If you're a fan of going to the movies, odds are you've seen at least one Tom Cruise project. The "Mission: Impossible" star is absurdly famous around the world. As a result, many parts of his life have played out in very public ways on very public stages. 

Cruise is also a dad to three children. He shares his oldest, Isabella and Connor, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman , and his youngest, Suri , with ex-wife Katie Holmes. While it's clear that Cruise has a great relationship with Isabella and Connor, and both children are active members of his Scientology faith (per The U.S. Sun ), it's less clear what kind of relationship — if any — that he has with Suri. In fact, when Holmes and Cruise divorced, he affirmed that Holmes' desire to keep Suri out of the Scientology faith was a factor in their split (per HuffPost ).

The last public photos of Cruise and Suri date all the way back to 2012, when the two were snapped visiting Disneyland (per Yahoo! ). Here's a look into Tom Cruise's relationship with Suri and where it stands today.

Tom Cruise was so excited about Katie's pregnancy that he bought a sonogram machine

Like a lot of expectant parents, Tom Cruise was ecstatic about the impending arrival of his third child, Suri Cruise. In fact, he was so excited about Suri that he reportedly bought his own ultrasound machine so that he could see her every day. Cruise told Barbara Walters about the purchase, which can cost up to $200,000 (per  BBC News ). He seemed to understand that the purchase was on the lavish end, as he reassured people that the machine would be donated to a hospital after Katie Holmes gave birth.

However, not everyone thought the act was a great idea. In fact, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine issued a statement condemning the act, noting that the buy bordered on abusing the equipment. President Lennard Greenbaum, MD, said, in part, that "Tom Cruise's recent purchase of an ultrasound machine for personal use at home is both inappropriate and in violation of FDA rules addressing the sale of medical equipment."

Tom Cruise described his daughter Suri's birth as 'spiritual'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri Cruise on April 18, 2006 . From all accounts, and especially from Cruise's, Suri's arrival into the world was fairly extraordinary. In fact, only a few days after her birth, Cruise described the experience to "20/20" and still seemed in awe of everything he witnessed (via ABC News ). He said, "It was everything that we wanted it to be. ... It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable."

Plenty of outlets shared news of Suri's birth, as public interest in the newborn was quite high. CBS News  noted that Suri weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and clocked in at 20 inches long. A representative for Cruise and Holmes also shared information about her name, noting that Suri has Hebrew origins and can mean "princess," as well as Persian roots, which could give her name the meaning "red rose." 

Notably, Cruise and Holmes were also able to leave their home to head to the hospital in private, which was quite a feat considering the vast amount of attention they were receiving at the time.

Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise appeared to have a good relationship until 2012

In 2004, a then-engaged Katie Holmes admitted to Seventeen that she had once fantasized about marrying Tom Cruise (per HuffPost ). Fast-forward a few years, and Holmes found herself walking away from the very marriage she once said she wanted.

From all appearances, Tom Cruise and daughter Suri had a solid parent-child relationship up until 2012. That was the year that Katie Holmes filed for divorce in a move that apparently surprised Cruise. While speaking to German TV network ProSieben (via CBS News ), he admitted that he didn't see the divorce coming at all, saying, "I didn't expect it." He added, "Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor."

It seems that after he recovered from the shock of his wife of six years wanting a divorce, he bounced back pretty quickly. InStyle noted that the two were able to work through their divorce pretty quickly, with a settlement being reached after only 11 days. 

He admitted that Katie Holmes left him to 'protect' Suri from Scientology

While Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been pretty quiet when it comes for the exact hows and whys of their divorce, when pushed, Cruise definitely let something slip: One of big reasons Holmes said she wanted a divorce was reportedly to "protect" their daughter, Suri, from Cruise's religion, Scientology . The admission came out during his deposition during a libel lawsuit he filed against a tabloid. When asked if Holmes felt she had to protect Suri by leaving the relationship, as reported by  HuffPost , he first replied that the question was "offensive" and that "there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion," before saying, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

On top of that, Cruise also admitted that Suri was no longer a practicing member of the religion (per TMZ ). While HuffPost asserts this means Suri has now been deemed a "suppressive person" in the eyes of the Church of Scientology, there have been no public statements made to that effect. Notably, "suppressive" people are often, if not always, "cut off" from those that are still active members of Scientology.

