33 Thank You For Visiting Note Messages

A Family Visiting

After someone visits with you, you may want to thank the friend or family member for visiting.

I have included the examples below that will help you with the wording to say thank you to someone after they visit. The message ideas will help you express your gratitude and appreciation.

If you were the guest and want to thank the host, read the “ Thank you for having me over ” post.

Note: The sample messages are for personal visits at homes to thank someone for visiting, not for when someone visited a business, restaurant, event, fundraiser, etc.

I prefer writing a handwritten thank-you note card, but you could also send a thank-you email or text message.

Thank You For Visiting Message Template

You can use this template to thank guests after they visit you.

Dear [Person’s Name],

Thank you for visiting [me/us] [say here when they visited (ex. last week)]. I enjoyed spending time with you [and your family – or whoever else came along]. [Mention more about the visit, perhaps from the list above].

Please stop by again [if you want them to – or say “Thanks Again” instead]

[Your Name]

Note: fill in words in [brackets] as needed for your note.

What to Thank the Visitor(s) For

Here are a few suggestions of what you could thank your family or friends for after they visit you.

  • Travel time if they came from a distance.
  • Any food, dessert, or treat they brought (you make want to review the thank you for the cookies examples too)
  • The great conversation, quality time, or something you learned.
  • Anything fun you did together during the visit.
  • The laughter and good times!

Tips for Your Thank-You Note Messages

Here are some more tips for saying thank you for a visit.

  • Most people enjoy compliments, so consider including one.
  • Be as specific as possible about what you are thanking the person for.
  • If the visit was for a holiday, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, your birthday, another event, or another special occasion, you could modify the examples to include appropriate wording. For example, adding “birthday” before the word “visit.”
  • You can also mention future visits if you plan to meet again soon.
  • Please read through all the examples, as you can pick and choose wording that will work best for you when you write your note. You want the message to sound like things you would say and not like you copied a random example from the Internet.
  • If you write a handwritten note or email, include all the thank-you note parts. For example, you can see all five parts of a thank you note here or follow the template below:

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

1. Try to make your writing interesting for the reader. To do this, you can make it personal with your own memories and experiences.

2. Use adjectives to add detail to your descriptions.

3. Write clear and simple sentences and organise your ideas in short paragraphs. Give each paragraph a different topic.

4. Use so, but, and, because and other linking words.

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

How to get the most out of your next doctor’s visit.

  • July 30, 2020
  • For Patients , Resources

during your last visit

As we age, visits to your doctor and other specialists become more frequent and sometimes more stressful – especially for seniors who are managing a chronic condition, making a doctor’s visit template essential.

Having a basic plan can help you make the most of your appointment, whether you are starting with a new doctor or continuing with the doctor you’ve seen for years.

Here is a template on how to prepare for a doctor’s visit.

Preparing For Your Appointment

Write down your questions.

List the things you want to discuss with the doctor. Perhaps you have fallen recently, or maybe you are concerned about the side effects of a particular prescription. These are things you want to discuss with your physician, and writing them down will help you remember! Most appointments last around 15 to 20 minutes, so remember to be realistic about what you can accomplish in a single visit. If you discover that you have a laundry list of questions and concerns, try to prioritize your top two or three items. If you are unable to cover everything, ask your doctor about scheduling a follow-up.

Make a List of Your Medications

Before your appointment, make a list of all prescriptions, vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter medications you take. Be sure to include the dosage, what you use it for, and medication instructions. Your medications may change over time, so be sure to bring up-to-date information to every appointment. The National Institute on Aging has an easy-to-use doctor appointment template that you can print and fill out prior to your visit.

Know Your Health History

Being able to talk to your doctor about any previous medical problems and procedures can make an office visit more efficient. Again, it might be helpful to have this written out as well. Genetics matter, too, so knowing your family’s health history can also be beneficial.

Gather Important Documents

Wondering what to bring to your doctor’s appointment? Even if you have seen this doctor previously, it’s always wise to bring your Medicare or insurance card. If you currently see any other doctors or specialists, make a list of their names and office phone numbers, just in case they need to be reached. If you have any important medical records or recent test results from another physician, bring those with you as well.

During Your Visit

Get straight to the point.

Remember, you have a limited amount of time with the physician, so use it wisely. Fill your doctor in on any changes in your health since your last visit. Mention any health changes you have noticed. This is the time to go over your top two or three questions or concerns. (Remember: It’s about quality over quantity. If you don’t get to everything on your laundry list of discussion items, ask if you can make another appointment or follow-up with the doctor’s nurse.)

Be direct, honest, and specific when recounting your symptoms or expressing your concerns. Many patients are reluctant or embarrassed to discuss their symptoms. This only makes your doctor’s job more difficult, and it could prevent you from receiving the care you need.

Consider taking a pen and notepad with you to write down some notes during your visit. Once you level the office, it’s easy to forget what was said, but looking back on your notes from the visit will help jog your memory. If you discuss a specific condition or a new prescription during your appointment, ask your doctor if he or she has any informational pamphlets that you might take home with you.

If you are unclear about something your doctor says or they are speaking too quickly for you to understand, ask them to repeat the information. Again, you only have a few minutes with the physician, but those few minutes belong to you. If something doesn’t make sense, speak up.

Visiting the doctor can often be a stressful experience, especially for seniors. But with a little preparedness, doctors’ visits can go a lot smoother and can result in better care . Be sure to also check out our at-home health services .

DS-160 Form Guide: Previous U.S. Travel Information

The DS-160 form is required for any type of US non-immigrant visa. Among other things, it asks for previous US travel information.

