Will The Eras Tour Come To Australia?

Yes! At 2am on the 21 st June, along with other regions worldwide, Taylor Swift finally announced that she will be bringing her Eras tour to Australia with dates slated for Sydney and Melbourne. On the 29th June, following high demand at presale, two more dates were announced as follows:

  • Melbourne MCG: Friday, 16 February 2024
  • Melbourne MCG: Saturday, 17 February 2024
  • NEW SHOW! Melbourne MCG: Sunday, 18 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Friday, 23 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Saturday, 24 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Sunday 25 February 2024
  • NEW SHOW! Sydney Accor Arena: Monday, 26 February 2024

Aussie Swifties have been waiting for this announcement ever since the Grammy award winning artist first announced the US tour dates. Adding fuel to the rumours, notorious Instagram gossip page DeuxMoi did hint that Australian fans could be in luck, sharing an anonymous tip that read:

“Dates have been booked for Taylor at the MCG in Melbourne, Aus. So, she’s definitely coming to Australia!”

What Other Countries Will Taylor Visit?

Initially, the Eras tour was slated for US locations only .

When Taylor announced the tour back in November 2022, she wrote, “I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!).

“The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can!”

Fast forward to May 2023 and the first round of international dates were (finally) announced.

On May 2, 2023, Taylor shared the news that she would bring Eras to Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.

To top it off, she also announced that none other than Sabrina Carpenter would be the support act for the Latin American shows. Does it get much better than that?

Are Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide Getting Eras Tour Dates?

Taylor Swift has announced shows for Sydney and Melbourne only. Luckily, there are multiple dates in big stadiums, so if you live outside of those cities, now is the time to start saving for a trip to Sydney or Melbourne!

Will Any More Dates Be Announced For Australia?

Yes! Following presale, Taylor Swift announced two more dates for the Eras Tour, one in Sydney (Monday 26 Feb 2024) and in Melbourne (Sunday 18 Feb 2024).

Who Is The Support Act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Australia?

Supporting Taylor for her Australian dates is none other than Sabrina Carpenter. The American singer has recently wrapped her own headline US tour, Emails I Can’t Send Tour and was recently announced as the support act for Taylor’s Latin America tour dates. Profile picture of Elle

Taylor Swift has finally announced more dates for the Australian leg of her Eras Tour in February 2024. We’ve been making our friendship bracelets and waiting to scream “Let’s go, b*tch” for longer than we’d like to admit. Now, it looks like we finally have our full dates.

Let us not forget that fans have enjoyed four new albums since she last toured in 2018 ( Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights ), along with her re-records, so it’s about time that ‘Blondie’ made her way back Down Under.

After announcing her US leg in November 2022, and Latin American leg on May 2 2023, we are more than excited to see that Australia is confirmed to also get to view the majesty of this three-and-a-half hour concert.

Taylor Swift announced the Aussie concerts writing, “EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️ I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

Who Is The Support Act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Australia?

era tour taylor swift australia

Good news for Taylor Swift fans, the support act will be none other than American singer Sabrina Carpenter. Known for her hit album Emails I Can’t Send , the singer is also the main support act for Swift’s Latin American tour.

Fans of Taylor will likely enjoy Carpenter’s songs if they don’t already, with the singer well-known for her honest lyricism and can’t-help-but-tap-your-feet rhythms.

TAYLOR SWIFT WILL BE HEADING TO MEXICO AND SOUTH AMERICA FIRST

On May 2, Swift announced that the first round of international dates would bring the Eras Tour to Latin America.

“Really thrilled to tell you this!! Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year! Sweet angel princess Sabrina Carpenter will be joining us on all of the shows!” she wrote on Instagram.

It’s a sweet gesture that Swift is prioritising Latin America in her Eras Tour, given she has only toured North America, Europe, Australia and Asia in her previous tours.

Where Else Is Taylor Swift Playing Internationally?

Taylor Swift will finish out 2023 in Latin America before moving to Japan in 2024 to start the new Asia/Oceania leg of her tour, which includes Japan, Australia and Singapore, before she darts to Europe.

Her European leg is slightly more extensive, starting in Paris, then Sweden, Lisbon, Madrid, Lyon, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirken, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw, Vienna with two more shows in London to finish.