Tom Cruise was not awarded custody of Suri

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hammered out the details of their divorce settlement in 11 days (per InStyle ), which is pretty remarkable. Surprisingly to many, Cruise was not awarded custody of the pair's daughter, Suri Cruise, at all, and instead walked away from the discussions with visitation rights only. In fact, Tom Cruise was told he can visit with Suri up to 10 days a month, according to Us Weekly .

Cruise also committed to a fairly hefty sum for child support, and TMZ reported that he pays over $33,000 a month for Suri's care. While that's noting to sniff at, it's a far cry from the sum a judge could have probably ordered him to pay if the divorce had gone to court, especially as his overall net worth is believed to be approximately $600 million (per Celebrity Net Worth ). Cruise is also in charge of covering any necessary expenses Suri might rack up, including medical and dental insurance, schooling, and college, and he also funds extracurricular activities (per TMZ).

It sounds like Tom Cruise doesn't always see Suri in person

Even though the custody agreement struck between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes makes it clear that he can see their daughter, Suri Cruise, for 10 days a month, it seems like he hasn't been able to make that happen. On top of that, a source apparently close to the situation told Us Weekly that this seems to be a deliberate choice that Cruise is making. The source told the publication, "Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to. He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist."

Outspoken critic of Scientology Tony Ortega spoke to Us Weekly about what might be going on behind closed doors, explaining that it's possible Holmes signed a document agreeing not to speak badly of the religion in order to get full custody. Ortega added that Holmes only had one objective: to take care of Suri. He said, "She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri."

In 2013, Tom Cruise admitted he hadn't seen Suri Cruise for 100 days

Things only got messier for Tom Cruise in the year after his divorce was finalized. In 2013, he admitted that he hadn't seen his youngest child for at least 100 days, explaining that his prolonged absence was due to his filming schedule. 

According to  People , Cruise said in a deposition hearing for her lawsuit again Bauer Publishing that it was "impossible" for him to see Suri during that time, and on top of that, he claimed that the then 7-year-old seemed just fine without him. After sharing that he's "very good" at talking to his daughter on the phone, Cruise added, "I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself."

He further explained that, though he missed Suri's first day of school, that was because his daughter didn't ask him to be there herself.

How long has it been since he's seen his daughter in person?

While Tom Cruise might have been able to explain why he didn't see Suri Cruise for 100 days, he then reportedly missed out on seeing his daughter in person for over 1,000 days. In 2016, In Touch Weekly reported that Cruise had not seen or exchanged words with Suri in over two and a half years. A source allegedly close to the situation told the publication that the pair had been using video chat and text messaging to stay in touch but that it had slowed down, before adding that Suri no longer really bought her father's explanations for why he was missing. The source said, "He uses his film commitments as an excuse, but the truth is that doesn't hold much weight with Suri anymore."

As in the past, some believe that Cruise's religion is the reason why he keeps missing out on his daughter's life. The same source told In Touch as much, noting, "He's disconnected from Katie, and then de facto from Suri, because of her connection to Katie. He hasn't seen her since she was 7."

A friend reportedly said Tom Cruise never meant to 'be estranged' from Suri

Despite Tom Cruise's reportedly prolonged period of estrangement from Suri, an alleged friend of his has stated that the actor never meant to be so far removed from his daughter. While speaking to Hollywood Life in 2019, the friend explained that, even though Cruise isn't with Suri on important days like her birthday, he's always planning for them. The friend said, "Tom does plan to send Suri a gift and call her on her birthday."

The friend added that Cruise has a lot of love for Suri, and that being this distant from his daughter wasn't something he anticipated when he and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri to the world. The friend explained, "Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day."

