailer with a blend of luxury and resilience that’s hard to beat. Imagine a travel trailer built like a fortress, designed to withstand whatever Mother Nature might throw at it. That’s what Oliver offers – each trailer is constructed with a double-hull fiberglass shell. This gives superior protection against all weather conditions. It’s not inexpensive, but is a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality and durability.

Couple camping by a lake with Oliver Legacy Elite 2 (Image: Oliver Travel Trailers)

The company gets that we’re all different and have our own ideas about what makes the perfect RV. That’s why they offer a wide range of customization options. Whether it’s a specific floor layout, an advanced solar power system, or leather upholstery, Oliver makes it happen. It’s like getting a tailor-made suit, but this one’s an RV made to fit your camping style and needs.

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2

Inside the Legacy Elite 2 (Image: Oliver Travel Trailers)

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2 pictured above is my favorite model and probably one of their top-rated all-fiberglass campers. I like the Elite 2 for several reasons. I like that it has a dry weight of just 4,600 pounds. It can be towed with a good truck or full-size SUV. Keep in mind that 4,600 pounds is just the dry weight. For towing, you need to consider cargo weight too.

The Legacy Elite 2 comes in two-floor plans. One with twin beds and the with a dinette to 75″ x 79″ bed conversion. This model is loaded with standard features.

Oliver Legacy Elite 2 Specifications

Full custom molded interior and exterior insulated shells, plumbing, holding tanks, and drain pipes are enclosed between shells with heat to diminish the risk of freezing, quad shocks on dual dexter leaf spring axles, “nev-r-adjust” electric brakes for exceptional control and braking, molded vanity, norcold 3-way refrigerator 4.5 cubic ft. (12v, 11ov, lp), 15′ dometic awning, 22″ flat screen lcd tv, custom mounted speakers (4).

Oliver Travel Trailers are worth the money if you are shopping for a new RV. Their unique blend of luxury, superior construction, thoughtful design, customizability, and top-tier customer service, makes these fiberglass trailers a trustworthy companion on your road adventures.

#4. winnebago industries – micro minnie.

Another of our selected best travel trailers is Winnebago. With a history spanning over 50 years, Winnebago is a well-known and respected brand in the RV industry. Headquartered in Forest River, Iowa, the company builds a huge selection of RVs, including high-quality motorhomes, campers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers.

Winnebago Micro Minnie (Image: Winnebago)

Winnebago makes five popular travel trailer models as of 2023. One of the best travel trailer brands for new RVers and experienced ones alike is the Micro Minnie (which replaced the older Minnie Drop model that made our former list of the best travel trailers.

What I Like About the Micro Minnie

When it comes to striking a balance between compactness and living comfort, the Micro Minnie travel trailers hit the nail right on the head. These little marvels of RV engineering manage to pack a ton of amenities into a small, easy-to-tow package, proving that you don’t have to go big to enjoy the perks of home on the road.

Despite their size, Micro Minnies don’t skimp on the essentials. Step inside to enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen that comes with a double-door refrigerator, a three-burner stove, and even a microwave. So, whether you’re warming up last night’s leftovers or cooking a full-course meal, you’ve got everything you need right there.

Winnebago Micro Minnie Specifications

#5. happier camper hc1.

If you’re looking for an ultralight travel trailer that brings a smile to your face and makes RVing a breeze, Happier Camper travel trailers are it. These compact and retro lightweight travel trailers are winning the hearts of people who want a small trailer that can be towed by a typical passenger car.

Happier Camper HC1 travel trailer (Image: Happier Camper)

Happier Camper trailers are incredibly versatile. Their “Adaptiv” furniture anf cabinetry are made as modular cubes. This lets you customize the layout to suit your specific needs for any camping trip. The modular system includes lightweight cubes that can be rearranged to create a comfortable sleeping area, a cozy dining space, or even a mobile office for those who can’t leave work behind.

Each trailer’s retro-inspired design pays homage to the iconic campers of the past while incorporating modern amenities. With their vibrant colors, rounded shapes, and nostalgic appeal, Happier Camper trailers turn heads wherever they go. Plus, their lightweight construction makes them a breeze to tow, even with smaller vehicles.

Why The Happier Camper HC1?

Happier Camper specs (Image: Happier Camper)

Happier Camper trailers are also built to last. Crafted with high-quality materials and attention to detail, these trailers offer durability and reliability on the road. From the sturdy fiberglass shell to the energy-efficient appliances, every aspect of a Happier Camper trailer is thoughtfully designed for your comfort and convenience.