Taylor Swift Has Dropped Additional Dates for the Australian Eras Tour

Image of Kailah Haddad

It was literally “The Great War” after an estimated four million people queued online for Taylor Swift Eras tour Australia tickets on Wednesday. Now, due to popular demand, two more Australian concert dates have been added.

Many fans (including us) were left devastated after presale tickets to the three Sydney and two Melbourne concert dates sold out. Swifties had to battle it out with an estimated four million users, who joined the online queue for under half a million tickets.

Her Aussie leg of the tour kicks off at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 February 2024. She will then travel to Sydney for three shows at Accor Stadium Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February.

Thankfully, there’s still hope to snag some tickets ! Frontier Touring has now announced two extra shows, at Sydney’s Accord Stadium on 26 February and Melbourne’s MCG on 18 February.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Frontier Touring (@frontiertouring)

Sabrina Carpenter will tour with Swift as a special guest in all Australian shows, which are presented   by Crown and Frontier Touring.

When Do Taylor Swift Tickets Go On Sale?

General ticket sales for all Aussie dates will go live on Ticketek Friday 30 June, 10.00am local time for Sydney. The Melbourne shows will go on sale at 2.00pm local time.

How Much Are Taylor Swift Tickets?

Package prices range from $1,249.90 to $349.90. General tickets start at $79.90 but will set fans back $379.90 for a spot in A Reserve.

Taylor Swift ‘s Eras Tour officially kicked off in the US on Friday, March 17, marking the 32-year-old’s sixth headlining concert tour. Swift didn’t tour for her studio albums “Lover”, “Folklore”, and “Evermore” due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, she’s embarking on the Eras Tour in support of all of her albums, including her latest, “Midnights”.

@nicoooleypinto It was nice to meet you!!! 😭😭😭 I LOVE YOUU @Taylor Swift ❤️❤️❤️ #taylorswift #theerastour #erastourmetlife #tserastour #eastrutherfordnj #taylornation #metlifestadium ♬ original sound – Nicole 🌹

From what we’ve seen online, she is going all out for her fans. We’re talking an incredible 44-song setlist, double the number of songs she’s ever performed. That gives us Swifties three (yes, THREE!) hours to be enchanted by our Queen. Fun fact: It’s the length of the movie “Titanic”. And before you ask, we do, in fact, get the 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’. Screaming, crying.

Last year, the 32-year-old announced her long-awaiting tour.

“I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!),” she captioned. “The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the U.S., with international dates to be announced as soon as we can!”

It’s Taylor Swift’s Era and We’re All Just Living In It [Live Review]

What went down when taylor swift brought her record-breaking eras tour to australia..

I am standing on the corner of Olympic Boulevard, Richmond, walking towards the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Taylor Swift is due to perform on the opening night of the Australian leg of her Eras Tour.

A girl in a fuchsia Western outfit stands to my left as we wait for the lights to change.

“Heading to Taylor?” I ask. Although, the answer seems obvious.

“No,” she replies. “I couldn’t get tickets. But I’m going to stand outside the stadium anyway.” Australia shattered records when more than four million people tried to get tickets to the Eras tour. Such is the gravitational pull of Taylor Swift, arguably the world’s biggest pop star in 2024. As has become commonplace at Swift’s shows, the legions of fans who missed out on tickets will ‘Taylor-gate’ outside the stadium, finding a way to participate in this mass cultural moment on their own terms.

It’s an astounding concept to hold, considering this is Swift’s largest show of her entire career. 96,000 spectators have flooded the biggest stadium in Australia for an opportunity to witness pop superstardom.

And still, the fervour of her fanbase spills out onto the parklands surrounding the ‘G. It lends the event a dizzying, carnival-like atmosphere as groups of fans — all dressed as their favourite Swift avatar — flutter around the grounds trading handmade friendship bracelets with each other inscribed with their favourite Swift songs.

Outside the stadium, I meet my thirteen-year-old cousin. She is a Taylor Swift megafan, or ‘Swiftie’ as the most ardent members of her fandom are known. There’s less than an hour til showtime and she is overjoyed.

Among Swift’s many gifts as a songwriter, her greatest may be the ability to translate the experiences of young adulthood – particularly those that illustrate the female experience and girlhood – into some kind of universal songbook.

Her music acts as a map for listeners to overlay their own journeys of heartbreak, triumph, breakup and transcendence. To put it simply: “I like her because she’s relatable,” says my cousin. “She makes me feel everything.” We’re given light-up LED bracelets upon entry and link arms to navigate the percolating crowd as we venture inside to find our seats.