While it's unclear when Cruise will ever reconnect with his daughter, assuming the reports about their estrangement are true, one thing that is certainly true is that the path getting to this point has been long, winding, and, truth be told, quite confusing. Perhaps the two will grow closer when Suri is an adult.

Tom Cruise doesn't live in the same state as Suri

One factor that likely complicates the relationship between Tom Cruise and daughter Suri is that they don't live in the same state — or even the same country. While Suri lives in New York City with her mom, Katie Holmes, Cruise has reportedly been living in London, England, since April 2021 (per In Touch Weekly ).

A source told the publication that the city is a natural fit for Cruise, explaining that he especially enjoys the rainy weather and being able to walk around his new home. He is also reportedly fond of the city because of the anonymity it lends him. The source said, "If he wears a hat and mask, he can slip into bookstores or antique shops and no one knows it's him. He's got family living there, too, which gives him a sense of belonging."

As for Suri, she and her mom moved to New York following the divorce. Holmes admitted to InStyle in 2020 that the city isn't quite as private as she'd like, but she said that the city is just right for her and Suri. She shared, "What I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe."

Tom Cruise’s relationship with his daughter, Suri Cruise, is a topic that has long-bewildered fans of the actor.

In the 2000s, Cruise and Katie Holmes were regularly blasted across tabloids with their daughter. But, following their divorce in 2012, Cruise’s public appearances with Suri were rare.

Here are all the details on Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise's relationship now.

Does Tom Cruise see Suri?

Rumors have circulated that Cruise's role in the Church of Scientology has complicated his relationship with his youngest child.

Tom Cruise has not been seen publicly with Suri since 2012 and is reportedly estranged from his daughter.

According to Us Weekly, it has been 11 years since the "Top Gun" star was seen publicly with Suri, who is now 16 — almost 17 — years old.

It is unclear whether he has seen or spoken to her behind closed doors but Page Six claims the star has not seen Suri since she was 7.

“If he wanted to see her, he could see her,” one source told Page Six . “Even people in prison have a right to see their children.”

Katie Holmes has custody of Suri but Cruise was given visitation rights.

The “Mission Impossible” actor and the “Dawson’s Creek” alum settled proceedings just 11 days after Holmes filed for divorce. Holmes was granted custody of their daughter.

Cruise was given visitation rights of 10 days per month but sources claim he opts not to see her.

“He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist,” claimed an Us Weekly source in 2018.   Cruise reportedly pays over $33,000 per month in child support for Suri.

“He still loves her,” a source told Hollywood Life in 2019.

“Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day.”

Katie Holmes allegedly took Suri away from Tom Cruise to save her from Scientology.

Cruise is a member of the controversial Church of Scientology, a religious group often accused of being both a dangerous cult and a manipulative profit-making business.

Holmes also studied Scientology during their marriage but reportedly left Cruise to avoid becoming further entrenched in the group.

The actress now lives primarily in New York City with Suri, a relocation that may have helped her get her daughter out of the church.

In a 2013 libel suit against Bauer Media, whose magazines claimed he abandoned his daughter Suri Cruise, Cruise labeled the suggestion that Holmes divorced him "in part to protect Suri from Scientology" as “offensive.”

However, when asked if his ex-wife ever indicated that she left because of the religion or because she wanted to protect their daughter from Scientology, Cruise responded:

"Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

This likely means that Suri and Holmes have both been deemed a “Suppressive Person” by the church — a term Scientologists use to describe people who impede the progress of individual Scientologists or the Scientology movement.

Sources say that anyone who leaves the church is cut off from all members of the church, including their immediate family.

It is suspected that Holmes has been banned from speaking about Scientology.

The actress has never publicly spoken about her ex-husband’s religion nor why she left the church and critics of the group have suggested that she might be legally restricted from doing so.

Tony Ortega, former editor-in-chief of The Village Voice and a critic of Scientology, told Us Weekly that Holmes probably signed “some nondisclosure agreement saying she wouldn’t say anything bad about Scientology.”