  • Date Arrived: Format: DD-MM-YYYY If you are unsure about when you visited the U.S., please provide your best estimate.
  • Driver’s License Number
  • State of Driver’s License
  • Date Last Visa Was Issued  In Format: DD-MM-YYYY
  • Visa Number Click “Do Not Know”, if appropriate. This number is the red color number towards the lower right side of the visa stamp . For lost or stolen visas, check “Do Not Know”. Mexico: If you have a laser visa, the visa number is on the right side of the first row of numbers. The visa number will start with the initials for the post that issued your visa. E.g., MER for Merida.
  • Are you applying for the same type of visa?
  • Are you applying in the same country or location where the visa above was issued, and is this country or location your place of principal or residence?
  • Have you been ten-printed? Ten-printed means that you have provided fingerprints for all your fingers, as opposed to having provided only two fingerprints.
  • Has your U.S. Visa ever been lost or stolen?   If you answer “Yes, enter the year visa was lost or stolen, and provide an explanation.
  • Has your U.S. Visa ever been cancelled or revoked? If you answer “Yes”, please provide an explanation.
  • Have you ever been refused a U.S. Visa, been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at the point of entry? If you have ever been refused a U.S. visa, write the details about it here. You have to answer “Yes”, even if some other type of U.S. visa was denied in the past. You must tell the truth here (and, of course, everywhere in this entire process). Consulates check your file and records anyway. They can also check whether you lied earlier, used fraud documents to apply for a visa before, or whether you violated visa terms before. If any of that is true, it would be difficult for you to get a visa. Even if your visa is refused under Section 221(g) because of a missing document, and now you can present the document, it is nonetheless a refusal, and, therefore, you must respond “Yes” to this question and provide all the subsequent details requested. Many people have been denied a tourist visa or student visa in the past. That is not a problem if you apply for an H1 visa, Fiance (K1) visa, etc. later. However, if you were refused because of some fraud, this application may be denied as well.
  • Are you or have you ever been a U.S. legal permanent resident?
  • Has anyone ever filed an immigrant petition on your behalf with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service?  Choose “Yes” or “No”. If you choose “Yes”, please explain. (Note: This question only pertains to immigrant petitions, not nonimmigrant petitions such as I-129F for a K-1 fiancé visa.)

Last year, I had the chance the amusement park, Zarcero, and  Ciudad Quesada in a day. I wen t with my daughter, my wife, and some friends.

We woke up early that day and our friends drove us to the amusement park, my daughter enjoyed the many rides available, we ate pizza and we left  around three.

Then we  headed to San Carlos, on the way to San Carlos we stopped by the catholic church and took some pictures of ourselves in the gardens.

We got to San Carlos around 5:00 PM, we had dinner there, picked some people up, and headed home.

Last year I  spent  my vacation at the beach. I  traveled  with some friends of mine. We arrived at the beach at 8:00 AM, we immediately went swimming then we made some sandwiches for lunch.

After lunch, we went running and we left the beach before 6:00 PM.

We drove back to the hotel and we  had dinner there. Around 9, we called our friends and we met outside a dance club because we wanted to dance.

We spent like three hours in the club and we got back to the hotel.

Last year, I went to Cartagena with my family and my best friend Luis. We visited my cousins Mayra and Alejandra. I hadn’t met them before, so I was really excited to meet them.

My first impression of them it was very good, they are friendly and fun. We went to visit many places but my favorite place was Barú island.

That island is amazing, it looks like a paradise, I took many pictures of every single we did.

The food was excellent. We ate shrimp rice and a shrimp cocktail. I had a great time with my family. We spent three amazing days in Cartagena.

Hello. I’d like to share with everybody the great time that I had on my last vacation. I went to Conchal Beach with my friends. We stayed at a small hotel right in front of the beach.

The first day we were there we took surfing lessons, my friends and I had so much fun hanging out at the beach.

There was another beach nearby, probably a five-minute walk and you are in Brasilito beach. We watched the sunset and we set a fire at night.

We spent most of the three days on the beach and we usually went to a club at night located in a place called Tamarindo. There is a beach in Tamarindo too.  It was one of the most special times I’ve had in my life.

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Guatemala I know Guatemala well because I lived there when I was a missionary more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It wa s so much fun.

I wanted to visit all the places I lived, so I visited Baja Verapaz. It has changed a lot. I also went to the supermarket near my old house.

We did some touristy things too. We went to Tikal. Nature is amazing up there. We walked across the historic monuments.

These are some questions and answers about my last vacation in English

  • I went to Coco Beach
  • I went to Samara Last week
  • I went to a resort with my parents
  • We rented a car
  • I went surfing with my friends

Appointments at Mayo Clinic

  • Pregnancy week by week

Prenatal care: 3rd trimester visits

During the third trimester, prenatal care might include vaginal exams to check the baby's position.

Prenatal care is an important part of a healthy pregnancy, especially as your due date approaches. Your health care provider might ask you to schedule prenatal care appointments during your third trimester about every 2 or 4 weeks, depending on your health and pregnancy history. Starting at 36 weeks, you'll need weekly checkups until you deliver.

Repeat routine health checks

You'll be asked if you have any signs or symptoms, including contractions and leakage of fluid or bleeding. Your health care provider will check your blood pressure and weight gain, as well as your baby's heartbeat and movements.

Your health care provider might ask you to track of how often you feel the baby move on a daily basis — and to alert your health care team if the baby stops moving as much as usual.

Also, talk to your health care provider about any vaccinations you might need, including the flu shot and the tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. Ideally, the Tdap vaccine should be given between 27 and 36 weeks of pregnancy.

Test for group B strep

Expect to be screened for group B streptococcus (GBS) during the third trimester. GBS is a common bacterium often carried in the intestines or lower genital tract that's usually harmless in adults. But babies who become infected with GBS from exposure during vaginal delivery can become seriously ill.

To screen for GBS , your health care provider will swab your lower vagina and anal area. The sample will be sent to a lab for testing. If the sample tests positive for GBS — or you previously gave birth to a baby who developed GBS disease — you'll be given intravenous antibiotics during labor. The antibiotics will help protect your baby from the bacterium.

Check the baby's position

Near the end of pregnancy, your health care provider might check to see if your baby is positioned headfirst in the uterus.

If your baby is positioned rump-first (frank breech) or feet-first (complete breech) after week 36 of pregnancy, it's unlikely that the baby will move to a headfirst position before labor. You might be able to have an external cephalic version. During this procedure, your health care provider will apply pressure to your abdomen and physically manipulate your baby to a headfirst position. This is typically done with ultrasound guidance by an experienced doctor. If you prefer not to have this procedure, or if your baby remains in a breech position, your health care provider will discuss planning a C-section delivery.

Keep asking questions

You will likely have plenty of questions as your due date approaches. Is it OK to have sex? How will I know when I'm in labor? What's the best way to manage the pain? Should I create a birth plan? Ask away! Feeling prepared can help calm your nerves before delivery.

Also, be sure to discuss signs that should cause you to call your health care provider, such as vaginal bleeding or fluid leaking from the vagina, as well as when and how to contact your health care provider once labor begins.

Doctor Visits

Get Your Medicare Wellness Visit Every Year

Woman talking with health care provider.

Take Action

If you have Medicare, be sure to schedule a yearly wellness visit with your doctor or nurse. A yearly wellness visit is a great way to help you stay healthy.

What happens during a yearly wellness visit?