After months of anticipation, the first night of Taylor Swift’s Australian run is about to begin. The crowd is a sea of glittering cowboy boots, Travis Kelce jerseys, ball gowns, sequinned bodysuits, cottagecore cloaks, and oceanic pastels. The electricity is reaching a fever pitch.

The premise for the Eras tour stands alone in the current pop landscape

Each show comprises a monolithic three-hour set, in which Swift performs hits, deep cuts, acoustic renditions, and fan-favourite ‘surprise songs’ spanning 18 years of her career. What sets it apart from a mere retrospective, however, is how she transforms these eras into a self-contained universe — each complete with its own lore, characters, aesthetic, and narratives. This world-building creates a deepened connection with her fans who aim to unearth hidden secrets with each listen.

era tour taylor swift australia

To witness the Eras tour live represents the closing of a feedback loop. The moment she appears on stage, swathed in billowing orange and lilac tapestry, the realisation sets in. Fans have the opportunity not just to listen to her music and follow along with the pop culture narrative that unfolds in her wake, but to strive for a moment of connection with her — and in the process, form deeper bonds with each other.

It speaks to the magic of Swift’s fandom, which when unshackled from the online sphere takes the shape of a genuine community. My cousin is beaming; a fellow Swiftie is offering her a Taylor Swift trading card. She astutely offers up a homemade rainbow charm in return.

And so it unfolds.

A career-spanning set that is nothing short of polished perfection

Swift is nothing if not professional, performing to the biggest crowd of her life with the utmost ease. She points to a corner of the stadium and the audience erupts in a roar. The control and connection she exerts over the masses is spellbinding.

era tour taylor swift australia

As Melbourne’s sky turns dusk-violet, it’s fitting that Swift begins with songs from her Lover era.

‘Cruel Summer’ bounces with a lightweight bliss, while a gregarious rendition of ‘The Man’ is granted additional weight through Swift’s offstage business acumen. After a much-publicised battle with music industry tycoon Scooter Braun over her masters, Swift famously wrestled back control of her artistic vision by choosing to re-record her first six studio albums.

In the process, she effectively regained complete control over her music. It also bears stating that Swift’s Eras Tour is the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, cementing her place in music industry history.

era tour taylor swift australia

As such a consummate performer, the challenge with a Taylor Swift show can be finding the moments that seemingly veer off-script. As she surveyed the crowd and brought the Lover era to a close, she allowed herself to bask in the moment. A single tear rolled down her face. Yes, it was an impossibly perfect pop star tear — the kind that only seems to appear on film sets. But it was authentic nonetheless. Arguably, these small human moments that puncture an otherwise maximalist show are the most compelling. Much of Swift’s back catalogue is undoubtedly rooted in millennial nostalgia. If you were 14 years old when ‘Love Story’ came out, you’re now entering your 30s. Perhaps more so than any genre, pop music can fuse with our memories — so much so that it can feel like a soundtrack to a former life. Performing cuts from her Fearless era, Swift created a time-space warp that swallowed fans into portals of heady youth.

While the music was unlocking core memories for the masses, it also presented a chance to create new ones. It was as if fans of the Fearless era were singing along with their inner teenagers, unifying their former selves with who they are today. Such is the power of pop.

era tour taylor swift australia

The same could be said of renditions from the Red era, most of which hold up as well-crafted tunes — outside of the odd dubstep drop that rears its head. Of course, it wouldn’t be true teenage n ostalgia if it wasn’t metered with a healthy dose of cringe.

The era is rounded out with a 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’, which incites the collective shout of ‘fuck the patriarchy’ from the crowd as the song reaches its lyrical climax. I look towards my cousin, who is thoroughly locked in. Before I can think any further about Taylor Swift acting as her gateway to punk music, we’re covered in artificial snow that falls from the rooftop of the ‘G.

era tour taylor swift australia

It’s rare for an international artist to tour with the entirety of their production rig, making the fact that history’s highest-grossing tour may also be one of the most comprehensive in recent memory. The stagecraft is faultless and all-encompassing — both through attention to detail and sweeping setpieces. For the evermore era, ‘champagne problems’ is the highlight — underscoring the song’s narrative with heated contemporary dance.