“She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri,” Ortega explains.

He also suggested that she has been advised not to associate with Leah Remini, a fellow actress who has been outspoken about leaving the church.

“I’m sure her father, who’s a smart attorney, has probably told her that hanging out with Leah would be considered disparaging the church in the eyes of Tom and the church,” Ortega says.

Tom Cruise appears to have a relationship with the children he shares with Nicole Kidman.

Cruise also shares two adult children, Connor and Isabella, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman and, by all accounts, seems close with them. 

Both children, who were adopted by the former couple, recently promoted their father’s new movie, “Top Gun: Maverick” on their social media platforms.

Connor and Isabella are active members of the Church Of Scientology.

“They are adults," Kidman said about their faith in 2018. "They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them."

The " Dawson's Creek " alum looked back on how her and Tom Cruise 's 16-year-old daughter grew up in front of the public eye before opting to spend her tween years away from the spotlight.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," the 44-year-old recently told Glamour . "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."

However, that's not to say Holmes isn't open to Cruise being involved in her work . The actress and director enlisted her daughter to sing songs in her 2022 film "Alone Together " and her upcoming feature, "Rare Objects."

"I hope she always does something on my films," Holmes remarked. "I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people."

Like every other girl, she had dreams of marrying Tom, and her dreams came to pass. Two months after they started dating, they were ready to settle down and announced their engagement.

TOM CRUISE AND HIS DAUGHTER'S RELATIONSHIP BEFORE HIS DIVORCE FROM KATIE HOLMES

In 2012, Holmes and Tom divorced, and some fans were surprised. Before their divorce, Tom was highly involved in Suri's life. He said :

"My whole life, I always wanted to be a father."

He was never the type of father who believed that one could spoil a child with too much love. The actor acknowledged that giving a child too much love was impossible.

During the custody battle between Holmes and Tom, the actor confirmed in court that he only saw Suri for ten days between June 18, 2012, and Thanksgiving in 2012, meaning he did not see her for more than 100 days. An insider said :

"Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day."

Three years after their divorce, the actor sued two US magazines that claimed he "abandoned" his daughter Suri and didn't see her for 801 days.

The times were challenging for Tom and Suri. However, an insider shared that he always loved and thought about her even as she became a teenager. Samantha Domingo, a former Scientologist follower, said :

"Members of the Church are big believers in reincarnation, she says, so their viewpoint is that "Suri's not really his daughter — she's just a spiritual being in his daughter's body."

Domingo claimed the "Top Gun" star did not see his daughter for six years because his religion forbade it as Suri is not a devoted member.

The former member also claimed that he probably did it for a photo op to avoid criticism when the press sighted Tom with Suri. However, a spokeswoman for the church vehemently denied all of Domingo's allegations.

During the custody battle, Tom said there was no need to protect his daughter from his religion, and despite not seeing her, they spoke regularly over the phone.

One month after Holmes filed for divorce, she won primary custody of Suri, and years later, their relationship has flourished, with both of them closer than ever. Holmes said :

Holmes and Suri are almost always together and have attended several Hollywood events in each other's company. However, Holmes rarely offers details about her daughter's life to the public.

Nonetheless, in an interview in 2019, Holmes revealed that she loved growing up with Suri. She said :

"I was happy to become a mum in my twenties... It's been nice that our ages fit…"

As they grew older, she said their age difference had always been a good match. The mother and daughter duo have enjoyed things like shopping and going for walks together as they are incredibly close.

However, when Suri was younger, Holmes avoided going out because of the press, and she said :

"But there's one video where I'm holding her — she was 2 at the time — and she starts waving at the cameras. She's pretty special."

Holmes, who tries to be a fitness role model to her daughter, is also excited to set excellent examples for Suri without becoming too obsessed with trends.

On April 18, 2022, Suri turned 16, but her mom did not celebrate her birthday on her social media even though she celebrated Suri's 15th birthday on her Instagram. However, Holmes is proud of her daughter. She said :

"She came out very strong — she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, "OK, I'm going to try the next thing." She's very focused and a hard worker."