A notable Happier Camper HC1 feature is the expansive rear hatch that lets you easily load up a couple of bikes; even a kayak if water sports are your favorite outdoor activity. This is an awesome feature for such a small camper.

Happier Camper HC1 Specifications

100% double-hull insulation fiberglass, length: 10′ (shell), 13.5′ with hitch, width: 6′ 11″, exterior height: 7′ 4″, inside height: 6′ 1″, dry weight: 1,100 lbs., gvwr: 3,500 lbs., adaptive modules are all 20″ x 20″ and of varying height, rear hatch door:  54.5” w x 53.5” h.

One thing to keep in mind with the Happier Camper is that it does not have a typical toilet setup. The Happier Camper has a “ Dry Flush” toilet for RVs . That is the only drawback I see to this camper trailer. Remember, it is small, so don’t expect much room, but that is how it’s been designed. It’s modern, and makes exceptional use of the small interior.

#6. starcraft rv autumn ridge.

Another of our picks with a long history in the RV industry, Starcraft, started making metal farm equipment in 1903. In 1968 they began manufacturing campers. Today, what sets Starcraft apart from other small, affordable trailers is its smart construction. Made with TuffShell, Starcraft’s unique fiberglass wall construction, all Starcraft trailers give superior durability while remaining lightweight. This combination not only extends the lifespan of the RV but also makes towing a breeze, whether you tow with a full-size pickup or a mid-size SUV.

Starcraft Autumn Ridge travel trailer

Step inside an Autumn Ridge, and he homey atmosphere helps you feel right at home wherever you park. Their kitchens are a standout, complete with a three-burner stove, a microwave, and a double-door refrigerator – all you need to whip up delicious meals on the road or at the campsite . After dinner, you can relax in the comfortable seating area, perhaps catch a show on the LED TV.

What Makes The Autumn Ridge a Best Travel Trailer?

Prior to the Autumn Ridge, the 2019 Starcraft Mossy Oak travel trailer was my preferred choice. This was a spacious camper available in 11-floor plans, including several travel trailer models with bunk beds . The Mossy Oak came in lengths from 23’4″ to 36’5″, making it the best predecessor of the Starcraft Autumn Ridge. This new model has many choices for RV buyers, with features that will make you want to own one too.

#8. shasta rv 18fq.

A division of Forest River, Shasta travel trailers have been a reliable companion for road travelers since 1941. If you’ve been camping a long time, the toaster-like look of the original Shaster brings back memories. What I love about Shasta trailers is they’re a great buy for the money.

Shasta trailers offer a wide range of towing capacities. Because these campers are crafted with a sturdy, lightweight aluminum exterior, they are durable but don’t add extra weight. Whether you already own a large truck for towing, or a family SUV, these campers are a great choice for anyone just starting their RV journey. Experienced RVers looking for an upgrade also find them a great fit.

Why You Should Consider the Shasta 18FQ

Over the years, Shasta has trimmed their travel trailer line to just the Shasta model, which is available as a typical pull-behind and a travel trailer tow hauler. The pull-behind is available in a whopping 14 different floor plans. Of all those plans, my favorite is the 18FQ.

The 18FQ is very well laid out. Stepping inside, you can’t help but appreciate the attention to detail. Kitchens come equipped with a three-burner cooktop, a generous refrigerator, and a microwave oven, giving you all the conveniences of a home kitchen on the road. The 18FQ includes a 60″ x 74″ bed mattress with overhead storage space above and a clothes wardrobe on either side. It has a dry bath with a separate toilet and shower, medicine cabinet and a linen closet.

With over 50 years of industry experience, Jayco has been one of the better brands in the RV industry. They have a loyal following and have always been very responsive to their customers. Jayco Jay Flight SLX 2023 (Image: Jayco)

he Jay Flight SLX series is one of Jayco’s top-selling lines. These campers tick all the boxes for both beginner and experienced RVers, by making travel trailers that are easy to tow, durable, and feature-packed.

Why I Like The Jay Flight SLX

Of all the travel trailer models Jayco manufactures, I prefer the Jay Flight SLX. First off, it’s not a huge camper and very light for its size. This makes the SLX very manageable when it comes to towing. In 2023 the Jay Flight SLX is available in 5 floorplans. The floorplan choices offer something for every RVer, including bunkhouse and queen bed walk around models. Two models have slideouts.

Jayco Jay Flight SLX interior (Image: Jayco)

However, Starcraft retains its own name and image, while also having access to Thor’s quality components!