First, the doctor or nurse will ask you to fill out a questionnaire called a health risk assessment. Answering these questions will help you get the most from your yearly wellness visit.

During your visit, the doctor or nurse will:

  • Go over your health risk assessment with you
  • Measure your height and weight and check your blood pressure
  • Ask about your health history and conditions that run in your family
  • Ask about other doctors you see and any medicines you take
  • Give advice to help you prevent disease, improve your health, and stay well
  • Look for any changes in your ability to think, learn, or remember
  • Ask about any risk factors for substance use disorder and talk with you about treatment options, if needed

If you take opioids to treat pain, the doctor or nurse may talk with you about your risk factors for opioid use disorder, review your treatment plan, and tell you about non-opioid treatment options. They may also refer you to a specialist.

Finally, the doctor or nurse may give you a short, written plan to take home. This plan will include any screening tests and other preventive services that you’ll need in the next several years. Preventive services are health care services that keep you from getting sick.

Learn more about yearly wellness visits .

Plan Your Visit

When can i go for a yearly wellness visit.

You can start getting Medicare wellness visits after you’ve had Medicare Part B for at least 12 months. Keep in mind you’ll need to wait 12 months in between Medicare wellness visits.

Do I need to have a “Welcome to Medicare” visit first?

You don’t need to have a “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit before getting a yearly wellness visit.

If you choose to get the “Welcome to Medicare” visit during the first 12 months you have Medicare Part B, you’ll have to wait 12 months before you can get your first yearly wellness visit.

Learn more about the “Welcome to Medicare” visit .

What about cost?

With Medicare Part B, you can get a wellness visit once a year at no cost to you. Check to make sure the doctor or nurse accepts Medicare when you schedule your appointment.

If you get any tests or services that aren’t included in the yearly wellness visit (like an extra blood test), you may have to pay some of those costs.

Who Can Get Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program. You may be able to get Medicare if you:

  • Are age 65 or older
  • Are under age 65 and have a disability
  • Have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig's disease
  • Have permanent kidney failure (called end-stage renal disease)

You must be living in the United States legally for at least 5 years to qualify for Medicare.  Answer these questions to find out when you can sign up for Medicare .

Make an Appointment

Take these steps to help you get the most out of your Medicare yearly wellness visit.

Schedule your Medicare yearly wellness visit.

Call your doctor’s office and ask to schedule your Medicare yearly wellness visit. Make sure it’s been at least 12 months since your last wellness visit.

If you're looking for a new doctor,  check out these tips on choosing a doctor you can trust .

To find a doctor who accepts Medicare:

  • Search for a doctor on the Medicare website
  • Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)
  • If you use a TTY, call Medicare at 1-877-486-2048

Gather important information.

Take any medical records or information you have to the appointment. Make sure you have important information like:

  • The name and phone number of a friend or relative to call if there’s an emergency
  • Dates and results of checkups and screening tests
  • A list of vaccines (shots) you’ve gotten and the dates you got them
  • Medicines you take (including over-the-counter medicines and vitamins), how much you take, and why you take them
  • Phone numbers and addresses of other places you go to for health care, including your pharmacy

Make a list of any important changes in your life or health.

Your doctor or nurse will want to know about any big changes since your last visit. For example, write down things like:

  • Losing your job
  • A death in the family
  • A serious illness or injury
  • A change in your living situation

Know your family health history.

Your family's health history is an important part of your personal health record.  Use this family health history tool  to keep track of conditions that run in your family. Take this information to your yearly wellness visit.

Ask Questions

Make a list of questions you want to ask the doctor..

This visit is a great time to ask the doctor or nurse any questions about:

  • A health condition
  • Changes in sleeping or eating habits
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, or supplements

Some important questions include:

  • Do I need to get any vaccines to protect my health?
  • How can I get more physical activity?
  • Am I at a healthy weight?
  • Do I need to make any changes to my eating habits?

Use this question builder tool  to make a list of things to ask your doctor or nurse.

It can be helpful to write down the answers so you remember them later. You may also want to take a friend or relative with you for support — they can take notes, too.

What to Expect

Know what to expect at your visit..

The doctor or nurse will ask you questions about your health and safety, like:

  • Do you have stairs in your home?
  • What do you do to stay active?
  • Have you lost interest in doing things you usually enjoy?
  • Do you have a hard time hearing people on the phone?
  • What medicines, vitamins, or supplements do you take regularly?

The doctor or nurse will also do things like:

  • Measure your height and weight
  • Check your blood pressure
  • Ask about your medical and family history

Make a wellness plan with your doctor.

During the yearly wellness visit, the doctor or nurse may give you a short, written plan — like a checklist — to take home with you. This written plan will include a list of preventive services that you’ll need over the next 5 to 10 years.

Your plan may include:

  • Getting important screenings for cancer or other diseases
  • Making healthy changes, like getting more physical activity

Follow up after your visit.

During your yearly wellness visit, the doctor or nurse may recommend that you see a specialist or get certain tests. Try to schedule these follow-up appointments before you leave your wellness visit.

If that’s not possible, put a reminder note on your calendar to schedule your follow-up appointments.

Add any new health information to your personal health documents.

Make your next wellness visit easier by updating your medical information in the personal health documents you keep at home. Write down any vaccines you got and the results of any screening tests.

Medicare offers an online tool called  MyMedicare  to help you track your personal health information and Medicare claims. If you have your Medicare number, you can  sign up for your MyMedicare account now .

Healthy Habits

Take care of yourself all year long..

After your visit, follow the plan you made with your doctor or nurse to stay healthy. Your plan may include:

  • Getting important screenings
  • Getting vaccines for older adults
  • Keeping your heart healthy
  • Preventing type 2 diabetes
  • Lowering your risk of falling

Your plan could also include:

  • Getting active
  • Eating healthy
  • Quitting smoking
  • Watching your weight

What to expect from third trimester prenatal appointments

During the third trimester, you’ll see your doctor every two weeks, then every week, to check for signs of preterm labor and assess your baby's growth and well-being. Here's exactly what will happen, and questions to ask your doctor.

Layan Alrahmani, M.D.

How often will you have prenatal appointments during the third trimester?

What happens at your third trimester appointments, third trimester testing, questions to ask your ob-gyn during your third trimester, remember to discuss postpartum considerations.

By the time you hit the third trimester ( 28 weeks through the end of pregnancy), you're probably anxious for the baby to arrive and want to get some much-needed rest while you can.