The excited mom loves how her daughter has matured and has her unique personality. Holmes and Suri share the same style, especially regarding their apartment.

Holmes revealed that she loves vintage art from flea markets and because they both wanted a cozy and soft apartment, they opted for a lot of colors to soften the intensity and hardness of the city around them.

A close source revealed that Holmes and Suri are more in sync as they get older and are a real team because their connection is beautiful.

Suri grew up to be an accomplished teenager. She started taking ballet lessons as a child and briefly studied guitar. Another source revealed that she is a talented athlete well-liked by her close friends. The source said :

"Suri is very naturally athletic and excels at physical activities like gymnastics and dance."

Suri, who is almost as tall as Holmes , attended an elite private school in Manhattan and even adopted a puppy in early 2022. She loves shopping and Broadway shows and has all the access to her favorite Broadway shows.

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise shockingly split from actress Katie Holmes after five years of marriage leading to a bitter custody battle for their daughter Suri in 2012.

At the time of the high profile breakup, their daughter was just five years old and Tom is said to have been estranged from her since 2013.

Now aged 16, Suri is thought to have already been applying to colleges without the help of her dad due to their lack of relationship.

It is understood Dawson's Creek actress Katie, 44, is heavily involved in the application process as she helps her daughter to take the next step in her life.

Katie was given 'sole custody' of Suri and according to the couple's divorce documents, Tom agreed to pay Katie $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18 years old, reports the Daily Mail .

Now, Tom, 60, hasn't seen his youngest daughter in a decade after Katie refused to join The Church of Scientology.

Tom also reportedly agreed to pay all of Suri's expenses, including "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs".

A source told the Daily Mail : "Suri does not know her father anymore and she has not spent time with him in a decade. She does not go to see his movies and he has no part in her life."

The teenager is said to be eyeing up studying fashion at Fordham University in The Bronx, New York.

Katie filed the divorce documents citing 'irreconcilable differences', something Cruise is reported to not have seen coming.

At the time it was understood Katie filed for divorce in New York because it could have given her a better chance at gaining sole custody of Suri.

New York family law judges tend to not like giving fighting parents joint custody because they believe that causes endless conflicts for the children.

The actress seeked full custody so she could remove her daughter from the Church of Scientology, who was reportedly attending a Scientology-influenced school in California at the time.

Katie is alleged to dislike and distrust the church, despite Tom's enthusiasm.

On July 9 2012, Katie's lawyer confirmed the divorce had been settled, with Katie having been granted 'sole custody' of Suri.

The former couple reached an agreement out of court.

A statement from the pair said: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."

According to TMZ, the agreement included details on what the parents were allowed to tell Suri regarding religion, including Scientology.

The restrictions were reportedly set to be eased as Suri got older.

Following the settlement, Suri was not expected to attend a Scientology school.

In 2019, author Samantha Domingo told Us Weekly that Tom was not allowed to have a relationship with Suri because she is not a Scientologist and due to the Church's belief in reincarnation, they would not view Suri as Tom's daughter.

Tom Cruise has two other children from his marriage with actress Nicole Kidman, who filed for divorce after 11 years in 2001 due to his Scientology ties.

The couple adopted Isabella and Connor , who stuck with Scientology after the split.

Bella lives in London with her IT consultant husband Max Parker, who married in a ceremony which incorporated Scientology and Christianity.

Connor, 28, opts to remain out of the spotlight having attempted to carve out an acting career. It is not clear whether he remained a Scientologist after growing up.

Tom has disagreed his Scientology belief has caused him to be estranged from Suri.

The Mirror has contacted Tom's representative for comment.

The Golden Globe winner became a parent while married to Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001.

After struggling to conceive, the former couple adopted daughter Isabella and son Connor in 1992 and 1995, respectively.

