He left a promising career doing interesting things in Alaska to become a writer and subsequently a commentator on NPR's All Things Considered beginning in 1984. Bodett is the author of seven books and a boatload of audio programs. He writes whenever he feels like he has something to say, which is almost never, for vulnerable media resources such as CarTalk.com. Those profound childhood issues have propelled him to various media projects including This American Life , CBS Sunday Morning , Live Wire Radio! and his daily podcast Too Beautiful to Live . He's also at work on his first book, Failure Is an Option . He'd like to clarify that the audience isn't booing when he comes onstage, they're chanting "Luuuuuuuuuke" — at least that's what he's hoping is going on.

Together, this liberal elite Hollywood couple continues to gleefully tear apart traditional family values by living in a small house with their two kids, a dog and a cat.

Exclusive Interview: Comedian Brian Babylon Discusses His Debut Album And How He Broke Into The World Of Comedy
Babylon's latest project is his debut comedy album, titled 'Babylon Ball Z' and features hilarious, relatable stories that will have you LOLing.
Wait, wait, don't tell us... is what we said to ourselves after booking an interview with comedian, actor, and producer Brian Babylon who is known for Why? With Hannibal Buress, Inside Amy Schumer and Stupify as well as being a recurring panelist on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me . Babylon's latest project is his debut comedy album, cleverly titled Babylon Ball Z and features hilarious, relatable stories that will have you chuckling all the way to work on your morning commute.
Please enjoy this exclusive interview from TheThings!
TheThings (TT): Babylon Ball Z is your debut comedy album but you are hardly a newbie to the comedy scene. Why have you not put out a comedy album before?
Brian Babylon (BB): No, I have never put out a comedy album before. It is my first and I am very excited.
TT: Your album was filmed live in San Francisco. Why did you choose the San Francisco location for your live audience? Were there any interesting or funny stories that happened while recording the album?
BB: I did not choose SF, SF chose me more about logistics. I also wanted to do it somewhere out of my comfort zone, not LA, Chicago or NYC. One thing that stands out is a joke that always does well... I made a very small mistake and it did not work. I'll let you see if you can figure out which one it was. I left it in because of something the Sklar brothers told me if you make a mistake leave it in. Sometimes people try to make comedy albums too perfect.
TT: Being in front of an audience is nothing new to you but knowing that you were recording an album, was the performance different in any way… more nerve-wracking or exciting, etc...?
BB: Definitely more exciting, not nerve-wracking at all. I was more excited to get it out!
RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: COMEDY TEAM JAY AND EYTAN GIVE ADVICE TO ASPIRING COMEDIANS
TT: In your career, you wear many different hats from hosting/producing a radio show, to TV appearances (such as Inside Amy Schumer ) to producing Why? With Hannibal Buress to performing stand-up. Have you found that one is a more natural fit for you over the others or do you have an equal appreciation for all of them?
BB: Equal appreciation for all of them for sure. I was a media producer prior to doing stand up but I love getting on stage and having fun and connecting to the audience. The basic things that make stand up fun. Just off red state tour with Hannibal had the best time ever with people who are not from big cities they appreciated my jokes just as much as someone from NYC or Chicago.
TT: Who are your favorite comedians? Are there any comedians who have influenced your career?
BB: M y favorite comedians... of course there are the classics, the usual suspects Dave Chappelle and Eddie Murphy, but I always felt that my fellow Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me , panelist, Alonzo Bodden pushed me creatively because I felt he was my style comedian. In an age when black comics where forced into "urban comedy."
TT: Your comedy career began in Chicago but now you are based in L.A. How does the comedy scene differ in these cities and how is it similar?
BB: I always feel Chicago is the best place to start comedy because its a great city with real audiences and you get a taste of all types of people versus East Coast or West Coast.
TT: What is one sage piece of advice or some words of wisdom that you wish you knew when you were starting your career?
BB: I wish I hadn't stayed at my morning radio job a WBEZ public radio in Chicago as long as I did. I should have started comedy for real and not given my talent to that company for so long.
TT: Can you tell us about your favorite joke from Babylon Ball Z ?
BB: My favorite joke is 22 Retarded. This joke is a good way to close the album as it pretty much sums up my life.
TT: Do you have any other upcoming projects you can tell us about? Is another comedy album in the works?
RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: COMEDY TEAM JAY AND EYTAN EXPLAIN HOW TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL COMEDY ALBUM
BB: My next comedy album will come much faster than this one. My next project coming up is finishing the development of the Give Me Truth game show. It's America's favorite documentary game show.
TT: Finally, can you share your favorite book with our readers?
BB: The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America by Erik Larson. It's about Chicago.
Readers, if you're looking to treat yourself to some good laughs, be sure to check out Brian's debut comedy album, Babylon Ball Z . You can also keep up with the latest news of this comedian's career by following his Twitter account @brianbabylon.