The good news is you'll meet with your doctor more frequently to check on the growth and development of your baby, so you'll have a better sense of when it might be "go" time. In the third trimester, you'll have a prenatal appointment every two weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, then you'll have a prenatal visit once a week during the last month until you deliver.

In some practices where multiple practitioners share the on-call pool, you may make your rounds to get to know everyone as your due date draws near. After all, there's a chance your doctor won't be available when you give birth.

Like your previous prenatal appointments, you can expect to get your blood pressure and weight checked. Some practices have you provide a urine sample to screen for protein, sugar, and infection. Your doctor will also evaluate the baby's heartbeat using a Doppler and measure the fundal height (the distance between your pubic bone and the top of your uterus). At this stage, the measurement should match the number of weeks you're pregnant. So, if you're 37 weeks, your fundal height should be around 37 centimeters.

If your baby is measuring too small or too big , your doctor may order a third trimester ultrasound to evaluate their growth and your amniotic fluid levels. And if you have a high-risk pregnancy , your doctor may also order a third trimester ultrasound to do a biophysical profile (BPP) test, where they'll examine your baby's movement and fluid level.

Your doctor may also order an ultrasound if they aren't sure about your baby's position from an abdominal exam. If it turns out your baby is breech, you may be offered an external cephalic version, which are maneuvers done to try to turn your baby into a vertex (head-down) position.

Past your due date ? Your doctor may check your cervix to see if it's softening, effacing (thinning out), and dilating (opening). The cervical exam may give an idea of what method of induction of labor to use if it's needed. (If you do have a pelvic exam late in pregnancy, you might have a little spotting afterward.) Generally, practitioners won't do cervical checks unless they feel it's necessary, so if you're not comfortable, you can decline them.

You were screened to check whether you're Rh-negative during your first trimester. If it turns out you are Rh-negative, you will be given an injection of Rh immune globulin (sometimes called RhIg or RhoGAM) to prevent your body from producing antibodies for the last part of your pregnancy.

And as always, your doctor will also discuss results from previous tests and follow up on issues that were brought up at your last prenatal appointment.

Some questions you can expect from your practitioner are:

  • How are you feeling?
  • Do you feel any unusual pain and aches?
  • Are you experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions , which are false labor pains?
  • Are you having contractions?
  • How often do you feel your baby move?
  • Do you have any sudden swelling?
  • How is your mood?
  • Are you getting enough sleep at night?
  • How is your diet?

Whether or not they ask, let your doctor know about any symptoms you're having, even if they seem like the usual fatigue, moodiness, or aches and pains.

Be sure to also let your doctor know if you notice your baby is less active than usual (they may ask you to count your baby's movements for a set period of time each day).

Inside pregnancy: Weeks 28 to 37

A 3D animated look at a baby in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Group B strep

Between 36 and 37 weeks, your practitioner will swab your vagina and rectum to check for a common infection called group B strep . If your test is positive, you'll be given antibiotics during labor to help keep you from passing it on to your baby.

(If you've had a group B strep urinary tract infection during this pregnancy, you won't need this test because even though the infection was treated, you'll automatically get antibiotics during labor. Likewise, you'll be automatically treated during labor if you've previously had a baby infected with group B strep.)

Gestational diabetes

If you were diagnosed with gestational diabetes , your doctor will continue to monitor your blood glucose levels and ensure that you're following a healthy diet and exercise routine. Your doctor may also order a third trimester ultrasound to check your baby's growth and development.

Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia (very high blood pressure) usually develops during the third trimester. Some of the signs of preeclampsia are sudden swelling in the face and hands and protein in the urine. Most of the time, patients with preeclampsia have no symptoms and it's incidentally diagnosed in the office with new onset high blood pressure. If you're past 37 weeks of pregnancy, then your doctor may want to deliver your baby. But if you're not at 37 weeks, your doctor will order an ultrasound and heart rate monitoring to check your baby's well-being. In severe cases, your doctor may want to admit you to the hospital and consider delivering your baby early.

Twins and multiples

Carrying twins, triplets, and higher-order multiples is considered a high-risk pregnancy. Because you're at risk for preterm birth , you may need more frequent prenatal appointments, sometimes weekly. You'll also need more tests, including an ultrasound and/or non-stress test, which tracks your babies' heart rate for a period of time. If you're experiencing symptoms of preterm labor, such as contractions, vaginal spotting, and abdominal cramps, be sure to alert your doctor.

Placenta previa

If you were found to have placenta previa, which is what happens when the placenta partially or totally covers the cervix, you'll have a third trimester ultrasound to check whether the previa has resolved. If it hasn't, you'll most likely have a C-section to deliver your baby safely. Some women with placenta previa experience heavy bleeding, and in this case, your doctor may recommend a C-section to deliver your baby earlier. You'll most likely be given corticosteroids to help your baby's lungs develop faster if your delivery is scheduled before 37 weeks.

Additional tests

Your blood may be checked again for anemia, particularly if you were anemic earlier in your pregnancy.

If you're at risk for sexually transmitted infections, you'll be tested again for syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV.

Vaccination

You should get the Tdap vaccine to help protect you and your baby from pertussis (whooping cough). Even if you've been vaccinated before, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend all pregnant women get a booster between 27 and 36 weeks.

If flu season is here or approaching, your practitioner should talk with you about the benefits of getting a flu shot if you haven't already had one. Your doctor will also talk to you about the COVID-19 vaccine , which helps protect you from the virus and lessens the severity of the illness if you become sick. Studies show that antibodies are also passed to the fetus.

Before your appointment, it's a good idea to write down any questions you may have for your doctor. This is also a great time to start thinking about your birth plan as well as what to expect postpartum. Here are some common questions you may want to ask:

  • Where can I take childbirth classes?
  • Where should I go if I'm in labor and ready to deliver?
  • What are signs of labor that I should look out for?
  • What happens if my water breaks or I go into labor in the middle of the night?
  • What's the difference between my water breaking and leaking fluid/having discharge?
  • How do Braxton-Hicks contractions feel, and how are they different from real labor contractions?
  • How should I time my contractions?
  • If my contractions are getting more intense and closer together, should I give you a call or head straight to the labor and delivery center?
  • Will you be there throughout my labor or at my delivery?
  • What exactly happens during delivery?
  • How long should I expect to stay at the hospital?
  • Does the hospital offer lactation support if I'm breastfeeding?
  • Will the hospital reach out to my baby's pediatrician to transfer records after giving birth?
  • When should I schedule a postpartum appointment?