As for folklore , an album Swift created during the global pandemic, the era comes to life with its complete cottage installation, translating the moody forest nymph vibe to the stage with total immersion.

Recently, an influx of international artists have cancelled their Australian tours, citing impossibly high production costs to make them viable. In this context, it’s refreshing to see Swift reward fans — some of whom have paid thousands of dollars in tickets and interstate travel to see their idol live — with a show that chooses fan service over cutting corners. Songs from this era may be some of her strongest. Despite its isolated writing methodology and hushed tones, the record holds up well within a stadium environment.

era tour taylor swift australia

Swift has long been in the public eye. At this point, her connection to pop culture discourse is inseparable from her artistry. The Reputation era represents Swift’s response to this — with the record presenting her first major attempt to reclaim her public identity through a new musical persona.

In a live setting, songs from this record seem to illicit a similar catharsis from audience members, several of which scream-sing the entire run of songs ( …Ready for It?, Delicate, Don’t Blame Me and Look What You Made Me Do) to the point of exhaustion. If half of Melbourne’s population has lost its voice by Monday, I can hazard a guess at the reason why.

The accompanying visuals to this era coat the MCG like an oil slick before reaching the point of immolation. The tracks come to life with subtle reinventions that offer up a brooding hard rock edge.

era tour taylor swift australia

Taking centre stage behind a simple upright piano adorned with hand-painted flowers, the highlight of the night unfurls. As is tradition, Swift performs her ‘surprise songs’ — a simple, stripped-back, acoustic moment that gives each audience of the tour something just for them.

Performing ‘You’re Losing Me’ for the first time, she pulls off an incredible magic trick by conjuring a feeling of intimacy within an impossibly large crowd. Put simply, it’s as close as you’ll come to hearing the version of Taylor Swift that exists behind the carefully curated eras.

For a few minutes, the audience is offered a glimpse at the Taylor who sits behind her piano at home, puts pen to paper, and begins to write.

era tour taylor swift australia

The closing act arrives as a victory lap of sorts

The stage is lit with washes of purple as Swift emerges in a faux-fur coat to set the scene with the slinky pop-funk of ‘ Lavender Haze ’. ‘Anti Hero’ is on-brand as ever, while ‘Vigilante Shit’ offers a nod to the burlesque choreography of Chicago . Finally, ‘Karma’ closes the night out — giving way to an endorphin rush of fireworks, laser beams and confetti rain. For a moment, time is frozen as 96,000 people allow themselves to be swept away in a wave of joy. This is the power of pop music. This is the power of Taylor Swift. Say what you will, but one universal truth remains. It’s Taylor’s era. We’re all just living in it.

Taylor Swift in Sydney: Eras Tour tickets, times, set list & everything you need to know

Your ultimate guide to Taylor Swift shows in Sydney

Taylor Swift is in Sydney. She arrived during Monday's huge thunder storm that caused havoc around Sydney – and ever since, she's been causing a Taylor storm, stepping out at restaurants and the zoo – and yesterday, just a day before her first Sydney show, she's released MORE additional tickets .

It looks like those of us who have tickets are in for a real treat when she hits the stage at  Accor Stadium  in  Sydney Olympic Park  for four nights this week, from Friday, February 23 to Monday, February 26.  Time Out Melbourne Editor Leah Glynn was at one of her Melbourne shows, and says, "Believe the hype, folks. Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is everything you are hoping it to be: magical, emotional, spectacular, transformative. It's three-and-a-half hours of pure musical joy, best enjoyed with 96,000 of your closest friends (the stadium atmosphere at the MCG was unlike anything I've ever experienced before). I laughed, I cried, I sang and danced my little heart out – and I'd do it all again if anyone has a spare ticket. All hail, Queen Taylor."

If you were lucky enough to nab a ticket, here's everything you need to know about her Sydney shows...

When is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Sydney?

Tay Tay will take to the stage at Accor Stadium (after hitting Melbourne up for three shows) for her first Sydney Eras Tour concert on Friday, February 23. She will also perform on Saturday 24, Sunday 25 and Monday 26 before heading to Singapore to sing her heart out for a whole SIX shows. ( Here’s where Taylor Swift is staying in Sydney and all the places she could be eating at .)

What time will Taylor Swift come on stage?