Day 1 Panoramic city tour
Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.
After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.
You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.
Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.
Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.
As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.
Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street
Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.
The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.
Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.

'Corporate baddie'
Laughing through the ups and downs of working in corporate has been a hot trend on TikTok, so much so that Chicago native DeAndre Brown was able to become a full-time influencer after going viral for his posts about Generation Z in the workforce.
Val met up with Brown at his alma mater, Marian Catholic High School, where they talked about him becoming the internet's "corporate baddie" and his opinion on what corporations are getting wrong about Gen Z.
DeAndre Brown has come a long way since walking the halls at Marian Catholic.
"It's just so great that I'm now able to utilize my platform for people that look like me and identify with me to know that it is possible that you can be yourself and that you can go far in this world," he said.
Brown currently has over a million followers across multiple platforms and is affectionately known online as the "corporate baddie."
He was working from home for an investment banking corporation when he decided to start posting content about his experience in the workforce.
"I started my Gen Z work from home series to talk about Gen Z and the workforce, not realizing at the time that that was such a huge topic within corporate spaces," he said.
Brown said there are stereotypes about younger people in the corporate world, like the belief that Gen Z is lazier than other generations.
"I don't call it lazy, that Gen Z do want to work but we just want to work in a different way than what we once saw as the way to work. This hustle culture, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind. It's not effective. I think when you value your employees' mental health, that they will work harder at their job because they are in a clearer head space. This is what we should do. We should be setting boundaries; we should be taking mental health breaks and time for ourselves," Brown said.
Along with being an influencer, Brown has created his own consulting firm, Gen XL, that assists with influencer marketing, professional development and corporate consulting.

Brian Eno Announces First-Ever Solo Tour
The show will be based on the producer's 2016 LP, The Ship
Brian Eno has unveiled a European tour for Fall 2023, marking his first-ever solo live trek in a more than five-decade career.
The “Ships” tour will center around the groundbreaking musician-producer’s 2016 LP, The Ship , with accompaniment from the Baltic Sea Philharmonic (as conducted by Kristjan Järvithe), British actor Peter Serafinowicz , and Eno’s long-time collaborators Leo Abrahams and Peter Chilvers. The program opens in Venice on October 21st, and continues to Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; and Utrecht, The Netherlands before wrapping with back-to-back shows in London on October 30th. See the full schedule below.
Tickets for the “Ships” tour will go up for grabs starting June 8th at 11:00 a.m. CET here .
In a statement, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer shared, “The album The Ship is an unusual piece in that it uses voice but doesn’t particularly rely on the song form. It’s an atmosphere with occasional characters drifting through it, characters lost in the vague space made by the music. There’s a sense of wartime in the background, and a sense of inevitability. There is also a sense of scale which suits an orchestra, and a sense of many people working together.”
He added, “I wanted an orchestra which played music the way I would like to play music: from the heart rather than just from the score. I wanted the players to be young and fresh and enthusiastic. When I first saw the Baltic Sea Philharmonic I found all that… and then noticed they were named after a sea. That sealed it!”
Eno’s most recent solo album, FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE , arrived in October 2022, followed by an instrumental remix edition, titled Forever Voiceless , in April. In May, he released the collaborative album Secret Life with British producer Fred again..
He’s also contributed extensively to Peter Gabriel’s long-awaited, upcoming solo effort i/o , including the singles “The Court” and “Four Kinds of Horses.” The album is expected to drop later this year.

