FLORIDA FORT LAUDERDALE MISSION

Our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end.

We have been assigned to the Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission to bring Christ’s redeeming gospel to the world. Christ’s message is for all, and we have the privilege of sharing His light to all those who are ready to receive it.

History and geography

The Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission area was originally part of the Southern States Mission which was one of the earliest missions in the church, organized in 1875. On November 1, 1960, the Florida Mission was created to include all of Florida, the southern parts of Alabama and Georgia, and all the islands in the Caribbean. Church membership in the Florida Mission increased very rapidly.

On July 1, 1971, the Florida Southern Mission was organized. The new mission included all the islands in the Caribbean and the southern part of Florida. Continued increases in Church membership resulted in the formation of the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission on June 20, 1974. The Mission at that time included the bottom third of the Florida peninsula and all the islands in the Caribbean.

In July, 1979, the Caribbean began to have missions of its own with the formation of the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission.  On June 20, 1983, the Ft. Lauderdale Mission merged with the Tampa Mission for one year.  Continued growth, however, in both central and southern Florida resulted in the reopening of the mission on July 5, 1984.  There are eight stakes in this mission: Stuart, Boynton Beach, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Miami Lakes, Miami South and Naples.

The mission area includes many natural attractions including the world famous Everglades and the Florida Keys.  Ft. Lauderdale has been called “The Venice of North America” for its miles of waterways.  Sanibel Island is famous for its shell-strewn beaches. Miami is home to first and second generation Americans from across Central and South America and the Caribbean, giving the mission a distinct international feel.

There are about 7,300,000 people living in the mission and approximately 24,000 members of the Church. There are more members in Florida than in any other state east of the Mississippi River.

Missionary work in Florida is exciting and rewarding. The gospel is taught here in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese.  A warm welcome awaits you in “The Sunshine State”.

Calvary Church is committed to reaching the world for Christ! 

We currently support 72 missionary families who serve in 31 countries  around the world. Calvary missionaries share the Gospel through personal ministry, Bible translation, planting churches, discipling believers, and training and equipping local believers to reach their own countries.

Global Outreach Trips (GO Trips) provide opportunities for our Calvary family to participate in short-term missions trips around the world.

Below you'll find ways you can get involved in world missions projects and activities and ways you can support our missionaries through prayer.

Global Outreach Trips [GO Trips]  offer Calvary members unique short-term missions experiences, usually lasting ten days to two weeks. Frequently, Calvary GO Trips support one of our missionaries in the field.

GO Trips are open to everyone, including students, young adults, families, and seniors. They provide a life-changing opportunity to get involved in missions work and share the Gospel with people in another culture.

2024 GO Trips

GO Philippines — May 11–21 On this trip, medical clinics will be held in a local church and a refugee village. The team will support the mission by sharing the good news of the Gospel during patient registration, medical care, and follow-up. The estimated cost is $2,400. The application deadline is March 31.

GO Bolivia — June 13–20 This team will serve by painting and repairing a Church Leader Training Center in Bolivia, providing essential support for ongoing church planting, discipleship, and growth. The estimated cost is $1,800. The application deadline is April 7.

GO Kenya — July 15–27 Calvary has a long history of ministry with the Suba people of Kenya. This team will work with the Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre (GGCC), serve widows, train church leaders, and support the work of medical missions. Estimated cost is $4,200.  Get details and register for the trip below:

REGISTER — GO Kenya

GO Romania — August 14–23 This team will partner with our Calvary missionaries in the field to conduct VBS for children at a local church plant and in a refugee community. They will also train and encourage church leaders. Estimated cost is $2,400. The application deadline is May 26.

Joni & Friends Family Retreat — Aug 5–9 & Aug 12–16 At the Joni & Friends retreat center  in the NC mountains, volunteer participants ages 16+ will serve families affected by disabilities, sharing the love of Christ. Estimated cost is $525, or $500 before April 1. Get details and register for a retreat below:

GO Kazakhstan — October  Calvary partners with Bible Mission Global in Kazakhstan to plant churches that are centers of hope in their communities. This team will assist with training pastors, caring for widows, reaching children, and building a recreation field for church outreach. Estimated cost is $2,600.

Calvary Church is committed to reaching the world for Christ.  Your faithful and generous weekly giving will fund these special missions projects in 2024. 

Calvary provides materials and financial resources for global outreach opportunities, ministry development, special projects, and humanitarian aid through our missionary partnerships and agencies. Ongoing priorities include translating Scripture, planting churches, training pastors, printing and distributing Bibles, and evangelizing in closed-access countries. 

Below are some of our projects this year:

Ifugao Project // Philippines Now in its sixth year, this church planting and discipleship effort funds ten full-time indigenous pastors, training them to lead new self-sustaining congregations and reach their communities. Calvary will provide motorbikes to help the pastors travel and minister more effectively in this mountainous region. Bible Translation // Wycliffe Bible Translators Calvary is actively engaged in Bible translation in Tajikistan, Central Asia, India, Colombia, tribal Brazil, and tribal Mexico. These projects are often code-named in the closed-access areas where there is little Christian witness.

Bible Distribution Calvary provides Bibles for people around the world as well as local public schools and internationals in our community.

Trauma Healing Conferences // SIM Calvary missionaries equip church leaders to use Scripture and sound mental health principles to biblically care for victims of personal and global trauma, including trauma created by wars, conflict between people groups, civil disturbances, crimes, natural disasters, and epidemics.

Church Planting // South America Mission Continuing this five-year church planting project, Calvary is supporting two new churches in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Muslim Outreach // SIM Our ministry partners are training Kenyan pastors and using a missionary-led medical clinic to share Jesus and start churches among Muslim refugees.

Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church // SIM This project supports new office and dormitory space for the Calvary-supported Harding Bible School as they train the next generation of Christian leadership in Ethiopia and beyond. 

Seminary Scholarships // Uganda Calvary supports seminary education for young men who will become pastors and church planters in Uganda. 

Training Pastors International Calvary underwrites Pastor Training Institutes each year, helping pastors develop and disciple churches in Africa and Asia.

Missionary Support & Care In addition to the monthly support our missionaries receive through the General Fund Offering, Calvary helps meet our missionaries' emergency needs throughout the year.