All gates to Accor Stadium will open at 4.30pm... for those people who are reaaaaally keen to get in early to secure some merch . However, every single seat at the Sydney nights of the Eras Tour is assigned, which means there’s no point rocking up super early to get a spot in the (non-existent) mosh pit.

The music will kick off at 6.20pm, with pop princess Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act. We can’t be 100 per cent sure exactly what time Taylor will come on stage, but all signs point to around 7.30pm or 8pm at the latest.

What can I bring to Taylor Swift Sydney?

There are specific rules for what you can and can’t bring to Taylors Eras Tour in Sydney. Here are the main things to remember:

You can bring:

  • One bag with a maximum of two compartments, smaller than A4 size. It doesn’t need to be clear, in case you were wondering.
  • Friendship bracelets (of course), but you're meant to wear them on your arms!
  • A rain poncho
  • A portable charger smaller than the size of your phone
  • Sunscreen, but not the aerosol kind
  • A sealed, clear, soft plastic water bottle no larger than 600ml

You can’t bring:

  • Outside food
  • D-rings or carabiners for friendship bracelets
  • Signs bigger than 28 x 45cm
  • Studded jewellery (sorry Rep girlies)
  • Metal or hard plastic containers

Are there any Taylor Swift Sydney tickets left?

This won’t come as a shock to anyone, but demand for Taylor Swift tickets has been through the roof (and into the stratosphere, at this point). A  limited number of new Taylor Swift tickets  went on sale at 4pm on Thursday. Aside from the new tickets, resale through Ticketek Marketplace is your best bet – be wary of scams on other platforms!

What’s the full setlist for the Eras Tour?

The Eras Tour has a setlist like no other, spanning a staggering three hours (and 44 songs). Since the tour has already been travelling around the world, we mostly know what to expect, save for some nightly ‘surprise songs’. Here’s the Eras Tour setlist for Australia:

Who will be supporting Taylor Swift in Sydney?

Singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter ( who Taylor dined with at Pellegrino 2000 ) will be supporting Taylor on the Aussie leg of the Eras Tour. She's best known for hit songs 'Nonsense', 'Feather' and 'On My Way'. On Tuesday, February 13, a new batch of tickets dropped for the Sydney shows – as expected, they were snapped up quickly and sold out within hours. The tickets on sale were for seats with partially obscured views.

Here's the Accor Stadium seating map for Taylor Swift's Sydney shows.

Is Taylor Swift bringing her Eras tour to Australia?

Aft much Swiftie speculation, the Midnights singer announced six huge concerts in Australia next year as part of her global Eras tour. During a social media post shared in June, Taylor Swift revealed her full international tour lineup — which included shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️ I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!,” Swift shared during a Post , which has since gone viral.

The singer will perform to a huge crowd at Melbourne’s MCG on February 16 and 17, following rumours earlier this year, and then five days later — will head to Sydney’s Accor Stadium for three back-to-back shows on February 23, 24 and concluding on the 25th.

Frontier Touring also shared the exciting news to their Twitter , writing: “We’re enchanted to announce Taylor Swift is returning to Australia in 2024.”

The news follows increasing speculation Swift was to drop Australian dates, in the midst of her sold-out Eras tour in the U.S. Back in March, an MCG employee leaked the news to the popular Melbourne-based podcast Shameless : “Hush hush but I work for the MCG and dates have been booked in for Taylor…”

Further to the enigmatic MCG spill, DeuxMoi also took an interest in Swift’s possible Down Under movements, teasing : “Dates have been booked for Taylor at the MCG in Melbourne, Aus. So she’s definitely coming to Australia!”

Who is the support act for the Australian leg of the Eras Tour?

For her trip Down Under, Swift will be supported by U.S. hitmaker Sabrina Carpenter during. Carpenter has been supporting Swift for some time already, having debuted at the Mexico City show in August.

Will Taylor Swift Bring Her Eras Tour To Australia? Everything We Know

From those rumoured dates to what we can expect..

Taylor Swift Eras Tour outfits

Taylor Swift ‘s Eras tour is fast becoming the most talked-about music show in the world. While the ‘All Too Well’ singer has already announced and booked a mammoth amount of dates, we’re still waiting to know – will Taylor Swift tour Australia in 2023?

Consider this article one to come back to as time goes on – for now, there are rumours, and we can also look at past tour announcements for insight into whether Swift will bring Eras to Australia this year.