Shakira Makes Surprise Coachella Appearance to Perform 2 Songs and Announce World Tour
She named her tour the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which translates to the Women No Longer Cry World Tour
Shakira pops up whenever, wherever she wants — including Coachella !
The global superstar, 47, made a surprise guest appearance at the Indio, Calif., music festival on April 12 during Bizarrap ’s set to perform two songs together and to announce her next world tour.
Shakira revealed onstage on a big screen behind her that the title of the tour is Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour .
The tour, her first since 2018’s El Dorado World Tour, is named after her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran , which translates in English to Women No Longer Cry .

“So stoked to finally announce that LAS MUJERES YA NO LLORAN WORLD TOUR is happening! Can’t wait to be back on stage partying and celebrating with my wolfpack! 🐺,” the “She Wolf” singer wrote on Instagram after her surprise appearance. “Dates coming up soon — register for info / pre-sale access now ! Auuuuuuuuuuuuuu! #LMYNLWT”
The three-time Grammy winner and the Argentine producer performed “La Fuerte” and “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53” for the crowd, the latter of which contains lyrics about her 2022 breakup with longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqué , the aftermath and his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti .
“The thing is that some people on my team wanted me to change the lyrics — they were really scared about the reaction,” Shakira told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 ahead of the album’s March 22 release.
“I’m like, I’m not a U.N. representative, you know? I’m an artist, and no one’s going to tell me how I’m supposed to heal,” she continued. “And no one should tell any woman how she's supposed to heal and lick her wounds, you know?”

Shakira went on to explain her grief process after the split.
“This song was the perfect vehicle for me to channel all those emotions because I've been going through like what? How many stages of grieving? Five, seven, five, whatever. In my case, probably 12 or 20,” she said.
“But in those stages, you of course, you encounter anger, encounter denial,” Shakira added. “And it is important to get to the acceptance. But you can't skip stages. You have to go through all of them.”

Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Brian Harman among notables to miss the cut at the Masters

