New York City Duck Tour is a unique half-boat, half-bus amphibious vehicle offering New York City's first ever land and water visitor experience. Be prepared to be rocked and splashed through history!

The new AquaBus fleet meets rigid safety and environmental standards and has been designed to evoke the memory of Henry Hudson's famous ship, The Half Moon. The New York City Duck Tour starts in Times Square and navigate the streets of Manhattan to the waters of the Hudson River. At the edge of the Hudson, the AquaBus will enter the AquaBus Theater for an exhilarating multi-media experience, simulating Henry Hudson's journey, complete with the sights and sounds - the rushing wind and other surprises - of an Atlantic sea voyage.

Then you will splash into the Hudson River for an explorer's eye view of the New York skyline, something Henry Hudson never saw. After returning to land you will return to Times Square.

This tour is seasonal and operates from April to October only.

The NYC Duck Tour Launched In 2009

You may have been on a classic New York City bus tour or even a boat tour…but what about duck tour that drives around the streets and then sails in the river?

The bus/boat tour starts in the heart of Times Square and makes its way through Manhattan and then into the waters of the Hudson River (yes, you read that correctly; the “Duck” is an amphibious vehicle that transitions easily from land to water). The vehicle was inspired by the voyages of Henry Hudson’s ship The Half-Moon .

Who Was Henry Hudson? Does He Drive the Boat?

Henry Hudson, for those who need a refresher, was the 16th century explorer who is known for discovering both New York and the Hudson River.

The road and river tour, that was recently also known as the New York Splash Tour , includes travels to view some of New York's most famous sights (tour guides are on hand to point them out); and a stop in the NYC Ducks Theater, where you’ll experience a multimedia motion-simulator ride that mimics Hudson’s journey across the Atlantic (complete with rushing wind).

Duck Tour Tickets

While “Duck” tours are available at other locations around the world, New York Duck Tours is the only one that offers the full multimedia experience and is the only one in NYC!

The tour culminates with a splash into the Hudson River for a fabulous view of Manhattan. The Duck returns to Times Square after the tour. The tour lasts between 60 and 75 minutes.

Tickets can be purchased online ( http://www.coachusa.com/nycducks/ ) or by calling 1-888-838-2570. The tour check-in is on 8th Avenue near Restaurant Row; the exact location will be given when you make your reservation. Departures are offered daily from April through November.

2012 UPDATE:

The nyc duck tour operation was cancelled in december 2012 as the boat was deemed not safe for the extreme conditions of the hudson river and failed to get an operators license by the city, discount broadway tickets.

2024 New York State Conservation Report

New york's ducks.

The Great Lakes Region, Mid Atlantic Coast, St. Lawrence Plain and Prairie Pothole Region are important to New York waterfowl hunters.

A significant amount of the mallards harvested in New York each year are produced in the St. Lawrence Plain, Great Lakes Region and Mid Atlantic Coast. We receive a good part of our diving duck migration from the Prairie Pothole Region and Great Lakes Region. A considerable portion of our teal and other puddle ducks originate in the Prairie Pothole Region.

The Prairie Pothole Region, Great Lakes Region, and St. Lawrence Plain are all DU conservation focus areas, as is the Mid Atlantic Coast.

There is no waterfowl conservation organization that represents the needs of New York waterfowl hunters like Ducks Unlimited.

Our critical conservation work provides support to our migration both on the breeding grounds and here at home.

With your help, we will preserve our waterfowl hunting heritage through habitat conservation of these areas critical to the New York migration and harvest.

Yes, thank you. We are New Yorkers so a bus tour wouldn't be exciting.... A truck that turns into a boat though would be pretty cool for our boys. I am very surprised that they went it of business.

My husband was skeptical at first since it was a bus tour and I was worried we wouldn’t get enough time at our stops, BUT it was great! I felt like there was a perfect amount of time to look and take pictures and even, when available, to stop at the gift shops. Our guide was informative and dependable. The complimentary water was great and we appreciated the access to free ponchos since it was a heavy sprinkle off an on during our tour. The bus was great, the perfect temperature and the seats are comfortable.

Did it on my first day in DC and gave me ideas on what to revisit or what other venues to go to. The guide Christopher was very knowledgeable and came over excellently.

We had a wonderful tour with Joey! She was knowledgeable, engaged, funny, friendly and a terrific host. We highly recommend this tour. Our only regret is that we didn’t have another day to spend in DC sightseeing!