Did Taylor Swift Book The MCG?

One of the strongest rumours around a Taylor Swift Australia tour in 2023 is that her management team booked in dates at Melbourne’s MCG. This is exactly the kind of venue someone of Swift’s calibre would need for a show, so we believe it. However, these rumours are coming from unidentified sources.

The first is via online gossip site DeuxMoi , who shared that an “insider” had confirmed Swift’s team made a booking at the MCG. The second came via the Australian podcast Shameless , who were also contacted with an anonymous tip regarding a booking, this time with a timeline – February 2024.

It’s worth noting that the MCG saw the largest-ever ticketed show in Australia occur in March, with Ed Sheeran performing for 109,500 attendees. We’re thinking Taylor Swift will likely top that if she tours, but it’s clear the venue has the space to accommodate her fanbase.

When Will Taylor Swift Tour Australia?

Taylor Swift Eras Tour outfits

These February 2024 dates would line up with how Taylor Swift’s Eras tour is currently playing out. The ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ singer is currently in the middle of her American tour leg, which is entirely in massive stadiums and has seen the artist break multiple records, including first female act to sell out particular stadiums, and first act in history to sell out multiple-date shows at venues.

Her American tour is slated to wrap in early August 2023, and the likelihood is that soon, European dates will be added. We do know that international dates are coming – the official website says as much – but to which countries and when, we don’t know.

One megastar we can look to for insight is Harry Styles. His Love On Tour shows began in America, then Europe and South America before finally landing in Australia. So unfortunately for us, if Taylor Swift brings her Eras tour here, it is likely to be (at the earliest) in early 2024.

What Can We Expect From The Eras Tour?

Judging from the first reports coming in after shows in Las Vegas and Arizona, Taylor Swift’s Eras tour is her best yet. Because the artist couldn’t tour for albums Lover, evermore and folklore, and due to the fact that she’s been re-recording her old albums of late, she’s encompassing all her music into one three hour performance.

The show is broken up into albums, starting with Lover. Each album sequence covers several hits and yes, all the major songs are in the mix so you will be able to sing and dance to your favourites. Fans are particularly enraptured with Taylor Swift’s wardrobe on tour , which features custom designs from Versace, Zuhair Murad and Oscar de la Renta among other fashion houses.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour outfits

The visual effects have also been critically praised – at one point, Taylor Swift appears to dive under a stage and swim along a walkway. She doesn’t actually enter any water (that would definitely be a hazard), but according to those who have attended an Eras show already, you wouldn’t know it.

Rolling Stone released one of the first reviews of the Eras tour, saying “It’s easy to compare one of Swift’s stadium shows to something you’d see on Broadway—never has that been more true than for The Eras Tour.”  The Guardian gave the show five stars, adding that there was less choreography but more heart. “Save for a few numbers, it was a less heavily choreographed routine than the Reputation tour (a good thing), more an enthusiastic acting out by Swift of each of her songs, as if engaging in a dead-serious karaoke battle with each of her screaming fans for 44 straight songs.”

Excited? Same here. We’ll be updating this article as more official news is announced.

Taylor Swift Plays to Her Biggest Eras Tour Crowd Yet in Melbourne — See the Photos!

Taylor Swift has taken the Eras Tour down under!

On Friday, Feb. 16, the Grammy winner took her record-breaking tour to Melbourne, Australia, and kicked off a three-night stint at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Next, she'll travel to Sydney for another four nights.

At the first Melbourne show, Swift played to a crowd of 96,000 fans — her biggest audience yet!

From the sea of fans to all of her glittering looks, see all of the best photos from Swift's time in Melbourne .

Grand Opening

After a whirlwind week stateside celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs' big Super Bowl win with boyfriend Travis Kelce , Swift was back to work on Feb. 16 when the Eras Tour made its way to Melbourne, Australia.

Kicking It Off

Swift played to a crowd of 96,000 fans at Melbourne Cricket Ground — her biggest turnout to date on the Eras Tour and according to the hitmaker herself, ever.

"This is the biggest show that we have done on this tour or any tour I have ever done," she told the crowd in a clip  shared on X  (formerly known as Twitter).

"That's the version you get of me tonight, the version that's completely starstruck by the fact that so many of you wanted to hang out with us on a Friday night in Melbourne," the Grammy winner added.