Since you may not be in any shape to make important decisions right after delivery, now's the time to start talking about whether you want your baby boy circumcised, whether you plan to breastfeed, and what you'd like to do for contraception after you have your baby. (Of course, you can always change your mind between now and then.)

And if you haven't found a doctor for your baby, it's time to get started. Your practitioner can give you some names.

Finally, your practitioner may screen you for signs of depression during pregnancy. But don't wait to be asked. If you're feeling depressed or anxious, let your caregiver know. They can refer you to someone who can help.

They may also ask you about your support network at home after you've given birth and mention the signs of postpartum depression (PPD) . It's helpful to know how to distinguish normal " baby blues " brought on by fatigue and hormones from true postpartum depression. If you think you may be suffering from depression or anxiety, it's important to get help immediately.

Apology Letter To Patient

Writing an apology letter to a patient is quite common. Healthcare professionals are human and like the rest of us, spend most of their time at work, so it's only inevitably that mistakes of some kind will be made from time to time, and that the need to say sorry for them will arise.

stethoscope on a white towel

Whether the infraction was beyond your control or clearly your fault, apologizing to a patient shows that mistakes are made everywhere and that the healthcare industry is no exception.

Obviously, some infractions are more serious than others, especially when it comes to healthcare where certain errors can have serious consequences or even result in a fatality. So for any medical mistakes, getting legal advice prior to writing a letter or apologizing is imperitave and necessary , even though many States now support I'm Sorry Legislation which we discuss in our article on Medical Apologies .

Having said that, the guidance we provide below in our sample of a patient apology letter is for more common situations at a practice where mea culpas are warranted and make good business sense.

Use it as a framework for crafting your own letter in cases of a clerical mistake, a long wait, poor service, staff acting unprofessionally, and similar situations where a sincere and proper apology is an important step towards making things right.

The table below provides a sample apology directed at a patient, for such a situation, along with a series of notes to help you tailor your letter appropriately.

Apology Letter To A Patient

By including a breakdown of each element (through our notes) that should be included in an effective patient apology, it makes it much easier for you to modify it as appropriate.

Use the 'Notes' as a guide, while writing your own letter and replace the specifics with your own situation.

Key Takeaways For An Apology Letter To A Patient

The order of ingredients and statements is not important so write your letter in the manner that feels most comfortable for you. What is important however is that you include all of the ingredients (as appropriate) and that your patient understands that your practice sincerely regrets what happened, took responsibility, apologized, and finally promised that it won't happen again .

Consider your apology letter format and how it can play a role in how effective your letter can be.

And again, for any medical errors and mistakes always consult an attorney before admitting any wrongdoing or taking responsibility, and learn about the apology laws within the medical field and "I'm Sorry" legislation that may be available to you.

The Protesters and the President

Over the past week, thousands of students protesting the war in gaza have been arrested..

From “New York Times,” I’m Michael Barbaro. This is “The Daily.”

Free, free, Palestine!

Free, free Palestine!

Free, free, free Palestine!

Over the past week, what had begun as a smattering of pro-Palestinian protests on America’s college campuses exploded into a nationwide movement —

United, we’ll never be defeated!

— as students at dozens of universities held demonstrations, set up encampments, and at times seized academic buildings.

[PROTESTERS CLAMORING]:

response, administrators at many of those colleges decided to crack down —

Do not throw things at our officers. We will use chemical munitions that include gas.

— calling in local police to carry out mass detentions and arrests. From Arizona State —

In the name of the state of Arizona, I declare this gathering to be a violation of —

— to the University of Georgia —

— to City College of New York.

[PROTESTERS CHANTING, “BACK OFF”]:

As of Thursday, police had arrested 2,000 students on more than 40 campuses. A situation so startling that President Biden could no longer ignore it.

Look, it’s basically a matter of fairness. It’s a matter of what’s right. There’s the right to protest, but not the right to cause chaos.

Today, my colleagues Jonathan Wolfe and Peter Baker on a history-making week. It’s Friday, May 3.

Jonathan, as this tumultuous week on college campuses comes to an end, it feels like the most extraordinary scenes played out on the campus of the University of California Los Angeles, where you have been reporting. What is the story of how that protest started and ultimately became so explosive?

So late last week, pro-Palestinian protesters set up an encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles.

From the river to the sea!

Palestine will be free!

Palestine —

It was right in front of Royce Hall, which I don’t know if you are familiar with UCLA, but it’s a very famous, red brick building. It’s on all the brochures. And there was two things that stood out about this encampment. And the first thing was that they barricaded the encampment.

The encampment, complete with tents and barricades, has been set up in the middle of the Westwood campus. The protesters demand —

They have metal grates. They had wooden pallets. And they separated themselves from the campus.

This is kind of interesting. There are controlling access, as we’ve been talking about. They are trying to control who is allowed in, who is allowed out.

They sort of policed the area. So they only would let people that were part of their community, they said, inside.

I’m a UCLA student. I deserve to go here. We paid tuition. This is our school. And they’re not letting me walk in. Why can’t I go? Will you let me go in?

We’re not engaging with that.

Then you can move. Will you move?

And the second thing that stood out about this camp was that it immediately attracted pro-Israel counterprotesters.

And what did the leadership of UCLA say about all of this, the encampment and these counterprotesters?

So the University of California’s approach was pretty unique. They had a really hands-off approach. And they allowed the pro-Palestinian protesters to set up an encampment. They allowed the counterprotesters to happen. I mean, this is a public university, so anyone who wants to can just enter the campus.

So when do things start to escalate?

So there were definitely fights and scuffles through the weekend. But a turning point was really Sunday —

[SINGING IN HEBREW]:

— when this group called the Israeli American Council, they’re a nonprofit organization, organized a rally on campus. The Israeli American Council has really been against these pro-Palestinian protests. They say that they’re antisemitic. So this nonprofit group sets up a stage with a screen really just a few yards from the pro-Palestinian encampment.

We are grateful that this past Friday, the University of California, stated that they will continue to oppose any calls for boycott and divestment from Israel!

[PROTESTERS CHEERING]

And they host speakers and they held prayers.

Jewish students, you’re not alone! Oh, you’re not alone! We are right here with you! And we’re right here with you in until —

[WORDLESS SINGING]:

And then lots of other people start showing up. And the proximity between protesters and counterprotesters and even some agitators, makes it really clear that something was about to happen.

And what was that? What ended up happening?

On Monday night, a group of about 60 counterprotesters tried to breach the encampment there. And the campus police had to break it up. And things escalated again on Tuesday.

They stormed the barricades and it’s a complete riot.