Amid their divorce, the “Big Little Lies” alum suffered an ectopic pregnancy . After splitting from Cruise and moving on with Keith Urban , Kidman later welcomed daughters Sunday and Faith via surrogate.

As for Cruise, he moved on with Katie Holmes in 2005. The duo welcomed their daughter, Suri, in April 2006, seven months before tying the knot in Italy.

Kidman and Cruise adopted Isabella shortly after she was born in 1992, and their daughter has followed in the “Mission: Impossible” star’s Scientologist footsteps.

In a March 2019 newsletter for the organization, Isabella thanked her dad “for everything.”

Although Kidman keeps quiet about her relationship with Isabella, she did speak about her adult children in a November 2018 Who interview .

“They are adults,” the Emmy winner said of Isabella and Connor at the time. “They are able to make their own decisions.

“ They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them,” she continued.

“I know 150 percent that I would give up my life for my children because it’s what my purpose is.”

Connor was also raised in the Church of Scientology after being adopted in 1995.

Cruise and Kidman’s adult son is active on social media and has documented his fishing trips, his new buzzcut hairstyle and more.

Over the years, Connor and his dad have been photographed on rare outings.

The duo watched basketball games together in Connor’s younger years, and have more recently been spotted boarding a helicopter and hanging out on the “Jack Reacher” set.

Holmes gave birth to Suri in 2006 and has maintained a close bond with her daughter.

The “Dawson’s Creek” alum told Town & Country in 2017 that she provides the little one with a “stable and innocent” childhood .

Cruise, however, still has “no part” of his youngest child’s life , a source exclusively told Page Six in March 2022.

In a 2012 defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media, the “Jerry Maguire” star said he didn’t see Suri for three months after his and Holmes’ breakup.

“Listen, when there is a divorce … things change,” Cruise said. “It’s not an ideal situation.”

Ex-Scientologist Leah Remini has asserted that Cruise “can’t be connected” to Suri because Holmes is considered a “suppressive person” or “enemy” in the religion.

Suri is Tom Cruise’s youngest child. The Academy Award-nominated actor welcomed his daughter in April 2006 with his then-wife, Katie Holmes, whom he first started dating in June 2005. The former couple reportedly got engaged that same year after only seven weeks of dating. Around the same time, Holmes, who was raised Catholic, reportedly began converting to Cruise’s Church of Scientology. The pair ultimately split in 2012, and it is believed that the Dawson’s Creek alum filed for divorce from Cruise in part to “ protect ” their daughter Suri from Scientology.

Holmes talked about how she wanted to give her child a normal childhood. She told Town & Country at the time, “My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now. It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed.”

Tom Cruise’s only son, Connor, was born in January 1995. The  Risky Business  star adopted Connor shortly after his birth with his then-wife, Nicole Kidman. The former couple, who got married in December 1990 and divorced in 2001, also adopted a daughter, Isabella, three years before they welcomed their son.

Isabella “Bella” Cruise is Tom Cruise’s eldest child. Bella was adopted by Cruise and his then-wife Nicole Kidman during their marriage, which lasted for a decade until 2001. Like her dad, Bella is a notoriously private person. What we do know about her is that she’s currently based in London, where she works as an artist and owns her own company. Bella is also married to Max Parker, an IT consultant.

When Bella got married in 2015, there was some speculation that she was estranged from her mother and father because neither attended the wedding. Tom Cruise Gives Clear Sign Daughter Suri's 18th Birthday Isn't On His Radar

As old as it makes us feel, Suri Cruise is an adult now. On April 18, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter celebrated her 18th birthday. As Holmes has worked to protect Suri's privacy as much as possible, we shouldn't expect to learn many details about her big day. But we have good reasons to believe Tom won't be a part of it. The "Mission: Impossible" star won't even be in the country when she blows out her candles. As sad as it is, it's also unsurprising.

Tom is said to be estranged from Suri , with reports claiming he hasn't seen his youngest child in more than a decade. The last time the two were photographed together was in 2013, two years after Tom and Holmes' messy divorce . Suri was just 7. Even though he wasn't seeing her, Tom reportedly still talked to Suri frequently in the first years post-split. "They used to Skype and text, but that trailed off drastically," a source told InTouch in 2016. 