Ready, Set, Go!

Friday's show marked her first concert in Australia since 2018, when she brought the Reputation tour to the country.

She of course brought all of her sparkling costumes along for the ride and threw up her famous heart hands from the stage.

Crowd Pleaser

Graham Denholm/TAS24/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management

The crowd's size was on full display as they all shined lights from their seats while Swift serenaded the tens of thousands of Swifties.

Purple and Poised

Swift stepped into her custom Nicole + Felicia purple ball gown as she entered the Speak Now era of her set.

Strumming Along

And she grabbed onto another one of her guitars as she sang one of her songs from the 2010 album, which was re-released in July 2023.

Ready For It

When it was time to bring things to her Reputation era, she pulled out the Roberto Cavalli catsuit (covered with red sequin snakes!) that she has worn throughout the tour.

Shimmer and Shine

Over the course of the three separate shows at the Melbourne venue, Swift performed in front of more than 280,000 fans.

"Melbourne, what do I even say to you after over 288,000 of you came and danced with us in the last 3 nights ??!" she wrote on Instagram following the three-night stint. "That was unforgettable. You were on another LEVEL. Thank you for the memories. I’ll revisit the ones from this weekend often 🥲🫶."

On the Keys

She sat behind her mossy piano to play a few of her ballads during the set, which ran more than three hours.

Going Green

The Melbourne air looked good on Swift as her sleeves flowed below her arms in the Folklore era.

Guitar Hero

When it came time for the acoustic part of her set, in which she plays her choice of surprise songs, Swift wore this yellow dress as she launched into a rendition of “You’re Losing Me" — marking her first time performing the tune live — and "Red."

The following night she performed a mashup of   “Getaway Car,” “August” and “The Other Side of the Door,"   and on Sunday, performed another mashup — this time of “Come Back ... Be Here" and "Daylight."

That's All Folks

And as their show came to an end, Swift stood with her dancers as they celebrated the close of their first show in Melbourne.

When the Melbourne-based tattoo artist was tagged in posts on social media of people wanting a forever reminder of the Eras Tour, she didn't hesitate to offer a range of designs.

And it's taken off.

"I've already got 20 people booked with deposits paid … and by the end of [the tour], I'll have done at least 30 to 40," she said.

As a small business only established three years ago, she said she didn't expect that sort of response.

"The only other time I've had this much interest all at once would be when I literally started … and [was] offering free tattoos," she said.

Sitting in her studio, bopping along to some of Swift's greatest hits as she found a blank space on her client, Ms Moore said it was one of the reasons why she loved the pop sensation.

"Starting my own business, it's been inspiring seeing how well she holds herself and how incredible a businesswoman she is," she said.

Sydney and Melbourne looking to cash in on Swift shows

Ms Moore is just one business benefiting from what experts have dubbed the "Swiftonomics" phenomenon.

The idea that a single pop star can create massive economic ripples when she moves through the globe might sound funny.

But there are some serious numbers backing up that theory.

About 620,000 tickets had been sold to Swift's Australian shows before a last-minute release of more tickets dropping on Tuesday.

The City of Melbourne estimates Swift will bring in more than $1 billion to the city's economy alone, during the three touring nights there.

For some perspective, Lord Mayor Sally Capp said over an entire year the city normally saw about $3.3 billion in economic value from its major events schedule.

"Tay Tay is going to deliver a third of that over a weekend ," Cr Capp said.

When the songwriter jets to Sydney for the second set of Australian concerts, the harbour city is hoping to net $133 million according to Destination NSW.

That's about 28 per cent of what it expects to generate into this year's visitor economy for major events.

But not everyone's convinced by those projections.

KPMG chief economist Brendan Rynne said his colleagues had projected Swift would help the Australian economy grow — but only by around $10 million in the March quarter.

"Technically any spend associated with these patrons is just a transfer from one category of spending (or saving) to another," he said.

"So for those claiming the tour will make a huge boost to the economy, I would say : You need to calm down."

The visual signs of Swift's devoted fandom are obvious — several people rugged up in a bid to catch a glimpse of the star as she touched down in Melbourne in the early hours of Thursday morning.

In days before her arrival, fans were already flocking to buy official merchandise.

One fan in Melbourne told the ABC she'd spent more than $1,200 on Swift-related memorabilia.