[PROTESTER SHOUTING]:

Put it down! Put it down! Put it down!

I went to report on what happened just a few hours after it ended.

And I spoke to a lot of protesters. And I met one demonstrator, Marie.

Yeah, my first name is Marie. M-A-R-I-E. Last name, Salem.

And Marie described what happened.

So can you just tell me a little bit about what happened last night?

Last night, we were approached by over a hundred counterprotesters who were very mobilized and ready to break into camp. They proceeded to try to breach our barricades extremely violently.

Marie said it started getting out of hand when counterprotesters started setting off fireworks towards the camp.

They had bear spray. They had Mace. They were throwing wood and spears. Throwing water bottles, continuing fireworks.

So she said that they were terrified. It was just all hands on deck. Everyone was guarding the barricades.

Every time someone experienced the bear spray or Mace or was hit and bleeding, we had some medics in the front line. And then we had people —

And they said that they were just trying to take care of people who were injured.

I mean, at any given moment, there was 5 to 10 people being treated.

So what she described to me sounded more like a battlefield than a college campus.

And it was just a complete terror and complete abandonment of the university, as we also watched private security watch this the entire time on the stairs. And some LAPD were stationed about a football field length back from these counterprotesters, and did not make a single arrest, did not attempt to stop any violence, did not attempt to get in between the two groups. No attempt.

I should say, I spoke to a state authorities and eyewitnesses and they confirmed Marie’s account about what happened that night, both in terms of the violence that took place at the encampment and how law enforcement responded. So in the end, people ended up fighting for hours before the police intervened.

[SOMBER MUSIC]

So in her mind, UCLA’s hands-off approach, which seemed to have prevailed throughout this entire period, ends up being way too hands off in a moment when students were in jeopardy.

That’s right. And so at this point, the protesters in the encampment started preparing for two possibilities. One was that this group of counterprotesters would return and attack them. And the second one was that the police would come and try to break up this encampment.

So they started building up the barricades. They start reinforcing them with wood. And during the day, hundreds of people came and brought them supplies. They brought food.

They brought helmets, goggles, earplugs, saline solution, all sorts of things these people could use to defend themselves. And so they’re really getting ready to burrow in. And in the end, it was the police who came.

[PROTESTERS SHOUTING]:

So Wednesday at 7:00 PM, they made an announcement on top of Royce Hall, which overlooks the encampment —

— administrative criminal actions up to and including arrest. Please leave the area immediately.

And they told people in the encampment that they needed to leave or face arrest.

[DRUM BEATING]: [PROTESTERS CHANTING]

And so as night falls, they put on all this gear that they’ve been collecting, the goggles, the masks and the earplugs, and they wait for the police.

[DRUM BEATING]:

And so the police arrive and station themselves right in front of the encampment. And then at a certain point, they storm the back stairs of the encampment.

[PROTESTERS CHANTING]:

And this is the stairs that the protesters have been using to enter and exit the camp. And they set up a line. And the protesters do this really surprising thing.

The people united!

They open up umbrellas. They have these strobe lights. And they’re flashing them at the police, who just slowly back out of the camp.

[PROTESTERS CHEERING]:

And so at this point, they’re feeling really great. They’re like, we did it. We pushed them out of their camp. And when the cops try to push again on those same set of stairs —

[PROTESTER SHOUTS]:

Hold your ground!

— the protesters organized themselves with all these shields that they had built earlier. And they go and confront them. And so there’s this moment where the police are trying to push up the stairs. And the protesters are literally pushing them back.

Push them back! Push them back!

Push them back!

And at a certain point, dozens of the police officers who were there, basically just turn around and leave.

So how does this eventually come to an end?

So at a certain point, the police push in again. Most of the conflict is centered at the front of these barricades. And the police just start tearing them apart.

[METAL CLANGING]

[CLAMORING]

They removed the front barricade. And in its place is this group of protesters who have linked arms and they’re hanging on to each other. And the police are trying to pull protesters one by one away from this group.

He’s just a student! Back off!

But they’re having a really hard time because there’s so many protesters. And they’re all just hanging on to each other.

We’re moving back now.

So at a certain point, one of the police officers started firing something into the crowd. We don’t exactly know what it was. But it really spooked the protesters.

Stop shooting at kids! Fuck you! Fuck them!

They started falling back. Everyone was really scared. The protesters were yelling, don’t shoot us. And at that point, the police just stormed the camp.

Get back. Get back.

Back up now!

And so after about four hours of this, the police pushed the protesters out of the encampment. They had arrested about 200 protesters. And this was finally over.

And I’m just curious, Jonathan, because you’re standing right there, you are bearing witness to this all, what you were thinking, what your impressions of this were.

I mean, I was stunned. These are mostly teenagers. This is a college campus, an institution of higher learning. And what I saw in front of me looked like a war zone.

[TENSE MUSIC]

The massive barricade, the police coming in with riot gear, and all this violence was happening in front of these red brick buildings that are famous for symbolizing a really open college campus. And everything about it was just totally surreal.

Well, Jonathan, thank you very much. We appreciate it.

Thanks, Michael.

We’ll be right back.

Peter, around 10:00 AM on Thursday morning as the smoke is literally still clearing at the University of California Los Angeles, you get word that President Biden is going to speak.

Right, exactly. It wasn’t on his public schedule. He was about to head to Andrews Air Force base in order to take a trip. And then suddenly, we got the notice that he was going to be addressing the cameras in the Roosevelt Room.

They didn’t tell us what he was going to talk about. But it was pretty clear, I think. Everybody understood that it was going to be about these campus protests, about the growing violence and the clashes with police, and the arrests that the entire country had been watching on TV every night for the past week, and I think that we were watching just that morning with UCLA. And it reached the point where he just had to say something.

And why, in his estimation and those of his advisors, was this the moment that Biden had to say something?

Well, it kind of reached a boiling point. It kind of reached the impression of a national crisis. And you expect to hear your president address it in this kind of a moment, particularly because it’s about his own policy. His policy toward Israel is at the heart of these protests. And he was getting a lot of grief. He was getting a lot of grief from Republicans who were chiding him for not speaking out personally. He hadn’t said anything in about 10 days.

He’s getting a lot of pressure from Democrats, too, who wanted him to come out and be more forceful. It wasn’t enough, in their view, to leave it to his spokespeople to say something. Moderate Democrats felt he needed to come out and take some leadership on this.

And so at the appointed moment, Peter, what does Biden actually say in the Roosevelt Room of the White House?

Good morning.