All Starcraft travel trailers come with a 3-year warranty, as well as including a Magnum Roof System and their trademarked Tuffshell (a vacuum-bonded lamination used for all of the walls within their RVs).

The rear kitchen embraces practicality with a large pantry and plenty of cabinets and drawers. Adjacent to the kitchen is the free-standing dinette that really levels up the space with a homey feel. HIDEOUT 24RBS

WHAT’S EXCITING: Hideout’s new Product Manager, Andrew Elliott, is turning heads with a new rear bath model that is sure to impress. His attention to detail will not go unnoticed in the all-new Hideout 24RBS.

From the placement of outlets and lights to measuring pantries to perfectly fit cereal boxes, Product Manager Andrew Elliott is paying careful attention to every detail in this Hideout floorplan. The 24RBS stands apart from its peers by giving campers an incredible amount of storage space not typically seen in travel trailers under 28 feet.  The rear bath has more countertop space, more drawers, more overhead cabinet storage, and more linen storage than any other floorplan like it.  In addition, this model comes with an outside kitchen, including a 3.2 cu ft refrigerator and sidewall mounted griddle, not typically found on a non-bunk model.  It also has an entry closet for coats or outerwear, shoe shelves plus an extra-large pantry (two deep shelves plus two pots and pans drawers) that doesn’t eat into the floorspace in front of the slideout.  This design maximizes storage while still feeling wide open.

Some of the feature highlights include a central vacuum system (unheard of at this price point), a porcelain toilet, and the tallest interior height (81”) in its segment.  Another exciting new feature for all 2023 Hideout floorplans is the addition of the Girard On-Demand Water Heater which allows owners to have an unlimited supply of hot water and truly is a game changer. Let's not forget about Hideout's factory-installed SolarFlex™ solar power system, SolarFlex 200 which pairs perfectly with a 100 amp hour Dragonfly Lithium Battery, now standard on all 2023 models. You won't want to miss this floorplan so be sure to check it out!

HIDEOUT 25BHS

WHAT’S EXCITING: Hideout’s new Product Manager, Andrew Elliott, is causing a stir with a new bunk model that is sure to disrupt the market. A unique solution to an old problem can be found in the all-new Hideout 25BHS.

For many models with double bunks on the door side of the trailer, there has never been a good solution for getting onto the top bunk.  The 25BHS has solved this dilemma with a set of stairs that allow even the smallest of campers to safely and easily enter and exit the top bunk. Not only does this Hideout model solve that problem, but it also gives the bunk beds a dedicated wardrobe and set of drawers built into and on top of the stairs.  This model has some significant advantages versus the industry standard double bunk model with superslide:

  • A significantly better viewing angle to the TV.
  • Better layout for conversation with the dinette directly across from the sofa rather than trying to talk to someone sitting further down the slide from you.
  • A large window overlooking the campsite.
  • A private master bedroom with sizable space to walk around the bed.

From the placement of outlets and lights to measuring pantries to perfectly fit cereal boxes, Product Manager Andrew Elliott is paying careful attention to every detail in this Hideout floorplan so be sure to check it out!

PASSPORT 2700RL

WHAT’S EXCITING: A dual entry coach with the privacy and entertainment space that owners deserve.

Who doesn’t love a private main bedroom that is away from the hustle and bustle? The Passport 2700RL has the perfect combination of privacy and entertaining space. This couples coach is Passport’s only dual entrance floorplan which offers owners their own bedroom oasis in the front of the coach. This just over 32 ft floorplan offers a passthrough bathroom that separates the bedroom from the main living space. The main living space embraces entertaining friends and family with plenty of seating options between the large tri-fold sofa, theater seats, and dinette. The built-in entertainment center gives owners an electric fireplace and built-in TV, perfect for a cozy movie night or watching the big game. The kitchen also offers owners plenty of storage options and a good amount of counter space. Looking around the entire coach, you’ll notice that storage is not limited to the kitchen. Coining the name “Swiss Army Knife of RVs”, Passport puts an emphasis on maximizing every square inch of space with storage.

New for 2023, all Passport floor plans include a Girard Tankless Water Heater for an unlimited supply of hot water. Let’s not forget about the Keystone exclusive SolarFlex™ system. SPRINGDALE 281RK

WHAT’S EXCITING:  AN all-new travel trailer layout with a true, wraparound rear kitchen and secluded bedroom.