While Tom often blames the estrangement on his busy schedule, the insider said the issues go deeper. "He uses his film commitments as an excuse, but the truth is that [he] doesn't hold much weight with Suri anymore." Tom still has obligations with Suri, though. As she gets ready to reportedly study fashion, Tom will likely be the one paying for her college , as established by his divorce settlement. But, as the document says nothing about birthdays, he has consistently been skipping those.

On April 17, Tom Cruise was all smiles while walking the streets of London (seen above), suggesting Suri Cruise's milestone birthday wasn't on his mind. Tom is in the U.K. capital filming the eighth "Mission: Impossible" movie and is expected to be there all week, according to the Daily Mail . The timeline indicates he won't be flying to New York to celebrate with his daughter. But Suri seemed to be having a great time regardless of her father's absence. 

On the eve of her birthday, she was spotted strolling through New York with friends while carrying gifts, Hello! reported. Suri may have made her peace with the fact Tom won't be there, but that reportedly wasn't always the case. In earlier years, Suri still held hope he would come around. "Like any little girl, her greatest wish is for her father to be there, and now she's been disappointed again," a source told Star when she turned 12 in 2018 (via YourTango ).

However, other sources have said Tom talks to Suri on her birthdays. "Suri gets a gift from Tom on her birthday every year and this year was no exception," an insider told HollywoodLife  in 2018. The following year, he intended to do the same, a source told HollywoodLife . It's unclear whether he did or didn't, but Tom reportedly struggles with the estrangement. "As challenging as things have become for him and his daughter, he still loves her," the insider said.

Tom Cruise was last seen publicly with his daughter Suri , 13, when she was seven years old.

However, since his divorce from her mother Katie Holmes the father and daughter are rumoured to be estranged from one another. But according to sources, Tom, a devout Scientologist , says he’s ready to make some changes with his relationship with Suri.

“I think enough time has passed now that the sting of Katie leaving him has dissipated,” the insider tells American magazine In Touch .

“It’s just time. It was heartbreaking and humiliating for Tom when Katie left him. He must have felt lied to.”

According to the publication Tom “recently sent a message to Katie”.

“Tom made it clear he intends to see Suri again. Something seems to have shifted in Tom’s world.”

Tom had a great relationship with Suri

Despite Tom having 10 days a month to see Suri, insiders say that to date, the actor has not taken up the opportunity to bond with his daughter and Katie is considered a “suppressive person” at odds with the Church of Scientology.

But now, In Touch reports that that Tom is hoping to see his daughter again.

‘There’s his acting world, his religion world and now, hopefully Suri will be part of his life again. I truly believe he wants a relationship with her. At the end of the day Suri only has one father and that’s Tom,’ adds the source.

The reports follow allegation carried in another American publication that Tom’s reported lack of involvement is due to religious teachings.   “Tom’s not allowed spiritual counselling in the church if he has any connection with Katie, so Suri would be collateral damage,” former Scientologist Samantha Domino told  National Enquirer .

According to Samantha, Tom may believe that although he does not have a relationship with her now, that he may see her in another lifetime.

Tom Cruise: Why I Didn't See Suri for 100 Days

In a court battle, he answers tough questions about his parenting and Scientology

A court battle has put Tom Cruise in the hot seat, forcing him to answer questions about his time away from daughter Suri and his ex-wife Katie Holmes ‘s departure from Scientology.

In a deposition taken in Los Angeles on Sept. 9 (a transcript of which was filed publicly), Cruise was questioned by Elizabeth McNamara, the lawyer for Bauer Publishing, which Cruise is suing for $50 million over an In Touch cover story claiming he “abandoned” Suri after his June 2012 divorce from Holmes.

Cruise acknowledged that he didn’t see Suri, 7½, in person for more than 100 days, from Aug. 4, 2012, when they wrapped up a weeklong father-daughter vacation to Disney World , until that Thanksgiving .