A crowd of people standing by tables full of Taylor Swift merchandise with posters of her on poles.

Indirectly, her upcoming concerts appear to be putting entire supply chains under pressure.

Fans eager to join the bracelet-swapping trend that emerged in the wake of Swift's recent Midnights album have been heading to craft shops to stock up on beads and bracelets.

This week, fans have been reporting shortages in online shopping, while artisan bead makers have enjoyed a bump in sales .

A casual glance at Google searches over the past year also suggests interest in Swift's MCG gig could be even greater than its traditional blockbuster event — the AFL grand final.

While it's been a boon for legitimate businesses, others have also been cashing in on the Swift ticket interest online.

Authorities estimate hundreds of thousands of dollars have been lost to scammers  offering fake tickets through a series of sophisticated traps.

Additional flights needed to meet demand

With only two locations lucky enough to secure concert dates, fans are flying in from all over.

Qantas and Jetstar are expecting a 30 per cent increase in passengers on flights into Sydney and Melbourne over the concert period, compared to the same time last year.

People sitting on the ground.

Qantas added more than 60 additional flights — that's 11,000 seats — when Swift first announced she was coming to Australia.

This month, it had to add a further seven flights to continue to meet demand.

Those flights are coming from Brisbane to Sydney and from Perth, Auckland and Brisbane to Melbourne.

Qantas' bookings increased by a whopping 1,500 per cent when tickets went on sale compared to the same period the year before.

Jetstar said nearly 10,000 passengers booked flights when the concert was announced and it had seen a steady increase in bookings over the past eight months.

While Brisbane might have missed out on snagging dates for the Eras Tour, Swifties around the Sunshine State won't let that stop them from catching a glimpse of the singer.

It's estimated an additional 25,400 people will pass through Brisbane Airport's terminal to travel to Swift's concerts in Sydney and Melbourne, according to Brisbane Airport Corporation.

It expects passenger volumes will increase by 5 per cent around the concert days, with a surge in bookings between February 15 and 19 for the Melbourne dates and between February 22 and 27 for the Sydney dates.

The airport also said there had been a ripple effect on connecting flights from Queensland's regions including Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton, with an estimated 3,400 additional passengers .

'Phenomenal' demand pushing hotels to capacity

All those fans flying into Melbourne and Sydney need somewhere to stay — and the accommodation industry says it's reaping the benefits.

Hotels in both Sydney and Melbourne are near capacity with the Australian Hotels Association saying it's amongst the highest demand they've seen for an event.

"The demand is phenomenal," CEO Michael Johnson said.

"I'd say we have seen events in the past create similar levels of demand but not for a while."

The association expects occupancy rates in Melbourne to exceed 90 per cent by Friday.

It's more than a 25 per cent increase from what they were at the same time last year.

For Sydney, occupancy rates are sitting at about 86 per cent and are also expected to reach more than 90 per cent when Swift touches down.

Mr Johnson said it was about a 5-10 per cent increase on the same time last year, keeping in mind WorldPride was held in Sydney that weekend.

"Events of this nature are just a huge demand driver for the hotels and the visitor economy," Mr Johnson said.

"It's more than just our industry … it's the restaurants, the pubs, theatres, cafes, tourist attractions, everyone benefits."

In a cost-of-living crisis, Australians are still forking out for Swift tickets

The economic impact of the superstar even found its way into a press conference grilling of the Reserve Bank of Australia's governor, Michele Bullock.

Ms Bullock was asked how the extraordinary interest and spending on Swift tickets fitted into the picture of services inflation across the nation.

But Ms Bullock said in her own family's experience, people "forewent other things in order to be able to afford Taylor Swift".

"People are deciding what's really important to them and what's not as important to them," Ms Bullock said.

"Clearly for a lot of people, Taylor Swift is very important."

The Eras Tour is expected to be the first in history to gross over $1 billion .

Despite this, she's only expected to pocket about $35 million.

Economist Angel Zhong said Swift was the latest example of women positively impacting the Australian economy.

It follows the likes of the Barbie movie which surpassed $1 billion at the box office and the Women's World Cup which injected $7.6 billion into the economy.

Dr Zhong said we shouldn't underestimate the power of a role model like Swift.

"[Role models] boost the confidence of other women in Australia and around the world," she said.

"[And] encourage women to be more powerful and confident in how they approach their day-to-day lives."