There are three things that make the all-new Springdale 281RK exciting for owners and truly one of a kind. The rear kitchen features a full wraparound countertop with windows on all sides, letting in loads of natural light and beautiful campground views. Rather than using one slide in the living space, product manager, BJ Kloska added opposing slides, which opens up the space significantly compared to similar models. The other big advantage of this design is the shift to a walkthrough bath which not only increases its size, it adds additional privacy for the bedroom.

As always, this Springdale offers clever touches including storage nets near every USB outlet, a built-in magnetic knife and utensil holder, double shelves over the queen bed for additional storage, a laundry chute from the bedroom to the passthrough storage, and large windows with panoramic views. Factory-installed SolarFlex™ 200 solar power system with Dragonfly Lithium-ion batteries as standard equipment.

The Springdale 286BHU is making its debut at the Florida RV Supershow!

This bunkhouse is a great option for families who want a traditional bunkhouse but need space to bring larger items. This space gives owners an extra 22 square feet of storage (not including the passthrough storage) when the bottom bunk is flipped up to be exact! This large rear storage opens with a 44x48 rear door giving owners the ability to store large items like a generator, full-sized bikes, totes, or even a kayak. This storage space is even equipped with two tie-downs to safely haul and strap down your items. Also on the outside, is the outdoor refrigerator drawer that is perfect for beverages on the go.

This floorplan features an electric fireplace standard and a 40” TV. Our Favorite Small Campers (Under 6,000 Pounds GVWR)

Best Lightweight Travel Trailers for 2023

Ready to buy a small camper? Our list of the best lightweight travel trailers for 2023 proves you don’t need a full-size pickup to start RVing.

These 2023 small trailers are built for the towing limits of today’s vehicles . All have a unique style and personality, just like the RVers camping with them for years to come.

Keep reading to see our full list of the best 2023 lightweight travel trailers for small cars and trucks. There’s something for everyone with these family-friendly campers, teardrops, and off-road 4×4 trailers.

Can your car or truck pull small travel trailers?

RVers who tow small travel trailers with crossover cars, SUVs, and lighter pickups are passionate about RV camping and all the fun the outdoors offers. Informed and smart, they choose campers that weigh less than the maximum towing capacity of their tow vehicle.

  • Most passenger cars and light trucks have a towing capacity less than 3,500 pounds gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). This is the weight of the trailer when fully loaded.
  • Larger midsize SUVs and midsize pickups have a maximum towing capacity around 6,000 pounds GVWR.

Consider the GVWR (not the UVW)

Many RV manufacturers tout the UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) of their trailers. But adding cargo like fresh water, propane tank(s), food, clothing, bicycles, and other camping equipment to the trailer can add hundreds of pounds to that UVW number.

GVWR is the weight to know when buying a trailer for a lightweight truck or passenger car tow vehicle.

Knowing the GVWR of small campers is the key to safe towing on road or while off-the-grid camping. Now, let’s dive into our list of the best lightweight travel trailers for 2023.

The 10 Best Lightweight Travel Trailers (Under 6,000 Pounds GVWR)

Travel + Leisure’s 2024 It List.

Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

For the first time, we’re spotlighting new cruise ships on Travel + Leisure ’s It List, as these exceptional vessels become more and more like floating resorts — celebrity chefs, crystal chandeliers, and Rolex boutiques included.

Explora Journeys’ Explora I

Paul Brady/Travel + Leisure

It’s not every day a new cruise line arrives. The debut of the remarkable Explora I was a moment years in the making for Explora Journeys , the upstart luxury operator that aims to bring a European sensibility to the world of vacations at sea. So far, the project is a smashing success, thanks to the ship’s low-key vibe, standout food and beverage, and intriguing itineraries that visit in-demand ports in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. My own August 2023 trip on Explora I , from Copenhagen to Hamburg, Germany, included fulfilling visits to places such as Oslo and the town of Stavanger, Norway, a gateway to adventurous hiking with a postcard-perfect Old Town. The ship itself was also a destination, with its abundance of outdoor space — including an alfresco fitness center — and pools at seemingly every turn. The 461 suites, all of them with balconies, are filled with luxurious touches such as Frette linens and robes, heated marble floors, and Dyson hair dryers. But Explora I truly shines when it comes to food: During the week I was aboard, it was impossible to find a bad meal — and I was often astonished at the quality of, in particular, the pasta served in the Emporium Marketplace and the sushi on offer at Sakura, two of the nine restaurants aboard. The most ambitious of them all is Anthology, a rotating-chef concept that has seen a residency from seafood whiz Mario Ulaissi, known for his Michelin three-starred restaurant on Italy's Adriatic coast, and that recently welcomed Emma Bengtsson, from Aquavit , in New York City. Much has been made of Explora I ’s Rolex boutique — the first on any cruise ship — but for my money, the other shops on board were more interesting: The company has tapped family-owned businesses around the world to create capsule collections of resort wear, handbags, fragrances, sunglasses, and beautiful gifts that can’t be found elsewhere. From $2,050 per person for a six-day sailing. Accessible ship. — Paul Brady