Before I head to North Carolina, I wanted to speak for a few moments about what’s going on, on our college campuses here.

Well, it comes in the Roosevelt Room and he talks to the camera. And he talks about the two clashing imperatives of American principle.

The first is the right to free speech and for people to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard. The second is the rule of law. Both must be upheld.

One is freedom of speech. The other is the rule of law.

In fact, peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues. But, but, neither are we a lawless country.

In other words, what he’s saying is, yes, I support the right of these protesters to come out and object to even my own policy, in effect, is what he’s saying. But it shouldn’t trail into violence.

Destroying property is not a peaceful protest. It’s against the law. Vandalism, trespassing, breaking windows, shutting down campuses —

It shouldn’t trail into taking over buildings and obstructing students from going to class or canceling their graduations.

Threatening people, intimidating people, instilling fear in people is not peaceful protest. It’s against the law.

And he leans very heavily into this idea that what he’s seeing these days goes beyond the line.

I understand people have strong feelings and deep convictions. In America, we respect the right and protect the right for them to express that. But it doesn’t mean anything goes.

It has crossed into harassment and expressions of hate in a way that goes against the national character.

As president, I will always defend free speech. And I will always be just as strong and standing up for the rule of law. That’s my responsibility to you, the American people, and my obligation to the Constitution. Thank you very much.

Right, as I watched the speech, I heard his overriding message to basically be, I, the president of the United States, am drawing a line. These protests and counterprotests, the seizing and defacing of campus buildings, class disruption, all of it, name calling, it’s getting out of hand. That there’s a right way to do this. And what I’m seeing is the wrong way to do it and it has to stop.

That’s exactly right. And as he’s wrapping up, reporters, of course, ask questions. And the first question is —

Mr. President, have the protests forced you to reconsider any of the policies with regard to the region?

— will this change your policy toward the war in Gaza? Which, of course, is exactly what the protesters want. That’s the point.

And he basically says —

— no. Just one word, no.

Right. And that felt kind of important, as brief and fleeting as it was, because at the end of the day, what he’s saying to these protesters is, I’m not going to do what you want. And basically, your protests are never going to work. I’m not going to change the US’s involvement in this war.

Yeah, that’s exactly right. He is saying, I’m not going to be swayed by angry people in the streets. I’m going to do what I think is right when it comes to foreign policy. Now, what he thinks is that they’re not giving him enough credit for trying to achieve what they want, which is an end of the war.

He has been pressuring Israel and Hamas to come to a deal for a ceasefire that will, hopefully, in his view, would then lead to a more enduring end of hostilities. But, of course, this deal hasn’t gone anywhere. Hamas, in particular, seems to be resisting it. And so the president is left with a policy of arming Israel without having found a way yet to stop the war.

Right. I wonder, though, Peter, if we’re being honest, don’t these protests, despite what Biden is saying there, inevitably exert a kind of power over him? Becoming one of many pressures, but a pressure nonetheless that does influence how he thinks about these moments. I mean, here he is at the White House devoting an entire conversation to the nation to these campus protests.

Well, look, he knows this feeds into the political environment in which he’s running for re-election, in which he basically has people who otherwise might be his supporters on the left disenchanted with him. And he knows that there’s a cost to be paid. And that certainly, obviously, is in his head as he’s thinking about what to do.

But I think his view of the war is changing by the day for all sorts of reasons. And most of them having to do with realities on the ground. He has decided that Israel has gone far enough, if not too far, in the way it has conducted this operation in Gaza.

He is upset about the humanitarian crisis there. And he’s looking for a way to wrap all this up into a move that would move to peacemaking, beginning to get the region to a different stage, maybe have a deal with the Saudis to normalize relations with Israel in exchange for some sort of a two-state solution that would eventually resolve the Palestinian issue at its core.

So I think it’s probably fair to say that the protests won’t move him in an immediate kind of sense. But they obviously play into the larger zeitgeist of the moment. And I also think it’s important to know who Joe Biden is at heart.

Explain that.

He’s not drawn to activism. He was around in 1968, the last time we saw this major conflagration at Columbia University, for instance. At the time, Joe Biden was a law student in Syracuse, about 250 miles away. And he was an institutionalist even then.

He was just focused on his studies. He was about to graduate. He was thinking about the law career. And he didn’t really have much of an affinity, I think, for his fellow students of that era, for their activist way of looking at things.

He tells a story in his memoir about walking down a street in Syracuse one day to go to the pizza shop with some friends. And they walk by the administration building. And they see people hanging out of the windows. They’re hanging SDS banners. That’s the Students for a Democratic Society, which was one of the big activist groups of the era.

And he says, they were taking over the building. And we looked up and said, look at those assholes. That’s how far apart from the antiwar movement I was. That’s him writing in his memoir.

So to a young Joe Biden, those who devote their time and their energy to protesting the war are, I don’t need to repeat the word twice, but they’re losers. They’re not worth his time.

Well, I think it’s the tactics they’re using more than the goals that he disagreed with. He would tell you he disagreed with the Vietnam War. He was for civil rights. But he thought that taking over a building was performative, was all about getting attention, and that there was a better way, in his view, to do it.

He was somebody who wanted to work inside the system. He said in an interview quite a few years back, he says, look, I was wearing sports coats in that era. He saw himself becoming part of the system, not somebody trying to tear it down.

And so how should we think about that Joe Biden, when we think about this Joe Biden? I mean, the Joe Biden who, as a young man, looked upon antiwar protesters with disdain and the one who is now president and his very own policies have inspired such ferocious campus protests?

Yeah, that Joe Biden, the 1968 Joe Biden, he could just throw on a sports coat, go to the pizza shop with his friends, make fun of the activists and call them names, and then that’s it. They didn’t have to affect his life. But that’s not what 2024 Joe Biden can do.

Now, wherever he goes, he’s dogged by this. He goes to speeches and people are shouting at him, Genocide Joe! Genocide Joe! He is the target of the same kind of a movement that he disdained in 1968. And so as much as he would like to ignore it or move on or focus on other things, I think this has become a defining image of his year and one of the defining images, perhaps, of his presidency. And 2024 Joe Biden can’t simply ignore it.

Well, Peter, thank you very much. We appreciate it.

During testimony on Thursday in Donald Trump’s hush money trial, jurors heard a recording secretly made by Trump’s former fixer, Michael Cohen, in which Trump discusses a deal to buy a woman’s silence. In the recording, Trump asks Cohen about how one payment made by Trump to a woman named Karen McDougal would be financed. The recording could complicate efforts by Trump’s lawyers to distance him from the hush money deals at the center of the trial.