Sungjae Im, Justin Rose, Sam Burns will also fall short of cut line
Change Text Size
Jordan Spieth made a 9 at the par-5 15th in the first round of the Masters Tournament, matching his highest single-hole score on TOUR, en route to missing the cut by three strokes.
That was a harbinger of the cut-line chaos that unfolded Friday afternoon at Augusta National Golf Club, where 60 players made the cut at 6-over 148 or better. Players to miss the cut also included the last two major champions in Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman, in addition to world No. 6 Viktor Hovland, who carded a second-round 81 that included a three-putt double bogey from 5 feet at the par-5 15th hole, finishing two outside the number at 8-over 152.
Perhaps no player missed the cut in more heartbreaking fashion than Justin Thomas, who played his last four holes in 7-over for a back-nine 42 to miss by one stroke. Thomas was even-par for the tournament as he arrived at the 15th hole late Friday afternoon, but his second shot found the pond fronting the green, leading to a double bogey, which he followed with a double bogey at No. 16, bogey at No. 17 and double bogey at No. 18. It marked Thomas’ fourth missed cut in his last five major starts, and it bore similarities to his missed cut at last year’s Masters, where he also carded a back-nine 42 to miss the cut by one.
As the winds gusted Friday afternoon and the course continually dried out, scoring conditions grew more perilous by the minute. For most of Friday, the cut line looked most likely to settle at 4-over 146. Then it moved to 5-over 147 for a brief period. Then in the waning daylight, the cut line settled at 6-over 148, with 60 players advancing to the weekend at the Masters.
After 36 holes, the Masters field is cut to the low 50 players and ties. The second round finished with 11 players tied for 50th place at 6-over; if any one of these players finished a stroke better, the cut line would have been 5-over. Perilous margins on a perilous afternoon amidst Augusta’s famed loblolly pines, where three players share the lead at 6-under 138: Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa and Bryson DeChambeau.
Playing in Friday’s final grouping, reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark had a chance to become the 61st player onward to the weekend. Following a three-putt bogey at the 17th hole, Clark bombed a drive on the finishing hole and feathered a short iron to 13 feet for a birdie try that would move him to 6-over. The putt tracked toward the hole but turned right at the end, and he joined reigning U.S. Amateur champion Nick Dunlap (who had a 38-foot birdie try at the finishing hole) as 2023 USGA winners to miss the cut by one. Dunlap’s afternoon was not without heroics, as the 20-year-old made birdie at Nos. 13, 15 and 17 (against a bogey at No. 16) in a valiant effort that fell one stroke shy.
Joining Clark, Dunlap and Thomas at 7-over 149, missing the cut by one stroke, were Justin Rose, Sungjae Im, Austin Eckroat, Zach Johnson, Mike Weir, Lee Hodges and Sergio Garcia.
Players to advance on the number (6-over 148) included Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Grayson Murray, Si Woo Kim, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jake Knapp, Luke List, Thorbjørn Olesen, Russell Henley and two-time Masters winner Jose Maria Olazábal – who at age 58 overcame a triple bogey at the par-3 12th with a birdie at No. 16 to advance to the weekend.
Vijay Singh (4-over 146) was the oldest player to make the cut, carding rounds of 75-73 at age 61. The 2000 Masters champion will play the weekend at Augusta National for the first time since 2018.
Ohio State’s Neal Shipley, last year’s U.S. Amateur runner-up, advanced to the weekend at 3-over 145, securing low amateur honors as the only of five amateurs in the field to make the cut.
In all, 29 players failed to advance to the weekend, perhaps no name more startling than Spieth, whose game through the years has shown to fit Augusta National’s demands more than most. His missed cut stems back to the mercurial 15th in the opening round. After safely laying up to 77 yards, Spieth missed the green long on his third shot, and his pitch rolled across the green and into the pond fronting the green. He walked all the way back around the pond to play his sixth shot, which again sailed over the green. He chipped on and two-putted for 9, tying the highest single-hole score of his PGA TOUR career.
Spieth began the 15th hole at 2-over, and he ended it at 6-over. He followed the quadruple bogey with a par-bogey-par finish to his first round, and he wouldn’t get any closer to the cut line for the rest of his Masters.
Spieth, 30, reported wrist trouble that affected his preparation for last week’s Valero Texas Open, but he finished T10 anyway in his final start before the Masters. The week began with buzz regarding whether the Texan could recapture the form that produced a win and a pair of runners-up in his first three Masters appearances (2014-16). It wasn’t meant to be, but the good news for Spieth lies within his lifetime Masters invitation per his 2015 victory. He’ll have more chances to earn a second green jacket.
Burns stood well outside the cut line after an opening-round 80, but he moved to the precipice with birdies on Nos. 10, 12 and 13 in the second round, which put him at 5-over total. The LSU alum made bogey on No. 15, double bogey on No. 16 and bogey on No. 17 to finish outside the line for the second time in three Masters starts.
Harman will lament a back-nine 47 in his opening round, which included a triple bogey on No. 16 followed by back-to-back double bogeys on Nos. 17 and 18. That followed an encouraging 2-under 34 to start the Masters, and he carded a respectable even-par 72 in a blustery second round. Although he was 2-under across three of his four nines, that 47 means the reigning Open champion will sit this weekend out.
Couples has struggled with back issues throughout his career, and this week was no different as he gingerly navigated hilly Augusta National with rounds of 80-76. Couples vowed afterward, though, that he would return again to compete at the Masters. “I'm planning on being healthy and making the cut and telling Fred (Ridley, chairman of Augusta National) I'm coming back the next year, too,” he said afterward.
As a Masters champion, after all, Couples has earned the right to do so.