Oceania Cruises’ Vista

Nick Tortajada/Courtesy of Oceania Cruises

The new Oceania Vista is in a class of its own; no really, it’s the first in Oceania Cruises ’ new Allura class. Of its 11 bars and restaurants, three are entirely new to the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings–owned brand — including a high-end cocktail spot called Founders’ Bar, serving 26 intricate drinks that use house-made syrups and top-shelf booze like Whistle Pig and parsley-infused Grey Goose. As Oceania levels up, the cruise line has produced a ship that feels more like a floating resort than the vessels that came before. There’s pickleball; a health-conscious restaurant, Aquamar, serving made-to-order salads and pressed juices; and a coffee shop that looks like one in walking distance of my home in L.A. (marble counters, gold accents, leather bar stools) and pulls an espresso shot of similar quality. Vista has more suites than others in the Oceania fleet, too: There are 14 Oceania Suites (up to 1,200 square feet); eight Vista Suites (up to 1,850 square feet); and three Owner’s Suites with Ralph Lauren Home decor and two massive terraces (2,400 square feet). But the most hotel-like touch? A celebrity chef–driven restaurant, Toscana, where Giada De Laurentiis — the ship’s godmother — supplied two recipes for the menu. As someone who watched a lot of Everyday Italian in the early aughts, I was particularly excited to try her signature, Capri-inspired lemon spaghetti, and lemon-cream sauce with grilled shrimp and capers didn’t disappoint. From $2,499 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — Maya Kachroo-Levine

Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur

Courtesy of Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ sixth ship, the Seven Seas Grandeur , sailed its inaugural season in December, joining sibling ships Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor as the newest member of the luxury fleet. The cruise line is a favorite among T+L readers for its gorgeous ships and all-inclusive pricing that covers unlimited shore excursions, dining at specialty restaurants, and even round-trip airfare. Grandeur lives up to its name thanks to stunning, art-filled spaces designed by cruise ship interior experts Studio Dado: signature restaurant Compass Rose is enchanting with interiors inspired by a fairy-tale forest; the Observation Lounge sparkles with an undulating chandelier and swanky bar; and the $11,000-per-night Regent Suite has a private en suite spa and custom Treesse mini pool. As I boarded Grandeur for the ship’s inaugural sailing, I was mesmerized by the grand staircase and glittering chandelier. And with a maximum capacity of 744 guests, I found it easy to take time to myself in the myriad of quiet spots tucked throughout the ship, whether in the Serene Spa and Wellness area, in the Library, or on the Sports Deck overlooking the ocean. Seven restaurants include specialty steakhouse Prime 7, pan-Asian restaurant Pacific Rim, and breakfast and lunch buffet La Veranda, which refines the cruise buffet experience with daily specials like paella and sushi. Several bars and lounges, a pool and hot tubs, a casino, Broadway-style productions, and cooking classes at the Culinary Arts Kitchen make the ship a destination in itself, though guests will want to take advantage of those included excursions on Caribbean, Central American, North American, and European itineraries, ranging from seven to 16 nights, during the ship’s 2024 season. From $4,669 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — Elizabeth Rhodes

Silversea’s Silver Nova

Courtesy of Silversea Cruises

Carrying 728 passengers, Silver Nova is big for the luxury sector, but boasts a hugely important metric: a capacious passenger space ratio — that is, the number of guests relative to the size of the ship. Simply put, this ship offers more elbow room per passenger than almost any other cruise vessel. Silver Nova is wrapped in glass, with an asymmetrical layout; the funnel is positioned off-center, so is the pool, offering an expansive, uncluttered pool deck. Many features of the brand-new ship recall previous Silversea successes, my favorite of which is the S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) program, expanded for Silver Nova . S.A.L.T. perks include a gorgeous, sea-facing lab for hands-on culinary lessons (at no additional cost), plus a new concept, the Chef’s Table, where an 11-course menu is prepared for just 24 diners. All facets of the S.A.L.T. ecosystem, including ingredients, a bar, lectures, and shore excursions, are keyed to the region Nova is sailing. While food is a drawing card for Silver Nova , accommodations also received a revamp. Tied to the theme of bringing the outside in, there are brilliant new suites found in the aft starboard corner of the ship, with wraparound balconies revealing a 270-degree view.  This is where you can tuck me in when I win the lottery and head off on a world cruise. But until then, Silver Nova will summer in Alaska and spend northern hemisphere winters in Australia and New Zealand, places where top-deck views should prove ceaselessly rewarding. From $3,250 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — David Swanson

Read on to discover the most unique glamping resorts in California, Florida, Tennessee and other destinations across the U.S.