“Unfortunately in this situation it was impossible” with his intense filming schedule in London on the sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill , Cruise said.

Cruise said he phoned Suri nearly every day, though agreed that phone calls are a poor substitute for seeing a child in person. Talking to a young child on the phone, “you have to work at it. I’ve gotten very good at it. I tell wonderful stories,” he said. “I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself.”

Cruise didn’t travel to New York City for Suri’s first day of school that September due to his work schedule and concerns about the media attention, he said, adding that Suri had never brought it up.

“If she had asked me to be there, I would have been there,” he said. “I would have worked it out in any way I could.” He said he also couldn’t leave the “grueling” movie shoot when Holmes later suggested he come to New York in October, and other times the exes couldn’t work out scheduling for a visit.

“Things change and there is different agreements, like in any divorce, where you work out schedules,” he said. “It’s just a different set of circumstances. It certainly does not mean that I’ve abandoned my daughter.”

In the wide-ranging, often contentious deposition, Cruise’s attorney Bert Fields was on hand as the star was forced to answer questions about everything from his use of private jets to Scientology.

He revealed that Suri is no longer practicing the religion. Pressed about whether Holmes left him to “protect” Suri from Scientology, Cruise responded, “I find that question offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.”

But asked whether Holmes left him in part for that reason, Cruise said, “that was one of the assertions, yes. There are many other aspects to the divorce.”

Cruise also was asked about Scientology’s definition of a “suppressive person,” which includes, according to a definition on the church’s website, those who publicly renounce Scientology and therefore lose “fellowship with the Church as well as with other Scientologists.”

Cruise said that description was accurate, but when asked whether the church would consider Holmes to be a suppressive person, he responded: “That is a distortion and simplification of the matter. I don’t want to just give an oversimplification of religious doctrine.

He acknowledged that his older kids, Isabella and Connor, whose mom is Nicole Kidman , haven’t had contact with Holmes since the split.

According to the outlet, Tom will no longer be required to pay child support to his ex-wife now that Suri has reached the age of 18, which may sever one of their last remaining ties.

The youngster was unveiled to the world as a newborn baby on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2006, but her mom has since taken steps to shield her from the spotlight as much as possible.

‘What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,’ she told the outlet.

‘I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.’

Despite this, she has allowed Suri the opportunity to follow in her footsteps in the industry over the years – and invited her to sing on her recent projects, Rare Objects and Alone Together.

‘I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people,’ she continued.

‘And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.

‘It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this.’

Tom Cruise is a father-of-three and on April 18th, his youngest daughter  Suri Cruise turned 18. 

The Mission Impossible star shares Suri with his ex-wife, Katie Holmes , and the birthday girl was pictured looking happy as she walked around New York City with a friend, while clutching onto a birthday present. 

Suri is thought to have celebrated more over the weekend with her mom, while Tom was pictured in London at another milestone birthday party. 

Tom was one of the many celebrity guests at Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday , which was held at Oswald's. 

Other well-known faces in attendance included Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek and Marc Anthony. The Spice Girls also reunited, with Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, Mel B and Mel C posing with the birthday girl. 

Tom was all smiles in a number of photos posted on the night, looking smart in a tuxedo. As well as Suri, Tom is also father to adopted grown-up children, Isabella 'Bella', 31, and Connor, 29, who he shares with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.

Suri was heard singing the opening credits of Katie's film, Alone Together, when she was just 15. She sang a pitch-perfect rendition of Blue Moon, and her mom was more than proud. 

Chatting to Yahoo! Entertainment about her daughter's role in the movie, she said: "She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it and I let her do her thing. "That's the way I direct in general: It's like, 'This is what I think we all want - go do your thing'." 

The mom-of-one was asked why she chose Suri for the job and she said: "I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her." 

In 2022, Katie gave another rare snippet into her relationship with Suri, telling InStyle: "I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 per cent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it."