A final thing to know, tomorrow morning, we’ll be sending you the latest episode from our colleagues over at “The Interview.” This week, David Marchese talks with comedy star Marlon Wayans about his new stand-up special.

It’s a high that you get when you don’t know if this joke that I’m about to say is going to offend everybody. Are they going to walk out? Are they going to boo me? Are they going to hate this. And then you tell it, and everybody cracks up and you’re like, woo.

Today’s episode was produced by Diana Nguyen, Luke Vander Ploeg, Alexandra Leigh Young, Nina Feldman, and Carlos Prieto. It was edited by Lisa Chow and Michael Benoist. It contains original music by Dan Powell and Marion Lozano, and was engineered by Chris Wood. Our theme music is by Jim Brunberg and Ben Landsverk of Wonderly.

That’s it for “The Daily.” I’m Michael Barbaro. See you on Monday.

Over the past week, students at dozens of universities held demonstrations, set up encampments and, at times, seized academic buildings. In response, administrators at many of those colleges decided to crack down and called in the local police to detain and arrest demonstrators.

As of Thursday, the police had arrested 2,000 people across more than 40 campuses, a situation so startling that President Biden could no longer ignore it.

Jonathan Wolfe, who has been covering the student protests for The Times, and Peter Baker, the chief White House correspondent, discuss the history-making week.

TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP, MI — MBS International Airport Manager James Canders said early estimates indicate about 6,500 people attended the Wednesday, May 1, political rally for Donald Trump.

The attendance volume and logistics involved in receiving a presidential candidate made for a “hectic” experience for airport staff and organizers, but the rally began and ended without any major issues, Canders said.

3 bodies found in Mexico during search for missing American, Australians

The bodies, which were not publicly identified, were in the same area where Carter Rhoad and Australians Jake and Callum Robinson were reported missing.

during your last visit

Three bodies were found in Baja California, Mexico, during a search for three missing men, including one American, the state’s top prosecutor’s office announced Friday.

The statement from the office of the attorney general of Baja California did not say whether the three bodies had been identified as those of the missing men, but it added: “This was done as part of the search for two Australians and one American reported missing.”

The office said on its website that an arrest warrant had been issued for the crime of forced disappearance and that three people were being investigated.

Carter Rhoad of San Diego and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, identified by local outlets, had not been heard from since April 27 while on a surfing vacation. Debra Robinson, Jake and Callum’s mother, posted in a Facebook group Wednesday asking whether anyone had seen her sons, noting that she hadn’t heard from them since April 27. She said they had not showed up to an Airbnb reservation.

“Callum is a type one diabetic so there is also a medical concern,” she wrote with a picture that said, “this is a very dire situation.”

She and the men’s father planned to come to North America, Australian outlet 7 News reported Friday.

“Surfing is a passion they both share,” the parents told 7 News in a statement. “Our only comfort right now is that they were together doing something they passionately love.”

Authorities had found the truck the men had been driving, their tents and one of their cellphones. The truck had been burned.

The FBI, which is assisting with the investigation, said in an unsigned statement that the bodies were found in Santo Tomás, a town about a two-hour drive from the U.S.-Mexico border. Photos from the scene show rescuers working in a waterhole on cliffs near the water as Mexican marines and national guard members stand by.

The FBI said it was in contact with the family of the U.S. citizen, though it did not name Rhoad.

“We are steadfast with our international law enforcement partners in finding answers,” the FBI’s San Diego field office said in the statement Friday.

An unsigned email from the State Department said American authorities were “aware of those reports” and are monitoring the situation but had no further comment. The State Department’s website urges Americans to reconsider travel to Baja California state because of crime and kidnapping; the Australian government advises travelers to “exercise a high degree of caution” because of violence in Mexico.

Last year, four Americans were kidnapped in northern Mexico outside Brownsville, Tex., in a case that sharpened the U.S. focus on insecurity across the border, where armed groups operate just across the Rio Grande. Two were found dead , while two survived and later recounted the violent kidnapping.

At the time, The Washington Post reported that 550 more Americans were missing in Mexico, underscoring a crisis of violence and government dysfunction that had left at least 112,150 people missing as of March 2023.

A visit from ‘Papa Yaz’ and a home run makes for a memorable day for Giants OF Mike Yastrzemski

BOSTON (AP) — A visit from “Papa Yaz” before the game and a home run during it made for a memorable afternoon for Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski.

The grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski hit a solo homer to right field — not far from where the former Boston outfielder’s retired No. 8 is hanging from the façade — to help San Francisco beat the Red Sox 3-1 on Thursday.

“I’m looking around, and I have my greatest childhood memories here,” said Mike Yastrzemski, who also homered five years ago in his only other visit to the ballpark where his grandfather played 23 seasons.

“The first one was like, super crazy, where I actually couldn’t believe that happened,” he said. “It was a little bit more normal this week, and I actually got to enjoy it while I was here rather than reflecting on it and being like, ‘Man, that was really cool.’”

Yastrzemski, 33, has three home runs this season and 90 in his six-year career, all with the Giants. This one cleared the short wall in front of the Red Sox bullpen in the third inning of a scoreless, hitless game to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.

Giants manager Bob Melvin thanked “the baseball gods.”

“Got a smile out of me,” said the former major league catcher, who spent one of his 10 major league seasons in Boston and was not quite six when Carl Yastrzemski won the AL Triple Crown and led the “Impossible Dream” Red Sox to the pennant in 1967. “I was just awestruck. So I didn’t have a ton to say to him. … There are some cool days in baseball, and I’ve had a lot of them. This was one of them.”

Mike Yastrzemski says he sees his grandfather a couple of times a year. He will sometimes ask the three-time batting champion and ’67 AL MVP for hitting advice, but the man he calls “Papa Yaz” will more often talk about family.

“One of the things that he’s done incredibly well as a grandfather is letting me have my career,” Mike said. “He’ll pick up the phone when I call, and if I ask him questions, he’ll answer. But he’s never forcing anything on me. He’s never suggesting anything. He’s always told me, ‘When in doubt, talk to your hitting coaches.’”

On Thursday, Mike said, they didn’t talk about hitting at all. The elder Yaz asked how he was physically, and it was “just good to see him,” Mike said.

“It was fun to just have him around for a minute,” he said.

And then the 84-year-old Hall of Famer split, without sticking around for the game.

“I think he left the car running when he was in here,” Mike said with a smile. “But that’s normal. He’s quick to the point.”