The Resort at Paws Up: Greenough, Montana

There's glamping, and then there's glamping at The Resort at Paws Up . One of the pioneers of modern-day glamping, The Resort at Paws Up offers six exclusive glamping camps (with prices to match), each one offering a different experience. Solo travelers and couples will love the two-story Tree Haus at the resort's adults-only retreat, called the green o. North Bank Camp – with three-bedroom, two-bathroom tents – is ideal for large families. You can book an individual tent or, if traveling with extended family and/or friends, even an entire camp. Guests can even bring along a furry friend, as this resort is dog-friendly.

Glamping guests enjoy a dedicated camping butler and, because this is an all-inclusive resort , three gourmet meals with alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages daily. Select activities such as mountain biking and snow tubing are covered in nightly rates. For additional fees you can also take advantage of the many unique guided activities and excursions you don't find at most resorts, from snowmobiling to hot air balloon rides. On-site transportation and shuttle service to and from Missoula Montana Airport, about 35 miles away, are also included in your stay.

While the lodging and amenities make Paws Up one of the best glamping resorts in the U.S., it's the staff members who have earned this resort rave reviews from previous guests. The Resort at Paws Up offers glamping mid-May through mid-October, while the green o is available for stays year-round.

Opened in 2022, Backland is a remote resort with four glamping options: Backland Suite, Grand Suite, Sky Suite and Grand Sky Suite. These luxury tents accommodate up to either four or six guests, plus no more than two pets. Each features king-sized beds, a full en suite bathroom with a shower, luxury linens, electricity, automatic climate control, an outdoor patio, a coffee maker, a minifridge, housekeeping services and some toiletries.

Backland purposefully doesn't offer Wi-Fi in the tents – only at reception – as guests are encouraged to unplug during their stay. Glampers at this resort say they appreciate the cozy accommodations and peaceful atmosphere.

Backland is located less than 15 miles from downtown Williams, Arizona, close to some of the best places to visit in Arizona , including Flagstaff (about 40 miles away), Grand Canyon National Park (less than 60 miles) and Sedona , which is a roughly 60-mile drive from the resort.

Other amenities include pools and hot tubs, a fitness center, and a canteen with grab-and-go bites and beverages. Previous guests rave about the setting and conveniences of glamping at this resort.

Alila Ventana Big Sur: Big Sur, California

Glamping

There are few destinations in California that offer luxury in a place where you would otherwise have to rough it. In Big Sur , a region that is only accessible via one road and doesn't always offer electricity, travelers will find a limited selection of five-star accommodations – among them Alila Ventana Big Sur .

The resort offers safari-style tents in a 20-acre redwood canyon, all equipped with plush beds, electric lamps, instant hot and cold potable water with sinks, and power outlets with USB ports. Glampers can also make use of amenities for enjoying the outdoors, such as Adirondack chairs, wood-burning fire pits and picnic tables. Restrooms and showers are available at a shared, well-maintained bathhouse.

Glamping guests can purchase the Spa Alila Day Pass, which includes one 50-minute massage or facial, one poolside entree and one nonalcoholic beverage, plus full access to the meadow pool, infinity hot tub and sauna. You also have the option to enjoy fine dining at The Sur House on-site. Some parts of the Alila Ventana Big Sur grounds are reserved for resort guests only, so glampers will not have access to certain facilities.

Treebones Resort: Big Sur, California

If you want to glamp in Big Sur, you might also consider Treebones Resort, which offers yurts with king beds and modern furnishings, as well as accommodations you're not likely to find elsewhere. The Autonomous Camp Collection's twin units, which can best be described as a full apartment fit into a tent, take glamping to the next level; this solar-powered, upscale option is complete with a bedroom, en suite bathroom, lounge area and outdoor deck. For a more rustic but no less unique stay, the Human Nest campsite is exactly what it sounds like – meaning you'll need to bring your own bedding and tent for protection from the elements when you sleep on the futon pad inside this wood art.

Something else Treebones Resort has that you don't find at most glamping resorts? Sushi. The Wild Coast Sushi Bar features an omakase dining experience in which patrons sit face to face with the chef, who uses their reactions to craft the 14-course tasting menu. Previous guests say it's an absolute must when staying here. You can also dine at The Lodge Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and a three-course dinner.

Other on-site amenities include a massage studio and yoga. The rugged coastline views at Treebones Resort rival many in the area, and glampers may also choose to explore the beauty of Big Sur through guided excursions.

Aside from Under Canvas' Great Smoky Mountains location, there are several individually owned resorts and rentals with glamping in Tennessee . Among the best options is Little Arrow Outdoor Resort, which in addition to its modernized cabins and tiny homes offers glamping tents.

These glamping accommodations come in three forms: the Luxury Glamping Lodge, Luxury Glamping Tents and Primitive Glamping Tents. Capitol Reef Resort: Torrey, Utah

Glamping

Capitol Reef Resort is among several places in the U.S. where glamping takes the form of a Conestoga wagon. The resort's Conestoga wagons can sleep up to six guests thanks to two twin bunk beds accompanying the king bed. They feature lighting, Wi-Fi, air conditioning and beautiful rustic furnishings. Additionally, guests have access to detached private bathrooms located a short distance away.

The resort also gives lodgers the option to stay in conical glamping tents, which sleep two adults and come with much of the same amenities as the wagons – plus flat-screen TVs. Both glamping options are available seasonally, typically from late May through September.

Capitol Reef Resort also offers on-site dining and an outdoor pool and hot tub with views of Utah's red rock cliffs. Previous guests say it's a convenient place to stay if you plan to explore Capitol Reef National Park, one of the lesser-known treasures in Utah .

Sinya on Lone Man Creek: Wimberley, Texas

Glamping

Experience the beauty – and the award-winning wineries – of Texas Hill Country at Sinya on Lone Man Creek, a property inspired by a trip to Tanzania and named after a baby elephant in Kenya. This glamping retreat is situated atop a ridge, making you feel as if you're in a treehouse overlooking the beautiful surrounding greenery and Lone Man Creek. The creek's name aptly sets the scene for this exclusive experience, since the property consists of only one tent – but it can accommodate two guests, so there's no need to be truly "lone" if you don't wish to be.

This singular tent is decked out in beautiful country-style furnishings and outfitted with a king-sized bed (not to mention goose-down pillows), a Nespresso coffee maker, a sofa, a kitchenette and a bathroom, which features a claw-foot tub, bathrobes and Turkish towels. Venture outside and you'll find the resort has five furnished outdoor spaces for lounging, including a deck with a hot tub and shower. Recent guests, many of whom visited with a romantic partner, appreciate the seclusion of this glamping resort.

The Ranch at Rock Creek: Philipsburg, Montana

Glamping

Courtesy of The Ranch at Rock Creek

This five-star dude ranch in western Montana, frequently lauded for providing one-of-a-kind travel experiences, also specializes in glamping. Like the rest of its property and offerings, The Ranch at Rock Creek takes its glamping to the next level.

Glamping accommodations start at nearly 800 square feet and are part-tent, part-cabin. With 10 such dwellings in four different styles – some of which are open year-round – options for amenities vary. Inside these "canvas cabins," you'll typically find spacious bedrooms, additional living areas, gas stoves, attached bathrooms, and outdoor spaces such as porches or decks. Guests can also sleep in a Conestoga wagon with a king bed and twin bunks.

What's more, glamping accommodations qualify for the resort's all-inclusive rate, which covers farm-to-table meals, drinks, transportation on the ranch and airport transfers, as well as resort activities like horseback riding and archery. Peak season at this property spans late May to early September, but the property is open year-round. The Ranch at Rock Creek exceeds expectations, according to previous guests.

If you've ever dreamed of sleeping beneath the northern lights in Alaska , it's time to plan a stay at Borealis Basecamp. Located less than 30 miles north of Fairbanks , Borealis Basecamp unfurls across 100 acres and offers igloos and cubes in lieu of tents, further elevating the one-of-a-kind experience.

These igloos feature cozy beds, Wi-Fi access, private bathrooms with showers and hairdryers, free toiletries, and skylights so guests can fall asleep admiring the aurora borealis when visible. The cube accommodations feature most of the same amenities, but instead of skylights, guests enjoy floor-to-ceiling windows and "treehouse" beds with viewing windows just for kids, plus an en suite bathroom. Not surprisingly, recent guests say staying at Borealis Basecamp was one of the most unique experiences they've ever had.

Little Raccoon Key: Jekyll Island, Georgia

Glamping

Courtesy of Little Raccoon Key

Little Raccoon Key – a small, uninhabited island accessible by a short boat ride from Georgia 's Jekyll Island – stands out from most other glamping destinations in the U.S. for one reason: There's just one campsite available. Not only will you have the entire reef island to yourself, but you'll be pampered by staff from start to finish. In addition to your private-island accommodations and the short boat tour there that often passes dolphins, you can request chef-prepared meals, pre-arrival grocery delivery and a lesson on oyster reefs around the island at no extra cost.

Your campsite features most necessities, such as a luxury canvas tent, a memory foam mattress, a gas grill, a stove, a kettle, other cooking supplies, and an outdoor shower and toilet. You can also take advantage of the Adirondack chairs, board games and books. While Little Raccoon Key provides a cooler for ice, it's recommended to bring your own so you can store several days' worth of food, since there's no refrigerator. You also won't find running water or air conditioning at this solar-powered island camp, but you'll be provided with a battery-powered fan. Note that Little Raccoon Key requires a two-night minimum stay.

Experience the natural beauty of upstate New York with a stay at Firelight Camps. This glamping site enjoys a scenic location in a wooded area that's not only minutes away from local state parks including Buttermilk Falls but also less than 4 miles south of Ithaca's popular Collegetown neighborhood, making this particular destination easier to reach than most.

Tents also feature hardwood floors, a private tented balcony complete with rocking chairs, lanterns with USB ports, and a writers desk and chair. Upgraded tents come with electricity, though it's important to note that none have private bathrooms; instead, there's a shared bathhouse with eco-friendly products.

Guests can also expect to enjoy artisanal spirits at the on-site bar as well as delicious (and complimentary) breakfast each morning, thanks to co-founder Emma Frisch, who was a top finalist on season 10 of "Food Network Star" and has her own cookbook. Previous guests praise the resort staff's hospitality.

Huttopia: Multiple Locations

What started as a small campsite in the French Alps in 1999 has since expanded to more than 60 locations across three continents, including five U.S. sites in California, upstate New York, southern Maine and New Hampshire's White Mountains. Huttopia's goal is to provide travelers with comforts that go above traditional camping but aren't so comfortable that you'll stay in your tent rather than explore the beautiful surroundings of its properties.

All tents and cabins offer plush beds and electricity, while some have private bathrooms, kitchenettes or kitchens, and decks. Shared bathhouses are available to guests who don't have private toilets and showers. The company's newest U.S. location, Huttopia Wine Country, opened in 2023 in partnership with Northern California's Six Sigma Ranch and Winery. Overlooking the region's rolling vineyard hills, it features a swimming pool as well as French camping cuisine – from espresso to crepes to brick-oven pizza – at its on-site Café-Bistro.

AutoCamp: Multiple Locations

If your idea of glamping is spending the night in an RV – but you don't have the budget or patience to buy one – it's time to explore AutoCamp. This glamping resort company specializes in Airstream accommodations, with six locations (and counting) ranging from national parks to beaches. Airstream amenities vary slightly by location, but you can expect plush beds (including dog beds upon request), spa-inspired bathrooms, heating and air conditioning, basic cookware, and fire pits with grills.

Families love the BaseCamp Mini Suites – an Airstream with an adjacent tent for kids – available seasonally at select resorts; another unique lodging option at some sites is the BaseCamp Suite, which is part-Airstream, part-tent. All locations offer traditional standalone glamping tents as well as accessible accommodation options.

Like the accommodations, some of the on-site programming varies by resort. For instance, AutoCamp Yosemite and AutoCamp Zion (the newest property) have pools, while the Cape Cod location has a playground. But all of AutoCamp's outposts are dog-friendly and offer complimentary cruiser bikes (first come, first served), Wi-Fi and coffee; they also promise on-site stores for provisions, including wine and beer, and an experience you won't soon forget.

Trailer styles and designs vary, but all offer comfortable beds, bathrooms – or at the very least toilets – air conditioning and heating, and kitchenettes or outdoor grills. Separate shower facilities are also available. Pro tip: Book the 1956 Spartan Royal Mansion trailer in the warmer months to stargaze from an open-air soaker tub.

The on-site amenities at The Vintages Trailer Resort are almost as good as the trailers themselves – think: a seasonal swimming pool, fire pits, a general store and complimentary cruiser bikes for enjoying Dayton, the gateway to several local vineyards. Even better is the staff, whom previous guests praise in their glowing reviews of the resort.
